In this weird wonderful AU Georg fandom that is OFMD we have so many beautiful options. I was never, ever an AU type until now, but I truly can't get enough. Just last night I stayed up entirely too late because I finally got into Wave Hello to the Void, which on its face should absolutely positively not be My Thing, but the AUs we're blessed with here seem to always break that rule (especially with mxmollusca involved because holy shit have you read In Favor With Their Stars yet???).
We're so incredibly lucky y'all. I've been in fandom spaces for a long time but I've never felt this lucky.
We get different takes on time travel. We get the multiverse (and in so many beautiful forms). We get thought-provoking fantastical allegories and devastating (but often hopeful?) prequels with fascinating studies of character and fascinating takes on soul mates. We get complete fantasy overhauls that are gem-like in the beauty and precision of their prose and world-building. We get darling modern AUs and heartwrenching (but still ultimately happily-ending) modern AUs and modern AUs in basically every possible permutation, including ghost stories.
We get dystopias and apocalypses and post-apocalypses, meditations on love and existence, metafictional experiments in Not-RPF that draw even the biggest RPF skeptics (*points to self*) in, leaving us to wrestle with fundamentally altered attitudes toward storytelling that we may never be able to reconcile. Hell, even the missing scenes, canon-divergence, and fix-its hit different. Not to mention westerns with outlaws and cowboys, an archetype which conveniently also manages to scratch the proverbial pirate itch.
Even though pretty much every fandom has these things, for me at least they've never felt quite so imaginative and well-executed. We're so lucky to be here, to be writing for each other and reading for each other and for many of us, feeling creative for the first time in years or even decades. The gay pirates did that for us, because good source material can be the key to great fan works. And whether or not we get a third season, as much as they can't take the show from us, they also can't take away the gift that getting to experience all these fanworks has been. That's something I'm going to keep reminding myself while we wait.
and idk maybe tell your cowboy fanart friends that Ed can also ride horses as a steppe warrior or whatever

Hello!
If you're not too busy, would you mind listing some of the things you think count as death flags for Mr. Spender?
There's the obvious fact that he's the "old" mentor to group of young protagonists, but what else do you think would count?
OHH BOY ok so I'd think I'm a crackpot for this but since we're talking about Zack "Foreshadowing" Morrison. I have some thoughts
No harm in leading with the (chronologically) first thing that jumped out at me:
This one IMMEDIATELY made me antsy whenever I came back to it after my initial read, and considering Zack has referred to it on twitter in the past as one of their favorite jokes it's definitely not been forgotten about.
Second, the sheer amounts of near-misses, jokey or not, of Spender narrowly avoiding specifically lightning
Again, not much, but it's weird that it happened thrice, latter two of which had real gravitas rather than an one-off joke.
And third, Spender himself. He's repeatedly shown himself to be kind of a self sacrificing idiot, as well as prideful to a fault. Granted, it's both him and Mina trying to take on all the responsibility of saving Mayview and its inhabitants from their fate..
But Spender is exactly that right measure of doesn't-value-himself-enough (chest footprint aftercare or lack thereof), having an obscene amount of power (enables his loner act + pride) and poor judgement that has the capacity to put him at great risk. And it has!
Spender has not only shown low enough self-esteem to view himself as the de-facto scapegoat for the safety of the town, but also prideful enough to make very bad calls that end up in people, often himself, hurt (COUGH FORGE INCIDENT COUGH)
This is all conjecture, but it's definitely enough to make me worried about him :') Even if all this doesn't mean he'll necessarily die he's definitely getting (even more) seriously injured at some point. I love the guy but he's so far doing a horrible job of convincing me he wants to live bad enough to circumvent at least that

ive read a decent number of fics where the new republic/ new senate just bosses luke around and i honestly just cant see that happening
like. i get that its inspired by how the jedi were treated by the senate in the prequels and a lot of those politicians would probably still be alive but luke is conceptually terrifying. One man did what an entire jedi order couldnt. most the politicians are gonna be people from the empire too and literally the entire empire is terrified of this guy like i cant imagine that the senate will be anything but scared of him.
i think theyd just kinda let him do his own thing. like clean up imperial remnants and fuck off to build his school. i dont think theyd force him to get arranged married LMAO

