OOh i haven't answered this before (I'm like, 60% sure, but i feel like I did, either ways I'm answering).

Akashi Strengths: He's committed, unrelenting in pursuit of his goals, never gives up, ruthless and dedicated. I like his ambition and wish I had even an ounce of that. He's also very confident and assertive.

Weaknesses: Doesn't know how to cope when his plans do fail, he crumbles like a cookie. He's so controlling and I think he has this set, specific plan, and if it doesn't go the way he expects he just collapses with no way to get back up.

Furihata

Strengths: Determination, resilience, commitment, dedication. I think he's also the type to like, go all in if he's doing something. He joined the basketball club to impress a girl but he eventually gets more invested in b-ball to the point he just never mentions the girl again and keeps training despite knowing he'll never match up to GoM.

Weaknesses: Quick to get scared, low confidence. I honestly can't think of any prominent or truly debilitating weaknesses for Furihata. Like I always say his most memorable scenes are of him freaking out but who wouldn't in the situations he was put in? And even then, he recovered and kept going. He's got a lot of small shortcomings like any regular human but he recovers from it pretty quick.

I love the AkaFuri dynamic because of the way their strengths and weaknesses compliment each other. While Akashi on the outside looks very strong, immovable even, we see how quickly he kinda collapses when he's faced with even the prospect of failure. Furihata on the other hand is very familiar with falling short, he knows full well that he doesn't know everything or has the ability to overcome people better than him, but he tries anyways. Akashi on the other hand, would freeze if he doesn't have a plan. I think Furihata can teach Akashi that it's fine to fail sometimes, that's how you learn. Losing isn't something to fear and even that allows you to have good takeaways.

Akashi knows his own worth and can figure out his caoabilities, and I think that kinda ability to evaluate onself can help Furihata gain confidence in himself.

They seem like they'd get along if they got to properly speak, and I have a hc(which I'm convinced would be canon) that in the tird-year, Furi would be team captain for Seirin and Akashi is obviously for Rakuzan. There's this character bible that says Furihata' the one who gets the first-years of Seirin, including Kagami and Kuroko, to do what they're supposed to. I think the word used for him was something like 'mediator' or 'leader'. So, Captain x Captain!!!! The boy who once cowered and couldn't even stand against Akashi meeting him on equal footing!!!

ONTO ZUKKA!!

Sokka

Strengths: Creativity, resilience, leadership skills, he's very practical, ability to stay calm in difficult circumstances, surprisingly forgiving.

Weaknesses: Doesn't ask anyone for help, bottles up his insecurities and emotions, pessimistic, cynical as hell.

Zuko

Strengths: Strength of character, he's like a cockroach he just keeps coming back he cannot be defeated, inner strength, this ability to just love people, compassionate(yeah, wild).

Weaknesses: He's a one trick pony imo like man has 5 moves, doesn't think anything through, not very good at communication.

I like their dynamic because of the Boling Rock episodes tbh. They make a very good team, it's the compliment of Brain & Brawn. They also have the Akafuri thing, where Sokka needs all his plans to go exactly right or he freaks out, while Zuko is familiar with failing and so he can teach Sokka how to embrace that. They're both such nerdy dorks in their own way, and I think their interactions are hilarious.

Wonder would prefer not to be seen, its very embarrassed at its state when its sick and fully expects to lie alone in the dark and melt and wheeze until its looking perfect and hot and beautiful again. it hates this form of weakness, but it also just. hates. feeling sick (don't we all, tbh). its not...ASKING Marya to come by and take care of it, but it is really, really nice of her to do so. even though Wonder is pretty ashamed at how needy and miserable they get (even more needy and miserable than usual)

Pretty hard....it was even worse when Marya was younger. she pushed everything down and tried to justify the actions she was taking- some of them justified, yes, but there's always another way. nowadays, she's better on herself. she's learned, she's matured, she knows she's messed up and she's trying to do better. she IS doing better. she's a good person, just not a good mom. she's trying to own up to her mistakes, but it's hard for her to be open about them to others.

[33] What are one of their fondest and most treasured memories?

Definitely the first time her son recognized her.

She loves to sing!! she's not a trained singer, but she's plenty confident with it. she's a good singer in the sense she gives it all of her chest and she has fun going along to songs on the radio. she loves music, she always has a song stuck in her head and is humming along to it. she really wants to encourage Wonder to sing with her...just for fun!! she promises it'll be fun!!! no cameras!!!

My Old Nick hc's, interpretation, analysis, and other odd bits PT.2

Part 1

I really did not expect to have this much to say about him but I'm also not surprised

Read the previous part because I'll be building off the first one here

Only TW is broken bones and lightish body horror but then again its just kinda bleak

Playing off the hc that Nick its literally just slowly rotting away, thats why i typically draw him with like frost bite wounds, and for a reason why his physical condition fluctuates every time i draw him is that his physical condition and power is directly related to how popular/ feared/ believed in (yes i am aware of the irony of having his power be tied to popularity considering that no-one besides me and like 2 other people give a shit about him, i think its funny)

I'll flesh the whole popularity=power thing later as per usual

Nick is physically very weak and frail and if it weren't for his magic coughing on him could probably kill him tbh

His bones are just disturbingly frail and I imagine as a bit of a twist on like the question of "how would Santa get in if you didn't have a chimney?" And I was like what if Nicks just broke his own bones to get into places, like horribly twisting and and breaking his body to get to you (Kinda played around with this idea in Kidnapping PSA, but would love to go harder with it in the future)

Nick is also severely underweight for his height of 7ft, and not for his own doing he just can't put on much weight. He hates how skinny and physically weak he is without magic.

His clothes work to make him look much larger and imposing than he is, like how prey a animals stance up to make themselves scarier to predators

He has an abnormally low body temperature, he is physically cold to the touch, he's very temperature sensitive and will pass out if it goes above 60°

You just know his skins dry as hell....

Imperceptibly shivers, very minor and you can't really see it if he's moving around but if he's just sitting down reading you can see it; he really hates it because it makes doing anything with very fine detail very hard

Cannot image Nick many- if any friends

and his ex-husband doesn't count, like he might have business partners but those aren't people you see outside of a meeting or a business dinner. Like the only person who really tolerates him like that is Merasmus.

There divorce was honestly pretty amicable, don't mean Nick doesn't regret it, because i don't think he's gonna find another person who tolerates him like that again

Very much overshares like so often, you could just be taking his order at the register and he will be on about how much he misses his ex for like 30 minutes and you just have to awkwardly cut him off and ask if he wants ketchup or not

Oh speaking of ordering food, Nick totally heckles any poor waiter or cashier that have the misfortune of encountering him. He wants to speak to your manger right now.

He is just so inconceivably petty... The slightest disrespect to him and he's doing some ludicrous shit to you. Scuff his shoes? he's signing you up for the military. Spill your drink on him? He's ruining your credit score.

I image the lay out and construction of his mansion is just strange, a majority of it is under ground to avoid the arctic winds and prevent damage. But the internal lay out is this Winchester like maze, halls that lead to nothing, tall narrow stares into darkness, no windows, empty useless rooms that no-one has entered in over century- maybe even forgotten. I think even he gets lost some times, know one really knows why he just keeps building and adding on, but he keeps just doing it.

Someone smarter than me can probably write up some dissertation/ comparison about how Sarah Winchester kept building out of guilt and fear of the spirits of the people who where killed by her family's weapons.

He can play piano quite well but he just hasn't played in a while...

He has the vibe of that horribly toxic theater kid you knew from high-school who makes that time they got lead role in a play there whole personality

argh silver I tried sharing this on a cloti discord but I couldn't find the guts to talk because of my anxiety. It's bad, I know. I shared it here anonymously before as well but maybe it's not something you'd like to entertain. But I just wanna give it another shot.

What if instead of getting LA and HA for HW in part 3 (because 💯 HA is not changeable), we get one for A instead. Our last interaction with her is when she gets attacked by C who's not right in the head. LA is when T is able to reach C more easily because their connection isn't weakened at all, therefore, A doesn't get hurt as much (but will). HA is when T has more difficulty protecting A and getting C back to his senses because the player has weakened C's connection to T (but it's still there), so uh it wouldn't look good, maybe she'll get hit off screen. We are supposed to be scared of C, no matter what happens and question who this guy really was all this time.

