hello, hope you have a good day!
i was lurking on your blog (mostly for your very (imo) based clark kent takes - he has been living rent free in my head for a couple of months now but im also not really familiar with older, pre-crisis comics and kryptonese in general, and also 'we shall be free we shall find peace' haunts me at least once a week and i have feelingsTM about it) and stumbled upon the posts about hoping and 'kaoshahrodh' came up as the tag for those, so i just wanted to know where that phrase came from?
;w; thank you!
kaoshahrodh is a word I've been mulling over for... I guess it's been multiple years now. It's Kryptahniuo - the fan-created conlang that became pseudo-official when the CW used it as their version of spoken Kryptonian. The creator maintains a website with information in it as well as the forms of Kryptonian used in the comics at kryptonian.info.
The literal meaning: shahr is the root of hope. (Shahrrehth is the noun form). Kao- is the imperative prefix, and -odh is the present simple verb suffix. From my understanding, the simple present in Kryptahniuo indicates a habitual state (ex. instead of saying "I am a runner," it's like saying "I run" to mean something similar). Except here it's imperative.
It's what I believe the S stands for.
You'll see Superman referred to, by DC and by fans and occasionally in-universe, as some sort of personification of hope. Usually this results in Superman smiling placidly and Midwesternly while giving a speech and then not lifting a finger to do something, or trying to do one (1) thing and immediately getting shot down so the writers can have someone else be useful, or maybe wringing his hands and being very Solemn and Sad over not being able to do something because he has to stay this ~personification of hope.~
I think this is bullshit, and bad writing besides. Hope, for Superman, is not a noun. It's a verb.
Hope is a command. You must hope. You must believe that the world can be a better place than it is right now. And you must believe that your actions can bring that better world closer. That symbol was what Jor and Lara wrapped their baby in as they sent him into the void of space. I don't usually headcanon Kryptonians as literally Jewish, speaking Hebrew, all that, but I think of it as a kind of echo of tikkun olam. Or at least my limited understanding of it, not having studied Jewish philosophy.
Hope is Action. I first understood the Idea of Superman six issues into Birthright. This goddamn comic, written in 2003, spoke to the sickness and the fury and the helplessness that I think all of us feel, sometimes, when we hear about school shootings; rereading it in 2022, it's amplified by the horror of repetitions in the intervening years. One minute ago, I saw a little girl screaming because she was staring down the barrel of a gun. She was nine, and she will remember it for the rest of her life. Doesn't that set rage into you, too? Superman breaks the glass, reaches for a gun, and shoots the gun seller. There's a fury in all of us, I think, when we see injustice. There's a kid in all of us that learned what fairness was and never forgot. When we're hurt, many of us, we want to hurt back.
Superman catches the bullet he fired an inch away from the man's face. Now you will, too. He doesn't kill the gun seller. With all his power, with all his rage, with the absolute clarity of his storybook moral compass, he makes the man understand, on a primal level, just what he has allowed to happen. He didn't fucking sit there on a cloudy sunlit throne of softboy feelgood platitudes and hope that people would be nicer. He acted. Hope is an imperative action.
(In a more... self-centered way, it's also a command to stay alive. There have been times in my life I needed that reminder. Sometimes you can't see. Sometimes you can't get yourself to reason that things will get better, that someday you'll feel like you belong, that people care about you. That's when you need the work of hope. To get out of bed. Someday, if you get out of bed enough times, if you pilot your body through enough days, keeping it alive, if you grope in the dark for help - you will be able to believe that you deserve to be alive.)
Elliot S! Maggin once said something along the lines of: writing a Superman story is very easy, and all of them (all of his, at least) come down to one thing. In any given situation, if you had all the power in the world, what would be the right thing to do? You and I, we're not Superman. We don't have all the power in the world. But we have some power. Kaoshahrodh asks: how can things be better? And how can we act to make it so?

I’m probably gonna sound very disjointed. But I have an idea for a superhero campaign where all the P.Cs are kids cause all adults have disappeared.
I thought MASKS would be a good system for this but my friend informed me that in order for MASKS to work you kinda need mentor characters.
So in your opinion, what would be a good, easy to learn superhero based system to run this game.
THEME: Superheros, Kids - Only
Henshin, by Cave of Monsters Games.
