Joel thought he would never hear her laugh like this again, light and melodic and laced with a childlike innocence he knows she lost long ago, but it's spring and the snow has melted and she is giggling.

She is playing with a puppy, watching it overestimate its own speed and tumble to the ground, holding it with the same gentleness he feels in his own hands when he touches her, basking in the pure expression of joy only animals are capable of. They're free of untainted memories, the air smells like roses and lilac, his fingertips have been numbed by his guitar strings, and Ellie turns to look at him with a smile, a memory that has carried him through winter.

The sun has yet to grow hot but it is already turning her hair into shimmering copper, her ends barely reaching past her shoulders, and when she remains unbothered by the breeze blowing through it, strands tickling the back of her neck, he knows he will get to watch it grow again, watch her grow.

After not being a father for twenty years, the thought of experiencing another childhood, no matter how broken, no matter how short, fills him with equal parts of fear and devotion. Her spark is still there, the twinkle in her eye when she asks can we keep her, the brightness illuminating her face when he says yes and doesn't bother to hide his smile. There are crocuses in the grass, bright specks of color among the morning dew, and Ellie's skin when she presses her cheek into his palm is softer than their petals.

Joel remembers the giraffe, the dog and her in the snow after his world had stopped, her laughter anchoring him back down, her tiny hands that should have never had to aim a gun softly holding their horses face so she can press a kiss to his nose.

All he can do is stretch out his arms and offer her a space to grow, the promise of an embrace whenever she needs it, a constant I love you he cannot quite say, not yet, but only the innocence preserved in the trusting eyes of an animal, the carefree joy of a toddler in her arms, can help her find her childhood again.

There is too much violence in the world, too many memories haunting them to ever escape the pain, but Ellie presses herself against his side, warm, alive, happy, and she is laughing again.

It's enough.

I think Blaine (ZG insert) is a silly little side-ish character who joins the main cast when one of their parents possibly tries to help the a.e.u.g but Blaine is well known for being a prodigy child / celebrity for being a pilot in their own right and they're told not to do anything stupid so they disguise themself and pilot one of the mobile armor in a battle several times before getting caught and they're told "i mean we need extra people" but because they are so up their own ass about being good they rub most of the crew the wrong way until they're fighting because they desperately need the people. but Blaine also has a fun little backstory and even though they present as prim and proper and dress nice all the time the longer they are working with the a.e.u.g the more disheveled and down and dirty they become like they were when they were younger

I think people arent understanding min’s chapter, like at all. While also widely relatable, this game is specifically about the 2nd gen asian american experience. Min’s chapter isn’t simply about the ability of racial minorities to be racist to other minorities. It’s about how the experience of being an asian american born to an immigrant leads to a specific pain, which often manifests in the kind of racism/ignorance we see in min. “I suffered in silence so they should too.”

It’s the myth of the model minority in action, one that she is shown internalizing from her dad: the model minority myth offers to asian immigrants the idea that if they don’t make trouble and aim for success within the parameters of (white-dominated, patriarchal, culturally Christian) American capitalism, they’ll be rewarded by the system - and part of that means rejecting solidarity with other minority groups, which results in the kind of antiBlackness and other forms of divisive racism found in asian communities. This issue is culturally specific to asian american immigrants - this particular attitude of “putting your head down and suffering in silence” is many older asian immigrants’ response to the adversity & racism that they faced in America. Min’s dad embodies this very clearly - he states explicitly in the game that when people discriminated against him for his accent and culture, he simply worked harder instead of causing a problem, and he tries to force Min to adopt the same mentality. 

Min’s chapter is both a wider commentary on the asian community and character growth. BS outlines incredibly clearly that Min’s own aggression was in survival to her immigrant dad’s own aggression, which was in response to a hostile racist world he had to learn to survive in. Her aggression is often shown in a generally positive (or humorous) light, protecting herself and her friends, but in this ch, it’s shown how misdirected it can become. And when she decides to break that cycle by the end of the end of the ch, it’s a great show of growth for her.

