I’m such a sucker for Hurt/Comfort fics and there’s just something about a person finding comfort and safety in the arms of another, and being able to fall asleep from that. Absolutely lovely.

for example i could say Einführungsveranstaltungsteilnehmer (which is not underlined with red by tumblr because it is a grammatically correct compound word (i think that‘s what they‘re called?)) which is the words introduction + event + participant, so that word just means “participant of an introductory event“ but instead it‘s one word? i hope that makes sense? dkdkkdksks i mean it makes sense in german but idk if it makes sense to you cause idk if i‘m explaining it very well lmao,

Okay so skdjdjdjddhhddhdhjsk... I used to watch all of my series in German (like H2O) bc obviously they were on german tv so they were german- and i knew that most of these actors i saw on tv were american and i was always SO fascinated that they all learned german for this show??? Like I actually thought they were the people‘s real voices and that these English and American actors were learning german so they could re-record the whole ass show and do everything in german dkdkdldjdjjd... i swear I thought that until I was like 14 omg. He was there. Alive. For a few seconds Eduardo thought his novio was dead. Right in front of him. Again. Being on the Team was useless. He was still hopeless to save Bart from deadly wounds. 

But Kid Flash just phases that pile of rock, as if a wall didn’t fall on him five seconds ago. He was a mess, dirty but breathing. Ed cannot stop himself but kisses him, relieved. He didn’t mind the weird mud taste on his lips as he can feel the warm ones of his querido.

And then he sees the flash. Not a flash like his novio or the Flash himself. But a light flash. A camera flash he understands.

Someone saw them kissing and took a picture. It went viral. Teenagers are so pleased to see superheroes can be gay too. Well technically he’s bi but still. They’re a gay couple. The person didn’t think to hurt. They would think it was great and important for people to see other like them. Eduardo doesn’t care that the world knows his superhero persona loves a boy. But he cares as a person as he wasn’t out to people outside the Outsiders. Ironically.

Wendy sends him a text saying she’s so happy for him, with a lot of exclamation marks and an emoji with heart eyes. Yep, definitely the supportive little sister he wished for when he was younger. Tye calls him the next day, telling him he was happy for him and they should go on double date as they do with Jaime and Traci. Ed blushes lightly as he remembers he first questioned his sexuality with Tye but quickly push the feeling away, bury what might come with him. And he buried it even deeper when he started to date Asami. At that time, he had so many things to deal with he didn’t want another one.

But now he has to. He has to deal with the person he was the most afraid to tell his sexuality, his feelings for a boy. He has to go back in the Center one day.

Of course his papá would love Bart - who wouldn’t? - and maybe Bart was closer to the son he wished to have... He was kind and clever, a genius at science. Jaime even told him he even built his own timemachine. His papá would turn loco if he knows that. When Jaime asked Bart how he managed to find the theory of time travel, Bart revealed he got inspired by the Zeta technology used by the Team and he salvaged pieces in the Mount Justice ruins. So Bart was pratically a fan of his papá’s work. Genial. Now he fears the two of them would become unstoppable about zeta technology while he, the living Zeta machine, would just stand beside them, not understanding a word. He brushes the thought off. His papá nor Bart ever made him feel stupid when they talk about science in front of him. He is just freaking out.  

“Si, por supuesto.”

“Entonces es todo lo que importa, mijo.”

Ed initiates the hug this time, relieved and happy.

Despite being a hero with superpowers, helping kids through their trauma and with their powers and having a boyfriend from the future, his life was finally in order.

“How was it? You know... with your dad.” asks Bart when he arrives at the Center.

“Bien. He wasn’t angry at all. I think when your son has superpowers, nothing can surprise you anymore...”

“Yeah, that puts things in perspective! Oh by the way, Gramps wants to meet your father. What do I say?”

“¿Qué?”

“Yeah, he wanted to know your secret ID so I told him - wasthatbad? - and he connects the dots whith your father and now he wants to meet him because he wants to talk science. Maybe he’s a fan? WhatshouldIdo?”

“I repeat: ¿Qué?”

“We’re moded, right?”

“Ugh... I just hope they will get along thanks to science...”

Now it would not be only his papá and his novio talking about science at a family dinner but the Flash himself too. But if that means the four of them getting alone, he will be fine with that. 

“I hope your father will get along with my grandfather, because I’m not sure he’s into babysitting, right?”

And that was sufficient to make Ed laugh again with the picture of their fathers.

Well, I’m more fluent in English than I am in Spanish so I hope I didn’t make too much mistakes... 

With our first explicit rep, I wanted to write something positive. I think Eduardo Senior is a loving dad but sometimes doesn’t know how to show it. 

As Ed and his father are Argentineans and not American Spanish speaker, I think they will switch back to their native language whenever they speak to each other, at least alone.

This book was not what I thought it would be but am glad that I read it and in reading it learned a bit, laughed a bit and enjoyed the reading while wanting to find out what will happen next in this series.

Garrett resisted the urge to glance over his shoul­der to check on her. Natalie was a grown woman and he didn’t need to protect her from being swarmed by admirers. Besides, she was the one who had proposed they refrain from other relationships, so she wouldn’t do anything to hurt his reputation or hers.

Earlier, at her apartment, he’d caught fire at the sight of her in her little black dress. It was demure compared to the one she’d worn at Le Rêve, but it hugged her hour­glass figure and highlighted the curves underneath just enough to tease his imagination.

He walked to the bar for his Scotch and grabbed a flute of champagne from a server on his way back. As he’d anticipated, Natalie was now surrounded by a group of men and he lengthened his strides to reach her.

“Sorry to keep you waiting, sweetheart.” He pressed a light kiss on her lips and handed her the champagne.

“Thank you.” She leaned her head against his shoul­der when he pulled her to his side, playing her part like a pro.

“Natalie was just taking us to task about USC’s new head coach. It seems neither he nor I truly understand college football,” said one of Mike’s college friends.

“Is that so?” Garrett raised an eyebrow at her and she shrugged.

“Taking you to task is a bit harsh.” She hid her grin against the rim of her champagne flute as she took a long sip. “It’s just that I have a better understanding than you guys.”

The audience winced and guffawed at her cheeki­ness. As Natalie continued with her lecture, all the men listened intently, as did Garrett. She was funny and down-to-earth, and her mind was quicker than light­ning. Lost in her words, Garrett belatedly noticed the crowd had grown. Her champagne glass was depleted and her smile was becoming strained.

He leaned down close to her ear. “Tired?”

“And hungry.”

“All right, gentlemen. I’m whisking away my date now. I’m tired of sharing her.”

When the crowd finally dispersed, Natalie slumped against him with a groan. “I need food, champagne and somewhere to sit.”

A server walked over with a tray of bacon-wrapped shrimp and Natalie snatched a couple of them. She popped one in her mouth and mumbled around her food, “Not necessarily in that order.”

Garrett laughed and guided her toward the French doors leading out to the garden. Natalie ate every sin­gle hors d’oeuvre she met along the way and finished another glass of champagne.

“Holy cow. Is everything really, really delicious, or am I just famished? I would totally go back for that crab cake if my feet weren’t screaming at me to get my butt on a chair.”

