Eurovision 2023: #10 & #09

10. PORTUGAL Mimicat - "Ai coração" 23rd place

Decade Ranking: 33/116 [Above Diljá, below VICTORIA]

Man, I wish Eurovision had better things in store for Mimicat than 23rd place. It feels like highway robbery? I'm pretty sure we all agree that "Ai coração" slaps? It's cute, whimsical, well performed, her voice is a temple, her dancers sublime.

This is one of the best choreographed bops in recent mothering. SERVER SERVED, MOTHER MOTHERED, as we all knew she would the second she won FdC.

However, I can't shake the feeling that the budget was cut drastically short between Lisboa and Liverpool. The whole ensemble looks more inexpensive? It's not even the missing couch, the camera work and backdrops are uninspired and look like they've been cobbled together last minute? At times, it feels like you're watching a rehearsal. Why is everything so DARK? Why are there SO MANY wideshots? So that we cannot appreciate how good the dancers are?

The issue is one of respect, or rather the lack thereof others had for Portugal. Not many, including RTP for some reason, seemed to believe Mimicat was an easy qualifier (HAVE YOU HEARD THE SONG?!) and even the newspapers here called her "a surprise revelation that came out nowhere to deservingly take a slot in the finale" ummmm.... At this point, you know the writing is on the wall and Mimi will be tossed into a death slot to serve as kindling for the Loreen coronation pyre.

However, I respect Mimicat and her heart, of which she has so much, so I still grant her the top 10 she deserves! 🙂 A suboptimal Mimicat is still a Mimicat, you know. Some people carry the Serve gene, and it is dominant in her.

"Ai coração" is -if nothing else- a wholesome, catchy earworm that is a joy to listen to and behold under any circumstance. Top shelf filler, eventhough it deserved more distinction. Mimi OWNS it, it's her song, and only she can perform it this well. Her vocal, the dancers, the build up it's all delectable and I savour it. It made for a fun and whimsical three minutes that definitely earned more than an unfair bottom five finish for the ultimate crime of not being a bookmaker's pet.

09. ALBANIA Albina & Familija Kelmendi - "Duje"22nd place

Decade ranking: 31/116 [Above VICTORIA, below Albina (Tick Tock)]

MORPH! It's been YEARS since the last time I've had a positive whiplash between preshow and postshow, and here we are (and it's not the last one...x) I've done a complete 180 on Albania and have ZERO regrets. "Duje" flies in the face of every principle Eurovision 2023 stood for (a song that IMPROVED from the NF and was RESPECTED by its stage director), how could I not reward them with a generous, well-earned spot in my top 10?

But first things first - Yeah, "Duje" came into Eurovision with a lot of problems. It was outright bad in FiK. It was off-putting, cult-like, amateur and had no true identity beyond "Hi We Are The Kelmendi Family From Albania This Is Our Song Representing Albania". The only salient detail was that Albina wore a giant ass cloak that obscured half her face, as her family awkwardly shuffled around like cross-wired automatons. Everything about FiK "Duje" was lame and inept, and I was rooting against its qualification - This one, I concluded, was not for me.

How wrong I was.

I don't even know HOW OR WHY, but once in Liverpool, it clicked. I completely underestimated that Albina Kelmendi's is kind of an amazing talented performer, and good god this was a great performance. Both in the semi and in the final she delivered on the passion and the pathos, which the act put at the centre.

Which brings me to the act which... SJB magic at its finest tbh. It respects the people on the stage. The Kelmenboys were recalibrated into competence, and Albina's dad, sister and sister in law all proved decently charismatic individuals that could serve as worthy foils to Albina.

Albina's mother and brother remained servephobic blocks of wood but that humanizes them, in a way - Mama Kelmendi is just Doing It As A Favour For Her Kids, just like how Mery Bas is doing Zorra for her 500.000 gay manwhore sons. which is earnest.

Alban otoh... hasn't improved at all, lmao. It's hard to discern whether its the complete inability to perform or just not giving a fuck because moving and singing is tedious yo, or both (also like Mery Bas). At a certain point you have to accept his role as one of comedic foil lurking in the background (notice how he's always directly behind Albina) and in that role, I can appreciate him. Missing his cues all the time with a bored look on his face amidst a group that was whipped into a style of discipline you only see at North Korean national parades, gives just enough personality to the performance to make it work, and not seem like Albina, and five androids.

I'm still figuring out how it all came together as well as it did, and where they Actually rank for me, so about 9th seems a good poiint to start? "Duje" was really good, and that's enough for me. If an act that I didn't like very much delivers the drams out of nowhere, I'm not going to ruin it by overthinking it. "Duje" may have gotten the typical Albanian result but through magical happenstance felt just that bit more special and earnest than the typical Albanian entry.

Since the Grand Final is almost here - the signs as this year’s Eurovision entries!

(as always, please don’t take this too seriously, this is just me having fun)

Aries - Queen of Kings 🇳🇴

She’s a warrior, she’s fearless, she’s unstoppable, she has that power that only a Mars-ruled fire sign can have. “A firestone forged in flames” is a great way to describe Aries!

Taurus - Tattoo 🇸🇪

The lyrics are very Pisces-y, but there’s something in the music that won’t let me give this one Pisces. Still— romance is a good topic for a Venus-ruled sign. The song itself is familiar, it’s sung by a former winner, it’s a very safe choice, and Taurus likes familiar, it likes to feel safe, it’s a fixed sign that knows what it likes and sees no need to change it. It worked before, it’s gonna work again.

