This is for BOTH people who consider themselves artists and those who don't. It doesn't have to be a comic. A ZINE CAN BE ANYTHING :D It can be a tech tutorial, it can be a comic, it can be flash fiction, it can be a local history guide, it can be Street Fighter II Turbo strategies printed out to be left in arcades, it can be anything!

The video below explains the process better than I could probably in text (I suck at conveying thing through text). My video also has a tl;dr that I would appreciate everyone read before submitting.

There's some other stuff below, but if you're more visual, like not the reading type (like me) then feel free to skip and just head to the video description to jump in.

Also, you may know me for my "Raspberry Pis are for paypigs" video where I try to advocate for the upcycling for ewasted Chromebooks.

I've been into the idea of leaving around Zines for a while. Every time I walk into a coffee shop or local business, I think "wow, I really would wish there was something cool to read." So I started making things to put there: 8 small 2.5 inch panels, folded into one 2.5 inch square for those interested to unravel. I put them inside of these origami boxes that a learned how to make, ones with a logo printed on them.

So far I've made: a zine template (I call it a dog ear zine for some reason), a template for the box to put them in, a zine about using yt-dlp, a zine about a reindeer working IT (along with a collaborator) and (coming soon) a zine about a monster in a cave doing stuff. All of the odg LibreOffice Draw template files to make your own zines or print out mine are on my archive.org page (linked at top of my Tumblr). I'd really like other people to try this 8 panel 2.5 inch zine format, and I'm willing to bribe people with sweet, sweet Gabe Newell bucks to do it. You can submit as many zines in this format as you want. Just make sure they're printed out and have pictures of both the front and back (plus other pictures if you want) . In the video I mentioned you can use my submit page, which is probably the easiest for me to keep track of. You can also use the #dogearzine hashtag to enter. Please read the video description before entering, though (which includes Youtube's and Tumblr's terms of service, though this is more of a youtube thing).

Also, and this is completely unrelated, there's a lot more to me than just the faux-clickbait Wojak thumbnails. I like doing tech, wrestling, japanese, vidya and other videos, but I love to throw art in whenever I can shoehorn it in. Like, the video where I go over inchworm, butterfly, colors 3D and flipnote sudomemo - colors 3D on a hacked 3DS was my sister's first experience with digital at (she's moved up to an iPad and Procreate). So, it hold a special place in might heart, as a lot of the things I talk about do. I made a Whomp video because I miss Ronnie. I made a Rockbox video because I wished more people used dedicated MP3 players and knew where and how to download music. I want to help people do interesting things. And I also want to thank anyone who read all of this. You are cool. I hope everyone who's able to can compete in this contest and challenge themselves to get out of their comfort zone, to try something new! Also, also, thanks for liking these posts, people on Tumblr. Someone stop me from trying to host a Gravity Falls zine/planner/cookbook, I have too many ideas...!

(And I'm not sure how alive the fandom still is...)

As I'm already rambling, my favourite thoughts so far are...

A 'Seasons' themed zine 4 sections, one for each season, the Pines family throughout the year...! This one is my favourite idea, mostly because I have so many ideas for it! Picnics, easter egg hunts, BBQs, water fights, fireworks, pumpkin/watermelon carving, ice skating, and attempting to hang wintry lights all come to mind...

Stan Twins making up for lost time in Gravity Falls 90% silly domestic fluff. Both prior-to and after trips on the Stan O'War! Running the mystery shack together/watching the Duchess Approves, going to Family Fishing Day with the kids, playing mini golf...

Cookbook Mostly Mabel, Ford, and Stan contributing recipes with a few from the townsfolk and lots of tasting notes from Wendy and Dipper... I'd really want to make this one physical, though, maybe even with limited edition merch like a shopping list pad, a themed apron, or a cookie cutter set... I think a scrapbook style for some pages with drawn sticky notes/spot art of pictures of the characters baking would be really fun. Nailing the characters' handwriting while still keeping it legible would be important, though!

Something exploring the dynamic between Bill and Ford throughout the years-? 3 sections??- researcher era, portal era, post portal era/Weirdmageddon... I think this one would be really fun to do, Ford and Bill have such a crazy dynamic, perfect for really dramatic pieces full of secret codes and visual foreshadowing...

Stan Zine Exploring the many facets of Stan- kid, teen, criminal, Mr Mystery, Grunkle, Hunkle, possessed, etc... I couldn't leave Stan off of the list! This one also has the potential to be really fun... Heists, casinos, secrets and more!

I could definitely manage to host something free and digital right now but I don't want to run a for charity/profit physical zine again unless I'm certain I have the time/expertise for it... It's been a while!!

I might ask to shadow the finance/merch mods for a zine in a busier fandom to brush up on my knowledge of the finances side as the US tax system is uhhh intimidating (as someone NOT from the US) and in the past I have had VERY capable finance mods covering that while I worked on formatting/feedback/socials....

Still, if anyone wants to chat excitably about hypothetical zines hmu because I love talking about them! If I get to a point where I am CERTAIN I have the time to commit to one and I'm certain I have my zine-running knowledge back in order, I'll put an interest check out and run the numbers...

While TurboFox Zines is on a small hiatus from zine moderation, we wanna hear your ideas for future transformers zines you want to see or participate in! Send in asks to us, anonymous or not, and we will list down your ideas!

We will create a poll closer to the time we plan to reopen the zines, but this will give us a good idea of what you want to see, as well as how much preparation we will need to do to make these zines just as enjoyable.

Love how my brain began with wanting to do a dc fashion zine, then slowly began to digress towards, still a dc fashion zine, with a subplot theme of the Wayne family scrambling to get ready for a gala/fashion show, and somehow that ends up dragging the Kent family to come along in the shenanigans. Dear lord, pray for my brain to make the right decision.

Zine Topic/Subject/Focus Ideas (brainstorming):

Favorite family recipes (one recipe per zine? hand drawn illustrations of steps/ingredients; include personal stories/memories about the recipe)

"Wanted" posters (hand drawn "Wanted" posters of things I want in the moment I create the zine; ex. cup of coffee, peace of mind, time machine, my missing "marbles", etc...)

"Unwanted" posters (similar to "Wanted" posters idea, but things i don't want; ex. mosquitoes, 90 degree F days in September, car problems, Donald Trump on my news feed)

"Static in my Head" (smaller collections of black and white abstract art similar to my "Static in my Head" sketchbook, but released as a series)

- How to have a conversation with yourself

-How to be a mermaid

-Making friends

-Hauntings and how it's not just houses that are haunted

-The concept of the divine being found in the transformative properties of fermentation aka controlled rot

-fruits I wanna try and what I think theyd taste like in different situations

-The Stomach Saga or how I have had to learn how to not be afraid to eat and continuous adventures

Making an extra treat for my patrons today: customizable challenge tracker.

Everyone gets one regardless of tier.

The first round will be made by hand so imperfections may exist.

A digital version to print at home will be made soon.

I've got an idea for a Halloween themed zine! It would be centered around my childhood up until around 2009.

Possible page ideas:

Halloween urban legends (bonus points if they're regional)

My favorite Halloween cartoon specials (Scary Godmother, the Halloween SpongeBob episode)

Those fuckin popcorn balls that came in the black bags with the orange details that were surprisingly tasty??

Spooky-shaped pretzels in those cute mini bags (the bats, pumpkins, etc)
