florean:

his father (a muggle) lived most of his life in italy, working class background, immigrated to england in the 50s and opened a shop (maybe gelato im not sure). met his wife (a witch) in london, they got together and had their first child, alice. the whole magic thing was quite a lot to handle at first (when alice started showing signs of it, and the mother had to explain everything) but the father loved his wife and wanted to have a family so he accepted it eventually. ~a year later they had florean.

he always wanted to open an gelateria because he liked making people happy, especially children. it was his dream to own a shop in diagon alley

i imagine his personality as sort of a mixture between james, remus, and frank tbh (although i would really like to establish him as an independent character instead of just comparing him to others)

he loves his sister alice very much, she looks out for him, and although she might tease him a bit she also loves him <3

he loves life at hogwarts, and he loves routines !!! he hates unpredictability in his life, prefers to have a familiar schedule that he can stick to. he finds change extremely stressful and can sometimes appear to have mood swings because of this

august:

august grew up on a farm in the lake district (northern england). both his parents were magical, although neither were pure bloods. his bloodline has witches and wizards in it, going back many generations, but also muggles as well. he doesn't have any siblings.

after his mother died, when he was ~8, they moved off the farm (which they gave to his aunt and uncle) to london. ollivander started up his wandmaking business, and they lived together in a flat above the shop in diagon alley. he looks back very fondly on the time he spent in the country growing up, he loves to be in nature, and is comfortable in solitude. he's very much a wild spirit (sort of reminding me of anne of green gables)

every summer holidays he spends time on the farm with his aunt and uncle.

i imagine his personality as sort of a mixture between lily, regulus, and ANNE OF GREEN GABLES (although - again - i would really like to establish him as an independent character instead of just comparing him to others)

he does love his father, although he can get on his nerves a little because it's just the two of them living together, and he's very sporadic and sometimes reclusive.

he loves living at hogwarts, and spends a lot of his free time outside, walking on the grounds or even venturing to the edges of the forbidden forest. the scottish countryside sort of reminds him of the moors where he grew up.

Kinglsey patronus is canonically a Lynx! Loving to hear about your headcanons. How about Hagird and Remus?

oh i didn't remember that but it's interesting because i chose lynx to be alice's patronus! i think i'll stick to it since i'm also inspired by his fight style to write hers. in my timeline she'd an active auror by the time he starts his training and i can see her having a lot of belief in him

hagrid most likely can't cast a patronus with his broken wand but if he could it would be fang. remus' is a wolf (not a werewolf, just a wolf)

they also have canonical wands: for hagrid is english oak with an unknown core (i'd choose unicorn hair)(there's actually an interesting commentary on why jkr chose this and it's because oak is considered the king of the forest and it would suit hagrid). remus' wand is cypress with unicorn hair and it indicates someone who will probably die a heroic death. do we think ollivander told this to eleven years old remus or he had a rare moment of sensibility?

hagrid adores remus, of course. they have complicated relationships with being only partially human and are interested in other magical creatures. i think they'd have engaging conversations (sirius often joins) and that remus is more attuned to his woes in a similar way to hermione in making en effort to keep him company and offer practical ways of solving his problems

First Friend

A/N: Here's my entry for yesterday's prompt "School Supplies" of @usernoneexistent "Back 2 School Chaos Challenge". Enjoy!

Diagon Alley was a hub of activity, swarming with families eagerly preparing for the upcoming school year. Both children and teenagers were brimming with excitement, each for their own reasons. As the young ones ran around, squealing with delight, the older ones huddled together in secret, discussing their next great pranks or sharing stories of the love letters they had written over the summer. Meanwhile, parents could be heard discussing and comparing the prices of various items on the required shopping list. This was an especially magical time for Muggle-born students and their families as they marvelled at the wondrous sights and sounds around them. It was clear to anyone there that this was the busiest time of year for Diagon Alley.

Alice was standing next to her parents, taking in the scene before her. The noise and activity of Diagon Alley were a stark contrast to the serene sound of waves crashing on the beach near her grandmother's house. As she walked through the streets, she couldn't help but overhear some whispers about her being her brother's sibling. This made her feel a bit self-conscious, but inside the stores, everyone was too busy looking for what they needed to pay much attention to her.

At Madam Malkin's, Alice was fitted for her uniform while a nearby boy was busy convincing his mother that he needed new clothes to look his best at school. At Flourish and Blotts, the store was so crowded that Alice managed to remain unnoticed, only bumping into a blond girl who was trying to carry what seemed like all the potion books in the store.