Henshin A Sentai RPG is a storytelling tabletop game about young heroes with transformative powers who battle both monsters and personal problems. It borrows from a Japanese superhero culture of color-coded masked teams, giant robots, and over-the-top special effects. Anyone can tell fun, collaborative stories in Henshin!, regardless of familiarity with the tropes, and the game showcases a diversity of settings and characters for every player.
This book includes instructions and actual play examples for everything needed to start playing Henshin! right away. Also included are the eleven Color playbooks, seven ready-to-play settings, original exclusive art, and references to digital downloads. Resources and information can be found at henshingame.com. Let’s Henshin!
Henshin is inspired by the Tokusatsu genre of superhero media, and reminds me intensely of Power Rangers. Your characters will wrestle with personal obstacles such as dealing with their temper, their failures, and the way they are seen by their peers. The system is inspired by No Dice, No Masters but that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily GM-less, just that it doesn’t use dice. Henshin’s settings are also very flexible, so you should be able to write your own custom setting in which the kids have taken on super-powered relics in order to survive in a world without adults.
Masks: Retconned, by Sam Roberts.
You’re like most teenagers, with one small difference: You’re a superhero. Fight villains, be part of a team, save the day, and maybe, slowly figure out who you are.
Masks: Retconned is a game of teen superhero adventures, designed for 3+ players. Most of the players will take on the role of individual Heroes on a Team. Imagine these as the protagonists of your new comic book series. One player takes on the role of GM, embodying the superheroic setting, supporting characters, and villains.
If you like the basic premise of Masks but you don’t want to deal with the adult entanglements, you might want to take a look at Masks: Retconned. The game is very bare-bones, and only has the basic mechanics - your stats, your emotions, and the graded success scale and what it means for moves. The rest is meant to be designed as you need it. So if you don’t mind doing a little bit of game design before you sit down to play, you might want to check this out!
Powered by Cereal, by bismuth.
Become the Teen With Attitude you always wanted to be Inspired by tokusatsu hero teams and magical girl squads, PbC is a game about building a brightly-coloured Hero team and playing their adventures across a Series, fighting to save the world from evil!
PbC brings all players together to collaborate on crafting a Series, with its own aesthetics for heroes and villains, its own setting, and unique qualities for each hero. Play comprises the Episodes of the Series: both the Heroes' lives, and fights against Boss characters. It uses a relatively straightforward d6 system and encourages the Hero players to think about how their individual actions work towards a team strategy, bolstering allies and keeping momentum!
Characters in PbC are embodiments of different virtues, and these virtues will define your personal strengths, as represented in the Verbs and Adjectives assigned to your character. Relationships are also important in this game, and this is represented by connections that each player will have with side characters, whether that be positive or negative. Overall the game is still very lighthearted, as it’s inspired by Saturday morning cartoons.
When you try to do something in PbC, you roll a number of d6’s, and check to see how many results were unique. The more unique results you have, the more successes! This means that there’s a cap on how successful your character ca be, but I think the fact that any roll is going to have at least one success really communicates the tone of this game. This another game where the setting is build-your-own, and I don’t see any mechanics that require adults to be part of the setting.
Teens With Powers, by Unknown Dungeon.
Teens with Powers is a one-page roleplaying game about extraordinary young people, inspired by TV shows like Teen Titans and Avatar the Last Airbender, and shonen manga. As a group, the players and GM come up with the setting, themes, and age-range of the characters. Then each player creates a character with a singular power that they can use to help solve problems and fight evil, while also traversing the trials of being young adults.
Teens with Powers uses a dice-pool system to resolve risky actions, and a back-and-forth combat system to allow of maximum expression and excitement. Also included is a back-page with GM advice and rules.
Teens with Power is a stripped-down Forged in the Dark game. There isn’t much of a setting involved in the first place, so you should be able to build your own setting to fit your preferences. The downside is that there isn’t much guidance or inspiration for powers, so it might be worth it to check out something like Supertables to help you come up with your powers.
This ruleset has a mechanic called Limit, which tracks how close your character is coming to breaking down - push too far, and you lose control of your powers, likely causing damage and hurting something or someone you care about. This might be also good for a high-tension game where the disappearance of adults is the cause of a lot of stress and fear for your characters.
Super City, by David Garrett.
