Hi! Thank you so much! For the compliment and the great questions :) I took the Pottermore test online (when it was still called Pottermore) and my house is RAVENCLAW! Yaaaay! And I've always found the outcome confusing... I'm not book-smart. I'm not particularly worldly, either. But then I realised; I'm like Luna Lovegood. I have a vivid imagination and I like to figure stuff out, do research, and try new things. I can hyper-fixate on an obscure subject for weeks and learn everything about it, but I cannot do simple maths. It's a strange thing... But I've grown into the Ravenclaw House. I love it now :) Go RAVENCLAW!

Your second question is so fun! Here we go: I do actually write and illustrate my own stories. A year ago, I graduated art school with my own written and illustrated picture book. About a princess who wants to become a knight. With that, I got a lot of work in the childrens' book publishing world in my country. And I'm still working on my own stories. I haven't published my own stories yet, but there's talk about a first book next year :) (VERY EXCITING) You can actually check out my childrens' book work on my other Instagram page: splashofcolour23 I've also dabbled a little in fanfiction over the years but never published anything. I always get sidetracked with illustrating my characters and the story instead of writing it. Secondly; Spinel does exist in DitR! Unfortunately her fate didn’t change despite Rose and PD being separate gems. SU: The Movie and SUF both happen in this AU but a lot of things change (obviously with Rose being there) but oddly enough I keep Spinel more or less the same.

After her redemption although, she doesn’t have the Diamonds to go live with because in this AU, whenever Steven and the Crystal Gems went to Homeworld, White Diamond was never convinced to help and as a result of that Homeworld revolted and she was promptly banished. Yellow Diamond remained neutral in face of all this and decided to stayed on Homeworld and take charge of gems who didn’t want to go live on Earth. Blue Diamond did help and is in support of Crystal Gems so she and Spinel get to live on Earth together. I sadly haven’t put much thought into her because she not a big part of the main story :(

Here’s re-design though! I would make a more alien looking Spinel but in my opinion, she’s already pretty weird looking in the show. I loved drawing her and making her design fit into the AU.

Usually, they talk about their talents and skills as talents and skills they worked for or are gifted at, not hand-picked out for you by God because you won the hereditary monarchy draw. Looks are really the only exception where you get the "blessed" angle. Playing the piano is definitely a talent/skill, but all they're talking about is how beautfil Kate looks with any actual praise for what she's doing coming second or not at all. Here are some comments form British Vogue's Instagram as an example:

When you compare this to other comments about non-royal celebs, there is a key difference in tone. Both comment about how beautiful and talented the subject is, but only one has that underlying passive-aggressive tone. Only one implies that where there is "true" class there is also trashy, low-class, filth that Kate raises above like the world's whitest cream.

Their compliments of Kate are almost always rooted in her inherent superiority as a future queen over other women. I get that this is the sort of unspoken part of Kate's job, but it's still really fucking annoying and in general (not always, but in general) her stans are actually extremely racist and misogynistic so it's going to give me ick a lot of the time when they go on about "real womanhood" because we know exactly what they mean. Anyone who isn't a thin, white, cis-hetero, wealthy woman need not apply.

so in tags to my Cairn potrait @larksbian (thank you for the compliments btw <3) commented on the fact that I gave the quartz black sclera. I thought that's how it was in the manga but apparently not! Which prompted me to go and check whether Ichikawa draws gem eyes like that too or if it's just my headcanon.

So we know that gems coat themselves in powder, leaving only their hair and irises. And for some reason their... eyeball is white too. After Ghost got scraped off, Cairn's sclera was white too but I guess that makes sense cause Ghost had white sclera. When they were chiseled, their body was their "core" colour while the sclera remained white. Maybe Ichikawa drew it like that so that the eyes were more visible? We rarely if at all see gems without their coating. In the Freedom art book there's an illustration with gems in their "core" colours and the sclera is not white. I also checked some other coloured illustrations and mouths usually are "core" colour too.