He glanced down at her zebra-print high heels. They did amazing things for her legs but didn’t look remotely comfortable. “There’s a bench around the corner.”

“Oh, thank God.” She kicked off her shoes as soon as she plopped onto the seat.

Garrett shrugged out of his jacket and draped it around her shoulders before sitting next to her.

“Thank you,” she murmured, gazing at the garden. “It’s so beautiful out here.”

“Is it?” He and Mike had grown up tearing apart that very garden, but Garrett had never sat still and taken it all in, like they were doing now. “I guess you’re right.”

“Mmm-hmm.”

He studied her profile, her high, regal cheekbone and the graceful curve of her neck. Half of her hair had escaped the loose knot behind her head and fell down her back and shoulders. He wanted to sweep aside her hair and feel the softness of her skin, which he abso­lutely should not do.

“So how do you know so much about college foot­ball?” He tore his gaze away from her and stared at an old maple tree ahead of him, hard enough to make his eyes water.

“Long story.”

“We’ve got time.” He made a show of checking his watch. “I’ll give you ten minutes.”

Her laughter filled the garden, then ended on a wist­ful sigh. “My dad and I, we weren’t very close. The only time he didn’t mind my company was when we watched college football together. He was a huge fan. I don’t think he even noticed I was sitting there half the time.”

Garrett understood what that felt like. As soon as he finished graduate school, he’d thrown himself into his work. It was satisfying in its predictability and it created a common ground for him and his father. His dad had stepped down from the CEO position when his mom died, but returned to Hansol a few years later as an executive VP.

“I thought if I learned enough about the sport, he’d like me a little better.” Her shrug told him it hadn’t worked, but Natalie told her story without an ounce of self-pity—like she owned her past, hurt and all. His respect for her deepened. “But soon I noticed I wasn’t faking my enthusiasm anymore. I’d grown to love the sport. Who knew it’d come in handy at an intimate birthday party for a hundred people?”

“You certainly won over quite a few of them.”

“I did?” Her eyebrows shot up in genuine surprise.

He huffed out a laugh. “Why did you think that crowd was hanging on to your every word?”

“Watch yourself, Garrett Song.” Natalie narrowed her eyes and pointed a finger at him. “I know where you live.”

He snatched her hand and tugged her to her feet. “Yes, and you’ll be living there with me starting Sun­day.”

“Ugh.” She hooked an index finger in each of her shoes, not bothering to put them back on. “Do you ever stop thinking about work?”

“Yes.” He cocked his head and pretended to con­sider her question. “But only when I’m thoroughly dis­tracted.”

Her lashes fluttered and color saturated her cheeks, and his gut clenched with heat. She could definitely become his most dangerous distraction.

Girl Crush (Harry Styles fanfiction)

Hi there! I’ve decided to do something a bit more different in contrast to my Peter Parker fanfiction. This, of course, is a Harry Styles one. I’m in the middle of writing my Peter Parker fanfic, so there’s that.

I know this will sound really cliche that I used the president’s daughter premise/storyline but I think it’s cuter to be a bit more unrealistic and to have more of an idealistic setting and plot. American or not, you can surely fit yourself in the plot, we can all dream to be the president’s daughter (but not Trump’s! hellz nah!!)

It’ll also be featuring the rest of the boys in future chapters, I don’t know when, but they’ll appear. ;)

PROLOGUE

Y/n’s footsteps pitter-pattered against the carpeted floors, trying hard not to make a sound.

“Shoot, where’d I leave my keys?” Y/n grumbles, searching through her black handbag.

“And where did you come from?” A voice interrupts her from rummaging her purse.

“Crap…” Y/n mumbles.

“Ms. Y/n, your parents wish to speak to you in the yellow oval room.” Marty, her bodyguard reminds her.

“Both of them?” Y/n asks, dumbfounded.

“Yes. Best not make them wait.” He warns.

He opens the door and announces her arrival to the first couple.

“Alright, let’s get it over with.” Y/n starts as soon as Marty closes the door.

“It’s 1 AM and you didn’t have your bodyguards with you! I’ve been calling you for hours and not once did you answer my calls! Didn’t you ever think of telling me or your dad about your whereabouts?” Her mom chastises.

“Mom, I’m fine, I was just hanging out with my high school friends. What’s the big deal?” Y/n grumbles.

“The big deal is young lady, you never told us whereabouts and you didn’t even bother to bring your bodyguards with you! I just wish you called us.. heck, I wish you called me, that’s all. I would’ve understood.” Her dad reasons out.

“Richard, you have got to stop being so lenient towards our daughter. You and I both know what she did tonight was out of line!” Y/n’s mother protests.

“Honey, she’s 20 and she’s in college. She’s an adult, we can’t really hold her back from everything that we think is wrong. My only wish is for her to bring her bodyguards with her.” He argues.

Her mom just rolls her eyes at her husband’s statement.

Surely, as the First Lady of the most powerful country in the world, she wouldn’t have time to look out for you, but as America’s sweetheart, it’s in your image to become the obedient daughter your parents never had.

“Mom, what do want me to do? I stayed home for the summer, didn’t I? I was supposed to go to Europe to take fashion classes but you wanted me to be here?! Can’t I at least enjoy every bit of my freedom?” Y/n snarks back.

“Of course you can enjoy yourself, but your father and I were worried sick! We already have enough work on our plate as it is.” She admonishes.

Y/n’s parents were successful lawyers before her dad got into politics which eventually landed him the most important job in the world. Her mom, on the other hand, had to give up her law practice as soon she became the First Lady of the United States.

“Can you at least save some of your judgments and your screaming tomorrow morning? I need to rest.” She tells them, preparing to walk out of the room.

“You’re drunk, that would just be cruel. I’ll wait until you’re hungover so it’ll be twice as painful.” She tells her daughter before she could leave.

“Ugh!!” Y/n screams before walking out of the room and slams the door behind her.

4 hours earlier….

After Pre-gaming at one of her friends’ house, they decided to bring her to some gig.

“Why is It so dark and sketchy? I didn’t bring my bodyguards for this.” Y/n reminds them.

“Relax, it’s just a small gig. Nothing bad’s gonna happen…. Well if you don't count the high level of screams you’ll be hearing.” Andy, her friend tells her.

“I don’t think that’s what you consider a small gig, Ands.” She chastises her.

“Y/n, you’re gonna be fine. In fact, you’ll probably like this one.” Mia, her other friend chimes in, handing the tickets to the guard standing by the door.

Sure enough, there were about hundreds of girls squealing in anxiousness, and a handful of guys just casually waiting for the concert to begin.

Y/n walks toward the crowd only to be stopped by Andy.

“We’re not standing there. There’s a balcony upstairs that we may have reserved using your name.” She states.

“Oh wow. Thanks for the heads up!” Y/n facetiously tells them.

“Come on.” Mia leads the way upstairs, the guards smiling down at Y/n, probably recognizing the daughter of the President of the United States.

“Wow Y/n even these bald, muscley men are scared of you. I forgot how fun it is hanging out with the first daughter.” Andy laughs.

“Well nobody asked you to move to California for college. We could’ve been enjoying New Haven together.” Y/n reminds her.

“Yeah! Or with me in Chicago.” Mia adds.