One in every one hundred children in Super City is born with super powers. You are one of those children. Together with your classmates at Super City Elementary, you save helpless citizens, rescue lost pets, and eat delicious ice cream.
Utilizing the ultralight VRBS system, Super City is easy enough for a six year-old to master, but also provides the structure for anyone to generate a superhero story of their own.
Super City was designed to be able to run for small kids, so the rule-set is definitely very light. Your powers will be represented as verbs, and you’ll gain better control over your powers as you progress. The game is organized over a series of scenes, which will present you with a number of problems that you’ll have to solve. You also have a collective pool of Energy, which is meant to track how close your characters are to running out of steam. The goal is to get through the mission without running out of Energy, which depletes when you fail a roll.
This is a game without a setting or history, which means you can backfill whatever lore makes sense for your characters.
Cosmic Ray Kids, by Hedgemaze Press.
Cosmic Ray Kids is a single-page (front and back) atomic-age adventure roleplaying game for all ages. Play as superpowered youngsters who fight the forces of evil with heroics and heart!
Cosmic Ray Kids uses a push-your-luck style of gameplay, that looks very much like the PUSH system by Cezar Capacle. Rolling a 6 is the best possible result. If you roll a 4 or lower, you can choose to roll again - but roll higher than a 7 and you’ve gone too far!
This game also has a Boost resource that is communal, and can be spent to improve a roll up to a certain point. This gives the players an option in case there is something that they can’t risk a re-roll for but still need a success, and also encourages the group to work together to figure out how to solve problems. If you want a game that has a retro-cartoon feel that encourages the characters to work together, Cosmic Ray Kids might be worth checking out!
A Special Extra:
It’s not a superhero game, but Children of the Fall is a GM-less game that takes place in an apocalypse that has turned adults into bloodthirsty monsters. It’s very gritty and dark, but an interesting premise.

hi girly!! i need your help. i’ve been learning spanish for about a year now, but i feel like i’m not retaining anything. i can say most basic sentences and somewhat hold a conversation, but i struggle with words and the endings like the present tense, past tense, and stuff like that. I was wondering if you have any methods or apps that can help me retain and understand the language a little more?
Helloooo! That’s awesome that you’ve been learning Spanish for a year! It’s totally normal to feel a bit stuck sometimes, especially with verb tenses and endings. Here are some tips that might help:
First, I recommend using simple apps for spaced repetition, like Anki. They’re easy to use and really help with retention. For verb tenses, create charts for verbs (like hablar: hablo, hablas) and practice filling them in regularly. Writing simple sentences or reading aloud can also boost your confidence.
I truly believe that the easiest and fastest way to learn is through immersion. Listen to podcasts, watch shows with Spanish subtitles, and read children’s books or news apps like El País. The more you surround yourself with the language, the better.
HelloTalk is great for chatting with native speakers, so don’t be shy about that and try talking to people more often. Also, create an account on Twitter/X and follow Spanish accounts. Engaging with others by replying to tweets can really help you practice.
To really incorporate Spanish into your life, include it in your hobbies. Change your phone and social media language settings, and try to play games or watch movies in Spanish. This way, you’ll constantly be exposed to the language in different contexts.
Try talking to yourself. You can do this in the mirror or create scenarios in your head. I love Spanish dramas, so I often pretend I’m inside a novel and start talking to myself. It’s actually a lot of fun and helps you see exactly what you don’t know, allowing you to practice the specific words and sentences you need to improve.
Honestly, what might feel the silliest, like talking to yourself, keeping a diary, creating a chatting account, or even reading or watching kids’ books, can actually help you the most. If you’re struggling with the basics, you need to start with the simple stuff. Maybe your mind is too full, making it hard to keep going, so simplifying your approach can really help.
You might also try keeping a diary in Spanish or making collages and journals. Decorate your Spanish notebook (get a real one if you don’t have it; writing helps with absorption). This creative process can make learning feel more personal and engaging.
For more structured learning, try Lingvist or Clozemaster for grammar and vocab. Conjugato is great for practicing verb conjugations, and Busuu lets you interact with native speakers. SpanishDict is also super helpful for checking conjugations and grammar rules.
Start with the present tense, then move on to past tenses like preterite (for completed actions) and imperfect (for ongoing actions). When you feel comfortable, dive into the subjunctive, which is used for wishes and doubts.