As an asian american to an immigrant dad and being within these communities, min’s ch resonated deeply. Older asian people can be incredibly racist and conservative, but it’s not in the same way a white person can be racist and conservative. It’s its own brand, which developed in response to the particular forms of anti-asian racism they’ve faced, and I really applaud brianna’s willingness to tackle such an uncomfortable and often ignored subject within her game, especially with a main lead character. 

I’m frustrated because i have yet to see anyone provide any specific criticism of how brianna handled the ch that isnt some flavor of “it made me uncomfortable because I like min,” and how unnecessary they felt it was. I think it’s complicated because a lot of online activism stresses the importance of centering the feelings of the victim, and min’s chapter is centered on her feelings, not ester’s. But it’s from a certain pain min experienced herself as a victim of racism that leads to her hyper-aggression in response to being called out. I think its an experience worth talking about, and it’s absolutely not excused within the text.

to paint this as brianna making her beloved character a racist for no reason is a gross misrepresentation and simplification of what literally happens within the text of the game, and potentially shutting down an important subject just on the basis of it being uncomfortable. it’s irresponsible and unproductive. she doesnt owe you a digestible and agreeable character in her game talking about her own experience as a 2nd gen asian american.

I recently watched an autistic lawyer drama, which inspired this ask!

How would Halima and Mahir react to reader not being rejected out of law cases and even discriminated against by both clients and coworkers due to her disability (any disability will do whether mental or physical). Despite being very capable as a lawyer, people focus on her disability rather than her skills. Maybe she had a case that was instead passed on the either of them as the client demanded to have a “proper” attorney

Well, in this AU, they would both be lawyers. Halim works at his father's firm, and Mahir has started his own firm, both of which arebvery successful. You would probably be a friend of theirs from law school and they've both been very fond of you ever since, and now you were hired by Mahir's firm (even though Halim fought hard to get you in his firm with all the added benefits and bonuses, it was you who decided to work for Mahir because you felt he would be good at giving you constructive criticism. Halim is a softie).

So you have a stutter, but you have never let it be a problem. No, no, you were confident and hardworking and smart. Even in law school, you were good at defending your mock cases and thesis.

And your clients were always satisfied with your work as well, even if you were always supervised by Mahir for the first few cases. And since he was happy with your work, he decided to let you handle the next case on your own.

And boy oh boy did he know he made the right choice with you when you brought in a very big, very rich client. He gave you a nod of approval when you were leading the client to a meeting room.

Halim had decided to drop in by Mahir's firm to hang out with him (and you of course, although he'd much rather take you out with him. But you're far too concerned with work ethics), when he saw you leaving the meeting room with tears in your eyes. He followed you to your office, eyes widening at you sobbing quietly, looking startled when he called out your name.

"Y/n?" Halim walked closer, pulling your hands away from your face that were trying to wipe away the tears. "What happened?"

And that was enough for you to start crying again.

You told him everything, about the new client you had found, and how he berated you for having a stutter, said that he doesn't need a useless stuttering clown to fuck up his case and make him lose millions, and to go fetch him a more competent lawyer and threw a wad of cash at your face to "go fix your stutter and your face".

Halim's mouth had never dropped so fast and while he was busy consoling you (and plotting this guy's murder), unbeknownst to the two of them, Mahir had listened to all of this(because he ahd his assistant inform him whenever Halim entered the building so that he could keep his friend away from you) and was now inside the meeting room, ripping this client a new one using all the dirt he had gotten on him before Mahir had allowed you to get a new client (you didn't think hed let you have ANY client did you? The world is full of nasty criminals and he doesnt want one within 100 metres of you.) Within 5 minutes, the client had left Mahir's firm with his tail tucked between his legs.

When Halim was done consoling you, Mahir had entered your office and apologised on behalf of the rude client and had told you that you will not be dealing with him anymore.

"But- but he's worth a lot to the firm!" You argued, standing up to run after the client and beg him to stay. You didn't want Mahir to lose a client because of you.

