SOSA I just saw the tags on that post u reblogged, may I ask abt the slow dragon transformation OC đ?
Hi Lynx!!! Sorry for the delay, it's just that I was procrastinating because I knew the answer would be LONG and I needed to draw stuff... sorry đ
Beforehand, let me say, I deeply apologize for the testament below.
A little bit of lore context that makes this whole thing extra shitty: In universe (modern fantasy) dragons got the shark treatment where due to bad despictions in media and literature, they're perceived as creatures of evil, destruction and death (so, the sharks of this universe).
Backstory context: This elf dude Victor in his teeneager years used to participate in magical underground fighting rings, where participants fought shapeshifting (partially or totally) as the animal of their liking (warning: old art)
Things happened, and he decided to turn his life around and leave this part of him permanently buried in the past,
Much later on his character arc (yeah technically all of this is spoiler material if I were actively writing this story), his ex from back them (that is currently a corpse being possesed by a lovecraftian being) reveals all of this information to his current wife and son AND curses him to permanently become a dragon, in a "Your past will forever haunt you" kind of way. For reference, this is what he originally looked like (again, old art):
Ok so about the whole "dragon transformation thing", so thought process was that it must be really taxing for an humanoid creature to suddenly gain animal traits. The extra weight of horns would take a toll on the neck and lots of big, sharp teeth wouldn't fit on the mouth and would make eating and talking difficult. How do you control your fire breathing? how do you stop your new tail from accidentally hitting people and knocking over furniture? How do you take care of scaly skin?? and so on.
Eventually things start to balance each other (longer mouth to fit teeth) but I guess it would still be like growing pains but like, on the whole body due to the constant shitfting of of muscles, tendons and such.
He learns to manage things better thanks to medication, support from friends and family as well as getting informed about dragons (turns out, they actually aren't bloodthirsty killing machines, but very smart and playful creatures that love shiny things).
As soon as his body isn't suitable for living alogside other humans, he dispatchs himself to a national park (sanctuary? I don't remember) to live fully as a dragon, and he just kinda chills there as he slowly loses his human memories and evenually dies.
(That's not his final design, please imagine a cool dragon with teal and black/grey scales)
So yeah, now you know~ â¨
#crazy shit happens to my ocs. sorry#in a lot of stories where humans get transformed into creatures. they already know how to creature from minute one. and that isn't very fun#This whole thing happens in the span of 20/30 years I think???#yes I consider dragons animals. as least in this story's worlbuilding#but yeah. Sorry I have already talked too much đ

Sixth Playthrough of Tears of the Kingdom Done, Have my Thoughts Changed?
Short answer: NOPE. I still don't see how the entire package is bad. Every game ever has flaws, EVEN your precious Breath of the Wild was very flawed. This is still my favorite game ever and I do really like BotW a lot. Story is for the most part really great, excellent soundtrack, gameplay is incredible, wonderful cast of characters.
Long Answer (SPOILERS):
Okay so, when I first played this game, it made me look back at Breath of the Wild and feel kinda disappointed with that game. Breath of the Wild kinda didn't feel anywhere near as focused as this game does (ironic considering most people have been saying the opposite).
The Dragon's Tear quest actually was really connected and told a really, really interesting story that got me invested in the characters. The order should have been forced, HOWEVER, Impa notes that the order of the memories is on the wall in the room of the Forgotten Temple. The Regional Phenomena stuff is what the Divine Beast quests should have been. Only one Divine Beast quest had anything going on before the battle, all four regions have stuff going on in them with the Regional Phenomena. Not to mention the regions are actively being affected by the events of the phenomena going on, with the Zora being injured by sludge, the Rito being starved, the Gerudo being invaded by zombi- I mean Gibdos and the Gorons being mind controlled by Ganondorf's puppet. The Puppet Zelda quest could have been handled a lot better, however I have read people's posts about why Link didn't tell anyone about it and I choose to believe that (because a lot of this game is based around theory crafting, like Josha for example, she's all about making theories of the past). Purah not commenting on you having the Master Sword until AFTER you finish the Crisis at Hyrule Castle quest is extremely awkward, especially if you have it on your back. The Ring Ruins quest is also really good, needing to explore the Zonai Ruins to find clothes from the era of the Zonai. Mineru (my beloved)'s quest is genuinely incredible. Building a construct then being able to drive her around is such an amazing idea.
The cast of characters in this game is filled with really great characters. Yes, the ancient Sages are literal WHO? HOWEVER, outside of them, Impa and the Deku Tree, the rest of the cast is really great. Rauru's character arc is my favorite in the series, topping Groose's for me. Sonia is also a really charming character. Both of them are the parents that this Zelda deserved. Such excellent parents. Mineru's my favorite of the cast solely because I can relate to having VERY unhealthy hyperfixation and work issues. Tulin's a really fun character to be around. Sidon's arc is really, really good in this game and the fact that they tied it back to Mipha's death from the Calamity helps the ties between the games become even stronger. Yunobo went from a bottom-tier character to a very solid character for me in this game (partially because he wasn't associated with Scrapper Eldin quest 2.0 this time). Riju is an excellent leader for the Gerudo, willing to put herself in danger for her people. Purah is a bit awkward in terms of writing but she's still good (and thankfully not tied to a backtracking quest this time).
The music REALLY helps make this game's story stand out compared to every other Zelda game story (besides MAYBE Skyward Sword's). Remember His Name is such a powerful and emotional version of Link's theme. The theme from the final Dragon's Tear is what makes me shed a tear every playthrough. Seized Construct's theme helps make that fight hit harder since its a corrupted version of Mineru's theme. Hyrule Castle's theme is more somber than BotW's, which is fitting. The transition themes between the Sky -> Surface and the Surface -> Depths really help make diving feel even more satisfying. Each Sage's theme fits their personality perfectly.
The gameplay in this game is genuinely perfect. The dungeons (hot take) are extremely fun to do, every time I do them I learn a new method for at least one of their puzzles. The Shrines are FAR better in this game than they were in BotW. The Proving Grounds Shrines feel more like a test than BotW's Tests of Strength. HOWEVER, they, for whatever reason, decided to make MORE combat tutorial Shrines. Now for abilities... Ultrahand and Fuse are SUPER fun to toy around with. Ascend ruined gaming for me because I'm so addicted to using it. Recall is crazy and its incredible how they got it to work as perfectly as they did (also great way to reach the Sky Islands).
Now onto the new environments in this game. The Sky Islands are beautiful. While they aren't for the most part visually distinct, a LOT of them are extremely unique. Lightcast Island is especially a really fun island. Thunderhead Isles and Dragonhead Island are amazing as well. Dragonhead's theme is one of my favorite ambient themes ever, its so calming. The Depths is really fun to run around in, except when you run into a pile of Gloom, that really sucks. Construct Factory and Spirit Temple are literal perfection. Fire Temple is also such a really cool dungeon.
Alright, now that I'm done, did my opinion on this game change after my sixth playthrough? ...No. This game is still absolutely incredible and a masterpiece of a game. No matter how much I get harassed (which I have been harassed multiple times over this), my opinion still remains the same on this game. Yes it has its issues, yes I think there are aspects that could be very much improved, but I feel this way with literally every game ever. Thank you for reading my rambling, have a good day.

i was putting this in the tags but it got so long that it was basically an entire post anyway so. okay. listen to me. hear me out:
I know Champions was bad. I know Champions was really, really, agonizingly bad, and because they dripfed it to us over months you never got used to it because UGH. GOD. NEW SUPPLY MISSION. every 3 weeks or whatever and it just was not fun. You were always being freshly reminded of how bad Champions was. The character writing is bad (No asura except Taimi has basically anything to say about Primordus, and she's portrayed as basically just being ridiculously hysterical about it?? They've been smoothing her down over time but it was real bad here.), DRMs were fucking miserable, I think DRM CMs are still bugged, and Dragonstorm is Okay but there's only so many times you can watch Jormag puke in their brother's mouth and hear CHAMPION!! HELP ME!! THIS POWER!! IT'S TOO WILD!! before you're just going BenAffleckWithACigarette.png about the whole shebang. IN THE MEANTIME, FIRE ALAR[sniper rifle shot rings out. i crumple bonelessly to the ground]
Here is the thing. Here is the horrible truth I realized when I did Seasons of the Dragons:
The rest of Icebrood Saga was good. (Cut for length. I, uh, I kinda went on about this & about why I think SotO is so bad. Sorry. I have strong thoughts and feelings. When I said 'length', by the way, I meant it,)
Grothmar is a fuckin killer start to the story. It's fun!! It's a great looking map and it has a good story chapter and the Metal Legion part of the meta kicks ass. This release also introduced Strike Missions, aaand admittedly the first one was Shiverpeaks Pass, which is barely a Strike (it's barely anything, you can get gold time on it with eight healers and nothing else), but yknow what? Strikes are good, I stand by that.
After Grothmar we move onto Bjora Marches, which I will freely admit kind of sucks to play. Masteries are bad. The events are repetitive. Storms of Winter also sucks to play if people on the map are incompetent. Light puzzles hate you personally. But even with all of that taken into account, East Bjora is still my favorite map in the game from an atmospheric & story level. The Pact soldiers who wander out into the cold and never come back? The ones who just mutter to themselves near the horrifyingly mauled bodies of their friends? Jormag actively gaslighting everyone involved in the whole situation? The fact it's the only map in the game where events being the exact same every time is actively called out because you are canonically trapped in a loop and you keep forgetting?? Bright Shore's entire little sidequest? The boneskinner jumpscares where you go THAT'S AN NPC I CAN INTERACT WITH TO START AN EVENT -- Check your minimap. There's no emblem there. No it's not :) The scare chords when it just shows up to look at you spookily!! The fraenir cutscene where Jormag talks through his broken body!! I'm not going to say that west Bjora is like, good either, but it's still Fine. These releases also brought us the other 2/3rds of the EZ3 IBS Strikes, Boneskinner (man. how was this in the same release as those two.), and Whisper of Jormag.
I actually don't really have a lot to say about Visions of the Past: Steel and Fire, it's very much a weird stopgap HEY DID YOU GUYS KNOW WE BROUGHT BACK LWS1 FIGHTS AS INSTANCES GO CHECK THEM OUT thing, but my toxic trait is that I am deeply endeared by Forging Steel. Everyone in that warband is so fucking weird and it's fundamentally charming. Ranoah has like two braincells to rub together but she's having a GREAT time. (This release also brought the legendary ring Conflux and the legendary amulet Transcendence to the game!) Oh, yeah, and this was also the episode that had Eye of the North release as a hub, that was good, can't forget that.
AAAND THEN WE GET TO DRIZZLEWOOD. Drizzlewood Coast my fucking beloved I could play this thing for loops on end. I really, really like the gameplay of South Drizzlewood, it's all the stuff I like about WvW. This gave us Waystations! We like waystations. They're good. The 'unlocking missions via documents' is clearly padding but honestly it's fun padding so who give a shit, not me. South Drizzlewood released without voice acting because it was mid-first surge of COVID and it was still incredible. All the Charr ambient dialogue is wonderful! I'm haunted by the fact Ryland is canonically really sexy by Charr standards. "Look around! You're killing your own! You don't want this, I know you don't!" vs Vishen at Wolf's Crossing made me so insane I wrote a fic about it and even now I want to gnaw it like a dog with a chewtoy, as someone with an older Charrmander it fuckin hits. AND THE FACT A BUNCH OF THE CACHE KEEPERS ARE FROM CHARR PERSONAL STORY. ARWARAWRAWRA. Also Cold War was in here but that strike is so fundamentally Whatever honestly. I like it but did you know ONE BY ONE, I'LL RAZE YOUR RANKS (why didn't they give her more generic voice lines.)
North Drizzlewood's story is Fine. Gameplay is a downgrade but still honestly pretty fun, I like the Claw coming back for a last hurrah. This is where they really had to start figuring out 'oh fuck how do we 1. introduce Primordus as active in this plot, 2. kill Primordus, and 3. start working towards the Cantha expansion narratively by the end of next episode' and you can kind of tell: Memories of Otter are Not Good and this also brought Charged Stormcaller weapons which are Not Good.
And Then We Had Champions.
And Champions sucked so bad and was so frustratingly bad that it retroactively made everyone remember the entirety of Icebrood Saga as REALLY TERRIBLE. Which it was not! I'm sorry! It was solid! But we got like three story steps every two months, a few boring-as-hell Dragon Response Missions, the dragonslayer weapons [hissing in disgust] -- the writing was not good (Canach what did they fucking do to you. They flanderized that man. Where is John DiMaggio.) and the entire gameplay loop was just 'farm DRMs. That's it. That's all your new content. They're not even new maps.' At least these added a bunch of basically-free Mastery Points but... cmon, man. (I think Champions also added the Central Tyria exploration mastery points? That was good.)
And then... SotO. Which had so much potential and has completely failed to meet any of it.
tl;dr here are my Takes on SotO because it got so much longer than it should have been, so if you don't want to read a really sloppy essay (some of these I don't even go into in said "essay" for length reasons):
I'm almost completely sure that the writers do not have any sort of world or lore bible, aren't even bothering to check the wiki, and it shows.
Zojja got character assassinated (as did the asura in general) & her narrative role would be much better filled by Caithe or even potentially Logan. There's nothing about her here that means she specifically needs to be Zojja, & in fact there are several points where her being Zojja is detrimental. She's probably 1. here because they wanted a familiar face for players going coregame > SotO for Skyscale and 2. amnesiac because that way she can't reference past expansions, but she really doesn't need to be here.
The Astral Ward are written in a kind of creepy way, which the narrative had some interest with engaging in at release and then decided Nope They're Good Guys And Joining Them Is Good And Has No Downsides.
All the postlaunch content drops feel like they went directly from draft > game with no revisions done in between. There's a lot of roughness that could be a lot smoother if they'd gone through actual drafting.
Why are the Kryptis monsters? They're written completely like normal people. You could have just made them humanoids in Oneiros armor and said 'the ones attacking Tyria have specifically chosen to look that way' but no. Almost complete lack of unique models & even humanoid models, Peitha is pulling a Fantasy Race Sexy Woman (I love her but like. C'mon.)
Why are we Peitha's bff?? Why don't we have a single ounce of doubt in her?? Why is her cause being portrayed as completely good and cool and heroic?? You're better than this, GW2.
The Commander is not a player insert or a mute protagonist. Up until now the GW2 story has given them consistent characterization and writing -- they have a lot to say about things! In SotO, especially postlaunch, they're halfway to being a mute protagonist and they're really, really passive. They're just acting on whatever the Good Heroic NPC tells them to do.
Half the material we're being fed narratively has no actual basis in the map itself or anywhere else. It feels awkward and clunky.
Even mechanically it struggles. Difficulty in SotO isn't based on mechanics or timing, it's just giving monsters more HP and making them do more damage.
As opposed to prior 'bad writing' GW2 content where there was at least enough to work with, if you want to make a coherent story out of this for your Commander you really have to rewrite half the expansion.
Where's the Commander's gaggle of twentysomething-fortysomething disaffected adults!! They need those!!
Skyscale/Griffon flying buffs were good, though, I love the updraft usage & Skyscale being siege now is nice.
I want SotO to be good so, so bad, and I'm deeply frustrated that it isn't. It doesn't feel like GW2 narratively after the core release, and I'm saying this as someone who adores Skywatch and spent hours exploring it launch week and who was really optimistic after finishing the launch content. It just feels bad.
FIRST OFF. Zojja. The current writers' room ever since EoD has fucking hated asura and cannot stop dunking on how backwards they are compared to Cantha technologically (THEY HAVE SATELLITES!! THEY'VE HAD SATELLITES!!). They've also done character assassination on Gorrik and Taimi (Gorrik moreso. That man was Inquest. He got arrested for bioterrorism and he'd do it again. He incubated a beetle under his skin!) and they've, uh -- I wrote an entire section on this and deleted it because it's not SotO relevant but trust me I have Strong Feelings on this front.
Asura society is a meritocracy. They might be a little ableist but Zojja would absolutely not be a pariah post-HoT, everyone'd be banging on her door. Which would be one thing if her journals portrayed it like that and that she was 100% isolating herself, but that's... not really what's in there! There's also the implication that the Commander and none of her friends really bothered checking up on her at all after a bit, which. That sucks. That really really sucks. Especially for Taimi, because Taimi would not have coped well with Zojja disappearing after HoT, that's her parental-slash-mentor figure.
Her character writing in SotO, especially after becoming a Wizard, is... I dunno who that is, man. That's not Zojja. Even if you were an Asura commander, she was not your bestie, she was a bitch! And I loved her for that but the point remains! If you weren't an Asura commander you really did not hang out with her basically ever. Why are you her missing BFF now? They could've excused this if it was written well enough, you can really excuse anything, but It's Not. Her also willingly going through wizardification is rough. You telling me she didn't think about Snaff at all? Again: who is this Asura? Because based on everything we know about Zojja's personality and feelings and behavior, this ain't her. And then they basically just wrote all the wizards out of the story when we went to Nayos anyway so like... why was she here?? Prerelease promotional content was like SHE'S GONE THROUGH SO MUCH CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OFFSCREEN AND SHE'S SO INTEGRAL TO YOUR STORY HERE. Is she. Did she. What expansion were you playing, it was not the one that came out. (My reigning theory is that they didn't bother actually reading up on her personality/history beyond a two-sentence briefing, because giving her amnesia means that for any players who go basegame>SotO she's 1. a familiar face, since Destiny's Edge is your basegame companion party and 2. can't reference your past adventures, because she's forgotten.) Do we go 'hey, Zojja, I think erasing all your memories both good and bad to become a wizard is probably kind of a rash decision'? No we go 'Zojja I'll support you whatever option you take :)' and treat her doing this like an unambiguously good thing.
You know who would've made for a deeply compelling wizard in that character slot? Caithe. Caithe is isolated from the Sylvari and from just about everyone. She hangs out with the Crystal Bloom, but with Aurene going into hibernation for who knows how long... her job's done. Her daughter's asleep and may not wake up within Caithe's lifetime. The world doesn't need her anymore. She's already established to be prone to making rash decisions that make her look really, really bad to us because we don't get to hear the context -- having her just ghost everyone and become a wizard would work. And if she ascends? She'll still be alive when Aurene wakes up. She's basically been completely irrelevant since LWS4 even with her occasional cameos, the Commander's doing 95% of the 'Champion of Aurene' work. She and Rytlock are the GW2 characters. Logan could also work! Logan went through the same shit as Zojja in HoT and he struggles with his identity and his dedication to the Queen! He's a Guardian, he already uses magic! Logan Thackeray who, apparently.
Smarter people than me have written on the Astral Ward but they're... deeply kind of culty and the game is just not interested in examining this at all after the base content drop. The Astral Ward is Good. Isgarren might be a jerk sometimes but even he is Good. They're The Good Guys. When you join the Ward you can't go home again, except you literally can, we see a bunch of existing NPCs who are apparently leading double lives. They put real people into the fractals as test subjects! There's some interesting writing on that in Skywatch! But after the base drop that's just. Gone.
Mabon dies unceremoniously without even a cutscene after you've known the guy for like three hours. I don't have anything else to say on that but man. He deserved better. I'd say something about his husband friend Lyhr but Lyhr basically just disappears after the first two maps so WHO KNOWS. (Literally what is Lyhr's deal, I don't think they even actually really go into it, he can just. Do that? Split into two? The game feels like it expects you to understand What He's Doing and that it's a Thing He Can Do. Is it??? What is he doing. It's deeply fascinating! Please tell me! I genuinely want to know!)
And then we hit all the post-first release story/content drops, and this is where things get substantially worse, because up to this point SotO has had promise. There's space for it to tell a really fascinating story. It's struggling with character writing & trying to nostalgiabait & feels a little mechanically rushed (I wish the Kryptis had different animations from the rigs they reuse :( ) but, like, it's got potential.
And Then It Doesn't. Suddenly, immediately, we are Fully On Board With Peitha, who's been a voice in our head who told us not to tell people about her. She's our bestie, we would trust her to the end of the world, she is Definitely Good. We go to Nayos! Nayos looks great! The environment artists did so good I'm so proud of them!! And after all the info we've gotten about how kryptis are monstrous and inhuman and how we have been killing them en masse like dogs we go there and it's -- you could swap out all these NPC models with normal humanoids and nothing would change. There's no point to them being weird monsters. It's frustrating!! They're inhuman mist beings who eat emotions!! Oh, right, the writers forgot the 'eat emotions' part already. A couple of Kryptis NPCs talk about how you're so weird and freaky looking but it's kind of played as a joke.)
Ignaxious doesn't even have a unique model. We get introduced to a couple of also no unique model Kryptis, some of who are then sacrificed onscreen and we're... supposed to feel sorry for them? We don't know these people. It's nothing. This is all so fundamentally nothing. Eparch's wife (I literally had to wiki her name. Labris.) has a unique model! Sure, she's wearing mostly Oneiros armor, but it's something! And she shows up for two and a half instances and kills herself and it's supposed to be a Big Dramatic Moment and it's just Nothing.
They could've made Nayos 1 a Drizzlewood type thing, where you're taking back Kryptis settlements from Eparch's enforcers and slowly winning the trust of the people and made it implied to take weeks. They didn't. It's sooooo nothing. It's just nothing.
(Also this frankly is not even a really SotO-specific crime, but what are they DOING with fractal lore. Cmon. You could at least do more with Fractals and the Mists! WvW is canon!! It's the Mist War!! Where is Arkk I know he's fucking out there -- what am I saying, nobody on the writing team RN knows who he is.)
And like I've said this a lot but I emphasize: I want SotO to be good. I was deeply optimistic after it initially released and I played through the first ten chapters and I was still deeply optimistic, and that optimism has just... been shattered. I don't think the devs are getting nearly enough time as they need to make the releases even passable, and I think there's probably been so much turnover in the writing team that nobody in it really plays the game, or at least it feels like that. I think they need time to find their footing, because the base SotO writing is. Fine. Not great but workable. But besides that, everything since Gyala 2 has been deeply rough.
