hide and heartbreak for roberto?
Oh goodness, Roberto, my good friend Roberto whom I haven't really thought about in two years whoops.
Hide I keep. Sort of making the Martinez family background more upsetting without stating things because I feel like it wouldn't go over well. Like I believe Albert and Roberto are Sofia's only surviving children (why do I keep leaving people with sons?) and also Roberto at the Encanto's founding is...younger than I initially thought, like 19 or so. (yes this means he proposed to milf Alma at age ~22 idk) So he's sort of full tears of a clown, this relentlessly optimistic force trying to move past a lot of tragedy, grateful for what he has because he's seen what happens if you let it consume you. It took his father, it took his brother, it's not going to get him or anyone else he loves.
Heartbreak Which leads us straight to this: Albert's descent into alcoholism and despair broke him a bit. They were safe, they had a place they could build a life for their children, why could he not keep going? The answers were complicated, and not realy communicated and my GOD I need to write the Albert fic but. That's his pain, that is big brother didn't have the faith or trust to see the miracle's promise through. It's quiet and ugly and keeps him up at night.

No this is not the Emily Windsnap movie...but I wish it was!!! If they film how Emily’s parents met, it’d look just like this show.
Clips from Dyesebel (2014).
Quotes from The Tail of Emily Windsnap (2003).

ASCE Champions Continuing Education for Engineers
Tumblr media
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is an international organization that has supported civil engineers on a global scale since 1852. Among its many services, ASCE provides a wide range of educational courses and programs to advance its members’ professional development further. Its educational opportunities include online courses, webinars, seminars, and annual conferences. For example, ASCE offers construction certificate programs that cover infrastructure and building projects.
Each construction certificate program is available online. Attendees can complete the on-demand programs at their own pace. To obtain the certificate, attendees must pass an assessment at the end of the program. Assessment typically entails simply multiple choice questions. Attendees earn 2.6 continuing education units (CEU) upon completing the program.
The Construction Engineering certificate program tackles the fundamentals of construction contracts and administration. It consists of two core courses focusing on contract administration and project planning. Engineers who take the course can choose one of two tracks based on their interests. They can either select the Unit Price track or the Lump Sum track. Additionally, they complete two elective courses, such as Alternative Project Delivery.
In addition to certificate programs, ASCE delivers live seminars addressing topical areas of civil engineering. In December, ASCE is holding a face-to-face seminar to discuss the fundamentals of earthquake engineering. The seminar aims to inform attendees about structural basics related to seismic building design.
Live webcasts allow attendees to benefit from ASCE expertise remotely. For instance, ASCE recently updated webcast sessions exploring dam and levee safety. It also added new sessions detailing design-build contracting for public works projects, the design of foundations for coastal flooding, and applied structural vibration analysis.
Although members can access these paid services, they are also eligible to choose up to 10 webinars for free. Webinars span various topic areas, from architectural and environmental engineering to transportation.
Furthermore, ASCE provides on-site professional training for groups. More than 300 organizations from 17 countries signed up for ASCE training services. Their construction and development training programs help attendees better understand construction costs, management, and construction site safety. Other training programs tackle water systems, tunnel design, and bridge rehabilitation.
The ASCE Practice of Engineering (PE) exam review series helps attendees prepare for their exams. The four-part series covers key areas of engineering: electrical systems, construction administration, mechanical systems, and structural systems. The series instructors highlight important strategies to complete the exam successfully.
Engineers with a specific interest in technical knowledge and advances in civil engineering would benefit from attending the ASCE committee techsessions. Committee techsessions run for one to three hours, are open to members and non-members, and end with a post-session assessment. They are delivered in person or virtually. Recent virtual techsessions discussed natural infrastructure, fire engineering, and sustainable approaches to civil engineering projects. Techsession attendees can earn professional development hour (PDH) credits.
ASCE members interested in sharing their engineering expertise can sign up to become an official ASCE instructor. ASCE instructors have the opportunity to promote the latest civil engineering technology while increasing their client base. They also become involved with ASCE committee activities and forums.

"Your power is meant to save people" - Mr. Legend
Yeah, yeah, but how? If I, say, can turn into a bassarisk, how does that save people? I'd be more fit for robbing people, wouldn't I? But see, there's these things called earthquakes, explosions, and other rubble-causing incidents, and that's when I can help. By becoming something so small and light and able to shimmy through cracks in the earth and work in low light, I could help reach people that are trapped and bring them food and water until rescue workers or other heroes can reach them, or even bring something like an airline oxygen mask to them if they're in a poorly-ventilated space. (Yeah, those things are genius. There's no oxygen tanks on the plane above them. Fun fact.)
That quote from Mr. Legend - fallen hero though he is, in more ways than one - has gotten me thinking at times about how the villains' and other NEXT's powers could save people. Spoilers ahead, and this is based on my limited knowledge of only having watched the anime, read the manga, and owning a manga version of the first film. So...yeah. If there's any new villains in the other films, like there was in the first, feel free to mention them if you're a bigger T&B weeb than me in a reblog. Just be warned that you'll be spoiling them for me.
Tony: Explained in the manga. Being able to move the biggest things is amazing, and helped keep an ice rink from toppling over. Definitely going to be a Crusher For Justice when he grows up, though. Some destruction just can't be avoided, I'm afraid.
Robin Baxter: Switching places with people can definitely help save people who think their lives aren't worth it. A few swaps and you could negate all g-force-inflicted damage. Either that or a suit that can absorb it so that you only have to do the one.
Pauly: Turning yourself into diamond? Just stay out of fires and you could be a good human shield without getting too hurt.
Lunatic: Essentially could work in a duo with Fire Emblem, if he weren't a judge who just so happened to kill his father Mr. Legend when his powers manifested.
The HERO Academy students: Explained and seen in action in the manga, and it's my headcanon they became the Second League.
Edward: Seen in action in the manga when he and Origami went underground to survive an explosion.
The Mayor's Son: When he grows up, whatever telekinetics do best!
Lies, Danger, and Money/Powers: Bodyguards. Definitely bodyguards.
Kriem: Being able to control things you put your hair into, with the ability to use range extenders, can definitely help keep people off the battlefield. A power for war, perhaps, but saving lives nonetheless.
Jake Martinez: Being able to read minds and deflect things with force fields would have made him more than capable of defusing shooter situations. It's unfortunate that he had such a God Complex (and desecrated an image of the Blessed Mother in the manga) when dealing with other people...er, "insects." His childhood friend from the manga also had the mind-reading power, but of people he touched, and had a second power that we never got to see because of the fact that Jake killed him, though whether it was by accident is debatable. His abusive father also didn't help. Great potential that went completely to waste.
That NEXT who could change the color of his skin: Solving racism.
The kid who could repair things within five minutes of being broken: Natural medic as we saw in the manga. (Also, what's with time-influenced powers and five minutes?)
The Next who could turn invisible: Perfect stealth, as long as he holds his breath and there's no infrared cameras.
The NEXT Kaede copied who could turn magnetic: Climb a metal surface and help people down, or steal a shooter's gun from him.
Mr. Maverick: He could definitely help trauma victims.
If there's any I missed from these sources, please let me know!