If LA acted out like a punishment in HW, then this HA acts out like a punishment for the player. For ignoring her warning in part 1 . Her " no matter what you do" with a very serious face sounded and looked very sinister. Like something she didn't want to see nor happen because both cases of LA and HA is when a friend tried to kill her. Likewise, HA would also make her lower her defenses because affection points are indication of the character's affection for the player, not C himself.

this would leave a food for thought that enabling C, as the player to get close to their primary target to kill, a cetra, an enemy, and getting farther away from his anchor, T, is not a good thing.

Still I'm sure there are those who will romanticize this, but I will ignore them. There's a reason why the infamous Harry Styles fanfic film 'After' is still a thing 🤢. But for those with Common sense, they would clearly understand the severity of it, if they actually care, as the player, about A. Because C doesn't really have control over this, he is but a puppet, unless we understand what he wants, and if we do, he would not stray away from T. And both cases, still leads to him having guilt in ACC because in the end she still died, and C is not a bad person unless the audience wants him to suffer for their HC. But such wouldn't make sense, because part 1 sets the tone that he actually prioritizes T more than anybody. Likewise, the same repeats in part 2. I mean his entire arc in Part 1 was about being desperately able to comfort T lol, nobody else had that even when he knows A for example needed it during the playground scene talking about Z, he just listened, being a friend, but not as frustrated as when being unable to comfort T.

But that's it 😭 It's just a theory that'll probably be nonsense but I think I find this more plausible than two versions of GSD. Because the latter doesnt really add anything.

I'm sorry I just don't see the point of a high or low affection physical assault scene.

Tbh this game sounds like filler. It's got stupid ass wasteful scenes, dumbass 60 hrs worth of minigames and sidequests and the main scenario only goes to the forgotten city, so they literally saved all the best parts of the story for part three. They even moved Wutai and Fort Condor, and we don't even get to play with Vincent or Cid in our party.

This game is filler.

My expectations are low.

My Personal Chart Review (26/4/23)

So, this week was a bit of a mess. We had the Beyoncé album bomb fall off slightly, with Tiësto replacing it. The top 5 remains mostly unchanged, with TRUSTFALL down 1 to #5, Can’t Tame Her down 1 to #4, but then we have Flip A Switch. up 15 places to #3 due to the Coi Leray remix, with 10:35 up 21 at #2 thanks to album boost and finally, of course, I Go Dancing at #1 for a 10th week.

Our losers this week were all over the place. Kill Bill slipped 16 down to #18 due to the remix boost falling off, while Before The Night hit #20, Commander slips to #22, AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM dropping to #25, plus Body Better just can’t keep up as it falls 15 to #31. Also, updown hits #34 but will likely rise next week due to the fumble release boost. Meanwhile, Crazy What Love Can Do continues to slide off the 52 week boost to #35, and CUFF IT completely falls off the album boost to #36. If We Ever Broke Up & Whistle both slip 13 places respectively to #42 & #43, Sing It Back & Oh Baby drop 12 to #45 & #46, with Bad Vibe continuing its radio falloff to #47. We then have a few consecutive drops, those being Boy’s a liar Pt. 2 at #51, Dancing In The Dark at #52, All By Myself at #53 and B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All) at #54. Then, Red Ruby Da Sleeze slips 11 off the big rise last week to #60, Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) hits #65 and Stay The Night hits #67. Finally, Lost The Breakup & Calm Down take heavy drops to #74 and #75 respectively.

As for our songs exiting the top 75, CHURCH GIRL slips hard off the album boost from #32, Do U Want Me Baby? completely tanks out from #36, Like A River drops out the top 100 altogether from #42 (however it’ll most likely re-enter soon), SUMMER RENAISSANCE is out from #54, Home For My Heart slips to #76 from #57, with The Ocean & Don’t Come Back To Me out from #60 and #61 respectively. Continuing on, About Damn Time is gone from #65, Never Gonna Not Dance again also has continues its radio falloff from #66, with 16 Again underperforms as it exits from #69 and Beyoncé loses PURE/HONEY (#58), ENERGY (#59), THIQUE (#67) and HEATED (#72).

As for our returns, Options continues its radio run at #72, Karma surging in virality to #62, Easy Lover is back in at #50 and the rest are all from Tiësto, those being All Nighter at #23, The Business at #19, Don’t Be Shy at #16, The Motto at #9 and Hot In It at #7. As for the gains, Mary Jane. surges up to #58, AM:PM jumps off the debut to #15 and Lay Low surges 35 places to #10 due to the album boost.

#61 Jimin - Like Crazy

So, it’s not often that K-pop has any success on my chart.. let alone from a BTS member. Set Me Free Pt. 2 is absolutely godawful, but this really surprised me. I really really dig this. There’s something about it that I just really like and can’t figure it out, but this has been just under the top 75 for a few weeks now, and it’s gaining fast.

#56 Tiësto ft A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie - Chills (LA Hills)

I don’t know what I was expecting with this tbh, but yeah it’s good enough. Not my favourite from Tiësto but it’s solid, however I doubt it’ll stick around.

#44 Tiësto ft AR/CO - Back Around

I liked this one more than I thought I would. Again it’s a solid track but I don’t see it lasting more than 1 week due to a low replay factor.

#38 Tiësto ft Freya Ridings - Bet My Dollar

3 Tiësto debuts in a row, huh? So, upon original release I thought this was okay. Nothing special, but not awful either, however it’s grown on me a bit since the tracking week begun, hence the higher debut. I like Weekends more than most people, and tbf the whole vibe of this song seems Weekends-like, so that’s probably why. Overall the best new Tiësto track.

#37 Ice Spice ft Nicki Minaj - Princess Diana

This really is Ice Spice’s year it seems. I liked this when it was released, however it didn’t get a high enough replay factor and only made it to #96, however it also grew on me this week and therefore made its way here. Both rappers’ flows compliment the beat extremely well and it’s a song that’ll easily get stuck in your head. Pretty damn good.

#30 FIFTY FIFTY - Cupid (Twin Version)

So, we’ve got two K-Pop debuts this week, with this becoming the highest charting once since Pink Venom. Upon first listen, I just found this average. However, due to one of my friends liking it so much it got to #1, and growing support for it, it ultimately grew on me quite a lot and yeah, this is an absolute bop. 100% worth a listen if you haven’t already.

Well, that concludes this week. Best of the week goes to FIFTY FIFTY with “Cupid (Twin Version)”, whilst Honourable Mention goes to “Princess Diana” by Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj. Next week, expect new entries from the likes of Sudley & piri, Sonny Fodera & an album bomb for my aunt. We love nepotism. 😍

→ TAEIL would direct conversations to a more neutral stance. it’s not that he wants to talk about himself, but sometimes if you don’t want to talk about your case or patients, he easily slips into conversation about theories or his favourite tv show or your rundown of what groceries to take for the next time you head to the supermarket. just really normal small things that take your mind off the stress, especially at night when you’re laying in bed and just before you’re drifting off to sleep, the two of you would engage in a topic that you both know fairly well about and then you’re usually the first to succumb to sleep. taeil purposely picks out topic he knows will excite you (and bc he knows you’re passionate about it, he reads up on it which allows a well-balanced convo). if you’re rambling on about a topic, then he’ll occasionally play the guitar while laying down, just simple melodies that bring a lot of peace to the room.

“wait- how d’you like this melody?” taeil softly says, changing it instantly when you commented on the previous, discordant one. your nod encourages him to carry on with the plucking of his fingers while you yourself continue with your rambles. “so i’m saying right, it seems totally unfair for him, and you’d think that, right? but all he ever does is whine and moan about his misfortunes, plus his character is so terribly written i kinda feel sorry for-“

the halted melody prompts a sharp turn of your turn to the guitar, which you almost collide with, “what?” taeil only shrugs. “nothin’. just like how passionate you get about the show, it’s cute.” your boyfriend smiles after, ignoring how his words affect you and how your cheeks heat up at it.