Gemini - Who the hell is Edgar? 🇦🇹

It’s fun, it’s quirky, AND it’s about writing - quintessential Gemini. No need for further explanation.

Cancer - Duje 🇦🇱

An entire family is singing together, about the importance of family. You can hardly find a more Cancer-y song. The ethnic vibes fit too, feel quite nostalgic.

Leo - Cha cha cha 🇫🇮

It would’ve been easy to give Leo a dramatic ballad, but that’s not all Leo is - they’re the Sun, bright and the centre of attention, but also bringing light and life to everything around them. And Cha cha cha does that, it’s lively and energetic and memorable, it draws people’s attention and it’s fun, unique, everyone likes it.

Virgo - My Sister’s Crown 🇨🇿

Mostly because of the braids. A very Virgo-y hairstyle. But the message of solidarity and support fits Virgo too, they’re the kind of people who help and uplift others.

Libra - Évidemment 🇫🇷

At first I wanted to give this one to Taurus - largely because it’s so… French, and so is Taurus, aesthetics-wise - but the lyrics didn’t quite fit. Taurus is pure beauty and pleasure, Libra is more balanced - and this song is both about beauty and pain. She’s looking for love, yet cannot find it, she’s becoming disillusioned with the beautiful promises she’s heard. And Libra is ruled by Venus, true, but it’s also where Saturn is exalted. I feel like this song is a good combination of Venus and Saturn. Especially “dans mon jardin d’enfer poussent des fleurs” - love that line!

Scorpio - Ai Coração 🇵🇹

I didn’t want to give Scorpio the stereotypical edgy song (so instead I went with the one about going mad from heartbreak…)

It’s about strong emotions you just cannot move on from, feelings so intense they entirely consume you. Very fixed water. And it’s done in a pretty energetic, passionate way - very Martian.

(Plus, there’s a lot of red)

Sagittarius - Carpe Diem 🇸🇮

It’s just a very Sagittarean sentiment. I don’t know what else to say. It fits.

Capricorn - Heart of Steel 🇺🇦

Yeah, largely because of the title. But also: “life is just a game and I’m playing for the win” “світ палає а ти дій” - the combination of cynicism and single-minded determination is very Capricornian.

Aquarius - Mama ŠČ! 🇭🇷

It’s different. It’s avant-garde. You either love it (correct) or hate it (you’re wrong). It rejects artistic norms. Many people write it off as nonsensical, just because it’s too unfamiliar, too extreme, too far out of their comfort zone, but it’s actually very well thought-out, with layers of symbolism.

Pisces - Soarele şi Luna 🇲🇩

It may not sound Pisces-y - a soft ballad might fit the aesthetic more - but everything but the sound is so quintessentially Pisces. The song being about love as magical as in the folk tales, a bit otherworldly, a bit ethereal. The sense of oneness with nature we get both from the lyrics and the performance. The combination of modern and traditional, making the song, and the love it speaks of, feel timeless and eternal.

(Also, I’m a Pisces Venus and I love this song)

Who will qualify from ESC SF1 in 2023?

Eurovision is on! Rehearsals are on! We’ve seen most of them performing at the multiple preparties and the first clips (even super shots ones) are in! 

It’s time to predict who will qualify on May 9th from Semifinal 1! These are my predictions based on the reactions, comments, listens and clicks in social media, Youtube and Spotify.

Some I will get right, others I may not - that’s the risk you will take by continuing reading this. 

1. Norway - Alessandra - Queen of Kings

She’s IN. No question. HUUUUUUGE viral hit by now. There was some concern about Alessandra’s vocals (MGP used autotune) when performing live but she’s on point based on the first rehearsal clip. Visually they’re loyal to National Final one but her outfit is a bit different, she’s wearing a crown look a like hair band and there’s more light now on the stage. 

2. Malta - The Busker - Dance (our own party)

This is worst spot in semifinals to perform as second in Eurovision. Lots of good entries have failed because 15 other amazing songs will follow and people tend to forget. However, Malta’s lively and colourful performance does stand a chance. The song stands out with its saxophone sound. If this did go through would I be sad, definitely not but being where it is, second and between two dark songs (Norway, Serbia) I say this is OUT.

3. Serbia - Luke Black -  Samo mi se spava (Само ми се спава)

One of my faves this year but I know a lot of people who’re not warming up to this Hatari II. However, their staging looks improved and Luke’s performing very confident. This kind of dark pop is exciting for many! In Eurovision it doesn’t matter how many haters you have but how many lovers, based on the interest in Spotify / Youtube I’d say this might appeal enough voters to be IN.

4. Latvia - Sudden lights -  Aijā

Indieband with a strong chorus. In the national selection the staging didn’t impress me but this is one of my faves again. Lamps are there though but there’s a good energy in here which I hope will come across to the audience.  This is still boarderline, this can go to either direction. But I have faith so IN. 

5. Portugal - Mimicat -  Ai coração

Portugal has been topping their game in preparties and even though you wouldn’t like this kind cabaree music - this is very authentic, catchy, memorable. And she can sing and perform - true pro! The stage looks a bit empty without the couch but I do have faith in Portuguese staging skills because they have nailed it during the few previous years. I still say IN.