TLDR; gems' sclera is their natural colour but they paint it. How? No idea but it must be a pain in the ass lol.

Some context because l'm a rambler by nature, I'm currently studying dance at college, and we're looking at the origins of burlesque, at the style and costumes I love love love the idea of Alec as a burlesque dancer. Him in one of the red or black costumes; covered in gems and tassels and feathers (I'm not sure how easy the feathered fans would be to draw but they're beautiful as well)

I can see him just absolutely owning it and definitely using it to his advantage to tease Magnus

Hello! I know im a new follower but i was hoping i could request a twisted wonderland match up? I'm a relatively shy person but wont shut up once i know you well. I can be kinda clingy too. I'm really into art and theatre so drawing and acting are my most prominent hobbies. I'm an INTP and tease people to show affection. I can do really well in school if i put any effort which i usually end up not doing. I love video games but don't get to play them very often because of show choir (singing and dancing in a large group for judges if you aren't familiar with it) I bake in the little free time i have during school, but laze around all summer. i love to buy stuff whether it's in person at a mall or online. “The Diamond of the First Water and the Gilded Lily, what a pairing we are in the eyes of Lady Whistledown,” Madeline remarked as she handed the pamphlet back to Eloise and took a seat beside Daphne in the drawing room.

“Lady Whistledown does not know you as I do,” Daphne took Madeline’s hands and gave her a reassuring smile. “You are not the emotionless lady she makes you out to be.”

“She’s right about you though, you will be the most sought after young lady at this evening's ball.”

As the two discussed their thoughts and expectations for the Danbury Ball as Daphne’s siblings filtered in and out of the room. When the conversation shifts to dancing, Daphne watches her friend's shoulders stoop in worry. Madeline had excelled in her studies, was a brilliant poet but struggled with dancing, though they tried to help her Madeline had stepped on many toes.

“Perhaps we should practice?” Daphne offered. Her timing lined up with the appearance of Colin. He’d come in to look for Benedict who was lounging nearby. “Colin, Benedict, would you please assist us?”

“In what?” Colin asked.

Looking at the ground in shame, Madeline responded, “Dancing, I am worried my clumsy performance may hinder my chances.”

The brothers moved to the women, Colin taking Daphne’s hand and Benedict taking Madeline’s. Madeline let him lead, trying not to look down at her feet but fear of stubbing her partners toes worried her. It was at her fourth glance down that one of Benedict’s hands moved beneath her chin and urged her to look at him.

“You are much improved but you cannot cast your gaze to the floor.”

“What if I lose my footing?”

“You won’t.”

“You cannot know that.”

“We have been practicing for years, you haven’t lost your footing in months.” When his reassurances did nothing for her, he sighed. “Would it help if I offered to be your first dance at tonight's ball?”

“You need not-”

“You are dear friend, I shall aid in any way I may.”

“Thank you Benedict.”

They continued to dance around, the four of them engaging in conversation, all trying to distract Madeline from her worries. It wasn’t long until they were all laughing and the dancing stopped in favor of continuing the amusing anecdotes. Violet Bridgerton entered the drawing room sometime later, flanked by Rose Nolan, Daphne’s lady’s maid and Viven.

“Ladies, it is time we prepare for the evening,” Violet ushered the two to follow. “Madeline, I had Vivven bring your things, you shall prepare in the guest room.”

“Thank you Violet, your kindness never ceases to warm my heart.” Madeline cast a true smile to the women and Vivven led the way.

A dress of deep, royal blue hung ready for her in the room. She also noticed her nightgown had been retrieved and knew she’d be spending the evening here instead of her family home. Vivven undressed her quickly and began tightening her corset to better suit the ball gown. She could feel the material scratching into her back and dreaded to think she may have a few cuts or sore later. The dress was dark, adding an exaggeration to her hair and forcing her normally blue eyes to shift into an almost gray color. The shoes a compliment but comfortable for dancing, Vivven had long ago determined the best style suited for comfort and display. Vivven left Madeline hair down but placed various pins and gems throughout the soft curls. The jewels she wore were simple and colorless to offset the color already present.