→ JOHNNY is one to take you out after your work. it’s not to a super intense, high-energy place like a club or anything, but small little dates that won’t take up much time. eating dinner at a restaurant, walk in the park, small cafe trip, strolling through supermarket to make fun of brand names. if you’re too tired that day, he always finds a way to make your time at home fun. from setting up a small karaoke session, to maybe making a pillow fort, to trying out new cuddling positions, he has everything on his mind. always showing you things to cheer you up if you happen, from memes to funny videos. is low-key down for you to review crime/doctor shows too, just to see how accurate they nail it. your time at home is consuming endless pieces of media until your tummies hurt or you’re sniffling at a movie together.

“hold on- lemme show you this video,” johnny’s hand is outstretched to you once he finds the video and your spoon full of food is left near your mouth. you proceed to watch the low quality video which your boyfriend claims to be the funniest video on earth.

W-HOR? WAH? the girl’s finger in the video traces over the word “who” as she struggles to pronounce it, with presumably her sister in the background prompting her. the repeated pronunciation of the word makes you snort, while the wheezing and the loud NO in the background causes you to fully erupt into laughter. johnny simply smiles at another successful attempt to make you smile.

→ YUTA always has a hand on you when you return home. he brings you into a hug, he guides you by your back, you have to eat with one hand bc he can’t keep his hand off of you. he hopes his little touches will ease your tiredness even by a bit and if you don’t want it, he’ll stop, but it’s yuta’s way of showing he cares without words. busy days with yuta usually involve just sitting in silence as you catch up on a show or a series, or even listening to a song in silence and enjoying each other’s company. he will talk if you want to, but if not that’s fine too, preferring more to stroke your hair in silence and think about how much he loves you. becomes very sappy when you’re in the quiet of your room and generally is very fond of the small pockets of time you get to spend before you two fall asleep. likes that you’re so resolute in your job but can be soft around him behind closed doors.

“you comfortable?” yuta calls out, barely above a whisper as he wraps an arm tighter around you. there’s comfortable ministrations that his does with his fingers, massaging the skin under your pajamas while you snuggle deeper into his chest. humming, you tighten your hold around his top.

“i am, yeah,” you can’t care much for the tv show on the screen now, with empty takeout boxes and tissues littering the coffee table. you feel the gentle kiss of yuta on your head before you’re drifting off to dreamland to a scratchy, 60s jazz song playing through the speakers.

→ TAEYONG would always welcome you back with a table set and food ready, always. he knows that food is the way to someone’s heart and you eating his food always makes him happy and offers to clean-up. lets you shower first if you come back together, puts you before himself very often that sometimes you have to tell him to tone it down because you don’t want him ending up more tired than he already is. following up on this, taeyong would show his love by cooking your lunches for you. when he has the time he makes the effort to put it in a nice bento or box for you to eat. he also does the general chores around the house (assuming the two of you live together) so the bed will be a little less messy when you come back, the floor’s cleaner, the countertops aren’t so cluttered with stuff. even if there’s nothing to clean up, he always these small little things before you come back, and even if you don’t notice it, he sees the way you’re able to navigate the space or when you’re more at ease and it makes him smile.

“do you want to shower first?” taeyong calls out softly, admiring the clean house he’s managed to do up before he went to meet you, “i’ll just hang around until you’re done.”

“you need to prioritise yourself too, yong,” you pout, rubbing a hand up and down his forehead as you toe off your shoes, “how ‘bout we shower together? you did clean the house up pretty nicely.” that earns a grin and a kiss from taeyong, who goes straight the prepare the bath. you chuckle, “he’s already forgotten what i’ve told him.”

→ DOYOUNG supports you silently and listens to your day when you return home and talk about your patient or a case you’re working on. he gives you his own input when he sees fit but other than that he wants you to explain the details. being a doctor and lawyer is crazy and hectic and just wants you to know that you’re appreciated in the workforce. the way he might show his love when caring for a busy s/o like you is when he brings you stuff that you might’ve forgotten like an umbrella or your lunch since you were rushing out of the house earlier. he doesn’t mind going the extra mile to you literally bc it’s a win-win! you get your food, he gets to see you, etc. if not he’ll send someone over to pass it to the receptionist, or he’ll make up for it by meeting you outside the office to apologise and then ask you what you wanna do so he can make it up to you.

“did you manage to get the bento i bought you?” doyoung asks worriedly through the phone, holding up a hand to the staff member who was beckoning him to his photoshoot. “you bought so much!” you exclaim, with a shoulder to your ear, phone perched in between, “thank you doyoung.”

“’m sorry i couldn’t come over to give you your lunch today, angel. i’ll see you after you’re done with work, okay?” you smile at that, shooting a quick reply before you delved into your food.

→ JAEHYUN would honestly serve you once you come back from a busy day tbh. where taeyong does the chores around the house, jaehyun helps by doing the chores on YOU and only you. giving you massages, bringing you dinner on a tray, other unsaid things… and maybe even carrying you from room to room lol he’s relentless and just goes you need to rest, lemme help. big gentleman even when you reject him, doing smaller things like constantly checking up on you, pulling the blanket higher onto your body, cuddling you closer to his body when it’s cold. on top of that jaehyun also one that would meet you at your workplace and take you out like johnny, but those dates are extremely chill. he lets you choose, and when you’re not sure, he takes you on a night picnic at the field or a rooftop, just dinner, but outside bc the view is really nice and he likes the way you look even after a long day of working.

“where should we park our mats?” your head moves from left to right, looking for a suitable spot while you tug on jaehyun’s hand. he hums at it, searching for a spot just like you are. the wind’s blowing gently when you settle near a tree, mat occasionally flying up which you counter with your heavy laptop bag.

“any idea where we can get desserts later?” you call out as a half-joke, not expecting jaehyun to pull up his phone to instantly search for a baskin robbins. “there’s one close-by, wait here for a minute and i’ll go get one for you-“ you laugh before pulling him back down, “don’t worry! we’ll go together, plus i don’t want to be left alone.” jaehyun softly smiles, nodding along as he takes out the food he packed.

→ JUNGWOO has similar intentions like johnny, except he would just wanna stay home. where johnny’s goal is to make you laugh, jungwoo just likes doing things together at home. playing board games, folding the clothes together, making dinner together. it’s not that he doesn’t want to do it, but when he’s given free time he sometimes just likes to laze at home and rest from schedules. he sometimes takes himself out of bed to help before you come back but he’s lazy lolol. loves it when you’re both equally tired and living off 5h of sleep. it’s not romanticising the lack of sleep but your schedules just don’t allow you to sleep equal amounts of hours of sleep. through that, you’re at least able to connect over sleepy talk and droopy smiles while you make the bed or assemble a lego piece or playing video games. if jungwoo’s energetic enough he doesn’t mind doing the crazier activities but he generally prefers those activities done in semi-silence while you exchange jokes and funny videos.

“noooo- no! you only need to move three times, you’re cheating-“ jungwoo pouts and moves back your playing avatar back three spaces on the board game. you purse your lips, not expecting him to see it since he was particularly invested in the movie playing on the screen. knowing it was a shitty film, you tried to talk him out of it, but he insisted. with eyes glued to the screen a few seconds earlier, you took your chance to move down one more space in order to get the benefit on the game board.

“you’ll get to buy a house soon, honey,” jungwoo grins cheekily, laughing even more when he’s able to move four steps, landing on the square that you wanted. now it was your turn to pout as he flips the card for property purchases, happily placing it next to his five other houses. “you’re so annoying!” you say as you fall back on the bean bag, but jungwoo doesn’t believe it when he sees a smile poking out from behind the hands shielding your face..

