Review: Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White Rating: 5/5
I said to someone recently that I never think I'm going to like Andrew Joseph White's books based on their synopsis but once I'm actually reading them, I can't turn away. Well, we're 3 for 3 on his books being favourites of mine so I think I can throw that doubt out the window next time.
This was fantastic. It's about class warfare and growing up trans and disabled in a rural town. It's about how family history can follow you around but also how it can liberate you and give you something to connect with. It's about the absurdities of capitalism and "democracy". It's about the wonders of community and activism. I loved every page.
If you are despairing about Trump right now, read this. It will make you feel better.

Seeking beta readers for a queer fantasy romance novel
Tumblr media
Fell A. Marsh's Taker of the Third Path follows Linmiru, a hedgewitch led by his god to an abandoned inn at an ancient crossroads. His task there is to meet the next person to take the overgrown "third path."
Months pass, and a growing connection with one of the inn's guests leads Lin to question his devotion to destiny—but the fate of the world rests on his prophesied meeting with the taker. And when the day finally comes, Linmiru must confront the reality that nothing at the old crossroads has been as it seemed.
If you're into character-driven fantasy, romance that explores darker, heavier themes, queer and trans characters, and some unique and vibrant world building, you'll probably love this book as much as I do!!
No experience required—the goal here is to get authentic feedback from real readers. All you need to apply for a free copy is a love of fantasy and/or queer romance and the willingness to give your honest opinion! The beta reading period begins later this month, so get in while signups are still open!

🌈 Queer Heartache: Poems by Kit Yan
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
Queer Heartache is a full length poetry collection adapted from Kit Yan's award-winning one-person slam poetry theater show with the same name. Kit's poetry explores his identity as transgender, queer, Asian American from Hawaii, while asking what queer hearts and families are made of and interrogating the forces that are constantly working to break them apart.
It’s hard to even try choosing a favorite poem from this collection because they all work off each other in concert, like how a lake is sometimes made up of multiple streams. Reading about Kit’s experiences with identity and family really moved me with the lyricism, the rhythm, and the alliteration. I felt moved, yes, but I also felt like I was parted of something bigger as I read them.

SORRY I HAVE ONCE AGAIN BEEN INACTIVE (EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE INNIT)
I'm just popping on here to let y'all know that my work is going to be in some itchio bundles.
If you haven't heard of them, itchio bundles are deeply discounted collections of things, usually games since that's what the site is primarily used for, but a lot of indie authors are also going to itchio to escape Amazon because *gestures vaguely* yeah. If you haven't checked out itchio yet, I urge you to do so! There's so many hidden gems and some of the weirdest, fuckiest work you could imagine.
They often have themes! These two are for the Trans Rights Readathon. I'm hosting one that is specifically for Horror Romance and Horror Erotica! It runs from now until April 7th, and you can snag 41 books for $30, 69% off of what it would be normally!
I have 2 works in here, my short story duet UNHOLY FAVORS, and the re-release and expansion of my award winning novella Blood & Flowers.
The other one I'm in starts in a little more than a day, and is more general, including Sci-fi and Fantasy fiction from trans creators and creators writing trans characters.
You can snag 38 books for $40, from 30+ different authors, and runs from March 28th to March 31st. This one also has a goal, which will be fun to track!
I also have two books in here, The Apples of New Eden, a taboo sci-fi dystopia Christmas novel, and my novella EYETOOTH.
Be sure to check out the individual creators if you can't get the bundles! There's a lot more work on a lot of their itchio pages, and if you want updates from them, you can follow them!
Itchio is such a valuable resource for indie authors as bigger marketplaces crack down on content, and a wonderful place to find authors you might miss otherwise. There's also lots of cool games, comics, visual novels, and I've even seen some packs of illustrations you can use in your work there!

🏳️‍🌈 BOOK REVIEW 🏳️‍🌈
Blood Orange by Yaffa As
QOTD: Do you read poetry?
[instagram]
Review below cut
I’ve left this unrated as I find it uncomfortable to rate personal stories and while this is a poetry collection, it is clear this is deeply personal.
This is the first poetry book I’ve picked up in 10 years and I am so glad I did.
The style left me uncertain at first, but Yaffa’s words are so full of feeling, of raw emotion, that I ended up hooked. I’d planned to read just one poem here and there throughout the month and instead binged them all back to back unable to stop.
Yaffa’s perspective is one I’ve not read from before and I think it’s really important that people do.

If you liked A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan, try Our Hideous Progeny by CE McGill
they both include:
lady scientists struggling in a patriarchal system
in-depth explorations of life as a scientist in a pre-Industrial world
chronically ill characters in Victorian-esque settings

just finished poppy z. brite's "exquisite corpse" and it absolutely wrecked me. was especially really, eerily compelled by the abusive and tense relationship between luke and tran.
they are both such fascinating and honest characters. i've met them, i've known them, i've loved them, i've been them. so i had to sketch them out.
i really loved the book but it is incredibly graphic and is probably the most objectively vile thing i've ever read. it's a book about two gay serial killers, the runaway who gets caught up with them, and his abusive ex-bf-turned-abrassive-niche-radio-host.
but, it is also such an honest and compelling exploration of queer relationships, of desire, of mortality, and of the social impact of HIV/AIDs. also the prose is bone-chilling, beautiful, and gruesome while still feeling very down-to-earth and real.

My Bengali trans queer debut poetry collection There Used to Be a Lake Here Once was mentioned for the 2024 Pride Collection of Writers Workshop, an Indian independent publishing house. In this list, my book is featured alongside some of my greatest poetry inspirations– the works of Suniti Namjoshi, Agha Shahid Ali, Hoshang Merchant.
If you want to support Indian queer voices, small literary press, trans poetry or just read about growing up in Kolkata as a queer kid in the 2000s, you can buy my book here.

oh btw there's this awesome database of trans writing, which includes literally everything from self-published zines to research articles to novels to short stories.
Meanwhile, Elsewhere is a personal favorite of mine if you're interested in sff anthologies.