I don’t know how you’re learning or the best way for you to do it since everyone is different. But if you haven’t tried immersion yet, I highly recommend it. I also got stuck with Spanish, but after I started immersing myself, I felt like things got better.
Good luck ( ˘ ³˘) ₊˚⊹ᡣ𐭩 I’m glad that my blog has made you comfortable enough to send me a message. If you want something more specific, don’t hesitate to ask me; I might be able to help! I’m not fluent, but as someone who has faced many difficulties, I’ve had to research learning methods that might be useful. ¡Que tengas un gran día, chiquita!

Ok so you know when you're presenting a scenario in the narrative that your audience is supposed to disagree with. and, you know, 'shaking my head while reading on the train so everyone knows I don't agree' etc, you aren't presenting this for children, the audience is supposed to know what's going on.
good writing doesn't have something in-universe that points out when bad things are bad.
but there is a loophole.
if you want to make sure, if you feel like adding a failsafe to make sure nobody starts throwing accusations, you have the character with the incorrect view say something else, earlier or in the same scene, that is wildly, brutally obviously incorrect.
you brand them with the idea that they are Wrong and the audience will absorb that trait and apply it to everything else they do.
There's a great example of this in the Sopranos episode "Christopher", about christopher columbus and how defensive people are about him, where Tony disagrees with his son's columbus-critical school book. Tony rants "he discovered America, is what he did. He was a brave Italian explorer", with absolute conviction. But just a moment ago, Tony tried to excuse columbus's actions by saying that 500 years ago everyone was less aware - "people thought the earth was flat, for crying out loud", when arguments about the shape of the earth belong to ancient Greece, around 300 BC.
He also then mentions something about "remember when we went to Florida - the heat? and those bugs?" seemingly implying that mass murder is as excusable as swatting annoying insects. an abhorrent, disgusting view - informing us in concrete terms that Tony's impassioned defense of columbus is based on flimsy logic and his mentality is flawed.
another example I like is The Nicest Kids In Town from Hairspray. a toe-tapping number about the vast opportunities for young people in 1950s Baltimore - as long as you're white!
You'd better come on down and meet the nicest kids in town! Nice white kids who like to lead the way
Other than a little zoomed-in emphasis on the singer, it's just baked into the song. It's got the same jaunty beat as everything else. So just in case you somehow didn't get how amazingly racist this situation is, Corny Collins goes on to sing:
Every afternoon drop everything, Who needs to read and write when you can dance and sing! Forget about your algebra and calculus, You can always do your homework on the morning bus, Can't tell a verb from a noun- They're the nicest kids in town!
Playing it as a joke is a good way to couch the meaning, but this is no holds barred irresponsible in a way that explains why parents don't want their children watching Corny's show. But the link is there - this guy jokingly insists that children should watch tv instead of learning to read and write. With that in the same song, are you going to trust him on any other topic? On the racial divide of 1950s america? He's the face of the show, and given the time period, what he sings isn't shocking in-universe - but it should be outside of that, and his regressive humour clues you in that the correct stance is opposing this guy.
so there you go. if you want an audience to be assured a character is in the wrong... just... make them unbelievably wrong about something unrelated.

What Are The Basic Thing To Learn In Any Language? 🤔
When you're learning a new language, you’ve probably been told to "start with the basics." But what exactly are "the basics"? It’s a common piece of advice, yet many people feel lost when figuring out what they should actually focus on.
Let me break it down for you:
The basics are the everyday essentials, the foundation of any language. These are the things we all use constantly, no matter our age or level of education. Here’s a list to give you a clearer picture:
The basics are the most common things of a language every person uses everyday, even kids. I'm going to list this things for better understanding: ·Word order Is basically knowing where you put the verb in a sentence, or the adjective, the subject, the object, etc. ·Sentences Structure This is to know how you make the sentences. Think about English, affirmations and questions doesn't have the same structure does they? ·Basic verbs These are the most common actions such as: eat, have, talk, walk, think, say, get up, sit down, watch, drink, cook, etc. ·Basic nouns Same as above, the most common ones: chair, bed, food, water, hand, house, etc. ·Basic adjectives The most common descriptions such as: pretty, bad, ugly, good, tall, short, nice, etc. ·Basic adverbs Adverbs of time, manner, quantity, and every other: fast, slow, tomorrow, today, many, few, a lot, etc. ·Connectors These are the words that help you connect two sentences: and, or, with, but, etc.
