i guess the key, in my opinion, to writing a young dick grayson and bruce interaction is to make them gut-wrenchingly sincere. that's what gets me in fics, is the sincerity in their interactions, their every word. they have banter, and they have arguments, and they don't always say the right things to each other, but, to me, a well written dick and bruce interaction is one that is so tooth-rottingly sincere that it sticks out from all the chaos going around them. it is a beacon in the dark. they are each other's light, hope, and heart, wrapped up into one person. if they can't be sincere with each other, what is even the point?

#was in a weird rut in one of the scenes i was writing and whenever that happens i always open up a dustorange fic #bc i think what i love best about her fics is the beautiful sincerity and love pouring out of each and every bruce and dick scene #it helps me get in the zone of how to write them bc they are complex and they are stunted and they do have issues w each other #but at the end of the day they are each other's entire world and i think fics should reflect that more often #esp when they are younger/in the beginning stages

#watched joels death again #a playthrough came up of that part of the game #and I watched it #and it’s so #I hate it so much #like yes story wise and all that yeah his life and what he did was gonna catch up to him #but he’s just a huge comfort to me #and every time I watch it it’s like a forget how bloody his face is #and how much blood is on the windows and the floor #and the way he groans and flinches when Ellie opens the door #and how he opens his eyes ones last time and his fingers flinch when he last glances at Ellie #and the crack when.#and Ellie’s screams and begs and threats #and remembering how she told him she was going to forgive him the night before #and now she doesn’t get to #and how she just lost him- her best friend and father- in an incredibly violent way #he died he’s gone and she never sees him again #and just the weight of the scene in general. it’s so incredibly heavy to me. too heavy.#it just hurts. it hurts so damn much.#I cant do this in live action. I cant.

height of my night is my dad talking abt the gay bars in town and being like ‘oh that ones a straight meat market!! naked guys dancing on tables and all that!’ and then i was like. isnt the one you used to go to. and he was like. yeah

#before my dad met my mom he was deeply in love with this trans woman who did drag shows at this local gay bar #and he would go every night. she died of aids but he still speaks abt her so fondly its sweet #but this particular club is what he calls ‘full of old fashioned queers’#the windows were still painted so no one could see inside type old fashioned.#and he talks abt it so fondly but also he’s like. a bit more open abt why he visited so often #now my brother and i are older and also gay #men lmaooo…#my dad straight up told me the best cruising spots one time. that was fun #i think a lot of time when ppl think of older bi men they think of guys who identified as straight or gay then settled down and #figured out when they were older but my dad’s known he’s bisexual since he was #15. and like. he was rlly in gay culture at the time #and its tbh nice hearing abt it. its not like.#super graphic what he says but i acknowledge that my dad had other partners before my mom. some of them men.#and its just like kinda cool to have that elder queer prescense in my family #of course my moms the same way. she talks abt her life working on all #women farms. and living in san francisco and .#being in this lesbian scene in the 80’s and its so cool..#i will admit. i didnt know my parents were queer until i had already come out #but they never. hid it from us it just never came up.#but once it did it was rlly nice to have that perspective.#bc my parents are from a different era of queer ppl it was hard to get them to understand transition at first #bc my dad didnt really know the difference between trans people and ‘crossdressers’ bc a lot of ppl considered themselves as both #when he was in the scene.#but they learned and its just nice to have multiple generations of queer ppl in the family #its comforting.#knowing that my brother and i are educating them as much as they are to us.

i cant decide what would be better tbh: either 11089 volunteers to stay behind to keep watch over donna post-memory wipe but they’re still human — even if from far in the future — and get Master-fied with everyone else and have to afterwards deal with the fact that they couldn’t help at all <3 OR. something Horrible happened along their travels with the doctor that means that they don’t really count as human anymore.
