Can you read an analog clock?
spurred by a discord discussion about being able to read an analog clock at a glance being an Old skill versus needing to do maths/needing numbers on the clock face to make sense of the time as a younger person surrounded by digital clocks.
satisfy my curiosity whether this is really a Generational Skill and tell me...
plz reblog for bigger sample size etc etc

So I’ve recently realized that a lot of people with adhd (at least those that I know) struggle with reading analog clocks, and I’m wondering if this is an actual thing or not… so;

Early Childhood - Clock Work
Understanding time is a complex skill that is critical for everyday life. The Montessori Clock material simplifies the complexities by concretely representing the hours and minutes in a visual and tactile manner, helping children understand the passage of time. Using the 5-bead chain for the minutes and whole, half, and quarter hour fractional pieces, provides a hands-on approach, helping children transition from concrete to abstract thinking.

I miss there being clocks everywhere, outside, especially in cities, especially analog.
"But everyone has a cell phone! We don't need buildings to have clocks!"
And to that I say bullSHIT. What if my phone died? What if it's cold and I don't want to take out my phone? What if I left it at home? Or don't own one? Or just wanted to go without looking at it? What if I'm holding a child's hand and they ask me what time it is and I want to use it as a teachable moment to explain how the hands of a clock work and what the numbers mean? What if I just miss the aesthetic of cities coated in time? Bring back public outside clocks, you cowards.

How the Geneva Drive (the mechanical step that makes the second hand on a clock work by turning constant rotation into intermittent motion) works.

Clocks are sentient and have varying levels of it. It doesn't matter what kind of clock it is, if it tells time it bears some sentience. Some of it is conditional and a lot of it is malevolent but it's true. Here's some small observations from me (the sentience I mention here is just my own vibe reading, I don't mean to insult your bugs or fish. I will do digital clocks and more in depth on analog clocks another time.
So right off the bat:
Clocks with the faces AF01, AF02, AF09 are at most not sentient or have the sentience of a fish. Like, not at all present. Same can be said for AF03 and AF04.
Clocks with the faces AF10, AF11 and AF08 are adjacent to the fish clocks but are more like insects. Maybe smarter? You fixate on them more. Bugs.
Clocks with the faces AF12, AF05, AF06 and AF07 are definitely sentient but are on the end of ambivalent sentience.
ANY clock with Roman Numerals instead of numbers is automatically on the far end of "Absolutely sentient and malevolent as all hell"

Telling Time on Two Clocks
Every year, the majority of my self-contained sixth grade students enter my classroom unable to tell time on an analog clock.  I notice most students struggle with correctly identifying the minutes because they are confused with the hours. This  unique “sticky” teaching strategy uses two color-coded  clocks (hour clock/red and minute clock/blue).  As skills progress, the practice does too. The…
