All he has to do is show up at the studio on time, keep his grades up, make sure to see Tony on a regular enough basis that he doesn’t worry and try to squeeze in some patrolling in between. It’s that simple. Right?

Zombie (Steve/Tony)

Tony looked up from his book at the shuffle of lazy footsteps coming down the hall. He smiled when Captain America appeared, in all his Yummy Sushi pajama glory, eyes still half-shut and a pout staying firmly fixed to his face. 

"Good morning!" Tony sing-songed.

"Nuh," Steve said, squeezing his eyes all the way closed and making his way to the kitchen either by muscle memory or by some sort of secret serum sense Tony wasn't aware of.

It was entirely too adorable how much of a zombie Steve was in the morning. 

And not many people knew, either. Tony was so used to jet-lag, so used to all-nighters and multi-all-nighters, and what-is-nighttime-anyway-ers that he could tell exactly the moment that he needed to apply caffeine to prevent a total crash. He could also fall asleep anywhere and wake up - fully and completely - at exactly the moment he wanted to, without an alarm.

Steve, on the other hand, was completely immune to coffee and entirely susceptible to the king-sized, AirCell™, MemoryLux mattress Tony'd had installed in his room. He was also susceptible to the draw of Wikipedia keeping him up until well past bedtime.

"Late night?" Tony asked.

"Bleh," Steve replied. He shuffled to the toaster and pushed the plunger down.

"Traditionally," Tony told him, "one puts bread in first."

Steve stared remorsefully at the empty toaster, and Tony got up and grabbed his elbow. 

"Sit. I will feed you, my lord. If only because I prefer not to burn the tower down." 

"Thnk," Steve mumbled, resting his forehead on the tabletop.

"That was almost a word! Good job, buddy." Tony put four slices of toast in the toaster and dug out butter, jam, marmalade, and peanut butter.  He covered one slice in each once they'd popped, put them on a plate and sat at Steve's side. He set the plate down next to Steve's head which jerked up - much like the toast out of the toaster - and wobbled slightly.

Steve blinked at the toast and smiled sloppily. "Thanks." He picked up the peanut butter slice and hummed with pleasure as he chewed. "Gonna marry the hell out of you, someday."

Tony pondered that thought - complete with flowers, wedding bells, and probably someone's adorable dog as ring bearer - before informing Steve, "Again, traditionally - and not that I'm set on tradition or anything, but just throwing this out there - people date first before they get married."

Steve turned a cheeky grin on Tony that was just a little bit too lucid to be a mistake. "I know. That's why I said, someday."

Tony leaned one elbow on the table and rested his chin on it, turned completely sideways in his chair to face Steve. "Only one way to make someday, sooner, you know."

Steve kissed him, his peanut butter toast crumbs and Tony's coffee mixing together, and if it were anyone else, Tony would have worried they'd regret once they woke up fully. But he couldn't imagine regretting anything that felt so right. 

"Good morning," Tony repeated, awed and breathless this time.

"Best morning," Steve corrected. "Let's go back to bed."

"Awfully forward," Tony teased.

Steve pouted again. "To sleep. It's too early for anyone to be awake."

"It's nine-thirty."

"Exactly. Come with me?" There was that smile again.

Tony had no power over that smile. Or that bedhead, or those ridiculous pajamas, or those half-lidded, soft blue eyes, or that man. "Yeah, of course. I'm bringing the coffee and toast though. And my book."

They shambled back up to Steve's room, hand in hand.