But Mahir grabbed your shoulders before you could run, wiping away the tears on your cheeks.

"Not more than you."

Meanwhile, Halim had excused himself to the restroom to make some calls that ended up in making sure that no firm in the entire country takes this jerk's case, and if someone does, then Halim uses his daddy's money to buy off the judges and police to get fake evidence and make this guy lose his case and money. Oh and Halim and Mahir will team up to fight the case against this guy and there's no way that anyone can win a case against them when they work together.

Kim roksoo and reincarnation cycled og!cale(before lcf-after tboah and malfunctioned deal).

Og!cale whose soul doesnt actually attached to any body unless it is the body confirmed in the deal. Which means he wont ever stay dead unless he died in kim roksoo's body. So it is a cycle of reincarnation or transmigration.

Og!cale who first reincarnate as a son of krs's neighbour. Their family being close friends and cale-roksoo being childhood friends. Cale with the older mentality completely taken by roksoo's cuteness and swears to take care of him. Cale who witness every misfortune; a friend's betrayal, a bullying, teacher's blatant discrimination. Every death; roksoo's beloved pets dying again and again, the fat gold fish, the melodious yellow bird, the cuddly black cat. And his every crying moments; the pain of being pushed, feeling the quiet rage of krs's parents towards the teacher and parents, in the hugs of krs's parents after every death. Cale is not ignorant, he have seen things, he knew that what happen to roksoo is not normal. So he vows, with that burning fire of passion to always stay with roksoo and came back no matter what.

...his first obstacle came with his death. And in the worst way possible too; he and his parents died alongside krs's parents in the (canon) car accident.

Cale's 2nd life is when he transmigrates in krs's uncle's body before going to the funeral. He saw how toxic their relatives were and was reminded of jour's funeral. He took roksoo in and determined to give him the best childhood he can give. A bit of dangers here and there but not what his veteran skill couldnt handle, making sure roksoo's mind is clear of bad things or curses, collecting money before the inevitable happen(no matter how offended he is about failing, he HAVE to be prepared, the curse only need to succeed once after all). Telling roksoo once about his vow during his previous life(he thought roksoo forgot, because it is said in nonchalance, because roksoo is young. Roksoo didnt). He died during the canon time of krs going to orphanage, due to some crazy psycho holding a knife while trying to protect roksoo(to be fair there's a lot of things going on at the time, a fire, evacuation rush, being in the wrong place at the wrong time), deadpanned yay more trauma... FUCK the gods! Thankfully he manage to secure his will and arrange everything to be given to roksoo when he is 18.

His 3rd is reincarnation as a red pomeranian puppy and proceedes to seduce the orphange's director after finding where roksoo is. He became a gurdian dog of roksoo and thwarted off every bullies. He barked and bitten the hell out of the irrensponsible caretakers and always made sure that roksoo is well fed, eventhough it means he had to steal from the kitchen or gave puppy dog eyes to the director. He died due to sickness(thankfully no traumatizing scene) a year before roksoo left the orphanage. Hey, he did well overcoming everything thrown by the curse with his small body at least(he ignore every close calls but not roksoo's trembling hands begging him to not leave). Too bad he wont get roksoo's indulgent pets and cuddles anymore, he understood why blackie(roksoo's late pet cat) loves to cuddle so much.

His 4th was in the body of an orphaned female student living with her grandma...and have a gender identity crisis. Choosing to fuck eveything, sHe searched for roksoo and may or may not become somewhat of a stalker for a lil bit of time(cale is unlucky this time, they're not in the same school and their home were far, lots of complications). Got caught by roksoo who held a pepper spray(which is quite amusing and cute). Not a good experience though. It was a bit rocky but they manage to get closer just a lil lil bit(sHe didnt realize that roksoo at this point is already suspecting something). There's less dangers from the curse though so it was fine(cale knew it was because roksoo closed off his love and affections. It was easier, safer, but he hated it). sHe died protecting krs from the hunter who aimed for both of their souls, but at least sHe got some updates from GoD through the person who saved krs. (Cale died requesting the person to erase krs's memories about her, to protect krs from remembering another traumatising scene, erase another reason for krs to close himself off even more). Krs forgets but the hole in his heart stayed.