“You look beautiful my Lady.”

“Thank you Vivven, as always your work is unmatched.”

Vivven smiled wide, Madeline and her were close, not as close as Madeline was with the Bridgertons. But there was a connection and respect for one another, Vivven couldn’t have been more relieved to meet her mistress. She could have had it far worse, but the Walcot’s had been nothing but kind to her since day one and it only became more sincere as time passed.

Daphne entered the ballroom with her family, but Madeline entered alone. Violet had offered to send her sons with her as an escort but seeing the protective mode Anthony had turned on she thought herself better suited alone. The band was already playing loud music, young ladies already seeking out and cornering men, couples dancing the night away. As she made her way into the crowd she saw a few men notice her and change route, one barely being cut off by Benedict emerging hand out.

“Miss Walcot, I believe you promised me a dance.”

“Of course, Mr. Bridgerton.”

She let Benedict pull her to the dance floor but kept her eyes moving around to those looking at her. She was trying to gauge if they watched her in interest or something else to best decide who’s offer at a next dance best suited her.

“You know, it’s impolite to be scouting out other suitors while dancing with one.”

“But you're not a real suitor,” she teased. “You're more of an older brother.”

“And as such, I have made it my personal responsibility to protect you as an older brother should.”

“Did your mother put you up to that?” The smile he tried to hide was answer enough. “I assume that is why my night attire was relocated to your family home?”

“You can’t receive calls unchaperoned.”

“The staff-”

“Proper chaperons.”

“And how shall my callers know where to find me?”

“You need not worry, I shall handle it.”

“Are you to find me a husband as well?”

“If you are needing assistance.”

As their dance was concluded, Madeline was pulled into dance after dance with gentlemen who made little to no impact on her. The conversations were lacking, the chemistry non-existent, and their sights intently set on her sizable dowery. Finally managing to break free from the gentlemen to catch her breath, she ran into Penelope Featherington at the refreshments table.

“Pen, I have not yet seen you on the dancefloor.”

“And this is the first I have seen you off it,” Penelope gave her a forced smile. The two weren’t close but Madeline had always been kind, especially once she discovered the two had something in common.

“Perhaps you should ask Colin to dance?” Madeline whispered. Penelope looked at Madeline in surprise and fear. “Your secret is safe with me, but I confess my urging is selfish.”

“It is?”

“I hope your bravery in your pursuits,” Madeline began masking names when she saw Cressida Cowper nearby, should she overhear she didn’t want her to have any viable information. “Will help me with mine,” she clarified. “the one before him.”

“Truly?”

“Since I was a girl.”

“May I ask how you learned of my …” Penelope stopped.

“The way you look at him in secret, it is very much the look my mother used to give my father when he wasn’t paying her any mind.”

“I must be more discreet.”

“Or more open, but either you choose, I shall remain silent and secretly route for you.”

“Thank you Madeline.”

Madeline grabbed a glass and retreated to the open terrace for some fresh air. The moon was full in all its beauty, and the soft music from the hall drifted out to her. It brought her a sense of peace and then her mind wandered. Her and Daphne shared a desire to be mothers but how many children did she want? Would I look more like their father or more like her?

“Miss. Walcot what are you doing out here?” Madeline turned to see Lady Danbury approaching.

“Needed some fresh air.”

“Yes I noticed you had quite the line of men vying for your attention this evening.”

“Tis strange, I had thought it would be Daphne everyone wanted after the article.”

“And now Miss Marina Thompson has caused quite the stir.”

“But something tells me you aren’t here about the competition of the marriage market.”

Lady Danbury gave a rueful smile, “Your instincts are correct, I came to see how you are fairing. Managing the season on your own must be difficult.”

“You’re wondering why my father is not here,” Madeline said with a smile. “I’ve told everyone he is quite busy with his duties.”