6. Ireland - Wild Youth - We are one

Why the producers put this at 6th? If this had been an opener for this semi Wild Youth could have had a chance. However, they’re going all the way with the staging, using every inch of that stage: we have golden body, pyros, stairs - we know the guy can sing but the song is a bit generetic and forgettable. This breaks my heart but OUT. 

7. Croatia - Let 3 -  Mama ŠČ!

A big fan favourite. Huge interest before going in to Eurovision, they also did well in the preparties. We saw some aspects from the pics and Tik Tok clip that we saw before (same LED screen, cannons). Not my personal favourite but a lot of people love this kind of quirky performance so IN.

8. Switzerland - Remo Forrer - Watergun

One of my personal faves this year but again - a lot of people don’t agree with me though. The anti-war song was actually written two years ago which I kind of hope would push some buttons among the voters. However, Switzerland was one of those unfortunate countries last year who went to Final with Jury votes only and received 0 points from audience. This time around Semifinals have only audience voting so I’m afraid there might be payback and especially since it’s another Swiss ballad. 

Staging like this can be strong but the clip didn’t convince me yet. Pretty dark and they have similar strings attached to the dancers as Finland had in UMK (why are you coping??). I love this but I say OUT. 

9. Israel - Noa Kirel - Unicorn

She’s IN. This is not my favourites to be honest, just because it’s so messy genre like. Israel was a bit of mystery to everyone because they didn’t participate to any preparties and they kept all their plans as a secret. But she sounds amazing and the Tik Tok clip and the photos promise us a spectacle. The seem to have a running unicorn in the LED screen, she’s in this bright box, upside down and in the end she’s making Chanel style break dance. This will please many for sure and high chances of becoming a top5 in the final. 

10. Moldova - Pasha Parfeni -  Soarele și luna

This is one of the most ethnic entries this year and Pasha Parfeni is no stranger to Eurovision as he represented Moldova also back in 2012. The song is memorable, it does stand out and the live performance even just from the pictures doesn’t disappoint. Moldova is a master of creating memorable performances even with a smaller budget and there’s no way that this didn’t go through. So IN.

11. Sweden - Loreen - Tattoo

Do I need to say this? IN. The LED sandwich so called what they used in Sweden was a lot bigger(16 m² ) but I don’t think the current size (6,25 m² ) will cause actual problems because the camera work will make it look larger. This is copy paste from Melodiefestivalen so pretty epic. A lot of people do complain however that Loreen is not bringing anything new to ESC as this does remind her victorious song Euphoria from decade ago. However, potential winning song for sure! 

12. Azerbaijan -  TuralTuranX -  Tell Me More

One of the indie entries we have this year. I quite like it but... this is not a crowd pleaser unfortunately and in Eurovision you kind of have to be. This is such a good feel song but no. Stating isn’t doing much either, they’re standing on the platform of spaped by the heart playing their quitars. Unless there is something major happening what wasn’t revealed in the Tik Tok clips. I’m sorry, OUT. 

13.  Czechia -  Vesna -  My Sister's Crown

There’s so much love for this entry but at the same time there’s talk that this might be the shock non-qualifier. They didn’t perform as well and confidently as people were expecting them to during the preparties. However, in their live rehearsals we see them wearing rose coloured outfits, they have long braids - there’s a message of we’re not your dolls combined with some doll movements so very strong female empowerment thing going on. This can get too messy but hard to say from the Tik Tok clip itself. I still belive this would be IN. 

14.  Netherlands -  Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper -  Burning Daylight

Another sleepy ballad. I don’t hate it. And to be honest this has the strongest ballad staging I’ve seen so far. Mia and Dion are standing on this moving platform and walking towards, around, from each other. This can be a moment, beautiful one. Their voices go nicely together. BUT this comes after a strong Czechia and before Finland. I don’t see this year being very kind to the ballads, people are clearly having more reactions (clicks, listens etc) towards the quirky songs of ESC 2023. I say OUT. 

15. Finland - Käärijä - Cha Cha Cha 

A big fan favourite when going in for the rehearsals. Many didn’t expect Käärijä’s team to change the stating at all actually because it was pretty damn good already at the UMK. However, they have upgraded it. They have this big wooden box on the stage, according to photos and the Tik Tok clip he’s in it at some point and also the dancers where they emerge at one point. The silhouette is awesome! Great add and super powerful! There’s pyro at the end also, colours of the rainbow - the human snake has movement. This is so good! If Finland doesn’t win the ESC alltogether I do belive this will make the televotes to explode at the semi for sure! IN!

man the quality this year is so high there’s so many i wanna include. i could make a whole other 10 out of honourable mentions. anyway happy eurovision week LET’S GO

10. Azerbaijan: Tell Me More - TuralTuranX

Much like Portugal’s entry last year this song is inner peace. I listen to this and I’m driving down a nice country road, windows open and the sun shining. Cute song. 9/10

9. Norway: Queen of Kings - Alessandra

THIS SLAPS SEVERELY. Always a sucker for viking-y entries. 9/10

8. The Netherlands: Burning Daylight - Mia Nicholai & Dion Cooper

This song’s pretty. I’ve heard a lot saying it’s clearly inspired by Arcade but I’d argue there’s def some from Calm After the Storm too (and not just because it’s another duet). 9.5/10

