Trivia I’ve learned about Shadow while listening to the 2022 Sonic Twitter Takeover (the only one I've listened to so far):

His favorite Chaos Emerald is the purple one because it reminds him of lavender

The beauty of a tiny rock in the shape of a horse was enough to bring a tear to his eye

His favorite dessert is tiramisu on a cold night with a warm coffee (he says there's no better combination)

Uses gender neutral language when referring to a potential romantic partner (insert pennysnapcube sonic voice "whoa, he's bisexual, I didn't know that!")

However, he has a strict set of rules for any potential partner (A) they must help him iron his linens nightly, (B) they have to cook food exactly like they did on the ARK (which according to Eggman means he likes his food dried and stale; turns out he wasn't kidding), and (C) they keep in mind that he has a 20-step skin-care routine

Okay so turns out he's a big fan of lavender in general as he said in the 2021 takeover that he smells like it and he offers to meet a potential suitor with a bouquet of them (lavender's his thing now)

This is probably dumb to ask, but what’re your thoughts on JJ Conway confirming that an official Rise of TMNT revival is unlikely?

I have not seen any mention of this in JJ Conway’s feed so I would need to be directed to what confirmation you’re referring to exactly.

Regardless, even if that is the case, it honestly would not have as much of an impact on me as it might have on some fans. Sure I would be sad that the show was not continuing, but honestly it was not the show that got me so deep into this fandom in the first place. Yes it was a really fun series with some amazing animation, a great cast, and fun concepts, but if that was all it took then there would be a lot of other great shows I would also be waist deep in.

Ironically the things that brought my love for this fandom to an all time high was actually the fandom itself, the passion of its original creators, and the raw potential that comes with being a story cut far too soon. I know all of those may sound odd but hear me out. There’s a strange allure that comes with the unknown and I think the movie did a wonderful job in setting the fandom on that course by leaving us with so many questions. When a story is left hanging with that sort of potential it feeds into a creator’s need to tap into those untouched elements and find ways of fulfilling the things they never got.

For example, if we saw Donatello in the post apocalyptic future and knew exactly what he looked like and what type of person he had become do you think there would be so many crazy and amazing interpretations of him within the fan base? Probably not. The more information we’re given the more answers there are to close the doors to that sort of creativity.

As sad as I am that we may not get more, at the same time this lack of content has led to a fun kind of mystery that I think a lot of people have latched onto. What’s more there are just so many amazing and creative people within this fandom I have met who continue to inspire me in this wonderful loop of creative feedback. That's something I haven't found in a long time. Rise did a wonderful job of being unique and by being unique it drew the interest of equally unique and inspiring fans that I have a ton of respect for. In doing so this fandom has sort of taken on a life of its own but in a way that feels supportive and full of curiosity since we have so much to work with but so few of the creative boundaries that come with having a “proper ending.”

I dunno, maybe I’m just overthinking the whole thing, but it's something I've been mulling over since very few pieces of media have grabbed my attention in such a way.

TLDR: even if we never get more episodes, that's not why I'm a part of this fandom and if anything it only inspires me to continue to create more content since there is an obvious demand for it. My only hope is that people will continue to enjoy the content I and other creatives put out, with or without the promise of further episodes.

Day 1: when did you discover ofmd?

probably same as most ppl on here, ofmd was suddenly all over my dashboard at some point around mid to late march 2022. one post i saw was a link to a google drive with the episodes and i ended up watching the entire series like, the next day.

Day 2: first impression of ofmd

ok tbh my first impression based on the very first gifsets i was seeing was "this show looks kinda stupid idk if i can take these costumes seriously." then during the first few minutes of s1 i was like "oh yeah this is definitely a taika project, this feels so much like wwdits." both of these impressions no longer hold true lol the costumes are SO fun and past the bit in the pilot of stede narrating to lucius the wwdits vibes are no longer present.

Day 4: reasons why you like ofmd

i tend to enjoy lighthearted comedy tv and also shows with shorter episodes. this is why most of the media i've consumed for years is just cartoons hjfkhkghfskj BUT outside of those basic preferences the HEART the characters the writing the comedy the romance the soundtrack the set design the props the storylines the cast the crew. there's almost no part of this show that im not in love with.

continue being a little mean to toh fans please it is really irritating how some act like its got the best writing of any modern cartoon

Daawwwww I don't have it in me. TOH fans love it for a reason, and there are legitimately good moments! It's just not the most complex or well-written show out there—which it doesn't need to be—but I also totally get your exhaustion. It gets tiring seeing people praise it so highly over and over again when it's just like...fine. It didn't do nothing but it also didn't do something, you know? It's main couple is cute and queer, but that's pretty much all there is to them. It has a fun cast of characters, but they all tend to fall into archetypes. Luz is a sweet main character, but she doesn't have any real flaws and kinda takes a back seat to Hunter and Eda (the white people lol). Her foil with Philip was interesting...but then they kinda backed off and went the "you and Belos are nothing alike" direction.

And It's not that an unsympathetic villian is bad, or that Belos would even be sympathetic with added backstory, it's just that...there were a lot of interesting things to explore with his character that were left hanging.

Like, while he's definitely not at all a good person, it's intriguing that he would bother to recreate his brother over and over again knowing that each time the grimwalker was going to betray him. It's intriguing that he was even willing to kill his brother to begin with (though Caleb was super underutilized in general). Like, you can give a villain depth without justifying or victimizing them (hi Finnegran from tdp, I'll also add Spider Queen & LBD here). So it just feels like a missed opportunity all across the board. It's still surprising to me that we got a confirmation on the Wittebane backstory through an unrelated background character, rather than Philip himself (who had literally possessed a main character, and mindscapes had already been well-established....the pieces were all there me thinks).

And obviously it's like, people can love something despite it's flaws, and they can cherish it for the good it has, but they still don't need to praise it as an ultimate form of media, you know? We don't need to pretend toh was this dark and complex story—it was just a story a lot of people liked and resonated with. Which I'm glad it's there for those people, and I'm glad there are options when it comes to queer pieces of media!

That said the show with the best writing of any modern cartoon is The Dragon Prince (streaming on Netflix).

the hookhausen story primer

Hey wrestling, I heard you like primers...