The three of them sit on the couch as the lights begin to dim, the screams growing louder than before.

The guy with curly, brunette locks walks out to the center of the stage, fans screaming his name in complete hysterics.

“You dragged me to watch him?” Y/n looks at Mia and Andy with a disbelief look.

“Oh come on!! You know how much we love him and the band, plus he has a concert here tomorrow. This is more of an exclusive gig with like less than a hundred people invited.” Mia states.

“Yeah but that doesn’t mean I wanted to come.” Y/n grumbles.

“He’s really good, Y/n. Just give it a chance.” Andy adds.

Harry begins to sing Kiwi, the crowd jumping up and down to the beat of the music.

Y/n could feel the floor shaking, as Mia and Andy stand up from their seats and jump along.

As soon as the song ends, Andy and Mia look at her with grins on their faces.

“God! That was so good!” Mia exclaims, grabbing her by the arm, forcing her to stand up.

“Don’t be such a Debbie downer and watch the cute curly-haired guy serenading us.” She reminds Y/n.

All the lights point at the brunette guy who was strumming his guitar.

I got a girl crush

As cheesy as it was, Y/n could feel her heart drop. His voice was raspy but it was just enough to make her tummy flutter a little.

Harry strums his guitar, looking around the crowd as if he was looking for the subject of the song.

I got it real bad

That smile and that midnight laugh

She's giving you now

“Not gonna lie, he’s pretty good.” Y/n tells Mia and Andy who are all smiling down at Harry, not paying attention to her.

Y/n just rolls her eyes and continues to watch.

The shout of the fans interrupts Harry from his reverie while playing the song. It was one of the first songs he learned in the guitar and always had a special place in his heart, but he also felt as if he was being watched by someone but he doesn’t know who it was.

Harry gives a flying kiss to the audience as he hands the guitar back to his friend backstage.

“That was great, Styles! Let’s get hammered after this.” His friend tells him.

“I’m holding you to that.” Harry points back at him before performing another song.

As soon as the gig was done, the three friends decided to go to a pub down the road to drink until someone will pass out of drunkenness.

“Listen, you’ve had a long year! A break up isn’t the end of the world, drink up!” Andy hands a shot to Mia.

“It wasn’t a breakup, he just finally came out of the closet and I was his beard. I was a beard.” Mia drunkenly grumbles.

“Well, we all warned you, that boy was more feminine than the three of us combined. You really didn’t realize until he decided to go to Parsons for a fashion degree?” Andy asks.

Mia shakes her head.

“He checked out my prom dress and told me I was a lucky girl bringing a Harvard man to prom.” Y/n reminds her.

“God, why did he have to be gay?!” Mia takes two shots before wiping her mouth.

“Now you.” Andy points her finger at Y/n who just laughs at Mia’s misery.

“Do one more, Y/n!” Andy screams as she hands Y/n  a shot of pure vodka.

“I’ve had like 8 now! I can’t.” Y/n pushes the shot glass away.

“Come on! I know you’ve had more than that back in high school.” Mia giggles.

“That was high school. I’m a changed woman.” Y/n smiles her friends.

“Changed woman, my ass. You may go to Yale but we all know you have the social skills of a girl from a party school.” Andy retorts.

“I don’t want to drink anymore.” Y/n moans.

“I’ll take that then.” A voice interrupts the three girls as the sound of a ring clinks with the shot glass.

The three friends look at one another before moving their heads to where the guy is standing.

“Hi. I’m Harry.” He smiles at them before chugging down the vodka shot.

Cold. Even though winter is almost gone, everything still felt cold. Even before winter came, it still felt cold when this cruel world decided to take something that gave me happiness. What am I to do now? Why am I still here? How shall I end my suffering, without taking my own life?

Voice: Kyle...? KYLE!!

Chestnut eyes open to the sound of a girl’s concerning voice. All they could see is the orange tint of the sky during a sunset. A brunet boy sits up after waking from his snap while rubbing his eyes. A brunette girl is sitting next to him, with an annoyed look, while a blond boy is sitting beside her, with his arm around her shoulder and while sharing the same expression as her.

Girl: Finally!

Kyle: Ugh... what? What do you want, Karen?

Karen: You slept past an important conversation again.

Kyle: What’s so important about my future...?

The girl rolls her eyes and turns to her boyfriend.

Karen: Sam, help me out here...

The blond boy grins and his ocean-blue eyes light up. He reaches to nudge his friend’s arm.

Sam: Come on, Kyle! Tomorrow’s our last quarter in our last year in high school. Aren’t you supposed to be happy?

Kyle stands from the inclined grass plain and walks to the nearby river. He picks up a few rocks and skips them across the river.

Kyle: Why should I be happy? Nothing can every make me happy after.... six months ago...

Sam’s grin quickly falters as he shares the same depressed look as Karen while she clutches her chest.

Yeah, it’s true. Nothing’s been the same for six months. It’s all been black and white to me. My parents passed away during an accident. Accidents; worthless excuses for the world to take something from you so heartlessly. 

Kyle decided to stop and come back to sit with his sister and his friend.

Kyle: ....But you know? To be honest, I am feeling kind of excited for tomorrow.... Kind of...

Smiles return to Karen and Sam. The blond boy lightly punches Kyle on the arm.

Sam: That’s our boy!

Karen: It’s not a lot but it’s good enough. We’re here for you if you need any help.

Kyle smiles and nods.

Kyle: Thanks, guys.

I lied. I just didn’t want them to bring the subject back to my mind. Whatever satisfies them just to make them change the subject into something else other than... that, I’ll do it.

The three best friends stayed by the riverside longer as they watch the sun set between the mountains. Once nighttime arrives, they got up from the grass plain and go to their bikes. They mount their bikes and cycle back to their respective homes, but not before Karen and Sam shared a sweet kiss. Away from their vision, Kyle manages to smile... slightly.

Even though Mom and Dad are gone, I just can’t help but be happy for my sister. She’s found someone who filled in the gap in her life. She’s been more enthusiastic with her stories and films than me with my artworks.

Kyle proceeds to look up and stare at the moon and stars.

When will I find that ‘someone’?

Karen taps his her brother’s shoulder and Kyle looks behind her to see Sam waving at him while cycling away. The brunette cycles past the her brother.

Karen: Last one home gets to wash the dishes!

Kyle: Hey!

Kyle tries to catch up to Karen but was easily defeated when they reached home. Karen celebrates and laughs.

Karen: Haha! I win!

Kyle: No fair! You had a headstart!

Karen proceeds to laugh again as she and Kyle enter the house. They are greeted by a tall brunet, wearing an apron and his hair tied into a ponytail.

Kyle: Hey, Lucas.

Karen: Hi, Big Bro!

Lucas: Ah, good. You’re here just in time. Dinner’s ready.

Lucas. He’s been here ever since he graduated from college last year and heard the news about Mom and Dad. He’s been taking care of me and Karen while serving his job as a freelance IT, providing technological help to any business in need. He’s very good at his job. In fact, my family consists of very talented people. It’s why we get around life so easily when it comes to finance.