Theres this girl at work who doesnt have an inside voice. Every morning at 7 am for the whole day shes screaming and being loud and no one in the office wants to talk to her because shes so fucking loud all the time. Multiple people have asked her to stop and/or to send IM messages instead of yelling but everytime she just says “im puerto rican its my culture to be loud stop discriminating or ill sue”

Any advice on how to deal with this? We cant all put in headphones because we have to be able to hear the phone but its not like anyone here can hear anything with her screaming all day

I get mad thinking about Vivziepop’s questionable writing or dialogue choices sometimes—and then I just feel sad after because I really wish I could see her shows as something naunced and worthy of thoughtful discussion. I wish I could love these shows wholeheartedly like I use to, and its only the attachment I still hold for her works that keep me sticking around, but man, I feel so disheartened sometimes that I wish I could just let it go and move on already, but its hard.

I don’t see either of her shows being things that are going to be remembered as super amazing or have a fandom passionate about the work like 10 years down the line. I can’t look at her characters and think about their possible motivations or analyze them deeply based on interaction, or just general presence in the story, because there is no depth greater than a pond. With her antagonists she writes them in such a particular way that they serve less as actual characters and more as glorified plot devices and nothing more, and with her protagonists she leaves them as overdeveloped or underdeveloped at the same time.

What am I suppose to take when watching her shows? With Helluva Boss, I can’t tell what I’m suppose to gleam from it. Is the story about relationships and focuses on character interaction and characters more than the plot itself? Its not doing that great of a job at that. Theres no changes in character dynamics, characters dont really interact with one another meaningfully most of the time, and relationships arent explored enough outside of already established ones. Is it about fighting against a system that is rigged against you and standing up against the ones in power? No, it isn’t, because the opression our main characters face isnt relevant enough in the story outside of the ocassional reminder that, yes, Imps are the lowest in the system, yes, imps can be quite literally sold as property and serve as servants and the working force to the ones in power, and, yes, imps face discrimination. (Can you tell the supremacist line pissed me off yet.)

I.M.P—who are all apart of marginalized species in hell—do not talk about these issues they face. Crimson is literally a mafia boss in Greed and he doesn’t seem to have any problems being a imp in power despite the demons working under him being higher in status than he himself is. (Minus the money problems because it doesnt seem actually relevant to anything and isnt brought up afterwards) Why have our main characters be apart of the lower class at all if it isnt actually important to the show. By the end of this show, the hierachy isnt going to change because status quo is god, and the worst case scenario possible is that Blitz gets with Stolas and becomes a prince and lives a life where the same species he’s apart of literally serves under him.

And speaking of status quo, what on earth is season 2 of Hazbin going to even be about if season 1 ends in a literal war between Heaven and Hell? You don’t just change the status quo that drasitically in one season—unless if Hell and Heaven were at war since the start? But it doesnt seem that way. Would Season 2 focus on redemption—but if that’s the case, why make season 1 the war between hell and heaven when season 2 would be more fitted for it instead?

I never thought these shows would be on ‘Breaking Bad’ tier levels of writing, but I thought they were going to at least be something I could walk away from with a clear understanding of what message it wants to tell and how I can interpret it as part of an auidence, but maybe I was wrong to think the stories Medrano writes have something wonderfully insightful to give, and it really hurts to think about.