Are you a fan of delicious flavor, slow burn, and enemies to lovers, but you are overwhelmed by a list of links and kind of just want things explained to you in one spot so you can understand a story?? I gotchu, boo, let's talk about Hookhausen, since the fandom be WAKING UP AGAIN as we approach the eve of potential new content. I've put links to videos and such in here if you would like them but you don't have to click on them if you don't want and you will still get the whole story. Please consider this your one-stop shop! It's such a fun story and I hope more people can find it as compelling and wonderful as we do!! Additionally, for anyone new to wrestling, I've included explanations for lingo and such, so it is easier to read. (This is also for my mutuals who keep seeing me post shit and are like ‘please what is this why are these people half-naked and why are you so feral please explain this’ OKAY I AM TRYING.)

To start with, let’s meet our cast of characters! First, we have Danhausen.

Danhausen is originally an indie wrestler who went through a few gimmicks before settling on the one he’s got now, which is a slightly goofy, awkward demon who may or may not be from another world and curses people when they do something he doesn’t like and/or to win matches. He likes money. He doesn’t like people swearing. Sometimes he goes evil and pours teeth in people’s mouths. He may or may not also be one of the most powerful wrestlers on AEW’s roster in terms of cult following, merchandise sales, and using his social media almost entirely in kayfabe (in-character). This is important; a lot of his character development happens on SM.

Next, we have Hook.

Hook is a legacy, nepotism baby whose father, Taz, is a famous wrestler from the 90s/00s. Taz remains on AEW’s roster as a commentator who also, for awhile, had his own stable (team) called Team Taz. Hook started helping out with Team Taz during the pandemic, and after becoming sort of a staple behind the scenes, debuted in late 2021 on his own. He is a murder kitten who usually refuses to talk, be nice, or generally just do what people want him to. He can normally be found eating chips, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, and sulking. His signature move is his father’s old submission technique that he’s renamed Redrum. Currently, Hook has never lost a match. He is very, very, very pretty. It probably should be illegal.

You might think all of this Hookhausen stuff starts when the story begins in AEW canon (split between their shows: Dynamite and Rampage), but actually, it starts well before this point. I KNOW, it’s insanity. So in late 2021, Hook debuts in AEW after hanging around for a year or so with his dad. This is a big deal for him! And at the same time, Danhausen was benched with a massively broken leg from a match in October. Danhausen tweets several times about how cool Hook is. It’s enough to be noticeable, mostly because at this point, Danhausen is not signed with AEW. He continues to do this through January. In fact, he doesn’t officially appear in AEW until January 26, 2022, when he shows up on the show and they announce his signing on social media. The very next day, Danhausen uploads a photo of him and Hook together to his Instagram, captioned, “Send Hookhausen.”

But nothing much happens with this strange hint until February 24, when Danhausen finds Hook backstage and gives him chips, filming it for his vloghausen. But things go sour, for some reason, when, on March 25, 2022, Danhausen attempts to curse Hook on Rampage. Hook had just thrown a dude through the certificate of accomplishment that his former mentor, QT Marshall, attempted to give him. Nobody likes QT, so we don’t really care. However, Danhausen cared for some reason, and came out to curse Hook. It failed! Hook walked away without anything happening, and Danhausen expressed dismay and alarm that it hadn’t worked. Danhausen then began tweeting about how Hook had become “too powerful.”

Danhausen spends a few weeks trying to curse Hook on television. He tries during an interview, after popping out of a trash can, and then, after a tense altercation between Hook and another wrestler, Tony Nese (with Mark Sterling, his lawyer), in a gym. His last attempt is during one of Hook’s actual matches, when Danhausen emerges ringside and tries one last time to curse Hook. Naturally, it continues to fail. During this match, Tony Nese and Mark Sterling are also ringside, taking notes and talking together about Hook. Danhausen is so frustrated by his lack of success that he goes into the ring after Hook wins and challenges him directly. If Hook won’t be cursed, well then dagnabbit, he will fight Danhausen.

Hook sort of ignores this, because he’s Hook, and he doesn’t really care. This means Danhausen has to resort to the most EXTREME of measures: taking a bag of Hook’s potato chips and DESTROYING THEM ALL BACKSTAGE. Finally, a reaction! Hook slams Danhausen into the wall and says, “You wanted my attention? You got it now.” The feud officially begins.

Danhausen calls Hook out the next week to settle things. It’s not an official match, but it’s definitely going to be a fight when Hook comes out with his hands taped and his murder face on. The two are about to get into things when Mark Sterling comes out and asks the crowd if they really want to see the two of them fight. Of course, the crowd says yes. Danhausen and Hook are beloved crowd favorites. But then, Tony Nese attacks them both, because he’s angry that Hook keeps getting so much attention just for being a legacy brat. Hook drives them both off with some well-timed suplexes, and the crowd picks up the chant of “Hookhausen.” Danhausen decides this incident has united them, and offers his hand for a handshake. Hook just grabs him, yells in his face, and stalks out of the ring.

But after that, Tony Nese challenges Danhausen to a match, which is weird anyway, since Hook was the one who beat him when he launched his little ambush on them. Hook has another match, and at the end, Danhausen comes out to ask him to “be in Danhausen’s corner” during the match with Tony Nese. This match takes place on Hook’s birthday, May 4. Hook is still not budging an inch on this partnership thing, and shoves Danhausen after Danhausen touches him. But then Danhausen pulls out a little bag of potato chips with a bow on top and drops it into the ring before slinking out, leaving Hook to stare down at the birthday present. His face goes through some actual emotions. The crowd goes wild when he reaches down to pick up the bag…and then boos after he drops it again. Hook leaves it in the ring, offering nothing.

Danhausen’s match with Tony Nese happens on May 11, 2022. It’s his AEW debut! He loses in a shocking 32-seconds after Tony smacks him with his knee and knocks him loopy. Afterwards, Nese remains in the ring to celebrate and Mark Sterling taunts the crowd about how great Nese is. Nese attacks Danhausen again, after the bell has rung. He’s actually about to do it a third time when Hook’s music starts. He comes out with murder face on, gets in the ring, and drives Nese and Sterling back up to the tunnels. Danhausen, after struggling to his feet, offers his hand again. This time, Hook shakes it. Partnership time!

After this handshake happens, Hookhausen has a bit on the after-show (which is only for people watching in the audience). Hook comes out to fight CM Punk, who ends up skipping out of the ring and starting back up the ramp to avoid him. Danhausen emerges and drives Punk back into the ring, where he gets down on his knees to plead with Hook not to murder him. Hook shakes his hand…and then chokes him out. Danhausen is happy. Hookhausen leaves Punk in the ring and exit together. (After-shows aren’t “canon,” but it’s sure as hell fun to watch.)

