Hcs about the Rise boys with a younge rsister who is totally like nimona??
Punk music, always thinking about action, super into manipulating and robbery, whines every time one of the brothers knock out an enemy “how come you got to kill them??” <- an actual line from the movie- And basically yeah lol.
please and thank you so much!! Don’t forget to take breaks and take good care of yourself!!
okay so i haven’t watch nimona yet BUT i will do my absolute best at trying to embody her
(aka i did research and i’m praying it was enough)
Tumblr media
raphael ;
your relationship with raph is so !!
you respect him so much— like seriously!!! when they first found you, you were very intimidated by him, which made you dislike him.
but overtime you realized he was just a softy that could get mean when needed.
and honestly?? you respected that.
it’s like with mikey— complete opposites but besties!!
you hold him on such a high pedestal, he’s kind of your idol (strength wise mainly).
he’s always saying ‘remember no killing!’ and ‘you cannot kill that guy for not liking your outfit!’.
he’s the cool older brother and you love him!!
Tumblr media
donatello ;
now. you’d think that you and donnie would get along great considering you’re both yk… borderline murderers/psychopaths!
but… y’all fight ALL. THE. TIME.
it’s always over who gets to fight which person and who gets dibs on killing ‘knocking out’ said person.
poor raph ALWAYS has to break up your fights. the fights are to the point where it gets PHYSICAL.
BUUUT!! there are times where the two of you get along.
usually it’s when it’s super late and you both are very sleep deprived and running on 16 cups of coffee!
but hey, a win is a win i guess???
Tumblr media
leonardo ;
urgh leo… i feel like this is a very one sided hateship (if that makes sense?).
like, you love hate him and his dumb, corny jokes but he adores you!! he adores his little sister!! he’ll shower you in affection like he does w/ the others!!
all the hugs, head-locks, knuckle rubs (i think that’s what they’re called), etc etc.
he just adores you and really doesn’t care if you want to curb stomp him into oblivion (don’t look up curb stomping, just know that it’s violent).
your relationship with him is almost like his and donnie’s except donnie doesn’t actually want to stab him sometimes.
thoughhhh there are times where you’ll show him some love, whether that’s in the form of not attacking him for a few days or silently laughing at one of his terrible one-liners.
Tumblr media
michaelangelo ;
first of all—
you and mikey?? complete opposites but absolute besties!!
i feel like he’d see you try to do some dumb illegal shit but immediately go ‘no no no! let’s not do that!’ and pull you away—
he has to talk you out of a LOOOT of illegal things. like. A LOT.
one time you tried breaking into the empire state and almost killed a guard……… mikey thankfully followed you and stopped you!! (why did you try to break in? i haven’t the slightest clue!)
it just fits!!
you’d lay your life on the line for him!! honestly who wouldn’t??? just because he’s too good for this world doesn’t mean he should leave it!!
plus, you and doctor delicate touch are such a duo when need be.
OMG ALSO!!! i feel like you two would totally vibe to bratmobile, bikini kill, le tigre, jack off jill, & just so many riot grrl (fem led punk) bands!!!
y’all are just THE duo!!!!
Tumblr media
pls i hope i got her personality correct dkgsldna
also!!! i hope you liked this :)

So I know Ambrosius not believing Ballister several times about Nimona is crucial to the overall plot...
But imagine the possibilities if Ambrosius DID switch sides sooner...
This is gonna be a long one...
Like, as they were crashing and breaking out of the institute Ambrosius ended up being in the way, slammed into, then hauled along for the ride...
Nimona lands, like she did. Ballister slides in lamely next to her, like he did.
"Something, something, something... We win." *Cue explosions* "Metal."
Tumblr media
Ballister comes to for a moment, dazedly looking around. Instead of a rock knocking him unconscious though, it's Ambrosius landing on him. Remember, he's wearing armor. Armors are hard and with Ambrosius's added body weight, it's heavy.
Nimona's blinking in surprise and like "Oh. So, now he's here too... Now, should I kill him or... Ugh, right, he's the boss. Okay. Great, now I gotta drag them both."
The scene with Ballister coming to plays out pretty much the same way. Finally, when Ballister relents and goes with the shark handshake, Nimona added...
Tumblr media
"So, should we kill your Nemesis or do we use him like some kind of hostage?"
"My Nemesis... Him... What? Who? Wait, hostage?!"
Nimona revealed a tied up Ambrosius and still unconscious at the other side of the room. Ballister freaks out for a moment because first, is he dead?!
"I mean, he could be? Just say the word, boss."
"NO! That's a real, BIG NO!"
Of course their arguing and Ballister's yelling wakes Ambrosius up and he muffled screaming, through a gag, alerted Ballister that's he's conscious now. Also, Ballister blushing because he remembers some of their bed room activities and Nimona could kinda tell and kinda smacks Ballister for it.
"Ew, even I can tell what you're thinking. Is this really the time?"
Ballister glares at her before going about trying to calm Ambrosius down.
Of course, Ambrosius starts with the freaking out, then the accusations, even while Ballister's trying to explain things, Ambrosius is still having a hard time believing him cause he literally saw the Queen murdered in front of him but of course, the Director isn't here to manipulate him.
So, Ballister eventually manages to reason with him with a "You know me, you know I love her like a mother. You know I LOVE YOU, and I hope... You still love me? Even if you didn't, you know me enough and you know I'm not a murderer." and Ballister hits him with the big ol' eyes and Ambrosius is blushing and staring at him speechless because GREAT GREAT GRANDMOTHER Ambrosius misses those eyes, and basically, every inch of Ballister. AND OF FUCKING COURSE he still LOVED BALLISTER.