Finally, the time had come for Alice to get her wand at Ollivanders. The shop was tiny and empty, except for a single spindly chair in the corner. Thousands of narrow boxes containing wands were piled up to the ceiling of the cramped shop, which had a thin layer of dust throughout.

Alice's brother, Jacob, had cautioned her that the wandmaker was a bit peculiar, but Alice had not anticipated the unsettling way in which he peered at her with his wide, pale eyes when he suddenly emerged from the back of the shop. The wandmaker's gaze bore into Alice as if he could discern her innermost thoughts.

"Ah! The sister of Jacob Beaumont, I presume?" he said, looking straight at Alice, who winced at the mention of her brother. "Your brother was such a clever young man. It's a shame what happened to him, though I suppose one can't believe all the rumours they hear."

Alice's mother cleared her throat, interrupting the old wandmaker's train of thought. "Ah, yes. You're here for your own wand before leaving for Hogwarts. Remember, the wand chooses the wizard. Now, let's test out a few wands. But first, which is your wand arm?"

Alice lifted her right arm. Mr. Ollivander proceeded to measure her from shoulder to finger, followed by wrist to elbow, shoulder to floor, knee to armpit and finally around her head, all with a magical measuring tape that moved on its own.

Ollivander then proceeded to present several wands for Alice to test, each with their unique qualities and characteristics.

“Here, try this one. Maple and dragon heartstring. Ten inches. Slightly springy and flexible. Just give it a wave.”

Alice took the wand and waved it around, causing an explosion in one of the shelves.

Mr. Ollivander took it out of her hand before handing her another wand. “Blackthorn and Unicorn hair. 11 and a quarter inches. Nice and flexible.”

Once again, Alice gave it a wave, and her mother’s purse caught on fire, making Alice giggle. Ollivander took that wand away as her mother used her own wand to extinguish the fire.

More wands were handed to Alice, and as she waved each one, she felt a faint energy that seemed to resonate with her. However, nothing seemed to satisfy the expert eye of Garrick Ollivander. Finally, the wandmaker handed Alice a wand and said, "Willow and unicorn hair. Twelve inches. Pliable."

As Alice took the wand, she felt an immediate connection with it. A warm feeling filled her body, and it was as if the wand was an extension of herself. She waved it, and a single rose appeared from the tip.

“I do believe you have found your wand. Or more like the wand has found you.”

Mr. Ollivander placed the wand back in its box and handed it to Alice’s mother.

As she followed her mother outside the store, she overheard the wandmaker say, “I do wonder what happened to your brother Jacob…” She turned around, but he was already gone.

“Now, wait for me here,” said Alice’s mother, Moira. “I have to go to Eeylops to get some food for Arthur.”

Alice let out a small sigh of relief, grateful that she wouldn't have to make a trip to the owl emporium this time around. She had a deep-seated fear of getting pooped on by the birds, which seemed to happen all too often. As she waited outside of Ollivanders' shop for her mother, she felt someone bump into her from behind. Turning around, she was met with the sight of a girl with jet-black hair, brown skin, and a pair of thick black-rimmed glasses perched on her nose.

“Oh! So sorry! So many people here!” said the girl, her voice barely audible over the commotion.

“It’s alright, no harm done,” said Alice, a genuine smile on her face.

“Are you a first-year?” asked the girl, her eyes bright with curiosity.

“Hum, yes, I am,” replied Alice.

“Me too! I’m Rowan, by the way. Rowan Khanna.” said Rowan, extending her hand for Alice to shake.

“Alice Beaumont,” replied Alice, taking Rowan’s hand.

“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Alice! Feels good to know a fellow first year before even being aboard the Hogwarts Express. I’ve always had a hard time making friends as people think I’m weird.”

A small bittersweet smile formed on Alice’s lips as she thought about her own insecurities. “I’m pretty sure everyone at school will think I’m weird as well.”

“Really? Why? You look pretty normal to me,” said Rowan.

Alice took a deep breath. “My brother is Jacob Beaumont.”

“Jacob Beaumont? The Jacob Beaumont who was expelled for breaking school rules while looking for the fabled Cursed Vaults?”

Alice nodded, feeling a knot form in her stomach.

“That was a massive story in the Prophet back when it happened!”