Hookhausen challenges Nese and Sterling to a tag match, which gets scheduled as the buy-in for AEW’s big PPV show in Las Vegas. They even get a training montage video leading up to the show, and a ride with RJ City on “The Road to Double or Nothing.” The tag match sees them victorious, after Danhausen gets a little thrown around and Hook suplexes them into oblivion. Hook tags Danhausen back in for the pin, because love is real. Then they hold their hands up as winners. This is important, because Hook never lets the ref hold his hand up after matches, and it’s the first time anyone ever has.

Afterwards, Hookhausen give an interview where Danhausen says they will eat chips to celebrate after taking their winnings, and Hook looks at Danhausen like he hung the moon, offering one of his only canon smiles.

They also buy “PT Cruisers” for an interview spot and drive them around the parking lot. They appear to be the best of friends now! Doing silly shit together! But then…

Hook gets challenged in June. He’s offering another not-interview when Danhausen shows up and talks about how they will “eviscerate” enemies together. Hook puts his hand out on Danhausen’s chest and says, “I got this,” and walks off. This, unfortunately, is the last official canon on-screen appearance they will have together in 2022. It’s very strange. And quite heart-breaking. AEW continues to milk the Hookhausen train, though, by throwing a graphic of them together in a canoe on the “Quake in the Lake” promotional poster. The graphic designer had a great day with that one.

After they separate, Danhausen challenges Hook's fellow Team Taz member Ricky Starks for the FTW Champion Belt he holds. He loses, but right after he does, Ricky opens up a general challenge for anyone who wants it. Hook comes out, much to Ricky’s chagrin, and wins. He's the current FTW Belt holder now. (The belt, originally, was introduced by his dad Taz!) Following this, Team Taz officially disbands, which means he also doesn't have a stable. During all of this, Danhausen has been orbiting around a stable called the Best Friends. He's never officially become one of them, but he goes out with them during matches and is an assumed staple with them.

In the fall, Danhausen begins a series of in-canon and social media work in which he gets hit multiple times in the head; eventually, this triggers a different version of himself that fandom refers to usually as "Evilhausen." Evilhausen comes out in November during a 5-man tag match with the Best Friends and Rocky Romero versus the Factory.

We then never see Evilhausen again, but the strange tweets and lyric drops continue on social media. This likely will still be important. Danhausen does a ton of character work on social media. It is also worth noting that in late October, Danhausen abruptly stops talking about Hook and Hookhausen altogether, everywhere. There are months of silence.

In December, Hook begins a somewhat confusing partnership with another wrestler called "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry. The entire storyline they have closely parallels a lot of the original Hookhausen story, complete with a handshake. During this, Danhausen begins mentioning Hook and Hookhausen again in various non-canon sources. The tag team, coined as JungleHook, culminates supposedly in a "one night only" match against a stable known as the Firm. JungleHook wins. However, the Firm is still targeting Jungle Boy for some reason. They challenge Jungle Boy to a one-on-one after the tag match.

A few hours before the match, Danhausen finally tweets about the entire situation…like a jealous ex.

And during the match, Hook comes out when Jungle Boy is nearly done for, surprising the Firm enough that Jungle Boy is able to win. They are then challenged to another tag match, which they accept. Danhausen begins posting angry break up songs on social media.

Idk how Hollywood works or how it worked back then but I have one. And tbh it could just be an actor au but I prefer the aesthetics of old Hollywood so shhh

Aphmau’s an up-and-coming actress who gets her first big role because the actress who meant to play it died, and they share a striking resemblance (it was a sequel to another film, where the other actress played the role). Her entire career then turns into her playing roles the other actress would have been casted as, and media kind of forgetting they were different people, even though she wanted to make her own career.

Garroth is a Child Star, and his dad was an actor before him. He was the only one of his brothers to have a truly successful career, due to his looks and sweet personality, but it’s not really his passion. rumour has it that he’s actually looking to retire from acting fully, though Garte insists that the rumours are false. He’s kind of partnered up with Aphmau in order to put focus more on their relationship than Garroth’s potential leaving of the spotlight

Laurence is an actor known for being in more… risqué films, the ones where they push the boundaries of the hayes code a little much. He’s known to be a bit of a playboy and a heart-eater. He’s kind of Aphmau’s first opportunity to break out of the type-cast and image she’s been forced into, and Garroth’s first true act of rebellion from the life he doesn’t want. some unsavoury rumours start spinning when he starts hanging out with the ‘happy’ couple.

Lucinda is a very well known actress who often works alongside Laurence. The two of them make for a formidable pair that bring in so… so much money. Despite how many pursuers she gains, she never seems to give any of them the time of day, and is found partying more often than she is awake during the day. She is, however, close friends with a producer, and the two enjoy shopping and coffee together on the few days she’s seen during sunlight hours.

Katelyn’s dad was a big actor, and her mother was a director, and she’s always been interested in the work. She’s a little too ‘butch’ to be a leading lady, but she is more interested in the theatre aspect anyways. Her and Aphmau meet because she’s her acting instructor, and they become good friends pretty quick.

Nana comes from a family of skilled theatre actors so she went into movies to try and make herself stand out. She has her hair dyed a bright pink to make her stand out even amongst actresses, and tends to play more femme-fatal roles due to her very feline appearance and mannerisms, but is herself very sweet. Her and Aphmau meet on set and Aphmau kind of takes pity on her since she was sat all on her own whilst everyone else was having fun together. But of course Aphmau very quickly grows to love her bubbly personality. Plus, she’s friends with Katelyn already.

To simplify, it’s just a bunch of actors being assholes and hanging out with eachother, and doing things their parents wouldn’t be proud of

Chapter Three

It's late Saturday morning, and you're sitting up on your couch. You fell asleep there last night again.

The weekend will be boring and workless; which really sucks because you have this thing where if you're not busy, you get down and in your head.

Not entirely sure what else to do, you make your way to the bathroom and turn on the shower. You make sure the water is just warm enough to not be too chilled before you undress and step under the rushing water.

After washing your short(ish) medium brown hair, you push it behind your ears to get it out of your face. You soap and lather your body before shaving and rinsing one more time. You step out reluctantly and dry off before wrapping the towel around your body.