I see a SotO story drop update and I don't run to my game and update it and get excited, I just feel like the game's going COMMANDER, IT'S CONTENT DROP TIME, TIME FOR YOUR DICK FLATTENING and I'm just standing there going yes honey :( in a dead voice. Prev said it doesn't feel like ANet is even trying anymore and... yeah! It doesn't! This is slop! They're not even trying to dress it up as fancy slop it's just Slop.
GW2! Love that game! Wish it was good
Alright, Iâve personally been wondering what other peopleâs opinions on this would be, so
*I know IBS isnât a true expansion but itâs got its own mastery line so Iâm counting it

This was the only time in the show where one of the main trio interacted with one of the forge master duo.
And, I gotta admit, this was one of the things that disappointed me in the show. As much as I love this series, I do wish these two storylines had converged in the end.
Like I really thought there would come a point when the vampire sisters invaded Wallachia and Sypha and Trevor would encounter Hector and realize he was an unwilling participant. Similar to the scene we got with Isaac, Hector would say he couldnât help them because of the blood ring restraining him. And with all the fighting theyâd been through and Trevor just being straight up done with everyone and their mother, I think he would have just handed Hector a knife and said, âYou have two options.  Youâre either our ally or our enemy.  Cut that ring off and help us or Iâll kill you. Whatâll it be?â Harsh perhaps, but a big part of Trevorâs character is âdo whatâs necessaryâ no matter the personal cost, so I donât imagine he would have had much patience for Hector.  And thatâs a difference between Trevor and Hectorâs characters that I really need to go into in a separate character analysis.

This was my outlook when Season 3 ended though. We did leave off with the return of Trevorâs dark view of the world in spite of the positive influence Sypha brought, and Hector realizing the consequences of trusting Lenore. The series played Season 4 off pretty well in that Hector did have initiative was actively conspiring behind the scenes in order to give Isaac the opening he needed to take out Carmilla. So Iâm glad they didnât write Hector off as âthe helpless one.â
On another couple of notes, I kinda thought/hoped Syphaâs grandfather would make a reappearance in the final season and he would be the one to finish what the Ship Captain started in guiding Isaac along his journey of letting go of his anger and just living well, but thatâs just me.
Back in Season 2, Isaac refers to Alucard as a spoiled child, and I really want to know what that was all about. In the battle against the Generals and the Styrian soldiers, Isaac and Alucard seem to recognize each other, but did they have any interaction with each other before Lisa died? Maybe Iâm wrong and Isaac just thought, âThereâs only one person that could be.â Iâve talked about my theory that Alucard was a sheltered child and hadnât seen much hardship in his life before his mother was killed, so I can see him and Isaac resenting each other out of emotional immaturity. It would have been interesting to see that development in their characters.
But I get it. The show only had a limited number of episodes and didnât have time for all the tiny nuanced story arcs, and thatâs fine. An important element of writing is being aware of which parts are the essential and which are ones you need to cut. If it were a longer running series like Avatar: The Last Airbender, then I would expect some more attention and care put into the subplots and side characters. Itâs a little touch and go with Striga and Moranaâs relationship, Zamfirâs backstory wasnât as developed as it could have been, and there are other elements that felt rushed.
Even so, I truly think the end result was fantastic.

hmmmm okay going over my Thoughts on sbr now
over all it was pretty good id say. like johnny and gyro were wonderful characters and i really like how they grew over the story, like both actively developed as characters, which like while not unheard of in jojo before (notably jolyne develops even more as a protagonist than johnny i think) was still notable i think because they did so by learning from each other. their relationship really was the core of the story in a lot of ways and it worked for meâŚ... and the story really was fun and cool at parts, from the early focus on the actual race to all the intrigue later on with the hunt for corpse parts. also the art was so pretty.
but honestly i do NOT see how people think that sbr is the best written jojo work, like i went into it wondering if it was maybe a bit overrated and i do feel like it isâŚ.. as a overall story i think p4 is better executed and as for thematic intrigue and interesting ideas stocean also has it beat. its likeâŚ.. all the stuff with the holy corpse was interesting but the story got SOOO convoluted in the latter half. like even by jojo standards it felt really confusing and badly explained at times and failed to work IMOâŚâŚ it was just too complex. that and over all sbr could have been streamlined A LOT like not only with the corpse parts but so many of the fights early on felt like they dragged on too⌠it did not need to be the longest jojo part by THAT MUCHâŚ. also the ending fell a little flat with the au diego stuff, like it felt a bit pointless TO ME for the most part.
but all of that kinda pales in comparison to the gratuitous treatment of lucy. i dont automatically dislike the idea of araki trying to write about sa or even csa, since i find that stories that deal with them can be cathartic and important, even if its not 100% perfect. but the thing is it all felt like it was done for shock value more than anything else (not only with lucy but also with ringos childhood and valentines fathers torture). its all excessive and any believable emotions of horror araki might have tried to conjure with lucys assaults were ruined IMO by their excessiveness, the treatment of mountain tim as a hero, and the fact that araki himself would not stop drawing the 14 year old girl half naked (looking like an adult!) in incredibly sexualized poses both in general and also WHILE being assaulted by valentine. it was gratuoitous and tastless like i said and just makes any points that could be made about the subject ring really hollow to me.
anyways like i said earlier today sbr was a good story except for when it wasnt and when it wasnt it Really wasnt

Pulse Pt.1 (Loki x Reader)
So I got this idea from a creative writing blog that you can find here. Basically the prompt is feeling their pulse. Enjoy!Â
NOW COMPLETE. Check masterlist for part 2!
Summary: Your pulse calms Loki down. Multiple scenarios where Loki finds solace in your pulse.Â
The first time it happens itâs completely normal. You had been fighting next to Loki when you had been shot. The shot of energy had gone straight through and left a small hole in your abdominal area. Luckily it missed all your vital organs somehow but you were still on the ground in agony. Youâre curled into a fetal position and too quiet for Lokiâs liking.
Loki ran up and threw up a shield, then put two fingers on your neck and you watched, uncurling, as this man counted mentally. When he is satisfied with your pulse he looks down at you, noticing your movement. âDonât think of checking out now, the battle has just begun.â He smirks.
âI think Iâll stay right here, hurts less when I donât move.â You groan.
Loki rolls his eyes at your dramatics, heâs definitely seen you worse off than now.Â
âMust I carry you? Choose wisely because depending on your answer, you may ruin my reputation.â Loki says.Â
You smile coyly up at the god. âAhhhh I canât feel my legs, I see the light!âÂ
Loki laughs under his breath but picks you up and as he stands his shield dissipates. He starts making his way towards the medical team that thankfully set up as the Avengers started their attack on Dr. Doomâs invasion.Â
Youâre thoroughly enjoying Loki carrying you around like you weigh nothing. He nimbly steps and jumps over fallen rubble making sure not to jostle you too much and make you hurt more.Â
You have half a mind to hold a finger to your ear and activate your headpiece.Â
âCap, Iâm down and out, Youâll need someone to cover the right side of the attack until Loki can get back into position.â
âWhy is Loki out?â You hear Tony ask.Â
âBecause heâs carrying me.â You fail to realize how bad thisâll sound considering youâve walked off a field with a broken tibia and a gunshot wound to the chest.
âWhat hit you that hard?â Steve yells, small explosions in the background of his audio but the concern still very evident in his voice.
âUh....â You look up at Loki who glances at you and smirks. He canât activate his headpiece and he probably likes watching you explain that you demanded to be carried for no good reason.Â
So you do what any brat would do and blame Loki. âLoki was very concerned about me not hurting myself further. I told him I could walk but he insisted. Iâm fine, just a hole in my stomach!âÂ
When you look up at the god again he is clenching his jaw instead of smirking, his eyes stay forwards but you know, oh you know, youâre going to be punished for this.Â
~~~Â
The next time Loki does it youâre in the middle of this limbo state of liking and not liking each other romantically. Liking each other comes naturally but when one or both of you realize this is a concoction for a bad idea (itâs really not youâre probably both just in denial) you both avoid each other for a few days before coming around again when you miss each other too much.Â
With this new limbo thing going on you both get random cuddles. Meaning itâs completely normal that youâre laying on the couch with Loki behind you. The god breathes into your neck softly, seeing as he has fallen asleep. You frown when you realize Loki has a hand wrapped under your waist that comes to your front and across your chest to rest on your pulse point on your neck. He has his hand there and from the outside it might look possessive. However, you know better and realize the god is soothed by being able to feel your pulse point.Â
You tab this in your head and relax again. You play on your phone for awhile. Natasha makes her way through the living room to the kitchen without a word. When she passes again, this time with a bowl of cereal, she stops to look at you two from the other side of the couch.Â
You look at Natasha without bumping Loki and raise a brow at the assassin. She chews on some cereal then purses her lips after swallowing. âYou guys ever going to, uh, work this thing out? Iâve got a bet going on and Iâd like to win it.â
You canât help the snort that comes out of you causing Loki to huff in his sleep then curl into you more and his hold on your neck becomes a little tighter. You look from Loki to Natasha with wide eyes.Â
âItâs a work in progress.â Is all you give her and she nods and stalks off.Â
~~~
The next time Loki does it itâs by your hand. Loki is fighting someone from Asgard, you donât know his name, but he knows exactly what to say to rile up Loki. Loki starts attacking him with pure rage and unrepentant emotion. When Loki gets the chance he knocks the guy down and straddles his hips, beating the life out of him with his fists even though heâs already knocked out.Â
You rush to Loki and grab one of his hands. Before he does something he regrets you open his hand and place it on your pulse. It takes you a few tries to find it through his hands but when you do find it Loki stops beating the guy with his other hand and just sits there breathing haggardly with his eyes clenched tight.Â
You say nothing and let Loki feel your pulse as long as he needs. Itâs not long though, Lokiâs breath is normal and he opens his eyes and looks at you. Standing from the Asgardianâs bloody body and pulling you into him into a hug. You wrap your arms around Loki and he holds your head to his neck, breathing in your scent through your hair.
âQuick thinking.â Loki chokes out.Â
âMmhmm.â You hum into his neck.
When the Avengers show up to apprehend the Asgardian you go to pull from Lokiâs embrace, knowing heâs a bit iffy showing PDA in front of the team. What shocks you is that Loki grabs your wrist and stops you from getting too far. You share a look through your eyes and Lokiâs hand drifts from your wrist to your hand instead.Â
You let the look of shock pass over your face and then smile at Loki and hold his hand back. When you turn around Steve in looking at your hands but quickly looks up to both of you and nods at the Asgardian on the ground.Â
âWas that really necessary?â Steve asks as you hear Tony in the background trying to rouse the beaten man.Â
âHey, stupid, wake up!â You hear causing you to snort and bring a hand up to cover your mouth.
Steve rolls his eyes and looks at Loki for an answer.Â
âA lapse in judgement. I merely thought he was more of a hazard than he actually was.â Loki lets the excuse slip from his mouth like he truly means it. You definitely understand why he is called silver tongued.Â
Steve nods with a disapproving look on his face, because he lives with Loki and knows him well enough, but leaves the situation at that and goes over to Tony.Â
âStop slapping him! Youâre supposed to wake them up gently!â Steve yells at Tony.
Tony scoffs, âDude deserves it, he really thought he could beat Loki in hand to hand? Why are all Asgardian's so arrogant?âÂ
âTony!â Steve yells after another loud slapping noise rings in the air.Â
You and Loki begin to walk towards the extraction point. Loki has brought you into his side, his right arm around your shoulders, hugging you into him. His left hand holds onto your wrist, across his body, settled over your pulse point.Â
âWhen did you figure it out?â Loki asks you as you both walk.Â
You glance up at the god but decide to keep your eyes on the ground so you donât slip on anything. That would be embarrassing.Â
âYou werenât awake when I figured it out. We were cuddling in the living room and you had fallen asleep with your hand over my neck. Kinda pieced it together then.â You shrugged.Â
Loki gives a small âAhâ but doesnât implore.Â

Episode 3x14: A Reflection of How Max Stepped Into Love After A Season of Suffering
Gif credit @supagirl
Hey guys! I canât believe the season finale has come and gone! I think my mind is just taking time to comprehend everything that has happened! Sharpwin is officially canon! As Iâm typing this out, it feels strange writing a meta on the other side of things. Since season one, Iâve been writing metas about how these two belong together and making predictions about the trajectory of their relationship. Now, to be on the other side of things where I know longer have to do that because these two are finally together is kinda crazy. I feel so elated!
Now yâall, Iâm not going to lie to you, I had a totally different meta planned out and that meta is still in my drafts. I will probably release it because it was a general review of the episode but I thought it was more important that I put this meta out first. When I was watching the finale live, I didnât love it. I just didnât. I loved that Max and Helen finally got together at the end of the episode but I had a major issue with how it unfolded. The issue my friends was this scene right here:Â
Baby!!! When I tell you this scene TRIGGERED me, it did! Now mind you, I wasnât upset with Maxâs storyline of searching and struggling to take off his wedding ring. It is human nature for Max to still have an emotional attachment to his ring. Heâs not still grieving but essentially that ring is the only thing he has left of Georgia and represents a life he once had. Him taking it off was always going to be a monumental moment for Sharpwin and for himself. The issue that I had was Max casually telling Helen that he freaked out about losing his ring!!! To me, after the voicemail he left her, after Helen flew standby and was in a six hour flight to see him, it was an incredibly CALLOUS thing for Max to say. I know Max wasnât thinking in this moment. I know his intentions were clearly not to hurt her but words matter and him being careless with his was a complete disregard of Helenâs feelings. She was deeply hurt and upset when he said this and rightfully so! I mean just look at her expression here:
Helenâs entire being read like
âI canât believe youâ
And girl same, because neither could I!! He knew he fucked up and he obviously made up for it in the end but yâall when I was watching it live, everything that came after that elevator scene was was tainted for me. I had a hard time believing that Helen would let what he said slide so easily and in the moment, I couldnât appreciate the beauty of them finally coming together! đŠ In my personal opinion, there were so many other ways that scene could have played out without Max having to literally tell Helen to her face that he was worried about his wedding ring! I know they were trying to build up to the âbig momentâ where he finally takes his ring off and runs back to Helenâs apartment but man, that moment did not sit right with me in my spirit! It still doesnât and I donât think my opinion will ever change on this.
With that said, Iâve now done several rewatches of the finale where I specifically watched the scenes after that awful moment by the elevator. As Iâve had time to reflect, my perspective has changed. I no longer view the moments after the elevator scene as tainted but as something deeply profound and beautiful. Hell, even as I reflect on that scene by the elevator, I still donât like it, but in a way I understand it in how it relates to Maxâs overall journey when it comes to Helen. To me, Max Goodwin is a man who fell deeply in love with Helen in the midst of the most complex situations and a season of him suffering. Itâs been deep rooted, complicated and messy from the start and over the past three years weâve seen Max navigate through the complexities of his feelings for Helen and the circumstances heâs found himself in on our screens. I think when you look at season three finale and specifically the journey of Max finally making a choice to be with Helen, you have to put into context Maxâs history and how it influenced what that looked like. So yâall that is exactly what I want to do in this meta so letâs dive in.
One thing I think we need to acknowledge is that, even though as an audience we have loved seeing Max and Helenâs journey unfold, the road has been so TOUGH for them. As Helen said in 3x13, itâs been a fight! Especially for Max. The suffering he has endured over the past three years has been unfathomable and much of his relationship with Helen and his feelings for her have been developed under these traumatic and tragic circumstances.Â
At the very beginning of the series, when Max and Helen first meet they clash but it doesnât last for long. Itâs his first day at New Amsterdam and as the new Medical Director, he wants her to stay at the hospital and treat patients instead of doing press tours. Helen on the other hand wants to continue doing press and for the most part ignores his demands for her to return to the hospital. When she finally does return, she does so because she learns that Max has cancer. This bonds them at the onset as Helen is the only person in his life that knows about his diagnosis. As an audience, when we first see them interact, we instantly saw the sparks fly between them. Their chemistry and natural witty banter made us immediately take a look at their relationship and what potential they could have in the future. Though we were shocked by his cancer diagnosis, I think the fun and lightheartedness of Sharpwinâs first interactions really masked how traumatic this must have been for Max. On the first day of his dream job, that he sacrificed his marriage for, he learns that he has cancer while having a baby on the way. Those are the awful circumstances that first bring Max and Helen together.Â
As Helen becomes Maxâs doctor and he swears her to secrecy about his diagnosis, their friendship and bond grows deeper. His passion and drive to help his patients, reignites Sharpeâs love for medicine again and inspires her to put her patients first. They become vulnerable with each other more than anyone else in their lives. He confides in her about his broken marriage and she tells him that she wants a baby. When he almost dies, she becomes his deputy medical director so that he can focus on his care. All of these moments are significant to them because somewhere along the way they develop feelings for each other. They didnât plan for it and itâs something neither of them are consciously aware of but unknowingly, they both start to fill a place in each otherâs lives that was clearly more than a doctor and patient relationship or a friendship. This âplaceâ wasnât called out until episode 1x16 were the clairvoyant called out their feelings for each other. When episode 1x17 comes around, after a night of revelations and a scramble to get the power back on in the hospital, Helen decides to step back as his doctor. If she wasnât aware of her feelings before, in this moment, sheâs fully aware of them now. This is an effort to safeguard her heart and set boundaries because the lines of who they are to each other were already so blurred. When she âtriagesâ their relationship Maxâs reacts badly and honestly theyâre both devastated and are on the verge of tears:
As viewers, we loved this moment but when you peel back the layers of whatâs actually going on in this scene, itâs gut-wrenching. The subtext is so clear here yet their situation is so complex and layered. We know for a fact that Max wasnât trying to lose her in ANY CAPACITY. We also know that in the way he TRULY wanted her he couldnât have her and Helen knew that too. Not when he was married, had a baby on the way, and fighting cancer at the same time. Yâall thatâs hard and profoundly painful when you think about it and it makes this scene all the more tragic.Â
When Helen steps back as his doctor, at first Max seems to be handling it well but as his cancer starts to get worse, he completely breaks. Like I said earlier, over the course of his cancer treatment, Helen filled a place in Maxâs life that was so much more than just his doctor or his friend. So when heâs dying and no longer has the person he feels deeply for play an active role in his treatment, he lashes out. Heâs dealing with a range of emotions he canât handle or properly process. Things only get worse from there and at the end of season one Georgia and Lunaâs life are on the line and Bloom and Helen scramble to save them. When it seems like everyone was able to come out of that traumatic event unscathed, they get into a devastating ambulance crash that changes everything.Â
Season 2 brings another level of pain and suffering for Max when he loses his wife after the crash and is thrust into single fatherhood. Not only is he grieving but heâs also dealing with guilt of falling in love with Helen while he was married. The complexities of his feelings is something he struggles with throughout this season and it affects his relationship with Helen. At some points he pushes her away and at others he desperately needs her. Once again, Helen and Maxâs relationship is caught up in the most complex of circumstances that is riddled with agony and trauma.Â
By time we head into season 3, Max doesnât even have time to breathe or think about his relationship with Helen because theyâre both thrust to the frontlines of the pandemic.Â
I bring all of this up again to emphasize that there has never been a time where Max and Helenâs relationship hasnât been wrapped up in trauma or some sort of suffering. It has always been one thing or another with them. Itâs been A LOT and Max has tried to navigate being in love with Helen through his suffering and under these crazy ass circumstances. So after rewatching the finale, the questions that run through my mind are:
How do you step into love when all youâve known for the past three years has been suffering?
How do you love openly and freely when for so long youâve emotionally suppressed your feelings for someone because it was âwrong?âÂ
How do you let go, heal, and move on with your life?
To me, answering these questions is what the season finale for Max was all about. When youâve suffered so much and endured so much itâs not easy to step into a new chapter in your life thatâs hopeful and filled with love and possibilities. For Max, I donât think in his wildest dreams that he ever imagined that he and Helen would be in a place where they could actually be together. Considering everything theyâve gone through, quite frankly itâs a fucking miracle! So when he actually makes it to the other side and not only SURVIVES but has a chance for happiness, I donât think he knows what heâs doing. Pursuing/having feelings for Helen from a place that isnât wrapped up in trauma and tragedy, where there are seemingly no obstacles in his way, is totally and completely new territory for Max. I think heâs clueless in how to do that in the right way and as he navigates through that, naturally there are hiccups.
Thatâs evident with what he said by the elevator and also in this moment here:Â
Max doesnât have a clue but he wants to make sure that he doesnât fuck it up because he DESPERATELY wants this! I also think thereâs something to be said about how we as human beings can self-sabotage ourselves when we finally have an opportunity to get what we want. Fear, guilt, worthiness usually comes into play with that and I think for Max there was definitely a fear with moving on with his life, guilt of surviving it all and having a chance to be with the woman heâs loved for so long, and a question of if heâs worthy of actually having happiness.
Their walk in my mind perfectly embodies him self sabotaging while also trying to navigate his feelings of desperately wanting to be with her. At the beginning of their walk, you see that at one point he clearly wants to hold Helenâs hand but he doesnât (I would use a gif here yâall but I literally only have room for 10 đŠ). Iâm focusing my attention on Max here because essentially this whole moment between them is a part of Maxâs âmini storyâ in the episode. The ball has always been in his court and truly what we are witnessing is his journey to step into love because Helen is ready and has been waiting on him.Â
The most compelling moment in their walk scene for me was this one:Â
I find it strange for Max to walk so far ahead when he was the one who asked her if he could walk with her. My first thought while watching it live was âwhat is he doingâ and I think Helenâs expression reads the same way. After analyzing this for a bit, I genuinely think thatâs the point of this scene. Like I said earlier, Max doesnât know what heâs doing. To be with Helen like this is, where its romantic, peaceful and drama free is probably blowing his mind and he doesn't know how to navigate this. He doesnât know how to receive this second chance at happiness.Â
The internal war of Max stepping into love or allowing fear, guilt, and unworthiness to hold him back becomes all the more evident when they get to Helenâs door:Â
He knows he wants to come in. Helen know he wants to come in too. This man literally says goodnight twice and when Helen responds with âyou said that,â it perfects this scene. She wants him to come in as well but sheâs not going to ask him to. In this moment, she sees his internal struggle and she knows that he has to make the choice himself on whether or not he wants to move on with his life with her.