→ MARK sends you a looooot of texts. your convos with him are just him spamming questions or sending you memes. on every platform LMAO he has tweets sent, ig dm’s are blowing up from the weirdass nct memes that some of the fans make, he uses the official nct tiktok account to send you viral trending videos and he’s like we should try this!!!! and it’s a couple doing acrobatics or some shit. he’s crazy. anyway, he just likes to share things with you, from songs, to playlists, to youtube videos or interesting topics like crime psychology or movie theories etc. he knows that you’re hardly going to see it in your job but he sees the way you react across the room when he sends you stuff so he’s sure that you’ll like it after you get off work. sometimes likes to rickroll you, he knows it’s an old trend/troll thing but the thrill of seeing your frustrated replies always make him laugh out loud. when you’re back home, the both of you review whatever you send each other and then laugh together at them.

“hey, babe, check out this video,” mark says in a text, pasting a twitter link to a video. the video starts out interesting enough, mentioning something about a fun fact with stunning visuals has you wanting to learn more. when the guy in the video starts on his first word, the video immediately changes to rick astley with never gonna give you up. you mutter a small fuck under your breath, gaining a bit of attention from your colleagues during lunch break.

under the table, you flip him off in a picture, which he responds with a big smile of his that’s obviously teasing you for falling for it. you’re going to get it when i get back home!!!!! on a new high, you text the message and set your phone down, already excited for the evening where’d you be able to spend your time with him.

→ HAECHAN is a mix of everything kinda. he’d bring you out after work sometimes and other times likes to stay at home, mainly takes you out to eat after work, but that’s the extent of his after-work-escapades, he doesn’t want to tire you out too much. i think one prominent things he likes to do to is vlog to you, send you videos of what he’s doing on set or at home and just treats your convo like a bank for endless videos. y’know how there’s this video feature in telegram? he sends sooo many of those that you have the time of your life watching those on the ride back home. if you have time, you HAVE to facetime him during your lunch break and tell him how you’re doing and how’s your work coming along. do i have to kick someone’s ass for making you feel uncomfortable? is that patient being creepy again? and you have to explain that haechan, no, that patient is an elderly you cannot beat his ass. he’s like i don’t care, creepy dudes are not excused!!! and you can’t help but smile at that. always wants to be talking to you, close to you. if one day, you’re able to bring him to your job, this man follows you around like a lost puppy and just admires what you do, it’s endearing.

“ah, wait- you know how the sister, xia ling was sent to shut down the ten rings army? well… i just reviewed some of the articles and-“ the video cuts into the next one, haechan’s face zoomed in as he looks straight into the camera, “y’know, she might become a villain one day, i don’t know. maybe i should review some of the comics too?”

“anyway! come look at our set for the music video! it’s sexy, outfits are fire, sets are so good, the choreo this time isn’t too hard, either.” haechan asks the other members to wave as he passes them by, no doubt going his own make-up and hair after the others were already done, “okay, gotta go- love you bye!” you smile at that, texting a quick reply before you open up a video of your own, whispering through the speaker with a promise that you’d see him tonight.

sloane, also/sometimes called soso. from a somewhat affluent and successful, authoritarian family, with a lot of expectations on her shoulders. she sort of outran those and her entire past and ended up on another/preordained path but ayyy. 

went to business school as her parents wanted her to.

the middle of 3 kids to her parents. she walked that thin line between doing what she wanted (aka rebelling like her younger brother, and being the obedient/good daughter, like her older sister), and sort of felt alienated/squished into her family dynamics for a long time.

(/tw here for some homophobia) she is a lesbian and after years decided to come out to her family. it generally didn’t go well, but she and her sister grew a closer bond out of it. they were never close as kids but as adults they were able to share more and understand each other better.

she became a photographer eventually, despite her business degree, because she decided to do something for herself for once.

her sister moved to roswell for a while all on her lonesome.

fast forwarding to make this intro more succinct, but her sister went missing after a year or so. 

eventually, sloane got up the courage to follow her through the mysterious circumstances, to try to find out what was going on for herself. partially just to be closer to the memory of someone she loved who she felt she had lots of regrets and missed opportunities with.

she’s been in roswell for like a year herself. seems no closer to finding out clues to what happened to her sister. she still puts up fliers, posts online, and hasn’t really given up. but she is jaded about it all and has no idea where to go from here. she’s close to burying the lead and all her reserves and just giving up.

she’s not really content with her life and her emotional state is a disaster.

she’s a low/sweet/soft spoken woman, but not shy or reserved about her thoughts or her opinions. now more than ever she wants to be an authentic person. whether that means pissing people off, living however she wants, doing crazy things, slowly devolving into a crazy conspiracy theorist or not.

very thoughtful, very artful, very cautious with her energy and her time. she’s emotionally walled off despite coming across as open. especially when it comes to romance. she plays a strong game like she’s interested, but she’s the quickest to ghost. very not interested in being the one who gets hurt or in losing someone else. in a way? afraid to love tbh.

obsessed with random shit. 60′s-00′s music, tv and aesthetics? the type to take lots of random candid pictures, the blurrier the better. in her mind, happiness is in a smile you don’t know she captured. will absolutely wear a jacket even in the summer, don’t try her. slouchy clothes that hide her because she doesn’t want to be perceived, pls do no perceive her!!! always tired but doesn’t sleep well. and fairly open about her lgbtqa+ self. again, she can come across as very open/direct with the except of the fact that it’s a total lie and her heart is so closed :/ oops...

I have a question, since I didn’t follow that stream: weren’t those commentators the same as always? Or were they other new ones?

OK so let's dissect the commentating debacle (I should warn that some of my opinions might not be that popular) since I got many asks about it.

British Eurosport has had three pretty iconic figure skating commentators: Nicky Slater, Simon Reed, and Chris Howarth. Nicky is a former ice dancer, Chris was a single skater and later a coach, and I'm not sure what's Simon experience. All three have been with British Eurosport since sometime in the 80s I think (they were for sure there in the 90s) and are in their sixties. For the most part in the last decade, it has been Simon and Chris doing skating commentary for Eurosport (Nicky hasn't been around for a long time imo) and for about two seasons Mark Hanretty joined the commentating team (2015/16 and 2016/17) and for the past two seasons, they are also added Louise Walden (former ice dancer) to their team as well.

Focusing on this quad, ISU started streaming skating events internationally in the 2019/20 season. At first, it had no commentators and then they added them to major events (GPF, Europeans, 4CC) and then to all competitions. Up until this Worlds the feed only featured one commentator, and so far they used Simon, Chris, Mark, and a 4th commentator whose name I can't recall but was by far the worst of them all (I'll dig it up later).

This time and for the first time the ISU international feed featured two commentators - Simon and Nicky, which to me was a surprise since not only do they usually have only one commentator, Nicky hasn't commentated skating for a really long time which makes it odd to have this be his first skating commentating gig after a while.

And now let's pause for some unpopular opinions. I have a really big soft spot for the three BESP commentators, growing up BESP was the only skating coverage I could get so I basically grew up with their commentary and while it was always flawed it was also very supportive of the skaters, pretty knowledgeable, and extremely enthusiastic and full of love for skating. All three of them did some of my favorite commentary about Tessa and Scott all the way back to when they were just debuting as seniors and all through their careers. The issue is that while they so fit the requirements of the type of commentary you'll have on a sports channel, they are (relatively speaking) not a good fit for the international crowd, and especially the current skating fandom. Some of the reasons are valid, they are not doing enough research, they are not always up to date with the latest developments in the sport, and in a time when every avid skating fan can do pretty comprehensive research online, they often feel dated. At the same time, the current skating fandom holds them to a pretty ridiculous standard imo, I'm going to be blunt here, but I never expected them to refer to Tim LeDuc while using the correct pronounces. Perhaps I have low expectations and I'm definitely generalizing here for the most part, but I also have enough relatives in their 60s to know that they are not in a level of knowledge and understanding to be able to understand the current norms regarding gender and identity. And I think that it's one area where they should be given the benefit of the doubt. At the same time, their comments yesterday about missing the Russian skaters were also interpreted in the wrong way imo, to me it felt like they referred to it in the context of skating and not in the context of the war or supporting Russia in any way.