Karen skips to the dining room while Kyle walks behind her. The three siblings gather around the table and start having their dinner. Lots of laughs and stories were shared until they finish. Kyle, honoring his part of the deal, washes the dishes but with Lucas’s help. Karen heads upstairs to her bedroom and starts writing another one of her great stories. While washing the dishes, the brothers have a heart-to-heart conversation.

Lucas: So...

Kyle: So... what?

Lucas: Have you found your ‘Sam’ yet?

Kyle: WHAT?!

I know Lucas didn’t mean Sam that way but someone similar to him, someone who can bring me happiness the same way he did to Karen. But still, does my big brother have to bring it up that way?! I looked at him, annoyed while he chuckled.

Lucas: I’m just kidding. I meant have you found your ‘special someone’ yet?

Kyle shakes his head.

Kyle: No...

Lucas kept a smile on his face.

Lucas: I’m pretty sure you’ll find that person soon. After all, spring is coming and most happy beginnings start in spring.

Kyle: Yeah? Happy beginnings? What about endings? Have you seen Your Lie in April?

Lucas: Uhh... well...

Lucas shakes his head and squints his eyes towards his little brother.

Lucas: You know what I mean!

Kyle chuckles and finishes his half of the dishes.

Kyle: I get what you mean. It’s just... isn’t that a bit cliché?

Lucas: It’s better than having nothing at all.

I don’t know why, but Lucas always has more impact towards me with his words than Karen. I feel guilty for lying to her earlier about my fake happiness. She does have an impact on me but...

After the dishes, Lucas pats Kyle on the back before the little brother runs upstairs and knocks on Karen’s door. She opens it up and peeks out.

Karen: Yes?

Kyle: I’m sorry.

Karen: For what?

Kyle: For faking my smile earlier.

Karen: I knew...

Kyle: You did?

Of course, she did. She’s my twin sister. Even though we’re not psychics, she can still tell if I’m lying or not.

Karen: Don’t pretend like you don’t know that I did.

Kyle looks down.

Kyle: I’m really sorry.

Karen fully opens the door and reaches to hug her brother.

Karen: It’s okay. I just don’t want you to end up becoming a talented, yet monotone artist. There’s more to you than that.

Kyle remains silent as he just nods.

Maybe the reason Lucas has more impact on me is because he’s more sympathetic with his approach. Karen always make me smile through hilarious antics yet she can never do it when she shows concern. This has been the first time that she did have an impact on me, and it’s not the last.

Kyle and Karen pull away from their embrace and smiled.

Karen: There we go! An actual smile!

Kyle grins and chuckles.

Kyle: Alright, alright. You win.

Karen ruffles her brother’s hair before going back to her room, laughing.

Karen: Good night, Kyle.

Kyle: Night, Sis.

Karen closes her door and Kyle goes to his room. Meanwhile below the stairs, Lucas is hiding and eavesdropping on their conversation. He smiles before going to his room.

Morning rises and spring quarter has begun. Kyle, Karen and Lucas get out of their house, all set and ready for school and work, respectively. Lucas gets in his car and drives off, but not before greeting his siblings goodbye.

Lucas: The usual 6 pm! Bye!

Kyle and Karen wave to their big brother before mounting their bikes and making their way to school. They are joined by Sam and soon, the three reach Skylia High School.

Sam: HELLOOOO, SPRING QUARTER!!!

Karen giggles at Sam’s excitement while Kyle just rolls his eyes as they lock their bikes at the bike rack. They eventually split and and go to their respective club rooms; Kyle to the Art Club, Karen to the Stories & Film Club, and Sam to the Gymnasium. The three wave at each other while walking to their respective destinations.

Kyle: I’ll see you back by the end of school!

Karen: Talk soon!

Sam: YEET!

Sam enters the boy’s locker room, changes into his football uniform and puts on his captain’s band. He then enters the gymnasium and gathers his teammates.

Sam: Alright, boys, get in line.

The sophomores, juniors and seniors follow Sam’s orders with no problem, while the freshmen does it so nervously. One particular freshman catches Sam’s attention.

Sam: Hey, you.

The new player stands up straight and trembles.

New Player: Yes?!

Sam chuckles and puts his hand on the new player’s shoulder.

Sam: Hehe. Hey, don’t worry. I’m not the strict type. As captain, I usually attempt to be close to the team’s goalkeepers to have like a second-in-command, since they handle leading the defense line.

New Player: Well... I don’t think I can handle a leadership role yet...

Another goalkeeper, Mark Evans, stands beside Sam and encourages the new player.

Evan: Don’t worry. It takes time but once you have a practical example, you’ll know what to do, especially when the team needs you to be the best you can be.

Sam: Mark is right, you know.

The new goalkeeper looks at his superiors with a smile.

New Player: Thanks, sirs.

Sam: No prob. Say, what’s your name?

New Player: Dannielle Wallace. But you can call me, “Danny”.

Mark offers his hand.

Mark: Welcome to the team, Danny.

The two keepers shake their hands and soon, Sam gets to know the rest of his new teammates. After introductions, they start the freshmen tryouts and when it is Danny’s turn, Sam becomes the forward to test him.

Sam: Ready, Danny?

Danny: Yes, sir!

Sam dashes towards his junior and kicks the ball to the Danny’s right side. The new goalkeeper reacts and leaps to his right, but suddenly, the ball curves to his left; a feint done by Sam. Although Danny ends up surprised, his reflexes composed him. He quickly twists his body to face upwards and kicks the ball to the air. He lands on the ground but quickly stands up and jumps to catch the falling ball. Finally, he turns to Sam with a confident smirk. The captain and Mark walk up to Danny  while slowly clapping.

Mark: Oooh, boy. That has got to be the best tryout I have ever seen!

Sam: Exactly! Danny, congratulations. You’re on the team.

Danny smiles and jumps for joy before shaking the hands of his seniors and thanking them. Sam turns to the rest of the team.

Sam: Alright, tryouts are over. Let’s practice!

Team: YEAH!!

The Skylia Dragons start their practice for the upcoming Spring Football Tournaments.

Meanwhile in the Story & Film club, Karen is continuing her new story that she was working on the previous night when suddenly, the club door bursts open. Karen is startled and glares at her fellow club member, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth: Good news!

Karen: What, Eli?! What’s so good news that you have to scare me half to death?!

Elizabeth quickly bows repeatedly while apologizing. She then stands up straight and shows Karen a poster. It says, “Aryndelle City Spring Film Festival”, and Karen jumps for joy.

Karen: Yes! Eli, you wonderful girl!

Karen pulls Elizabeth into a tight hug while their literature teacher, Mister Alexander Cameron, peeks out from behind the book shelves.

Mr. Cameron: What is it, girls?

Elizabeth turns to her teacher and shows the poster while Karen looks at him with bright eyes and a grin.

Mr. Cameron: Ah, of course! We are definitely taking part in that.

Karen: Yes!

Mr. Cameron: We just need actors and crew. Maybe you can ask Kyle and Sam to join us, Karen.

Karen: Oh, absolutely!

At the mention of Kyle’s name, Elizabeth quickly blushes and hides her face with the poster. Karen doesn’t notice this and quickly goes over to a shelf of books.

Karen: Let’s see, which stories are we going to recreate as a film?

Mr. Cameron:  What about your best work so far?