Love, Death and Rollerskates by @spadillelicious
Full Podfic Index on AO3
This podfic was originally recorded as part of a reading event hosted on the Superstar Daycare discord server, but after editing things and getting some great feedback I wanted to share it with others -- it's a beautiful story and is responsible for many many hours of brain worms <3
And to Spadille: thank you for crafting such an awesome story! I hope that I've given your characters the audio-based attention they deserve :3c

Hi!! I recently found you through a friend’s recommendation, and I absolutely love your work! So I was wondering if you had any recommendations of your fics? Cause they’re just so good and there’s a lot of them I just don’t know where to start!
aw thank you so much! also you should high five your friend, they have good taste 🤭
recommendations... well, i love all my children equally but some of them are better fit to start with than the others
many know my work by my three-year-lasting epic pirate au in darkness shall you be reborn, which i recommend reading on ao3 because i haven't updated the masterlist in quite a while. it's pretty indicative of my style and preferences and even shows my craft progress through the years
then there is we, the psychos, which has been going on since 2019 and which i recently picked up again. apart from ch. 1 & 2 it's all been written over the last month so like, the latest, the freshest of my writing
another pretty recent work is as we were falling, which i only posted to tumblr and not ao3. i wrote it in the middle of a writing block and the quality is not that good but it's a decent wip that i hope to continue
if you want a finished fic, then i have only one suggestion for you, and it's ex malo bonum. written pretty long ago in mania-like state over a month. it's pretty old and many forgot about it which i think is unfair it's pretty good
not sure if you want any of my original works, but just in case you do, here's my recent sci-fi short story Bloodeaters
and of course i can't forget the fic that still gets me the majority of "please update" comments, What Is Lost, What Is Found. it's my first real attempt at english writing, and it will probably show, but people love it
now we're getting deeper in arnold lore. i'm an avid fan of red dead redemption 2, which brought yall this fic: the wild, the wayward and the wicked. still hope to come back to it at some point
im also an even more avid fan of the fallout franchise, which, by analogy, birthed this fic: war?
the rest of my writing are mostly oneshots and sketches, and you can find most of them on my masterlist. it hasn't been updated in a while but i seem to have covered the major changes

I love too much tcba♥️ Itachi's pov leaves me with mixed feelings. I think partly because I tend to humanize Itachi too much and forgive the massacre as if it's not his fault. But analyzing everything, Itachi made his decision and that was his village.
itachi is such a loaded character to unpack, and i put the blame for, eh, most of it onto kishimoto's shoulders. the start of naruto canon sets itachi up as an unambiguous, bad guy, bogeyman type. he's mysterious, sure, but there's no doubting that he's an antagonist.
once we start to move into shippuden, tho, so much of the narrative framing of the series shifts. there's so much brilliant meta out there abt it that's better than what i'm saying rn, but essentially kishimoto takes the anti-authoritarian views from before (think wave arc) and starts backtracking. bc if he followed thru to the logical end, he'd end up having to write something that's anti-konoha and anti-state. and for whatever reason (editorial, maybe) he doesn't do that. so to set up konoha as a beacon of goodness, certain characters have to be Right and Good, and other characters have to be Wrong, and foremost among those characters is sasuke. and what's the easiest way to devalue sasuke's desire for revenge? make itachi the victim instead of the villain.
obviously there's a bit more to it than that, but personally i find itachi's narrative arc and subsequent martyrdom to be absolutely batshit. and i'm not abt to retcon the entire motive behind the massacre in my fic as i think it's really delicious, but my take is definitely less forgiving than some others that are out there.
that being said, even in my take, itachi is a victim. (he can be both victim and villain! he has the range!) he's honestly really pitiful.
one of the other things that i play w in tcba is objective truth versus perspectival truth, aka unreliable narration. is what the character is telling you is real and true actually the truth? so with that in mind, kabuto's view of things re:itachi at the end isn't necessarily wrong, but it's his view of things only. i doubt sasuke sees itachi continuing to live as nothing but a punishment...
honestly, i'm really glad that you have mixed feelings, because i don't think anything about itachi's situation is clear-cut other than that it's horrible! and thank you so much for liking tcba ˗ˏˋ ♡ ˎˊ˗
