i’m a little late to this, but i’ll point you toward three of my faves! the perfect trifecta to tuck in and read late into the night. (and please let it be known i haven’t partaken in hacks fic in quite awhile, so i’m sure many more masterpieces have since been published.)

triple cherries in the playline by @ludling - literally anything by ludling is a work of art, but i remember reading this for the first time and being absolutely bowled over by everything about it. such a fantastic piece of writing.

Phil and the Avanomaly (aka the funniest joke in the world) by @fleaflofloyd - this caught me at the exact time i needed it, and i regard it much like a piece of art you think of out of the blue every once in awhile—i can remember each color and every single stroke. still gets me emotional! highly recommend.

you can lay your hands on me by @nakedmonkey - i believe this is one of the first alex fics i ever read, and thank GOD for that, because everything she writes is so tonally perfect and effortlessly wonderful. truly a fic that will never go out of style & i’ll come back to again and again.

Disclaimer: I would like to begin this email thread by saying if you didn’t want to receive emails from me you shouldn’t have given me your email to begin with.

Joke of the chain: Hear about the new restaurant called Karma....There’s no menu: You get what you deserve. Trip to NYC: New York was not what I expected. Of course it smelled & there were a lot of rats but I actually really loved it there. Huge fan of Kelvin being down af to do anything and a bigger fan of Stevin and Mina. I can’t wait until October 7th to see Jack Harlow there and have a weekend with 7. I found the coolest decorations for my new apartment and I just need frames for them now, and I got a special edition Spider-Man comic. Kelvin and I spent some quality time together this weekend and if he doesn’t hate me after spending four hours with me both ways, it’s safe to say Kelvin is never getting sick of me. The bar we went to was called The Vig Bar and walking there for 20 mins was almost worth losing a toe..the drinks were disgustingly strong.

Shefali Roast: Fiona asked me if she should go see Ewan McGregor this weekend, and little ole me confused Obi Wan with that boxer/wrestler/fighter from Ireland. I'm totally blanking on names and I can't tell if it's because I'm getting old or if my brain is fried from all the boozing I've been doing.

Kelli Talk : Everyone please pray for our queen Kelli who is now living with three boys until after Labor Day weekend. Being a physical touch girlie, I made her hold my hand today...let me know why neither of us have any f'n circulation? Boy update: Everyone welcome Alex to the chain. He is extremely excited to read the tea. Also; I left my purse at his apartment after my sneaky link & I swear I’ve never felt like more of an idiot considering not even 24 hours before that, I left my purse in Kelvin’s car after he dropped me off. Thank you, T, for driving/making me drive to go get it. I’m never doing that again.

TV Provider Update: HBOMax currently has the best selection of new shows and movies. Will keep you updated considering it changes every few weeks after they took down the Dark Knight Rises, I’ve never been Pro-HBO but they brought back some classics.

Pop culture Update: Jeanette Mcurdy (is that how you spell her name¿ I definitely messed that up) released a book and she basically talked about how much she resented Ariana Grande to the point where she heard a song of hers play on the radio and she started bawling her eyes out. Not Ariana’s fault obviously but Nickelodeon basically forced her to turn down movie roles because of her Sam and Cat contract but would let Ariana miss weeks of work for singing. It’s really sad when you think about it.

November/December plans: I was thinking of getting tickets to go see Celtics/Bulls game in November at TD Garden and I’m 90% down to send it but no one ask to go with me unless you’ll drop the $400 now. You already know I’m so petty that I’ll go by myself and watch the Bulls lose. I’m also down for the Celtics/Heat game in December, but I don’t have a grudge against the Heat. Serious inquiries only.

Amendment: I actually went to buy the tickets but I couldn't find my debit card so now I'm impulsive AND upset. Will try again tomorrow.

Catherine Update: 

Friend update: 7 is sick, Thomas and X are probably fine. Kiersten is headed to the cape this week. Anthony and X might live together. X is still so sexy. Kelvin listened to 2 hours of Taylor Swift with me this weekend. Mina has my glycolic acid toner and probably will never use it (I recommend that he does). Kelli is living with her boyfriend. Catherine might go see Alesso tmr. Fiona quit her job (congratulate her). Lynn saw The Weeknd in Dallas, she’s also a reels girlie. Tyler now has an apartment in Chicago and has a blanket and his couch ready for me. Mina Shehata is doing well, I miss him dearly, does anyone remember the first email I sent out (the one with the Holiday Muffin recipe), I’m still so touched that he chose to use that recipe and made it to top two in his baking competition.