“And I’m pretty sure everyone at school will know about it…” Alice sighed, feeling a sense of dread wash over her.

“Maybe not. I hadn’t made the connection,” said Rowan.

“Just one student needs to make the connection for everyone to know.”

“Then we’ll be weird together!” exclaimed Rowan.

“You’re… not going to run away from me?” asked Alice, feeling a glimmer of hope.

“Why? You’re not your brother, and the Daily Prophet always exaggerates. Oh! I see my family! See you at the station!” said Rowan before running away.

As Rowan was disappearing into the crowd, Alice saw her mother emerging from it, her eyes scanning the area for her daughter.

“Who was that you were talking to?” asked her mother, a hint of concern in her voice.

Alice looked back toward the crowd, a smile forming on her lips. “A new friend.”

EVENT — GRINGOTTS BREAK IN & HORCRUX STOLEN

MAY 26, 1982 – The Order of the Phoenix carries out an operation to recover the stolen cup of Helga Hufflepuff, one of Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

BACKSTORY: Sometime in April of 1982, REGULUS BLACK heard from his cousin BELLATRIX LESTRANGE that the Dark Lord had tasked her and RODOLPHUS LESTRANGE with safekeeping HELGA HUFFLEPUFF’S CUP in their Gringotts vault. Regulus, remembering his conversation with CAITRIONA BURKE earlier in the year where she confirmed that Hufflepuff’s Cup went missing during TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE’S employment at Borgin and Burke’s, came to the realization that there was a Horcrux in the Lestrange vault. Regulus supplied this information to ALBUS DUMBLEDORE and the heist operation was soon hatched.

The plan is to infiltrate Gringotts and steal Hufflepuff’s Cup from the Lestrange’s vault without raising suspicion to the Goblins or Death Eaters until the Cup is in the Order’s hands. SIRIUS BLACK and ALICE LESTRANGE would pass as their relatives using Polyjuice Potion with the hair ingredients of Bellatrix and Rodolphus provided by REGULUS BLACK.

SIRIUS BLACK and ALICE LESTRANGE will be followed by EMMELINE VANCE using JAMES POTTER’S Invisibility Cloak to get through the gates and accompany them to the vault, and jump to action if necessary to make sure the heist is completed without raising suspicion. PRIYA RAJANI PATIL and REMUS LUPIN will be posted in the lobby of Gringotts as lookouts.

However, unbeknownst to the Order, Lord Voldemort has Gringotts under vigilance by his followers. On the day of the heist, SEVERUS SNAPE and JASON MULCIBER are on watch within the lobby and outside of the bank. Their suspicions are raised when ‘Bellatrix’ and ‘Rodolphus’ come to visit their vault, as they had not been informed they would. After alerting their master of their suspicions, LORD VOLDEMORT immediately calls upon the Death Eaters, including PETER PETTIGREW and REGULUS BLACK, to descend upon Gringotts and prevent the Order from leaving with Hufflepuff’s Cup by any means possible, including taking civilians hostage. A battle breaks out within Gringotts between the Order and the Death Eaters, with the hostages caught in the crossfire. TED TONKS, ANDROMEDA TONKS, RITA SKEETER, PANDORA LOVEGOOD, XENOPHILIUS LOVEGOOD, and TIBERIUS OGDEN become the civilians inside of Gringotts that are held hostage.

Soon, Aurors arrive upon the scene, including FRANK LONGBOTTOM and AMELIA BONES, with orders to rescue the hostages and arrest any thieves, Order members, and Death Eaters they could. Death Eaters and Order members eventually flee the bank and the hostages are recovered by the Aurors. Though not without difficulty, SIRIUS BLACK, ALICE LESTRANGE, and EMMELINE VANCE successfully steal the Horcrux from the Lestrange vault. The Horcrux is passed to MARY MACDONALD and KIERAN OLLIVANDER, who are instructed to fly away from the scene on broom to deliver it to ALBUS DUMBLEDORE at an undisclosed location.

CHARACTER PLOTS

REGULUS BLACK obtained hairs belonging to Bellatrix and Rodolphus to supply the Polyjuice Potion. He is called to action by Voldemort to Gringotts.

LILY POTTER brews the Polyjuice Potion prior to the operation.

SIRIUS BLACK and ALICE LESTRANGE are tasked with drinking the Polyjuice and disguising themselves, with Sirius posing as Bellatrix and Alice posing as Rodolphus.

