Why I won’t buy, read, or review “The Green Mysteries” by Daniel Schulke

Three Hands Press has become an untrustworthy print on demand grift and Daniel Schulke, its sole proprietor, is as equally terrible at indie publishing as he is at writing intelligible books. A lot of people don’t know Daniel Schulke is the only person behind Xoanon and Three Hands Press. There’s no companies, no offices, no warehouses, no employees, and no cultus sabbati group, it’s literally just a dude. Despite claiming it was founded in 1992, Xoanon didn’t exist until post 2000 and it was just Chumbley self-publishing. After his death Schulke used it for self-publishing. Despite claiming it was founded in 2003, Three Hands Press was founded after Chumbley’s death in 2004 with its first book not published until 2009. I doubt Chumbley was ever involved. The press ran smoothly for a few years until Michael Howard (the anonymous unnamed partner who was the money and the publishing expert) died in 2015 and then it started to fall apart. Chumbley and Schulke are windy trash bags and always were. Stop listening to traditional witch influencers who make you think you have to have certain authors on your shelf to be legit. Neither has given anything back to the community. They never created community. Exclusion was their marketing ploy and it worked. Everyone wants into the exclusive club. It was always about book sales and the email list. Just an occult bro mlm. And y’all fell for it. Eight years to publish just one book and y’all still kissing Schulke’s ass after he spent all the preorder money, wouldn’t answer emails or give refunds, and then the book sucks? Insane.

Doctor Who: The Face of Evil

I rewatched this 1977 serial on 13 March 2023. It’s the first of three scripts for Doctor Who by Blake’s Seven and Star Cops stalwart Chris Boucher. 

We welcome Louise Jameson as Leela, who is in the first scene on trial for blaspheming against a “god” named Xoanon. She’s banished from the tribe of the Sevateem, who all wear very little. It’s been a while since Doctor Who had a group of alien humanoids not wearing terribly much… Sadly, in this it's to denote their "savagery".

The Doctor arrives, and talks to the camera. He is not in Hyde Park — it’s another alien forest that’s well-realised. He meets Leela who refers to him as the evil one, which is a neat introduction to the mystery. Then we see the Sevateem priest Neeva talking to Xoanon, who sounds awfully like the Doctor. The Doctor is captured by the Sevateem and our hero quickly works out what’s probably happened. Fortunately, Leela is able to rescue him… and he tells her off for killing people. The “no more janis thorns” will echo later with “no more nitro 9”…

It’s a fun tale, with some great moments and interesting ideas. Some ideas we’ve encountered before — invisible monsters, computers with mental health problems, the Doctor forced to fix problems from previous visits, and questioning eugenics — but I think they work quite well in this.

My own for fun fleshing out of the idea posited by Jonathan Morris that the other voices Xoanon adopts in the Face of Evil are forgotten incarnations plucked from the Doctor's subconscious.

Specifically played by Pamela Salem, Rob Edwards, Anthony Frieze and Roy Herrick.

The First Xoanon Doctor (Pamela Salem)

This incarnation was posted on Earth by her request, as part of the Time Lords solidifying of the Web of Time as history, arriving in the era of the First World War. Upbeat and playful, she had a knack for outmanoeuvring her opponents even in spite of the cultural pushback against the form this incarnation took. She also often came across as anachronistic due to a lack of understanding of the culture of the era of this planet that she was assigned to. She, however, was occasionally prone to seeing humans more as interesting specimens than individuals in their own right.

The Second Xoanon Doctor (Rob Edwards)

Coming across as an eccentric but kindly Professor-like figure, wearing a scruffier version of a formal outfit. This incarnation took up teaching on Earth. He was heavily interested in the idea of luck as an external force and wore a clover on his lapel to represent that. He was prone to meddling in events outside his purview, but only subtly, within his remit as an agent of the Time Lords and thus often employed luck or what appeared to be luck as a ‘weapon’ of sorts in said situations, despite his pleasant exterior he was capable of doing almost anything if he thought it would benefit the ‘greater good’. He was the first incarnation to meet the Abbot.

The Third Xoanon Doctor (Anthony Frieze)

This incarnation lived for a long time, aging up from a child to an adult. He spent a lot of his time on Gallifrey, getting involved in the internal politics of the planet as an advocate for the Non-Intervention policy. He regretted the meddling his immediate predecessor was prone to, though he still returned to Earth to observe the planet and would occasionally intervene if he found a situation significant enough to warrant it. He was brash and abrasive, and had a superiority complex, but still was a kind-hearted person when the chips were down. He met his end in service to Gallifrey in the midst of a Time War.