Meanwhile, Nimona is just watching them while eating tacos, and her expressions is clearly one that translate to "I know what you are, I know what you are. Homosexual. Gay. Gay. Omg, there's a rainbow here without the rain and sunshine..." Then she notes Ambrosius armor shining like the sun even while indoors and how Ballister always looks like wants to cry, so rain. "Okay, never mind."
Finally, Ambrosius goes "Okay, sure, let's do... Whatever it is you wanna do."
So, a team of trio is unofficially, officially formed and Nimona is already aware of how much of a third wheel she's gonna be.
Tumblr media
I got more. Might make a part 2 if anyone's interested lmao.

well i guess it's appropriate that i'd be forced onto tumblr to talk about this lol!! watched the nimona movie with jordan (one of our original bonding points!!) and really enjoyed it
my only disappointments:
goldenloin's luxurious hair... where did u go
why did they call him ballister boldheart and NOT have that be setup for calling him ballister blackheart as a villain that wouldve worked perfectly
blitzmeyer!! i get why she didnt fit but i missed her. bal couldve had a mad scientist gal pal....
i also miss nimona's fake backstory where she was turned into a dragon by a witch. "wait then why can you turn into other things" "the spell was slippery. she wasn't a very good witch"
her "evil dragon" form was cooler in the comic
but!! there were also a lot of changes i really enjoyed
nimona's FANGIES!! overall she was such an expressive little goblin it was great
ballister was also way hotter which i appreciated, the mustache adds a lot
lot of great new jokes. off the top of my head the demon child thing was great, "chopping off arms is not a love language!!", fake goldenloin death throes, and much more
i was a little turned off by the director not being Pointy at first but i kind of like that they made her look like a white pixar mom it fits with the narrative better. also she had a great villain speech
nimona's TRAGIC BABY YURI FLASHBACK!!!!!! CAnnot emphasize this enough
also making nimona's trans/nb allegoriness feel more front and center
great stuff with the ballister/ambrosius romance too i really liked how they developed it, loved little bits like ambrosius arguing that ballister should choose him over nimona
ANYWAY great movie great adaptation, loved the art style, the movement, the humor, the feelings.... i think i mightve liked to see a little more about what was Beyond The Wall (and also how nimona got over it but i mean it wouldnt necessarily be hard for her she can turn into a bird. which just goes to show how unnecessary the wall was in the first place) but yeah very happy with it

Quick Thoughts on Nimona
Based on the graphic novel by the creator of that She-Ra reboot no one likes anymore, Nimona is a movie that is well-worth the wait.
For those who don’t know, this WAS originally a Blue Sky Studios produced movie intended to be in theaters. They got about...80-90% done before Disney shut down the studio and forced Nimona to be indefinitely shelved until someone wanted it.
And it turns out that Netflix wanted it. And boy...Blue Sky REALLY dodged a bullet with this one.
Oh, not because the movie is bad. Again, it is VERY well-worth the wait.
The animation is stellar, having a unique style that sets it apart from other animated movies, as well as having fluent movements and bombastic facial expressions. The most it shines are in the action sequences, which are fun to watch even if there’s not many of them (really wish there were, though).
And the characters are also pretty decent. Ballister has a very tragic beginning to his story, as well as a character arc that’s pretty endearing.
His boyfriend Ambrosius is also endearing, having a decent conflict that makes you understand his side and why he’s always willing to go back and forth on what to do.
And the main antagonist, who is a surprise that’s cleverly revealed halfway, is a great villain representing the flaws of authority and why the people who make the laws actually have zero value on human life. It IS easy to tell they’re the twist villain, and their motivations are a little lacking, but you can let that stuff go if its thematically appropriate, which it is.
But then there’s the real star of the film: Nimona. At first, I found it a little weird how she’s top billing with how much of the story’s conflict is based on Ballister, but the film really picks up with Nimona, who is the heart of the movie. She’s definitely that character who some are going to love while others are going to hate, but I find her wild and violent tendencies entertaining and her chemistry with Ballister to be on point. Plus, her backstory and attitude towards how people see her really helps to endear her.
Seriously, I wasn’t expecting too much drama from Nimona, but BOY does it deliver with a few heart-clenching scenes that almost got to me a few times.
Not to mention that the themes of...I guess anti-police is the best way to put it. It’s made pretty obvious that the knights and their director are to represent the police system, and the movie does well to illustrate the flaws of it. Not EVERYTHING is perfect, but it’s...good enough.
Any real complaints I have towards the movie is the pacing and the jokes. The movie knows when to slow down for when it’s important, but there are some scenes that fly by, particularly some bonding moments between Ballister and Nimona and the development of their relationship. And the jokes can be hit or miss. When it hits, it’s REALLY funny. When it doesn’t, it’s REALLY awkward.
But that’s about it...So, WHY do I say that Blue Sky dodged a bullet with this one?
Because this is a movie that’s very against police and VERY supportive of the LGBTQA+ community. Nimona makes it clear that the bad guys are the ones who kill what society deems as monsters, even though some of these monsters got that name because all they did was exist.
If Disney didn’t kill Blue Sky, the amount of homophobic and conservative parents demanding that Nimona got pulled from theaters WOULD.
People already aren’t alright with the gay and mind-changing stuff that’s on TV nowadays. Hell, I saw on Twitter that a guy destroyed his sons Funko pop collection AND TV just because the kid was watching THE OWL HOUSE. There are VERY bad parents out there who would do anything to “protect the children,” and Blue Sky would have undoubtedly went down for a VERY brave stand to take.
Which is a shame because Nimona really is that good. It’s a solid 7/10 film that left me entertained throughout and should be seen by everyone. Bit of a warning, there’s a bit of an attempt to self-harm/suicide near the end...but thankfully it was only an attempt.
Still, check out Nimona. It’s fun, it has heart, and it’s pleasant on the eyes. You won’t be disappointed by this one.