I know how you feel, Anon. A shame we can't all have just one day to look into the good timeline where Viv's the writer and person we hoped she would be, and these shows are everything we were looking forward to.

elemental has turned around at the box office and gone from flop to doing well. it seems this is pretty much entirely because of word of mouth. maybe theres other factors im not considering, but thats pretty fucking impressive.

and i think it deserves it tbh. it is far from perfect, but it might be my favorite pixar film of the 20s so far. granted, the bar isn't as high as the 10s or 00s, but hey, the decade is young. its pretty good!

i think what i liked about it was mainly that it was really emotionally sincere. like. its not too snide or self-aware, it just deeply cares about its characters and is totally committed to the world.

so many newer pixar flicks have this "popcorn filler" middle where there's zany antics that barely connect to the emotional journey. this movie doesn't. its all about these two main characters bonding in a way i found organic and compelling. and there's very little cringe humor. that one annoying tree guy is basically just in it for two seconds. idk why disney marketing still (wrongly) believes that kind of eyebrow wiggle humor is popular, because that made the movie look WAY worse.

anyway. its definitely good for a movie that was written off en-masse as cringey and generic and a lazy race metaphor. i don't think its any of these things. i think the main creative voice speaking about their own immigrant experiences does the job in a decent way.

also, that one clip of "fire girl being racist" is ignoring the crucial context that SHES the immigrant whos discriminated against, not some white-coded karen who needs to learn to be less racist. shes aware that shes less privileged and doesnt want to rock the boat.

also-also, i'm not even going reason with the badfaith twitter take that "she doesn't wanna date the tree boy because she's RACIST instead of it being because he's a CHILD?? #groomer alert!1!!"

like. come on. she's clearly not interested in him, she doesn't need to Spell Out that its because he's a child. that's not the point of the movie. thats just the most lazy twitter hot take for the sake of morally justifying that you found a thing cringe. don't be that person.

if you don't wanna see it, hey, don't. its fine. i'm not gonna go to bat like its the most important movie ever or anything... but its nice seeing pixar have more well-rounded, developed girl characters, after decades of being the emotionally sincere boys club. about time.

also, the romance is cute. i totally get why the aroace community in particular relate. like. its a romance where they Literally cannot touch each other, so its a relationship that actually develops because of their personalities rather than anything physical. its nice :)

“Thank you for talking with us, Mr Smith.” Derek says as he and Spencer leave the office of the apartment manager.

As soon as Spencer steps back into the hallway his eyes start scanning everything and everyone, until his gaze lands on a woman lying on the floor next to a vending machine. Just lying there. Her eyes are closed, and Spencer’s superhero instincts kick in as he speed walks over to her.

“Oh, one more thing before you go Agent Morgan.” He hears the apartment manager say to his friend, who will clearly be held up for a little longer, not that Spencer’s currently occupied mind is particularly concerned for Derek right now.

Spencer continues to approach the woman, standing at her side and looking down at her.

“Excuse me, are you ok?” He asks quietly, hoping to avoid startling her.

When she nods, Spencer is relieved to have not startled her, and relieved that she hadnt collapsed or suddenly died, but he’s even more confused by her situation.

“Why are you lying on the floor?” He questions, realising that despite being notably awkward, he is not used to being this dumbfounded in social scenarios.

Without opening her eyes, she starts to speak, her voice perfectly clear and even, indicating no stress or worry whatsoever.

“Im passively protesting.” She tells him, as though that makes things any clearer.

Spencer’s mind blanks. “Protesting against what?”

Still keeping her eyes closed, she lifts one of her arms and points to the right. “The vending machine.”

Spencer frowns. “Why?”

She sighs. “I have seen countless people use this vending machine and it works fine, but whenever I use it, every single time without fail, it refuses to co-operate. It’s blatant discrimination, and so, the only logical solution at this point is a protest. But a passive one.”

Finally, Spencer starts to understand, and he cant help the amused smile that forms on his face. “Ahh, I understand. A completely logical solution, I agree. But…I cant help wondering what page of the Passive Protest Handbook you found the rule ‘must keep eyes shut’?”

At this, she opens her eyes. “You make a very valid point.”

When she looks up at him, Spencer’s heart skips a beat involuntarily. Well, if he was to choose someone to skip a heartbeat for, he isnt mad about it being you.