When he walks away, for a moment that was Max choosing to hold onto the pain and trauma of his past. That was him choosing to hold onto the guilt that was keeping him from healing and moving on. With the suffering heâs been through, it makes sense. In many ways heâs been conditioned to fight, to suffer and to endure. Itâs what heâs used to. But praise the lord, he thinks of the moments he just shared with Helen.Â
The joy he has with just being in her presence.Â
The opportunity he has to freely be with her and have a life with her after loving her for so long.
He is not condemned to a life of suffering. It was only for a season. Heâs in love with Helen and wants to be with her. Like hell is he going to let this opportunity at a second chance of love and happiness slip away from him. So guys, he slips off that ring, runs back to Helenâs apartment and makes a choice to step into love. Step into this new, uncharted, chapter of his life with Helen Sharpe.Â
Anyway guys! I hope yâall enjoyed this! I might be releasing one more meta but we will see how it goes.
As always feel free to reach out to me on Tumblr and on Twitter @oyindaodewale. Love you guys!

- Joy Ride -
(Saeyoung x F!MC)
**TW: cussing, implied seggs, my shitty writing lol
âNo, wait! Y/N this wasnât part of the bet!â Saeyoung exclaimed, following close behind you.
You spun on your heel to face him, âThe deal was, that if I got a perfect score on my final exam, I got to do one thing, anything I wanted. Thatâs what you said, right?â
âUm, w-well yeah, but I thought itâd be like, bedroom stuff or something. Not this.â He sounded so desperate. âBesides, I didnât think youâd actually do it.â
âSaeyoung!â You shouted, playfully slapping his arm and acting as if you were offended.
âOw! What? Iâve seen your test scores. I thought this was an easy win for me.â He confessed.
âRude.â You turned away from him and continued walking down the hallway, reaching the door of your destination. You stopped, and faced him again.
âWhat were you gonna ask for, had you won?â You asked, curiously.
He wiggled his eyebrows at you, âBedroom stuffs.â
You rolled your eyes and giggled, âGeez, you horn dog!â
You opened the door, and flicked on the light.
âItâs not to late to change your mind, Y/N! I-Iâll get you a puppy! Or we can do those tik tok thirst traps youâre always trying to talk me into. Please, Y/N. Anything but this.â
His last-ditch efforts to persuade you werenât working. You wouldnât change your mind.
âNo deal.â You said, nonchalantly grabbing a set of keys off their place on the holder on the wall, and jingling them at him.
âGet in. Weâre going for a drive.â
âY/N please, Iâm begging you. Not my babies!â He was all but having a nervous breakdown in the passenger seat.
âCalm down, Sae. She will come back in the exact condition sheâs in now.â You said, marveling at the jet black interior. The back light behind the dash and all the controls was the same color red as the exterior. You felt like a kid in a candy store.
Saeyoung groaned in the seat next you you. âWhy did you have to pick the most expensive one though?â
The car you chose happened to be a limited edition Herrari, highly customized, and extremely pricey. It was definitely his favorite one.Â
âBecause of why itâs the most expensive.â You said, practically bouncing in your seat. You turned the key, and she roared to life. Adrenaline rushed through you.
Your response slightly confused him. âBecause you look cool?â
You scoffed, âThatâs just a perk, I guess.â You buckled your seat belt, then turned to look at him. âIâm after that customized, super charged engine.â You confessed, quickly putting it in gear and zooming out of the garage.
You were weaving in and out of traffic with ease, heading for a more secluded area. Saeyoung kept making odd little noises beside you, and you were sure you even heard him silently praying.
You chuckled at him, âRelax, alright? Iâm an excellent driver. Probably even better than you.â
Oh, now heâs salty.
âNo one knows my babies better than I do.â He said, matter-of-factly, crossing his arms over his chest. You laughed at him.
âThereâs things about me that even you donât know, Mr. Hacker.â Your mysteriousness has intrigued him.
âDo tell.â He prompted you.
âMy folks owned a mechanic shop.â You began, âI grew up in that garage, learning to work on all kinds of cars. From oil changes on family minivans, to fully customizing sports cars. Like this one.â You gently patted the steering wheel. âIâve always been around cars.â
âA basic background check revealed that after you first came to the RFA.â
âYes, but the most important part is secret. It canât be found on any files, anywhere.â
Traffic had thinned out a lot, now that the sun was starting to set, leaving the highway wide open. You accelerated, knowing that you would soon reach your destination. He did seem to be relaxing a little.
To say that Saeyoung was curious, was an understatement. He loved unearthing secrets. Itâs kinda what he does.Â
You exited the highway onto the all too familiar secluded stretch of road you knew so well.
Saeyoung looked out the window and turned to you, his eyes were big and curious. What were you planning?Â
âGo on.â He urged.
âWell, when I got old enough, my Dad let me in on the family business that happened after hours: street racing.â
âStreet racing? But, why would that be secret?â He asked.
You pulled into what looked like an abandoned lot. The thick cover of trees kept it well hidden while you were on the road. It wasnât until you pulled further in, that he noticed several sets of lights. He was so confused.
When you got closer, he noticed that the lights were actually headlights, belonging to dozens of drool worthy sports cars.
âWell, you see, itâs kinda... illegal.â You confessed with a sheepish grin.
He looked at you with wide eyes, mouth slightly hanging open.Â
âY/N L/N! You? Illegal?â He put his hand over his heart as if he were shocked. Although, he really was.
âOh, stop! Like you didnât use to do all kinds of illegal things before you got out of the agency.â
âWell yeah, but this is you weâre talking about! Sweet, innocent Y/N. Well, youâre not very innocent when we-â
âSae!â You yelled, causing him to laugh at you.
âFor real though. I wouldâve never pegged you as someone to be into something like this.â He said, gesturing to all the other cars in front of you.
âYou should know better than anyone that you shouldnât judge a book by itâs cover, 707.â He smiled at you.
 Although his time with the agency was agonizing, he didnât mind the use of his old code name. Especially if it came from you.
You circled around, and parked the car at the very end of the line. You popped the hood and got out of the car. Saeyoung followed suit, and propped the hood open. His car wasnât the most customized car there, but it was one of the rarest which quickly drew in a flock of enthusiasts.
âShall we, 606?â Saeyoung was smiling as he extended his hand out to you. You took it, intertwining your fingers in his.Â
The two of you walked around, hand-in-hand, looking at all the other cars and talking specs with the owners. Saeyoung was in Heaven. His âprecious babiesâ wish list was getting longer by the minute. You couldnât help but giggle at him.
âSo, what about all of this makes it illegal?â He asked.Â
You were now sitting on the little grassy hill behind all the cars, watching as one after the other raced each other.Â
The empty lot used to belong to a mall that was demolished long ago, leaving behind the giant lot and the long stretch of road attached to it. It became abandoned after the new highway was built. It was the perfect place for racing though.
âSome of these cars have parts in them that make them illegal.â you explained, âthe parts themselves are in fact legal, like the engine and spoilers and stuff. But after theyâre customized, they make the car much faster and itâs no longer âstreet legal.â Theyâre not as worried about the car parts as much as they are about the racing, though.â
Saeyoung nodded in understanding, turning toward you slightly, âSo, how exactly did your parents get into all of this?â He asked, gesturing around you.
You pulled your knees to your chest, wrapping your arms around your legs, âMy dadâs always been a gear head, so when he overheard a conversation about some underground racing ring, he had to go see it for himself. He ended up meeting my mom at one of those races, too. Our whole family is car crazy.â You said with a laugh.
âDoes it bother you? I mean, the legality of it all?â He, more than anyone, knew the toll getting mixed up in illegal activity to take on a person. Granted, his was far worse than some illegal car parts, but still.
âKinda, but we just wanna race fast cars. We donât want to hurt anyone, which is why we come all the way out here. Thereâs far worse criminals than us.â That doesnât justify it, but whatever.
As you were talking, you noticed some of the people around the two of you started to scramble. You jumped up from where you had been sitting.Â
Saeyoung, immediately reverting to fight or flight Agent 707 mode, was on his feet in an instant.
âWhat is it? Whatâs wrong?â He asked, voice heavy with concern, scanning your face.
Just then, through the trees right before you turn into the lot, you saw flashing lights. Someone behind you shouted.
âCops!â
You turned to Saeyoung, âCâmon, we gotta go! Now!â
You ran to the car, pulling Saeyoung by the hand behind you, and got in the driverâs seat. You wasted no time starting the engine, thinking over your escape plan.
Several cop cars were pouring into the lot. You buckled the seat belt and took a deep breath. Saeyoung seemed surprisingly calm, given the situation.
âYouâre not nervous?â You asked.
âAbout the cops? Nah. The driving Iâm sure youâre about to do in my most precious baby? Absolutely.â
âYou havenât even seen driving yet.â You said with a devilish grin, prompting him to buckle up.
People all around you jumped in their cars and sped off. You put it in drive and accelerated quickly, going the opposite way as the majority. A few others following suit, seeming to be aware of this most unused exit.
âIsnât that the only way in here?â Saeyoung asked, referring to the entrance the cops kept flooding in from, you shook your head.
âWhen the mall was still here, there were several ways in and out. Some of those are impassable now due to the demo of the building, or because nature took over and itâs now overgrown. However, there are still a couple ways out.â You assured him, âAnd, arenât you the one who said to always have an exit strategy?â He grinned slightly.
âYouâve learned well, 606.â You smiled at the use of your favorite nickname.
The exit you took was a little different than the highway you took to get here. It was considered a âback wayâ out. The secluded road was a little curvier, with some small hills thrown in.Â
During the daylight, the scenery was beautiful but at night it could be dangerous if you werenât careful. To make sure you were always prepared, your father made you drive all over the area around the racing lot, until you knew every entrance and exit like the back of your hand.
The speedometer steadily climbed, the car hugging every twist and turn, like it was made specifically for this road. After a couple random turns, you were sure you had long lost any cops that may have followed you. You let up on the gas a little, letting your current speed slowly fall back into the âSaeyoungâs most precious babyâ approved range.
âWhoa.â Saeyoung said quietly, he hadnât said anything since you first got in the car.
âYou okay?â You were worried that maybe he was on the verge of losing it. A lot of people canât handle going such high speeds. They either get really scared, or puke. Or both.
âThat was...amazing!!â He yelled, his sudden outburst startling you, before laughing at his reaction.
âOh, yeah? Does that mean I can drive your cars more often?â
He turned to face you, giving you his sweetest smile.
âAbsolutely not.â
âWhat?! Why?â You protested.
âY/N, this is a limited edition Herarri.â
âSae, câmon. Youâve got to open up the engine every now and the-â
You stopped mid-sentence when you noticed a set of headlights pop up behind you. Saeyoung looked at you curiously, waiting for you to finish. He turned around in his seat to look out the back window when he noticed that you kept looking in the rear view. Then, flashing lights.
âShit! I was sure I lost them.â You hissed, quickly stepping on the gas. âHow did they find us?âÂ
âNow what?â Saeyoung asked, turning back around in his seat.
âWe lose them for real.â
The speedometer slowly kept climbing, reaching the triple digits. You flew down the straight stretch of highway, the flashing lights behind you barely keeping up with your speed.
âSae?â
âYeah?â
âIâm sorry for what Iâm about to do.â
âHuh? What do you mean? Y/N?â
Getting off the road and laying low was your best option right now. Home wasnât too far from your current location, and in order to make it there with enough time to hide the car in the garage and throw them off the trail, you couldnât compromise your speed.
You pressed harder on the gas pedal, the arm on the speedometer rising rapidly.
âY/N?â By his tone, you could tell Saeyoung was getting nervous, but you didnât let up.
âRemember the turns up here? Y/N?â
The lights behind you were getting further and further away. You were losing them. You were going to make it.
You were quickly approaching the turns he had mentioned, the ones right before the house. Almost there.
âHang on!â You instructed right before the first turn.
âY/N! No, no, no, no!â
The car beautifully drifted around the turn, losing the cops that more much, and Saeyoung losing his mind.
You went around the second turn with ease as well, the back tires losing traction, spinning freely. It was all so smooth, even at these high speeds.
You straightened out after coming out of the last turn, cops unable to catch up. The house was only about a few blocks away, as fast as you were going, youâd be there in no time.
Using his phone once you got in range, Saeyoung had the garage door open, awaiting your arrival.Â
You checked the rear view one last time, making sure they still hadnât caught up. You were in the clear.
You screeched to a stop in the garage, quickly parking and bailing from the car. Saeyoung quickly slapped the button on the wall to shut the garage door while you turned off the lights.
The two of you quickly went inside, going right to Saeyoungâs computer. He pulled up the live security feed all around the perimeter. You watched the cops drive past the front of the house on the monitor. After a few minutes of no activity, Saeyoung decided the coast was clear. You let out a heavy sigh.
âY/N..â Saeyoung said, voice quiet. His back was to you, still facing the monitors.
âY-yeah?â You replied sheepishly.
You were in trouble. Big trouble.
âWhat you did... that was..â
âIâm sorry! I swear I wonât ev-â You started to apologize profusely before he cut you off.
âAwesome!!â He yelled, turning to face you, eyes wide with excitement.
âIâm sorry, what?â Surely you hadnât heard him right.Â
âIt was like we were in an action movie! It was incredible!â
âYou do realize that your last job was as a secret agent, right? But, you think my driving was like an action movie?â You were so confused.
âOh yeah! I mean, I can drive too, donât get me wrong. I just never expected something like that from you.â
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â You asked, crossing your arms over your chest.
âIt means that my amazing, talented, beautiful girlfriend kept a truly awesome secret from me! Not fair, by the way.â He dramatically pooched out his bottom lip.
âIâm sorry I didnât tell you Sae, itâs just that my family could get in trouble..âÂ
âItâs okay, I understand. But..â He trailed off.
âBut?â
âWell, after taking my most cherished and most expensive baby out drifting, sheâs going to need some pampering.â He sounded serious, but the face he was making didnât match. He was up to something for sure.
âOkay..? No problem. I am a mechanic, after all.â
âThen itâs a deal.â He said with a smirk. He promptly scooped you up and threw you over his shoulder.
âAh! Saeyoung, what the hell?â You screeched, making him laugh.
âWhat? Iâm paying up front. And I must say, Iâm looking forward to doing business with you.â He said with a smirk, carting you off to to the bedroom, both of you giggling the whole way.

Words: 2k
Warnings: Swearing, Mentions of Cheating, angry Spencer
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Female!Reader (Itâs happening fuckers.)
A/N: I donât really have anything to say, except go nuts. I almost screamed writing this.
~~~~~
Eavesdropping isn't really my thing.
I find it impersonal, and kind of bitchy.
I mean, you're basically listening on someone else's conversation, snooping on drama that doesn't concern you.
Only, this kind of does concern me.
Since, you know, if it weren't for me, Spencer and Heather wouldn't be huddled in a conference room, arguing about their impending divorceÂ
I should feel worse about it than I do.
But I don't.
Spencer is broken.
She ruined him.
And trust me, I know because I'm the one who he's been coming to.
The whole thing sort of forced us back together, but if I'm being honest, I didn't really fight it. Like, at all.
Again I should feel bad, about how selfish it is to take pride in the fact that a man who's going through a divorce finds solace in my arms.
But you know what?
I really don't give a shit anymore.
I've spent the past almost three years doing everything to appear nice and selfless and it led me down a road that almost killed me.
So fuck it.
I exposed her cheating ass, punched her in her stupid face, fell asleep with her husband while laying on my couch and now I'm listening in as he serves her the divorce papers.
I'm not even trying to be subtle about it, and the team isn't being subtle about finding my snooping funny.
JJ passed and asked for an update, Derek just chuckled, and ruffled my hair, Hotch closed his blinds so he can have plausible deniability and the rest of them just smile as they watch.
I do have a back up plan though, just in case.
I hold a file in my hand that I can open and pretend to be reading as I walk in to get Spencer's opinion. Or something.
Right now though, I'm leaning against the door frame, listening and watching through the sliver of a crack that the door is open from when Heather closed it.
Heather sits with her back towards me, her hands folded in her lap, the papers and a pen sitting on the table in front of her, while Spencer stands, stoned face in front of her, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Sign the papers, Heather."
I can hear her sniffle, and she shakes her head. "No. I love you, we can make this work."
â'Weâ aren't doing anything. 'We' are getting a divorce because 'you' cheated on 'me' for almost our entire marriage. Sign the papers."
He was assertive, the pain and anger evident in his voice as he points to the packet on the table.
I'm not gonna lie, it's kinda hot.
"It's only been six months. What do you want me to do? It was a mistake, a stupid mistake." She's actively crying now, and she stands, making her way over to him, wrapping her hands around one of his biceps.
He stares down at her.
"I love you, Spence."
Hey bitch, that's my nickname for him, get your own. Wait no, I take that back. You can just fuck right off, how's that?
One of her hands comes up to cup his cheek, and anger boils in my stomach.
He uncrosses his arms, and brings a hand up to cover hers, and I hold my breath.
He wraps his fingers around her wrist, pulling it from his face while he pulls her hand from his bicep with his other hand.
He holds both of her wrists in his hands, pushing her away from him.
"That's not love."
Haha. Bitch.
"And it wasn't a mistake. You kept going back to him. Over and over again, instead of dealing with your problems and talking to me. Now," he turns her, and pushes her towards the table. The way she falls forward, stumbling into it makes it look like he shoved her harder than he did.
"Sign the fucking papers."
She grabs the pen, crocodile tears streaming down her face.Â
Her look goes from pleading, to furious in a second.
"You're gonna run back to her, aren't you?" She scoffs, straightening up. "How do I know you didn't cheat on me first?"
He leans in close to her, brushing hair behind her ear.
I almost fall into the room, leaning in so close to make sure I can hear what he says, my heart pounding.
"What or who I do, is no longer any of your business. Now I'm not going to ask again. Sign the papers, or I will gladly get my lawyer and make your life a living hell."
She's no longer crying, but the annoyance is radiating off of her.
She's pissed.
She huffs, leaning forward, and signs her name. She flips through, repeating the action until she's done.
She tosses the pen onto the table.Â
"You're gonna regret this. I'm the best thing that's ever happened to you."
He actually laughs, and I want to applaud him.
"Yeah, sure you are. I want your stuff out by this weekend."
She grabs her purse off the table, walking towards the door at a quick pace.
Shit shit shit shit shit shit.
I barely have time to open my file and take a few steps back to make it seem like I was walking up before she's opening the door, almost running into me in the process.
Her eyes meet mine, and I can't help the smirk spread across my face.
She glares, her hand coming up to her still bandaged nose, before shoving past me.
I watch her walk to the end of the hall before turning back to the room, where Spencer now stands with his hands in his packets.
I hold up the file, ready to start my spiel, but he starts talking before I can get the chance.
âI could see you.â
My mouth falls open and he smiles.
How the fuckâŚ
âI could also smell your perfume.â He looks down at the papers, starting to flip through them to double check that she signed everything.
He could smell my perfume?
I walk into the room, closing the door fully behind me.
Wouldnât want anyone to listen in now would we?
âHow do you know itâs mine?â I place the file on the table, as he closes the packet.
He looks up at me, and my knees turn to jello.
âBecause I smell it on your skin every time we hug.â
Butterflies erupt in my stomach, but he keeps talking.
âSmells like home to me.â He runs a hand through his hair, shifting from one foot to the next, now looking down at the table instead of me. âYouâre home to me.â
Youâre killing me, smalls.
I walk over to where heâs standing, and open my arms.Â
I watch as his shoulders deflate as he sighs, walking forward and wrapping his arms around my waist.Â
My arms slink around his neck, and I now understand how he can smell it. His nose is pressed to the crook of my neck, right where I put it in the morning.
âYouâre my home too.â I whisper, turning my head, and inhaling the scent of his hair. Itâs such a uniquely Spencer scent. I wish I could bottle it, make a candle out of it so that I can smell him whenever I want.
We break after a few minutes, and I trail my hands down his arm.
He entangles his fingers of one hand into my own.
âYou okay?â
He sighs, looking down at our hands as he plays with my fingers. âI will be.â
He sits on the edge of the table, and I follow suit, being sure not to break the link our hands have created.
âIf I hadnât seen you, if you hadnât been there watching, Iâm afraid of what I might have done.â He swallows, and his eyes wonât meet my own. âIt scared me.â
He finally looks up, and a small fire is lit behind those hazel eyes of his.Â
âIt scared me, because for a moment, I wanted to hurt her. She has made me so, angry, sheâs made me feel so fucking stupid and all I wanted to do was make her feel that too.â
I fully grab his hand, the absence of his ring pressing against my palm.
âI know that feeling. But, as much as you wanted to, I donât think you would have. Youâve got too much of a good conscience to do something like that.â
I feel him squeeze my hand.Â
âHowever, I am more than willing, so you tell me what you want me to do and Iâll do it.â
That got him to laugh, and he shakes his head at me. He becomes quiet quicker than Iâd like.Â
âYou have too much faith in me.â
âHey,â I reach up and grab his chin with my free hand, forcing him to look at me. âI have the perfect amount of faith in you, Dr. Spencer Reid. Youâre a good man, no, a great man, through and through. I guarantee you that you are the best thing that has ever or will ever happen to her. If she doesnât realize that, well, thatâs her loss. Not yours.â
I swipe some hair out of his face, and his eyes bore down into mine.Â
Something about the look on his face makes my heart start to race.Â
It resembles what I assumed I looked like that day in the restaurant, only he also looks like heâs about to cry.
My face scrunches in confusion. âAre you okay, Spence?â
âGod, I love you.â
His hands are on either side of my face and his lips are on mine.
His lips are on mine.Â
Heâs kissing me.
Spencer Reid, the man whom I have been in love with for the past ten fucking years is kissing me.
Kiss him back, you dumb bitch!
My hands immediately go to his chest, bunching the fabric of his shirt in my fists, pulling him as close as possible to me.
I have dreamt about this moment.
Since the day I met him, I have dreamt about what kissing him would feel like.Â
And now that itâs here, I can safely say, that my dreams donât compare to the real thing.
His lips are soft and they lead in such a way that doesnât make it feel like heâs doing all the work.Â
Itâs the perfect amount of push, the perfect amount of pull.