Okay. I’ve watched the nimona movie twice now. Thoughts.
The first time I watch the movie, I’m not gonna lie. I was kind of a dick about it in my head just because going into it I did expect like a comic adaptation, but re-watching the movie I actually really liked it. I will always have a lot of love for the comic, and I think that the nuances in the dynamics and relationships are incredibly well written, and just are very realistic in the way that people emotions can’t just be healed overnight and trust is not something that can be re-one as easily as helping someone you hurt after hurting them for so long. But in terms of the movie as a way for, specifically children, younger people who are the target audience to understand things like classism, explicit queer representation, and fear that is not only unfounded, but pushed by means of excuses from idealize figures being spoken for by people who have never met them, and barely believe in themselves, just the ideas the associate with the idealized figure (Jesus/ galorith). I love how the queerness grew, as originally this was a college comic made by ND in the 2000s and now is a explicit love story throughout the entire movie. Originally I disliked the fact that Ambrosius was not the one to make the decision to hurt Ballister. That sounds bad, but in the original the reason that bal is hurt is just Ambrosius’s own hubris and his inability to comprehend the hurt he’s caused after, causing their relation ship to fester for years.
Re-watching it and bringing over the comic some more, I don’t love the lack of time skip, but I think it makes a lot more sense with the plot that they introduced in the movie and I think that expanding on why Ambrosius made the decision he did, even if it changes his responsibility in the situation, was a good decision. I had a lot of thoughts on Ambrosius and his demeanor, and just the way that he was manipulated while also making his own personal bad decisions, so I went into the movie with that on my mind, and that’s just not how you should go into this movie because then you’re going to have the wrong ideas about Ambrosius in this movie, who is a different character from him in the comics. He’s a better person who was being manipulated and honestly fuck anyone who says that worst representation.
Some things I loved even more than the comic is the way more explicit trans metaphor in the story and I loveddd the pacing. I think that while I missed Blitzmeyer, I really liked the squire and I loveeed the insight into nimona and galoreths relationship. I missed the directors reveal of being an elf or something as well as some of the more horror-esk vibes but I think the scifi fantasy was a vibe and the director being human was a good way to to symbolize her as a representation for false narratives as a whole and the impact that can have on people being led by them. The clear anti classism message was amazing and I loved it and I adored Nimona’s entire vibe as well. The soundtrack was great and her being into alt culture just makes a lot of sense in any time period the movie is based in.
Tdlr: don’t go into Nimona (movie) with any ideas from the comics. It’s not the same story and that’s okay. It’s a way to interact with younger audiences and help them understand about differentness and that it’s not a bad thing. The movie was beautiful and I’m very happy for everyone who got to be apart of it.

prefacing this by saying that I DO love the movie and I do think it’s very good - I have just reread the nimona comic and there are a couple things that I do miss in the new version of the story. once again it’s still great. but some things about the comic that make it different are very special to me and I do want to highlight them
the fact that ballister’s been a villain for years!!! I love that. I love that he’s used to his position and not shying away from it. he’s been disappointed in the Institution for a long time and is not making any excuses for the system. he doesn’t want back.
there also goes his descent into villainy. not caused by some unforgivable crime he’s “commited” not a drastic event he just was pushed out because he didn’t fit the standard of what a knight should be anymore. he could still be a hero in the public eye he could still work hard his reputation could be pristine and it wouldn’t matter because he was tangibly not wanted
ambrosius. honorary rapunzel hair mention before we move onto even more important things like him being petty and jealous and selfish. I can’t stress enough that this guy blew his best and only friend’s arm off not because he posed any kind of danger but because he wanted the position ballister was about to get. yes he didn’t orchestrate it himself yes it wasn’t a conscious decision but ultimately when push came to shove he did pull the trigger. he did it for himself. and he did get the spot and he did keep it for years even though it meant he and ballister were apart. also the best thing about it. HE DIDN’T EVEN APOLOGIZE. he thought he did! surely! but no! he just kept bitching every time ballister brought up the topic of his arm like ok 🙄 what about something relevant for once. like I love him. he is ready to sacrifice himself for other people but he’s not a nice person. oh and also he is a little vain about his appearance. as a fun little sprinkle on top
I loved that the future knights were taken from common families and orphanages. the movie is making a different point but pulling young vulnerable people who often don’t have any choice in the matter in to serve the system is i think a relevant notion
also the more covert crimes against its people the Institution was committing in the comic. gathering poison and weapons right under the city with no care for people. not so covert but can’t forget suppressing the rallies! there was no Weapon about to destroy half the city per se not purposefully used at least but you still couldn’t say that the Institution wasn’t damaging
rumors that the mysterious creature replaced gloreth. just wanted to put it out there. that panel slays
I do like that bal and nimona’s initial fallout was caused by her lying and omitting things from him. he’s not scared of her as much as he’s hurt that she still (understandably from nimona’s point of view) doesn’t trust him
man’s she still goes to save him and endures violence to keep him alive because . love <3
the strong part stays the weak disintegrates. you ARE the strong part. AND SHE ISSSSS!!!!!
it’s not as outright plain happy as in the movie but the bittersweet ending does suit the comic and it does punch me in the gut so I can only nod in approval crouched on the ground a hot mess
I think that’s it for now I let it out of my system . love both stories recommend both stories watch and read nimona 💋

Genderqueer
Labels are weird.
Last week I got the opportunity to watch Nimona, which if you haven't seen yet, you ABSOLUTELY SHOULD, it's great. Anyways, there's a lot of things in there that queer folks should pay attention to, the marquis character being a gay man being primary of course, but also the title character being gender-ambivalent at least, and queer as FUCK ALL most of the time.
