Don't give up
Writing is like being in a relationship. You’ll have moments of pure joy, and then there are days where you just stare at the page and wonder, 'Do I even know you anymore?' But don’t give up. Stick with your story, even if it feels like it’s ghosting you. It’s probably just off plotting something brilliant without you.

To make a long story short... editors save the day with a red pen! ✍️😂 Who else loves (or fears) the editing process?

Anyone else have their characters completely take the wheel and drive the story into chaos? Like, you think you're in control, right? You've got the plot, the outline... you start with the first sentence, and then, BAM, your characters decide they're doing their own thing. Before you know it, they're swerving into an electrical fence, and you're just there, watching in disbelief as they wreck your plans.
But that’s what I love about writing. The unpredictability. The chaos. Sometimes the story has a mind of its own, and we just have to hold on for the ride
"you're the writer, you control how the story goes" no not really. i wrote the first sentence and then my characters said "WE WILL TAKE IT FROM HERE" and promptly swerved into an electrical fence.

A) It’s the technical bits of writing that go over my head—adjective choice, sentence structure, word selection, and tone.
I mean, I get writing but editing? That’s just a mean beast.
Any ideas to repair this ruined book? Every editor I know will shut the door on my face as it is😭
B) Of course! But hang on... I just need a whiteboard, some markers... and my trusty point-and-shoot camera. Okay, to start...

Editing: The Love-Hate Saga
Editing is like looking at your reflection in a spoon: everything feels warped, and you start questioning your life choices. Step 1: Open the document. Step 2: Spot a typo. Feel smug fixing it. Step 3: Realize the entire sentence doesn’t make sense. Rewrite. Step 4: Stare blankly at the paragraph you once loved, wondering if you were sleep-deprived when you wrote it. ✨Step 5: Remove five words. Add ten more. Repeat until delirium sets in.
Editing: where progress is 20% actual improvements and 80% realizing your main character said “I shrugged” 47 times.

Autumn dialogue tip: If your characters are talking like they’ve wandered out of a pumpkin-spiced Shakespearean drama, go back and let them sound like real people again.

I love commas. Was once described as “comma crazy” by a beloved English teacher who was absolutely, positively, irrevocably...correct. Commas separate and divide but not in an inequality spreading way, rather with the intent to highlight and string together ideas that may be similar or dissimilar. In this way, I see commas as true pioneers of change; they embrace all walks of words. And, they don’t need the fancy top hats of semicolons ( ; ) to do it. Compared with the bottom comma of a semicolon, stand alone commas are individualists with peaceful yet activist tendencies; they do not abruptly signal a transition due to that menacing, hovering period! Setting clear bias aside, I would proclaim, even as a self-professed comma-ist, that semicolons have the *potential to serve as equalists because they too give equal respect to two parts of a whole - the whole being a sentence; however, those two otherwise independent parts have to be related in thought, which while on the topic of equality, is very pro-equality, but there also lies power in unifying differences, and that, humans of the planet, is where the powerful comma comes in (total tally of commas used in that super long run-on sentence...a whopping 10!).
I will close with my final thoughts on commas (plural here to give respect to all individual commas who together form a larger existence of commas under the aptly named general category: comma).
An ode ;
Oh, the, pure, delight of, separating thoughts, and words, with, a bunch, of, commas, (end comma here disguised as a period)
Okay maybe there is such a thing as being comma crazy...