The Fourth Xoanon Doctor (Roy Herrick)

A calmer, younger, mellower incarnation. This Doctor prided himself on his moral compass, whilst he still acted as an agent for the Time Lords, he treated the role as secondary to his interest in the planet Earth and its people. He was granted an official remit to travel across the Universe, rather than just the history of the planet he was observing, as a result of a great service to Gallifrey during his early life. He was also one of few early incarnations of the Doctor who contemplated any form of relationship with a human, though he ultimately never went through with it. Despite this, he still maintained a wide social network in the era to which he was assigned.

Yes, Ace's darling absolutely gets special treatment in terms of how he behaves around them. Other people will definitely be able to see that he loves and adores you, but to them Ace just looks like a normal boyfriend. In general, he comes off like a pretty friendly and reasonable guy. No one would ever suspect his yandere side or how messy his emotions can get.

When he's alone with you, everything is more intense and raw. His confidence is largely gone and you see how uncertain he truly is in life. You are the only person that he'll fully confide in, so you'll know him much more intimately than anyone else could ever hope to. He isn't even this open and honest with Luffy.

Stigma: What brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?

His childhood and the issues that he's carried with him ever since those days are the reason he's like this. Even with his brothers around, he always had this gnawing loneliness from feeling like he was a uniquely evil individual because of who his father is. When your own grandfather can't even look you in the eye and tell you that you deserve to be alive, that is going to ruin your psyche. If you aren't worthy of life, obviously you aren't worthy of love.

But then he finds someone that loves him. Despite everything, his darling can love someone as monstrous as him? It doesn't matter if you haven't said it. Actions speak louder than words, so you being generally kind and loving when you two first meet is enough to have him feeling like he's found his soulmate. He's sure that he'll never get this lucky again, so of course he'll never let you go.

Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?

This man worships the ground you walk on and cherishes the air you breathe. You're everything to him. You're a perfect angel that gives him the sweet comfort of someone to have and to hold, heart and soul. Someone that gives him something so precious only deserves the best treatment possible.

Before he takes you, he's pulling out all the stops to get you to come with him willingly. He'll be giving you gifts and bringing you on dates while only displaying his best qualities. Ace can be extremely endearing and charming, so there is a very high chance that you will initially be compliant with him. His darling being cooperative in the beginning is kind of crucial to him becoming yandere for you. If you reject him or get too harsh before he's completely fallen for you, it'll make his heart clam up and he won't form that intense connection.

Yearn: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap?

It is not a long process. Two weeks tops. Ace falls hard and fast if his darling gives him what he craves. Their warm comfort makes his own flames feel cold by comparison, and he gets addicted quick. As soon as he feels like you've "accepted" him, your fate is sealed. You are coming with him whether you like it or not. Putting up a fight won't be enough to deter him once he's fallen for you. At that point, he feels like he needs you too much to back out now. He's hopeful that you'll come around and go back to your old self sooner or later.

Yandere Hades Alphabet

Hades is very affectionate in every sense. He’s very verbally affectionate, physically affectionate, and adores giving you gifts. He can also get really intense with it and needs to be reminded to slow down.

Blood: How dirty is he willing to get when it comes to you?

His preference is to have the fates cut the mortal's life thread. But if that doesn’t work burn baby burn.

Cruelty: how will they treat you once kidnapped will he mock you?

He’s actually pretty sweet once he has you kidnapped. He does mock you slightly. However, that probably would happen even if you weren’t his obsession love.

Darling: besides kidnapping you would he do anything else against your will?

I actually don’t think he’d do anything too bad against your will. MAYBE extending Meg’s contract or harming Pain and Panic.

Exposed: How much of his heart do you bear?

Oh, honey. You bear ALL of it. Do you think he cares for Pain or Panic ? No! Just you (Creepy)

Fight: How would he feel if you fought back?

He’d be pissed! Babe, you're his! He’s treating you like his queen. Why are you fighting? Are you that ungrateful.

Game: Is this a Game to them? Would he like watching his darling try to escape?

No! This isn’t a game babe. He just wants you to love him and be his sweetheart

Hell: Your worst experience with him.

I’m going to say when you were first kidnapped. You were so confused and scared. Hades is a very imposing figure.

He sees himself ruling Mount Olympus with you as his queen. No more Zeus, no more having to keep you from seeing the sunshine, no more trying to run away. Just being with him.

Jealousy: does he get jealous and if he does, does he find a way to cope or will he lash out?

He gets jealous extremely easily. He’s also very prone to having an extreme outburst when he is jealous. Hopefully, that doesn’t result in you getting hurt on accident.

