For the ask game: do your durge and gortash coordinate clothes?

I wanted to get at this when I had time cause it's a bit of a long multifaceted answer that I have spent way too long contemplating because im obsessed with fashion. I'll include some art and photos because I'm extra. but the short answer is yes.

Gortash is prone to wearing luxury Baldurian fashions in black and red with gold accents.

Achaia wears the same red and golds but is more prone to wearing white before he and Gortash become an item, and he switches to black afterwards. His fashion however is very much loose flowing art silks, folded in a dhoti style for his pants, if he wears a shirt it's a kurta style tunic. He'll wear sarees and dresses, anything flowy that's beautiful when he's moving around.

Gortash will occasionally add a long silk shawl in a matching color to his own outfits to tie their looks together. And once in a while Gortash can get Achaia in a high collared Baldurian jacket.

After the events of the game if he rejects Bhaal and destroys the brain, Achaia swaps his red primary color for a fuschia to match his new eyes, which are orchid pink, tho he keeps the golds and blacks to match Gortash(who has to be alive or Achaia takes control of the brain to go get his man, at which point he keeps the reds regardless)

After he rejects Bhaal Achaia does have a bit of a fashion crisis because he sees a lot of his clothing tying him to much to a man he can't remember being but his fashion preferences win out eventually. Also Gortash loves the easy access the folded silk pants give him.

I like to think that by the time Achaia is dressing in the pinks and fuschia's that match his eyes, Gortash is also replacing the reds in his own outfits so they match.

Hunter x Hunter: Shalnark kurta theory part 2 i think

so as far as kurta attire goes we have some dubiously canon examples from the phantom rogue movie/volume 0 of hxh and of course kurapika himself.

and my questions are: are the robes shalnark wears actually kurtan and if so, what do the symbols mean?

here's a wide shot we get

i am absolutely perplexed as to what each robe means.

there are a couple of repeating patterns on each style of robe. the swirlies seem to be the most prominant and at first i thought it was significant of lineage. like the swirlies (circled in red) are one family and then the circle patterns (circled in blue) are another family and the multicolored stripes (circled in yellow) are another etc etc.

but the ones with the pointy symbols (green arrows) caught my eye because those are the same types of symbols kurapika's yorknew fit had. so for that at least i believe are kurtan battle robes.

so by that logic i can imagine that the rest of the patterns correlate with different roles in the tribe, with families usually occupying the same role so therefore wearing similar patterns on their clothes.

as for the style of clothing. i think that's entirely arbitrary. there is zero correlation to who wears what style no matter how i tried to slice it.

but for shalnark's style specifically.

this is a fit we see him rock in one of the promotional posters for the phantom rogue. so it is just as dubiously canon as the rest of the kurtan attire.

of the wide shot, i can pick out 3 that have a similar style.

so phantom rouge shal definitely fits the kurtan style with the exception of the pattern. what does the pattern actually mean? who the fuck knows but i have a theory.

so the kurtan shalnark theory gets fucking wild. because consider this: after the clan is massacred, shalnark believes he is the only one left. and he is proud of that fact because now he lives on as the legacy that the kurta clan would willingly push their own away. and as a child, he was given kurtan exile robes, marked with those two white stripes no matter what combination of colors were used for the rest of the tunic.

like he is still very kurtan: stubborn in his beliefs, holds grudges like no one's business and fiercely loyal. But applied differently.

This petty mf, either during or after the massacre, finds a stash of these exile robes and saves them for when he grows into them. he burns the rest. he's an exile and he's proud of it because that is what they did to him and probably several other mixed blood kurtans sent to die.

he was lucky, meteor city turned out to be a loving place where he found friends and made a new family.

the kurta abandoned him. so their legacy will die with him, the last exiled kurtan.

She is about to tear her dupatta to tie it across your wound. Your hand immediately holds her wrist, and you feel electricity jolt in your fingers. "Itna sundar dupatta kharab mat karo. Ghar idhar paas hai. Just help me to reach my gate, please."