Kissing him is perfect.
But then he breaks it, as if remembering where he was, and the moments that had led up to it.Â
He looks utterly terrified, like he just ruined the one thing he had left.
We're both breathless for a moment, and then he speaks.
âIâm sorry.â
Before I can react, he picks up the packet of paper and all but runs out of the door.Â
I come to my senses quick enough to go after him, following him out into the bullpen.Â
âSpencer!â I stop, out of breath, and confused as hell.
He exits through the glass doors, his hands grabbing fistfuls of his hair.
âHey hey hey, whatâs going on? Did something happen?â JJ walks up, eyes looking at the space that Spencer had occupied before turning to look at me. âSeriously, you look like youâre about to cry. What happened?â
My fingers float over my lips, still warm from the energy of the kiss.Â
âHe kissed me.â Itâs barely above a whisper, like if I say it louder than that, itâll cease to exist.
âHe did? Why did he run then?â
âI donât know.âÂ
The kiss isnât what's confusing me at the moment though, oh no.Â
Whatâs making it hard to breath right, let alone think, was the statement he whispered right before he kissed me.
A statement I never even thought I would hear him say.
God, I love you.
I must be hearing things. That canât be what he said. He told me himself, that night on the balcony, he doesnât love me.
No.
I may not have a memory like his, but I could never forget something like that.
He loves me.Â
He loves me.
Spencer Reid loves me.
Hi! I saw that you might be interested in writing fics about Sigyn x Loki and itâs totally fine if you donât want to do this because it is a little angsty and doesnât really fit your description of what she was doing during Thor but could you maybe write something where Sigyn dies somehow a little before the events of Thor happened and Sigynâd death was what lead Loki to do New York. And maybe he was pardoned and joined the avengers and they notice that Loki wears a ring and they start getting really curious. Maybe they ask him or Thor about the ring and find out about Sigyn. I know it doesnât really fit what your version of Sigyn was doing during Thor but I would really like to see how you write this.
A/N: Youâre right, this isnât how I picture Sigyn in the MCU. I want her to be a more active character and really donât like fridging my ladies if I can help it. That all being said, itâs a fun thought experiment. Consider this just an AU where Sigyn dies.
Also, this kinda turned into a thing, so enjoy!
Word Count: 3.3K
The transition was gradual, to say the least. Nobody really trusted Loki, apart form Thor. But then again, Thor would trust a rabid dog not to bite him if it asked nicely enough.
He had vouched for his brotherâs changed ways and Loki himself hadnât done anything directly to contradict Thorâs word. Plus, it was hard for them to deny how he had come to the rescue on their behalf and the world at large.
Still, there was an unspoken understanding to stay out of each otherâs way. Only occasionally did Loki interact with the rest of the team outside of missions and even then it was mildly antagonistic, like a little kid looking for attention from their siblings.
Eventually, it just got comfortable, for lack of a better word. Â Theyâre werenât friends, but they werenât enemies either and that seemed to be enough.
So perhaps it wasnât a surprise it took them almost six months to notice the ring.
Natasha was the first to catch it.
She stood on the edge of the mat, watching Loki spar with his brother.Â
It was just a casual observation. Â She spent most of the match counting how many times one of them missed a weak spot of the other. Finally, Loki took the advantage and managed to disarm his brother, but not before something fell out of his shirt; a silver chain with a solitary gold ring dangling from the end of it.
Natasha frowned, her eyes focusing on the tiny object. It was just a simple band, no jewels or markings from what she could see. The only thing which struck her as odd was the size. Â It was much too small for the likes of Loki.
Her eyes darted to the man in question, who stared back at her with a guarded expression.
Without a word he helped his brother to his feet, and tucked the necklace away.
He wasnât telling and she wasnât asking.
The next was Steve.
He couldnât sleep, which wasnât so unusual. Â Even before he went into the ice he wasnât much of a sleeper. Â The scientist who worked on him said it had something to do with the serum. He just didnât require as much sleep as the average person.
On nights like these he found himself wandering, allowing his thoughts to shuffle lightly in and out as he feet carried him where they liked. It therefor came as a surprise when he noticed one of the lights in the kitchen turned on and a single figure sitting at the island.
Steve stayed in the shadows, watching with suspicion and curiosity.
Loki did not seem to know he was there. Â A long forgotten mug of something sat on the surface beside him. Â His eyes were only for the ring between his fingers.
Steve stiffened waiting for something, anything to happen. Â Knowing Loki it was a magic ring of some kind. Â Perhaps he was working out a kind of spell or curse. Â But, the longer Steve waited, the more he realized nothing was going to happen.
His eyes then turned away from the ring at to the man holding them. Â His heart twisted.
Sorrow permeated Lokiâs features, and the resignation that it was all there would ever be.
Steve knew that look. Â He had worn it often enough on sleepless nights.
âDo you require something, Captain?â Loki said, turning his head up to meet his gaze.
Steve immediately stiffened, automatically preparing himself for a fight.
âNo, just getting some air. What are you doing up?â
âThe same as you,â he said, smoothly. Â âJust getting some air.â
It was obvious neither bought what the other was selling, but it was also obvious neither were in a position to ask any further questions.
âIâll leave you to it then.â He turned to leave, but found himself pausing before he could stop himself. Â The familiar ache was back in his gut. Â It was what had woken him up and it was back with a vengeance, recognizing itâs own pain in another.
âIâm sorry,â he said, before he could stop himself.
Lokiâs gaze darkened, but still his grip on the ring remained ever gentle. Â âIâm sure I donât know what you mean.â
Steve shook his head. âNo, I think you do. Â And Iâm sorry.â
The other man remained silence, but gave a small nod.
Steve took it as his leave to go and walked away. Â It wasnât his place to ask and so he wouldnât.
It was Clint who finally got it out of him.
He never trusted Loki, for obvious reasons. Â The rest of the team might have been able to buy the changed man act, but none of them had had their mind permanently screwed with like his had. He played nice while on missions, but was soon as they were off the Quinjet, he kept as far away from Loki as possible.
So, when Natasha told him about the ring, he was more than a little suspicious.
There had to be something about the ring. Â It had to be a talisman Loki could use to trick them. Â Maybe it turned him invisible or he used in for illusions or whatever magic crap he called it.
Clint started to keep his eye out.
Once he was looking for it, it was obvious Loki took it wherever they went. Â It was always tucked away, buried under clothes and armor. Â Even when they were back at the compound, Loki never let it leave his body.
Once in a while, heâd catch Loki running the metal between his fingers in thought, followed almost always by some sort of interjection about whatever mission was at hand and how to improve it.
He had to begrudgingly agree that most of Loki's suggestions were decent ones. Â Maybe the ring gave him a type of insight; seeing into the future perhaps?Â
Either way, his suspicion was growing stronger everyday. Â There had to be someway to figure out what it was.Â
It took about a month for him to get his chance.
Loki always kept the ring on while he was around other people; however, he wasnât so careful while he was alone. Through some carefully place cameras, Clint discovered he did slip it off before going to sleep and whenever he went into the shower.Â
Sneaking in when he was sleeping was out. Â Clint observed easily enough the man was a light sleeper. Â Even with all his training, he doubt he could come up with a decent excuse if he got caught, which only left one other option.
He waited until the end of a particularly grueling mission. Â Everybody was exhausted and a hot shower seemed like heaven, just the opportunity he needed.Â
Clint followed Loki to his room. Â He didnât enter until he heard the water running. Â After that, it was easy enough. Â In a flash he was in and out, holding the cool metal between his fingers and booking it to the lab.
A part of him felt childish. It was more like stealing a few bucks out of his brotherâs wallet, rather than a high stakeâs espionage to reveal a traitor. Â Desperate times, he guessed.Â
Just his luck, Tony and Bruce were already tinkering away when he burst in.
âHow quickly can you guys analyze this,â he said through panting breath.
The two scientist looked up in confusion.
âSomebody sell you a knock off ring?â Tony said, dryly.
Clint shook his head, not having time for jokes. Â âItâs Lokiâs.â
That got their attention.
âWhat does it do?â
âHowâd you get it?â
âI donât know and it doesnât matter. Â We have maybe ten minutes before he realizes itâs gone.â
Bruce shot Tony a skeptical look, but Tony ignored it.
âLetâs see it.â
Breathing a sigh of relief, Clint handed it over.
âIâll get a sample and see what itâs made out of. If thereâs anything not of Earth weâll find it. Â Bruce?â
Banner gave a reluctant sigh. Â âI can check for energy readings. Â If itâs anything like Thorâs hammer, something might turn up. Â But, I honestly not sure what Iâm looking for. You never said was Loki was using it for.â
Clint shrugged. Â âI donât know. Â I just know he wonât go anywhere without it and he keeps it out of sight as best he can. Â Nat only spotted it on accident and apparently he gave her this really weird look.â
âWeird how?â
âJust weird, like she saw something she shouldnât.â
âGood enough for me,â Tony said, already placing the ring under a microscope. âTen minutes you said?â
âEight now.â
âLetâs get to work.â
Two minutes in Tony discovered the ring was mostly gold. Â There were trace amounts copper and nickle, but only enough to keep the metal from being malleable. Â Really, it wasnât anything one wouldnât find at a local jewelry store.Â
Bruce meanwhile, found nothing. Â No radiation, no magnetic field, no anything to indicate it wasnât just a completely normal ring.
Clint ran his hand through his hair in agitation; they had three minutes at most.
âThere has to be something!â
âIâm telling you there isnât,â Bruce insisted.
âIt canât be, why else would he have it?â
âSentimental reasons? Maybe itâs his motherâs.â
Clint scoffed, but a nagging sense of doubt crept into his gut. âNo. Â You missed something. Â Tony?â
âNot much, just that itâs stronger than it should be.â
Clint perked up at this. âHow do you mean?â
âI mean there isnât a scratch on it. If it has the amount of gold the computer says it does it should have some kind of wear on it, but nothing. Â Itâs perfectly preserved.â
Clint turned to Bruce. Â âSee, thatâs weird right?â
Bruce rubbed his hand behind his neck. Â âIt is a little weird, but letâs not forget Loki isnât exactly a local.â
âYouâre defending him?â Tony accused.
âIâm not saying that. Â Iâm just saying we have to look at all the options.â
Clint opened his mouth to protest, when the doors slammed open behind him.Â
They were out of time.
âStark,â Loki snapped. âI want a look at those cameras youââ
He stopped, physically halting in his place as he eyes quickly shot to the ring on the table.
His expression remained cool, but Clint was just able to catch look of panic flash across his features.Â
âAh, there it is,â he said, smoothly. Â âIâll take that back now, if you donât mind.â
He made a move toward it, but Tony was faster.
âYou were looking for this,â he questioned.
Lokiâs eyes narrowed. Â âYes. Â I had misplaced it, but now that itâs found, I would like it back.â
âThis is yours then?â
âOf course itâs mine.â
Tony nodded, giving a âwhat do you know about thatâ expression.
Clint straightened. Â He could feel the tension rising between the two men. Â Something was going to happen, he just had to be ready for the signal.
He was so focused on the scene in front of him, he failed to notice Bruce sneak carefully out of the room.
âItâs an interesting ring,â Tony said. Â âSturdy.â
âIndeed,â Loki said. Â His mask was slipping, the frustration slowly melting it off his skin.
âIâm curious," Tony continued, "what exactly is so special about it? Iâve been running every test I can think of and nothingâs wrong with it. Â Absolutely nothing. Â Itâs literally, the most perfect ring Iâve ever seen.â He took a pause, casually glancing in Clintâs direction. Â âMight want to step back from that Barton, highly corrosive.â
Clint looked behind him to see a full beaker of bubbling liquid behind him. Â Holding back a smile, he instantly understood.
âThatâs all very well,â Loki said. âBut it does not stop it from being mine.â He held out his hand. Â âReturn it to me, now.â
Tony smirked. Â âThink fast.â
In a second, the ring was in the air, not towards Loki, but right for Clint.
He caught it mid-air, just in time for Loki to pivot towards him with murder in his eyes.
Clint didnât hesitate. Â Spinning around, he held the ring over the beaker silently daring the so called âgodâ to move.
Loki stayed in place, even as he vibrated with rage.
âCareful with that,â he warned, his voice sharp and cold as a knife.
âWhat is it, then?â Clint challenged.
âItâs a ring. Nothing more.â
âReally? Then I donât see what I canât justâŚâ The chain slipped between his fingers.
âDonât!â Loki snapped.
Clint caught it. Â The ring remained intact, swinging dangerously close to it's demise.
Loki visibly sighed in relief, but something in his eye gave Clint pause. Â It wasnât just anger or even fear, it was pain.
He pressed his lips together, his mind whirling with what it could possibly mean.
âWhy do you care about this?â Clint asked, again.
Lokiâs eyes never left the glinting metal, as he shook his head. Â âYou wouldnât believe me.â
âOh yeah?â
âYes. Â Clearly youâve already convinced yourself it serves some nefarious purpose. Â You will not accept anything short of that explanation.â
âGive me a better one then.â
Loki lip twisted. Â âI think not. Â You see Agent Barton, I believe itâs perfectly within my power to take my ring back from you. The only choice you have is whether you want to keep it or your hand.â
With a flick of his wrist, a knife appeared in each of his hands, glinting sharp and ready.
âWhat is going on?â Thorâs voice echoed in the small room.
On instinct Clint turned his eyes away from Loki.
It happened in an instant. The sting of the cut. The cool metal slipping between his fingers. Â A blast from the corner of the room. A brush of air. And a knife embedded in the wall behind, with the small chain dangling from the hilt.
Clint turned to see Loki thrown across the room. Â Tonyâs now armored arm was still raised, and ready for another attack.
Looking down at his own hand, Clint could see a trail of blood sliced across the back.
âWhat the hell?!â he snapped.
Loki struggled to his feet, leaning against the wall for support. Â His brother was at his side in an instant. Â Bruce stepped in the middle of it all, his arms spread wide.
âEverybody, calm down,â he said. Â âLetâs not make this a bigger mess than it already is.â
âYouâre seriously showing your belly, now?â Tony accused.
âTake it more like a warning growl,â Bruce countered.Â
The threat was obvious, making Tony visibly shocked. Â He backed down, lowering his arm.
Thor supported Loki, bringing him fully to his feet.
âIâll ask again, what is going on?â Thor said, will all the authority a prince of Asgard could muster.
âJust a little disagreement over stolen property,â Loki said, smoothly.Â
Thorâs eyes went to the necklace still swinging against the other wall. The anger on his features nearly matched Lokiâs.
âStark?â
âMe,â Barton interjected. Â âI wanted to know what Loki was hiding. Â From the length heâs willing to go to to get it back, it must be something.â
Thor shook his head. Â âDo you have any idea what you might have done?â
âNo, thatâs kind of the point,â Tony said. Â âWhat is it, the One Ring or something?â
âItâs a personal matter,â Loki said.
âNo good enough.â
âClint, drop it,â Bruce snapped.
âNo! What is it? What the hell can be so important that youâre willing to finally drop your changed man act to get it back?!â
Thor let out a long sigh. âBarton, you can notââ
âEnough, brother,â Loki cut in. âYou wanted a story Agent Barton? Iâll tell you one.
âOnce upon a time in a land far away, there lived a prince. Â Second born of his family, he grew accustomed to being looked over by others; his subject, his friends, even his father would easily pass him over."
"Does this have a point?" Clint interrupted.
Loki said nothing.Â
Clint's frown deepened, but it was obvious there was no other way he was going to get an answer out of the would be king. So, he kept his mouth shut, until Loki started again.
"The prince grew resentful, turning deeper and deeper into himself. It came to the point where nothing else existed, except the darkness. Â Until one day, he came upon a maiden practicing spells in a garden."
For the first time in Clint's memory, a soft smile came to Loki's lips.
âShe was beautiful and intelligent, and the prince offered to teach the maiden what he knew. Â She asked what he wanted in exchange, and the only answer he could give, was her company. And so they practiced and talked, and little by little the darkness around the prince began to fade. He was still second to many, but their opinions no longer mattered. Â In the eyes of the maiden, he found light.â
He shook his head.  âThe prince was never sure what the maiden saw in him, but it was enough for her to agree to marry him. He then presented her with a ring.  An ordinary ring to some, far too simple for a soon to be princess, but in it held a spell.  The ring would never fade or tarnish, as long as his love for her survived.â
He blinked, his expression darkening. Â âBut love cannot protect one from death. Â Long after they were married, but not nearly long enough, a plague tore through the kingdom. Â It infested every corner from the lowest commoner to highest lord, until finally, it arrived at the palace gates. Â The princeâs eldest brother, his mother, and wife all caught the disease. After weeks of uncertainty, it was determined they would pull through, save for one. The maiden, his light, died in his arms while they slept."
Loki paused, swallowing down the emotion clearly rising in his throat.
âThe darkness returned with a vengeance, to which the prince succumbed. Â He turned against his brother, his father, and everyone else he blamed for his failings. Slowly but surely, he pushed them all away until he found himself falling to an abyss, completely and utterly alone.
"But, that was not the end of the princeâs story. Â For you see, the prince was not as alone was he thought. Â Another found him, and offered him something he had no had in years; hope.
"He told the prince he sought six stones, that when combined would bend the universe to his will, including bringing back what was long dead."
Loki's eyes grew even more distant, his hand going to his chest, instinctively reaching for a familiar chain.
"He promised the prince he could bring back his light. Â All the prince had to do was conquer a single planet. A simple task, the prince thought. Â And so he went, ready to burn a world for the chance to see his love again.â
A sardonic smile spread across his face. Â âBut the prince failed and in his failure, he realized while he might be willing to pay such a price for his love, she would not feel the same. Â And so he set to make amends, all the while keeping a symbol of their love close to his heart as a reminder of the light he must always remember is there.â
Loki paused, looking up to his captivated audience. In a room full of people compelled to give the have word, not a sound was uttered.
Maintaining the silence, he walked passed all of them to where his heart hung. With a small tug, he pulled the knife from the wall, and lay the necklace gently in his open palm.
âDoes that answer your questions, Agent Barton?â he asked, taking a moment to run his finger over the flawless gold.
Clint blinked, unsure of what to really say. Â He really only had one question left to ask.
âWhat was her name?â
Loki glanced at him, and for the first time Clint saw him, not as a would be god, but as a man, tired and filled with regret.
âSigyn.â
When Someone Flirts with You
AN: Hiya friends! These are just little hcs of what the BNHA bois would do when someone flirts with you.
Includes: Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugou, Shoto Todoroki, Eijirou Kirishima, Denki Kaminari, Hitoshi Shinsou, Tamaki Amajiki, and Mirio Togata
Come one, come all! See what happens when someone flirts with you in front of your men!
Tags: @peachy-yabbayâ @sweetlikepeppermintsâ @shiggi-trashâ @happynoodleâ @sunnieskies02â @boku-no-dumbassâ @neon-tries-writingâ @liliesoftherainmainâ @beththedemonhunterâ
Izukuâs nice. Heâs not very confrontational and he prefers to talk things out. So heâll opt to talk to the person hitting on you.
Usually heâll explain that youâre taken and the person is making you upset.
Of course, 9 times out of 10, it doesnât work. People usually respond with something along the lines of âRun along and let a real man/woman handle thisâ.
Izuku doesnât appreciate that. Itâs almost like a switch, he goes from this adorable bean bun to a very protective and unshakable hero. Izuku likes to keep away from violence, though, so heâll threaten them, instead. Theyâre not empty threats by any means, but it works most of the time.
âYouâre making them uncomfortable. Leave.â
Those words with a very scary glare and strict tone works about 7-8 times outta 10. The others?
Heâs breaking bones and theyâre not gonna be his.
Lmao
Katsuki isnât a helicopter boyfriend so when stuff like this happens, he stays back. Katsuki pays attention to your body language. A lot.
The second you look uncomfortable, heâs on high alert. Heâll stare at the person bothering you, but heâll stay back. If youâre dating him, it means you can kick ass. However, if itâs too much, just look to him for help, and heâs jumping in to help.
Itâs Suki, so heâll immediately start yelling with his explosions cackling in his palms.
âYou get the hell away from them or Iâll kill you!â
9/10 it works.
There are VERY rare occasions when it doesnât work. Heâs loud, booming voice and glare is TERRIFYING. But there are people that arenât deterred by it. When they donât?
Katsukiâs not an idiot- he seems like heâs just a hotheaded dumbass. He knows how to fight and he WILL wipe the floor with anyone who messes with you. Katsukiâs not lying- well he is, heâs not killing anyone- but heâll beat the hell outta them.
Heâs a mix of Bakugou and Midoriya. Heâll often wait out any incidents. You can handle yourself and so heâll just stand to the side and let you do you.
Usually, itâs fine. But for the people who really get to you, all you need to do is look at him. Shotoâs at your side within seconds.
He doesnât yell like Bakugou. Heâs never had to yell because his glares are colder than his ice. He also has an extremely stern tone and itâs borderline murderous.
âYou should leave them alone. Your attempts are working and they donât like it. Or you.â
50/50 it works. If it doesnât?Â
Shoto has frozen the person before. He gives ONE warning. Only one. After that, heâs freezing. Heâll even use his fire if need be. People know his face and usually donât challenge him. But thereâs always that one idiot.
âFreezer burn it is.âÂ
Heâs a cheerful, laid-back guy so heâs pretty chill about it. If someoneâs bothering you, heâll just come up and calmly tell them to leave.
âHey, look. Youâre making them uncomfortable. Please leave them alone.â Heâs usually got a smile and heâs pretty cheerful about it.
2/10. People brush him off. Their funeral.
âHey. They donât like it. Leave them alone.â
4-5/10.
Red Riot doesnât like it when someone bothers you.
Heâll often activate his quirk and grab the person, physically dragging them away from you. If they try to hit him, nothing happens. Heâll fight back if he has to.
10/10 heâs winning.
Heâs got a bit of a weird tactic. Usually, when someoneâs flirting with you, heâll join them! Usually, the person is caught off guard and tries to get rid of him.
âOh? Iâm just flirting with my partner.âÂ
It sounds dumb but 5/10 it works. People just huff or apologize and leave. The other half? They insult him and keep going. Denki doesnât take it to heart.