You get dressed in black jeans, sneakers, and a blue button up blouse tucked into your pants. After blow drying your hair, you straighten the natural waves down. Your hair lays softly against your shoulders, reaching just at your color bone.

To keep from being locked up in the house until the dinner tomorrow night, you head out for coffee. You drive down a few blocks to Dunkin. What it's LA? Everyone's basic. After ordering one glazed donut and a caramel iced coffee, you sit down and enjoy your breakfast while scrolling through social media.

Dunkin Donuts is always busy, so a crowd of people come and go even just throughout the short time you're there.

"Hey, Y/n! Haven't seen you in a while!"

"Oh hey Jess!" You say as she sits down across from you. Jess became one of your first friends in LA when you came to Dunkin the first time. She has just started working there part time and was immediately friendly. She was also super shocked when you finally told her why you were in LA months later.

"What've you been up to?" Jess asks, flashing you a bright smile.

"Just filming..."

"Oh yeah you guys got renewed! So fun, huh?!" You love how she's always been super enthusiastic about her friends' lives. Jess was really just a kind hearted person, although it was very funny when she would get angry at a rude costumer.

"Yeah it's been great, except for you know who,” you say, eyes dramatically cutting at the last words.

Jess stops coiling a curly strand of hair around her finger. "Oh come on! He can't be that bad. He's like super hot."

"Ew!” You give her a look of discussed. “I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that."

She laughs, her white teeth contrasting with her gorgeous dark skin. Jess is a beautiful goddess who always wears bold bright makeup and lets her curly afro fly.

"He is that bad, J. He's an arrogant asshole," you inform her, eyebrows furrowed.

"You're pathetic," she chuckles softly. "But fine fine, if you say Matthew's that bad I'll believe you. But that won't stop me from simping for Spencer Reid."

You roll your eyes at her, but you understand. Before you were on the show, you also were a Spencer Reid simp. "I don't know that new character Delilah's pretty hot.” Your lips turn up into a sky grin.

"Oh definitely," Jess shoots you a wink. "Ya know, if you ever need anyone to rant to, maybe about the new season, I'm here."

"I hope you're not using me for Criminal Minds info,” you say, cocking an eyebrow.

She chuckles, "Nah you know, I wouldn’t use you. I love you too much for that.”

"Love you too,” you grin softly.

"Oop, I gotta go,” she says, checking her apple watch. “Break's over.”

You wave goodbye before throwing away your trash and leaving the building. It's nice to have a friend in Los Angeles. Of course, you have your castmates, but they're most of the time forced to hang out with you due to work.

Speaking of castmates, tomorrow is the dinner for the cast to celebrate the new season. It was delayed multiple times because of everyone's busy schedule, but you all finally found a date for it.

You all are going to be reserving a table at a nice-casual restaurant. Which means it’s not fast food, but not fine dining.

While pulling out of the parking lot, you realize how nerve wracking the event will be. You're going to be at a big dinner table with pretty much the entire cast, and you're just a minor cast member. Anxiety decides to make you worry about something you probably shouldn’t once again.

You pull into the small parking lot of the bookstore you love. It's retro and calming and smells like a fall evening all year long. The bookstore is a small building about 40 minutes from your apartment, but nonetheless you like to visit at least every few months. It's owned by an old widow with a kind smile.

You enter the building, taking in the smell of leaves and apple cider. The dark lit bookstore's walls are framed with fairy lights and a few old timey lamps, setting the calming mood.

"Hello!"

"Hey! How are you doing, Dorothy?” You asks with a smile.

"Fine dear, and you?" She sits on your stool behind the counter stacked with books people have returned or books Dorothy might've been reading. She’s probably the most adorable old woman ever.

"Just fine as well," you give the nice older lady a smile and make your way to the isles.

Some people may say you're a little tense, but walking through this little bookstore and reading the stories on the shelves helps you calm down. It reminded you of your small town in Pennsylvania during autumn.

You sit down on the bing-bag chair underneath a soft-lit lamp and begin reading a book you've read a million times before. You rarely actually buy a book from the store, just rent them so that somebody else can enjoy it too.

This reminds you of when you'd cuddle up between your parents and they'd read to you, or when your little sister couldn't sleep at night, so she'd crawl up in your bed and make you read her a story. You missed those times, the times when Lola was young and cuddly, and your dad wasn't disappointed in your choices.

After a while, you decide it's time to head back to your apartment. By the time you get back home, it's 5pm. You decide to order some groceries and have them delivered. Your excuse was because it's LA and there's always so much traffic, but the truth was that you'd already taken off your pants.

You order a few things that you can eat as snacks or make meals with for the next few days. When it arrives, you make a big salad with veggies, chicken, and whatever else you decide to throw in it to spice it up.

After talking on the phone with your mom and Lola, you decide it's time to turn in for the night and head to bed.

Hell House LLC. (2015)

Hell House LLC. is a mockumentary style movie centered around a haunted house attraction, and the mystery surrounding the tragedy that occurred on its opening night. 

Hell House LLC. is tense and atmospheric, despite being fairly frequently interrupted by sequences of interviews and the mockumentary’s narrator providing commentary. 

This one has a lot of tropes and concepts I like, and a couple that I don’t, so let’s talk about them! Review under the cut, and as always, beasties and ghouls, SPOILERS ahead!

To start off with, I love a mockumentary type movie, especially when well-made, and this one IS well-made. The news segments look great, and the talking heads portions do a great job of making me curious about what REALLY happened on the night Hell House opened its door to the public. I’d probably even have watched this if it had been a real documentary, and that’s saying something, as I much prefer fictional horror to real life horror. 

The small town setting of the movie, a place called Abaddon, feels so familiar. I lived in a similar town for many years, and can say with utmost certainty that Hell House would have been PACKED on opening night. That part is 100% legit. There is never anything to do in a small town like that except hang out in Walmart parking lots (because you’re not allowed to hang out in gas station parking lots anymore), so when the fair rolls around or there’s a parade (or a haunted house), people jump at the chance to finally shake off the monotony, even if only for a couple hours.

Now, I’m a simple ghoul. I love a good cast of characters that get absolutely wrecked, I’m a sucker for an ‘Oh Shit It’s Real’ story beat, and a Halloween Event Goes Wrong? Forget about it, I’m THERE. Are these tropes overused? Who cares! They’re fun, and I enjoy them, and that’s all I care about.