So now that I played the devil's advocate let's talk about yesterday. Simon and Nicky were commentating on the ISU feed (Chris and Louise are on the BESP feed and doing phenomenal work tbh, their coverage today of Ivan Shmuratko from Ukraine was a class act and brought tears to my eyes). From the start, Nicky was too loose with his tongue and it felt a bit unprofessional. During the two events they covered (Ladies SP, Pairs SP) they made some comments that were a bit much but not all of them were too bad. But it got worse as the day went on and some of the comments they made were completely out of line. Listening to them I knew fs Twitter is probably reading them apart (again some of the criticism was justified and some exaggerated for me), but when the pairs SP event ended the feed stayed on and it picked up Simon referring to someone as "a Canadian bitch" and Nicky laughing, later we realized it was about Meagan Duhamel. That got serious backlash and deservingly so, it got so big that CBC, Phil Hersh, and others reached out to the ISU for comment. It ended up with Simon and Nicky being dropped and Ted Barton being called in to commentate (how they managed that in less than 12 hours I have no idea) and the ISU issuing this statemtn:

ISU are clearly saying they won’t work with Simon or Nicky again (tbh I’m conflicted about it but that’s on me) which pretty much leaves Chris and Mark to cover all ISU events and since Chris is sometimes busy with BESP and Mark has his own things sometimes, ISU might need a new roster of commentators, which tbh there’s a very short list of people currently up for the task. So it will be interesting to see how the ISU solves this issue for next season’s coverage. Generally peaking, Mark Hanretty is definitely the best current skating commentator, but I’m not sure he can carry an entire season of commentator. We’ll have to wait and see I guess.

-At the end of the year when it was time for you to go back to America, he was devastated like seriously he’d miss you and y’alls antics. He practically begged you not to go back. Yeah he held your leg and cried on the floor….Aizawa had to pull him off of you so you could leave

Impromptu date

 It had been a few days since you last heard from Ina and you felt like she was ignoring you after the incident on Monday. 

“Way to go Bea, you just had to open your big stupid mouth and make Ina feel uncomfortable” you chastise yourself while you lay on the couch in the dorm alone since Zoey had a date tonight and made a comment about ‘not expecting her home anytime soon’. You carry on ranting to yourself about how much of an idiot you are until your phone buzzes and your heart begins to race when you see Ina’s name pop up.

Meet me here in an hour 

She sends you a map with a red pin drop and you can’t help but feel a little anxious about what Ina’s planning. You feel your palms sweating a bit as your mind goes into overdrive about what to wear and how you’re going to get your makeup done and be where Ina wants you to be in a matter of 60 minutes. Well 59 now. You send Ina a text asking her what you should wear but you only feel more apprehensive when she texts you back.

You run to your room and begin emptying the contents of your closet looking for something that screams casual. You wish Zoey was here with her fashion expertise right now, but you take a second to breathe, trying to slow down your racing heart. 

“It’s just Ina. She’s literally seen you at your worst when you had no sleep for 3 days straight because of midterms. This is fine . All you have to wear is something simple. And to stop talking to yourself when you’re alone.” You scan your closet and decide to wear ripped blue jeans with a cropped hoodie. You put on some basic makeup, remembering to put on your pink lipgloss which drives Ina crazy and then hail a cab to take you to your destination. 

You pay the taxi driver and as you step out you see that you’re at the front of the park and you see Ina standing with a comically large basket in her hand staring at her watch, chewing on her lip. You decide to sneak up on her, covering her eyes with your hands and lifting your chin up a little to whisper in her ear, “guess who?” 

Ina jumps a little but quickly composes herself again, lulled by the lowness and playfulness of your voice. 

“Bea, I’m glad you’re here. Even if you are” she glances down at her watch, “11 minutes late” 

You nudge her shoulder slightly with yours, “well professor, you didn’t really give me much notice and this is the best I could do last minute” you flash her a bright smile and she can’t help but smile back at you. She looks you up and down, appraising your outfit and you do the same to her. She’s wearing jeans for the first time ever, and a tucked in shirt and this might be the most casual you’ve ever seen Ina dress. “You like what you see?” she fiddles with the frames of her glasses, “I wasn’t sure if jeans would still look good on me” 

You bite your lip, “trust me Ina, you look hot” and she blushes in response to your compliment. 

“And you look as beautiful as ever,” her eyes still trailing against your body until she suddenly holds out her hand to you, “shall we?” You warily stare down at her hand, unfamiliar with such intimacy outside of her office. Ina senses your skepticism in taking her hand, and she wiggles her fingers and hums, “it’s okay Bea, it’s just me” she gives you a small smile, her eyes inviting and you lace your fingers with hers. Once you feel the warmness of her hand sweep into yours, all of your insecurities and doubts wipe away and you feel safe as her hand squeezes yours. You begin to follow Ina as she lightly tugs your hand towards the entrance of the park. 

“So….” you nod your head towards the picnic basket in Ina’s other hand, “are you going to tell me what’s in there” 

Ina shakes her head at your inquisitive tone and lightly swings your arms together as you walk through the park. “Haven’t they ever told you patience is a virtue Miss Hughes?” You roll your eyes at her, sparking a glimmer of humour in her eyes, “You’ll find out soon enough.”

You walk for a while through the grass, as the lampposts brighten up your path, moving away from the crowds of people and moving into the more secluded part of the park and you breathe in the crisp air feeling both content but impatient. Finally Ina slows down her walking as you reach the top of a hill that overlooks the rest of the park and she lets go of your hand and moves it towards the very large basket in her hand, taking out a blanket and a set of pillows and carefully organises them and then settles on the blanket, patting the space next to her, “join me?” 

You let out an airy laugh as you settle on the blanket, your leg brushing slightly against Ina’s, and you revel in the sense of comfort you feel, not only from the super comfy blanket and pillows but also from the ease you feel from Ina being by your side and how right it all feels. 

“Wow, Ina I don’t know what to say, this is beautiful” you nod your head, signalling to the rest of the park in which the crowds look so small from your aerial view and the lights almost look like still fireflies, their twinkle almost as bright as the stars in the night sky. 

Ina lets out a small cough before turning to you and taking your hand in hers, “I only want the best for you, I know after what happened on mon-” You pull your hand away from Ina’s and shield your embarrassed face as you let out a groan. 

“Ina, I am so sorry. I shouldn’t have lashed out like that at you. I-” 

Ina raises her hand, her expression looking solemn and the words die out of your mouth, “No Bea, you were right to be angry. I know this relationship between us” she makes a gesture between you and her, “isn’t the easiest burden to carry. The hiding, the stolen moments, I know I ask too much from you. Sometimes I’m still shocked you’ve chosen me since I don’t have much to offer you in terms of dating. I know stealing moments in my office are sometimes not enough, especially since you’re a young woman at college who’s practically throwing away her experience to be with me.” Ina turns away from you, her eyes full of pain, anguish and regret. You reach out and cup her face with your hands, your thumbs brushing lightly against her cheekbones. She averts her gaze from yours, looking down at the ground until you place two fingers under her chin lifting her head until her eyes bore into yours. 

“Ina.. I don’t care about that stuff. I know what I’m sacrificing to be with you, and yet I still choose you every time. I like being with you, even if you are a little boring sometimes” Ina snorts in retort but her lip quirks up a little so you know that she isn’t upset anymore. 

Ina shakes out of her somber contemplation and the small smile on her face shifts into a huge beam, “Well, I think that’s enough depression talk for tonight. Let me show you what I bought”. She ruffles through the basket until she brings out two containers and you grab one squealing with delight, 

“Oh my god Ina you remembered!” you place a chaste kiss on her cheek and open the container, the smell of kung pao chicken infiltrating your nostrils, almost making you drool. 

“Of course I did, it’s your favorite” Ina hands you a pair of chopsticks and you begin to chow down on the food as Ina pulls out a bottle of champagne and pours 2 glasses and places one of them in front of you. “I’m sorry if it’s a little bit cold, it was the last thing I bought but it might’ve gotten cold in the basket.” 