And if you’re learning a language with a non-Latin alphabet like Korean, Bulgarian, or Georgian start with the alphabet! It may seem dull at first, but trust me, knowing the script will make everything easier later.
By focusing on these basics, you’re building the foundation for understanding and using the language in real-life situations. Remember, even kids start with these!

Remember, kids, "Resentful resentment resentfully resents."
"Resentful" is an adjective used to describe people, places, things, or ideas. "He is a resentful person."
"Resentment" is a noun, in this case a thing or an idea. "He is filled with resentment."
"Resentfully" is an adverb used to describe actions or states of being. "He resentfully walked away." "She is resentfully angry."
"Resent" is a verb, in this case an action. "I resent that remark." "Do you resent the decision?" "They all resent their boss."
Other forms of the verb include "resents", "resented", "will resent", and "has resented". "He resents being left behind." "She resented her orders." "Ever since, all of them have resented the people who treated them so poorly."
It is almost always a transitive verb, which means an action that has an object. You can "be resentful" or "resent a thing" but you usually cannot just "resent" by itself.
English is fucking hard, whether you're a native speaker or just starting to learn, but I hope this helps.
#/incoherent noises/#mdzs#cql#english language#none of these look like words anymore#this post brought to you by the millionth time ive read the phrase 'the resent'#to all authors who have made that mistake you did your best and im proud of you for that#also here's a cheat sheet to avoid making the same mistake later

Can anyone recommend some free resources for learning Spanish besides Duolingo? I'm in a mostly Spanish-speaking neighborhood and have started doing organizing / volunteer stuff with asylum seekers from Venezuela. I spoke it conversationally as a kid and took classes in high school and at the moment passively comprehend enough that I was able to one-way translate a couple of misunderstandings at an encampment / can fulfill basic requests for action (giving someone food, napkins, etc.) or via gestures (showing where the bathroom is, etc.), but my expressive language is extremely limited. I pick up language pretty fast and have a good sense of grammar; what I want is a functional baseline of core verbs & syntax, plus vocab re: food, domestic things, clothes, cardinal directions, weather, transportation, activities of daily living, and government. Also a solid rotation of adjectives and adverbs that come up in practical conversation / describe people, time, food, clothes, bureaucracy. The usual.

Linking Verbs in English
Linking verbs are an essential part of English grammar, yet they often go unnoticed. Unlike action verbs, which describe an action, linking verbs connect the subject of a sentence to a subject complement, which can be a noun, pronoun, or adjective that describes or identifies the subject. In this blog post, we’ll dive deep into the world of linking verbs, exploring their usage, common examples,…

One action, one root? Hupa and verbs which don't make tidy tables
The roots of many Hupa verbs have meanings which are more vague than English verbs in the nature of the action, but indicate more about the arguments of the verb than English verbs usually do. For example, the verb root /ʔan/ means "interact with a round object". Most English verbs do not care to convey information about the shape of any of its arguments, but Hupa, like many of its Athabascan relatives, has different word roots for different shapes and numbers of objects a person can interact with. Goddard (1911) records verb roots indicating round objects, flat and flexible objects, fire, many small objects, one person or animal, multiple persons or animals, doughlike substances, liquids, wax or waxlike substances, and long objects. However, these roots do not give much detail about the kind of interaction between the subject and these various objects.
The same root may appear in multiple verb bases (see this post on Hupa verbs) which convey various different meanings. For instance, the root /ʔan/ above may occur in a base meaning "pick up a round object", and another that means "carry a round object", "put a round object in something", and so on. Conversely, this means that actions denoted by "pick up" would vary depending on what we were talking about picking up. I /ʔan/'d up a stone, but I /tan/'d up a stick, /xan/'d up some water in my cup, /ten/'d up my friend's cat, or /ʧwaɪ/'d up a bunch of legos off the ground, /ʌt/ a piece of paper, and my mother used to be able to /lel/ up her two kids.