In any case, it of course got me to think about my own relationship with gender, and how it is queered. I would classify myself as transgender and transfeminine, but at the beginning of my gender journey, I started out feeling most comfy with "nonbinary," because I sure as hell wasn't a man. I started with what I am NOT, and worked from there. But when my therapist listed off a lot of labels to see which ones I felt most attracted to, "genderqueer" was among them, and it lodged in my brain.
Genderqueer, gender-fluid, gender nonconforming. Something that isn't quite one thing, nor quite another, but can be a both/and or a neither/nor. There are days when I am 100% girl, but there are also days where I'm 50-50, 75-25, and so forth. It goes back and forth, and though I am transitioning to be trans-feminine and primarily female presenting, there's always going to be a part of me that's going to nag and say "Ehhhhhh, kind of?"
Nimona would often bristle when Ballister would try to get her to stay in "girl" form.
"I'm not a girl... I'm a shark (chomp chomp)"
She wasn't a girl. She was, but she was also more. Her gender was probably most described as "yes, and..."And honestly, it helped me feel seen.
I am not a man, but I'm also probably not 100% a woman, either. The truth is somewhere in the middle, outside the line. I like being feminine, but I also have aspects that don't neatly lay on top of the role of "girl" either. It's hard to explain, but Nimona embodied it, and helped me visualize it some.
My gender is, at the end of the day, mine and mine alone to define, or not define. This of course will most likely confound my cis friends and family whenever I talk with them, surely. So much of our world is confined to binaries, while I've never been content with binaries. I like to "yes and...". When I taught, all my answers would be multiple choice: these folks say this, others say another thing, and others say the whole question itself is flawed, and so on. It pissed off parishioners when I wouldn't ever give a straight answer, but I don't think there's much of me that's straight these days, or back then for that matter. Least of all my answers.
So perhaps I'll just be one of those folks who collect genders along the way, rolling the gender ball like a katamari and picking up whatever feels right. I'm not a guy. But I guess I'm not completely a gal either, at least partly.
Genderqueer suits me alright. (chomp chomp)

TAG SOMEONE YOU WANT TO KNOW AND/OR SOME OF YOUR BESTIES
Tagged by @kikiroo - thank you, my darling!!! *friendly shark bites at you*
Last song: Probably either The Man or Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift. I just spent a week with my sister on vacation and she had just watched the Eras Tour movie so she was getting both of those stuck in my head all the time, and then we'd have to listen to them ofc.
Last movie: It was Host by Rob Savage (or at least it was when I started this, lol). I watched it 'cause I saw something on Insta about the Top 10 Scariest Movies according to what the average resting heart rate is for it. I didn't find it very scary (got me at the end though, woo boy) but I did love it - but then I love things that use the pandemic well and this definitely did imo. Plus it's all structured around (and shot through) a Zoom interface so it's only, like, fifty-seven minutes long because that's all you get when you don't pay for Zoom, haha.
Currently watching: Goosebumps, Last Week Tonight, The Fall of the House of Usher, Two Sentence Horror Stories, Our Flag Means Death and Ghost Files and I am half-assing all of it. I've either only started the first episode or only watched the first episode on all of those. I have no staying power these days. Though I am only one ep behind on Last Week Tonight \o/
Other stuff I watched this year: Unfortunately for you guys, I write fucking everything down and it is now the tenth month of the year. I GOT RECS. Well, Meg 2: The Trench, which is a cinematic masterpiece and I will take no questions on that (unless they're Joming related). (Cognizant of the month) Here are spooky things I watched this year and liked a lot: X, The Black Phone, The Menu, Terrifier and Terrifier 2 (this is definitely only for gore fans though), Bodies Bodies Bodies, Cocaine Bear (also a cinematic masterpiece, also not taking questions), Interview with the Vampire, Wednesday, Severance, Evil, The Last of Us, Over the Garden Wall, Magpie Murders, What We Do in the Shadows, and Shining Vale (haven't started the second season yet!). Also really liked: Paddington, Nimona, Barbie, Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse, Vivo, Derry Girls, The Bear, The Boys, Mythic Quest, Only Murders in the Building (I haven't watched the new season yet though but I expect great things), Reboot, Tuca & Bertie, Los Espookys, Barry, Extraordinary, Crashing (I literally watched it three times in a row - watching Sam and Fred fall in love 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 plus I fucking love Jonathan Bailey - I consistently find him ridiculously charming), Hacks, Avenue 5 (so sad this got canceled when I feel like it just hit its stride), Staged (I've watched it probably six times now), Abbott Elementary, A Black Lady Sketch Show, Ted Lasso, I Think You Should Leave Now (just for that one sketch, you know the one and, if you don't, I am HAPPY to tell you about it!), Unstable (petition for Fred Armisen to be in everything though, right?), Black Mirror, Central Park, Elite (I haven't watched the new season yet!), Reservation Dogs (ditto), The White Lotus, Good Omens, Letterkenny, Minx (what's ditto but for the third time?), Heartstopper, Sasaki and Miyano, and The Other Two.
Shows I dropped/didn’t finish: I'm behind on everything all the time so I'm only going to answer for shows I dropped and I don't think I've dropped any this year?
Currently reading: The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw & Richard Kadrey (about halfway through), House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (I'll be reading this until I die, I think), Cunk on Everything by Philomena Cunk, The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab (nearly finished!), The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith, My Darling Girl by Jennifer McMahon and The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice (decided to do a reread of the IwtV series this year since I never actually finished it and only got to book ten and I read it way too long ago to remember anything that's happening if I just picked it up now).
Currently listening to: My calendar alarm telling me to go to my dog's vet appointment.
Currently working on: getting at least a third of the way through My Darling Girl
Also absolutely no pressure tagging @andavs, @callunavulgari, @piratefalls, @clotpolesonly, and anyone else who wants to do this!