The characters are, for the most part, just fairly decent people, aside from Paul, who I hated so, so much. He’s a fucking creep and a sex pest, and an unapologetic one at that. His friends know about it too, calling him out a few times to which he responds with pride. He’s also the main cameraman for the main story, so we get to spend just. SO much time with him. Hooray.

However this means we also get to see him be the first target of the evil that inhabits the abandoned hotel they’re fixing up, which is satisfying. His descent into indignant terror is fun to watch. He goes from this cocky asshole making fun of his friends, to cowering beneath a blanket from a dead woman. He seems to be the only one targeted, over and over, until he disappears, and then after that is pretty much when shit pops OFF.

There are some really good scares, mostly focused on one of the clown mannequins, but there’s also a good one during the test run scene, which I would have enjoyed more but the intensity of the strobing effect was dialed way too high. I also feel that it would have been scarier if they hadn’t shown the freeze-frame of the demon like, right after.

Other things about this movie I enjoyed are: the concept of Lucifer with a New York accent; a man possessed by the ghost of capitalism and then by an actual ghost; the piano tune that Paul plays; the foreshadowing from Sara in the beginning; and how we never get a clear look at what happened to most people involved in the tragedy. 

Now for the stuff I was less enthused about, which isn’t a whole lot. I’m not impressed when media uses pentacles and upside down crosses to imply Satanism/evil, it just feels, I don’t know. Uninspired? I also felt that some of the characters’ decisions were flat out stupid- primary example being the fact that they used actual, locked shackles for their basement actress, and put the only set of keys in someone else’s hands. There’s no universe in which this is a good idea.

I give this one eight ghosts outta ten, for really good scares and intense atmosphere and a nicely wrapped up ending. It did contain a few tropes that bug me, not to mention how long I had to endure Paul, but overall it’s a fun movie that I could see myself enjoying now and again.

What's her backstory?

Rebecca used to be one of the most popular girls in her grade. Liked and adored along with her apparent besties Jessica and Peggy. Until one day a nasty rumor spread about her, that she was secretly hanging out with the leader of the rejects, Lemao. Devastated and unable to prove her innocence, Rebecca was kicked out of her friend group. Finding her way to the rejects with some strange hope of proving her innocence. She finds herself unintentionally becoming a reject. Learning that maybe her old friends, were never really her friends to begin with.

What's She Like?

Rebecca is a tad bit of a hot head. With a strong sense for justice and fairness, she's often the first and loudest to speak up if she disagrees with opinions. Though she does tend to speak before she thinks. She's loyal to point that sometimes it's more of a fault then a strength, and as long as she believes in something she'll defend it. She's bright and bubbly and often kind to anyone within her range of reach. Rebecca loves to share positivity and is honest sometimes to her own determent. She's a chatter box with a curious soul and loves learning about peoples interests.

Rebecca's a gamer girl, most often playing online team games. Like Valorant, Fortnite, and Overwatch. If she's not doing that though you can also find her grinding on Stardew Valley.

She loves books and poetry. She often reads anything in the Young Adult section that isn't focused soley on romance, if any romance at all.

Coffee lover, an adamant coffee lover at that. Rebecca prefers to make it home however, as she likes the smell of coffee in her house. She'll often make one before school and once she returns home.

Rebecca's not really a sweets lover. She's more of a savory girl and doesn't quiet have a sweet tooth. So she'll often choose a more savory dessert.

Can’t draw, or sing, she's not quite the creative type so she never honed those skills.

She does Cheer, though she isn't the cheer captain of her high school. She very much enjoys the gymnastics and chirography that cheer lets her indulge in.

Sonic and Tails is the obvious one. It's iconic for a reason. :D As a Tails fan, I always appreciate when it's made clear just how much Sonic values their friendship. :3

That said, it's also cool when Sonic and Knuckles get to share moments where they're not at each other's throats. Heroes did well with that one, as did the second movie post-Eggman's betrayal of the latter.

As a defender of Big, I approve of Amy's friendship with him, since it's well within her character to not judge him at face value… Chronicles notwithstanding, cause it's Chronicles.

I think Shadow and Omega work well together in a buddy cop sort of way. I was actually tempted to include Omega in Stellar (albeit mostly cause I find Omega hilarious), but since I'm very intent on not pulling an '06/IDW and having a cast that's too bloated for its own good, I decided not to, as it would undermine my known dislike of the overuse and limitations of the Team ___ format if it reared its head in Stellar. (The Chaotix don't count, as they were already an established ensemble prior to Heroes.)

Speaking of, the Chaotix's dynamic is fun as well, particularly when Espio is visibly/audibly struggling to not lose the will to live by hanging around them. Vector is one of the most underrated recurring characters in the series IMO, so anything that lets him shine is fine with me.

Blaze's relationship with Cream was cute, though I do think it was underutilized in retrospect. Since no media seems interested in going back to it for longer than a minute (cause Blaze is chronically handcuffed to Silver), I created the Trudy/Cream dynamic in part as a spiritual successor, in the sense that Cream gets to form a close bond with someone that's neither her literal mother (Vanilla) or her older sister figure (Amy).

Sonic's relationship with Cream is also wholesome, and gives the former a prime opportunity to show that while he may take pride in his own abilities, he's not the self-centered asshole that some make him out to be.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Dr. Eggman's bond with himself. The admiration is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of working that sucker to death (c'mon now), most of it will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also his hate for that hedgehog, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Dr. Eggman, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate Mike Pollock, to realize that it's not just funny - it's the more the merrier. As a consequence, people who don't get a load of this truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humor in Eggman's existential catchphrase "I was just about to consume this delicious banana," which itself is a cryptic reference to- *gets dragged off stage*

What interactions would I like to see more of? I'll take anything to be frank, since the aforementioned over-reliance of the Heroes tradition has made me open to pretty much any dynamic that hasn't been seen all that much. If I had to name one in particular, I'd appreciate more opportunities for Rouge to interact with characters other than Shadow or Knuckles, and not have her scenes or overall purpose in the story revolve entirely around them.

Who should play Lex Luthor in the DCU?

With the DCU casting its red caped hero last month as David Corenswet in Superman Legacy, the Man of Steel's archenemy feels just around the corner.

While nothing is confirmed, names like Nicholas Hoult, Alexander Skarsgard, and Bill Skarsgard have been rumored for the role.

While I have no problem with any of these actors or these Luthors, I feel we can do better.