Kisses: How does he act around you?

Hades is his usual self however he is calmer, sweeter, and slightly more lovely Dovey.

Love letters: how would he go about courting/approaching you?

Hades would shower you with gifts, loving words, and most importantly promises of you two ruling on high.

Mask: Are his truth colors different from what people think?

I actually don’t think his true colors are different from what people think. Maybe just nicer than everyone thinks. (Quick Rant; I personally don’t think Hades is as much a villain as he’s misunderstood. I’d be pretty upset if I was cast down to the underworld.)

Naughty: how would he punish you?

You know? I think he’d be into isolation for a punishment. I thought throwing you into the River of Styx but that seems intense. He might though. Maybe if you almost escaped?

Oppression: what rights did he take away from you:

I think the Freedom to go outside is the only right he takes away from you.

Regret: does he regret kidnapping you? Will he ever let you go?

He doesn’t regret kidnapping you and he won’t let you go either. You’re his queen. He needs you.

Sigma: what brought this side of him?

I think the loneliness of the underworld is the main factor for what brought this side of Hades on. I can’t think of too much else honestly.

Tears: how would he feel if you cried screamed or Isolated yourself?

He’s going to feel bad regardless if you’re doing any of those things. He's going to comfort you regardless. Even if he’s worsening it.

Unique: is there anything different from a normal Yandere

He’s a god and you live in the underworld. That's very different.

Vice: what can you use to escape him?

You think you can escape? YOU’RE IN THE UNDERWORLD?!

Witts end: would he ever hurt you

Yes! But it’s an accident. He probably got a little angry and just erupted. Which caused you to get a small burn.

Xoanon: how much does he revere/worship you and to what extent is he willing to go to win you over

He’s revere you so much. You’re already a divine figure in his eyes. He’d do anything to win you over.

Yearn: How long before he snapped and kidnapped you?

Hades is surprisingly patient. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to wait long. I say 3 months before he snaps

Zenith: would he ever break you?

No. Even if he did he’d just snap and you’d be fixed.

I know I'm not going to finish it for a while, but here's a WIP of Thetis and Eurynome rescuing a freshly dropped baby Hephaistos.

I really hesitated to depict Eurynome as a mermaid, but since the only physical description we have of her is the odd mention of her xoanon in Pausanias, and "mermaids" are otherwise mostly unknown to greek mythology, I decided to go for it in the end.

Poe’s love is as intense as it can get. His love sick expression and his tight embrace too much for you to bare. When he’s warmed up and not as shy with you as he was, you will find him to be quite talkative. He will drag you out on outings to lavish restaurants, peaceful parks and cozy libraries. He won’t hesitate with spending his fortune on you. He loves to buy you gifts even though you insist that you don’t need 6 copies of the same book. He will follow you everywhere (with Karl of course).

Naughty: How would they punish their darling?

Of you disobey the rules he has set for you, he will trap you within one of his novels. Worry not. The novel he picked is not a violent one. You won’t have any company as part of your punishment. He will let you out when he thinks you have learned your lesson. When you get back to the real world he will hold you in his arms as you ramble on how scary it was in the eerie silent castle within the book.

Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?

If you die Poe will never move one. He will write novel after novel, poetry after poetry about you and his sorrow, but he would never get over you. He will write novels with you in it so he could live out his longing in his literary world, but it’s never enough. He will soon follow you into the realm beyond.

If you breakup with him, it won’t take longer before he abducts you.

If you mange to escape him (which is no easy defeat) he will track you down. He is after all the second best detective in the world, so tracking you down is no challenge.

You are Poe’s god. He will worship you day and night. Your happiness is the only thing that matters (other than you staying with him). He will do anything in his power to make you his. He will stalk you, sabotage your job and buy your apartment building and kicking out all the residents, including you. You will run to your trusted friend in the end. That’s much is certain.

Oil lamp in shape of a greek warship, end of the 5th cent. BC

The oil lamp with the inscription ΙΕΡΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΑΘΗΝΑΣ (Sanctuary of Athena) was discovered inside the Erechtheion, Acropolis. Its form is linked to the celebration of the Panathenaia and the worship of Athena Polias, whose wooden cultic statue (xoanon) was kept in the eastern part of the Erechtheion.

During the last day of the celebration, the Athenians offered to the xoanon a new peplos, which, after the victory at Salamis, was transported hung like a sail on the mast of a warship -most possibly on one of the victorious triremes of the naval battle– which moved on wheels. The lamp possibly reproduces the features of this ship.