letter from my diss tutor.... keep reading for some updates + plans for next couple weeks

going to be reading the texts he recommended here, in order 2 prepare for writing stage. reading inventing the future by alex williams and nick srineck rn... been reading it for like 3 weeks.. dont know why i decided to take that on in the middle of my diss. so yeah. ill be reading these: dylan thomas piece, humdog’s pandora vox, and my boyfriend came back from the war. i will also finish exploration of electronic labyrinth 

in terms of the commons.. probs pirate philosophy and hacker manifesto by mckenzie wark. dont know if ill have time for both but ill try. also the electronic disturbance + hakim bey

will be printing out the cybernetic hypothesis for a thorough theory challenge 

ultimately i think i need to just start writing which is so freaking contradictory to everything i just said. theres just so many beautiful and cool texts on this, i cant stop . i guess in the end i am more of an absorber and curator of information, and maybe a distributor, but definitely not a primary source in the sense that i like to speak thru 1000 other voices. i dont know if thats a sign of no originality or if its just what everyone is like under all their hyperpersonal semiotics. elliott said i could write a book about this stuff later on. but i know later on imma be like. cool now give me somethig else. it feels like i should write the book now. lol  . but i cant. so i just need to ? read and write at the same time ? and use the extended reading to brush back over the dust of what ive written and carve it out more clearly. i think if i did it that way - wrote a majority of the paper in about a week’s time, then continued reading and expanding, i could get somewhere. but rn im just lost in this sea >;(

idk why im acting like i havent done anything the past couple weeks tho when i have. i did a deep dive on scihub, libgen, and pirate bay and their associated creators. i learned about open source movements and pirate parties. i read half of the whole pirate care curriculum. i had a meeting with hyun for the exidermis concept (and had the print slogans basically ready, gonna supplement with tiqqun and wark tho) and explained basically what im writing, to her, and to my mom yesterday. i thought of a seminar idea based off of CALLING ALL TUMBLRINAS in which i basically hold talks on Cyberfeminism Today in Relation to Tumblr Activism. its just that i am the kind of person who doesnt wanna miss anything and wants to read ALL the major literature so i really know what the F my work is drawing from. if i had more time i would also look into research of self directed pedagogy but i will just have to rely on my own experience for that .

movie-verse au where newtmas pine for each other through the scorch, through the 6 months between tst and tdc. there are moments that could’ve been something, but they never talk about it.

and when newt (almost) dies in the last city, thomas realizes how little time they always had. wishing that they could’ve done something earlier.

okay so my lovely friend jack, @pamesjatterson and i already talked abt this but i feel the need to make a list of hcs now because that’s what i do (this is an alive!au bc i said so)

-they go to a drive-in

- it’s the summertime and julie and the phantoms had a gig earlier that day so needless to say alex and reggie are wiped

- they fall asleep as soon as the movie starts

- the feature film maze runner because i have recently re-fallen down that particular hellhole (spoilers for the tmr trilogy below)

- willie and nick give full commentary the entire time, such as “there’s no way that british dude is straight” and “teresa is so useless, when does she die”

- reggie wakes up during ben’s banishment and immediately buries his face into nick’s neck because Scary

- willie drinks like five cokes in a row and has to use the bathroom

- alex sleeps all until chuck’s d*ath, and the whole time willie is just. smiling at him. and kissing his fingers. and being in love.

- nick scoffs at him but then he turns around and plays with reggie’s hair so,,,,,

- they all cry when chuck dies (reggie cries the hardest)

- he cries for like ten minutes until nick gives him a box of sour patch kids (reggie would love em fight me)

- the movie theater just happens to be showing the whole series that night and willie’s already hyped up on caffiene, alex and reggie are wide awake, and nick’s somehow already become number one newtmas stan so they stay for the scorch trials

- they all hate janson/rat man immediately

- willie’s just “wow he reminds me of a certain uncle of mine” his uncle is caleb

- do you,,,,know that one scene,,,,,,,,,where thomas knows wckd found them and he’s losing his shit and newt gets real close in his face and says “what did you see” in a voice yea

- nick freaks out

- alex says “chill man it’s just a movie” but he’s also like  👀  👀  👀 

- when winston dies reggie cries

- alex gets terrified every jump scare and hides behind willie every time a crank shows up on screen

- willie has alreay consumed ten coca-colas at this point

- they all hate teresa and it gets worse when minho is captured

- the four agree to stay for the showing of the death cure

- the innocent children they are, they think the movie will end in happiness and peace and love and a dead teresa (i mean it does but-)

- when minho’s not on the train willie is genuinely so shocked

- nick rambles about the happy newtmas they will surely be getting at the end of the film, my sweet summer child

- reggie’s favorite character is frypan and he won’t shut up about it

- reggie: “i just think that fry cooked for them all and now he’s agreeing to go on a suicide mission, he deserves more appreciation”

his boyfriend, just trying to watch a movie: “that’s sweet darlin’ but they’re getting attacked by zombies”

- teresa shows up on screen and willie throws an empty coke can at her

- except nick is in the way so it kinda just,,, ricochets off of him

- he says “ouch dude what the heck” and willie looks away and doesn’t say anything

- gally shows up again and they all collectively lose their minds, which earns them many a glare from the elderly couple in the car over

- it happens again when newt dies except with a lot more tears and insisting “but they were in love”s from nick

-  they’re all extremely uncomfortable when thomas and brenda flirt

- surprisingly, willie is the only one who cries during the reading of The Letter

- they leave the drive-in tired but content

also reggie is totally wearing nick’s hoodie the whole time

I answered this one a few days ago, so I'll just copy and paste my answer:

Her unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She sees it as a positive trait and a necessary one for her profession, but it’s also very much a flaw she struggles with. She has to open the Book of the Dead because to her, not knowing what’s in it is worse than any possible consequences. Same with the Chest of Anubis.