Usually, heâll swing his arm around the offender and pull them in.
âMy sunshine nugget doesnât like you, canât you tell?â Denki normally has a smile, but the tone- itâs that fake, cheerful voice. It sends shivers down your spine.
Usually works 8/10 times. Denki isnât scared of confrontation. For the other two? Heâll bring his other hand in front of them as the electricity dances in his hand.
âGet the fuck away from them or Iâll cook you.â Again, same smile and cheerful tone.
10/10. Theyâre GONE.
Ok. This one is just too easy. People donât really know Hitoshi, so theyâll always respond. There are rare occasions where theyâll just ignore him. Hitoshi doesnât like that.
âYou should leave them alone. I donât think your attempts are working.â They roll their eyes and pretend heâs not even there. So what does Hitoshi do?
Heâll stand in between you two and smile at the offender. âHey, why donât you ask me out on a date, instead?â 10/10 they respond.Â
âMove-â oops.
âLeave. And donât you dare ever talk to my kitty again.âÂ
There have been times people have recognized Hitoshi, especially now that heâs a growing hero. They often taunt and insult him, completely forgetting Hitoshi no longer relies on his quirk.
Hitoshiâs pretty good with his comebacks. Theyâll often get upset enough to start the fight and well⌠they donât really stand a chance.Â
Aizawa taught him well.
UmmâŚ. ok.
Tamaki HATES confrontation. He hates going out and prefers to stay at home to avoid stuff like this. Youâre a gorgeous person and people see it all the time, even though you donât. Tamaki doesnât think youâll just up and leave him, never. Heâs just scared he wonât be able to defend you when you need it.
Usually, heâll come up and suggest they leave. âY-you should le-leave. They donât l-like you.â
0/10. Never works and thatâs the worst part about it. Tamakiâs an amazing hero and heâs mastered his quirk, he just doesn't like applying it to situations that donât require it. Sadly, situations like this always require it. He doesnât want to be violent⌠they just force his hand.
People normally laugh at him and some have even shoved him away. Heâs fine with all of that and will even attempt to tell them to leave again. But the SECOND someone touches you, no more Tamaki.
Suneater has entered the ring.Â
âYou leave my bunny alone or else.â No stuttering, no hesitation, no fear. Heâll glare them down and growl. However, they donât even have the chance to back off. They get a whole ass second before Tamaki uses his tentacles and practically throws them out of the establishment.
10/10 would recommend.
Even sunshine boy has his limits.
Heâs more like Kirishima and Kaminari. Heâs pretty chill and doesnât start yelling or glaring like Bakugou or Todoroki.
âHey now! I donât think my sunshine likes you using those words. I think you should leave.â With that big, bright smile and confidence. Again it kinda works, 4/10 times. Usually, people roll their eyes or even shove him away. Mirio usually brushes it off and doesnât care too much for it. Heâll just move right back to where he was standing and try again.
âIâm trying to be nice here. You should really listen and back off.â
âDude, get the hell outta here.â Mirio, much like Hitoshi, likes to taunt people. He wants them to get angry and attack him first, so he can fight back. Heâll never start a fight on his own, but he definitely doesnât mind finishing it.
If they try to hit Mirio, heâll just permeate through them and take them down within seconds.
After that, he just stands up like nothing happened, places his arm around your shoulder, and smiles down at the offender.
âTold you.â
HELLO BESTIE I am currently having Ralbert Brainrot and you're the best person go come to for this, obviously,, so PLEASE share! I would like to hear about ufc albert or youtuber race, or dancing partners!! I love them smm
HI YES HELLO USING THIS AS AN EXCUSE TO WRITE UFC FIGHTER AL PART 2 THANKS BABES
i just witnessed a literal crime and iâm Feeling The Rage (boxing judges at mma events can catch these hands) so here is. my brain on anger.
also the first half of this is pretty fight-talk heavy but the second half is more al/ralbert central so message me/send me an ask if i donât explain something well enough <3
here is the ask i sent to @we-are-inevitable (thanks jac iâm in love with you mwah) and here is part 1 for this au if you havenât read that one yet !!
also,,,,, this is fairly obvious. but trigger warning for violence/physical fighting, as well as blood. (itâs a rough gig yâall fjdhdb) oh and swearing but thatâs pretty much just me LMAO
here i am, bein mad and writing ralbert. therapy time with chandler ig
OK SO
this is after his debut. duh. continuation
i think heâs probably 5 fights in with 5 wins. heâs been running people through, especially with four full camps after a short notice start, and heâs never even seen a decision in the ufc
letâs just say the hype train is moving FAST and itâs moving LOUD
everyone has to have those people that watch their fights just to see them lose, on top of the majority male fan base that have to have a little bit of toxic masculinity and homophobia in there
so thereâs A LOT of people that are waiting for him and his hype train to get derailed. but thereâs also a fair amount of fans, so you win some you lose some (the way i would die to see this be a real fighter pls)
now albertâs not always the most confident guy, and heâs never been cocky, but none of this shit gets to him. heâs got his coaches, heâs got his friends and heâs got race behind him. he knows heâs got the skills, and heâs got his support system, so who gives a shit what a bunch of cowards on the internet have to say?
and then they put him against someone known for his grappling and stamina. and the âitâs a wrap for dasilva!â bandwagon starts. it happens every time a rising striker and early knockout artist fights a well known grappler with any semblance of later round power (even if al has a background in wrestling and has gone 5 rounds and won outside of the ufc. itâs a bandwagon for a reason)
and itâs not Upsetting, itâs not really getting into his head in any way thatâll make him do worse, but itâs kinda pissing him off. which is bad for his opponent
the last person on earth you want to be fighting is an annoyed albert dasilva who thinks he has something to prove
he works his ass off in camp, and the press tour is a self-assured albert vs. a loudmouth who thinks heâs hot shit cause a few people on twitter think heâll sweep
and, to be completely honest? itâs starting to look that way 2 rounds in.
itâs a 5 round fight, co-main event on a big card, and so far all alâs opponent has done is pinned him to the cage and kept him there. a few strikes worth anything - at least enough make alâs cheek bleed, no takedowns, which would at least give him some activity, and so submission attempts, so he canât even gain any ground that way. heâs just- Stuck. and if THIS is how he loses, heâs gonna be pissed
the bell for the second round sounds, and you can actually see alâs chest heaving on camera as he walks to his corner - not because heâs tired or out of breath, but because heâs MAD, and fuck if heâs not going to do something about it
not only that, but he can not only see race and jack standing up by the cage - plus raceâs expression, which is slightly annoyed and super anxious, which hurts his chest to think about - but he can hear them too
jack is yelling profanities, as per usual. he doesnât that regardless of how the fight is going, but itâs less encouraging when youâre the one losing.
race though,,,, race isnât really yelling, heâs more talking to himself than anything, but heâs close enough to cage and al knows him well enough to figure out what heâs saying. and if the muttered almost-prayers while he paces back and forth werenât enough, the shiny gold engagement ring on raceâs hand definitely is
round 3,,,, letâs just say it goes a little differently than the first 2 had gone.
he opens with a spinning back kick, of all fucking things, and that truly sets the pace
heâs the taller guy by a few inches, like usual, which makes his arms longer. the only reason crushing his against the cage worked is cause the guy heâs fighting cuts weight like a wrestler, so heâs easily got 20 pounds on albert come fight night
but once he finds his rhythm and starts throwing, he starts connecting too. he manages to stay out of range of his opponent and stay his comfortable distance to start t-ing off
this isnât a one punch power ending. this isnât a beautiful head kick, or a giant knee, or even just a clean right hook.
this is albert, whoâs arms are starting to feel the 3rd round a little bit, hitting this guy with everything he has cause he refuses to lose this fight.
i mean- everyone watched him get up at the start of the round with a set jaw and a scary determined glint in his eye. heâs not a person you fuck with, and heâs definitely not a person you publicly ridicule before being locked in a cage to fight with
the guy heâs fighting is absolutely battered, but he manages to survive until round 4. the first of the championship rounds, something alâs never seen in a ufc fight before, and it feels like the arena is holding its breath
so when al comes out and does the same thing as round 3 to better results - fight ending results - everyoneâs a little shocked, honestly
the commentary teamâs in disbelief, cause albert is NOT a slow starter, regardless of what this fight would tell you, and the fact he managed a win at all, let alone such a phenomenal one, is fucking astounding
he gets his hand raised, obviously, but the really interesting part is the post fight interview
âalbert, man, what changed between round 2 and 3? what second gear did you find?â
âbro, i justâ it was pissing me off, honestly. i donât come in here to get pinned down for 25 minutes. and, yâknow, my team gave me good advice. i had all the pieces, straight from the jump, someone just had to force me to put them in placeâŚâ
and then he looks over at race, who gives al one of those half grin, half smirks and winks at him, and al just chuckles to himself and finishes answering the question
âthe thing that really forced my hand is race. i wonât get cheesy on you, but watching someone who loves and supports you through everything panic cause heâs scared for you - itâs a big motivator. everyone would figure out a lot more of my motivations if they went and watched raceâs expressions back instead of whatever the hell iâm doing in here. heâs always been the brains, iâm just the brawn.â
and thatâs a better answer than anyone was expecting, plus heâs just had the fight of a lifetime thatâs probably earned him a title shot, so heâs done soon after that and gets to have his little in-cage celebration
he hugs his team and jack, who razzes him a little bit as per usual, and makes some dumb quip about going over tapes later like heâs a coach. and then comes race
he hugs him, all tender and cute and also very sweaty cause Thatâs How It Works, and the cameraâs focused on him, so they can tell theyâre whispering back and forth. but thereâs no mics on them, so whatâs said is missed entirely on the audience, but itâs their usual cheesy, in love mess
âcongrats, baby. iâm proud of you.â
âoh please. it was 90% you anyway. i meant what i said, it wasnât just for the cameras.â
âi know that. iâm gonna have to get you back somehow for telling everyone to go back and watch my awful anxious expression. iâll think of something.â
âiâm sure you will, sweetheart.â
and then al does that awful, adorable lil nose bump thing, and then kisses race. and then jack covers his eyes and whines until they stop like the actual 12 year old boy he is inside
and then they leave the octagon, race and al holding hands, and al throws his arm over jackâs shoulder and shoves his head down and pushes him, cause even though he was just in a literal cage match heâs still a roughhousing teenager at heart
and heâs got interviews and press shit that separates him from his people, and heâs gotta slide that bulletproof mask back down over all the happy and in love shit heâs feeling so he can not smile like an idiot on camera constantly
but every once in awhile heâll catch jack giving him the finger and laugh before returning it below view of the camera
or heâll catch raceâs eye from where heâs standing behind all the studio lights and do a little wave under the camera and return the wink from earlier, and the unbothered fighter facade will crack a little bit
but heâs not completely convinced thatâs such a bad thing
GOD THIS POST IS SO MUCH LONGER THEN I MEANT IT TO BE IM SORRY
but Yeah. Them.
i love this au a helleva lot more than i should but thatâs Fine cause iâve got thoughts for days on it
Ectober Day 10: Ring -Â Heavy On The Heart, Light Upon The Head
Maddie worries over Danny plenty and heâs more than a little strange. But ghost royalty seems to be taking things a bit far. Yet somehow, it suits him.
Maddie knows somethingâs up with her son. Has been for a while. Two years at least. And she has a bad feeling ghosts have something to do with it.
He was stronger, bolder in personality and she knows his baggy clothing hides defined muscle. More muscle than either her or Jack have. She doesnât know exactly how that happened. But the muscle she could understand to a level, same with the scarring she occasionally spots. Ghosts had plagued this town for nearly four years now. And the school was a hot spot. Self-defence was a required class now and everyone frequently had to run or even possibly fight. Every single person was stronger, Danny just seemed more so than others. She could maybe pass it off as genetics from Jack; who had always had an easy time putting on muscle... and fat.
What concerned her more was the mental changes. The increased confidence and boldness was one thing, not strange in the slightest for a teen nearing adulthood. But it was more than that. He had this wise air about him. Not smart, but wise. Something she once felt off of her grandmother. To get that from her son was strange and wrong. Not bad, just wrong. And that air about him felt powerful too, and commanding. It was as if an army commander had just walked into the room half the time. And the way he would look at people, soft and protective. Like he really was a soldier coming upon a group of sweet innocent children. Even relaxing or lounging around, it still seemed like power thrummed under his skin. And talking to him often made her feel like he knew things she didnât and that he knew that she didnât know what he did. But it wasnât pompous. It was more like an adult protecting the innocent mind of a child. In Jackâs case, she could understand a little. Jack could be a little naive and oblivious. But her? Danny shouldnât be able to make her feel that way so easily, and clearly unintentionally.
It was strange. It was off. And it didnât make sense. Sometimes he didnât even seem to resemble the boy he used to be.
As for why she thought ghosts might have something to do with why? Well looking at him at the supper table... Itâs late October. The sun is setting. And the lights were broken this morning. Leaving the fading dark orange sunlight as the only thing lighting up the mess of noddles, her son, and her. Jack off fixing the lighting situation and Jazz off at Havard. And in this dark light, she notices that ring of his, the one heâs worn like itâs attached to him for the past year, is glowing. Itâs green and itâs glowing. Itâs faint, but itâs there. So thatâs why she thinks heâs gotten involved with something ghostly; and that itâs changed him. Because that ring is absolutely ghostly in origin.
The first thought that enters her head as she pauses, spoon halfway to her open mouth, is: could that be possessing him? Or allowing a ghost to? The second is: did he steal that from some ghost? Those thoughts should be in the opposite order, but theyâre not. Because somethingâs off with Danny.
Her eyes move from the ring to Danny, finishing the motions of putting the noodles in her mouth while he moves his left hand under the table. Obviously he noticed she noticed. Obviously he knew something was up with the ring and was hiding it. Obviously he didnât want her commenting on it or being suspicious of it. Was that something to be concerned over? Or suspicious of? Did that mean there was, in fact, something nefarious surrounding the ring or why he wears it? Sheâs unsure, and other than moving his hand out of her line of sight, he doesnât outwardly acknowledge her suspicions. He successfully made the motion look nonchalant. Normal. But she canât let that make her feel better or trick her into thinking he didnât actually notice her pause. Because she knows how good of a liar he is. How skilled of an actor he was. Could that be the doing of the ring? But that wouldnât quite make sense, heâs been changing, changed, for a while. Itâs just become more pronounced as of late.
She needs to think.
But in all honestly? Thinking hasnât been doing her much good. All sheâs done with Danny is think. Think on his changes. On if the ghost problem affected him. On if he really could ever become a hunter, take over FentonWorks. On a lot of things. And it had gotten her nowhere with him. It was like no matter how much she stared at the puzzle, she couldnât put it together. Like too many pieces were missing or damaged to make any sense of the whole. And how is she supposed to figure out what those missing pieces were if she couldnât even understand the whole? She couldnât. So maybe she should try something different. Though Jack was always the more vocal and bold one, she could do that too. And sure, she could ask Jack to talk to him, but he didnât put enough thought into things. Didnât notice the finer details. And with Danny, those finer details were everything.
Like how he was eating just slightly faster. Clearly wanting out of this situation before she decided to speak up or maybe noticed something else. Saw a different glimpse of the mystery that was her son. If he even was her son.
She tries not to follow him with her eyes suspiciously as he gets up to put away his dishes. Choosing to speak up just before he actually crosses the threshold to the living-room, âyour ring is glowingâ. No beating around the bush, give him as little to work with as possible. And if he keeps walking now it would not only be very rude but also effectively an act of running away. No way would his pride allow for that. Whether that pride was from plain old confidence or ghostly in nature.
As she hoped and planned he pauses, stilling for a second before turning his head back to her; body only turned slightly to her, hiding his entire left side from her view. âOh?â. Guess he was giving her as little to work with as possible too.
Maddie nods softly, better to not seem on the offensive, âyes it is. No the question is, why?â.
Heâs silent for a bit before, âno reason, Halloween knick-knacks like copying ghosts. Especially around hereâ, shrugging, âglow-sticks are pretty popular after allâ.
Maddie canât help sighing at that. She could throw in the towel and just leave it at that. Just accept the blatant lie. Stay ignorant. The look Dannyâs giving her is obviously encouraging her to do just that. Itâs the kind of look given to children when they ask where babies come from when theyâre honestly still too young. But with more... pity. Just the thing is, if she doesnât ask now. Doesnât grab the small thread thatâs unraveled from his tightly woven cover before he snips it off. Then sheâll never know. And not just about the ring specifically, but Danny as a whole.
If she ignores this now, sheâll have to write him off as a lost cause. And based on that look on his face and the fact that heâs still standing there, waiting on her. Tells her that he knows that too. So to her that leaves her with no choice. Heâs her son, or maybe was, and she wonât leave him behind. If this is some ghost possessing him or polluting him, then sheâll save him. And if itâs not, then sheâll go from there. âDanny, please. I know thatâs a lieâ.
Danny blinks at her, and he looks like he canât decide between a smile and a frown. He catches her completely off guard though, âyeah. Yeah it wasâ, and chuckles. Lifting up his left hand and looking down at the glowing ring before looking back to her, âIâm surprised it took you so long to noticeâ, chuckling some more.
If it wasnât for the clear humour behind his words sheâd almost feel offended. Her, a ghost hunter, not noticing something ghostly. That was absolutely embarrassing. But Danny didnât make it feel like she should be embarrassed about it. Sheâs oddly thankful over that. âIf I scanned that, would it have an ecto-fieldâ, thereâs no point framing that as a question. The answer was obvious to both of them honestly.
Danny looks around, rubs his neck, and gives an oddly charming lopsided grin. Chuckling, âheh. Caught me?â.
Maddie blinks at that. Just like that? That... that didnât even make sense. It usually took teeth-pulling to get Danny to be fully honest. And a ghost wouldnât give up that easily; especially not around a ghost hunter. Getting up, âjust like that? I mean, you know Iâm not going to be happy youâve got something ghostly on you. Ghostly of unknown origin at thatâ.
Danny shrugs, âno point reallyâ, lifting up his left hand again and thumbing the ring to spin it around his finger. It was plain unnatural how smoothly and easily it spins around. Like it was slick and flawlessly fitted. âItâs kinda noticeable, and like you said, you are ghost hunters. I donât think I genuinely could convince you it wasnât ghostlyâ.
Maddie furrows her eyebrows at that, âpicking your battles. Is that all it isâ.
âYes and no. Part of me was wondering if you ever would notice. And if youâd even be bothered to askâ.
Maddie canât help but flinch at that. She knows she hasnât been the most attentive mother. She knows that. She also knows she hasnât given Danny all the support and help he probably needed when he was younger. Jazz thrived so much on her own, preferred that. In some ways she had just thought Danny would be the same. And sure, in some ways it does look like heâs thrived; is actively thriving. But he clearly wants her, needs her, in way Jazz never did and never would. But heâs always been so hard to read, to know. You could always tell what Jazz was thinking, how she felt; and if it wasnât obvious then you bet she would make it obvious. While everything with Danny was just out of arms reach. Danny didnât put the first foot forward with them the way Jazz did. Danny didnât pounce on openings to make his thoughts and feelings known the way Jazz did. She needed to chase after him; but he always seemed to pull away more or throw up a wall. Maybe she just hadnât tried hard enough? Or maybe he had just grown up. Maddie puts away her dishes, turning away from him, âsorry. I just never know what to do with youâ, looking back to him, âyou're just so...â.
Danny quirks an eyebrow, and finishes her thoughts for her, âstrange?â.
Maddie sighs, a bit relived to hear him acknowledge that himself, and nods. Sitting back at the table, âyeahâ, looking to his hand and the ring, âthat ring. Can you take it off? Can I see it?â.
âThat dependsâ, Danny actually smirks a little, âwill you try to destroy it?â.
Maddie canât help chuckling at that a little, that was blunt but he did have a point. She will absolutely admit to being a bit... rash when it comes to ghostly anything. But she knows Danny doesnât like it when they get on about the evils of ghosts. And more than once that feeling of him knowing something has nagged at her during those rants. Jazz too, but Jazz always had an air of knowledge around her. And here and now, sheâs positive that Danny will refuse outright if she even seems like sheâll damage this ring thing. So she shakes her head, ânoâ, thinking on it a little, âyouâve been wearing that for a while now. Constantly. Obviously thereâs a reason or itâs importantâ, sighing, âI though it might be a gift from Valerie or even Vladâ. Danny becoming friendly with Vlad still threw her through a loop. Especially since it happened out of nowhere. And his girlfriend could honestly be downright intimidating. She could see either of them giving him a ring with a skull on it, even if the skull looked sad for some reason.
Danny laughs a bit loudly at that, âVlad would let Jack punch him in the face before giving me thisâ. Maddieâs not sure what to make of that. âBut in that case, then okayâ, and walks over to the table, twisting the ring off and eyeing it for a bit before setting it down on the table; it making a loud click like it weighed a lot more than it seemed.
Maddie eyes it, making no move to grab it, âso Vlad knows what this isâ, Danny was obviously implying as much. But honestly? Right now sheâs just glad he can take the thing off. That means itâs not possessing him. Doesnât eliminate influencing him though. And if this was something that belonged to a ghost overshadowing him then thereâs no way It would hand it over to a ghost hunter. None.
Danny nods, âhe never did lose interest in ghosts. Heâs more into the mythology and history though, than biology and weaponry. More anthropologist than hunterâ. Maddie looks up to him as he sits down across from her. Him nodding his head at the ring still sitting on the table, âthatâs very old. In a wayâ, smirking and eyeing her a bit, âitâs not going to bite you knowâ.
Maddie gives him a look clearly saying with ghost things anything could possibly bite or harm. But she does pick it up, thumbing it and bringing it close to her face to inspect; though being a bit cautious about it, âif you say soâ. Danny chuckles at that, âI doâ. Which fine, does make her laugh a little.
Flipping the ring around, it really did just seem like a glowing ring. Thatâs it. Nothing seemed special about it. Of course she knew better. Ghostly things, and ghosts in general, could often be unassuming. So that didnât really mean much. âWhat is it exactly?â.