7. Australia: Promise - Voyager

This is what Gloryhammer would sound like without the d&d space knights and wizards aspect, and as a Gloryhammer fan I was on board immediately. The last minute and especially the ending kick ass so hard. Amazing. 9.5/10

6. Czechia: My Sister’s Crown - Vesna

This is just. Amazing. Incredible. They harmonise so well and the chorus is just. Damn bro. And 4 languages! My only tiny worry is translating it to stage (as usual I haven’t seen any pre-shows or anything). 9.5/10

5. Slovenia: Carpe Diem - Joker Out

A good fun pop song! Sounds a lot like the kind of boyband pop I listened to growing up. I love it so much. 9.5/10

4. Malta: Dance (Our Own Party) - The Busker

THAT SAXOPHONE FUCKS. 9.5/10

3. Austria: Who the Hell is Edgar? - Teya & Salena

This song is everything. Fun. Catchy. Silly. Satirical. I knock off 0.003 only because it is in fact so catchy that whenever my brain drifts the Poe Poe Poe sneaks up on me and won’t leave. 9.997/10

2. Portugal: Ai Coração - Mimicat

Another super fun entry! This sounds like something from a musical and I can’t help but get up and dance along whenever I hear it. 10/10

1. Finland: Cha Cha Cha - Käärijä

Remember I said that the quality this year is so damn high? Yeah but this. This is the only one that matters. He is everything. The prescence. The outfit. The performance. The music. It’s 2 genres in 1 and they fit together perfectly. INCREDIBLE. I wish I could experience watching the UMK performance for the first time again (I suppose I will in a way tomorrow). 10/10

Switzerland: REMO FORRER - Watergun

Switzerland serves us a pretty, rather powerful song that stands up from start to finish. I like the atmosphere, nothing revolutionary but it's a correct entry. It's much better than "Boys Do Cry", however qualification for the final is absolutely not guaranteed for the country, it's a song for the juries, but this year only the televoting will count in the semi-finals, so I can only say good luck to Switzerland in the first semi-final.

Austria: TEYA & SALENA - Who The Hell Is Edgar ?

Great job Austria! “Who The Hell Is Edgar?” is stupidly catchy, wildly addictive and ironically memorable. It looks like the song sounds like a joke but if you pay attention to the lyrics, it's way smarter than you think. If the showmanship and delivery works in Liverpool, then Teya & Salena will bring Austria back to the final for sure. Deserves a top 10 at least.

Israel: NOA KIREL - Unicorn

What can I say about "Unicorn" ? It looks like they took several pieces of existing songs and then put them together to create a song, it sounds like a mashup of several tracks. This entry is not coherent at all, it sounds overproduced and too messy. Some positive notes: it's powerful and catchy, especially the last part. But it's not the best title of Noa Kirel who is far too talented for this song.

United Kingdom: MAE MULLER - I Wrote A Song

The UK made the correct choice. It's a very decent, radio-friendly, memorable and catchy song with a lot of personality. It won't win the contest but with the right staging, Mae Muller can make a top 15 in the final.

Sweden: LOREEN - Tattoo

Rating: 9 / 10

Loreen is back in the contest (at the expense of the Swedish kids who wanted Theoz instead for Sweden) and obviously ready to win again. “Tattoo” reminds me of “Neon Lights”, a song by the artist that I love. It's a not-so-original sequel to "Euphoria" but it's still a powerful and memorable entry with a lot of impact and soul. The jury will love the track, but what about the public ? Hard to say, the televoting does not seem to be acquired in advance for Sweden, Loreen should however finish on the podium without any problem.

Portugal: MIMICAT - Ai Coração

Portugal had a crush on Mimicat and it's justified. "Ai Coração" is perhaps one of the most Portuguese entries in the history of the contest. It's very fun, festive and very danceable. The country isn't there to make up the numbers at Liverpool, but how will the Europeans welcome it ? It would be criminal to leave this song in its semi-final, Mimicat deserves the final. Força Portugal !

Greece: VICTOR VERNICOS - What They Say

It's average. It's a decent entry and there's potential but that's it. I very easily forget the song even after several listenings, it's not a good sign. It lacks boldness and originality. It will be hard to qualify for the final for Greece.

Azerbaijan: TURALTURANX - Tell Me More

Musically, it's listenable and nice but it's a song that is too simple, too wise, too nice, not at all competitive and memorable, there's no impact. I appreciate the fact that Azerbaijan is trying something else this year, unfortunately it doesn't work. Unless the Azeri broadcaster buys tons of prepaid foreign SIM cards, the country risks staying in the semi-finals this year.

Armenia: BRUNETTE - Future Lover

I appreciate the fact that the song remains in Brunette's musical universe. It's a nice modern ballad that really kicks in from the moment the artist starts rapping and the last chorus is very powerful and sounds victorious. It's a good entry, Armenia will go to the final.

It was time for Giga Kukhianidze (the guy behind most Georgian Junior Eurovision songs) to be involved in a Georgian Senior Eurovision song as a composer. "Echo" is amazing, it's very competitive, powerful and memorable with a lot of impact. Call me delusional but I feel like Georgia can win the senior contest for the first time since its debut.

thoughts on portugal's eurovision song this year?

There were a lot of people campaigning for the winner so it was very much fair even if it wasn't really my choice.

There were a lot of great songs this year — despite what some Portuguese people on here say (some people on here love to complain about every single song like it is the end of the world).