Elizabeth’s blush quickly fades and she reveals herself under the poster with a smile.

Elizabeth: Yes! We should definitely film Endless Summer!

Karen grins and pulls out a large green book. She then sits by a nearby table and starts writing a screenplay of said book. Elizabeth and Mr. Cameron join her.

Meanwhile at the school’s gates, a redhead girl enters. She is reluctant and anxious yet she still keeps moving. As she walks in the hallways, she spots the school’s trophy booth. In it, she sees a picture of Kyle and Karen holding their respective artwork and book about latter’s story, Endless Summer. The girl’s reluctance and anxiety fades away as she blushes and smiles before quickly running around the halls, presumably looking for something, or someone.

Kyle makes his way towards the art club to meet his mentor and art teacher, Mister Pablo Ross. On his hands, he was playing Legend of Zelda on his Nintendo Switch. Even with his eyes glued to the console, he is still aware of his surroundings and knows where to go.

Gaming has always been a staple to my life. On my 5th birthday, my parents introduced me to the world of gaming when they bought me a Playstation 3. I had lots of fun, playing with Karen and Lucas. When Mom and Dad passed away, I grew more attached to video games because, just like my arts, they’re a reminder of them, the people who loved and raised me. I just can’t seem to move on like my siblings. People keep saying that there’s a ‘special someone’ out there for me, to break me free from this torment. But I keep doubting them... until today...

Suddenly, the same redhead girl from earlier stands in front of Kyle and happily points at him. Her green eyes light up at the sight of him.

Girl: There you are!

Kyle looks at the girl with confusion.

Kyle: Wha... huh...?

The girl then offers her hand for a shake.

Girl: I’m Vivian. And I am in love with your artworks!

Kyle is taken aback by the girl’s sudden introduction and affection towards his own work. He is left speechless with lots of things going on in his mind.

On the Spring of 2018, I met a girl, who instantly confessed to me. And soon after... for a brief moment...

Showtime

Dank musty, cigarette and smoke filled then rooms aroma to mask the shell of a bar it was on Tuesday nights. The alcoholic father avoiding his family and eyeing her better know as she. She came in frequently but never on schedule. She always went to the back and sat in the far side of the green fuzz pool table. Worn after years of it being used in the once popular stoneledge bar. Other patrons we're in frequent and Speratic across the dim emptying wasteland of a bar. The tender or owner was Lenny always smiling and waved to she but she never responded. The only noise was the fuzzy tv playing women vampire, an occasional creak of the floor lighting cigarettes and sips of whisky from the drinking father along with chatter in the gambling room where she always cleaned up. In the back were characters of varying new none of which now. Biker who sat across from she always displaying anger until big money. Son, bikers son whose only gambled because of his dad. Greyback, only person with more wins then she and him and she were good buddies. And an new guy suit he came in the back on a bet and was since addicted gbleing was his posing all the others but biker we're there by choice. She were her usual black jeans red shirt black boots and white tee cloak a cigarette contectedvto her hand and whisky at her seat she only smoked here. Grey had his blue jeans and graphic tee so did son. Suit and biker wore outfits to there names. And finally the feeble dealer of the gambling death he was febs bit she called him reaper. She only ever talked to greyback other then that she said word like call raise all in things like that. After the usual back and forward between biker and she, she finally said the phrase all in and biker wasn't gonna give up He to pulled the stupid and regretful move and lost the mini battle between them. Then the static on the tv said something about a fire in which she had to leave. She collected her money after beating biker a pair of ace to Royal Flush. Almost 5 thousand dollars in chips hustle I'm was she's business. She passed a 500 chip to greyback and said "her you go grey say hi to the kids From me" A slight nod was shown on greyback face they often shared the money made in we way. While walking out side the room a knife was thrown across she's face. She looked up to she a red faced biker yelling "YOU CHEATED GIVE ME MY CHIPS " she then pulled her hood down with ease displaying her platinum hair and green eyes she looked directly in bikers eyes and said "Now mate if you wish to excuse me of cheating and you honesty be live I did the scurry over here and facee like the American arse you are pretty accept that your a bleeding idiot and wait like a good doggy. Also it is a nice knife thanks for the gift now I gotta go see ya brain and do make she pops doesn't actually become a tomato. " She then left quickly after and threw her hood back up. The five men then look at each other greyback didn't care care about her talking as much as Suit who then said "to be honest I didn't know she could talk" "Fake British by the way she dis that to fuck with ya mate just like my american " Said greyback missing his chips and greying hair.

"Mr. Jegar Hound you have a college on line one " "Put her through" A dark haired mad said we were in the executive office of Hound enterprise in a large office very modern nothing like the bar the chairs were leader and everything had a place nothing was out of place and it all fit. Siting in far side behind a wooden desk and in front of a display case with books around it was Mr. Hound. He had black hair shaved on the sides grown out on top with blue eyes and was well built. He had a navy vest and a navy tie with navy pants with a white button under and black tech on his chair his call was patched to his janitor " Is it in place" Jager said "yep you have 10 minutes to do what ever ya want its on the boiler. " Beeeeppp. Hound placed the phone down and then paged the secretary to come in. "Yes" she said as she walled in the large office. "Nothing just I have a call in 5 mintues with lawyers are all my documents in place" He said " Yes I called the insurance company and you have the gold plan and are completely insured " She said while her cheeks got Rosey " Good good " He said not paying attention to her " Why did you get those plan is it because the target on you back sir" She said trying to get his attention " Yeah um the janitor just called said to ask if you could help him please do ok bye " She was going to say something be lore remembering that this is a powerful man and she could also leave work and sa she was helping. A she left quite like once gone hound pulled a book off the book case which opened a retnile scan which finally opened a very white room with guns all around the wall and suit in the middle. The suit was very stem punk Esque it had what looked like a pit boy and a pair of googles and a swanky steam punk suit and with all the gears probably protected him somehow he then grabbed a flamethrower off the wall and left the room he broke his computer and single camera I his office then walked up the stairs that were in a corner of his office. He then watched the clocked till the ten minutes we're up boom the bottom of the office exploded maintaining his footing he then set a stopwatch after 7 minutes and 37 seconds She showed up. ""Well he said "your a minute and 3 seconds slower what took you so long Daisy Frost" "I told you not to call me that Hound Dog" She said "Hey now if we won't called each other by our fake names then why not our real ones hi I'm Jegar hound and you" "Emily frost now do we actually have to fight or can we just do some stupid stuff and I save you " Hey no I did this for a fight and I won't take fall unless you fight me so compete trough a punch right her he road poking out his cheek she shot an ice beam at his face and punched him "how that for real fight " Emily started to fly off "hey hey hey now I am not satisfied and I can't be a " Villain unless I am so come on let me hit ya " *ugh ok but if I'd doesn't happen after one will leave you" He then got closer and said "now wait I want a fight so let's just have one that is just plan silly " * you want a fight" She said he then nodded like a sad puppy "fine" She said while kick ok ng his crotch "you asked for it" She then froze him into a circle and curled him into the vent when he defrosted she pushed him off and saved him without publistity.