You shake your head, mouth full of food, “Eena iets perwfec,” Ina laughs at you as you quickly finish the food in your mouth, “sorry” 

“Don’t apologize, I admire all of your little quirks no matter how weird some of them may be” her tone dripping with playfulness. 

You gasp, “I have the best idea ever” you pick up a piece of noodle and place one end in your mouth, “we should totally do the lady and the tramp slurp thing” 

“I’m pretty sure that’s only for spaghetti” 

“Come onnnn, it’ll work trust me,” Ina quirks an eyebrow in amusement but obliges with your request putting the other end of the noodle in her mouth. “Okay now go.” You both try sucking hard on the piece of noodle but to no avail it doesn’t move. 

“I told you it won’t work” 

“Yeah, yeah, but would’ve been totally cute if it did though” 

“Maybe this will work instead” Ina fumbles through the basket and brings out a container, “maybe this will bring the romantic ambience you are so desperately craving”. She lifts up the box and you see chocolate covered strawberries and you wrap your arms around Ina giving her the biggest squeeze. 

“Oh my god, this is the best night ever. Here give it to me” she hands you over the box and you open it and take out one of the strawberries. “Let me feed you one”. Ina opens her mouth and you delicately put the strawberry inside her mouth and after she takes a bite you put the other half of the strawberry in your mouth and finish it off before licking your fingers clean. Ina watches you as you wipe away the strawberry juice with your tongue and she shifts slightly in her seat, clearly turned on by what she’s seeing. 

You both feed each other the strawberries and drink the champagne and when the food is finished, Ina packs the rubbish into a plastic bag she brought with her and puts it back in the basket. The wind picks up, making you shiver slightly, but going home is the last thing you want. You lay down on the blanket, placing your head on Ina’s lap and you close your eyes while she lazily plays with your hair. 

“I want to stay like this forever” you hear Ina chuckle before leaning down and placing a sweet kiss on your lips, which tastes of champagne and strawberries and you lean up a little more to prolong the kiss, the tongue invitingly delving into your mouth, and you moan as she bites your bottom lip before sucking on it and then pulling away. 

“I wish we could too, but at least we have tonight.” You lay there, content as the sky darkens more, the stars shining brightly across the sky and you suddenly hear Ina beginning to recite a poem. 

“A moment of happiness, you and I sitting on the verandah, apparently two, but one in soul, you and I.” You hum quietly, feeling lulled by Ina’s low voice as she carries on recounting the poem, “We feel the flowing water of life here, you and I, with the garden's beauty and the birds singing. Haha tbh, as far as ugly costumes go, nothing really beats Shazaam, so I think my expectations were pretty low to start.

The thing I appreciated about Star Girl was that they addressed head on how dated everything was, from the names to the costumes and how, now, it all felt corny, because that's true. So much of this content started in the 50s/60s and what was cool then, and what's cool now do NOT align lol. Like Yolanda makes fun of her own costume, and Star Girl modifies hers, so I think that's well handled and allowed me to suspend my disbelief around that.

I was initially diversity & inclusioned out bc the idea that there would be SO many people of colour in a small town in NEBRASKA is so deeply stupid it's insulting. What we deserve is meaningful stories ABOUT Black/poc that centre our stories and experiences, not random Black people walking around in a place they wouldn't normally be in anyway, that's just insipid.

ANYWAY, after watching Loki and Wandavision, I was pleasantly surprised with Star Girl. I was talking to my writing mentor and she had mentioned that so many shows lately feel like season 1 is the pilot now as opposed to the first episode and I FELT that, esp with Loki (so, much TALKING) so I found Star Girl refreshing in the sense that it starts with this massive battle with btwn the JLA and ISA, and after watching the Flash shitty animation, it was so nice to see almost movie level CGI, which really got me engaged in the story, and I was like sick, I wanna see where this goes, despite being confused as to why Luke Wilson was the choice? Lol.

As a show, I think it really found its footing on the second half of the season. I appreciated their dedication to building the team and defining the characters and providing us with a solid backstory to prop up the character choices in present day, but I found myself frustrated with the individual characters. None of them, besides maybe Yolanda had the charisma to nail their roles without veering into annoying for me. Especially Courtney. And tbf Pat and Courtney's mother were wildly inattentive. But he'd say this:

And especially after he explained to her that people DIED protecting this secret, she watched one of her classmates be murdered and she's like, lol well fuck you Pat I'm gonna do this on my own anyway. Was obnoxious. I think show writers really struggle to strike the right balance of precocious and so it ends up falling into obnoxious, but it's not just on the show writers, the actor also has to have the charisma to nail precocious and this one did not. Reading that Courtney was based off the creator's younger deceased sister and his description of her provided more context for Courtney's character, I just think it needed some refining so she was less grating and almost bratty. Luke Wilson isn't great either, but that's why I really appreciated the second half of the season more, because now Pat and Courtney are working together and the group was assembled so it was less grating to watch and also lent itself to these nice moments of character growth:

And in a TV landscape where fathers, bio/step etc are so often depicted as paternalistic, out of touch and uncomfortable navigating having a daughter at all as if the cis female gender is some foreign species, it was refreshing to see that Pat, from the very beginning, just wanted to get to know Courtney as a person and cared about her, and seeing her finally valuing him as the father she had/always wanted instead of a grande fabrication in her mind of a superhero Dad in Starman, and then the disappointment of her actual father, she sees she had one in Pat the entire time. I'm really close with my Dad, so this was also a nice change to see on screen.

I grew up on Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman the Animated Series etc and enjoyed Young Justice, so seeing Sports Master and Tigress and a young Artemis was cool. The struggle of Brainwave and his son, seeing it as a generational progress/growth and struggle was semi interesting, and I was SO refreshed to see that this is as far as we go into the gen Z virtue signalling stuff.

It was earnest enough without sending me headfirst into a diatribe or senseless quip about fuck the patriarchy or whatever lol. It was just about Courtney trying to do the right thing while everyone watched.

My last issue was the Popular Girl. I've noticed a lot of Gen Z shows can't figure out what they're doing with them. If she's a mean girl, she still has friends. Cordelia had friends, Regina George has friends, they can't be the Popular Mean Girl without a clique. If you want to isolate her from that clique, bc of the character growth happening to the others, or whatever the reason, that's fine, but lately I've been seeing exactly what Stargirl did, this Rich Popular Untouchable mean girl with like, 1 friend and dating the star quarterback and is captain of the cheerleading team, no that's not how this works. If this is the character archetype then she has to be the centre of the Popular Crowd at school, otherwise she's just a nasty bitch with no friends and those people have no leverage enough in high school to intimidate a new kid with social outcasting.

I also don't really understand this fandom obsession with Beth and that annoying white guy who only have like 2 scenes together 1 of which is hostile, but overall, Stargirl is rough but doing a lot of things right and I'm curious about s2.

Unrelated completely, regarding listening reading method:

I am genuinely so excited to test the listening reading method out wholeheartedly. When I looked up the method, few people were trying it with Chinese, and of the people I saw a lot were beginners with less vocabulary than I have which I think both made the task harder for them and made their progress look different than I imagine mine will.

For example, in my first attempts using listening reading method, I noticed I picked up a TON of words I could already read, and a TON of phrases I could already read but didn’t properly “chunk” until I heard them aloud. Whereas the beginners tended to document picking up entirely new words, and not understanding much of any paragraph for the first several chapters. Whereas again, because I had more vocabulary, my first chapters I listening reading method did I heard a TON of individual words/followed the main gist, and it took several chapters for me to start finally understanding full phrase chunks and sentence chunks together. I 100% think the listening reading method can work with mandarin, I just think since few people have tried it and shared the experience, I’m going to find out how much it can improve someone’s mandarin myself...

I saw people who did listening reading method with german, and Dutch, who like the creator of the method ended up going from 0 to B1-B2 listening and sometimes-reading* skill in 3-5 months (reading skill tended to depend on how much they focused on the actual text during target language audio/target language text portion). The people with the most success usually already had a foundation of several hundred or a couple thousand common words, and had seen some grammar summarized beforehand (both of which I have already done with mandarin). I’m extremely curious how far the listening reading method can take my reading skills specifically - since the method mainly improves listening, and reading is simply affected a bit as a consequence of picking up new words/reading target language text along with the audio during one of the steps. With Chinese I suspect I’ll have to do more Hanzi learning, and reading-only work like intensive reading, to supplement my reading skills. However I already do a lot of intensive reading, so maybe that will keep the skills relatively even.