Opinions on the winner specifically:

Good: Good dance song, well interpreted, it's in Portuguese

Cons: Not really a representation of our culture neither musically nor lyrically, lyrics don't say anything meaningful, I don't think it stands out that much

To me it's an ok choice. I prefer it to an English song or Nasci Maria (that song repeated so much...)

My favourite song didn't make it to the final and in even of the final Ai Coração wasn't one of my favourites. But I'll admit I think my favourite for the finals wasn't a very good Eurovision entry. I really liked O Povo from the finals but it's a song that doesn't translate well to outside audiences. Everyone will always say "It's another ballad!" As if when choosing a song you're not choosing if a song is good or not not, not if it's slow or fast, and they'd miss the context of it because it's in Portuguese and even the translation might not be the most straight forward thing because of cultural context. It's a song about people from what we PALOPs (Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa aka African Countries with Portuguese as an Official Language) that have emigrated from their country to Portugal because they want to have a better life + suffering one feels with that but also the sufferiment that people there still feel on the daily and how one must try to find love and happiness in those difficult times. Because admitting "what I want I can't get on my own country" can be something rather difficult and painful. The music style of that song is simple but it clearly shows where the singer is from (Angola) and the interpretation is so so good and definitely the best interpretation in the whole competition (it's a song contest not a singing contest though so this doesn't automatically mean it's the best... But to me it was pretty good.) I also think it's a better representation of our culture because we have a lot of people emigrating here from those countries and they very much are part of what we consider a Portuguese experience. As my dad likes to say "We need to start sending these folks too. They're portuguese too."

My thoughts on the Final Eurovision songs in order of performance tonight. Keep in mind, I haven't listened to most of these songs more than once and I'm an unapologetic ballad enjoyer.

Overall, I genuinely think, there are so many amazing singers this year, I was super surprised during the semi finals. Their voices are incredible.

Who the Hell is Edgar? - Austria It grows on me, wasn't an instant love and definitely not my favourite but it's fun.

Ai Coração - Portugal I unironically really enjoy this one. Plus, it's in Portuguese so that's an extra point for me.

Watergun - Switzerland It's probably controversial for me to say but I really really like this one. Is it a bit tone-deaf? Uh year, definitely but I do have this in my favourites regardless of that.

Solo - Poland Now this one is really growing on me. Is it one of the best songs? no. Is it groundbreaking? absolutely not but it's a fun song to casually listen to. I can definitely imagine this will get played on the radio a lot after Eurovision.

Samo Mi Se Spava - Serbia Not my cup of tea, I fear. I don't hate it and don't dislike it as much as I did when I first heard it. Plus, it has the native language so that's a plus point.

Évidemment - France Just listened to it for the very first time and I think I like it. It's not a winner song but it's not bad.

Break A Broken Heart - Cyprus His voice really surprised me in the semi-final and I'm glad Cyprus qualified because I really like this song. Yes, it's a "boring" ballad but whatever.

Eaea - Spain Not a song I would actively search for to listen to again but it's not awful either.

Tattoo - Sweden Why the hell did no one tell me that LOREEN is back?! Another "boring" ballad that I really adore. Her voice is incredible and I'm glad she's back but I understand why people find this boring.

Duje - Albania If you can be sure of something, then it's that I rarely vibe with Albania's entries, this year isn't much different. Although, I have to admit I already like it better than the first time I listened to it. I like the chorus and they sing in Albanian which is pretty nice.

Due Vite - Italy Just heard it for the first time and it's really nice. I don't think it'll stand out much but I like it a lot.

Bridges - Estonia A lovely ballad but I fear it's a bit forgettable.

Cha Cha Cha - Finland Now let me tell you, I didn't like this one at all the first time I heard it. The last Chorus was fine to me but everything else was a big no. Since then, it was grown on me A LOT. Now, I really enjoy it and I can't sit still when this plays. I definitely see the appeal.

My Sister's Crown - Czechia I actually kinda like this? I like the chorus, at least. I love that they sing in four different languages. Hello? That's incredible.

Promise - Australia I'm actually 50/50 about this. I love the retro vibe, it's fun and vibey but the metal part is not my thing at all. So I don't like that but other than that part, I enjoy this one.

Because of You - Belgium It's vibey and funky, I enjoy it but I don't love it.

Future Lover - Armenia Another "boring" ballad that I actually enjoy. Plus, there are Armenian parts in this one which sounds lovely. It's not in my favorites and I think it won't stand out but it's a nice song.

Soarele şi Luna - Moldova This one is super interesting and I'm unsure how I feel about it. I don't dislike it but I don't love it either. But he sings in Romanian, plus point, and it's kinda vibey so yeah, I don't know.

Heart of Steel - Ukraine A great entry. I actually really like it and it will go in my playlist. I don't love all parts of the song but it's a good one. Plus, there's Ukrainian.

Queen of Kings - Norway I'm unsure about this one, honestly. I like it a lot but I don't love it. At least not after listening to it twice. But it has me bopping along.

 Blood & Glitter - Germany Just listened to it for the first time and it's not for me. I'm just not a metal fan but it has good parts that I enjoy.

Stay - Lithuania And another "boring" ballad. I like her voice a lot and I do enjoy the song.

Unicorn - Israel I'm 50/50 about it. I like the beginning, the pre-chorus and the chorus but I don't love the second half of the song. Maybe it's a song that'll need to grow on me.

