There is a Saizeriya (サイゼリヤ) restaurant nearer to my house, but we hardly step into it. Instead, we patronize the branch in Sembawang Shopping Centre often due to the fact the free shuttle bus brings us directly from our house to the shopping mall. Mum is not a big eater, and there are a lot of things she dislikes so she almost always ended with this Black Pepper Chicken Spaghetti (S$5.90). Ordered the 5-piece Chicken Wings (S$4.90) for sharing.

As for me, I am the adventurous type and always keen on trying new things especially food. Mum enjoyed my Bismark Pizza (S$7.90) saved for the runny poached egg in the centre. I on the other hand think the gooey yolk is the highlight as it adds a slightly earthy and creamy wholesomeness to the tangy tomato-based pizza.

Dessert Report (The Ancient Cookies)

Warning: Cookie Cannibalism

Customer: Pure Vanilla Cookie

Treat Gift: A cake slice dabbled with vanilla frosting.

Result: Portions of hair missing, hat has to be angled to hide the missing parts.

Pure Vanilla entered the cake shop one afternoon after leaving with White Lily Cookie the other day. He talked about seeing White Lily’s gift to Y/N Cookie and thought it was a wonderful idea. Questions raised about his odd hat angled were dodged or given no answer, unusual for the Ancient.

What Y/N Cookie doesn’t know won’t hurt them, right? They would still be close to Pure Vanilla no matter what, right?

Customer: Hollyberry Cookie

Treat Gift: Berry cluster cookies.

Result: Parts of the arms missing, outfit helps to obscure the cracks.

Hollyberry was among the first of the Ancients to give a tasty delight to her very good friend, Y/N Cookie. But just any dessert wouldn’t do for Hollyberry’s liking. It had to mean something, that it truly came from the bottom of her heart. She had an idea…

Y/N Cookie will surely love it…..

They would surely love her….

Customer: Dark Cacao Cookie

Treat Gift: Box of chocolates made from pure cacao.

Result: Missing small extremities such as parts of the hands or legs. Like with Hollyberry, his outfit can cover up the missing portions.

Loyalty, something that is earned and deeply valued to Dark Cacao Cookie. Y/N Cookie’s loyalty to him as an ally means a lot to the king. Dark Cacao Cookie felt like he needed to return the favor to Y/N Cookie, to show how much he valued their relationship.

No length is too great for the sake of those you care about, as he entered the cake shop with the chocolates showed…

Customer: Golden Cheese Cookie

Treat Gift: An array of cheeses with a cheesecake made by Golden Cheese herself.

Result: Portions of the arms and legs missing. Bandages are used to hide the missing parts, excused as just her protecting her dough from getting too stale.

Golden Cheese was never the same after the fall of her kingdom. She held onto anything she held dear, fearing they’ll crumble to dust before her eyes. Y/N Cookie was one major example, she treated them as if she’s known them all her life..and someone she wishes to know for the rest of her life.

She wants to live knowing that a part of her will always remain within Y/N Cookie forever when she floated through that cake shop door…

Customer: White Lily Cookie

Treat Gift: Lily Cobbler.

Result: The loss of the lower arms, part of the waist, and small portions of the head and hair. The cobbler had traces of a powder-like substance emanating from it.

White Lily Cookie cared about Y/N Cookie. She cared about them very much. She feels like they understand her more the average cookie, it’s no surprise why she’ll often seek their company. When she spotted them enjoying a gifted treat one day, she had a wonderful idea on how she wanted to express her feelings to them.

It was quite the extensive process, but she was able to complete her gift. The loss of her parts can grow back, it would all be worth it when Y/N Cookie enjoyed the cobbler, with White Lily knowing that a part of her will always be with Y/N Cookie.

White Lily went further than Golden Cheese though. More than just physical pieces of dessert that will eventually disappear in time. White Lily placed a little more thought into her treat…

From Philly Cheese steaks, WestCoast Club sandwiches, Southern Fried Fish sandwiches, Classic Coldcut hoagies and even a Nonna's Meatball Parm Sub that the Godfather would kiss on both cheeks, REUBENS has it all!!!!!

Hey, and even this old Pic shows Gantu so could have worked at like 7-8 ft tall with humans... if he was in a movie.... 👀

****side note, if I remember this right, this was an idea @mcgogogadget and I cooked up where Gantu gets to meet her OC Rachel (who I ADORE but not pictured) and they both bond over a bacon egg cheese sandwich on a hot buttery biscut while 625 is horrified its not on a flaky croissant!! lmao

Do each shops have regulars? Customers that visit the shops pretty often?

Definitely!

Mostly Hollyberry’s as it’s a cafe. The Brave gang visits her a lot, along with Pure Vanilla. She’s also the local go-to for cake orders, no matter the celebration. Among the ones that come more often, there’s Espresso and Madeleine, who take the time to work there, Cherry Blossom, who buys pastries for her pic-nics, Tarte Tatin, to reminisce with Hollyberry, and my not yet mentioned ocs, who spend some of their afternoons off there.

Golden Cheese gets a lot of visits from the mermaids, mostly Gold Citrine, to buy new jewelry or repair their show materials. Adventurer and Olive also visit a lot for repairs, and Red Osmanthus regularly orders custom jewelry. Otherwise, when one of her old friends needs help with a broken machine, she goes there herself.

As for Dark Cacao, Milk regularly comes by for chocolate orders he then redistributes to his clients or to the orphans to help them. Cocoa also visits regularly, to buy, well, cocoa to make her favorite drinks, and Mint Choco sometimes comes in her place, buying some chocolates to gift her on the way. Finally, Dark Cacao is also the one making the chocolate Hollyberry uses in her cakes and other treats.

Pure Vanilla’s refuge/orphanage does get visitors that come and go to help with the children on occasion. As mentioned above, Milk drops by with treats regularly. Pumpkin pie sometimes brings dolls for the children, Blueberry Pie comes by to read them stories, and Cotton and Sherbet volunteer to make clothes for them.

Finally, White Lily usually gets a lot of visits from Herb. Since they have similar but not overlapping shops, his being a more gardening materials oriented one, they collaborate a lot. Lilac regularly buys a few flowers, Golden Osmanthus orders whole arrangements, sometimes to make fragrances out of them, and Wedding cake often goes to White Lily for wedding arrangements/bouquets.

Please let me know if you want to hear about a shop other than the ones I mentioned, I assumed you wanted to know about the ancients in particular.

There used to be this mini food court called Teng Sheng Food Gallery (腾胜) on the second floor of Sembawang Shopping Centre. Brought mum there a few times previously for dinner. Got the S$6.80 bowl of Salmon Don (三文鱼饭) with soup for her. A slice of pan-fried salmon with egg covered rice drizzled with teriyaki sauce.

My S$8 plate of Mexicano Chicken Chop (墨西哥鸡扒) came with a pan-fried deboned chicken drumstick drizzled with cheese sauce and French fries. The side dishes were pathetic though with just the tiniest scoop of mashed potato, a tablespoon of corn kernels and lettuce. However, the chicken was decent tasting with the ample cheesy sauce.

no real cheese will ever live up to the phantom taste i imagined the cartoon cheese from tom and jerry cartoons i watched as a kid tasted like.

this is the pinnacle of the cheese-based foodgroups. i think it was less the visual appeal (almost none, it looks like a dried sponge half the time) and more the fervent desperation with which the mouse pursued it. the permeating lust for this cheese.

the fanatical daydreaming was so evocative that my brain and tongue made up a flavour that will never exist and i am doomed to spend my life unfulfilled