Spoilers for Nimona movie (and comic)
I finally got around to watching Nimona (forgive me for taking two weeks, it’s exam season in Italy) and when I tell you I broke down crying when I saw the Nimona “memorial wall”. The contrast with the ending of the comic, where Ballister is the only one who doesn’t see Nimona as a monster, while in the movie everyone sees her as a hero and there is an entire wall with “We love Nimona” plastered on it just, got to me.
And, since some drawings were actually made in the style of the comic, to me it also felt like those were messages from all the people who read Nimona through the years who were thanking “her” for making them feel less alone. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, idk, I’m really emotional rn.
Rather than filling the hashtags with my thoughts I guess I’ll just write a mini review:
They did many changes from the original comic, indeed, but it’s fine. In the end they’re two different things and they’re both GREAT. This movie is the proof that adaptations can be different because, if they’re well made, we can get not one but two masterpieces. The humor wasn’t always my thing, but it’s fine: it’s a matter of taste after all. Ballister and Ambrosius are different from their comic counterparts, but I loved them nonetheless. And, of course, my fave shapeshifter was everything I could wish for and more (yes, this is partly a joke on the fact Nimona’s a shapeshifter).
What really surprised me is that they managed to cover many things, even with depth, and the movie never felt rushed, which is something I can’t say for most movies I saw lately. And yeah, the trans/queer metaphor was really more blatant in this one, but I found it masterfully done, and maybe it should, for once, be blatant.
I also want to spend two words on the animation because, tbh, in the trailers I didn’t like it at all: things and characters felt a bit made of rubber. But I actually loved it watching the movie??? Idk why, maybe on a big screen (rather than my phone, where I watched the trailers) you can actually see the details, lol (and overall it was really fluid and well made). The 2d animations sequences were also beautiful. Of course, it’s no Spiderverse, but I’m pretty sure the budget for these two movies is vastly different.
Also, love how in the credits we can see that the monopoly (who, for those who might not know, is THE game about how capitalism sucks) rip off is called “World Domination”. I love a good ol’ capitalism critic.
Anyway, thanks to ND Stevenson, Annapurna and all the people who worked on this masterpiece (and I guess Netflix too gets some thanks). Hoping this movie is the first of many of its genre.
Edit: forgot to mention my actually only qualm, which is about the italian version of the movie, where they translated Goldenloin's name roughly as "Goldenlimbs" or "Goldenedges". Cowards

🦚 for the queer ask game!
🦚 - Are there any queer books/shows/etc. that you would suggest?
oh my god YEAH absolutely. i used to be a queer media connoisseur (im no longer a romance girlie when i consume media bc i write so much of it but i still have love for the genre). i'll do one rec for each category up here but ill put some more under the cut!!
book: aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe. it's my favorite book i've gotta put it out there. literally changed my life when i was like 16 i love it so much
show: there's so many popular ones that i feel like if you're gay you've already seen them by now, so im gonna throw a curveball and go with crazy ex-girlfriend. they talk a LOT about lgbtq+ identities and explore dynamics with different couples, and if you love musicals, you absolutely must go watch it rn i fear
movie: moonlight. oh my god if you haven't seen moonlight go watch moonlight it's so so incredible 10/10. a drama that follows a black gay man from childhood to adulthood, explores the themes of masculinity, family, and friendship as well as romantic love. it's just an incredible movie it deserves all the hype tbh
music: once again there's so many popular queer musicians nowadays that i Do Not HAVE to rec (you know the ones they go hard), so im gonna rec chrissy chlapecka!! she just makes such incredible, sugary-sweet pop music about such amazing fucked up shit i love her
send me some gay asks!
okie doke as promised here's some more recs from yours truly bc i really, really love media and have a collection to rec atp NDNKFNKND ill try to order them by genre from least to most obscure LMAO
BE WARNED: i do read some graphic stuff - im an adult and my media taste reflects that. before you read anything i rec, look it up for trigger warnings!! i don't want anybody to be hurt by something i recommend. <3
books:
of course like. simon vs the homosapien agenda by becky albertalli is out there. this is one of those classics i was talking about KDNKFNFK it's very ya-gay-romance-romcom you can eat up ya know. the movie's also not too bad (people think it's 'cringey' nowadays but that was HUGE for me when i was like 19 and had my first girlfriend). anyway it's feel-good fluff if you like that kind of thing!!
red white and royal blue is obviously another classic and one i can't rec enough. i love the way its written, i love the characters, i love the plot. like it's everything, if you're into the romcom vibe this is a great one to check out. (and as a bonus this one also has a movie and it Slaps)
it's not like it's a secret by misa sigura is a pretty solid wlw coming-of-age novel that i highly rec if you're into the rom-com type book. it's also got some EXCELLENT poc representation!!
bloom by kevin panetta is a graphic novel and i love it. so so so much. truly i think i read this in a day and i am NOT a huge graphic novel reader. feel-good romcom, poc rep, body diversity, AND pretty pictures. what is there not to love. everyone should read bloom tbh
lies we tell ourselves by robin talley is Probably my favorite wlw book ever. it's historical fiction and it is Everything to me. and im actually a known historical fiction hater so take it from me - its Good.
carry on by rainbow rowell is i think a classic at this point and i love it. so so so much. you ever identify with a character a little too hard. yeah thats me and this book. i gave my best friend a copy for her graduation. it is an Excellent take on 'remember all the heroes you wanted to be gay when you were a kid. imagine if they were.' it's my beloved
a hero at the end of the world by erin claiborne is another great one in the same vein, with a punchy, dry humor twist. basically if you were a harry potter kid but you hate jkr. you'll love this one and carry on KSNDKDNFK
nimona by nd stevenson is another graphic novel!! it's another fantasy, so if that's your cup of tea, i highly recommend it. it's got an amazing queer love story, a genderfluid protag, and most importantly, found family. literally everything. (it also has a movie but i haven't seen it yet
the raven cycle by maggie stiefvater is HUGEEEE i love that series it reshaped me. it's. mystery/supernatural i would say? it has multiple of my fave queer characters of all time and honestly. everyone there is a little gay. one of my absolute faves <3
we are the ants by shaun david hutchinson is a sci-fi horror adventure story and this one. it stuck with me. the main character hit me so hard and his internal struggle is so SO interesting. if you're into this kind of shit. give it a shot!