The walk home was longer. Hound couldn't put his empire State farther from her apartment eventually she made it to her humble abode where grey back was her neighbor few plan tries later she left to sleep. while Jegar stayed in the hospital wonder why he put himself through the pain just to talk to little Daisy.

New Look Sabres: GM 6 - VGK - Vagas Nights

Whenever Rob Ray said Vegas it sounded like he switched out the first e for an a. “Vagas” is what sounded like. The weird thing is that Ray isn’t the only broadcaster I’ve heard do it. I thought it was a Canadian accent thing at first but RJ isn’t doing it. Hmm. Well I predict unlike the Golden Knights I haven’t heard that last of it. Vegas is all about predictions. You go into the casino predicting you’ll win money; otherwise you wouldn’t go in. Bovada, an internet gambling site, releases Stanley Cup Champions odds periodically. We all crowd around and read them treating them like everything else in Vegas: a prediction (They’re not predictions, they’re betting lines to get your money). All us hockey reporters, bloggers and fans make our predictions for the NHL season before it starts. I predicted Rasmus Dahlin would score a goal in the first three games. I was wrong: he didn’t score a goal until the fifth game.  Vegas was one team no one really had a solid prediction for this season. Their inaugural season last year broke all expectations and smashed records not even just in hockey but in American sports. They were in their first season. They were supposed to be trash and they made the Stanley Cup Final. Who knows what they could be this year? Then they had a trash start and the Buffalo Sabres beat them 4-2 last week. Unpredictable: that’s not how last night went. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? Okay, no more puns… this paragraph. Buffalo met the hungry Vegas that made the Cup Final last season and lost 4-1.

The First Period began with the blue and gold pushing pretty well. The forecheck was firing. They defended in the neutral zone. It looked like the transition was really rolling, once the puck got into the O-Zone the boys lined up to make a play. However as the period dragged on the Golden Knights began to hear the sound of their building and push back. Vegas was not ready to go flush in this season series; flush is when you lose, right? Someone who knows gambling tell me. Sam Reinhart and Rasmus Dahlin both let up a bit too much as Shea Theodore streaked into the zone and tucked one in five-hole on Carter Hutton. The coaching staff saved this one though and the off sides challenge was successful for once in our adult lives. The score was back to snake eyes. Giggles. The push from the home team didn’t let up and more and more the Sabres were pushed from the neutral zone to the defensive zone. Marco Scandella got penalized for a wonky holding call and Jonathan Marchessault scored on the ensuing powerplay. Buffalo got worked in the last minute of play letting shots galore and survived the opening 20 with only one goal against. I had high hopes the second would be different.

Unfortunately the only goal added in the middle frame was a shorthanded Vegas goal by Cody Eakin. Short-Handed goal…*shutters at flashbacks to the first ten games last season*… ugh. This goal made me consider how motivated I was to stay up late. This is New Look Sabres and I am far too obsessed with this team so no, I went through this whole period and the next one. Buffalo built up some fight this period even getting some decent shots. Jeff Skinner stood up for Casey Mittelstadt in a weird half fight that came after a halfway decent shot. Let’s just say when I had to break up a literal cat fight on the floor in front of my couch it felt like a reprieve from this game. Then again, Kyle Okposo went for a speed skate around the Knights zone at one point and fed Dahlin for a shot that just woke me up enough to carry me through the rest of this period. The third however was a merciless cup of zanex comparatively. Buffalo worsened their already shattered powerplay going 0-3. This makes the Sabres powerplay 4-18 so far this season. Right after I had formulated all the scenarios where the Sabres get a goal and pitch a comeback, it was only a two goal lead after all; William Karlsson tucked a quick draw shot off the faceoff behind Hutton. The rest of the period dragged on hard and Housley pulled Hutton with four and half minutes left in regulation but no; I’m not going into the Housley hate well today. 4-1 it ended, and let it be known I stayed up to the very end: through the late Sabres goal, the failed goaltender interference review and even the Vegas empty netter until 12:46 AM eastern time. I have a job. This hurt… but hey, at least Fleury didn’t get the shutout.

There was one moment in the first when Carter Hutton played the puck from behind the net to a defender in the riskiest way possible. Hutton wasn’t the biggest problem at all in this game and a few bad moves could be the theme of this game. I don’t know a position on this team that played consistently. At that point in the game it was indicative to this forward group that you can’t let all these shots or you’ll pay for it. Not only can Hutton not bail you out of all these situations, it’s becoming a trend to make him save 30-40 shots through 60 minutes. Hutton is not going to be able to keep saving that many shots; someone other than the Rasmusi (well Risto when he feels like it) and McCabe need to play defense. Rasmus Dahlin was beautiful except for that blown coverage on the first goal but Marco Scandella convinced me in this game that his pairing with Ristolainen minus well be called the pairing of ill-used defensemen. There will come a day Dahlin is moved up to the top pairing but it’s probably not soon and it’s probably not wise quite yet anyway. I know you’ve been ill used on the top pairing for years, Risto, but you guys got shore that up for now. It’s great to see Zach Bogosian back in a game for the first time since last winter but I didn’t notice him. Anyone trying to trade Tage Thompson needs to chill out. Matt Tennyson getting sent down wasn’t good enough for you? Everyone needs their pound of flesh, right? 12 different players with blocked shots not only means your forcing forwards into that position but that you’re playing a weak defensive strategy that depends on putting your body on the line! That shit ain’t going to last boys! And by shit I mean the limbs you’re sacrificing to the hockey gods with this defensive style.

This loss was not the loss I was hoping for on this road trip. The California triad ahead will not be a sweep and this would’ve been an awesome win to have. I digress; I suppose we’re still learning .500 is the beginning of good not a life jacket you need to stay near. Sabres fans including me have been more apoplectic about every little mistake through these first six games than any time in recent memory. It’s a good sign. We don’t have any recent frame of reference for a halfway decent team so this is rough to deal with mentally; especially with how hot and cold Buffalo has been so far. These three losses so far have not been easy ones either: each tanking the goal differential and driving the most faithful among us mad. We can allot blame, yes, some is due to Phil Housley, but perhaps the sparks of light we’re seeing are more important than the glaring mistakes that seem to drag down the losses and disappear in the wins. A wise coach once said practice your strengths because what makes you special is why you’re in the big dance. We should expect them to fix the errors like the middling d-zone coverage or the awful powerplay but unlike past seasons this team is more than their shortcomings. I said they won’t sweep California but would anyone be surprised if they win two of those games? If they’re still hot and cold in December it will be a problem but consistency will come. I have more faith in this team than any other in the Eichel Era and I have already forgotten what happened in Vagas: from here on out there Vagas.

I’ve gone a little long today so let’s put a bow on Vagas. I am beginning to see the response to these columns. I see a follow on twitter here, a follow on tumblr there, a reply that seems connected to a blog reference there. It’s cool just to know people other than my brother and dad are reading this. I hope it’s not like Dahlin on the top powerplay unit last night: short-lived. Share it around. When you do it, don’t tell them I am some insightful analyst. I can assure you I am no Hockey mind. However, I used the word apoplectic in this piece so I can’t be that stupid either, eh? Expect the games that start after 9 out on the West Coast to not get a New Look Sabres post until the following day. I love the Sabres but I like sleep quite a bit too. Let’s hope the Sabres give us things worth staying up for!

