Sidekick Journal Setup

Wanted to make some notes on how I set up the newest version of my sidekick journal. It's still an A6 Leuchtturm 1917 notebook- though this time I'm using a dot grid, not ruled, version. Still using a Traveler's Notebook Monthly insert in the back as well. Past that, I've adapted it to loosely use the PARA framework by Tiago Forte that I've had luck using with my digital notes.

Much like last time, I still have a today card for tasks on the front. Some days I pick some out at the beginning. Some days I just write things down as I go. Not much has changed there.

It's worth noting that this journal springs open if I don't keep the strap on it. I use the strap to notch in a gel pen (currently trying to find one of my spare fountain pens to use instead). I don't personally mind this but I know it bugs some others.

On the back side of the front cover, things have changed more. I still have a next card to jot down tasks that don't need done today that come up throughout a day, but underneath is the P in PARA - projects.

Each project gets it's own card. I like this because things were getting lost in my notebook and I can more easily see what I've committed to so I don't overcommit. Tiago Forte recommends 10-15 projects but I am disabled and have issues with energy so I shoot for 5-10. I think currently I have 9 which is a little on the high side.

They all fit nicely under the black clip here and I can shuffle through them each day to see what I want to work on.

I have a To Read, To Watch, To Listen (podcasts), and To Listen (music). I occasionally have people recommend me things and they tend to get lost in my phone. So this is just a space to jot those down. My complete TBR is still kept in Storygraph atm. My TBW is on Letterboxd (kind of). I don't listen to a lot at the moment but I'm hoping to change that.

For the first A in PARA - Areas - I set up topical indexes. I know a lot of people tend to have a lot more but I group my stuff under Personal, Home, Work, and Ria (my partner). Personal is just me. Home is anything shared with Ria. Work is mostly writing and freelance projects at the moment. Ria is for anything that is just for Ria. Anything that doesn't fit in the categories goes in the main index that comes preset up in the notebook.

This way I can jot down whatever notes I want in this notebook but when I'm looking for something specific or just want to see what's going on in a given area, I can flip to that index.

This is just an example of the kinds of things I tend to use this notebook for. I did a menu plan and wrote down the order of steps to make a new dish I wanted to try (came out really nice). It's mostly to just order my thoughts and help my brain let go of things.

This is the Traveler's Notebook Passport Size Monthly Insert I really enjoyed last year. I've set up the first few months and will set up a few more. I need to go back in and add events/holidays.

A big reason why this still felt necessary is that I'm looking at switching to a dumbphone which means I won't necessarily have access to Google Calendar on the go. So I plan to keep this as up to date as possible. I might use it for some light memory keeping as well.

Lastly, I flip the notebook upside down from the back and this is where my commonplacing will go which will be how I manage the R in PARA - resources. I have 3 categories I tend to like jotting down information about to start with but there's room for more. I won't keep the markers with me but will periodically add circles for ease of reference.

For the last A in PARA I'm planning on storing these in a nice box when I'm done with them.

I don't really intend to journal in this though I suppose I could. I have a separate "bullet journal" that in all honesty I don't use super often. I do stream of consciousness journaling on 750words.com. It's mostly to jot down notes and get things out of my head quickly. I like that it's small enough to toss into most bags.

Analoga vivo - inter ŝatateco kaj taŭgeco

Mi ne ekŝatis analogaĵojn pro iu modo, ĉar subite fariĝis ŝika uzi tion, mi eĉ ne estas ulo kiu sekvas kion certa grupo faras por ne esti vidata kiel discentra; verdire mi nur eksciis pri la subkultureca aĉetemo de analogaĵoj post kiam mi serĉis pri la vivmaniero, ĉi-jare.

Mi pensas ke mi povas spuri mian ŝaton por analogaĵoj de antaŭ jaroj, proksimume 10, kiam mi serĉadis fotojn kaj aĵojn de la 80-aj jaroj. Mi ne scias kial mi ŝatis, kaj ŝatas, tion, malgraŭ ke mi asocias tion al anemoio. Sed montriĝas ke mia ŝato ne estas nur vidi tiajn aferojn, rigardi la fotojn, sed ankaŭ posedi tiutempajn aĵojn: antaŭ kelkaj monatoj, mi ekvolis ciferecaĵojn anstataŭigi per analogaĵoj.

Verdire, mi ne ŝatus havi analogaĵojn pro la anemoio, almenaŭ ne rekte; la volo estas pro la aĵoj mem, mi ilin ŝatas pro la funkciada maniero, né pro la etoso kiun ili havas pro la tempo kie ili estis uzataj. Sed mi menciis anemoion ĉar mi vere kredas ke estas ligo inter ambaŭ aferoj, tial ke ambaŭ rilatas al pasinteco, arkaeco. Kaj, kial ne, ene de ĉio ĉi estas mia ŝato al antikvaj lingvoj... Fine mi trovis ujon por ĉi tiaj aferoj, ujon kies nomon mi ankoraŭ ne havas.