Even outside of this paradigm, there are a number of roots which are only used for singular subjects, and others for plural subjects. For example, when one person lies down, the root word is /tu:xʷ/, but if many lie down, the root word is /teʧ'/. This means that even completing the sort of 6-way table that a person might be familiar with when learning French or Spanish (hablo, hablas, habla, etc.) may involve forms with two separate verb roots. In some cases, this is even more finely split; one root /qal/, Goddard (1911) attests is only used in the third person. Hupa is by no means an outlier in this respect. Other Athabascan languages, notably Navajo, feature verb paradigms with different roots.
This phenomenon is similar to suppletion, where an unrelated word is used as a form of another word. For example, the word 'went' comes from a word that was entirely separate from go (to wend, meaning to travel or go), but became used as the past tense of go. But rather than being a mix up of words, this seems to be a case of the number and nature of the arguments being built into the meaning of the word. Either way, I plan to show you an example conjugation of a Hupa verb later this week as an example.

I used the random Pokémon generator to get me a Pokémon to look up, and the result was
Medicham
The Japanese name doesn't have any actual references to the Japanese language, so we're going to skip it.
(It references pants, look it up)
For it's two abilities, Telepathy gets simply translated, while Pure Power is... Actually "Yoga Power". So that's why it's a signature ability of Meditite and Medicham.
Now let's look at a Pokedex entry:
ダンスの ような 優雅な 動きで 攻撃を かわして 強烈な 一撃を 相手に お見舞いする。
Let's divide this sentence in various parts:
ダンスの ような 優雅な 動きで 攻撃を かわして
ような before a noun indicates that the noun is similar to something else, or like something else.
Then we have 優雅 (ゆうが,yuuga), graceful, acting as a なadjective before the noun 動き(うごき,ugoki), movement.
Finally we have 攻撃(こうげき,kougeki)をかわして, "to dodge an attack (and proceed to do something else with the next sentence, signaled by て)".
"With dance-like, elegant movements, it dodges attacks"
強烈な 一撃を 相手に お見舞いする
This sentence is pretty straightforward.
強烈(きょうれつ,kyouretsu, strong), acts as adjective to 一撃(いちげき,ichigeki, strike, implied to be a singular attack).
The verb used can seem a little strange on the other hand.
If you look up お見舞い(おみまい, omimai) in the dictionary, you will most probably find that is has the meaning of "paying a visit to someone who's ill", even having the honorific お in front of it which implies that the whole word gets a sense of "respect" to it, something to not be treated lightly.
... Which doesn't really make sense in this contest.
But if instead of looking up the noun+する form we look at the verb 見舞う without honorific, it does also have the meaning of "to hit or strike", which makes sense in this contest.
(After having dodged attacks) "It strikes the opponent with a single strong blow".
So in this case we are using the polite form of 見舞う and it becomes お見舞いする to give it a more "official" sound, like a pokedex entry would.
Interesting moves it can learn:
飛び膝蹴り(とびひざげり,Tobihizageri) High jump kick
Maybe it's unoffical signature move... Or at least the one I always hoped it would use against me and fail.
When I was a kid, it always struck me as weird that you would damage yourself if the move failed. You are jumping and hitting the enemy from the top, if you miss don't you just... Land back on the ground?

Pretty much what I was picturing every time.
The reason is that the literal name is "Flying knee strike", which implies that you are trying to hit the enemy with your knee.
So of course if you miss, your Pokémon is going to bust that kneecap straight on the ground.
No wonder it hurts so much.
The anime thankfully made it much more clear.
発勁(はっけい, Hakkei) Force Palm
"Hakkei" is a martial arts term that comes from Chinese, and describes "releasing internal power explosively".
This is a purely physical action: it's a set of methods to move your body in such a way to generate a lot of force in small movements. One example made famous by Bruce Lee is the "one inch punch".
発 is a kanji that gets used in so much vocabulary it's good to learn it early.

How did you learn to speak English... Your writing is so elegant, I can't do it with my limited public school vocabulary... I don't want more tenses in sentences! I'm not even sure whether that is well written!