Writer Questionnaire

Part One: The Writer

·      Do you use a pen name?  Explain why you chose it. I use my initials: E. M. Otten. I do not particularly care for my first name, and that’s really the only reason I went with my initials instead.

·      Describe your writing process using just one word. Chaotic.

·      What genre do you write most often? YA Fantasy

·      Who is your favorite character that you’ve created so far? I really like Flip, a new character who will be introduced in Shift: Abomination. He’s a wild and fresh addition to the story. But, as far as characters I’ve already introduced, I am I big fan Adam Bliss (from Crooked). His story was really fun to tell and I love the friendship that blossoms between him and his partner in the book.

·      Are any of the characters you write based on people from your real life?  Explain. Not really. Certain mannerisms or things a character says are inspired by the people in my life, but I would feel too strange basing a character off of a close friend or family member.

·      What is the most important thing that becoming a writer has taught you? I’ve learned a lot about myself, who I am and how my experiences have shaped me. I’ve learned about a lot of mythology and lore than I never knew about before, so that makes research fun. And, of course, I’ve learned that this is what I want to be doing for the rest of my life; writing.

·      If you weren’t a writer, what would you be doing? Acting? Trying to direct? I don’t think I could dream of doing anything outside the entertainment industry.

·      How do you choose character names? Something I look up names by meaning if I want the character to have a certain type of symbolism. Other times I’ll hear a name or see a name and use it, and then look up hundreds of surnames and their meanings and say the names out loud to see if they fit together. It’s actually one of the hardest and most tedious parts of my process.

·      Do you prefer typing or hand writing? Typing, only because my brain works faster than my hand can write. Typing allows me to keep up with my thoughts faster. But there is something special about handwriting.

·      Describe your work space. I have a portrait of Deadpool next to my desk, and lots of trinkets to inspire me; jars full of pens and paintbrushes and twigs with fake birds on them… A lot of weird stuff.

 Part Two: Books

·      What is your favorite book? This is a hard one! There are so many. But the one I pick up the most is my collection of works by Edgar Allen Poe. I read a little from this book almost every day, and I try to create a visual story in my head as I read. It’s a sort of creativity and adaptation exercise for me that freshens up the jumbled thoughts already in my head

·      Who is your favorite author? James Patterson is the author I own the most books by. But I’m not sure I’m ready to clai a favorite author just yet.

·      Do you remember the first book you read that meant something to you?  Explain. When the Wind Blows, by James Patterson, was given to me by my dad when I was young, and I just remember feeling so connected to the character of Max. (She was like eleven years old, her physical description matched mine, she had a heart of gold and a sarcastic defense system that worked quite well.) That book drew me into a whole new world of fiction and opened me up to new book genres.

·      What genre do you read most often? YA Fiction, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Mystery.

·      Who are your favorite characters from a book?  Why? One of my all-time favorite novel characters is Will Herondale of Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices series. He’s funny, handsome, and charismatic, but he’s also kind of an asshole at first. His journey is one I’ll never forget.

·      Who are your favorite villains/anti-heroes in a book?  Why? I don’t think I need to explain why Severus Snape of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series is one of my absolute favorite novel anti-heroes.

·      Do you remember the first book that made you cry?  Explain. Ugh. I read The Kite Runner in school and it really wrecked me. I remember sitting in the quiet classroom, trying my best not to sob, but it was too much. That book is rough.

·      Do you have a “guilty pleasure” book or series?  Explain. Not really. I display all my favorite books with pride! I do get shit from my friends sometimes about the abundance of YA vampire fiction that lines my shelves, but hey, everyone has their own thing, right?!

·      What’s your favorite novel trope? I love when the hero of a story comes from a small town or something like that. Plain, un-special protagonist somehow discovers they have what it takes to save the world.

 Part Three: Film

·      Does film sometimes inspire your writing? Yes! Sometimes it helps me break free from bouts of writer’s block.

·      What is your favorite film genre?  Why? I love thrillers and horror, but I also adore comedy. The best for me is when a movie contains both terrifying suspense and witty, well-timed comedy.

·      List three to five of your favorite films. Scream; Fight Club; For a Good Time, Call; Choke; Stuck in Love.

·      Who is your favorite character from a film?  Why? This is a hard question to answer. But the first character that I thought of was Fred in Gia Coppola’s Palo Alto.  There’s just something about Fred that makes him interesting and intriguing and you want to know more. He’s totally nuts, and clearly has some deep issues, but his issues are never really explored and his insane behavior serves as a really unique source of mystery and intensity for this otherwise pretty calm film.

·      What’s your favorite film trope? Has to be the old horror trope when playing “guess the killer” and it ends up being the guy who they said in the film was definitely not the killer.

·      Who are your favorite villains/anti-heroes in film?  Why? I will always, always have a place in my heart for Billy Loomis and Stu Macher of the first Scream film. First of all, two killers? That was a big mind-f**k for me as a kid. And the way these characters are portrayed is just perfect.

·      If you had to write the reboot for any film, what would you choose and why? I suppose if I had to, I would choose something really, really old but not all that popular. There’s this old Martin & Lewis film, At War with the Army that I have loved since I was a kid, and while I don’t usually like “war movies,” anyone who’s seen this knows it’s a lot different. So if I HAD to do a reboot, I would want to bring the genius of Martin & Lewis into the modern era and introduce younger people to the classic comedy I grew up with.

 Part Four: Television

·      What television genre do you watch the most?  Why? Fantasy, Drama, & Comedy.

·      Do you have a favorite television show?  If so, what is it, and why? I have a lot of favorite TV shows, but if I had to choose one I’d have to go with American Horror Story. There’s just nothing like it out there and every season is fresh; new characters, new story, new shocking scares.

·      Who are your favorite fictional television characters?  Why? I really love the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. There’s nothing more to say.

·      What’s your favorite TV trope? The love triangle, of course!

·      Is there a character death/departure that still haunts you? Jon Snow, of Game of Thrones; even though he ended up coming back to life, it was the TV death that rocked my world. I think my neighbors probably thought someone was actually dying inside my house the night I watched that episode. I screamed, I cried, I threw things.

·      Who are your favorite television villains or anti-heroes?  Why? The Vampire Diaries had a few anti-heroes and villains that really stuck with me. Klaus Mikaelson and his family of Original vampires struck fear and worry into viewers for multiple seasons. They were so well created, and their story was so intricate, that they got their own spin-off show! Kai Parker was another incredible villain on the show; a sociopath with the ability to absorb magic from others and use it against them. He was a true baddie, with no weaknesses and nothing to lose.

·      If you had to write a reboot of a television series that was on air the year you were born, what would you choose and why? Ha! I was born in 1989 and most of the shows on TV back then were cheesy family sitcoms. However, Cheers was also on air, which is an incredibly underrated classic coke-bottle show that I love and adore. I’ve always wanted to create a new, modernized version of Cheers, and maybe someday I will.