Danny deadpans, âa ringâ, making Maddie give him a âyou know what I meanâ look, which he chuckles over, âyou might understand a bit better if you scan itâ, tilting his head, âslightly surprised you havenât already done thatâ.
Maddie sighs, âI didnât want to push itâ.
âThatâs fairâ. Regardless, she does pull out one of her smaller scanners -not like something of this size would need anything more- and promptly scans the ring. Immediately stilling and just staring at the screen.
This thing... she could literally see waves of ectoplasmic energy being sucked into it. And the things glow was actually the reverse of normal. Instead of bleeding out ecto-energy it was creating a small field that pulled in ecto-energy. What in the world? What was this thing?
Pulling out a small vial of ectoplasm she had left in her pocket and holding it near the ring; never noticing the slight look of concentration on Dannyâs face. Instead watching as all the ecto-energy is just... sapped out of the sample. What? Was this something that could literally remove ecto-energy from anything? What about a full-blown ghost? Or- blinking, or what about decontaminate someone. Danny had been badly contaminated ever since his accident and nothing seemed to permanently decontaminate him. Somehow the ectoplasmic energy would just restock itself. Could it be? Could he have found something that could constantly and consistently decontaminate him? And Vlad, he likely was ecto-contaminated in a similar fashion. His ecto-acne did return that one time after all. So that would explain him likely wanting this thing. Looking back to him, âhave you been using this to control your contamination?â. If so, then this was something she should really be encouraging him to wear.
Danny blinks at her and looks slightly like he doesnât understand how she came to that conclusion for a couple seconds. Which tells her sheâs missed something here. He gives her a quizzical look, âmom... when was the last time you scanned meâ, and seems almost worried for her. Like he found it concerning that she hadnât been doing that frequently.
Maddie blinks and glances to the scanner then back to him, âyou never seemed to like that, so we just... stoppedâ.
âOhâ. He sounds a bit apologetic.
Maddie nods, looks to the scanner, and bites her lip slightly. Looking back to him and holding it up a little, âcan I?â. He nods and she nearly drops the scanner when she scans him. His contamination was worse. So much worse. He was practically bleeding ecto-energy. She canât find anything to say and just watches him as he moves his hand over the ring. Her eyes widening at seeing energy move from the ring to his hand. Like it was feeding him. This wasnât reducing or control his contamination, it was making it worse! And Danny knew. What the Hell?
She canât help snatching the ring away from him, looking to him with worry, âwhy?â, there was so many questions in that one âwhyâ. Why was this expelling ectoplasm into him. Why was he wearing this if he knew. Why was it even doing that. Why was it absorbing ectoplasm from everything but him. Why would he even want something like this. And better yet, glancing back down at the ring through the scanner and seeing that it is not feeding ectoplasm into her, why the heck was it only expelling ectoplasm into him specifically.
Looking back to Danny, whoâs giving her a clear âyou said you wouldnât damage itâ look as he speaks, âI have my reasonsâ. Making it clear he wasnât going to tell her unless she gave it back and trusted him. Which yes, was more difficult than it had any right to be.
She gives him back the ring.
Sheâs surprised though when he just leaves it on the table in front of him. She clues in though, that this is him saying the conversation isnât over. That heâs open to explaining. Trust for trust. Danny nods, âthanksâ. Maddie nodding back awkwardly, she honestly did not want to give it back. That thing shouldnât be anywhere near him. But checking the scanner, it wasnât feeding into him; obviously it wasnât quite close enough. So clearly he was aware of her discomfort.
Maddie swallows, looking back to him, âso...â. Her question was still the same and she didnât even know where to start on elaborating. He had a ring that sucked ecto-energy out of things and fed it into him, and wanted it. Could be like an addiction or something?
Danny nods and leans back in his chair, âalright. This ring, itâs part of a set. I have the other part, obviouslyâ, nodding his head at the scanner, âthatâs why it only does that to me. Not youâ. Maddie looks at his other fingers, which he clearly notices, âthe other partâs not a ringâ.
Maddie nods and bites her lip slightly, âso, this... effect would happen to anyone if they had both parts. But that- why? Why would you want that?â.
Danny wiggles his hand in the air, âthat would depend. Most would be destroyed if they didâ. Maddie chokes at that. This thing could destroy someone??? What is her son thinking???? She doesnât even have to ask though, Danny poking the ring and wiggling it back and forth on the table, âthe set was modified specifically for me, so Iâm fine. Donât worryâ.
Maddie barely feels relieved by that. Because honestly? That just raised even more questions. âWhy? How even?â.
âThatâs complicatedâ.
Maddie instantly recognises that as another âwill she push or just accept itâ. âThen explain it. I want to know, Danny. I want to know youâ, sighing, âand I donât. Havenât for a whileâ. And Danny doesnât even beat around the bush when he replies, âyeahâ. Which hurts to hear. Sure she knew, but still.
Danny eyes the ring for a bit before nodding, looking up to her, âit makes more sense if you know the story of this thing. And before you worry too much, while the ring takes in energy, the other piece expels itâ.
Maddie leans back at that, likely noticeably relieved, âthat... Iâm glad to hear it. Even if that doesnât seem to make sense. Whatâs even the point of pulling in energy just to expel it?â, that made zero sense. None. But at least that meant it wasnât actually making him worse.
Danny chuckles, âand thatâs even more complicated. The backstory really will helpâ. Maddie sighs and nods, Danny was clearly directing this conversation. Which on one hand made her happy because he was trusting her; but that also meant he would only tell her what he wanted to, nothing more. Not like she could make him tell her more though.
Danny smirks slightly, âthere were three before me. I honestly donât know the name of the first. Or much about her for that matter. But the second was a guy named Laufiel who thought he was blessed by the gods and had some seriously speciesist opinions. Thought ghosts were some kind of ultimate beings. He also killed the first ownerâ. Maddie canât help but shake her head and scoff a little at that, though she could see how someone could think ghosts were god-like; especially if this-these things were really incredibly old. âThe third owner killed Laufiel and also had some weird opinions on ghosts. More like a hunter I guess. Thought ghosts needed to be contained, controlled, or obliterated. Also thought humans were inferior though. He thought he literally was a god. Ridiculous, I knowâ.
Maddie has to cut in, âso all these âprevious ownersâ had opinions on humans and ghosts, and clearly acted on them? And... killed the previous owner?â, that last bit carries an implication that she hopes he doesnât miss. Because this trend... it implied Danny had killed someone. Danny gives her a look that makes her think she missed something again.
Danny purses his lips and hums, âhmmm. Okay. I guess that wasnât all that helpful. Though it does have to do with them acting on their opinionsâ, rubbing his neck and seeming slightly embarrassed, âand the âkilling the previous ownerâ thingâ. Which makes her gulp, he thankfully explains himself though, âitâll be better if I explain who the previous owner was, and -to you at least- what he wasâ. Maddieâs eyebrows raise, was Danny implying that this previous owner was a ghost. Because yes, that did change things. Killing a ghost and killing a person werenât the same thing. Though Danny was also obviously pointing out that it wasnât all that different to him.
Danny shocks her out of her thoughts as he speaks up again, âhe was Pariah. Yes, as in the ghost that transported Amity into the Ghost Zone a couple years backâ, rubbing his neck again, âI might have... kinda... wound up ramming a sword through his Coreâ.
Maddie... Maddie has a lot of questions about that. How did that even happen? When was he even in a position to do that? Whyâd he do that? She does feel a bit proud that he destroyed a ghost, but he clearly wouldnât appreciate that pride. Which just makes her mentally emphasis the âwhy the heck would he do thatâ question. And Pariah... that ghost was the most powerful theyâve ever seen. She knows Danny can be reckless but that was pushing it. âYou know how powerful that ghost was, Danny? Why did you? How were you even? Is that why Vlad found you all beat up?â. She barely resists giving him a full scolding.
Danny rubs his neck some more and looking around, âyeah it was reckless and stupid. I knowâ, sighing and looking back to her, âbut, he was effectively comatose when I did that. Down for the count. And if I didnât, someone else would haveâ, fiddling with the ring again, âthese two things, that have this kind of... aspect letâs say, that can tell if the wearer is âno longer worthyâ and needs to be passed on. Which happens if whoever loses to many battles or damages the Zone a ton. Pariah, he was sealed away by a bunch of pissed off ghosts a long time ago, and then when he was let loose Phantom went and beat him up. And so Pariah lost too much. So the ring and whatnot needed to be passed alongâ.
Maddie shakes her head a little, that practically explained nothing, âbut that doesnât explain why you did that? So what if someone else would have done that and got this ring? Why did you have to do that? Want to do that?â.
Danny sighs, âI have my reasons. A lot of them actually. There really wasnât any one reason why I did it. Someone else possibly being able to do it was definitely a deciding factor for why I did it when I did. I personally would have preferred to wait âtill I had graduatedâ, shrugging, âbut I donât mind. And the reduction in ghost attacks, and them not really attacking people is because of thisâ.
Maddie looks to the vial, which still was lacking any kind of glow. Could he? Could he destroy a ghost with just a touch? That... that would definitely encourage ghosts to be more restrained. She knows Dannyâs a protective person. He is absolutely the type of person that would go to an abnormal extreme if it would protect a lot of people. But... protecting the town, humanity, from ghosts was a hunters job. Her and Jackâs job. And he was still young, and this sounded like something that was an âuntil deathâ kind of thing. That.., that absolutely makes her feel guilty, âDanny, protecting the town isnât your jobâ, she ignores the slight tense she almost misses, clearly saying that he did think it was his job, âwhy couldn't we have done this? Me or Jack?â.
Danny actually looks at her like sheâs nuts. âMom, that- you-â, shaking his head, ânot just anyone can just take these things. There are prerequisites. And you two do not meet themâ.
Maddie frowns, okay that makes sense but... âwhat... what are they? What could you have that we donât?â. He was a minor for peatâs sake! And they were hunters.
Danny purses his lips, crosses his arms, and taps at his chin. Muttering, âhow to explain this...â, and opens and closes his mouth a few times. Then sighing after a bit and meeting her eyes, âyouâre going to hate Vlad for thisâ. Which immediately gives her an unpleasant ominous feeling. âRemember how I mentioned Vlad would never give these to me? Yeah he let Pariah out after finding the key to his keep. Vlad is at fault for that entire situation. And he did it to get these items and used Valerie as bait. Vlad didnât âfind me beat upâ he threw me at Pariah and watched me get beat upâ, grumbling seemingly to himself, âif it wouldnât have upset you, he might have left me to dieâ.
Maddie stares at him, feeling more than a little furious. âIâm going to kill that manâ. Danny actually rolls his eyes, âyou and half the Ghost Zone. Donât botherâ, shrugging, âbesides, heâs better now. Still vaguely evil, but not actively maliciously evil. Itâs somethingâ.
Maddie blinks at him, âwhy the Zone are you even friendly to that scumbag. And Iâm still going to kill himâ, sighing and putting her head in her hands for a second before looking back to him, âbut this still, still, doesnât explain things. Vladâs douchebaggery asideâ.
Danny gives her another slightly pitying look, âour relationship is stupid complicated. Iâm not sure I could even explain the mess between us. But ignoring him and his past villainy, because of that situation it was either me or himâ, shaking his head with a slight chuckle, âand Vlad does stupid crazy things if you give him even a slight amount of power. The whole mayor thing is a stellar exampleâ. Maddie cringes at that. That had been pretty bad. It did also effectively make his point though. And she knows Danny can be spiteful, even impulsive, when it came to Vlad. So that did explain things a little. Barely. But a little.
Danny pokes the ring, regaining her attention fully, âso thereâs the backstory, and my part in it I guess. As for the rest of the background, it explains things more. Betterâ.
Maddie straightens up and gives him a strong nod. This is already a lot honestly. But, thinking on it, it was almost nothing too. All he had really explained was how he got this thing, or pair of things really. Heck, she doesnât even know what the other thing was.
Danny rubs his neck and nods himself, âokay. So the pair, theyâre artifacts of sovereignty. Yeah, you heard that rightâ, tapping the ring.
Maddie blinks, what? Is he using that word right? âWhat... what do you mean. âSovereigntyâ, as in kings and queens and royalty, âsovereigntyâ. Are you trying to say youâre royalty now?â. What? No seriously, what?
Danny actually winces at that, âwell... yeah. Thatâs what Iâm doingâ, Maddie just blinks at him which he obviously takes as a hint to keep going, âthe items, their names and appearances change from owner to owner somewhat. But...â, he holds up the ring in front of his face, âthe rings default name is The Ring Of Rulersâ.
Maddie blinks at him more, mouth a bit dry. Swallowing and trying to put the sovereignty thing on the mental back-burner, âand the... other item?â.
Danny is clearly studying her, âI donât really think youâre ready for that. Iâm glad I can keep that one invisibleâ.
â...And you canât do that with the ringâ. Did Danny even realise he basically just said he had a ghost power!? Or maybe it only applied to these items. Shaking her head a little, âI want to knowâ.
Danny looks at the ring and shakes his head, looking back to her, âno I canât. Itâs because it sucks in instead of expels. Which I know hasnât been explained yetâ.
Maddie gives him a hard look, he was avoiding the question. Which means she would probably never know if she doesnât push it, âno you havenât, but I still want to know what the thing that expels is and everything. And the royalty thingâ. Royalty over what? Where? How? Did just having these things make him royalty somehow? Biting her lip, âis that why you said youâd rather wait till after Highschool? Has this given you some kind of responsibility?â. What has Danny gotten himself into? Whatâs this ghostly thing done to him?
Danny sighs and seems to sag slightly against the chair, she can tell heâs clearly debating something. Him sighing again, âdo you think you could wait a little? Explaining the expel/pull thing will kinda explain that, the royalty thing. But, yeah, thatâs why I wanted to wait. Things can be a lotâ, shrugging, âbut Iâm used to it at this pointâ.
Maddie has to force herself not to wince at that. No one wants to hear their kid say theyâre used to things being difficult. Nodding while looking at the table instead, âokay. But I still want to knowâ.
âFairâ. Danny fiddles with the ring some before pointing to the scanner, âokay so, hear me out hereâ. Which only makes that nagging ominous feeling return full force for Maddie. âThese items are obviously ghostly, right? And everything ghostly is connected to the Zone in some way, correct? Well, these two items are much more connectedâ, pointing to the vial, âyou saw what happened there, when the ring was close. Now imagine what would happen in the Zone. Where not being close to ectoplasm is functionally impossibleâ.
Maddie furrows her eyebrows a bit, âwell then it would just suck it all...â, eyes widening a bit, âin. It would suck everything inâ. Oh god. Shaking her head, âbut... but youâre here, not there?â.
Danny blinks at her, âum. Mom? Here and the Zone overlap, remember? Me being here doesnât stop me, or the ring really, from pulling in energy from there. Like I said, more connected. Being here just slows it downâ, pointing at the vial again, ânormally sapping from that would have taken way longer, but I was making the ring focus on it so you would noticeâ, rubbing his neck, âsince that helped my explanationâ.
Maddie blinks, glancing at the ring quickly, âyou can do that? Change itâs... effect?â, swallowing, âand, so you just perpetually absorb from the Zone? I- I donât know what to say or ask about thatâ, shaking her head, âwhy?â.
Danny chuckles awkwardly, âI can alter the effect yeah, I canât stop it though. And yeah, thatâs what I do. Or the ring really. And the other piece sheds or expels all that energy back out to the Zone. So it doesnât stay in me, it just moves through me. Kind ofâ, rubbing his neck and looking around a little before continuing, â-kind of like a filtrator. The ring pulls everything in, my body siphons out the bad and impurities, and the other piece feeds the cleaned ecto-energy back into the Zone. But also like a heart. Because you know that âcontaminationâ I have? Yeah that mixes in with the stuff I expel out, which makes the ecto-energy strongerâ, he then starts gesturing with his hands a little, still not meeting her eyes, âwhich effectively sustains the Zone and the Zone takes the extra to repair or grow itselfâ.
Maddie has to cut in at that, âwait wait, so you are actively helping the Zone. Making it stronger. And, and what happens to the âbadâ your bodyâs taking? Is the Zone just using you to fed itself? I still- this doesnât make sense and this sounds actively bad. And you canât get out of this without someone killing you. This just makes me want to take that away from you. But I donât know if that would even do anythingâ, she clamps her mouth shut to avoid rambling and possibly offending him. Sighing after a beat instead and hopes Danny speaks up before she winds up putting her foot in her mouth.
Danny quirks an eyebrow and actually chuckles slightly, at least she hadnât offended him. âIâm sort of part of the Zone circulatory and respiratory system yeah. Which a body canât exactly survive withoutâ. Maddie canât say sheâs exactly bothered by that. She doesnât want the Zone to âflourishâ. Why would she! That would just make ghosts stronger. Why was- how was Danny okay with this? Obviously he can tell sheâs not impressed. Him narrowing his eyes, âmom, have you ever thought about what the Zone is? Not in the literal âhome of the ectoplasmic manifestationsâ, but in the âwhat is the Zoneâs relation to Earthâ wayâ.
Maddie just purses her lips, the Zone was just an alternate dimension that Earth happened to be close to. Sure that dimension was part of the afterlife obviously, but that didnât really mean anything. But clearly Danny was heavily implying it did mean something. Danny sighs and doesnât give her a chance to say anything, him shaking his head seeming almost disappointed; which does sting a little. âItâs not some detached plane. Itâs intrinsically interconnectedâ, motioning with his hands, âif you take a coin and flip it in the air, sometimes youâll get heads and sometimes tails. But regardless of what side you see or what side youâre on, both are still there. And if you, say, try to blow up or dissolve or cut off one side youâll wreck the whole coin. You canât have one without the other. If one sides damaged, the whole thing is. If one side has a giant hole, then so does the other. The Zone isnât just connected to earth either, but the whole universe. Mom, if the Zone goes, everything goes. And the Zone goes if there isnât someone doing what I amâ, tapping the ring again, âIâm a rechargeable battery for the Zone thatâs perpetually being recharged, yes. But that isnât a bad thing. Itâs emphatically notâ.
Maddie blinks a bit owlishly. That canât be- but thatâs not- how? Is he? How is he even? Maddie canât help sputtering a bit, âb-but how, how, are you- how can you even be? Sure? H-how are you sure?â.
Dannyâs stare is honestly a bit unnerving, âI can feel it just as I can my own body. The Zone is as much a part of my body as I am part of Its metaphorical body. It is effectively an extended part of myself. Every bit of ectoplasm, of ecto-energy, every ghost even; is technically part of me. And-â, Danny pauses before suddenly looking a bit calmer, âIâm overwhelming you, arenât I?â, looking to the side, âand I didnât even respond to what I do with the bad I siphon out, did I?â.
Maddie shakes her head a bit stiffly, âno.... but I honestly, forgot. And yeah, this is, a lotâ. Danny winces at that before looking back to her.
The two sit in silence for a bit, Maddieâs not really sure where this conversation has gone or what of any of her questions has actually been answered at this point. But she can tell by the way heâs just staring off into space, though it doesnât look unseeing, that heâs giving her time and that he probably wonât speak back up till she does. She can appreciate that. And heâs probably off... feeling this Zone? How does that even work or make sense?
Thatâs another thing about Danny, heâs gotten really good at being confusing.
Okay, take stalk of what she knows and the answers sheâs gotten here. Danny has a ring that is indeed ghostly, that has to do with ruling/royalty and three other people -at least one being a ghost- had before him; oh and thereâs some other item that is paired with it. He destroyed the previous owner, Pariah, but it was all because Vlad is an even worse person than she thought. Which she is now again a bit mad over. What else? Right, the whole ecto-energy of the Zone being filtered through his body thus cleansing it and strengthening the Zone. And the whole spiel he just went on that had something to do with the Zone being part of his body? Which didnât make sense. And an analogy about coins that somehow means that destroying the Zone just destroys everything. Which, that makes some sense. It was obvious to even a fool the two places were connected, it wouldnât take much of a leap to suggest that disconnecting them would be catastrophic. And didnât he say that ghosts were part of him or something? What?
Maddie blinks and bites her cheek, sheâs not going to guess how long itâs been now, âokay, so I think I get most of what youâve said. Hopefully. And I could see how destroying the Zone wouldnât be exactly good. But the.... you can feel it thing. I donât- that doesnât make sense. And how can it be part of your body?â, gesturing to him, âyour bodyâs right here. Youâre a solid being. A personâ.
Danny looks to her and hums, âwell letâs seeâ, tapping his chin before stilling for a second, then pointing a finger at the scanner, âif you look at me through that I might be able to make it make more senseâ. Maddie nods, pulling it back up and looking at him through it. He really looked no different than anyone else who happened to have enough ecto on/in them to shed off energy. Danny hums, âI guess you need something to compare to, to realise what your looking at isnât normalâ. Maddieâs almost offended by that.
Watching him look at his hand for a second before shaking his head and sticking his hand under the table. Producing an actual glob of ectoplasm a second later. âWhere did that come fromâ. No way that was just stuck under the table.
âNo where particularâ. Maddie squints at him and honestly canât tell if heâs lying. Though he should know exactly where he got that, he grabbed it. He just points at it so she sighs a little bit directs the scanner to it. Managing to get Danny and the glob in frame and staring. It takes a few seconds to notice the difference. The energy shedding of Danny appeared solid rather than transparent. How hadnât she noticed that? Muttering, âyours isnât transparentâ.
Danny nods, âexactly. Butâ, Maddie watches through the scanner as he moves his hand and actually plucks on one of the strands of ecto-energy, it bending with his finger like he was actually touching it. Which was utterly illogical. It was like how you couldnât literally pluck a ray of sunlight. What he just did, was a literal impossibility. Whispering, âwhat?â. Which he apparently finds funny and promptly chuckles. Her watching a bit stunned as one of the strands moves and bends to spell âI can touch these as easily as hair. And move them as easily as fingersâ. She was firmly gobsmacked. âThat should be impossibleâ.
