and the aim is to go for as much realistic lighting/shading i can manage. i should aim for cartoon but i really dont know the fundamentals of light and color enough to stylize. making shaders or whatever shouldnt be too bad

Screw it, headcanon time:

Nya and Zane train each other when it comes to their respective elements, like both of them explain the mindset needed to control Ice/Water to each other example:

Zane tells Nya how to control Ice:

"To control Ice you must focus on yourself and your desires, what motivates you to control Ice in such a way? Is it to protect your Friends? Or Family? Or innocents? Ice requires a focused mind, only then would it respond to you."

Then you can have Nya tell Zane how to control water:

"to control water you just gotta, let go, let your mind run wild, like free flowing water, and much like Ice, it feeds off of your desires, but unlike Ice, it doesn't require complete and utter focus, it just wants a clear mind."

they reach a point where they can almost control each other's elements fully, of course not to the level of control they posses over their own elements, but enough where if Zane or Nya don't have their respective elements around them in the required state of matter, they can resort to quickly using the other's instead.

This sort of ties in to a headcanon of mine where elemental powers have a few requirements in order to manafist.

like in this post Water and Ice require a mindset of focusing on your desires.

Let's say that Fire and smoke require strong emotions in order to function.

Lighting and wind require you to have a set goal in mind in order to manafist.

The worst view in the Tumblr UI update is /blog/ which I use the most because it's where I post from. Information on the left-hand column is doubled up on the right, and information is displayed twice, and every time I reload this page (I am bad with tabs please don't look at my shame) the Accounts tab pops open again even if it's been previously shut.

I think they're stuck between a rock and a hard place PR-wise (Not Like the Other Social Medias) particularly when converging on homogeneity in design less looks like natural convergence towards best practice and more towards 'you are baby and you need big number to press and then you press the big number over and over'. Basically the Cookie Clicker philosophy of modern design.

I've seen some of the designers on Tumblr be completely open about the fact they are trying to do the impossible (user-funded social media) which has never been done before, so they're not completely committed to abandoning the website, but golly gee I think the reaction Tumblr veterans have had to the changes isn't really comparable to 'put the reblog button back on top' and also, it's just really really bad timing. I also think that the whole psychology behind 'the way users are supposed to interact with a website' is a bit backwards and takes a lot of shortcuts, but I don't really expect commercially-driven psychology to really view people in that complex a way.

The question I have is that 'why do people interact differently now from ten years ago', which includes when Tumblr was sold for a billion dollars. That includes marked population shift in userbase and higher aspirations of desired userbase, but I also think that a lot of this stuff is cultivated, and it's not like the issue before with Tumblr was 'people are too stupid to use it and also it's not Twitter'. People are used to Twitter because they used Twitter, not because Twitter had the best design. And so on.

My liking for older stuff really came out of nowhere I must admit. Like it has ALWAYS interested me. When I was little the only shows I’d really watch were shows my mum used to watch (70s/80s) and I’ve always wanted more, then peter davison hyperfixation hit and suddenly I know too much (even things my mum doesn’t know even though she was alive when they aired)

I dont think telling disabled people who use AI to make 2D digital art to Go Do Some Other Kind Of Art is helpful or even like halfway decent behavior. I think its really shitty to be like “I understand youre doing this because you physically cannot draw and never will be able to, but have you considered doing something else instead because major corporations are probably going to latch onto this technology to steal jobs from other artists, so clearly the solution is to just stop developing technology instead of Something Else”

I am terrified of having anyone close to me because I am mentally ill (really trying to get treatment), and I have a track record with hurting people unintentionally.

I'm not trying to sound edgy... I am sincere. I don't know what the problem is and I'm taking medicine (it seems to be working!!!!) But I am afraid of a diagnosis deeper than "anxiety" or "depression."

Y'all know what diagnoses can do to you... I will not get accommodations, I'll get shunned.

I suspect I have ADHD and/or Autism so I accomdate myself. My greatest fear is a BPD diagnosis. People with BPD are villainized and looked down upon and avoided. I hate seeing how the internet treats people with personality disorders.

Yes, BPD is scary... but if you accommodate it (like any other illness), you'll find that there is literally nothing wrong. The BPD person is not some evil mastermind. They just need extra assurance and clarification....

Respect mostly.

It would be awesome if people could just respect each other. Gender Identity, Neurodivergent, Sexual Identity, Mental Illness, Disability.... It isn't fucking hard.

It's the easiest fucking thing you can do.

Accommodate and be kind and respectful.

It's so easy, children can do it. And they do it naturally.