So before James Gunn throws out a name that will likely break the internet, I thought I'd pitch my three ideas for The DCU's Lex Luthor. Unlike my last fancast (shameless plug for My Flash Fancast Article), I have one actor who I think truly stands beyond the rest.

But first, as always, let's answer a few questions:

What performances are we looking to emulate?

Much like the Man of Steel himself, Luthor has a number of appearances across DC media, including animation, film, and live action television. So unlike my Flash article, I will not be going through all of them, even the main ones.

While I don't think any performance has been perfect, I think there are several we can draw from to create a better Lex.

I'm going to try to remain positive and only look at performances I appreciate, so instead of dunking on Jesse Eisenberg for 45 minutes, I'll just say quickly: He's doing a real good Mad Hatter in Batman vs Superman.

1. Michael Rosenbaum - Smallville

There's a lot to love from this one.

Unlike most iterations of Luthor in media, Rosenbaum begins the series an ally to Clark, even a friend. Luthor is confident, smart, but has a likeability to him I think we have lost in more recent interpretations. All those aspects should be brought over to the DCU.

We need someone who you could believe the city loves almost as much as Superman.

Rosenbaum also had a physical presence and voice to beat. He projected strength, and felt like someone who could throw hands if he needed to.

Finally, his anger and rage were bubbling just beneath all that. He could snap at a moment's notice, and in those moments is where you see the villain. That's what I want from my Lex, someone who mastered masking his demons.

2. Clancy Brown - Superman the Animated Series, Justice League & Justice League Unlimited

If it wasn't for Rosenbaum, this would be my definitive Lex Luthor.

Clancy Brown has never misunderstood the assignment, as he plays a much more aggressive and fiercer Luthor in the DCAU.

What I love about this Luthor is his ability to become a bigger threat from season to season. Making deals with Darkseid, giving speeches to Amazo, and even fusing with Brainiac, this Luthor could hang and outsmart the best of them.

While he was a little quick to anger in my opinion, this Luthor had that same strength and confidence I absolutely love in Rosenbaum.

Something inbetween these two may make the perfect Luthor.

3. Jon Cryer - Arrowverse

While there is a huge gap between two and three, I think there is a lot to love about Cryer.

While he is harder to take seriously than the other two, he does show off one thing the others don't, the fun of being the richest, smartest person in the room.

Cryer always felt like Luthor was having fun toying with heroes. Only when he dealt with the Girl of Steel did he really go off the rails.

Do I want a performance as hammy or out there as Cryer? Not necessarily, but someone who can do a little comedy may be fun here.

What ethnicity is Lex Luthor?

This one doesn't have a definitive answer.

While in most iterations of the character he appears to be white, in Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, some fans speculate he is a person of color, specifically black.

I have mixed feelings on changing a villain into a person of color, as that can have its own implications, especially when their hero wears Red and Blue.

I do think leaving Lex Luthor as an only white character can take away from the depiction. Luthor sometimes is a self made man, and making him a person of color who clawed his way through oppression only to be seconded by another white man could be an interesting take.

Again my feelings are mixed, but for now I'm going to say either way works.

Any other stipulations?

Yes, a few.

For one, I will not bring back an actor who played him before, so I'm sorry Rosenbaum fans, maybe next time.

My Luthor will be either A) a friend to Superman of the same age or B) a mentor like figure, still a friend though, at least for the first movie. So age range is anywhere between 30-50.

Unlike Superman, Luthor's are usually played by actors with a name. Jesse Eisenberg and Gene Hackman both are heavy hitters, so I will be looking for actors of similar caliber.

I also don't want to go with actors who have been or are known for different superhero roles. That doesn't mean they can't have ever been in a superhero movie (hint hint) but we're not getting Downey Jr.

If they are bald that is a plus, but not necessary.

Again I think these picks all can do it, but I really love my number 1 pick.

3. Jason Bateman

This one will probably take the most convincing but think about it.

Known for his wide ranging work such as Ozark, Arrested Development, Game Night & Air, Bateman is a comedic and dramatic force.

At 54, Bateman is my oldest Luthor, but I think he can emulate better than anyone else on this list the fun of Cryer.

I have a few problems with this casting. While he has a great calming voice, I don't know if it's Luthor. It can be sinister, and it can be friendly, but I don't know how confident it can be.

My other main problem is this Luthor doesn't seem like he can fight. I think this Luthor would feel more like someone who needs the mech suit.

Overall I think this is a fun cast and would be a little unexpected, and a challenge for Bateman. But one I think he could nail.

2. John David Washington

If we want a cool, strong, and same age Luthor to befriend Superman, I think John David Washington slides into this very well. At 38, Washington still looks like a passable 30.

Known for his roles in Tenet and Malcolm and Marie, Washington I think is our best bet at emulating Rosenbaum. The swagger, the look, and the dangerous presence bubbling beneath the surface.

My main problem with casting Washington is always the same, does he fit better elsewhere?

Washington is such a versatile actor, he sometimes feels like a blank slate. Would he better suited for Cyclops? Green Lantern? An older Firestorm? Who is to say.

In any case, I'm sure he'll be casted in one of these sooner or later, but Luthor may be an example of right place, right time for Washington.

1. Sterling K. Brown

Several years ago, I saw an episode of Brooklyn 99, which to this day is my favorite episode, where Jake Peralta and Captain Holt try their absolute best to get this killer to admit his crime or slip up.

He is so intelligent, suave, and calm, that they are unable to break him, until they hit the right nerve, and the bubbling anger boils so hot, he admits everything.

That is Lex Luthor.

And that is Sterling K Brown.

Known for hit shows like This is Us, The People vs OJ Simpson, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and movies like Black Panther and Waves, Sterling K Brown may be the most underrated actor working today.

Brown has an intensity about him that screams Luthor. He can play likeable and caring like Rosenbaum, he can reach that rage and intensity that Clancy Brown nailed, and have the fun of Jon Cryer.

Brown also has a kindness that reads extremely genuine. You'd get the sense in another world, this Luthor would be a hero.

At 47, he's old enough to be a mentor to Clark, but still feel formidable, especially with his current physical build.

Brown's Luthor I can see as a staple character for the DCU, appearing as an overarching puppet master, leader of villainous teams, tormentor of many heroes, or even uneasy ally when greater threats emerge.

No matter where they take Luthor as a character, Sterling K. Brown is the right pick to menace the DC Universe for years to come.

DUDE. FUSCHIA MALLEK IS SUCH A FUN THOUGHT TBH???