BENJY FENWICK previously supplied knowledge about the inner workings and thief traps of Gringotts from his experience as a Curse Breaker.

EMMELINE VANCE accompanies Sirius Black and Alice Lestrange during the mission underneath JAMES POTTER’S invisibility cloak. She is to carry the dupe Cup, Confund (or even Imperio) the Goblins to ensure the robbery is carried out, and carry the Horcrux out of the bank.

REMUS LUPIN and PRIYA RAJANI PATIL are posted in the lobby of Gringotts bank to keep watch and alert the Order if anything went wrong.

MARY MACDONALD and KIERAN OLLIVANDER are posted outside of Gringotts bank. They are tasked with retrieving Hufflepuff’s Cup from Emmeline and delivering it to Albus Dumbledore.

SEVERUS SNAPE and JASON MULCIBER are keeping watch at Gringotts. They are also called to action by Voldemort to fight the Order, retrieve Hufflepuff’s Cup, and take any hostages as necessary.

PETER PETTIGREW is called to action by Voldemort to fight the Order, retrieve Hufflepuff’s Cup, and take any hostages as necessary.

TED TONKS, ANDROMEDA TONKS, RITA SKEETER, PANDORA LOVEGOOD, XENOPHILIUS LOVEGOOD, and TIBERIUS OGDEN are the civilians inside of Gringotts that are held hostage.

Beginning on Friday, May 26, 2023, players are welcome to write out the Gringotts break-in, the lead up to the operation, the ensuing battle, or the aftermath. The purpose of this event is to advance the war and the ongoing hunt for Horcruxes. Despite the detailed plot structure above, players have the freedom to write the event as they believe their characters would behave through it and we encourage any ideas you may have. Characters that are not actively present at the time of the break-in are also welcome to react to the news of it or a loved one's involvement. Players are welcome to create starters related to the event through June 30th, 2023.

Prompts to consider: What side of the war does your character find themselves on? How does your character prepare for the lead up to the operation? How does your character react to being held hostage, seeing hostages, or being told to hold people hostage?  Is your character injured or arrested? How do they handle a loved one being injured, arrested, or held hostage? What suspicions will be raised about Hufflepuff’s Cup being stolen?

headcanon : longbottom estate & family history.

the longbottoms have an ancestral house that has been passed down for generations called ' the oak's point '

history,

to give a very brief overview, the longbottoms had a massive start as one of the few families to mass-produce and introduce wand productions across britain and scotland as far back as the 14th century

this was a possibility in part due to one of the longbottoms having been gifted a massive land by the royalty at the time as well as a title that had allowed him to cultivate the land — which was rich of the magical substances that made the wands

of course, knowing they would never surpass ollivander's influence in wandmaking, the longbottoms remained one of their main suppliers; a business partnership they carry well into the twentieth century

the longbottoms have also been involved in other industries such as providing materials and clothes for the mass production of robes, and aiding the royal family in supplying magical wood for the heightened interest in magical sailing back in the 15th century

in the 16th century, the longbottoms were already quite well-known as a family with inherited generational wealth, with the heir at the time amounting to ( in today's calculation ) half a million net worth.

today, augusta longbottom sits as the head to the longbottom fortune, with neville as her sole heir. she is worth around 7.4 million pound, while neville's net worth is expected to rise to 10.3 million pound by the time he leads the longbottom house as head.

oak's point,

oak's point belonged to neville's ancestor who built the estate around the 15th century.

the estate encompassed around 12 acres of land, with the whole house being able to provide up to two hundreds occupant at the same time, if need be.

at present, it is with residents : housing augusta, enid, algie, and neville.

neville grew up in oak's point at the main residence ( called 'chestnut mansion' ) where he is watched closely by his grandmother, a governess, and a specially appointed house-elf, orla.

up until he's eleven, the year he goes to hogwarts, neville is homeschooled and is thus, quite sheltered.

neville was supposed to live at another part of oak's point, called the 'bur's cottage', because it was specially dedicated and gifted to frank and alice and it was where they plan to raise their family. as an adult, augusta gifted the cottage for neville to use, which he does — though sparingly, when he ended up mainly living at hogwarts.

the whole of oak's point now housed three main house-elves: totts, margie, and orla. they are being treated quite fondly and fairly by all members of the longbottom ( that is, if uncle algie isn't being annoying ) , though given the traditional view still practised by augusta, they aren't considered as free creatures at all.