every day by david levithan is not one of MY all-time faves, but i can still say it's super interesting and has great rep!! it has a genderfluid/agender main character (depending on how you look at it). i will say i think there are multiple books in the series (?) but i stopped at one bc. it made me too sad anyway. <3
the perks of being a wallflower by stephen chbosky is not queer bc it's explicitly about a queer character or a queer love story, BUT. it still has one of my favorite lgbt characters of all time. patrick you will always be famous to me. as a bisexual girl in a catholic high school, saw a Lot of myself in patrick. (i do also have a special place in my heart for the movie bc it was my depression movie as a teen but patrick is played by ezra miller so be warned)
one of us is lying by karen mcmanus is another one that's not just. About a Gay Couple BUT it is one of my fave books (a murder mystery retelling of the breakfast club) and it has a gay main character!! his struggle with his sexuality is something he really struggles with and he has a boyfriend and i adore him.
shows:
i mean obviously like. heartstopper is incredible. like i said im not super into the romcom/young adult genre anymore but that show is just so beautiful and amazing and really healed my inner gay teen. it has a really diverse cast and representation for all kinds. i really recommend it!!!
everything sucks was gone before its time, but it is SUCH an amazing show. it has one of my fave on-screen wlw couples of all time. it's a feel-good, coming of age classic and i miss it deeply. (what did you just say??? 'katie rewatch it' oh my god you're onto something)
now if yall know me. glee is absolutely gonna be on this list. is it good? technically no. is it one of the greatest pieces of satire ever created? up until season three yes. i realized i was gay via santana lopez. THE gay character of all time. and all the love in my heart for all the other lgbt characters (kurt hummel you will always be famous to me......) some of it's a little dated (don't get me STARTED on unique) but it does genuinely have some great lgbt rep and if you watch it with a grain of salt it's a great comedy
julie and the phantoms made by kenny ortega (of THE high school musical and descendants fame) and it has a gay character i love!! (actually technically it has a few <3)
i'm a huge consumer of kids' media (i think phineas and ferb is a literal masterpiece and im not even kidding) so if you're like me and enjoy the disney/kid show beat i cannot rec andi mack enough. it's dramatic it's campy it's fun it's silly it's got a FANTASTIC gay character and a gay couple i deeply adore and not to mention!! so much representation!! it's like junior fosters tbh
we're gonna get into a little pocket here of like. normal romance but slightly niche - animes! sasaki to miyano is like my top lgbt anime rec. it is so, SO good. just absolute feel-good romcom goodness pls give it a shot
depending on interpretation, ouran high school host club arguably has a nonbinary character, some bi/gay characters, and a trans character! now. it IS hella dated do not get me wrong. BUT for the time? incredibly progressive and a wonderful watch. just brace yourself for some out of pocket shit
stars align has one of my favorite lgbt characters EVER, a nonbinary icon <3 and it's like. a PLOT. truly so rare to see something like that done on tv, let alone in anime. this is a sports anime - soft tennis my beloved - but it has So Much More To It than that.
another gay sports anime is run with the wind, a recent fave of mine. and i don't mean gay in the way that most sports animes are kinda gay. i mean he literally says 'im in love with this guy.' it's an amazing watch if you like that kinda thing!!
if you want an aroace genderfluid protag. the disastrous life of saiki k is up there as one of my fave animes ever AND saiki (the main character) is my fave protag of all time. this silly lil show is supernatural (ish?) and comedy all wrapped into one fantastic show i highly recommend!!
segueing back into live action shows, buffy the vampire slayer is an AMAZING, iconic, female-led supernatural dramedy with some early and, for its time, incredible lesbian rep.
yellowjackets because i LOVE unhinged lesbians. i didn't even know there was gay people in this - i started watching because i love horror and girls' soccer DLNKFNFLN and it's amazing!! if you like tragic gay women i HIGHLY endorse yellowjackets.
in the flesh. look. here's my pitch for itf. do you love being sad. do you love catharsis. do you love zombies. you will LOVE in the flesh. please. i miss it so bad i've seen this show 4 times (and you're right i should also watch this one again!!!) and i never tire of it.
sense8 is a sci-fi show and IT IS EVERYTHING TO ME. truly the diversity is unparalleled. so many lgbt characters of so many different identities. polyamory, trans people, a neuro-link that's destroying peoples' lives. it literally has everything.
the get down is not just an lgbt show, BUT it has an incredible lgbt character/storyline that i adore. a musical show, a historical fiction piece (which means a lot coming from me), and almost every character is a poc. pls give it a shot it's everything
bodies is another one that isn't just about lgbt+ rep BUT. it's incredibly diverse, examining people facing discrimination throughout history (you've got a gay mc, a jewish mc, a muslim mc, AND a disabled mc) and it just has such amazing plot lines and representation. it's a murder mystery/sci-fi double whammy, so give it a shot if you're interested!!
movies:
alex strangelove is a good, underrated, coming of age classic. it follows a guy who struggles with his sexuality. very teen rom-com-dramedy core!!