Carpe Diem - Slovenia I actually really enjoy this one a lot. It's really funky and kinda fun and they sing in Slovenian. But I don't know if it'll be memorable in all of this. I hope so.

Mama ŠČ! - Croatia Not for me, I fear. I don't hate it but I probably wouldn't listen to it again after this.

I Wrote a Song - UK Apparently, everyone here hates this. I don't know. I don't hate it, I don't love it either. It's vibey but pretty forgettable.

tenha coisas pra deixar por aqui que passaram pela minha cabeça a um tempo. muita coisa negativa e positiva tbm.

primeiro. li minha versão de você, da(s) christina lauren (são duas autoras). não ironicamente, mudou minha vida... pra BEM melhor. something shifted inside me that made my thoughts go towards good things now. até comecei a seguir páginas de coisas positivas no ig (amando, sem piada). o livro é a coisa mais linda do mundo. tem muito sofrimento durante o desenvolvimento da história de tanner e sebastian, mas no fim eles conseguem ficar juntos (uau spoiler), o que, de alguma forma, me deu esperança. de um amor. de uma vida. de algo que eu ainda não sei, mas enchei um pouquinho mais um potinho de esperança que eu tenho em algum lugar within me. foi bem inesquecível, na vdd, a experiência que essa leitura me trouxe. recomendo a todos, de coração.

me causou algumas discussões internas sobre religião - eu estava lendo nos msm dias da 1. semana santa e 2. nos dias que trabalhei na paixao de cristo aqui da cidade. foi muito difícil ver todo o sofrimento (n tem outra definição pra isso) que o sebastian passou com a familia mormon. eu nem sou de uma familia tao religiosa assim, mas levei algumas facadas aqui e ali na história. no fim, cheguei a uma conclusão: de fato, não me encontro mais na religião como antes. comentei até no twitter (para os meus 20 seguidores que nem viram oq eu falei). se eu precisasse tanto me encontrar na religião, seria muito doloroso. sei que existem pessoas lgbtq+ dentro desse meio, que se sentem muito movidas pelo divino, mas meu problema (um deles) são os dogmas da religião (eu era cristão, nem especifiquei). desejo tudo de bom a essas pessoas, mas acho que não daria certo pra mim porque, mesmo que eu realmente quisesse estar dentro da igreja, me incomodaria MUITO ter que dividir um espaço com pessoas que usam da mesma fé que eu pra justamente embasar homofobia, transfobia e outras coisas tbm, principalmente tendo toda a visão crítica que tenho do movimento hoje. sem contar que, numa igreja de cidade de interior, isso ia ser jogado de lado e todo mundo seguiria suas vidas ne, mas o viadinho la de joelho orando ia ficar com esses pensamentos pra vida inteira (porque fica la guardado, ah se fica).

claro, pode surgir cristão progressista de qualquer buraco dizendo "mas você não precisa ir pra igreja. deus te ouve de qualquer lugar"... well this kinda helps me not gonna lie MAS me sinto mais confortável dentro da noção agnóstica da coisa, ainda vou me acostumar com essa ideia.

ai temos as outras esferas da minha vida ne: academia, trabalho, e universidade (que divide em semestre e projeto). a academia eh o menor dos problemas, porque na verdade não está sendo problema, está sendo ótimo.

no trabalho though... it's going pretty fine actually, just being dramatic. mas assim, tiraram as comissões até segunda ordem e não sabemos como vai ficar, portanto 1. estou triste com isso porque, mesmo que eu não recebesse muito, era uma ajuda e 2. como não vai ter comissão, não vai ter produção da minha parte ;) não acho ruim apenas no sentido da produção, porque, perto das outras queridas colegas de escritório eu produzo muito pouco, porque depende da minha conversa com o cliente, e eu não sou bom vendedor, só dentro do possivel... mas espero que dê certo. se a comissão virar coletiva, eu me empenho mais, porque não quero que a falha da equipe venha pra cima de mim, JAMAIS.

agora universidade, tá díficil a situação, em diferentes aspectos (pra mim, na verdade, especificamente). primeiro, o projeto. está sendo minha parte favorita, porque eu gosto muito do tema e fez eu me interessar mais sobre políticas educacionais, e educação, no geral. vou apresentar meu seminário parcial na terça, espero que dê tudo certo, e acho que vai, tô bem tranquilo quanto a isso. sobre o semestre? de mal a pior. teoria dos números eu tirei um dois pra primeira prova e cálculo avançado NOW LISTEN a prova não estava ruim, mas, por conta de outras coisas (muitas coisas) não consegui estudar da melhor forma. essas duas coisas tem mexido muito comigo. ratinho da área acadêmica e sempre sendo de boa nas disciplinas, passar por esses dois empecilhos me desestruturou. isso é bem besta na verdade, se você parar pra pensar. ainda tenho duas notas em cada disciplina pra poder recuperar, sendo que, na verdade, nem recebi a nota de cálculo ainda. mas teoria tá nos meus pés me mostrando que eu não sei nada, eu me sinto uma PORTA. não sou assim.

e eu tenho a opção de não ser assim. só estudar ué. aproveitar bastante meus 10 minutos livres por dia pra dar um gás nos estudos pra prova (contém ironia pesada, tipo, toneladas)... isso tem me cansado muito.