Shaking her head, she tears her dupatta while you let out a gasp. "You are bleeding too much, besides I can always buy a new dupatta." She finally looks up at you and smiles. That's when you get a clear picture of her face.

Doe eyes lightly lined with kajal, a small bindi right between her eyebrows, and a small stone nath on her nose. She looks heavenly! You think how in front of such a beautiful girl, you look dust laden after falling off your bicycle.

The Almost Wedding (Ch.I)

Arjun was this close to murdering someone.

More specifically, he was close to grabbing his dear darling sister by her perfectly styled hair and sticking her neck onto a guillotine. At least then she would shut up and stop bothering him.

"Arjun I swear," Tanishka said for maybe the millionth time in the last two hours, "you had better be on your best behaviour, I won't have you- I don't know- flirting with anyone or something even stupider—"

"Aga majhi bai, I got it," he finally snapped, smacking his palms together in a sarcastic namaskar, making her click her jaw shut. "I'll be quiet the entire time. And Tai, why would I flirt with some random boy? He's probably homophobic, anyway."

Her hazel eyes narrowed in a glare, and he returned it with a flat look before turning around to look in the mirror, running his hands through his hair to separate the wavy black strands and checking his subtle eye makeup again. It looked good— just a little gold glitter on the lid and a smudge of kajal on the lower lash line, bringing out the soft golden specks in his eyes. His lip gloss was transparent, but it was enough to make his Cupid’s bow pop.

Tanishka, finally realising she was being ignored, huffed and strode away. Arjun snickered as the sound of her paayal grew fainter and fainter, then went back to applying concealer. College was a harrowing experience, especially for post graduate medical students, and Arjun was not getting enough sleep. At least the concealer helped hide the designer under-eye bags.

"ARJUN!"

He jerked in surprise, and glared at the open door of his room, cursing under his breath. He almost messed up his makeup, dammit!

"EK MINUTE ALO," he yelled back, twisting his concealer tube shut and throwing it onto the dresser, then slipped out into the hallway.

He rushed down the set of staircases three steps at a time, tugging at his collar and adjusting his jeans so the multi-coloured rhinestones on the back pockets arranged in the bi flag were visible.

He had chosen the basic white shirt and baggy jeans on purpose, because while the rest of the family was wearing traditional clothing, he did not have a single kurta to his name and he had been too busy with his studies to go out and buy one. He often thought he had made a mistake by saying he wanted to become a doctor. He really should have followed Krushna into the modelling industry. The Kulkarni family had agreed to a rendezvous to decide if their youngest was compatible with Tanishka, and Arjun’s mother had been going crazy setting the house to rights and getting the servants to clean out every single room of the mansion. “Hi, Aai,” he said, leaning down to press a kiss to his mother’s temple, and grinned when he received the weird combination of a harried glare and a soft pat to his cheek.

The kitchen— a large white tiled room with two island counters and a whole baking station that was actually used for making festival faraal and mithai rather than cakes and pastries— had been overtaken by the two workers who were cooking up a storm for the festival, and Arjun sniffed appreciatively at a container filled with saffron milk, only to be pushed away by Aai.

“Nahi, Arjunie,” she said sternly. “This is for the guests, you can have as much as you’d like afterwards.”

Before he could reply, the bell rang.

His mother rose to her feet and glided out of the room, the skirts of her baby blue Anarkali flaring out behind her, and a minute later Arjun heard the front door open and the muffled sounds of greetings from the receiving hall. He exchanged a grimace with Chinu Maushi, and exhaled through his nose. She poked him in the back to make him straighten his posture to appear at least halfway polite, and beckoned him to follow her to the living room.

He took a stand next to one of the sofas and stuck his tongue out at Tanishka, just as Aai walked in with the guests.

Four people— siblings, because the parents had passed away. They walked in behind his mother, who had her socialite smile pasted on her beautiful face, and Arjun's breath caught.

