TrussellTrust: We’re so grateful to @taylorswift for donating to food banks on The Eras Tour! 🫶
She’s put the spotlight on the incredible work food banks are doing to help people facing hunger.
And while the Eras Tour has moved on (for now)… Taylor’s left a lasting impact. #TSTheErasTour

Hey so umm I know we all like to joke about the UK govt falling apart so much so quickly and yes it is hilarious but also our economy has crashed and a lot of people here are unable to afford food, heating, gas, electric, transport, and generally just to live. So if you can help too, please do- there are a lot of great food banks, homeless shelters, and charities out here that are trying to provide help for the radically increasing number of people who need it
Go ahead and make your jokes but please send assistance as well, and if you can't do that, then spread the word. This isn't looking good.
Feel free to reblog this with charities- I'll start the list off:
the Trussell Trust, where you can donate money to buy food and other necessities for emergency parcels.

UK food banks bring in counsellors and private GPs to help exhausted workers
“Britain’s food bank charities are buying in counselling, GP and mental health support services to help staff and volunteers cope with stress and exhaustion triggered by the explosion in demand for emergency food.
“The wellbeing services are a response to a rise in burnout and stress among frontline food bank workers as they deal with expanding workloads and the emotional burden of supporting increasing numbers of destitute and emotionally traumatised clients ...
“Emma Revie, the chief executive of the Trussell Trust, said the £30,000 investment was a response to the ‘unrelenting’ mental and physical effects on its staff ... ‘Most of our volunteers signed up to give out food parcels and be a friendly face spreading some love,’ said Su Parrish, operations director at the Easter Team food bank in Crawley. ‘They didn’t anticipate the level of stress that our clients now exhibit because of the situations they find themselves in.’”
“A voluntary movement that started in earnest in the UK just over a decade ago, and which is still relies predominantly community groups and churches, is having to adjust to an increasingly central and semiformalised social emergency role as austerity cuts to welfare benefits and public services push the human consequences of poverty straight to their door.”

If the courses be departed from, the ends will change.
Tumblr media
“Come in, -- come in! and know me better, man! I am the Ghost of Christmas Present. Look upon me! You have never seen the like of me before!” ― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
Tumblr media
MORE than half of people living in England’s most deprived areas are spending less on food and essentials amid the cost-of-living crisis, official figures suggest.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) have exposed divisions across the country in how people are being affected by soaring prices.
People living in England’s most deprived districts were almost twice as likely to report cutting down on food bills and other essentials.
One in 10 people living in the poorest areas said they had also fallen behind on their electricity or gas bills and more than three-fifths said they had struggled to meet the payments in the latest period in November.
Foodbank charity the Trussell Trust said more support was needed from the government to help the poorest get by in the months before benefits are increased in April.
“In the last six months, 320,000 people turned to Trussell Trust foodbanks for the first time and this number is likely to rise.”
As Dickens wrote in A Christmas Carol; “Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead, but if the courses be departed from, the ends will change.”

How the 'lifestyle choices' of Tory millionaires is taking the PIP
Is there no vulnerable section of society that this Conservative Government won’t try to undermine? In his latest column, ANDREW FISHER, right, looks into the latest attacks on disabled people Whenever Conservative governments are in trouble they reach not for solutions, but for scapegoats. For weeks, in the run-up to this month’s local elections, the Conservatives spoke of little else other than…

Several significant themes from last weeks Parliament
Last week several significant themes emerged including on Monday the second reading of a Bill called Lifelong Learning (Higher Education Fee Limits) that Gillian Keegan, the Chichester MP set out. On Tuesday a session entitled High Street Bank Closures involved Andrew Griffith, the MP for Arundel and South Downs. Then on Wednesday there was a debate called Poverty: Food Costs which sadly did not…

The famous Wall of Sock at @thewoolmontyshow last weekend. All yarn is now available online. I’m travelling home from my philosophy event today and should be able to get some orders out today and the rest tomorrow.
We also raised £241.34 for the Trussell Trust (£135.34 on Saturday, £106 on Sunday) from donations in exchange for pins at the show, so yay Sheffield for your generosity!

These are austerity’s children – millions of boys and girls living through what is for them the “hungry 20s” in food bank Britain.
There are 850 cinemas in Britain today and three times as many food banks. There are 1,200 hospitals and twice as many food banks. There are more food banks than there are public libraries.
The food bank has become such a fixture in our national life that we have almost forgotten that food banks barely existed until very recently. A mere 35 were provided by the Trussell Trust in 2010 and they had to increase twentyfold to 650 in 2013 and then double again to 1,300 in 2019. With the addition of independent food banks, today’s 2,800 food banks and emergency food suppliers are now as recognisable a feature of the British landscape as the local secondary school. Food banks are opening as fast as high street banks have been closing down.
Their existence is of course a testimony to the human decency and heroic endeavours of thousands of fellow citizens who feel the pain of others and believe in something bigger than themselves. But the fact that food banks have had to come into existence in one of the richest countries in the world is a scar on our collective conscience and a permanent stain on our country’s character.
And in 2024, even though the pandemic is over and the worst of the heating bills crisis is behind us, the food crisis is actually getting worse.

Animal lovers of the world unite against pet poverty
Tumblr media
Richard Croft had never struggled to feed his three German shepherds before, but when he was forced to stop working after being diagnosed with cancer, their monthly food bill was difficult to keep up with.
“I was spending between £100 and £110 a month on dog food,” he said. “It was difficult. I was always looking for bargains and special offers but it’s still a lot of money.”
He is one of dozens of people who have turned to the Blue Cross pet food bank in Grimsby, set up in June to help people in the area struggling to feed their pets amid the cost of living crisis.
As Jessica Murray reported in The Guardian, Stocked entirely by donations from the local community, there is a steady stream of people stopping by to pick up food for their dogs and cats every Tuesday and Thursday. In a two-hour period the food bank helped 76 animals from 32 families.
Staff said they wanted to dispel any shame about seeking help for pets, and remind people that most of the time it was not a case of people taking on animals they could not afford.
“We’ve had all sorts of stories, different people in different situations. A lot of the animals that we’re seeing are older animals that people have had for years and their circumstances have just changed.”
Tumblr media
Farthing Wood is being bulldozed, and there's a drought. Fox, Badger, Toad, Tawny Owl, Mole and the other animals must band together and set off to a far-away nature reserve.
Their journey is full of adventure and fraught with disasters, and the animals must work together to survive. The Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dann is one of the most popular animal stories in literature and the book is still in print nearly 40 years after first publication.