lamento muito ao leitor (quem? não sei) pelo próximo parágrafo. começou a tocar working for the knife, da mitski.

eu tenho passado tempos cansado demais. de tudo. de tudo mesmo. minha rotina diária sendo acordar às 5h da manhã pra academia-trabalho-2h livres-trabalho-ufcg e, finalmente, chegar em casa. tenho 1h até bater 23h, quando, em teoria, eu já tenho que dormir. eu sinto que não consigo ir bem na universidade esse período porque a carga de estudos pra essas duas disciplinas aumentou, pra eu realmente conseguir passar de boa. mas com que tempo vou estudar? o que me sobra é o dia e meio que tenho em forma de fim de semana, que se ocupa pelas coisas da universidade. me cansa, porque eu quero uma carreira acadêmica, mas o sistema não quer que eu tenha. se eu preciso melhorar na universidade, precisaria usar um tempo que estou no trabalho, e não dá. alguns dias vou ter que sair pra resolver coisas do projeto, e eles deixaram eu me ausentar!! pelo menos uma vitória. e vou aproveitar bem.

tudo isso segue da minha cobrança acadêmica (que eu mesmo faço). a primeira pessoa na fila pra me pressionar sobre meus resultados sou EU.

mas além disso, sabe o que me chateia? é que, nas perspectivas das avaliações, eu estou falhando, mas eu APRENDI TUDO O QUE EU TINHA PRA APRENDER. sabe, vai se fuder. o projeto é o que tem sido minha luz, porque, pelo menos NELE, eu sei que eu tô me saindo bem.

enfim... tudo isso né, coisa BESTA. por isso que me dá raiva de gente rica. não, e eu podia sei lá trancar o curso se eu tivesse alguma perspectiva de crescimento profissional, mas não tenho. vou ficar pra sempre num salário minimo se eu não terminar meu curso. tenho os concursos que eu me inscrevi, mas eu não consigo estudar... porque eu não tenho tempo.

e sem ironia, tudo isso seria muito mais leve se, pelo menos, a carga horária do trabalho fosse menor. até se eu não trabalhasse no sábado, ajudava.

lembro ano passado quando me matei de estudar em EDO, indo dormir de 2h da manha pra acordar às 7h pra trabalhar. ninguem, NINGUEM merece passar por isso. eu ODEIO ser taxado como guerreiro por trabalhar e estudar, porque eu não devia sofrer desse jeito pra construir meu futuro. queria ter uma gota de dignidade às vezes.

ai enfim... vou tentar ver o lado mais positivo dessas coisas agora, mesmo que tenha um eu chaterrimo la dentro da minha cabeça me cutucando dizendo que tô saindo do controle. mas vai dar certo, vou mentir até dar. falta so 40 dias pro periodo acabar, e minhas férias vão ser em junho, e o próximo periodo vai ser bem mais leve, e se eu reprovar teoria eu limpo curriculo so por ela. tudo tem uma rota de escape. vai dar certo. queria ouvir isso de alguém, me abraçando, mas vai eu mesmo.

falando em alguém me abraçando. o livro me deixou tão carente. tive uma crise quinta de noite. depois melhorei, mas aconteceu.

porque na verdade juntou o livro + um tiktok que eu vi acho que já faz bem um mês. o homem dizendo que tinha 28 anos e nunca esteve em um relacionamento.

eu SEI for a fact que eu nunca me apaixonei e ACHO que ninguem me apaixonou por mim, pelo menos nao disseram ne... mas é uma coisa muito estranha, um sentimento que sobe, dá um refluxo pensar isso às vezes. eu acho que, além de desejo, além do que eu quero na minha vida, a primeira coisa que eu quero, como prioridade, é me sentir amado romanticamente. nunca senti isso por ninguem.

claro, já surgiu desejo, tesão por algum homem. comum na minha vida, inclusive. tem a questão de eu "me apaixonar" pelos heteros que me tratam feito gente, mas depois eu me puxo de volta pra realidade... já fantasiei com um querido da universidade, mas vamos deixando de lado.

voltando, não acho que eu pratique essa prioridade, sinto que, ao longo da minha vida, outras coisas foram empurrando essa necessidade de ser amado lá pra trás. minha noção de estudos, de formação, de futuro, minha homossexualidade... acho que, se me acontecesse hoje, agora, de eu me apaixonar, sei lá, alguem me pedir em namoro, eu não ia querer, porque eu não tenho tempo. can you believe it? sem contar que nunca beijei nem transei, às vezes me sinto atrasado, mas sei que não tem uma data limite pra isso, mas bem que ja podia ter acontecido ne, orr...

mas eu quero muito passar por isso. mesmo que, de alguma forma, traga problemas, ainda seria uma experiência sabe. mesmo que nem dure. uma musica de alguem aí que diz "melhor sofrer por amor do que nunca ser amado" (ai de wesley safado nao aguentooo)

                 Peguei meu celular e passei para os lados as fotos de três anos atrás quando eu ainda estava no Brasil tentando a minha vida como modelo, mas nada deu certo, então tive que vir para o Reino Unido tentar uma vida digna, porém tudo mudou quando vi um anuncio em outdoor dizendo que se procurava backing, era o meu sonho, mas precisava de um emprego e estava ai uma oportunidade para ganhar dinheiro e investir na minha carreira como modelo só que eu não contava que iria apaixonar-me pela musica e por o meu chefe, nada mais que Harry Styles, o ex-integrante da One Direction.