All of them were utterly, absolutely gorgeous.

The two women and two men were wearing well fitted casual ethnic clothes, with the older man and woman dressed in identical royal purple kurta and trouser sets with delicate silver embroidery at the collar, and the younger two dressed in white with purple embroidery. She winked at the last word, and the siblings let out identical amiable laughs. Charuta reached forward and picked a banana chip off one of the plates and popped it into her mouth, pretty glossy lips twisting into a pout as she crunched the thing between her teeth. Arjun forcefully dragged his eyes away from the visual and focused on Chandan, who had begun speaking.

"How are we to do this, then?"

He had a curious accent— somewhere between Indian and French, Arjun realised a second later. He exchanged a look with Chinu Maushi, who smirked at him like she knew exactly what was going through his mind. He turned away without giving her the honour of a reply, but he could feel his cheeks heat up. Thank the Gods for his dark complexion that made it difficult for his blush to be visible, or she would never let him live it down.

"How about you ask first?" Lavanya suggested. "Tanishka asks the next question. Both of you have to answer all the questions posed."

Chandan raised a perfectly sculpted eyebrow at Chaitanya, who somehow managed to make his shrug look elegant. Arjun honestly had no idea whether to be jealous of or attracted to the man. Both men.

"I don't mind if you don’t," he answered, in the same hot accent as his older brother, and Tanishka nodded.

"What are you doing, currently?" he asked, tongue curling deliciously over his R's. Arjun had to forcefully drag his eyes away from that pretty mouth. Chinu Maushi gave him a significant look behind his mother's back that said he needed to stop, and he exhaled with a shake of his head— drop it. Thankfully, she did, but not before she gave him another look. Arjun rolled his eyes went back to the Q&A.

"I'm working as a freelance influencer and content creator as of now," Tanishka replied. “I won’t be signing onto Aai’s company, but hopefully in a few years I’ll take up a contract with a reputable agency as an actress. What about you?”

“Ah, I’m hoping to continue on to a Ph.D,” he said, and picked up his glass of panha to take a sip. “What about you? Are you planning on getting another degree or—”

“On, no,” Tanishka replied, shaking her head so her curls bounced just enough to attract attention. “I have a masters, and that’s enough for me. Frankly, I’ve had enough of being yelled at by professors.” She chuckled faintly as if letting the others in on a joke, and Arjun stifled a snicker when Chaitanya echoed the sound, eyes never leaving his sister’s pretty face.

Sypnosis: After many years of being a hunter, MC decided to settle down and have a life of her own. While rummaging through her room, she discovered a particular picture that unlocked a memory of the past.

You are busy sorting out things inside your large room. Getting out the unneeded items, relocating some stuff, and safekeeping important ones. As you got out something from a box, you found a picture frame with a familiar picture of your younger self and a blonde man.

"I never knew that it was hidden here..." You muttered as you grabbed the picture and pulled it out of the box. You looked at the picture - It was you in your teenage self and a familiar man. She [h/l] [h/c] hair and [e/c] like yours today, though, you grew taller after all those years. She wore a [f/c] hoodie jacket, [2nd f/c] plaid shirt that reaches her knee, and [3rd f/c] Chinese flats. Your younger self made a peace sign with her right hand while the other clinging to the man.

"Who...is he?" You asked yourself after seeing the male your younger self was clinging to. He was smiling while looking at her, a blush visible on his features. He had medium blonde hair with dark grey eyes.  He wears a blue tabard decorated with a red hem and a white full-body training suit underneath.  His shoes are periwinkle Chinese-style flats.

You held the picture frame and stared at it for a moment, trying to remember everything that is relevant to the picture. After all, after you become a (kind of hunter), you left to achieve your dreams. Then, when you become a (kind of hunter), you were very busy and have many things to do, forgetting all that has passed. Unconsciously, your eyes started to tear up and a small tear dropped down to the picture. After seeing those tears, your head started to ache and something triggers your memory.

