I think the thing is, Dazai messes with Chuuya but he would never cross the line unless by accident

He is really good at pushing people up against their boundaries without shoving them over

And he knows Chuuya's lines by heart because he knows Chuuya and that's just how they are

And when he sees him with the sheep

His personality changed and him being outright used and manipulated

Dazai's spent his whole life being manipulated and putting up fronts to fit in with people and be useful, to the point that he hasn't stopped now

He doesn't want the same fate to befall others even as much as he pretends otherwise

He doesn't want others to turn out like him

And yes, maybe he had ulterior motives. He most likely did. Maybe he really did only want to get Chuuya into the mafia and broke him away from his friends in order to do so. Maybe he set it all up, and you can look at it that way

Or maybe he was helping Chuuya because he wishes someone would have helpes him. Maybe he awea what Chuuya's been through, and understands

Imagine you're Dazai and you're 15.

You've just met this kid(also 15), who is loud and annoying and won't do a single thing you tell him to. Not only has he got a ridiculously strong ability but he has crazy control over it and he can handle himself in a fight. He's the leader of gang. The Port Mafia views him as a serious threat.

And you're forming your opinions as you're being made to team up with this brash annoying kid who keeps trampling on all your good plans with his own ideas. Clearly, he's used to doing what he wants when he wants and it grates on you.

The sooner this is over the better.

But then, it's not all bad. You don't really get to hang out with kids your age. Or kids in general, most of the people you know are adults (who also happen to be criminals). As annoying as he is, it's fun messing with each other. You go to an arcade together and make a silly bet.

He places his stakes, so you have to think of your own. Obviously, you come up with an ingenious idea. If he loses, this kid who does whatever he wants, he has to be your dog for life. It's the kind of dumb bet kids your age would make, right? You've heard that before.

You'll make him carry about some stuff with his ability and lord it over him for a while and it will be funny.

Only then his friends- members of his gang, The Sheep- walk in and he hides from them. Because of you. You are, after all, from a rival gang. You call them over just to mess with him.

And you watch the kid you got to know start to shrink. All his noise goes quiet. All his confidence dissipates. That annoyingly loud kid you've gotten used to, the one who won't do as you say, who argued back all the time, just stands there as his so-called friends chip away at him. You watch as they treat him like-

Like a dog.

i got a few details wrong in the post above, the sheep only ever viewed chuuya as a weapon and it took shirase seeing chuuya getting beaten up in stormbringer to truly see him as a human being. the scene with yuan in fifteen was more of a ‘hey, we like being able to use this person as a weapon’. yuan isn’t an important character and doesn’t do much for the plot, i don’t understand the hate towards her because she’s irrelevant. i also got a bit wrong about dazai in that scene, he finds it stupid that chuuya doesn’t notice that the sheep are manipulating him. he’s not jEaLoUs. the general sentiment still stands though. i will edit this later. oh, i also added tags so people will see this follow-up because past lou is fucking stupid.

can some (not all) bsd fans stop hating on yuan for just FUCKING TOUCHING CHUUYA’S ARM??? especially since she walked in hugging onto shirase’s arm as well. it doesn’t have to be taken as romantic, i personally see the sheep as chuuya’s found family. that touch was literally just a ‘hey, can you not force my best friend into joining your organization?’ (also dazai wasn’t ‘jealous’ in that scene. it was ‘oh shit. this girl’s getting in the way of my plan’.) it’s SO fucking stupid that if a female character (it’s always a female character) is even remotely close to dazai, akutagawa, chuuya, or atsushi people hate her because she’s ‘gEtTiNg In ThE wAy Of SsKk/SkK’. there could be a scene where a female character is like ‘hey, i’m really close friends with dazai but we have no romantic interest in each other’ and the fandom would still hate her. with all the disrespect i can manage, eat dirt if that’s the only reason you hate yuan/higuchi/lucy. if you have a reason you’re willing to explain for hating them, please send it to me. this has been lou, your very pissed genderfluid lesbian host. thank you for reading this. i know it’s a spinoff of my last rant but i feel like it needed to be said. thank you for reading if you did.

~ a little something about you and Dazai working together... or at least trying to ~

"Hold still! God, you really need to be more careful, Dazai, I worr-"

He blinks, and tilts his head, his voice soft yet firm as you both sit on the agency's couch.

"Would you mind looking at me real quick?"

You glance up from disinfecting his wound, and hum.

"Mm, why?"

He sighs, and when he speaks his voice comes out dramatic yet tantalizing, the way he always makes it sound when he knows he's about to say something silly. Something you'll hopefully scold him for! Yum...

"Oh, no reason... Just wanted a little kiss before I inevitably die in your loving embrace~"

You roll your eyes and groan, it makes his stomach do flips. There it is, that adorable shade of pink he loves so much! It matches the one you had on in bed this morning, but that's too naughty to think about now... Dazai hears the way your voice is significantly less strict, and he knows he has you. When does he not?

"Not now, Dazai-"

He interrupts, pouting as he reaches over and twists a lock of your hair in between his slender fingers, twirling it mindlessly while you mend his wound. He gives you a melting expression as his eyes droop enough for you to have no choice but to notice his despair as he whines.

"Mmm, why do you always only call me Dazai when we're at work?"

You sigh as you gently finish dressing his wounds, the fresh bandage mingling with his older ones... He makes a mental note to have you change those later too.