i adored boy meets girl when i watched it. a very romcom-y movie about a trans woman from a small town dreaming of getting out....... friends to lovers.......... i adore it
happiest season is a christmas movie and it's very sweet. its been panned (there are some just criticisms on the plot tbf) BUT i do think it's really cute
to wong fu thanks for everything julie newmar is just. so so good. it's an underrated classic imo. three drag queens go on road trip, end up in a small town, and change it for the better. it's literally so amazing it's just feel good found family PLEASE give this one a shot
the birdcage is another classic i so genuinely enjoy. who doesn't want robin williams and nathan lane as their gay dads. at the end of the day it's all about found family, love, and old gay men.
handsome devil is a foreign film - irish to be exact! - and i love it so much. once again as a catholic school kid.......... yeah. YEAH. anyway go watch the og gay nicholas galitzine movie LKNDKFNKNLFNKLF
pride is a historical piece and an excellent movie. it's got its ups and downs but god it's just an overall good movie. another irish film, coincidentally!
the way he looks is also a foreign film, this time in spanish, BUTTTTT it's one of my faves i love it so much. it's very feel-good, sweet, romcom so if you feel like you could be into that - give it a shot!!
rent, if you're into musicals, has some of my fave musical characters ever. angel dumott schunard you will ALWAYS be the love of my life. it is deeply sad but. other than that. i live in denial.
the prom is a much more light-hearted and silly lgbt musical. people shat on that movie but i think it's SWEET and cute and has some bangers!!
i mean like. we can joke ab how hyped it is all we want but brokeback mountain is basically required gay watching. it is EXACTLY as amazing as everyone says it is. the chemistry..... oh my god we could never make that movie again it was like catching lightning in a bottle.
bodies, bodies, bodies is a fun and campy lgbt horror if you're into that kind of thing!! the ending was a bit not my fave but otherwise it's an incredible cast and got some great silly scares
on the topic of gay horror, jennifer's body is gay and again, exactly as good as everyone hypes it up to be. you want gay women who are terrible to each other? oh boy do i have the movie for you
and i promise ill wrap on gay horror with it chapters 1 & 2. reddie will unfortunately always be famous.
everything, everywhere, all at once is not Just a gay movie BUT. it has an incredible gay character and it factors so interestingly into the mother/daughter relationship. i love that movie i will always talk about it
music (these are all just people i personally listen to but there are SO many more. im not gonna expand on these ones too much just go check em out you'll get it):

Just watched Nimona. Im feeling so notmal rn [lying throught gritted teeth]
I quite literally knew NOTHING when I decided that I will watch it.
Got suprised positively and felt so many feelings so many times. This was so enjoyable and just done with care? I have many thoughts but I dont know if I could put them all into comprehensible words. Just. All topics were handled beautifully.
I literally got attached to characters less than 10 minutes in. Help me
Some Spoilers beyond this Point
The villain. BOY THE VILLAIN. I hate her so much she got what she deserved <4 I loved how she was written. She believed eveything she was Fed. She lived in fear that consumed her and she was willing to kill innocents for that. She went so far she didnt even want to consider going out of her bubble. Also she could be classified as a twist villain, although its easy to figure out it's her. Even if its not a twist for audience its a good twist for characters + she gets so much time to shine too.
The ending. I understand how some people I guess could say its anticlimactic because Nimona comes back [we don't see her but Its pretty clear lmao]. Personally for me its not an issue, she went through so much and deserves to be happy too. And see that people like her now :] Although I wouldn't mind more tragic ending either, it just wouldve hit me with more sadness than a lot sadness -> sudden happiness spike
At the start of the film I was so so glad that Ambrosius wasn't the 'priveledged guy thats an asshole to the main character' and instead they were lovers :] But also at that point said 'I hope there wont be any falling out!'. Top 10 sentences said minutes before disaster
Also if you could've seen my reaction to nimona and gloreth stuff. Boy I went absolutely insane.
On the topics handled well. I think how they handled opression was really good. They showed how it affects everyone. Even the opressed themselves, that try to find a place in such society, try to have Faith in the system that fails them[ commoners, Ballister]. How at the earliest stage possible people are already influenced into such mindsets. How some people are so firmly set in those beliefs they wont even consider they're wrong. And also the worst of opression, violence, and how it not only hurt Nimona physically, but also how it scarred her mentally.
Some negative beliefs were reinforced for so long, and spawned different kind of negative beliefs. And opression
And I think throughout the movie, you REALLY get how ingrained negative beliefs are in everyones minds.
Further to me, the change of this whole kingdom for the better didnt happen too quickly. Trying exposing the Director ended with her quickly swaying people to her side again, when she played the monster card.people so quickly also believed that such a commoner as Ballister would kill the Queen, which probably wouldnt happen if it was someone form the Noble bloodline... okay its not related exactly to what I started talking in this paragraph. Fuck, people had to see how for this belief that monsters are terrible, the one in power is willing to kill them, along with the monster. And in this situation the monster saved them.
Like also those are circumstances that absolutely would lead to a change I think. There were probably some people in denial but I doubt for long? Authority of power and beliefs risked their people's lives with ease when it came to actual danger. Although the focus should have been on protecting the people, as it always was said before, in the end it all went into killing 'the bad'.
[Um i hope I put this into comprehsible words and that I got the meaning I wanted in there]
I enjoyed the animation, design and music too! Also this world was really interesting, medieval combined with futurism. Really neat worldbuilding!
And last thing, comedy was great >:]
Anyway I hope you enjoyed my incomrehensible ramblings. Bows

SephyAthredon-Writing's Whumptober 2023 Summary and Masterlist
Tumblr media
(This is my new Faceclaim, Susato Mikotoba from Great Ace Atorney.)
((I had a lot of fun this Whumptober writing Nimona fics! They've been a lot better received than a lot of my other fics from my past Whumptobers, so I just want to say thanks to the fandom here!
Thank you for your comments and likes both on here and on Ao3, they really mean a lot to me!