I do know that only couple dozen hours of listening reading method already boosted my listening skills a TON. So listening reading method definitely improves listening skills, as it is intended to. The actual method suggests learners listen read through an entire novel in a week or two, then do another novel etc, at least 3 novels though potentially more - and redoing some novels again from the start if desired. For my kind of novels - like Guardian by Priest, that means 106+ chapters, 800+ pages, 30 minutes audio a chapter (53 hours for the English text-chinese audio portion, another 53 hours for the Chinese text-chinese audio portion, and lets say half as many hours to read it in English 26.5 hours). So that is 132.5+ hours to listen read to Guardian. The listening reading method assumes you do a few books, so let’s say around 3 books, 396 hours (roughly 400 hours). Well... no wonder people saw such improvements! 400 hours of listening to comprehensible input in a European language will get an English speaker quite far into learning. Most European languages according to FSI take around 600-750 hours for an English native speaker to learn. Listening reading method would fill a huge chunk of those hours, and if you focus on the reading portion too, then that should definitely at least be a solid foundation into B1 I can imagine.

Listening reading methods creator also tends to do these in 6-12 hour reading bursts per day - which I absolutely never do because I’m lazy and unable to focus on things for too long usually without switching things up. But like I’ve mentioned, even me just doing maybe 12 hours of listening reading method so far, in small 30 minute to 2 hour chunks, has been enough to make noticeable improvement in my listening comprehension. If someone is already intermediate and just wants to improve their listening skill, I think they’d see fast results like I have regarding their listening skill dragging up closer to their reading skill level.

When I read the listening reading method creators website, they sounded like 10 hours was about how long it took (for beginners in a language) to start parsing individual words and recognizing them, 30 hours to start hearing word chunks and phrases they could understand, and 60-100 hours to start comprehending a majority of the words.

I am therefore very curious what my rate of improvement will be. I do feel chinese study using the listening reading method at least for listening skills will see similar levels of improvement. I’m wondering if my listening skills will improve a bit faster, since I’m already past the “progress at 30 hours” mark expectations wise - I can hear many individual words, can hear many sentence chunks/phrases, and just struggle to follow some full sentences and catch brand new words until I’ve heard them several times. I do very much want to completely go through Guardian with this method - for many reasons lol. 1. Because I’ve been wanting to read it in english and I’ll have a chance to use that for study which is cool, 2. Because I’ve been wanting to read it in chinese and this makes it doable/more comprehensible for my current skill level (aka following along to the audiobook I will read at a less slow pace/comprehend more since the English will be fresh in my mind, compared to if I just read it extensively on its own), 3. Avenuex made a beautiful audiobook I adore and I’ll have an excuse to listen to it while actually comprehending everything since I’ll have the English and Chinese novel to look at while o read! So... once I’m through Guardian, I’ll be able to answer for myself what over 100 hours of progress doing the listening reading method produce, how well it works when using a book with a more complicated/high vocab style - which is sort of priest, reading challenge wise, and the kind of novel the listening reading method creator recommends using. Also, I’ll have read Guardian! ovo)/ and I will have read a full priest novel, so I’ll have picked up words by my favorite author that will hopefully make other priest novels easier to read (the same reason Tian Ya Ke may be helpful).

Another thing people who have tried the listening reading method suggest doing first (particularly if studying a language much different than your native language, but for any language tbh). The creator of the method suggested: knowing a few hundred to a few thousand common words, and having looked at a grammar guide or overview prior. That’s something anyone who’s already a bit of a beginner, to low intermediate, probably has done or is doing. In addition, some people who have done this method suggested using something like sentence audio flashcards (in English and target language audio) and listening to them a few times, repeating them, until one felt comfortable with them. Generally common word/grammar ones, and you could do “listening reading” with those sentences too (reading them while listening to the audio). This would serve as a primer to learn the basics comfortably before going into listening reading novels. They suggested doing yjis would make the method work better - they got to B2 in Dutch in a handful of months of intensive listening reading by doing this beforehand and they think it helped a lot. While I think it’s not necessary, I do think of listening reading is hard, then getting a basis beforehand as a beginner and/or covering a easier basics common language material first will help. I use the Chinese SpoonFed Audio files which basically amounts to the same thing but no reading (if I used the flashcards still, it would include reading). So I do have some sentences/phrases/words I have a good listening foundation for already. Also, as mentioned, I do read, so for many common words and Hanzi I already can read them. I do think this advice is very good for beginners though, if they want to see noticable results sooner (versus 30-50 hours into listening reading before they start learning significant amounts - basically it just means they’d do 30-50 hours prestudy instead of basic common words/grammar, to make the listening reading initially less difficult). A total beginner could dive right into listening reading (just like my chaotic self first started to try to read Chinese knowing 500 words and brute forcing mdzs and guardian a few paragraphs at a time), it just means it’ll feel more difficult at first for a while, and they’ll be mostly learning basics for a while first before they build enough of a basis to comprehend more. Which is fine. It all just comes down to how much incompréhensibilty can you personally tolerate without giving up. The creator of the method? Can tolerate a TON. Me? I can tolerate a brutally large amount, surprisingly, but usually I need to comprehend had least the main idea and that’s a minimum of like 40-60% depending on which parts I’m comprehending. Most people will feel it’s unbearable until they can comprehend at least 80-90% (and I certainly PREFER material I comprehend that much of). And most people ideally are comfortable once they understand 95-98% (think reading a book in your native language with some unknown words you can figure out easily from context, or graded readers made to feel this easy with around this many unknown words for you to figure out in context, or maybe manhua/manga/comics once you’re a pretty decent intemediate level in a language etc).

I'd say I'm somewhat independent but would love to have someone by my side to happily live with, I find trust as something that is very important and due to past reasons it can be difficult to earn my full trust. I try to always be a reasonable and mature person, but I can get irritated at a few things (like LGBTQ+ discrimination, racism or plain asshole stupidity) that can tick off a temper, but usually I'm a person of patience, though if I do get really angry then I'm gonna also end up having a mental breakdown later -. I'm a rather fidgety person, fingers always have to be doing something, I can also have rather terrible memory sometimes with things and can forget.

I have low self confidence and self worth, usually struggle to be optimistic and can be rather emotional, also often an absolute empath when it comes to fictional characters for example.

I can be a workaholic and can be terrible at taking care of myself, I easily lose track of time and can forget to eat at times, also have a fuzzy appetite so sometimes I might not want to eat anything at all. I care alot about other people's well being though, for me appearance doesn't matter, I care for the personality and think everyone is beautiful in their own way. I am a short chubby brunette with a boy haircut and brown eyes, my hair is often thick and poofy and sometimes hell to take care of, due to some health reasons I have an itchy scalp and have to often scratch my head. My fashion depends on just if the clothes are comfortable to wear in the moment, that's it. I wear glasses due to a bit of a negative in my sight.

I sometimes struggle to have a balanced sleep schedule and am often stressed.

I hold a strong love for animals and the nature around us. I especially love cats and reptiles and own a cat and a leopard gecko who I would die for.

Fiction is an important part of my life, the moment I get interested in in some show or franchise you can expect me to become an absolute nerd for it, (good example is Pokemon.) I am the type to analyze characters and really care about everything. Books, shows, movies, theatre, anything goes. I really also love music, 60% of the time you can find me listening to music somewhere, maybe even singing, I multitask alot too. My music taste depends on what connections I make to fictional media, especially that of my own, aka stories and characters I've created. My mind is always going like a 1000km/h with all types of thoughts, my own fictional universe only keeps expanding which I wish to share with the world. My dream is to become a writer one day, which I'm very passionate about, and another thing I really want to do one day is travel the world. I also do some art and animation, but intend to keep it as a hobby on the side.