“But you and I both know that is not the truth.”

Lady Danbury watched as Madeline’s smile fell and her eyes became glossy. Taking a deep breath she centered herself, forcing the unshed tears away but when she spoke her voice was thick with them. “He is ill, which is why I must marry this season.”

“My dear girl,” Lady Danbury moved closer, to offer a supportive embrace should she need it.

“No one knows, not even the Bridgertons. Father doesn’t want anyone to know but you can see it, he looks far older than he should and he is often tired.”

“And have you? Found a potential husband.”

“No, and I worry I will not.”

“Madeline!” the voice of Violet broke the conversation, Madeline quickly plastered a smile on her face as Violet approached. “We are retiring for the evening.”

“Thank you, Lady Danbury for the wonderful evening.” Madeline bowed and followed Violet to the carriages. The secret she’d shared with Lady Danbury weighed less on her heart now that she’d been able to speak a little on it. And though Lady Danbury enjoyed gossip, she knew when certain secrets needed to remain as such.

The following morning, Daphne had woken her early with an eagerness Madeleine couldn’t muster. As they prepared to receive callers, Daphne tried to pry out Madeline’s anxiety but Madeline kept the conversation solely focused on the potential suitors and Daphne’s prospects. Sitting in the drawing room, both women were surprised when no callers showed.

“Did we perhaps offend anyone?” Madeline asked, confused.

“You were quite popular last night according to Whistledown, I don’t imagine the gentlemen would ignore you,” Eloise popped up reading from the gossip column.

“But Daphne is the diamond of the season-”

“And Anthony was scaring away anyone who deemed to speak to me.”

“Their fear of him is keeping the hall empty.” Madeline concluded. “Perhaps I should return to my family home.”

Madeline felt guilty abandoning Daphne when she was clearly upset with the turn of events but she needed to think of herself at the moment. Daphne would forgive her soon enough.

Arriving at her home, she’d been correct, she did have callers waiting for her. She apologized profusely to them all and invited them into her drawing room, the staff all following to act as chaperons. She took her time engaging all in conversation and it quickly became noticeable that half were here for the price tag on her and the other half here for the gossip of courting her. She tried to keep an open mind because she was technically using them as well.

As the morning drew to an end, she had found one man who she thought she could befriend and be content to be his wife. Lord Baxter, he was a third son of a Baron. Not as high in the instep as she had wanted but he made her laugh and she felt comfortable. If she were to marry him, she’d have to do it soon though, before her father’s illness made it impossible for him to teach Lord Baxter everything he’d need to know to be an Earl.

She looked up mid conversation with the Earl and realized he was the only caller remaining. She’d managed to speak with everyone briefly but perhaps her additional time given to Baxter had dissuaded the other men. Either way, she determined she could be content with a life as his wife but she wasn’t going to throw all her eggs in one basket.

HELLO!!! I can’t believe it took me my 2nd rereading of the series to realise you guys had an official Tumblr, but I’m just here to gush over how much I adore this AU! It has to be HANDS DOWN my favourite rendition of Silm fanwork— I looked forward to working my way through all 400+ fics during a rather tough month every night, so it was serious comfort content for me!! The amount of research, planning and depth that goes into each piece just never fails to astound me. Estrela and Caranthir and Gwindor are among our author-favorites to write for, especially since our adaptations of them feel so personally developed at this point. It's hard to remember sometimes that Estrela is the literal sun in Tolkien canon, or that Gwindor and Maedhros were never friends.

As for Maedhros, it seems fair to say that he's the central character, the primary protagonist of this retelling, and we strive to make him interesting and tragic and funny and poignant and [very hot] and so, yes, a gem. Thank you for loving him! Not a day goes by in the authorial groupchat when we're not talking about him. For a while his physical action necessarily stagnated because of his injuries, but we did our best to keep his character growth forward-moving, and use the time (ahh, The Healing Year, was it like half the AU or something? :D) to develop many relationships that were set up early on.