Also, her perfectionism and workaholic tendencies. She also sees those traits as essential to her success as an Egyptologist (especially as a woman working in a male-dominated field), but she tends to become so wrapped up in her work that she forgets to take time to relax. Rick helps her overcome these tendencies somewhat, but they’ll never go away completely.

[ ⚰️ ] what are your muse’s greatest regrets? what would flash before their eyes when they’re on their deathbed?

For the first few months after Hamunaptra, she regrets reading from the Book of the Dead because of the deaths her actions indirectly caused, but I don't think it's something that would flash before her eyes on her deathbed (or when she temporarily died in TMR). She knows the deaths of the Americans and the asshole British Egyptologist were the result of their own actions as much as hers, and that fighting Imhotep brought her and Rick closer together. I think when she died in TMR, she regretted taking the Bracelet of Anubis and blamed herself for Alex putting it on and getting kidnapped, but again, I don't think it would still haunt her when she died for good (hopefully many years down the road).

Aside from those, I honestly don't think she has any big regrets. She has everything she's ever dreamed of--a career she's passionate about that allows her to have lots of adventures, a gorgeous husband who loves and supports her unconditionally and vice versa, and a brilliant, charming child who shares her passion for Egyptology. [ 🧸 ] does your muse keep anything sentimental? if so, what do they keep and why?

I'm cheating here because it's canon rather than headcanon, but the locket containing her parents' pictures is definitely the most sentimental thing she owns. She keeps it because it helps her feel close to them and reminds her of where she came from and why she became an Egyptologist.

I know, I know, sorry!!!! this has been a long time coming, so long that I received a second ask about this, but I’m shit with deadlines. but that can’t stop me, since I'm always ready to talk about Jonathan. (typing it all up, not so much, hence the delay... sorry)

if I'm being honest, in the 20 years since the first movie was released, I have never once thought about Jonathan as bi, up until that ask I answered earlier. I always thought of him more as aroace than anything else. but despite that, he's most definitely a textbook example of disaster bi, so let's get into this.we only ever see him in any kind of romantic situation in the beginning of TMR, when the O'Connells get home and find Jonathan there with a woman. I understand that the mummies kinda take priority over... pretty much everything, but considering Jonathan's personality and all his bragging, I can't imagine him not talking about all of his... experience.although we never see him do anything with her besides talking, the intentions are implied. or, well, they should be, I guess. while the scene is meant to show Jonathan flirting with the nameless woman before they get it on, honestly, all I see is him desperately trying to get some attention and validation. Rick and Evie are off to disrupt ancient spirits and accidentally raise the dead, and Jonathan is left there alone, so he had to find someone, anyone to listen to him, so I don't really view that as a hookup. maybe an emotional one, but definitely not sexual.aaaaaanyway. according to Urban Dictionary, a disaster bi is "any hot mess of a person who tangentially also happens to be bisexual", and if there ever was a Hot Mess™ of a person, it is most definitely Jonathan Carnahan, and I firmly believe in “bi until proven straight”, so this works.he is definitely a disaster bi, although a surprisingly high-functioning one, shown by the following things, in no particular order:

his best friend is an 8yo kid, who also happens to be his nephew

he breaks the key in the lock when trying to start a car, so obviously, he steals a double decker bus to be their getaway vehicle

then manages to blame said 8yo for stealing the bus

he knows his way well around the museum Evie worked at and ancient Egyptian sarcophagi to be able to sneak into the building and hide in one of them just to scare his sister

he literally climbed into a sarcophagus, that still had a mummy in it, just to prank his sister

he speaks ancient Egyptian (he could read from the Book of the Dead in TM), but... he sometimes forgets he does??? (it was Alex who read the writing on the wall when they were trying to resurrect Evie)

pretty much nothing could have happened in the movies, if Jonathan hadn't kept stealing stuff from people all the time. he stole the key and map from Rick, which started them on their journey. he stole Osiris' staff from whoever, which proved to be the key to killing the Scorpion King. he stole the key several times. etc.

he probably had the same education as Evie, considering they are siblings, and Evie believed him when he said he got the box at a dig in Thebes, and he knows a lot about ancient Egyptian stuff too, but he only bothers to use any of that knowledge when it comes to things worth a lot of money

he was probably a magpie in a previous life, considering his obsession with everything shiny

he can actually shoot very well, even from a distance, but we only find out at the end of the second movie because for him, that somehow wasn't a relevant piece of information he felt the need to share??

he constantly answers questions very clearly not directed at him

endless sarcasm and one-liners