So, I only got 9 fics done which is less than my personal record of 12 but more than I did last year (7). Overall I was pretty stressed this month so I'm happy I was able to get this much done, and I have ideas for other fics to put on my Ao3 that aren't Whumptober related. Maybe I'll finally do some Whumptober leftovers too.
For those of you that are waiting for the next chapter of "Watch It All Fall" I plan to get started on that soon now that I'm not doing Whumptober stuff. I haven't forgotten about my non Nimona stuff either.
My personal favorites this year are "Can you Hear me Now?" (which got a piece of fanart made for it), "Shock to the System", and "Slipping Through the Cracks".
Okay, I'm done rambling now XD Here's the list of all my Whumptober entries for this year.))
Slipping Through The Cracks
The night before the Knighting Ceremony, Ambrosius just wanted to have dinner with the love of his life. What he didn't expect was for the excitement around the ceremony to lead people to swarming him and asking him for autographs. He quickly gets overwhelmed. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompt “But now this room is spinning while I’m trying just to fill in all the gaps.”
2. Identical
Ambrosius finds himself in a Kingdom unlike his own with a Ballister that goes by Boldheart, not Blackheart. When a fever begins to set in, will he be able to trust this man that's so different from the one he knows, yet shares the same name? Also Nimona is there and she scares him. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompts "Delirium" and "“I’ll call out your name, but you won’t call back.” I plan to update this with a chapter 2 featuring Movie Ambrosius and Ballister Blackheart!
3. Locked In These Chains
Ambrosius wakes up chained to the wall in an empty cell, only to find out he's not alone. Ballister is in the cell next to his and a mysterious woman soon pays him a visit, calling him a heretic and a traitor to Gloreth's name. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompt "Make it stop."
4. Shock To The System
After Ambrosius' mess up at the marketplace, the Director decides to take matters into her own hands. He's allowed to keep heading the expedition to arrest Ballister, but now there's a new piece of jewelry around his neck. What seems like a new piece Ambrosius added to his wardrobe turns out to be a shock collar which the Director will not hesitate to detonate, should she feel he's straying too far from Gloreth's light. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompt "Shock".
5. When Everything Is Said And Done
Ambrosius doesn't find Ballister at the end of the movie, instead, Ballister finds him crushed under the rubble from the wall and he helps the other Knights that survived the cannon explosion dig him out. An entry for Whumptober under the Prompt "Debris".
6. I'd Do Anything For You
An unmarked package arrives at the Institute's barracks and by chance, someone from Ambrosius' class stumbles upon it first. It has nothing but a flash drive in it. When Ambrosius sees that Ballister has been captured and the video on the drive is a ransom video, it spurs him to rescue the other. After all, he'd do anything for the man he loves. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompt "Recording"
7. Can You Hear Me Now?
After the Knighting Ceremony, Diego pulls Ambrosius aside and shows him the proof that he needs to know that Ballister is innocent. He goes off in search of Ballister but by the time he finds him, it's too late. An entry for Whumptober under the prompt "Can you hear me?"
8. "Are You One Of Us?"
A peaceful night at home for Ambrosius gets plunged into chaos when people show up at his door intent on dealing with Gloreth's Descendant on their own. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompt "Outnumbered"
9. So This Is How It Feels To Fall
Both Ballister and Ambrosius’ lives had begun to spin out of control when they realized that they had been caught having an intimate kiss in Ambrosius’ room by someone discreetly taking a photograph and what was supposed to be a private intimate moment was plastered on the front page of the newest issue of “GARD” magazine. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompt "You're a Liar"

This may not be a popular opinion on tumblr, but I'm really sick and tired of seeing people say they want John Lasseter back. Like yeah, maybe the films feel different now, but Lasseter is both a terrible worker and likely a terrible person. He's been accused of "sexual misconduct, he fired the original director of Brave and gave us the cliched mess we got in the final product, and his coworkers who worked with him on Luck also called him out for some incompetent work at Skydance like sleeping on the job and like with Brave, also changed what could've been a better story for Luck. Not to mention, he directed Cars 2? And was still in charge of Pixar when it was already getting backlash for most of its films of the 2010 era? Are you people seriously going to pretend like 2010s Pixar was perfect just because the Toy Story guy is gone? Y'all straight up bullshitting.
I see this same shit with Justin Roiland. Even though the domestic violence has been seemingly debunked, he still groomed minors and was toxic to work with. Yet people ignore all of that because he made their favorite cartoon. Yes, I may not have any hope for Rick and Morty at this point because the guy that made the first two seasons worth watching is no longer there and will stay away from the show for the foreseeable future, but saying you want the creator back after all the bullshit that has been pretty much proven with him is really gross and blatantly ignorant.
But back to Pixar, I do understand that Pixar does feel different with John Lasseter gone, both in good ways and bad ways. Good because they're making more original movies, but bad because I am not fond of the new skrunkly cartoony style they're using for films like Luca, Elio, and Turning Red. I know they're trying something new, but it looks like a mix of Sony and Aardman so it's not something groundbreaking like Spiderverse and Nimona. I wouldn't say that their stories are better than the 2010s era for the most part except for Soul, which was a good movie. I think what Pixar needs at this point is to distance themselves from Disney and maybe get some better people to helm the studio. I don't think Pete Doctor is really doing a great job right now and maybe he should get back to directing? Maybe being chief creative officer is too much for him. He also clapped back at the negative reviews for Lightyear and Elemental instead of understanding the viewpoints of the audience. I'm glad to see some new workers working at Pixar, but I do wish we got someone who can help the writers tell and structure stories better. I think a lot of that problem falls on Disney, though.
Just to say, I like the concepts of some of the new pixar films like Luca and Onward, but the execution turned out to be really bland.