“And frankly, you lying down in this hallway is a hazard, not only to you but other residents, so one could argue this protest isnt truly passive.”

Her eyes widen in shock, both of them effortlessly playing into this ridiculous and over dramatic moment.

“Oh my goodness. You’re right. I cant obstruct this hallway any longer!”

Spencer doesnt know what power takes ahold of him, but suddenly he’s offering his hands to her. She grabs them, and he pulls her up, both of them knowing this should feel far more awkward and strange than it does.

“The stress this experience must have given you is unimaginable, I think it’s only right for me to fix what I can.” He tells her, managing to keep a straight face.

She crosses her arms. “What are you going to fix, and how?”

Spencer smiles slightly. “Close your eyes.”

And despite all those lectures about stranger danger when she was a child, she closes her eyes, a small smile breaking through her composure as she does. She hears a single clang.

“Ok, you can open your eyes.” Spencer says, his voice still quiet.

Her eyes open, meeting his immediately, before they travel down to the chocolate bar in his hands. Her jaw falls open, her eyes wide as he hands it to her.

“HOW DID YOU DO THAT!?!” She squeaks.

Spencer beams. “Magic! Arguably not my best trick, but an applicable one.”

She grins up at him, until an idea enters her mind, and then she smirks mischeviously. “Well I’ve got a trick of my own, close your eyes and hold your hand out.”

Since she trusted him, it’s only fair Spencer offers her the same courtesy. His eyes close and he holds his left hand out. Her hand wraps around his wrist and his heart start to race. The sound of a pen lid popping off reaches the young genius’s ears, but being as romantically clueless as he is, he doesnt make the connection. Well, he might’ve done, but the time she spent was way longer than it should’ve taken to just write a phone number. What is she doing?

Before he can process, something has been placed on his palm, and he feels someone breathe next to his ear.

“See ya.” She whispers, planting a sweet kiss on his cheek that lingers on Spencer’s cheek as the sound of your shoes hitting the carpet get further and further away.

He slowly opens his eyes, touching his cheek with his right hand while looking down at his left hand. Half of the chocolate bar he’d retrieved for her. Spencer smiles, his gaze travelling from his hand to his arm. He bursts out laughing.

He didnt even get to ask your name; you didnt ask his, there was no need, for some reason. The two of you just skipped over introductions. Morgan watched his friend with a fond smile, having seen the events unfold and making the executive decision to leave Spencer to it. i am in love. you've infected both me and my sister with your brainrot and captivating fics, we've talked about it non-stop the past few days, so naturally we have some questions.

But first, i want to ask what your boundaries are w/ fanart and writing. i've already drawn a couple pieces, are you alright with me posting them, and what should i tag them with? Also, i'm feeling very inspired to write more zed and tango for the travelling thieves au, is that alright if i take your ideas and just yoink them? Im not planning to post whatever i write at this point :P

anyways, moving on, i have a few world-building questions for you, starting w/ traveling thieves:

how does the mercenary guild and hits system work? Can anyone put a hit out on anyone, or do they have to be a wanted criminal? also, how does gem choose her targets? i like to believe she has some sort of moral compass in picking, but knowing the world they live in, i can't be certain

this is less of a question, but i don't see how the world can be resolved. For ttsbc, the obvious solution to the undercity folk living freely is that they overthrow the overcity government or just remove the laws keeping them banned. Sure, it'd be difficult, but from what we've seen, most people don't actually have strong prejudices against the undercity, they just vaguely believe they're evil, which can be very easily disproved. For traveling thieves, it's completely different, because not only is the discrimination in the government, it's in the people themselves; merely changing the laws would not change how people see hybrids, so how can that be fixed? My best solution to them all getting a happy ending is that they run away and found their own civilization where all hybrids can be free, but it doesnt seem like a likely scenario

again, not really a question, but I'm so so so happy in the latest fh piece that they looted the bodies of their attackers. the first time i read it through, i was practically screaming at the screen, telling them to grab the loot and weapons before they continued

4. how do the mobs work? do they act like any normal animal, in that they just kinda exist and happen to be very hostile, or do they follow minecraft mob mechanics and spawn into existence from nothing when the conditions are right? could they theoretically all be exterminated? do all of them dislike light, like the zombies in the cleo bdubs fic? if they do, why are they making their way to the overcity?