Like okay. I still imagine him to be involved with some sort of tech no matter what blood caste he would be in. So it's no different for my thoughts on Fuschia Mallek. Except ofc he's got WAYY more to see and can get his hands on any piece of information not even seen to the publics eye (stuff Tyzias would kill to get her hands on.)

Dreads about much more things in this position of caste. Not only does he dread space, what he dreads the most is the final fight with the Condesce. Even having the highest power one could possibly have on Alternia he does a lot of dreading. He knows that the odds are against him when that time comes where he's put up against the Condesce. He knows he's most likely going to get culled and the suffering of trolls will go on..but he can't help but feel he has a fighting chance. Maybe. He has a small sliver of hope.

I imagine most trolls know next to nothing about him. He has no social media's, he doesn't venture outside even in the ocean very much. Doesn't really talk to too many people. Ya know. Liking to keep a low low low profile. Obviously he has obligations to fill and handles very boring and menial shit someone in his position of power is supposed to deal with he supposes. But even being a fuschia blood it doesn't mean he can just. Snap his fingers and make everything good on Alternia, stopping the mass cullings, and stopping the suffering of lower castes. Unfortunately he doesn't have full power as he isn't the Condesce and she mostly has a say in everything. And there's no way in hell she would even consider the thought of letting up on lower castes so. That's dead in the water (hah)

But he doesn't increase the suffering either, in fact I'd say he was able to wiggle in some very very minor changes that were mostly to improve quality of life.

Oh yeah and now he has a little over more than 13 piercings. Some extras, ya know how cerulean Mallek and how some people like giving him snake bites? Well as a fushia he's got Shark bite piercings along with some conches, a bridge piercing, and a Nasallang piercing.

With those general headcanons about Fuchsia Mallek out of the way onto the rest of your request (sorry for the rambling lmao)

I REALLY love the thought of this Fushia blood Mallek and Mspar being friends, him being a Fushia instead of a Cerulean definitely changes their dynamic quite a bit and it's fun to imagine the possibilities.

If you liked how casual Mspar treats things imagine the absurd sorta casual air they have whenever they met and became friends with Mallek. Considering the heiress in the original Hiveswap seemingly had little to no knowledge of Mspar or maybe didn't even believe an alien really existed. Mallek I imagine as little as anyone notices him in particular due to a lack of general presence, he still manages to keep up with all that's going on. The heiress may not acknowledge their presence but much like Cerulean Mallek he knows they're there. But he has no intentions of obeying the "kill aliens on sight" rule.

Yeah even Fushia Mallek believes that Mspar being an alien is a rouse, believing them to also being a robot at one point.

As for general headcanons regarding them both:

🔱 Felt kinda weird to be in the presence of someone who's considered one of the highest importance and then seeing them be so...chill. And also just casually hanging out with him. Mspar can def get down with it though, Mallek certainly does. He's glad to have a friend like them and he doesn't feel so alone.

⚜️ THE coldest skin. I imagine he's got a lot of heaters around his place. Whenever Mspar was given a hoodie of his, putting it sent shivers all over from the lack of warmth and overpowering cold. I imagine the blood color and sign definitely makes things WAY more interesting as well. Since Mallek used this as well as making other things to better protect Mspar when they venture out, imagine how much stronger this message is to other trolls when it's Fushia Mallek.

🔱 Mallek sometimes can't hang out due to being busy with some important heir related things. But he does like those times where they wait anyways at his place and they hang out when he finished.

⚜️ Mspar likes to show him some of the different shells and stones they thought were neat from the waters and beaches. He likes to gift them beach themed things and shells, anytime he sees anything like that he thinks of them.

🔱 Needs to remind himself to be a little easier with them. He's a bro at heart and likes the shoulder claps and a friendly punch in the arm or something. But sometimes he forgets how much stronger he is compared to all other trolls so sometimes these friendly gestures come on too strong and leaves them with a big ol bruise (owie). He's good about this for the most part!

elizabeth's actress is one of those people who literally lives their role (nearly identical to it), even when the cameras aren't rolling. i love thinking about SEES hanging out and they're like "you know we aren't filming, right?" (but they appreciate her quirky nature)

minato's actor sometimes brings his switch to set and may play it during his break times. i like to think that at some point his headphones accidentally unplug while he's playing and then whatever scene going on needs to be refilmed because there was a "WOOMY" noise in the background.

i think that aigis and ryoji's actors should be best friends, actually. as a treat. this is self-indulgent of me, really. unfortunately i can't elaborate.

re: aigis's costume design, i think that there won't be much green-screening needed (since cosplayers have managed to make the design before! which is really impressive!). compared to everyone else though, i think she'd have the longest make-up routine/prep-time... sorry to aigis's actress 😔

pharos would be played by a child actor and i think he should be friend's with ken's actor. i don't know how that would work but ken should have some more people his age on set tbh 🤧

ryoji's actor definitely got his scarf snagged on something during filming... maybe the escalator at port island station...? in a similar vein, i would not be surprised if chidori's headband or aigis's shoulder part fell off mid-filming and they had to take a temporary break afterwards.

on the show's social media, for halloween, the cast took a special featherman-inspired photo! but also i think it'd be cute if the actors went to a haunted house together and filmed their interactions.... not that it'd be much scarier than tartarus, LOL. i can see yukari just being fed up with junpei's attempt to make the visit even scarier than it needs to be.

i think if anything about the show/set would be leaked online... it would be through junpei's instagram live or something like that 😔 i am very sorry about this but also i think that junpei would be very happy and proud of the cast's work. he'd just be so happy and be like "HEY GUYS check out what the director sent-" and all the comments is everyone else telling him "NO"

i think shinjiro, fuuka, and hamuko would occasionally cook group meals for the set! nothing beats a good ol' home-made meal! 🥺 and really, i think shinjiro would make nice gestures and just help the others on cast a lot, even after october 4th is filmed.

also something that has vaguely crossed my mind: "the cast of persona 3 reads your tweets / posts." specifically akihiko and mitsuru... i just think that they'd both be fun yknow 🥴

this is silly but i think that during december 3rd when ryoji comes and gives his lil' info-dump on what SEES has to do- he should sneeze in the middle of it. ruin the immersion y'know 😎

also in general i think it's cute whenever there's cast interviews or "see how well the cast members know each other" (and those kind of things..?). other than the full-cast, i think i can see there being group interviews with the senpai trio™ (mitsuru, akihiko, shinjiro), ryominaigis + hamuko, the second years (fuuka + junpei + yukari), etc. etc. any grouping could make for some fun questions!

and lastly.. obligatory ryomina because this is me we're talking about... ryoji has absolutely gone off script during some scenes. i could see him either referencing that one evangelion thing (i was born to meet you) or just turning it into a confession scene... LMAO.

okay that was. a LOT more thoughts than i thought i had, oops!! admittedly i have not thought about this au in FOREVER so it was nice to think about it again!!! i tried to make it a bit more balanced in terms of giving more than one character spotlight

I'm bored and can't get myself to work on any art so here's this.