Baskulo por la anstataŭigema volo, mi povas diri, venis kiam mi ekvidadis pri NAS-servilo, kiam aperis la neklarigebla kaj nekomprenebla agrableco scii ke ĉiu datumo estas konservita en durdiskoj. Ne solidstata disko; eĉ se ankaŭ ĝi konservas ĉion en si, scii ke durdisko manipulas ĉion per laŭvorta disko kaj kapetoj, ke granda parto estas meĥanika, ve, la sento estas tre alia. Estas malfacile klarigi la senton, estas kiel klarigi la guston de via plej ŝatata manĝaĵo al iu kiu neniam ĝin manĝis - kaj senkonsidere ke oni gustumas malsame ol la aliaj. Kvankam mi diris ke analogeco estas interagi kun realaĵo, ke ĝi estas fizikaĵo, ĉu ankaŭ la samo ne estas, iel, ciferecaĵo, tial ke fine ĉio estas rezulto de fizikaj realaj aferoj? Ĉi tio tamen estas parolado por alia afiŝo, ĉar, malgraŭ ke estas vera ĉi tio, ial la sento ne estas la sama.

Ampleksigo de la termino "analoga"

Kio estas analoga vivo laŭ vi? Kion vi pensas legante la terminon "analoga vivo"? Ĉion ĉi mi diros surbaze de intuicio, ĉar mi ne profunde scias pri tio: ĉu "analoga vivo" ne rilatas al aparatoj nur? Tio signifas ke, se mi diras ke mi volas analogan vivon, mi diras ke mi anstataŭigos ciferecaĵojn per analogaĵoj kaj jen ĉio.

Ĉiuokaze, pri kio mi parolas ĉi tie estas pli ampleksa, rilatas al signifo de "analogeco" kiun mi, serĉante pri tio, vidis: io ajn kio ne estas cifereca estas analoga. Tio signifas ke skribi per skribmaŝino anstataŭ per komputilo estas analogaĵo, sed per papero kaj krojono ankaŭ estas; pentri per peniko kaj pigmento anstataŭ per programaro ankaŭ estas analogaĵo; kroĉetadi estas analogaĵo, ludi pianon estas analogaĵo. Ajna ago kie vi ne uzas ciferecaĵon analoga estas.

Malgraŭ ke komence mia ideo estis aparata anstataŭigado nur, mi ŝatis la ampleksan ideon de analoga vivo. Mi verdire jam havis emon pri mana agado. Kaj ĉi tio memorigas min pri alia ŝato mia kiu estas pli simpla, eksterurba vivo (ĉi tio facile videblas per kion mi ĉi tie reblogas). Ĉi tio devas esti alia afero kiu taŭgas en tiu "ujo" kiun mi menciis antaŭe. Mi vere volas nomon por ĝi.

Mi eksciis ke eĉ estas la termino ciferecminimumismo, certe pli uzata kaj produktivsentiga. Ne estas la sama afero, sed eĉ tiel certe kreas komunaĵon kun analogviveco. Alivorte, ŝajnas ke la emo al tia vivmaniero, necifereca, estas pli ofta ol penseble. Ciferecminimumismo tamen sonas al mi pli kiel solvo por tiuj problemoj kun sociretejoj (troatento por ŝatoj, vidoj, longtempa poŝtelefona uzado), prokrastado, ol ŝato al neciferecaĵoj, kvankam mi ne diros ke ĉiuj kiuj uzas la terminon "analoga vivo" ankaŭ ne sekvas la vivmanieron samkiale.

Kion anstataŭigi

Sed montriĝas ke por mi kaj ne estas tiom da aferoj anstataŭigeblaj kaj estas aferoj neanstataŭindaj. Mia cifereca agado estas simpla, malmultnombra, ne estas tiom da diverseco. Mi per studado, Jutuba spektado, pensa skribado kaj aŭdovidredaktado povas resumi kion mi faras ciferece. Kvar aferoj entute. Sed eĉ ne estas la malalta kvanto kio plej malĝojigas min, sed tio ke mi ŝatus analogigi aferojn neanalogigeblajn.

Mia studado estas per interreta serĉado. Anstataŭigi tian studadon estas alivorte aĉetadi librojn kaj librojn, kio estas tre malfeliĉe mone neebla por mi, krom la reteja artikoloj, kiuj ne ekzistas en libro, kvankam mi povas presi ilin. Pri aŭdovidredaktado mi eĉ ne bezonas klarigi: kiel mi redaktus audaĵon ciferecan analoge? La samo pro Jutuba spektado. Solvo freneza estus kiel mi ne scias meti ĉion en VHS-on, aŭ DVD-on... solvo kiun mi plenumus, mi konfesas.

Pensa skribado estas kion mi faras ĉi tie ĉe Tumblr kaj per notilo Obsidian. Jen la sola afero perfekte analogigebla, mi la afiŝojn surpapere skribus reskribonta ĉe Tumblr; la sama refaro plenumeblas por Obsidian. Ha, kiel mirinde estus fari tion per skribmaŝino! Ne ke analogigo devas esti tiel, sed skribmaŝino estas la perfekta paralelaĵo de skribado per komputilo. Sed mi devas iom ŝpari por iun aĉeti. Rutinorganizo estas farebla analoge! nun mi pensis.

Kaj estas io kio estas vere malavantaĝo en analogigado: taŭgecomanko.

Taŭgecomanko

Unu el la aferoj kiun oni diras priparolante la pasintecon estas ke "la mondo funkciis pli malrapide tiam". Estas ĝuste tio, ciferecaĵoj estas nekontasteble pli rapidaj ol analogaĵoj, krom la malgrandega spacuzo. Iri al analoga vivo prenos longan tempon de mia tago. Skribi perpapere, ekzemple, estas tri-, kvaroble pli malrapide ol perkomputile. Ĉi-kaze, estas tiom da aferoj pri kiuj mi povas paroli, ke mi preferas fari apartan afiŝon por ĉi tio.