Wikihow tutorial how to learn a new language with zero motivation (ᗒᗩᗕ)
Good God, Spanish is supposed to be a very difficult language, I'm really good at speaking it and conjugating verbs, but I'm terrible at English! I refuse to lower my grades, send help
ALR I GOTCHU BBG
So how I learned to write is by reading
Like I read a lot when I was a kid; Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Warriors, School of Good and Evil, etc
I also started writing early on too, like I started writing fanfiction when I was about 9. Was it good? Not really but hey I liked it
English is a stupidly complicated language, but like all languages, you have to practice it to get better. Read other people's essays, other books, and study how they write. There's also a book called the Elements of Style that I had to read last year in AP Language and Composition that really helped me with Grammer (and taught me how to use semicolons). If you have the time, I recommend you check that out !!
But yeah !! Everyone has their own style, and what I like to do is when I read stories, fanfiction, or manwha, when there's something that hits me really hard, I rewind and try to figure out why it made me feel that way. Try different things out and see what you like!
Also with essays, with English you want to keep your vocabulary broad and incorporate your evidence seamlessly (make it a habit to not say "Author states" or smth to that degree. Use action verbs such as describes, argues, articulates, reiterates, etc.). Write as though you're talking, keep it formal, but also keep it smooth.
ALSO SPANISH GOOD LORD THAT HURT ME WHEN I LEARNED IT CONJUGATING PHYSICALLY KILLED ME BUT SPANISH AND ENGLISH ARE KINDA ??? SIMILAR spanish easier to pronounce tho .... SO U SHOULD BE FINE

Heheheh, here i go and I wanna know your
Favorite tropes
Kpop bands
Female characters
Ice cream flavors
Words in your language
bestie i take days to answer single questions and you've given me 5 😭 okay then, let's get to it!!
Tropes💘
a few things i go insane for:
power couple or stick it to the haters
when the characters know each other so well and prove their bond to outsiders. this includes but is not limited to:
"he's a monster!" "no, he isn't." (LBFAD)
"he'd never fall for someone like her" *he's head over heels* (Itazura na Kiss)
"i won't allow it!" *proceeds to give their blessings because they finally see how they're giving their kid what they failed to* (alternatively the couple flips them off and rides off into the sunset) (F4: Thailand iirc)
contract marriage or alternatively fake dating
nothing like faking it into making it 🥰 bonus points if a cocky mean outsider is into one of them and knows that it's a scam so they get a nasty surprise (idek where that is coming from but I've seen smth like that fs)
this trope's sister:
forced proximity combined with enemies to lovers
(one bed™️ can fit into this category)
oh to start on the wrong foot with someone but then be forced to see them in their natural state and appreciate the way they tie their hair before doing the dishes and help out the neighbours bring their groceries upstairs. to lie in bed thinking about how they bought an extra soda can ("it was on sale" ) that is coincidentally the flavour you love but they find gross. this trope is the gift that keeps on giving, you get domesticity, you get gradual mutual understanding, seeing them at their most vulnerable, it's so good. and they're basically prepared for marriage lol
introducing a bunch of diverse characters quickly through narration
i'm a sucker for a good variety of characters having unique to them intros (murder mystery staple) esp when it's like the camera going through an apartment building and you learn what type of person lives on each floor, it's so fun
found family or supportive friend group
again, usually a colourful bunch of characters, this time united by their love for each other. the compassion, the warmth, the shenanigans, it's so good 😭 (thinking of the kitty gang and the uncanny counter squad lol)
Kpop bands💫
for bands it's
1. Day6
2. The Rose
3. N.Flying
and then Xdinary Heroes, Lucy and FT Island sharing a spot ig haha
as for groups..i's insane to even think about it, I just know Seventeen and Day6 are on there, everyone else is depending on criteria lol like whose albums have i listened to the most? Ateez, Monsta X, Got7. who are legends i can't not mention? INFINITE, SHINee, EXO, BTOB etcetc. don't do this to me lmao
Female characters 🪷
I'll just have to go with ladies in bl because otherwise it's impossible
1. Hashimoto Mio (Kieta Hatsukoi)
2. Photjanee (MSP)
3. Yan Li & Wen Qing (to me they're sisters and they're sharing a spot idc) (CQL)
4. Fujisaki Nozomi (Cherry Magic)
5. Miriam (Tonhon Chonlatee)
shoutout to my love Jingjai from Home School 💓
Ice cream flavours🍦
in no particular order:
1. chocolate
2. yogurt
3. pistachio
4. raspberry sorbet
5. caramel
Words in your language 🔤
as I refuse to flat out state where I'm from you're getting descriptions of words lmao
the word for love with the connotation of it not being romantic (but could also be used for romantic love)
the word we use as a replacement for any place, action, quality, as a verb, adjective, noun or adverb when the proper word doesn't come to mind (works best if the other person has context, otherwise they're just listing out things you could mean and you get gradually more frustrated that they don't get it)
a made up word combining a word for idiot and the name for a french bulldog (I will not be explaining but it's hilarious)
an adjective from the word for moon that describes moony things like light, stone, cycle
and not one of my faves but a fave to use with kids - an endearing nickname from the word for sun
#petri replies#ppg#ask game#im posting this before i overthink even more lmao sorry for the 4 day wait love#definitely have a lot more tropes to add but alas i cant think of all of it at once

Next Chapter Sneak Peek
Here's a peek from the upcoming chapter in "Love is an Action Verb." We left off on a bit of a cliffhanger...