~Flashback "Hey, Kurapika!" You called the blonde sitting on a bench, reading a book. He looked up from the book and then at you. You smiled while walking towards him. "Let's take a picture!" You declared enthusiastically, eyes brimming with happiness. "Sure" He responded then smiled. He returned the book inside his sling bag, stood up from his seat then walked with you. You giggled while dragging his with you. "Okay! Stand still!" You instructed as he stood in front of the male photo taker. You stood on his right, your right hand making a peace sign while the other clinging to Kurapika's arms. Kurapika blushed and then smiled at you. "Okay, on the count of three. One, two, three!" The male said, capturing the picture. After the picture taking, you gave Kurapika a copy of the photo and held yours. "[Name], are you okay?" The Kurta asked, noticing that you kept staring at the picture. "Huh? Oh, sorry..." You snapped back to reality and then looked at him with a sad smile. "Is something wrong?" He asked worried, placing a hand on your shoulder. "No... It's just..." You shook your head as you held the picture tightly, almost crippling it. "It's just what?" He asked. "I planned that after I passed the exam, I will train and study to fulfill my dreams of becoming a (kind of hunter). And because of the unlikely turn of events, I didn't expect to befriend you" You answered honestly, looking at Kurapika for his reaction. He seems to be shocked at your response and you could feel really guilty about it. You looked down to hide your incoming tears. "I-I... I'm sorry..." Your voice cracked as you placed your hand on your face, covering your eyes. Kurapika didn't hesitate to comfort you as he wrapped his arms around you, resting his chin on your head. "It's alright, [Name]. I understand. You wanted to fulfill your dreams, and I don't want to hinder you from achieving that. It's alright, we have to go our separate ways someday..." He told you in a comforting way, tracing circles on your back to calm you down and slowly rubbing your [h/c] hair. "I'm sorry again..." You repeated as you rose your head, looking up to meet his charcoal eyes with your teary [e/c] ones. "Don't be. It's not your fault. And I promise that someday, we will be reunited once again. And when that happens, I will never let you go again" He smiled a heart-warming smile, the one that could melt your heart. You felt your cheeks heat up and your heart beats fast. "Thank you, Kurapika..." You whispered, resting your head on his chest and closing your eyes. "It's no problem..." He replied. ~End of Flashback

You held the picture frame unto your chest as you closed your eyes and cried, remembering how much you missed Kurapika. It's been several years since you and Kurapika separated to fulfill your dreams. You've already lost the connection and are so busy with your job that old memories are blocked and sealed away. " I missed him so much..." You uttered while sobbing lowly in your room.

After a while, there's a knock on the door downstairs. You stopped yourself from crying and wiped away the tears. "Coming!" You shouted then returned the picture back in the box. "That's probably the client..." You muttered to yourself as you fixed yourself before meeting the person.

"I'm sorry I took so long..." You said while opening the door, your voice trailing as eyes landed on a handsome blonde Kurta. Your eyes widened at the sight, you actually cannot believe that he is here/

"Long time no see, [Name]" Kurapika smiled at you brightly. You could feel yourself heat up as a blush crept to your cheeks. "Kurapika..." You cracked, trying your best not to cry in front of him. "I can't believe you're actually here," You said, covering your mouth with both hands, eyes teary.

"Well, I'm here now" He chuckled. Now you can't contain your happiness anymore. You hugged him tightly, resting your head on the crook of his neck. Eyes closed as you cried on his back. Kurapika was surprised by your sudden actions, he stood there frozen with wide eyes.

"I missed you... I missed you so much!" You said, hugging him tighter. After you said that, Kurapika's eyes softened then hugged you back. "Me too..." He said, closing his eyes and resting his head on yours. "I promised, right? That I'll never let you go once I find you again" He whispered in your ear.

dissection of Kurapika’s design and it’s desi influence. a Kurta is a style of shirt in southeast asia, and so connecting his own clothing to what his clan was named after was a really fascinating thing to do, and there were far more connections than i thought there would be!