5. how did the undercity become a thing? Was it just always there, or was it manmade? did hybrids and mutants always live underground? are the pits really bottomless? and if so, is the world a globe, or is it flat? i understand you might not have thought very deeply about these things before jumping in, but my sister and i were theorizing about different answers. i figured the undercity isnt manmade just like the grand canyon isnt manmade, it just came about through natural processes, and mutants and hybrids just evolved(?) seperately from humans, underground, which is a whole other can of worms with the science behind that. an idea about the "bottomless" pits has to do with physics. at the center of the earth (if it were hollow), you wouldn't feel gravity because it would pull on you equally in all directions. so maybe the bottomless pit really just leads to the center of the earth, and you're not really falling forever, you're just suspended in the center forever lol. not falling, but not hitting the bottom, either

anyways, this was a really long ask (i hope thats ok), and i still have more to say, but i'll leave it there for now. again, i love the angst, and have a wonderful day. im gonna try to get some work done, but it probs wont happen with all the brainrot XD

ONTO THE QUESTIONS 🏃‍♀️

The mercenary guild is basically like the underground/illegal version of the adventurer guild, and they'll take any jobs that the adventurer guild won't. Blackmail, assassination, smuggling, you name it. Gem has something of a moral compass, but it isn't exactly the strictest thing in the world. We learn when she meets Mumbo in Grian's wing preening fic that she is on her way to assassinate a noblemans son, and while that is a bit of a wink wink nudge nudge if you can figure out who that son is, exactly, it's still Gem agreeing to kill a teenager who is guilty of little more than pissing off the wrong person. Cruel world and all.

Perhaps that's exactly point? 😌 With Traveling Thieves, I did not set out to make a world that could be resolved or escaped from...the whole point is that it is cruel and inescapable, and the best you can do is continue to protect yourself and those you care about...and even then, you might fail to do that. You might be set up to fail in a sick system that would never give you a chance in the first place. And the best you can do is try to put the pieces back together in the aftermath. I don't want Traveling Thieves to resolve in any traditional sense of the word...for where that'll lead all our various characters, well, you'll have to wait and see. 🤔

They're like your typical minecraft mobs, they spawn in places with low light levels! We've also got some homebrew monsters that I've come up with, such as the bird-men, that we will be meeting as time goes on. Certain monsters such as zombies do avoid light, but there are plenty of monsters will go above bedrock just like certain monsters in minecraft can survive in the sun, like creepers and endermen. No, they can never be exterminated because of how they spawn!

The pits aren't bottomless, we've seen the bottom after all, where Pearl, Jimmy, and Grian were in the Depths! It is a natural chasm beneath the bedrock, and the various caves and tunnels stretch are incredibly huge and diverse, so while everything connects back to the main cavern of the under-city that's so huge, there are also other caves and tunnels where other groups live that we will be learning about eventually, such as the blaze-born pyres or where Cub is from in the Deep Dark!

It is completely totally 100% ok! I love getting long asks like this that give me the chance to develop and worldbuild the AUs and mention some details that might never really show up within the fics themselves! So by all means send more questions and thoughts! And I'd also love to see the fanarts you mentioned if you still are up to posting them, I can't draw so anything anyone draws that has anything to do with my AUs makes me incredibly happy! 😆

so apparently someone translated the word kainyank, Lae'zel says to shadow when they are about to enter the helm after rescuing her. and it's not flattering at all, though I didn't find anything official myself, and that person claims a friend translated it to them, but regardless of the meaning, it is obviously diminishing by tone alone.

so that person is like "chill girl" and im like why should she?