Danny chuckles some more, âyouâd be surprised how often I hear that. Like I said all that energy is part of me as much as my fingers are. Though hair would be a slightly better comparison, except you donât have feeling in your hair. This one-â, she watches him pluck a different strand of energy, it coils around his finger slightly, â-one of the branching off sections is connected to an area of the Zone where thereâs a big battle of some kind. I can tell because of how they are moving through the ectoplasm, which is again connected to me. And through the ectoplasm in them, which is also connected to me. If I wanted, I could move that ectoplasm and make them unable to move in an instantâ, he chuckles quietly, âbut Iâm not that mean. Iâm kinda big on the bodily autonomy thingâ. Sheâs pretty sure she hears him mutter, âthat, and itâs pretty hard... and feels unnaturalâ.
All Maddieâs hearing is that her son can control ghosts and without even being near them. Immediately she wants to ask why he didnât do that to all the ghosts that show in Amity, but considering the last bit he said; heâd be really against doing that. But... why? Theyâre ghosts and the Amity ones are attackers. Why wouldnât he just stop them if he could? Blinking at him, âwhy?â.
He looks to her, ââwhyâ what? Why Iâm oddly impossible. Why siphoning the Zone makes all of it connect to me. Or-â, Danny then gets that hard dangerous look in his eyes, and just feels dangerous; but catching a glance of the scanner she finally knows how he does that, because all the strands and bits of ectoplasm coming off him are vibrating and even lashing. â-are you asking why Iâm not ripping away any ghosts bodily autonomyâ. Like usual when Danny does this, that entire sentence feels like a threat. Sheâs a bit grateful right now for having experienced this side of him before.
Maddie swallows, âstop that. And honestly? All of themâ, feeling the need to explain herself when his eyes narrow, âitâs just, with all these ghosts that... attack Amity. Couldnât you just... make them, leaveâ, swallowing a bit again, âor somethingâ; because damnit, Dannyâs intimidation tactics were really good at hitting that part of the brain that just screams at a person that whateverâs in front of or around them is absolutely dangerous. And while sheâs proud of him getting bullies off his back, he shouldnât be doing that to family and he knows that. Both her and Jazz have told him that multiple times, but sometimes it was genuinely an accident.
He stares at her a bit more, with her trying not to shrink in her seat, before looking away and huffing; the feeling alleviating almost instantly. And glancing at the screen, the ecto-energy was back to normal slow waving. Well, almost. For him to do that accidentally at all... it must just be like an instinctive natural response. Which supports Dannyâs claim that all this was connected to him. Ectoplasm literally behaved âangrilyâ if he was angry. That was... so strange but nearly undeniable proof in a way. Which means he absolutely knows what heâs talking about and isnât just being fed baloney by some ghost. Danny runs a hand through his hair and mumbles a, âsorryâ, before looking to her again, âand I guess you do have a point. Though like I said, ghosts are less aggressive towards humans now and thatâs my fault. They arenât generally stupid enough to cause serious genuine problems in the home of- my homeâ. Maddie absolutely picked up on him cutting himself off from saying something else. Did ghosts have a specific title for him? Though thinking of it, thatâs probably rounded back to the âroyaltyâ thing. It was probably âkingâ, âprinceâ, âlordâ, or something. What? Zone Lord? Dimensional Prince? Or- oh god.
Maddie looking to him a fair bit wide-eyed as he explains her previous sorta questions. âWhich is actually partly just respect. Yes ghosts are capable of respect. But fine yeah, some itâs just because they know I can basically smite themâ. That doesnât make Maddie feel better about what sheâs currently thinking. âIâm not going to straight-up control their bodies though mom, like I said thatâs mean. That would be no better than controlling a human to me. Which, in the interest of honestyâ, he points to her arm, looking almost sheepish. While her eyebrows raise as she watches her arm lift up and wave at her entirely out of her control. She can tell how though, she can feel the slight pressure the ecto-energy in the air is exerting on her arm to do this. So it was more like he was grabbing her with the invisible ecto-energy than actually controlling the limb. Danny continuing as her arm comes back entirely under her control, âso no, Iâm not going to control ghostsâ, shrugging, âI have my other reasons too. The Zone creates ghosts after all, which rather means I do. Itâs not an active thing on my part but I can feel it. So in a way, ghosts are a bit like childrenâ.
Maddie blinks, when thinking about Danny that made a weird level of sense. He did seem oddly defensive about ghosts, quick to explain away their actions or claim they werenât bad. A parent would do that. But... Shaking her head and staring down at the ring, âI wish the Zone wouldnât make more. No offence. And I donât know why youâd be okay âmaking themââ, swallowing and meeting his eyes, âbut itâs more than that isnât itâ.
âGhosts arenât evil. Iâve pointed that out many timesâ. He continues when she gives a disbelieving huff. âAmity Park just sees more of the rotten eggs. Well okay, I wouldnât call the Box Ghost a rotten egg. Heâd just... stupid and has delusions of grandeur. Maybe a masochistic streakâ. That Maddie can agree with. âBut theyâre all ghosts created under Pariahâs reign. And he was obviously a really bad dudeâ, fiddling with the ring, âyou havenât met any of the new ghostsâ.
Maddie opens and closes her mouth a few times, because he had a point. If he was part of the ectoplasm in these ghosts, it would be logical to assume he had a level of effect on them. Like a parent's genetics when they have a kid or something. So she decides to give him something of a leap of faith, âI guess Iâll try to withhold judgment on the... new ghostsâ, thinking on the words he used, âthe ones made under your reignâ. She can see the moment he realises his wording gave away more than he meant to. Or at least implied something he was likely skirting around. Avoiding. Because well... âDanny, answer me honestly, are you considered their king. The King Of Ghosts or the Zoneâ. She doesnât bother making it sound like an actual question. Because she knows both of them know itâs not a question. More a statement of fact. One that she needs to hear him confirm. And if he denies it... then how?
Danny folds his hands in front of his mouth and stares off into space, humming contemplatively. Which he often does when he was acknowledging that she said or asked something but wasnât choosing to make his opinion known. Which makes her worry heâs going to clamp up. That heâs not going to answer. And now that she thinks about it, didnât that Pariah ghost have a crown?
Danny nods after a while and gives the simple blunt answer of, âyeahâ.
She looks down to the table, âokayâ. And doesnât know what else to say about that. Because, even if she wrote off the âmy childrenâ feeling or Dannyâs ever-present odd tolerance of ghosts, that has been around way longer than the ring. Then ghosts would still be his subjects. His âpeopleâ. And a king is supposed to support and protect his people, whether he likes all of them or not. Hell, he could hate them and that still wouldnât change his role. Sure part of her feels glad or impressed maybe over that since ghosts at the very least reasonably shouldnât go after their king. Swallowing and speaking at the table, âis it just a... title, or do you have responsibilities. Do you actually rule themâ.
âYeah. I rule them. My word is effectively the highest level of law. The Kings Decrees. But again, Iâm not a controlling person. And I donât ask for muchâ, she can hear the shrugging in his voice, the forced nonchalance, âI stop wars sometimes. Resolve skirmishes. Hear requests or complaints. My birthday is a Zone wide holidayâ. Sheâs not sure what to make of the weird emphasis on âbirthâ there. âThereâs balls and parties. I have knights and an... armyâ. She can feel that he hadnât really wanted to keep talking but did probably because he feels she deserves to know at this point. She put her foot forward. She chased after him. She tried. Both to get to know him and to trust and believe him. Maybe that was all he needed to be open with them, open to a degree at least. And it had taken four years. No. Longer than that. Most of his life.
And how sad was that?
But... Armies and knights. Balls. This was a lot. And he didnât just work like the Zoneâs battery. Wasnât just being used by it or part of it or however he felt about it. If anything, that was just an aspect of being their king. The real secret, the real revelation, the piece of the puzzle, here wasnât the ring and what it does. Wasnât him sucking in and expelling ectoplasm âlike a filtratorâ. It was what that ring represented. It was that her son was the ruler, the king, of the things she hunted and wanted to destroy and study. He fed them, nurtured them, supported them, socialised with them. And they respected and feared him. Maybe followed him. Her and her son's ideals and goals couldnât be more opposing if they tried.
No wonder he never said anything. No wonder he had become so distant. Now wonder he would oppose or question their hunting and ethics. And no wonder he had the air of a commander and a sense of wisdom to him. He was a king for peatâs sake! That probably comes with the... position. A requirement or learned attribute. And he quite literally had power thrumming under his skin. His power was technically even in the air. It was an entire dimension and species. What is she supposed to do with this? Because this obviously isnât something he can change. And itâs not even fair for her to even consider asking him for that. And to ask him to treat them like the monsters she considers them to be, would be plain wrong. In fact, wasnât that what Danny said Pariah had done? And look how well that turned out.
But what did this mean for them? For them as a family? Because she was effectively a person belonging to an outside âkingdomâ and species. Who was an aggressor towards his âkingdomâ. So where did that leave them? Or really, whatâs more important to her? Her family or her career. Which was a stupid question with an obvious answer. But still, they were dangerous, they were monsters. Regardless of Danny being their king. Even if he didnât agree on them being monsters. And maybe she actually genuinely can refrain from judging the ânew ghostsâ or maybe Danny being âpart ofâ all the ghosts now would make them less dangerous. Maybe even give them a bit of humanity. Danny was human after all. So maybe.., maybe this was actually for the best. For both sides in the war on ghosts. She already knows what heâll say if sheâs brings that up though. He already thought ghosts were just like humans.
Maddie looks back to Danny, whoâs just sitting there watching her quietly. Waiting for her to think and decide what to say. Obviously family mattered to him. He wouldnât even be trying or doing this otherwise. But his âcareerâ. He ultimately had to do it. He couldnât drop it. Her and Jack arguably could. Danny couldnât put them first. He had to put his âpeopleâ first. Thatâs the job of a king. Even if it hurt or he hated it. Swallowing, âIâm sorryâ.
Danny quirks an eyebrow and gives one of his charming lopsided smiles, âfor what? Youâve got nothing to be sorry forâ.
Maddie blinks at him, a bit dumbfounded, âwe, me and your father, Â are hunters, Danny. Weâre attacking and studying whatâs effectively your subjects. And thatâs not even mentioning that we never noticed all this till nowâ.
Danny cuts in, keeping her from saying anything else, âIâm going to stop you thereâ, leaning forward across the table and patting her hands, âmom, thatâs fine. I hid it. If youâd noticed right away that would have been embarrassing. Even more so if you figured everything I just told you out on your own. And as for the huntingâ, sighing and giving her hand another pat, âyou guys are only going after ghosts that come here and are practically always aggressors. Why would that be a problem? Why would you need to apologise for that?â, Danny leans back while Maddie just blinks and gapes at him, âwhen you go to another country, you have to follow their laws or the cops will chase you down. Itâs no different. If a ghost comes here, they expect to be hunted. Heck, coming to the human world and attacking humans is against Zone law. The Box Ghost is pretty much the only ghost that doesnât get chucked in jail very frequently. And thatâs because heâs viewed as pathetically pathetic there as he is here. And-â, Danny runs a hand through his hair, â-one of my decrees actively allows and supports ghost hunters. So long as itâs after aggressors in the human world anywayâ, obviously making a point to give her a serious look, ânow if you went into the Zone and started attacking, yeah weâd have ourselves an issueâ.
Maddie feels ridiculously touched. He made laws, or just one, that supported her career? âSweetie I, that- thank you. Are you... sure? That what we do is okay? Okay with you?â.
Danny chuckles and nods, âitâs fine. I might not agree with your opinions, or what you claim as fact, and you know I have sabotaged things before, but it is objectively fine. And personally, of course I support you guys doing what you loveâ.
Maddie reaches over and grabs his hands, smiling at him, âthat means a lot, sweetie. I imagine the G.I.W. are different?â, that was a government organisation after all. Not general hunters.
Danny scowls, and feels a bit intimidating again, âconsidering they attempted to blow up the Zone, no. And the Anti-ecto acts are a host of issuesâ, and grumbles off to the side incoherently. Maddie doesnât doubt that if she checked the scanner that the ecto-energy in the air would be lashing around again. At least it wasnât being directed at her, reducing the effect.
Maddie blinks at him, leaning back and shaking her head, âwait, would that? Be trying to destroy you?â.
Danny tilts his head and chuckles, âyes and no. The Zoneâs part of me, yes, again itâs like an extension of meâ, putting a hand to his chest, âmy body is more my body than the Zone isâ. Maddie nods, glad to hear that. Watching him pat at the blob of ectoplasm that she honestly completely forgot about in lue of Danny being a king amongst other things. Humming at it before looking to her, âand thinking of the ghosts I create, would you like to met a Whisp one?â.
Maddie blinks, what? Well... Whisp werenât exactly dangerous and sometimes they cropped up naturally even in Amity. But where? Could he just locate one and pull It here? Or more so would he even be willing to do that with the whole bodily autonomy thing? âFrom where?â, shaking her head a little, âI mean yes, but wouldnât you have to make one come here?â.
âAh, hmmm no. I was just going to make one. It doesnât take much and it happens on accident a lot actuallyâ, and pats the blob of ectoplasm again. Maddie eyeing it, so he could just make a ghost out of chuck of ectoplasm? Just like that? Wait... squinting at him a little, âis that why our samples seem to disappear so often? Itâs not Jack?â.
Danny looks a little sheepish and rubs his neck, âyeah, well for the most part at least. Dad does just misplace it sometimes. But it has to do with me always expelling ecto-energy. If enough of that gets absorbed by ectoplasm it can become sentient. Blobs and Whisps generally. SignalShines once. Proper ghosts are a totally different matter thoughâ.
Maddie shakes her head, absolutely a bit stunned. It did make sense though, if he really expelled so much; which he clearly must if heâs âthe Zoneâs heartâ in a way. All of it had to pass through him. Which was still a bit much to know. âOkay. What are SignalShines though?â. Danny chuckles a bit and pats the blob of ectoplasm again, her watching it start misting and leaning a bit over as it, It, twitches and uncurls from the ball into a more proper Whisp shape. Just like that. Watching It promptly wind around his hand and arm. Him lifting that hand up and letting It start nipping at his hair.
âSignalShines canât survive out of water. Thereâs not exactly ecto-water in the human worldâ, chuckling, âI forgot a thing of Gatorade under my bed for a while. It wasnât Gatorade anymore after a month or so, I can tell you that. There was around forty odd SignalShines in there. Theyâre very tinyâ, moving his hand over to her, the ghost very clearly not willing to let go of him. Was It still feeding off the energy he was shedding? She canât help chuckling a little at his story though, that did sound like a very Danny thing to do.
Poking the Whisp, It poking her with Its tail tip right back. âYou know, this doesnât really say muchâ.
Danny shrugs, both of them watching It push his fingers around to wind through them some, âI know. Whisps are practically just vaguely sentient air after all. But well, I figured youâd appreciate some proof. And donât worry about them biting, little guy wonât with me hereâ.
Maddie nods and mumbles, âyeahâ, while watching Dannyâs face a little. She can easily read the soft fondness there. She knew he was ghost tolerant, had known that pretty much since ghosts were proven to the whole town as being real. She just never realised that it went so far beyond just tolerance or âgetting alongâ. It was probably different with fully sentient ghosts, what with their pseudo-consciousness and pseudo-personality after all. Not that Danny considered it to be âpseudoâ anything. Deciding to do something of a leap of faith and pet the thing with a finger a little. Danny obviously appreciated the effort and Whisps were practically harmless. The most theyâd do is nibble on your clothes or fingers.
Though thinking of It being âobedientâ and Danny maybe, possibly, giving ghosts a level of humanity. How and why were ghosts even willing to tolerate him being their king? âBowing downâ and being controlled, being sustained/fed, by a human. Ghosts clearly thought they were better or âaboveâ humanity. So why? âHey Danny?â. He hums at her so she continues, âyouâre human, so why are ghosts, this one, willing to be so... submissive to youâ. Heck, even with pointing weapons at the things her and Jack have never gotten even a Whisp to be this submissive and cooperative. It hadnât even attempted to nibble her or screech or anything. Watching It squirm Its way under Dannyâs wrist and just stay there.
Danny deadpans, âkingâ, but immediately chuckles, obviously knowing thatâs not what she meant really. âFor Whisps like this it comes down to a simple matter of being able to sense all the energy running through me, and how, exactly, itâs running through me. Ghosts can sense my status. They just know. Whisps, and blobs really, will be like this to anyone strong enough in ecto-energy. You two donât have any due to your suits protecting you, so thereâs no reason to be submissive to you. And me, well, I could destroy a Whisp like this as easily as I can make one. And they can tellâ, shrugging, âso in a way, itâs a survival instinct. All ghosts are that way. Get something strong enough around them and theyâll bend the knee... or run away. The more sentient though, the less youâll be able to tellâ.
Maddie nods, huffing a little, âprideâ. Which Danny does nod over. âThat still doesnât answer my question though. Having the whole Zones worth of ecto-energy or not, youâre still humanâ. Immediately finding herself on the receiving end of that feeling that Danny knew stuff that she didnât.
Danny shakes his head a little, âI had a feeling that would be a hangup youâd have. Iâll admit thereâs plenty who donât exactly like me. And thereâs some that donât like or respect me in the slightest. Theyâre still not dumb enough to go against me though or ignore me if I actually demanded something. Okay, and thereâs the Box Ghost, whoâs is, well, him. But for the most part, my humanness doesnât matter. Most donât careâ, chuckling faintly, âIâve ran into one or two that find it novel actually. Though there are also some who think I should be forced to become a ghostâ.
Maddie has to cut in at that, âyouâre not and donât, right?â. She absolutely would not tolerate him being forced to die or some ghost even attempting to kill him. Period.
Danny immediately shakes his head, obviously well aware how much of an issue sheâd have with that; the Whisp winding up his arm as he talks, âno. Donât worry. A couple, ah, older ones tried to push for it but my head knight, called a Dread Knight by the way, didnât take to kindly to thatâ, chuckling, âbasically swore to obliterate them if they even attempted to attempt it. So no, no ghostâs trying to get me offed, mom. Also-â, smirking slightly, â-trying to is illegal under the Kings Decrees anywayâ.
Maddie nods strongly, âgoodâ, she guesses she shouldnât be to surprised he went and made it illegal to kill him. Sheâd do that herself in a heartbeat. âAnd your... Knightâs that loyal to you? Or obedient?â.
Danny purses his lips slightly, âheâs loyal to the crown, not me. Heâll obey whoeverâs the ruler with absolute loyalty. Itâs his Obsessionâ. Hearing that did actually make her feel better. A ghost wouldnât go against their own Obsession. Often even at the risk of destruction. So this ghost being âloyalâ and thus âprotectiveâ of her son was effectively a guarantee.
Eyeing the Whisp as It seems to be attempting to curl up over his heart, âwell I'm glad youâre protected then. I still donât get how so many could not care that youâre human thoughâ.
Danny sighs, âthey just donât. Itâs really not that important to them. Strength matters far more, as well as capability and fearsomeness. And that I have proper claim of courseâ. Maddie blinks a bit disbelievingly at that. Sheâs not sure how Danny had any of those first three. Particularly before he got this title. How could a teenager without any experience or training be capable as a king? People raised their whole lives to be royals were frequently terrible at it. And human strength just didnât compare to ghosts; raw human strength anyway. And fearsomeness? Maddieâs pretty sure the only thing âfearsomeâ about him is the intimidation thing he can pull, which is thanks to this connection to the ecto-energy that he has.
âNo offence sweetie, but I think youâre rather lacking in those departments. Especially compared to ghosts. Alsoâ, looking at the Whisp still snuggling his chest, âwhatâs that doing?â.
Danny glances down and chuckles, âoh theyâre just curious over the heartbeat. No surprise reallyâ, looking back to her, âand mom, Iâve been involved in more than a fair few ghost fights. Even before the king situation, in fact, I get in less now. Iâve never truly lost. Ever. Amityâs kinda crazy like thatâ.
Maddie shakes her head, âI didnât realise the school hotspot was that badâ.
Danny shrugs, âI just have bad luck half the time. Wind up with a haunted locker or accidentally dating a ghost without realising it. Her boyfriend was pretty pissed about that. Other situations. And-â, looking her in the eyes, â-youâve never actually seen scary Danny before. Or really angry Danny for that matter. Mad? Sure. But completely pissed off? Noâ. Thatâs honestly enough to make Maddie decide that maybe sheâd rather not see that at all.
But still... âI donât know, Danny. Ghosts following and respecting a human still seems so wrong. Like it shouldnât be possibleâ.
Danny just shrugs at her, âwell it is what it is. You can take it or leave it reallyâ. Which was a clear sign she wasnât going to get anything more out of him on the subject. Watching him move to scoop the Whisp off his chest, âyou should go now. Youâre getting greedyâ. So that was a âyesâ on It feeding off his shedded energy. Gaping slightly when a small portal just swirls into existence and he sticks his hand through; depositing the ghost directly into the Ghost Zone.
Speaking up as he pulls his -now empty- hand back out and the portal swirls away, âjust how many things can you do???â, it was actually a bit unnerving. He had powers. Like a ghosts. Though with all the ecto-energy in him/running through him should she really be surprised.
âIts just manipulating my ectoplasm. Nothing more. Just like when I moved your arm or made the Whisp. All ectoplasm is part of me, so I can do with it what I wantâ, and shrugs like this is no big deal.
âCould you cover the town in little ghosts like that?â.
âI could yes, but it would be pretty tiring and pointlessâ.
âWhat about turn the sky green?â.
âIâve done that on accidentâ.
âTelekinetically move things by wrapping ecto-energy around them?â.
âHow do you think I clean the lab so fastâ.
âClean things by ecto-radiating the surface? Ectoplasm does destroy pretty well everything after allâ.
âIâve... never actually tried that, but probablyâ.
âCould you-â, Maddie bites her lip a little, â-transport the town into the Zone like Pariah did?â.
âYeah. With a little bit of concentration at least. Not that I wouldâ.
Maddie shakes her head a bit to herself. So much power, and all from a title. She decides to be honest, âIâm not sure how I feel about all thatâ.
Danny shrugs, âthatâs fine. I surprise myself sometimesâ.
Maddie furrows her brows a little, âbut it doesnât scare you? All of it? The... abilities. Or filtering the Zone. Or the king thing. Or having to deal with ghosts a lotâ.