A person (angel? demon?) was crumpled face-down on the floor; long pale limbs, large black wings with feathers smoothed to a glassy shimmer, riotous crimson hair that pooled in impressive length on the white floor by their head. Utterly nude and, observed uncomfortably by the lads, utterly sexless.
“Oh, bloody hell,” Greaz swore under his breath.
Adam looked at him, alarmed. “Is this…?”
Greaz nodded.
Lock’s eyes darted between his friends and the being on the floor. “What happened to him?”
Greaz knelt on the floor next to Crowley’s form. “Let’s just say that I’m not exactly living up to my family’s expectations, mate.” He pushed Crowley’s hair away from where it fell in a curtain, hiding the demon’s face. “Lock, mate, I think you might need to be the one to wake him up. You have the most memories of him…and memories are something he doesn’t have, right now.”
“You’re kidding.”
Greaz shrugged. “Like I said, that stupid book wasn’t to be used. It was supposed to be a way for them to learn. Like a meditation tool. I called it a ‘test’ earlier, but that’s not what it was meant to be.” Greaz sighed as Lock sat down beside him, hanging his head. “It’s meant to be a way for them to see how interconnected it all is. That’s the point, that all of Creation is one big thing, and that every bit is vital to the whole. That you can’t change things or make it like stuff didn’t happen. That nothing is on its own.”
Adam still stood, tense, looking at the two beings prone on the floor, at his friends sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. “But that’s like saying that nothing is ever an accident, or that nothing wrong ever happens. Or like nothing can ever change! And that’s not right. I have changed things, I’ve made things go away!”
“But you never un-made anything. Not really. You re-thought things, interpreted things differently – like your dad, right? And we can always change things, mate – but only in one direction. We can only change our minds, y’see. Like, when I was a kid and I was nasty to you and your friends. I was bigger’n you lot and I had all this energy and nowhere to aim it, and you were so perfect and it got under my skin all the time.” Greaz paused, taking a breath and unclenching his hands. “I didn’t have to change. I could have grown into someone hateful, someone who might do…what the angels are expecting me to do. But I did change. I can’t go back and un-do a single punch I threw – but I can change the ones that haven’t happened yet, because I can change my mind, see?”
“I think he’s waking up,” Lock whispered nervously.
Crowley’s eyes flew open. Lock flinched backwards – he had seen Crowley’s eyes before, but he had never seen them like this. Not one speck of white remained. These were the eyes of an animal, wild and wary. The demon scrambled away, backing into the desk and folding his crow-black wings around himself. His long red hair curled in all directions down to the floor, pooling around his hips. The snake on his face, off-puttingly animated, slithered down and stretched itself around his neck like a tightened noose.
“Shit, it’s okay, hey,” Lock tried to use a soothing voice, feeling guilty for startling the creature. “You’re good, all right? You’re safe with us.”
Crowley wasn’t even looking at the boy. His eyes were fixed somewhere behind Lock, looking past him: the helpless eyes of an animal in a trap.
“I wouldn’t say that, young man,” a voice boomed across the empty white of the Heavenly space. “And I am delighted indeed that at least something has gone right today.”
Lock whipped around, seeing Adam moving quickly in his peripheral vision, standing with his friends. The three boys faced the lone angel walking towards them.
“Be not afraid, my children. I am The Metatron, The One Who Speaks With The Voice Of God.”