did you say to shadow to chill when she outright go on about how Lae, A PERSON WHO SAVED HER ASS, is dangerous, that she knows of her kin, that you should not trust her, that "who put you in charge" line that gets the kainyank reply.

later on she keeps on saying that Lae left us, and we shouldn't look for her.

and then there is my playthrough were I failed the dice to open her damn pod, and mind you I didn't trigger Lae's "we have no time" dialogue, because I went straight to the machine. and since I failed the dice, and I need her ass to get the fire sword. I had Lae do the rescuing and talk to her, just go make a new game with a tav, and let Lae do the whole thing, and test all the lines, save scam and test them all, from the "I saved you cause you asked" to the rude ones, in every single case Shadow is ungrateful and refuses to join the party unless tav asks her.

in the case you dont save her, or not wake her up after the crush, she will be at the grove. and if you have Lae with you, she will unpromptly tell you, that Lae is going to stab you in the back, and you should ditch her if you want shadow to join.

Lae reacts with just saying "I offer a cure" she doesnt say anything that implies to exclude shadow.

so yeah "chill lae'zel, why wont you, this woman over there has only been racist to you from the moment you meet her, save her, offer her to join forces, how can you be so angry and rude and use whatever the diminishing word you said on her" /s

and if we are to speak plainly here, every single character EXCEPT KARLACH, be it companion, friend, or foe, has been racist at the very least to one race in the game, the goblins, the only one who said something good about them was Karlach.

and Lae'zel exhibits tendencies of unlearning and relearning, she had never been out of the astral plane, and her first reaction to tav, is "good im fortunate we can escape together" then when she's trapped, her first words are "I offer a cure" and when you release her, she says again "I have a solution and you gonna get it too" and she doesnt even know you so early in the game. you ask her what a creche is, and that yes you will join her to find it, and she instantly tells you you made a friend/ally in the githyanki.

when you correct her on the pronunciation of tiefling she doesn't disapprove(as in actively dropping her approval score) she rolls her eyes yes but what she says is that she doesnt know of and you will have to teach her.

so just up until the grove she has changed 40 times her world view, while shadow (and I pick on shadow cause no other companion is being anti lae) all she has offered is, insult after insult after insult, and discrimination, and bias.

if you have them together in the party, their banter is along the lines of shadow deaththreat and lae reacting with the same vigor.

later on lae asks shadow to tell her why she holds a relic of her people, accusing her of stealing it (which she did)

and the next thing we know is shadow trying to kill lae in her sleep, and even being canning enough to tell her "I will lie that you attacked me, everyone will believe me"

and you know what? lae could have killed her, if she wanted to, she's way stronger, and martially adept to do it, but she chooses not to.

and if tav takes shadows side, she kills lae

but if tav takes Lae's side, she simply hit her with a rock, but not kill her (even if the companions are bugged and talk about the massacre that just happened, while shadow is alive and well at her tent)

so if we compare the two, it's shadow that has to chill.

and dont get me wrong this is not some kind of attempt to hate on the character.

this is a mere observation and what actually happens in the game.

as I said at the beginning of this post, is the fandom's double standards that grind my gears.

There's a game where you play as a literal living doll with poisonous skin who's the clone of someone's long dead daughter being abducted by a fancy thief and now lives in steampunk London to start a new life BUT OOOHHH IT TURNS OUT YOU HAVE A SECRET LITTLE BROTHER WHO REVEALS YOU WERE THE 666TH CLONE EVER EXISTED AND IT TURNS OUT YOUR CREATOR DAD HATED YOU WOOOOOO SCARY!!! Ace and aro people are still a part of the lgbt+ community. What gender you have sex with or go on a date with does not determine whether or not you are apart of the community.

It is for EVERYONE that isnt the dumb narrow christian conservative vision of what a natural relationship is. And all that is, is natural born men and women waiting till marriage to have sex then having sex whenever the man wants and the woman cant express any sexual interest, neither allowed to do anything other than pure boring 5 second missionary sex, getting the woman pregnant, and having a lot of kids.