Danny shakes his head and smiles fondly almost instantly, âhardly. Iâm content. Iâm okay. Donât worryâ. Sheâs not sure if she should smile back or sigh. Sure he said he was happy, okay, and it looks like he means it. But at the same time, this wasnât really okay. He could never hope to have a normal human life. Of course it was never going to be normal normal, he was a Fenton after all, but it was never going to be Fenton normal either. And even though he didnât really touch on it, had downplayed it, he had responsibilities. Probably lots of them. He wasnât even out of school yet. A summer job was one thing, but what he was doing might be better comparable to the president. Just for ghosts. Which were a different species than him and existed in a different dimension. Sheâs not even sure how he manages that. And he probably canât really get any help with it either. She hadnât known this kind of position even existed before today. And it would be risky at best for him to talk about details, combined with him being on the paranoid side; he wouldnât seek people out for advice either. Or at least probably not. Could he even have a regular human job really? Heck, being a hunter was absolutely out the window. Maybe she could find some way for him to be in the family business, but it was obvious this king thing came first. And not just because it was âmore importantâ.
Danny wanted this. On some level or another.
Which is where the positives come in. He was arguably a better person now, and stronger too. He could clearly stand on his own two legs and was at the point where he probably didnât need her and Jack as a child would. Which yes, was something to be proud of. And what heâs achieved was arguably impressive, grand, unprecedented. Was, when it came down to it, good. Especially if this made ghosts less violent and dangerous. He himself was clearly proud. In the end, wasnât that the point? What any parent should want for their child? For them to be proud, successful, and respected? He had all three. Just in an explicitly non-human way.
Looking at him, he was looking off to the side silently. Sheâd normally guess he was just giving her time to think, which he probably was, but maybe he was feeling? something somewhere. In the Zone or Amity, Amity was pretty horribly contaminated. She couldnât even blame him for that, there was probably ghosts here as often as some more scarce places in the Zone. Him and his cycling the Zoneâs ectoplasm thing almost definitely made it worse though. Maybe she should scan his bedroom sometime? Shaking her head, she definitely wasnât doing that right now. But eyeing him, she honestly canât really find anything else to say. Just relaxing and not thinking for a bit might be a good idea.
After a while she glances to the doorway, speaking a bit absently, âsure is taking Jack a whileâ.
Danny hums and nods, âheâs asleep actuallyâ. Maddie sighs fondly at that, because of course he was. Shouldnât have let him have that second helping of fudge peanut brittle. Danny looks to her, âso, weâre good?â. Oh god, sheâs glad heâs the one to broach that topic again.
Maddie looks him over, eyeing the ring on the table, and nods at him. Fairly easily deciding at this point that it was fine. It was okay. And he was absolutely family. Not that that had ever been genuinely up for debate. âYes sweetie, of course. I still honestly donât understand this and I canât say I really like it. But itâs you, this canât really be changed and itâs not really right for me to even want you to change this. So yes, weâre goodâ.
Danny grins and nods, âgoodâ, and moves to grab up the ring off the table. Maddie tries not to feel a little bothered and weird over him slipping it back over his finger. Especially seeing the muscles in his arm and face tense up. Does... does this hurt him?
Danny looking to her as she speaks, âDanny... does that hurt you?â.
Danny chuckles, and it sounds a bit stiff, âIâm honestly surprised you didnât ask that alreadyâ, shaking his head with a slight smile, âmom, an entire dimension follows through my body, thatâs unpleasant to adjust to. But I am adjusted, itâs just slightly unpleasant to reconnect properlyâ.
Maddie blinks, âwait, so you need your two items? Was taking that off bad for you?â. And how did she not think of that sooner? Cluing in that that only made sense. He used the items, as a pair, to filter ecto-energy. It was logical he might actually need both of them on him to do part of his job. But still, sheâs pretty sure that was a pained tensing.
Danny wiggles his hand in the air, ââbadâ? No. Just not pleasant and theyâre pretty much part of me. More so than other ectoplasmic objectsâ, Danny tilts his head and smiles at her, âand at this point I think itâs probably obvious the other item is a crownâ. Maddie nods, yeah that felt honestly obvious now. Danny gestures to his head, âdo you want to see it? Not much point in not showing youâ, and chuckles.
Maddie glances at his head, she knows this is a distraction tactic. But she thinks sheâs okay taking the bait. She couldnât change this or do anything about it. And thinking of the footage of Pariah, âis it the flaming green thing Pariah had?â. Danny chuckles more at that and nods. So Maddie makes a point to ruffle his hair, realising sheâs probably going through it. Intangible and invisible. That was probably for the best. He couldnât very well walk around town with a bright green crown on his head. The ring was less... conspicuous.
âYeah I want to see itâ.
Danny smirks a little, a green glowing flaming crown appearing with a bit a fire show. Which Maddie has a feeling he did intentionally, so she rolls her eyes a little at him while eyeing the crown. It was much more in your face and even a bit intimidating compared to the ring. Even if it seemed rather plain and simple if you ignored the fact that it was floating, glowing, and on fire. Green fire. Though squinting a bit, it looked like there might be crystals? or frost? coating it. âIs it... safe to touch?â. Danny nods and leans his head down towards her. Her poking it tentatively and feeling more than a bit surprised that it was ridiculously cold. Frost it was. Which seems as illogical as cold fire. âItâs... coldâ.
Danny chuckles and stands up right, and again with the charming smile, âyup. Itâs default name is the Crown Of Kings, surprising I know, but under me itâs the Crown Of Cold Fireâ. Maddie thinks thatâs a little on the nose. Danny lifting up his ring hand, âand the ringâs the Ring Of Sufferingâ. Sheâs not sure what to think about that, it was fairly concerning actually; especially considering how literal the crowns name is. Danny runs a hand through his hair, passing under the crown easily, âdonât worry about the names. Anyway, can I go to bed now? Itâs a bit past midnightâ.
Maddie has to laugh at that a bit, not that she wasnât tired too, âI donât think you need my permission, sweetie. And Iâll probably have more questions in the morning, if you want to answer them anywayâ.
Danny shrugs, âmaybe I will, maybe I wonât. Do try to get some sleep thoughâ. Maddie just nods at that as she watches him head up the stairs, the crown blinking out of visibility as he enters his room and taking away that bright waving glow of its that had been lighting up everywhere around him. It really did change the way he looked, it made him feel almost like he was out of reach. Like she couldnât really exist in the same space as him. In the metaphorical sense anyway. Which she guesses, is true.
Her looking back to the kitchen, itâs going to take a while to really understand this. And maybe saying something was up with Danny had been an understatement. Her son was a king and effectively a dimension... sorta. He took being weird and unique to a whole different level. A path that she couldnât follow him down or guide him with. At least his personality made much more sense now. Especially how he seemed as if above people and like people were children to him. Or ghosts more specifically. Because in a way, that actually was the case for him. Though she feels both less and more worried about him now, in more than a few ways. But worrying about him was pointless, and maybe, just maybe, unneeded. It was a bit hard not to though, she was a mother and all; and Danny had gotten himself mixed up in something equal parts important and dangerous. Though sheâs really glad to have gotten some honesty from him. Gotten to know him more genuinely. He was clearly still himself, just a different him than the little space crazed little boy he used to be. Which was okay, kids grew up; it was a fact of life. Hers just grew up running full tilt in a direction that should have logically been utterly impossible. He faced life and made himself the king of death. Which... honestly was rather funny and ironic now that she thinks about it. And knowing Danny... he absolutely got a kick out of it. Which makes her smile a little before shaking her head and heading up to be herself.
One thingâs for sure though, sheâs so going to have to have a talk with Danny about telling Jack all that at some point.
End.
50 days of learning love/Part 2
Pairing: Five Hargreeves x Reader
Summary: You and Five try to get along, but now that Delores is in the picture too... well itâs harder.
Warnings:Â Language, slight angst and probably not accurate facts about the post-apocalyptic world.
Word count: 3k
A/N: Long again, but you guys seemed to enjoy the last one, so decided to write it as quickly as I could! Also happy birthday to our beautiful, amazing and talented baby boy, whoâs now 17! Yay! Enjoy!
After surviving so many things together, you felt safer with Five. Sure, he could be an asshole, but like... understandable. Living in a post-apocalyptic world with literally no food other than bugs and not too much water... for five years... yes. It was awful. But being alone does weird things with the mind...
âSeriously, when will you stop talking with that mannequin and start talking to the one living thing in this world? Me!â you asked, slightly irritated when he didnât do anything else than talking to that stupid thing he named âDeloresâ.
âExcuse me, but-â Five started, but you cut in.
âYes, excuse you! Five, that mannequin doesnât understand you, nor can it think!â you said. âYou talked more to it, than you ever did to me! We spent 5 days together and the most you talked to me was when you were arguing with me.â
âWell, sheâs my friend! And could you stop calling her âitâ?â he looked at you.
âSorry, she!â you said sarcastically. âShe, is not alive! She, does not understand you! She, canât be your friend, because she, is not alive!â
âWell, rude!â
âMe? Rude?! Come on Five, look in the mirror!â
âSee, youâre arguing again!â
âJesus, you know what? Keep talking to your âfriendâ. Iâm gonna escape, before you drive me mad! Ugh!â you exclaimed, truly furious.
âWhatâs the point anyway? Weâre stuck!â he shouted after you, but you just flipped him off. Asshole...
So you started walking, hoping to clear your mind. You knew you couldnât go far, because the night was close and you needed to get back before its fall. You didnât know where to go. Everything looked the same. There was only destruction wherever you looked. But at least you allowed your thoughts to calm down.
You spent the next few hours to just walk around, wondering why was Five the way he is. And why did you get so mad... But then you noticed, that the sun was going down. And you were too far from your place, that you wouldnât get back in time.
âBetter find a safe place...â you sighed and started on your journey for a place to sleep in.
You were scared. Without a doubt. Somehow after 5 days of having someone next to you made you forget how scary the night was. There was no moon to keep you light. The stars were there, but they werenât as bright.
And so went the sixth day and night.
Waking up, you felt the hot sun on your skin. You slowly opened your eyes and sat up. Looking around in the apocalypse, you saw nothing. You sighed as you got up. You knew that you needed to get back to Five, but to be honest, you didnât really remember where you came from. So after you got your stuff, you decided to go west. Maybe that was the right path...
Meanwhile, our dear Five was a mess. Guilt ate at him for chasing you, the only other human being, away. On the other hand, you insulted Delores, therefore you insulted him. But still... he was worried when you didnât show up even after the sun went down. And he was even more nervous when you werenât there when he woke up.
âStupid! Why did they go?? Why did they not stay here? Now theyâre probably lost... Tell me Delores, why??â he looked at the mannequin. âOf course itâs not my fault!â he grumbled. âFine, maybe a bit. But still. They insulted you!â the mannequin stared back dumbly. âWell, itâs not my fault they got lost!â he got a bit angrier. âDelores, donât start. You know that... fine. Weâll search for themâ he sighed.
He put the mannequin into his trunk and then started on his journey to find you. Both of you walked for hours. Both in different paths, that would not cross the other if you went on it, straight, without turns. But you are humans, so you made occasional turns. So you were beyond happy when you saw the slim, dark haired boy coming towards you. You remembered, the conversation you had before you made your escape, but frankly, you didnât really care. Until you saw the mannequin.
âYouâre an idiot. Youâre an idiot and kinda crazyâ you started when you reached the boy.
âYouâre also an idiot and crazy. But do you expect anything else after 5 years in the apocalypse while going trough puberty?â he asked, raising his eyebrow.
âYouâre rightâ you nodded. âBut you were an asshole.â
âAlways have been. But Iâd rather fight with you than be alone.â he said. âWell, with Delores.â
âFine. But we have to make some rulesâ you put your pinkie up.
âYou really expect me to make a pinky promise with you?â he asked, but you just looked at him seriously, so he sighed and intertwined his pinkie with yours.
âYou have to swear, that youâll talk to me not only Deloresâ you started.
âOh, so now youâre going to refer to her by her name?â he smirked.
âFive!â
âFine, I swear. You have to swear not to go full crazy lady on meâ he added.
âDealâ you sighed and you both put down your pinkies. âNow that thatâs out of the way, weâll need to go back.â
Five nodded as a sign that he agrees. As you headed back, he started a conversation, which surprised you.
âTomorrow weâll need to move.â
âHas it been a week already?â you asked, furrowing your brows.
âYeah and we should move to another side of the townâ he nodded.
âOkay, cool. At least we wonât die of boredomâ you sighed.
âIâm not so sure about itâ he rolled his eyes. âItâs been five years, without any kind of activity that we were used to.â
âOkay, but like now we have each other! We can play games that we did when we were young.â
âI didnât play games. We were training and learning every day. We had half hours to spend with games on Saturdaysâ he told you.
âWait, really?â you turned to him. âThatâs horrible!â
âYeah, well, when youâre part of the Umbrella Academy thatâs what you getâ he sighed.
âWell, then Iâll teach you some! I know a bunch!â you smiled at him.
âY/n, no offence, but I really donât want to. I just really want to get out of here and for that, I need to work on the equation.â
âFineâ you sighed.
For the rest of the walk, you stayed quiet. And you stayed quiet when you arrived back, and while he worked. It was kinda a quiet day. But as you went to sleep, you both wished the other a good night.
And so went the seventh day and night.
The eighth day came and went with you guys just walking to find a safe spot to spend the next seven days. Or fourteen. Depends.
Five was mostly talking to Delores or just staring ahead, while you were in silence, kinda amused when he was having an argument with Delores. Or... well himself. Being alone does strange things to the mind. Although you canât really blame him, since all those years alone had its toll on you too. Just in a different way.
âHey, Five?â you called the boyâs name.
âHm?â he looked at you.
âYou ever thought about the fact that there could be others, still alive?â you asked.
âYeah, kind of, I guess. But after five years, I was losing hope. Then you came alongâ he said, thinking.
âYeah. Same here. But now that I met you... what if there are? What if there are people like you. I mean with powerâ you said.
âI donât know. Itâs a possibilityâ he shrugged.
You nodded, then went back to being silent. You were in deep thought and Five was the one who pulled you out of it, when he literally pulled you aside.
âWatch you step!â he said.
You looked back to the place you were walking and you saw a hole in the ground.
âThanksâ you looked at him.
Five nodded, but watched you for a bit, in thought. But then he shrugged and let it go. As you continued on your way to find a place, the sun was climbing up its way to the top and soon, you were left with extreme warmth. But it wasnât exactly only warmth. Some weird cold stuff came too. Like the wind, but it wasnât that.
You looked around the sky, but saw nothing. Five noticed it too, but he quickly realized what it was.
âA storm is comingâ he said.
âOh, okayâ you nodded. âItâs been a while since one was here.â
âYeah. Well at least itâll freshen the air and also gave us some water. Hopefullyâ he agreed.
âHopefullyâ you sighed.
For hours you walked in silence, but by the time, the sun was beginning to lower, you noticed the dark clouds as well. From then, the storm came quicker than expected as the winds picked up. You both knew that you need to hurry when you saw the first lightning strike. So you were looking for a place more desperately. But you werenât quick enough and a lightning struck right beside you, blinding you both for a bit and also separated you two.
âFive!â you shouted when the ringing in your ear stopped.
A small fire rose from where the lightning struck and behind the flames, you saw an unconscious Five. You were scared for him and his well-being and without a thought you walked trough the fire. It didnât burn you or your clothes and you probably wouldâve been shocked, if the sight of Five didnât send you in a shock before.
âCome on, Five!â you kneeled down next to the boy and put your ear to his chest, and when you heard his heartbeat, you calmed down a bit.
You struggled with lifting him up, but you did none the less and carried him to the hole you saw between ruins.
âOh, God. Youâre so heavyâ you grunted as you pushed into the hole and put him down.
You sat next to him, panting. You werenât used to carrying such heavy things as the boy beside you. You were tired, but you were scared to go asleep in case something happened to Five. So you stayed awake, checking on him every now and then.
And so went the eighth day and night.
You woke up to Five grunting as he moved.
âFive?â you sat up and looked at him.
âWhat the hell just happened?â he asked holding his head.
âA lightning struck beside us and we both fell back. I guess you hit your headâ you said. âHow are you feeling?â
âLike I was hit in the head with a rock... four timesâ he said.
âThank God, youâre okayâ you let out the breath youâve been holding.
âYeah, well other than my head, Iâm okayâ he looked up. âWhere are we?â
âI brought you here after the lightning. I didnât want to risk anythingâ you said.
âThanksâ he looked at you. âFor saving me.â
âI would say, anytime, but I donât want you hurt anymoreâ you sighed.
âWell I donât want another time eitherâ he tried to stand up, but almost fell back.
âHey, slowly, bud. Keep it slow and simpleâ you said, holding the boy.
âIâm fineâ he said.
âClearly not! Just... let me help. Pleaseâ you plead to the boy.
Five looked at you for a bit, but then nodded. You stood up and put your arm around his middle and then looked at him.
âIs this okay?â you asked as you felt him stiffen.
He didnât answer for a bit and let out a shaky breath.
âYeahâ he said closing his eyes for a bit. âYeah, letâs go.â
You nodded then slowly started walking. You made sure to look at Five every now and then to make sure he was okay. But he seemed okay, so you continued.
âIf I get heavy, just let me knowâ he said quietly.
âYouâre not heavy. Iâm stronger than I lookâ you smiled at him warmly and he surprised you with a soft smile of his own.
He was truly a beautiful sight when he smiled. You only spent like 8 days with him, but you knew that that was a rare occasion. When you reached your stuff that you left there, you grabbed the trunk and pulled it after you.
You walked for hours until you both got hungry, so you first sat Five down, then sat next to him. You offered him the box, which he took out a few from and started to eat. After eating a bit, you drank a bit of water and then just laid back a bit and stared at the sky.
âHey Y/n?â he started.
âYes?â you looked at him.
âDo you think it will happen?â he asked.
âWhat?â you asked back.
âThat weâll get back to the original timeline?â he looked at you.
âWell... I believe in you. I believe that you can actually do it. So... yeah. I do think it will happenâ you smiled.
He nodded, then stood up slowly. He slowly went to the trunk and you watched him. He lifted up the mannequin and took out something from underneath it. He slowly sat back next to you and thatâs when you saw the picture.
âYou miss them?â you asked.
âEvery second. Donât tell them, I said thatâ he looked at you and you nodded. âBut yeah. I miss them like crazy. Itâs just... everything happened so fast.â
âI knowâ you put a hand on his shoulder and he stiffened again, so you pulled it away.
âWe should goâ he said and you nodded, getting up.
You helped him up and you continued your way. After some hours you found a place and while Five sat (you didnât let him help), you put everything in its place and set up your camp for the week.
And so went the ninth day and night.
When you woke up, you finally had time to realize what the fuck you did when the lightning struck. Well after. You walked through fucking fire! Thatâs like... crazy! At least to you. Probably not so much for Five... if he knew about it. But he didnât.
âHey Five?â you turned to him sometime that day.
âHm?â he looked up from his conversation with Delores.
âSorry... to interrupt your conversation, but... you know how I was there when the apocalypse happened?â you asked looking at your hands.
âYeah?â he furrowed his brows.
âWell... Imighthaveanexplanation?â you spit the whole sentence out.
âWhat?â he asked.
âI... might have an explanation...â you looked at him, worried.
âYes?â
âYeah... well... a day ago, when I rescued you from the... storm... I... um... kinda walked trough fire without getting burned?â you said, but it sounded like a question, like even you werenât sure about it.
âWait, really?â he put down Delores, signaling that his whole attention was on you.
âYeahâ you nodded.
âWell... that would make senseâ he said. âSince everything was on fire.â
âYeahâ you nodded.
âItâs a possible lead. If anything else happens, you can come to me and tell me, okay?â he asked and you smiled at him.
You guys spent the rest of the day just relaxing. Five was talking to Delores mostly, and you were drawing in the dust. Shapes, which turned into different words, then you decided to draw faces. There was different characters from tv shows and movies, and people you knew before the apocalypse. You spent a great day living out your creativity and enjoyed drawing. When the sun went down, you noticed Five looking at your drawing of a character from a tv show.
âYouâre quite good at drawingâ he said.
âThank youâ you smiled.
âHm... I wouldnât have guessedâ he looked at you.
âWhy?â you asked.
âYou just didnât strike me as a person who does such thingsâ he shrugged.
âO-okay?â you furrowed your brows.
But he didnât say anything and you put down the stick.
âWould you like to play something?â you asked.
âWhat?â it was his turn to furrow his brows.
âUm... I donât know. We could start with two truths and a lie.â
âOkay...â
âDo you want me to start?â you asked as you layed down.
âSureâ he said as he layed down too.
âOkay. One... I used to pretend to have powers just like yours and would just run up and down pretending to be a hero. Two, I had a bunch of superhero figurines. And three I drew myself tattoos.â
âI would say the first oneâ he said looking up at the sky.
âNo I actually did that. Your powers are cool. Iâm not smart enough for them, but theyâre definitely cool. But I never had any superhero figurines.â
âNeither did I. But I guess my first is... I used to sneak out with my siblings to have a little fun. Two, I was the first one to learn everything, not my siblings. And three I hate ice-cream.â
âThree. You canât hate ice-cream!â you said confidently.
âI actually really do. Itâs cold and bad for my throat. Frankly, not very healthy.â
âWait, then which one is the lie? Because Iâm 100% sure that you were the smartest out of all your siblings. So... you never snuck out?â you turned towads him.
âNoâ he replied simply.
âOh... Well...â but you couldnât think of anything to say.
He was looking up, but you could see the sadness in his eyes.
âIâm sorryâ you put your hand on his, but he quickly pulled away, like you burned him.
âWhat the...â he looked at your hands. âYou burned me...â
âI-Iâm sorry, I didnât mean to! I...â you sat up quickly and looked at him.
âItâs... nothingâ he shook his head and slowly touched your hands.
You both gasped. Him, because it was still hot, and you because his hands felt cold.
âOkay... well, we have this to deal with tooâ he said.
âIâm sorryâ you said.
âDonât beâ a hint of a smile run through his face, but then disappeared altogether. âGoodnight Y/n.â
âGoodnight Fiveâ you whispered.