·      What’s your go-to series to binge watch? Usually I’ll choose a comedy series or something I have watched before, because chances are, if I’m bingeing, it’s because I’m sick or hungover or something and I’ll definitely fall asleep. That being said, I usually go for something funny like Always Sunny, Parks & Rec, How I Met Your Mother, or 30 Rock. If I’m in more of a drama mood, I’ll stick to my old favorites like Dawson’s Creek, The O.C., The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Being Human, Teen Wolf, or Buffy.

5-2 Regulation Loss

We’re all resigned to it now aren’t we? This brutally disappointing November has made us all accept, barring a wicked trade or a Yuletide comeback, that this season will probably be another stinker. Sure, they’re still only four points back of a playoff spot but we’ve all seen this show before haven’t we? It’s now looking like a decent chance the Sabres will have a two-win November… like March… ugh. I’m sorry, I don’t got a rant in me. I’m not upset, I’m just disappointed. How do you follow a sports team you know is going to suck? Other than the tank thing which I know I can’t do; you normally pick a player or two and ride them like you’re the biggest One Direction fan in your High School. I went off the deep end after this game last night. Someone tweeted Carter Hutton isn’t looking good, I thought back to Linus Ullmark’s god-like performance Sunday night and went into full stan-account mode. I’m finding all the gifs I can and dusting off my favorite hot take: Linus Ullmark is the best goalie in the organization. That’s right move over UPL and your fake hips! Move over Carter “I looked good because I was Pekka Rinne’s backup on a fun playoff run” Hutton! The revolution continues! Lord knows this organization is going to go on platooning them because it’s law apparently that this club cannot have fun and or a smart deployment strategy. Are we in hell? Like Donald Trump is President but not only that but he’s been all but proven guilty of treasonous bribery and nobody cares. Sorry, no need to get political but this world kinda feels like the upside down these days. Botterill hasn’t pulled the trigger on the trade we’ve been waiting for since July and the coach we all loved until Halloween decided to call Phil Housley for some deployment advice. I could just be grumpy because those Buffalo Wings from Sunday night wreaked havoc coming out the other end during this game. Saying that might be worse than going political. Hmm. I guess we should talk about the game now.

I missed a few things last game because… well to be very frank I’m not watching these games. I’m going to the Calgary game tomorrow and that will be the first game I sit through the entirety of since that Isles 1-0 snooze fest. Brandon Montour as a forward… *Very RJ voice* WOW! Evan Rodrigues injured in the first play of the game further deepening a forward injury crisis when the team has already fallen behind in the standings? *Even more RJ voice* They’re bad, SCARY BAD! So nobody would have been shocked if you told them the Sabres were going to lose this game. They’ve looked like garbage and Tampa is one of the better teams of the cap era. However this game was looking for ways to kick us in the balls. Andrey Palat hardly has to work to get a defensive zone turnover out of the visitors and he gets it to Nikita Kucherov who puts in… 13 seconds into this game. I don’t know what your game day habits are but my dad would still be on the concourse buying beer. I just ran out of money for the streaming service I got Sabres games on, so I’ve been working with the illegal streams reddit and that nasty underbelly normally causes me to not get my eyes on the game for the first 2-5 minutes. I would have missed that goal… you know, if I was watching. But as I said, this game, at least in the first period was looking creative ways to hurt our genitals. So after an early Tampa goal how do you do that? How about an Eichel to Olofsson to Sam Reinhart goal 3:40 in to even it up at 1? Sure! It was fun little goal. The cute top line we’re stuck with made a full neutral zone transition as the nerds say and Sam Reinhart took a shot that probably would have gone wide had Andrei Vasilevskiy’s pad not redirected it in. We’ve seen this show before though. With that tie the most I could muster was a solid Larry David “Meh”. This club can’t win unless it throws everything, and the kitchen sink out the door these days.

Buffalo didn’t look particularly awful in this game either. They outshot Tampa 27-14 in the first two periods. For a minute they wanted this game. But just like we’ve seen over and over this month, something just doesn’t connect, and they can’t get it going. Last night however, they had one more trick up their sleeves before the Bolts took the game away. Jimmy Vesey is the beneficiary of a blueline giveaway and takes it all the way home for the 2-1 Sabres goal! When I saw Jimmy Vesey unassisted I was already shocked but a breakaway against the Bolts? This stuff is getting weird now. Rasmus Asplund, now a fulltime Sabre because of the forward plague going on, got to Vesey first after the goal and you can’t see his mouth, but you know he was saying “Holy Shit, if you scored I can totally score!” Sorry, fourteenth Rasmus, you would not score in this game. But before we dive headlong into the negatives, and you know there is a lot of them, let’s sneak in some happy thoughts for your shortened work week. Victor Olofsson now has a four-game point streak with the Reinhart assist. Neat, right? In this economy!? A point streak during this stretch! There is more: Jack Eichel is now on a six-game point streak with six goals and five assists in that stretch. That’s the most points of any player on this team as if I needed to tell you that. I’m going to write a children’s book called Jack and Linus. It will be all about if you only have two friends in the world, you have to love them and treat them with respect. You have to defend them from the suburban hockey dads but also the stat geeks who will tell you Ullmark isn’t the best goalie in the organization. Yes, if this season is going to get bad I’m going to become a stan for Jack and Linus. I need something! I am not going to go to the Rochester Americans like I did in 2017-2018; they need to win a playoff game before I’m going to trust them with my heart again! Well after 2-1 we go headfirst into the rout.

First it was Mikhail Sergachev, the kid we passed on for Alex Nylander, getting a powerplay goal for the Lightning. Anthony Sciandra @SciandraSports brought up a devastating point: in November the Sabres have given up more goals on the powerplay than they’ve scored. They’re now 1-31 on the man advantage. That is the kind of stat where you can envision the Jennifer Lawrence Yikes gif as soon as you hear it. Are you ready? It. Gets. Worse! Yanni Gourde scores because to make it 3-2 Bolts and shortly thereafter this game gives us its hardest and most painful shot to the reproductive organs: the Sabres on the powerplay and Rasmus Dahlin drops the puck back before getting drilled in the face by Alex Cernak. When I say drilled, I mean the elbow was used as the drill head. Dahlin didn’t see it coming and falls to the ice. He did not return to the game. The zebras didn’t call it because of course they didn’t, this is the NHL! Cernak has a hearing but you and I both know this is a junk league, right? In a league where Robert Bortuzzo gets a four-game suspension for trying to murder Victor Arvidsson you know Cernak isn’t going to regret that hit. I don’t often use the term chicken shit but that was chicken shit. Ralph Krueger confirmed it was concussion in the postgame and say what you will about Krueger’s patience and hospitable manor, I would have preferred some anger over saying its in the league’s hands. I know you’ve been in England for a hot minute but over here we shit in the league’s mouth every chance we get. They deserve it. And the Sabres deserved the 5-2 loss that followed after surrendering in the third period. There was a 6-2 goal called back, but I think the game was over at that point.

How long am I going to be a Stan account? Well… if they lose to Calgary I am 100% going to stay this way into December. With a home-and-home series with the reborn Toronto Maple Leafs I’m going to need the armor of my sweet boys. Like, comment and share this blog if you need that armor as well. I think I’m going to post the one about Purgatory. That topic feels somewhat appropriate in a Sabres context right now as well, eh? Well I hope they don’t suck against Calgary. We’ll see!