           Fui tirada dos meus pensamentos quando a empresaria do Harry entrou no camarim e chamou todas as meninas para a apresentação. Passei as mãos por todo o meu vestido preto para tentar desamassar, olhei-me novamente no espelho para ter certeza absoluta que a minha maquiagem estava boa.

             A apresentação foi ótima e como sempre eu ficava na parte de trás o mais longe possível de todas as meninas, eu sentia-me triste por não ser tão valorizada quando elas, mas precisava do dinheiro e precisava pagar meus estudos e minhas aulas de canto. Assim que todas as meninas foram sair, sentei-me no sofá e pus meus fones de ouvidos e coloquei na primeira musica da minha playlist, Sign Of The Times, quando eu escutava as musicas do Harry eu sinto-me livre e feliz, a voz dele me faz voltar no tempo e relembrar todos os meus momentos felizes e ter forças para continuar sonhando.

           Abri os meus olhos, pois senti alguém olhando para mim. Meu coração quase saiu pela a boca quando vi Harry parado na minha frente olhando-me com um sorriso lindo. Raramente o encontrava normalmente ele fica em um camarim ou ensaiando para o seu próximo show, mas sempre que possível ele passa nos camarins para pergunta como estávamos e se tudo estava acorrendo bem, lembro-me de ter conversando uma vez com ele por mais de trinta segundos.

- The bullets? – Harry completou a musica sorrindo. – O que você faz aqui sozinha? – Ele se sentou ao meu lado.

           Eu não sabia como responder aquilo, para falar a verdade esqueci ate mesmo como é o meu nome. – As meninas foram sair e eu preferi ficar aqui. – Tirei os meus fones e coloquei encima da mesa de centro.

- Você tem uma voz linda. – Ele sorriu. – Qual é o seu nome?

           Respirei fundo antes de respondê-lo. – Muito obrigada. Meu nome é S/N.

           Harry estendeu as mãos. – Muito prazer. – Ele fez uma pausa. – Me desculpa por não saber quem você é, é que são tantas pessoas ao meu redor que as vez esqueço até mesmo qual é o meu nome. – Sua voz soava lindamente perfeita. Como ele conseguia ser tão lindo?

- Esta tudo bem, eu entendo. – Sorri.

- O que você acha de um dia cantar comigo, tipo um dueto?

           Okay. Eu realmente não estava nem um pouco preparada para esse tipo de pergunta. – Harry eu sou apenas backing vocal, não estou preparada para isso e além do mais tem tantas pessoas famosas querendo cantar com você.

- Uma chance apenas, se você não gostar você pode voltar para o emprego, mas eu peço a você apenas uma chance de mostrar para todos a sua voz.

           Era impossível dizer não para ele e eu sabia que as intenções do Harry são as melhores, e vendo por outro lado e uma chance e tanto de mostrar que eu tenho talento e posso ser reconhecida. – Okay, eu aceito.

          DIAS DEPOIS...

             Depois de fazer mais de cinco apresentações juntos, todos amaram os nossos vocais juntos e duas gravadoras já chamaram-me para gravar CDs e me lançar no mundo da musica e Harry estava ajudando-me nessa nova caminhada e mesmo apaixonada por ele ainda tinha receio de dizer a verdade para Harry, já que depois de passarmos tanto tempo juntos estamos começando uma amizade maravilhosa, então é melhor isso do que nada.

- Okay como estou? – Olhei-me no espelho e perguntei para mim mesma.

           Harry me chamou para um jantar para falarmos de negócios, e mesmo que eu soubesse que é uma reunião a trabalho queria está bonita.

             Harry sentou a minha frente ele parecia está nervoso por algum motivo a sua mão não estava de suar por um minuto até pensei que ele estava passando mal. – Você tem certeza que está bem? – Tomei um copo do meu suco e olhei seria para ele.

- Sim, eu apenas estou... – Ele fez uma pausa. – Tudo bem.

           Comecei a rir dele. – Harry eu conheço você a seis meses e eu sei que você não está bem. – Coloquei minha mão encima da sua. – Pode falar o que você tem.

           Harry se levantou da mesa rapidamente e ficou parado ao meu lado. – Isso provavelmente vai ser a coisa mais estranha que já fiz em toda a minha vida, mas eu estou apaixonado.

           Imediatamente meu coração parou. Harry estava apaixonado por alguém que provavelmente não sou eu, e é claro que esse dia chegaria. Harry é lindo, educado, romântico e famoso, quem não se apaixonaria por alguém assim, mas eu me apaixonei pela a pessoa que ele é não por sua fama. – Ah é? -  Sorri sem graça. – Quem é a sortuda.

           Harry tirou uma flor do vaso de que estava encima da nossa mesa e ajoelhou na minha frente. – Você.

           Meus olhos se encheram de lagrima imediatamente e a minha primeira reação foi beija-lo com toda a vontade que senti durante todo esse tempo.

- Eu sou completamente apaixonado você desde da primeira vez que eu te vi, você estava sentada no camarim longe de todas as meninas e apenas olhava o seu celular e sorria, e agora e eu entende porque eu demorei tanto para gostar de alguém assim como eu gosto de você, pois sempre foi você. – Harry se levantou do chão e eu levantei juntamente com ele.