I'm an ambivert, shy and hesitant around new people especially those of higher authority and importance, but incredibly outgoing with the people I'm familiar and comfortable with, never getting tired from them. Affection starved, expect lots of hugs, not that much into PDA tho. For me first impression matter, on my part, I am quick to think that people hate me or are annoyed with me.

Even with my fuzzy appetite I do like food, especially of strong flavour, I tend to seem to like asian or Italian food alot. I'd say I'm decent and cooking but not very good at baking.

Minimalistic, not very demanding when it comes to anything, it's basically like "Better than nothing." would be the type to live in a rather small house one day. Somewhat organized in my own way, sometimes I can act a little OCD though when something is out of place in a manner that it's just - no.

I can be rather talkative, when getting in a conversation with me expect to talk for hours about all types of things, wherever the conversation goes. Even better when it's over a cup of tea or a long walk somewhere outside.

I usually try to be as polite and kind as possible, though I sometimes struggle, I always try to have hope for the world, despite my incredibly pessimistic mindset.

For a partner, I look for someone I can geniuenly be happy and comfortable with, someone I can be open with and not worry about being lied to. I would be incredibly loyal to them and I'd hope them to be as well, of course, I don't get jealous or worked up if they're hanging out with friends. I want them to also be happy, someone I feel like I could spend the rest of my life with. Someone who'd be okay with traveling and seeing the world with, someone I can just have a moment to relax with, sometimes just talk and listen to eachother. Like stated before the appearance for me doesn't matter, it's the personality- what's inside that does. I shall note, the harmless teasing can get to me. Okay first things first I think we need to change your level of confidence my friend. Which means starting off this relationship as friendship - honestly he is on the same page as you regarding this for similar reasons so you two can relate to the other. But once you gain a healthy amount of sense of self-worth + confidence I think this friendship could develop into a very loving and healthy relationship! 

Just because he is a demon I don’t think he would use you, lie to you, manipulate you or anything similar to that. I mean you have similar interests and in canon Levi shows just the bare minimum of interest to someone whose lifestyle + likes aren’t similar to his. Also you’re his only friend besides Henry so why would he treat you bad I mean come on!!! he’s not stupid!! 

Since your relationship is based on being friends trust will come in time, do not worry! Levi is also picky when it comes to ppl so again as you are in the same boat you understand the other deeply. 

I mean Levi can be serious when the situation calls for it but in general you being with him would give you a nice balance with your maturity. He’s not childish but he has different approaches! Meaning he could learn from you but you could also learn from him!

I just finished Doctor Who series 12.

(Not entirely spoiler free, maybe don't read if you haven't seen it yet)

I had heard so many complaints about it being awful (including a guy I know who specifically warned me - but meh, he's a condescending idiot who thinks his opinion is The Best and Only True, so I kinda figured he was wrong about DW, that's a kind if people I learn to not listen too much 😂), I heard so many bad critics, i didn't believe them but it kinda makes one keep their expectations low, but... like... it was actually really great?

I loved it, it was different, and sure Chibnail changed the Gallifrey lore and Doctor's origin, but he 1) gave a new vision of the character, 2) set ground for so many new stories, 3) is getting rid of the "only 12 regenerations" boundary (ensuring the show can basically go on forever, no less). The story of the Doctor is a wonderful story but you can't keep telling this story the same way for 50-60 years, without adding new things to it, I don't get why people are mad about that. I'm not mad, I feel like it gave the story a new start and that is GREAT. This means... SO much more stories and intricate development to come.

I guess the ones who spread the complaints are the same who don't like the last Star Wars trilogy, Birds of Prey, or Captain Marvel, and some other whiney fanboys make petitions about to get rid of - such whiny babies tbh. Damn there has been worst writing than that that no one dares to consider less than classics yet THOSE ones are beyond forgiveness ? C'mon. That's ridiculous.

What I am actually a bit upset about (but not really) is that Chibnail never explains how the Master survived and how the progress he made as Missy in series 10 in becoming a bit more good turned into that boiling rage he has in series 12, but I'm not mad, I can actually fill the blanks myself.

Reminds me when in the Sherlock fandom we all went crazy trying to figure our how he faked his death and the showrunner made fun of it, explaining in the process that in writing, some things don't need explaining, HOW he did it wasn't as important as WHY he did it. And I think that's a remarkable lesson in how we consider some things as plot holes the writers are ought to fill.

I'm sorry but beyond that, the fact Chibnail re-wrote the Doctor's origins, that it's a different writing style... I fail to see where people see this is bad ? Were is it awful? 🤣 People just complain because he's not telling the same story, the same way, with the same ropes, than before.

And because the Doctor is a woman. It's not necessarily prompting all the critics, I'm not saying that, but can we stop 2 secs wondering if people (so many people and not just a couple of unsatisfied) would have been that severe with the last two series if the Doctor had been David Tennant or Matt Smith - I think not, because I know for a fact they've had bad episodes no one has so virulently spoken about, because we usually don't care that much and just enjoy the thing we claim to love. And two more seconds to think about what the movies I cited before, and lot of recent movies/shows that are criticized for no good reason, have in common. I'm not saying this is the main reason every person has to critic those things but again, let's wonder if the critics would have been the same for similar movies without a female lead. I don't want to take shortcuts but it's definitely the number one critic for a lot of people, that's enough to make it a problem, so it has to be taken into account and talked about. And it is true there has been a lot of people complaining about the Doctor being a woman - not everyone have a problem with that, not everyone will admit to have a problem with that, but it IS part of the equation. The guy I was talking about, for instance, he says the last season is bad writing, that it's boring, but that's not the only thing he thinks is bas writing and boring, the only things he admits to me not to like are movies and shows that display strong female leads, a whole black cast (I'm thinking about Black Lightning, that I have recently watched and he said he thinks it's boring, while it's actually objectively very good despite some flaws), or a LGBT+ characters (he once told me something along the line of "there is a gay character in everything now and it serves nothing to the plot" ), he doesn't dislike all the shows displaying those minorities but there is a pattern to his critics and the most funny thing is that he doesn't know that, he's not one bit judgmental, sexist or homophobic, he's just really blunt to how stereotypes affect his judgment, and as I said earlier he's a condescending know-it-all so he never really bothers questioning his judgement. (He's a gen X, and I don't like stereotyping generations but.... ehhhhh 😬 people from his generation I have encountered usually are like that too so... Sorry but 👀💅🕺)

I mean. When you see the whole picture, one begins to wonder if behind those "it's not the fact that she's a woman that bothers me", a little bit of sexism isn't hiding. Many people won't even recognize this is influencing their jugement and they may not be misogynistic nor sexists at all in their lives, but there is a probability that a misogynistic society has influenced their opinion on movies and series because of how women (or black people, LGBT+ people, etc) have been stereotyped for centuries.

People may not acknowledge or even realize it has an influence, but it has, it definitely has, that is part of institutional sexism - it's not only about plain discrimination it can be really insidious like the way we perceive a show or a movie because of stereotypes we absorbed unknowingly. I am damn sure DW s11 and s12 and many other shows and movies (like the ones I cited in this post) suffer from that.

But, this point aside, the main critic is (the critic everyone who critic the last two series will admit): it's not the same as it was. That's it. That's the whole critic. AAArgh. 😫 I can't say I'm surprised, because I'm also in the Star Wars and Marvel fandoms were there is so many hatred from so called fans, but... that's never not disappointing.

Anyway, it was actually very well written and Jodie Whittaker is doing an amazing job, she is fun and silly while also grave, and adds a depth to the character that I think is really great. So were the other actors (Sacha Dhawan as The Master gave me shivers tbh), they were all so good. It's more classic than the Moffat era because he couldn't help but giving people very complex narrative arcs, but Chibnail's simplicity is working, he gets to the point, still leaves us with something to chew on. There was fun, emotion, shock, and I really enjoyed the horror movie vibes from some episodes, it is a bit less goofy than previous eras but more intense I think. It was anything but boring.

Really liked it, and I can't wait for next season.