Anything to keep your hands all over him. Desiring him. Always in sight, always on the mind.

"Because we're at work... we're professionals, remember?"

That silly little comment makes him scoff.

"Hmph. Well, everyone knows..."

"Know what?"

"That you and I kiss in the supply closet sometim-"

You fling yourself against his chest and clamp his mouth shut, cheeks burning redder than a tomato. He licks the inside of your palm, causing you to immediately yank your hand away with a small squeak. You can't hold back the way your lips curl into an embarrassed smile as you hiss, and it makes him almost froth at the mouth... Trying to relearn decency is hard when he's this close to you.

"Professionals, Dazai!"

"... We should kiss" He blurts out, face smug.

"No"

"But it huuurtssss!" He's desperate now, resorting to the lowest of the lows so you'll accomodate him against all wishes, not like he has any shame left. He dramatically points at his wrapped up wrist, and slumps back onto the couch as he deflates into deadweight.

Your face softens and you look down, sighing in resignation that your boyfriend might just be a total baby FREAK. His pupils turn into hearts when you speak to him in the way he wants you to.

"Where does it hurt?"

"Who are you referring to?"

"You..?"

He smirks devilishly, and shrugs, feigning ignorance as he looks off to the side, arms crossed. You slowly start to get it, and crack a smirk. You exhale, shaking your head as you give him what he covets for.

"... Where does it hurt, Osamu?"

There it is, the magic word. By the time you're done asking that he's already crawled ontop of you, cornering you on the small loveseat and caging you in between his slender frame. Dazai takes your hand in his, and intertwines your fingers together as he nuzzles your cheek with his nose. His voice is soft, gentle, and talks you through it, just how he did this morning.

"Mmm, I'm not sure anymore... Let's find out together"

Your breath hitches, and you become bashful under him. He looks at you with narrowed eyes, knowing what it does to you, but more importantly what it does to his sick little mind. Leave it to Dazai to turn playful banter into something that will surely leave the two of you a mess... Hopefully you a little more than him. You whisper, a little breathless.

"Oh, now you're just baiting me, huh..."

"Well if I'm bait, then you're biting."

He whispers back, as if sucking the very life force out of you with his eye contact alone. This is how he wins, how he secures heaven for himself every single day, selfishly. He's not hiding anything in his expressions. He wants you for him, and no one else.

You really never stood a chance.

Day 2: Sheep "We're partners now"

Or where Dazai joins the sheep

Do you ever stop and think of how Chuuya's life before the PM was one of constant violence and brutality?

And how he might have been touch-averse early on in his life for how every touch he's known was vicious and barbaric?

Do you ever think about how this might be Chuuya's first experience of actual, gentle touch since he'd been picked up by the sheep??

Do you ever consider that the reason he looks so shocked aside from his ability getting swept away, is because this isn't a chokehold or a preparation to attack, but a mere hold?

Do you ever think about how No Longer Human might have taught him that gentle touch can be just as powerful as violent ones??

Oh, by the way,

Do you ever stop and consider that the reason Chuuya was reeling every time him and Dazai closed proximity isn't only because he doesn't stand Dazai but also because he absolutely hates the contact?

Do you ever think of how Dazai might have known how much Chuuya wasn't used to gentle touch and tormented him by doing shit like this just so he can see Chuuya's visceral reactions every time?

Do you ever imagine Chuuya trying to get used to gentle touch and even try to initiate some as payback?

And how he's come to appreciate and embrace it by doing so?

The stark difference between how the sheep treated Chuuya and how the flags treated him will always get me.

The sheep used him & he was strong and they took advantage of that. Made it his responsibility for carrying such power and they didn’t care enough to also see him as a person. Maybe it wasn’t intentional. Maybe it wasn’t always that way. But that’s how it ended up.

The flags, however, knew Chuuya for a year and they knew without even asking that Chuuya doubted his own humanity & they fought like hell to get evidence of it. Something Chuuya could have and couldn’t doubt. And all against Mori’s wishes on top of it.

Yeah, Pianoman knew his background already and that helped understand no doubt. But the sheep found Chuuya starving and missing memory and still took advantage of him in the end. Still never saw him as one of them. Hell, Shirase never saw Chuuya for the *kid* he is until his clone tries to kill him in front of him.

Yes, the sheep were kids but they never saw Chuuya as part of them. They all protected each other but always Chuuya was excluded from that. He was separate. They never thought to think about protecting Chuuya or even checking on his well being. Because it was Chuuya’s job to protect. He was a guard dog. A weapon.

The flags on the other hand, who arguably had even *less* reason to see Chuuya as one of them since he was an enemy of the mafia before as well as being there mostly against his will, THEY actually *did* see him as one of them.

He was a flag, a member of their little family. Period. They protect him and he protects them. They take care of each other because that’s what friends/family does. They were truly friends and Chuuya only realized that right before they died. So he didn’t even get to enjoy that feeling he never had with the sheep.

Anyway, I love Chuuya Nakahara and I love the flags. Thank you.

random thought and i know there's always angst paired with the fact that Chuuya didn't know what bread was when he first escaped the lab but i'm just thinking about him innocently eating certain foods completely wrong and Shirase or Yuan (or whoever) needing to keep an eye on him bc of that,,,

like for example once Yuan handed Chuuya an orange and he asked if he could eat it and when she said yes, he just fucking chomped on it (peel and all) and she was like WAIT. NOT LIKE THAT