I do have an idea for a rottmnt au, but have no idea if I'll do much with it. Guess it depends on how interested people will be. For now I want to get it out there cuz, personally, I think it's cool.

We're All Mad Here

It's based off my favorite fairytale, Alice In Wonderland with a splash of American Mcgee's Alice: Madness Returns. So, essentially it's going to be fun (at least for me) and dark. I love that game with all my heart, and I'm genuinely so sad we aren't getting a third instalment :( it's messed up what happened and I'm genuinely so sorry for the team.

For the cast. I had some ideas but unfortunately not every role has been filled.

First and foremost, out dear Alice. I immediately thought of the darling April O'Neil for this, hands down. I have some design ideas my head that I just haven't gotten down yet. So yes, it would've been April centric which (from what I've mostly seen) would be pretty different.

The Mad Hatter. Again, without even a thought, I thought of Michelangelo. We've all seen him. He can be absolutely unhinged. I wanted to use that to the absolute best of my ability and make an awesome character. And honestly he just gives me Mad Hatter energy, I can't really explain it.

The Cheshire Cat. This took a little bit of thought before I settled on Leonardo. So I would be going with, essentially, the blue version we got in the live action Alice In Wonderland movies and also the Alice: Madness game. Leo is cunning, a bit of a trickster. He fits with what I have in mind purrfectly... I'll see myself out.

The Queen Of Hearts/The Red Queen. I didn't really feel like I had to think much on this one, I went with Big Mama. Cuz like... Come on. Have you seen her??? Yes of course there's also her husband, the king, whose role would probably go to Splinter.

Of course there's still the remaining two brothers: Raphael and Donatello.

With Raph I thought at first to go with the March Hare/Thackery Earwicket. He's the best friend of the Mad Hatter, and of course, equally insane as him. But unfortunately I also thought of Donnie for this as well down the line. I love the Raph/Mikey and the Donnie/Mikey dynamics so much I wasn't sure which to choose. And I'd hate for either of them to get a minor part.

Of course there's also the Caterpillar, the White Queen and other characters to think about.

Why this?

Well..Why not? 🤷🏼 Honestly. And as I've stated prior, I feel in love with the story and concept when I was a kid. I watched the movies and fell in love even more. And with the game, it was the first one I really bought by myself haha. I felt so cool doing so. I saw it was an Alice inspired thing and immediately had to have it. Then I played it and my mind was blown.

The horror, psychological horror, the art style, the aspects of it... It holds near and dear to my heart still to this day. I mean, fucking hell I'm replaying it on my old PS3 (hang in there old girl don't catch on fire pls). I probably was a bit too young, considering the target audience of it, but still. I'm happy I was allowed to have that experience... No matter how buggy it was and still is 😅.

I think I mostly enjoyed the ability to escape into another world and be able to just... Leave this one for a while. I'm talking about the original story here lol.

Anyway one day I was just thinking and decided on this concept. I love the turtles and AIW. Putting those two concepts and medias together would definitely take a lot of time and planning but I pretty much have a basic layout of what I want. I just really need to have it physically wrote down lmao.

Everyone has such cool AUs and I kind of wanted to join in...? I know this probably won't blow up and get popular, and I'm okay with that. I just mostly enjoyed getting this idea out there. Trust me, I've had this in my pocket for a long while.

spider-verse 2 thoughts post

everybody has already said this is only half of a movie but it's really only half of a movie, huh. the character stuff in the first hour gets a lot of room to breathe it's really cool that we just get a bunch of down tempo stuff with miles and his supporting cast but also like an hour in when we're still just kinda luxuriating in it it becomes really apparent that we're not resolving anything until next year. the like last fifteen minutes really suffer also where it's pretty obvious what the cliffhanger is gonna be but they roll it out extremely slowly. just feels kinda agonizing. felt like they could have been snappier with that part and it would have only been better

she was definitely relieved that all the stuff in the trailers that she thought looked kinda corny and bad with like all the spider-men walking around the big spider-base doing weak meta jokes wound up only being like 15 minutes of the movie. but also that part wound up being worse than she expected because in addition to being pretty corny and bad it just blows up the scope of the movie to a scale that just doesn't work. if everybody who's in on miguel's shit is like. characters we know who have their own conflicted personal reasons to cling to the ideas he's putting forward it works but when every spider-man ever is going to fall in line to try to beat up a teenager it's like. why. cut it out. take a step back

she got her hopes up waaaaay too high about ben reilly, he's got less than nothing in this movie. that's her fucking boy! but all they give him are weak gags about a vague idea of what 90s comics were like. no specificity, no attempt at even suggesting that he's a character. she's a little hopeful for the next part still because if you're telling your story about like a metafictional conflict about like. who deserves to be/is supposed to be spider-man then like. putting ben in there as a guy with a conflicted position is the easiest layup in the world! he's the most natural fit to expand on what they're doing in the full version of this movie instead of the half of the movie they released. so here's hoping

hobies introduction scene was like. kind of terrible, just rapid-fire jokes about a very slight concept of his character while trying to cram him into a love triangle as like a vague threat to miles while doing no work to establish him as a character in regards to that relationship. but once they just kind of chill out a little bit and he's the guy who's just hanging around and fucking with everybody it's like. yeah okay he's pretty fun. so that's nice

this movie looooves cop dads so much truly nobody on there planet is more enthused by the cop dad/crime dad dichotomy in bendis' miles comics than lord and miller. the ensuing character stuff mostly works once you're like willing to build the remove to accept that this is the level the movie is operating on but there's definitely some kinda messy thematic entangling of the cop stuff and the spider-man stuff that hopefully won't consume the back half

anyway movie really pretty. still a really exhilarating vision of spider-mans moving around and fighting and saving people. cool visual depictions of spider-mans doing things are one of the greatest cultural contributions of superhero media. can't complain
