The villain appears around the corner at a run, their hair still wet and their coat ridiculously crumpled. The hero raises an eyebrow at them as they practically skid to a halt in front of them.

“Sorry I’m late,” they say between ragged breaths.

“You’re fifteen minutes late,” the hero points out with a pointed check of their watch, “to your own crime.”

“To my crime?” the villain echoes indignantly. “Why would you invite me to my own crime?”

That barely makes sense to the hero. They root through their pocket and shove a tiny piece of paper in the villain’s face.

The villain’s eyes scan over the paper with an increasingly confused frown. “You told me to meet you here, and I have—even though you were, y’know, fifteen minutes late.”

“[Hero],” the villain says slowly. “This isn’t my writing.”

All accusations lining up in the hero’s mind grind to a halt. “Excuse me?”

“This– This isn’t my writing,” they repeat a little more intensely. They rummage through their coat for a moment, slapping a scrap of paper against the hero’s chest. “Did you write that?”

The hero pries the little piece of paper open.

meet me at the back of the bank at 6:30pm. not a fight. - Hero

“I didn’t write that,” the hero says automatically.

“What the hell is going on?” the villain demands. It seems to be aimed more at the air than the hero, but they feel inclined to answer regardless.

“I don’t know,” they say uselessly. “Someone wanted to bring us together. They knew we’d answer each other.”

They gesture with the note for emphasis. “Jesus Christ,” the villain says flatly. “It’s a two-for-one deal. We’re going to die.”

“We’re not going to die, [Villain],” the hero snaps, but the way the villain is glancing over their shoulder is making them want to do the same. 

The villain’s face twitches into some kind of horrible acceptance of fate for a moment. They open their mouth, their breath misting in the evening air as they gear up to probably say something stupid, but a voice cuts them off.

“Isn’t this a nice little gathering?” the henchman says brightly. “I’m glad you both came.”

Why is it that some days I feel like I’ve accomplished so much as far as meeting goals on my WIP. And other days I look at the word count, the page number, chapter that I’m working on and I feel so behind Ive said before that I don’t know why about I’ve been feeling the pressure of some imaginary deadline.

Today I think I’m going to try writing in a new environment.

Maybe if I’m in a different space with a different atmosphere it would change the vibes. Some times it’s as simple as sitting in a different room instead of at my desk. This time though I think I’m going to have to out of my usual work space and try getting out to a cafe? Maybe a book store (there’s a few near me with tables and chairs in side and outside). Maybe today I’ll try the library.

There’s just something about being surrounded by old books,

The atmosphere, the smell of all the old books. There’s something really comforting about it. The shelves of works from the most treasured children’s books to copies of some one the most famous works in the world. I don’t go to the library often, I haven’t been to my local library since last summer with my kids, but it really is one of my favorite places. I think libraries feel nostalgic to me because most days after school I went straight to the library to get my homework done, to find new books to read, to try new genres, to find the next adventure that was going to be my new escape.

So yes. I think I’ll try the library today. :)

Hounds of Corduff Magic System

The Basics

The following is as brief as I can stand to explain the magic system used in my series, Hounds of Corduff. I will be posting more detailed descriptions later but I realized that trying to fit it all into one post would be too much.

The world is made of spores, think of spores as molecules. Some people are born with the ability to sense these spores, as a sixth sense, this is called SporeSense. Those who choose to pursue training in this skill and eventually manipulate spores to have different properties are called Cruth.

To manipulate a spore's property is called casting, so for example, if you were to take a spore with the property of water and change it to have the property of fire, this would be called firecasting. Some spores are more difficult to change than others. The easiest spores to manipulate are those of the air, which are considered to have an empty property. In some cases, such as with earthcasting, even manipulating empty spores can be difficult.

You cannot manipulate spores that have already been manipulated by another Cruth. For example, normally you could manipulate fire spores into wind if you wanted to quickly extinguish a fire, but if those fire spores were casted from empty spores by another Cruth, your manipulation would have no effect. You can still sense those spores but you cannot cast them a second time.

Also, you cannot manipulate the spores that are on or inside another person's body, with the exception of bloodcasting and spacecasting. This includes anything that is connected to their body, including clothes and weapons, you also cannot manipulate the spores of their breath as it escapes their body.

There are ten types of basic manipulations (there are also specialty manipulations but let's keep it simple). They are listed here from easiest to hardest to learn: light, dark, wind, fire, water, earth, acid, lightning, blood, and space.

FAQ:

Can I comment on tumblr or only on AO3?

Either one is great! Some squares are more designed with AO3 in mind, but most can be adjusted to suit tumblr as well, so I say go for it. Tumblr fics deserve love, too.

Can one comment count toward multiple squares if the fic fits more than one category?

Since the goal is for as many fics to receive comments as possible, try to comment on a different fic for each square.

Is there a time limit?

Nope! Take your time or set your own deadline, whatever works for you. This blog is still in its early experimental stage, so feedback welcome. Play around and let me know what you like and what might be added/changed—including ideas for squares on future cards!

Do I have to record progress on the actual card?

Nope! If it’s easier to keep track in a different way, that’s fine. This is all very honor system, so if you say you earned a Bingo, we’ll call it a win 🎉

Some people have been tracking not just completed tasks, but the fics they read along the way, so that when they post a bingo, they can also promote the fics/authors in a little rec list. Not required, but definitely cool to see!

Can I adjust the task in a particular square to suit my comfort level?

Of course! If you deliver something in the spirit of the task, then it’s all good. Use your best judgement in constructing a comment that will make the author smile, and you can consider it a job well done.

In general, so long as each square has produced at least one comment, you’re golden and I salute you 🫡

I see you and i raise you: panicked Moon comforting panicked Sun ;D

For full context, this would be set right after their separation when Moon has just woken up. Sun came online after Moon was removed from his head and he panicked, went into a frenzy scaring off the staff possibly even injuring one or two in his efforts to get Moon's chip back.

And while he is not programmed to work the parts and service machine it's amazing the things one can do when panicking and desperate. But he can't get Moon back into his own head because that would require someone else manning the machine so he gets one of, if not their only spare endo thats available (not counting Eclipse who is in the basement currently)

Moon wakes up, starts to panic because he can't sense Sun but then Sun is right there in front of him, in a very frantic and shaky state. Confused, scared and not knowing whats going on Moon just holds onto him and plays his music box, though the tunes are out of note because he hasn't fully calibrated to this new body.

They'd remain this way for a long time before getting Moon fully dressed (he actually wouldn't have any clothes here but i didn't have the energy to draw all the robot details lmao) and then they'd head back to the daycare.

He got it because when he got scratched by the werewolf in Kingdom of the Wicked, he never ended up getting it healed and the supercharged magic from the original werewolf festered in the wound and caused an 'infection' and thus, a change!
