Thought too much about industry now I want to lie down and stare at the ceiling while wondering what the hell my dream job is. The more I feel like I'm narrowing down on it the more confusing it becomes

I really disagree with the idea that "hua cheng hates everyone but Xie Lian" because it's more that we just hardly ever get to see him interact with someone he doesn't have personal beef with.
like the people in ghost city seem to genuinely like him. he's known to provide protection to ghosts being hunted by cultivators. he literally *ripped out his eye* to protect a group of random humans. he's not an evil demon king with a soft spot for this one guy. he is genuinely kind to people who aren't Xie Lian sometimes, especially people who exist outside heaven's sphere of "respectability" ie ghosts.
is he rude and abrasive? yes, but there is a difference between being nice and being kind. are his morals dubious? yes, but so is heaven; hua cheng just doesn't try to hide it. Hua Cheng is completely sincere and is transparent about all his actions both good and bad which contrasts him from the cover-ups and false politeness of heaven

there is something to be said about how the two major “socially inferior” characters—wei wuxian and jin guangyao—were shown to be extremely skilled at people-reading and cognizant of the social, hm, dynamics throughout the story. not in the same exact way, of course. wei wuxian’s social competence was about knowing how to approach people and endear them to him and knowing what to ask to receive what he wants, usually in terms of information. jin guangyao was amazing at anticipating other people’s needs and what they want to hear and thereby delivering things in a way that would placate them.
i bring this point up because these were two characters granted the least amount of social grace and yet the expectation was that they must maintain the niceties or be deemed singularly arrogant (we see this happen with wei wuxian because he does end up going openly against the sects; where behaviour previously considered unobtrusive is now labelled as attitude problems lol). i mean, while i do commend wei wuxian’s attempt to present his request about the wen remnants to jin guangshan with politeness, it’s also so bafflingly out-of-place in a situation where he’s rightfully calling out the unfair atrocities the wen remnants were being subjected to. jin guangyao’s entire character is built on his specific method of rising through ranks using his honeyed tongue and ability to not let the naysayers get to him. “son of a servant” and “son of a prostitute” are thrown at them and these tags can reduce everything good they have done for the cultivation society in the blink of an eye because they are, infact, considered to be valid criticism of their character. it’s the dichotomy of it where jiang cheng and nie mingjue and jin guangshan can be crude and aggressive and predatory and receive, at most, hushed criticism but have their authority intact, while wei wuxian and jin guangyao’s very standing is threatened by the callback to their social status. how they are forced to be so aware of people and their ways of thinking and make all these interpersonal considerations while the other characters are allowed to be way less self-aware about their behaviours in social settings because their position was never threatened to begin with. how wei wuxian’s “manipulative” abilities and jin guangyao’s “cunning” were products of their treatment by the cultivation world in the first place.

There's always the argument of "who truly loved their men" when it comes to Franklin or Crozier but the answer is it doesn't matter. Whether Franklin's leading them or Crozier it doesn't matter. They're captains in the British royal navy. Their love for the men is completely conditional. Franklin has David Young transfer ships because Franklin cares more about his own surgeon's opinion. Crozier orders Little to go out in the cold because Crozier cares more about having access to alcohol.
We see David Young, a ship's boy, die an agonizing death. We also see Crozier take Thomas Evans, a cabin's boy, with him to check the ice, even though he could have told him no, and puts him in a situation that gets him brutally killed.
Lieutenant Gore's death is completely overshadowed by Franklin's (and it's Crozier that crosses his name out for Franklin's - overshadowed even on paper). Hornby's death is given the slightest consideration before he is promptly forgotten (as well as the circumstances of his death).
Franklin dismisses Crozier, and Blanky and MacDonald further, when it comes to both the situation of the ice and to MacDonald's medical opinion. Crozier dismisses Little's objection when deciding the lashing punishments, and orders Mr. Johnson to continue even when Mr. Johnson stops during Hickey's lashing and looks to Crozier to end it.
Franklin has the marines set up a trap on the ice for the bear. This is done out of love and grief for Lieutenant Gore. It is also a waste of the marine's physical abilities and needlessly endangers them. Crozier has the men load up the sledges with useless, heavy items over one of the most physically taxing parts of their walk. This is done out of love and care for the men - not wanting them to part with more than they already have. It is also an extreme waste of everyone's physical strength and, again, needlessly endangers them.
Both Franklin and Crozier are shown to care for the crew, and most of their choices come from a place of genuine thought for them. But they're also both very proud and very stubborn characters that end up just repeating the cycle. The end result was always going to be the same for the crew.

"Mind stopping for a quick check before class?"
I've been rewatching Kill La Kill and remembered an old concept I had stored away from last year. That one got scrapped ages ago for being hard to write, so I started on a clean slate for this one. I think if submas were at Honnōji Academy, they'd either be engineering tech for the cable car system linked to the school or they'd work in the disciplinary committee to look after students.
I'm still roughing some details out for this but basically their job is to catch all the students who get absolutely bodied during the plot and run them back to the infirmary so they can come in the next day. When there aren't big fight scenes to deal with, they mostly just patrol the halls to check on students and make sure people aren't hurting each other during school hours. Consider them student health and welfare agents I suppose. They do straightforward work and were granted two star goku uniforms to make sure they had the speed and strength necessary to carry and treat students in a timely manner. Can't have an active student body if it takes weeks to get through patching them all, right?
Anyways I might design a powered up form for these guys later. It likely wouldn't be much different, but it'd be something light for them to operate in. No room for accessories when you're resetting bones and dressing up burns; I might consider having their hats swap out for masks and wide collars for lab coat lapels. It'd be fun to have their enforcement tools get turned into medical/surgical implements too, though that's gonna take some testing.
Bonus time: someone asked for oil. Do not oil them.

i truly don’t want a book from peeta’s POV, but i like to imagine his thoughts run a lot more rebellious than katniss had ever expected and katniss’s own thoughts. because you clearly don’t make a statements like
“Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to… to show the Capitol they don’t own me. That I’m more than just a piece in their Games.”
and the surrounding conversation around it without some deeply philosophical understanding of his place in society and thoughts that would be labeled as treasonous and be cause for punishment by the capitol.
this makes me think of parts in the books where katniss shies away from more critical thinking (i.e., not caring much about the history of the country before the dark days) in favor of thinking of her and her family’s survival. i imagine peeta’s POV would delve a lot more into these ideas and their importance to his role and place as a citizen of panem.

it's amazing how everything is simultaneously overexplained and underexplained. like why didn't they describe the underworld afterlife system? they just namedrop "asphodel" with some vague explanation (and why are they bald trees I'm sorry I could not take that seriously). no jury deciding where you go when you die...they don't introduce the fields of punishment...elysium...isles of the blest...THE RIVER OF STYX...yknow things that are referenced constantly throughout the series. and a fun aspect of the books is the way these elements of greek mythology are written into the modern world/using modern systems (like souls waiting in an EZ line). I always thought the merging of real world/mythological elements was pretty clever in pjo. like where's the fun where's the whimsy

I NEED a formal apology for being weirded out by sterek because I just saw some shit with Tyler Hoachlen talking about how inconsistent his characters age is.
AND UPON REWATCH IT ISSSS!!! At the beginning Stiles openly States Derek is just a few years older than them (presumably 2-3 max), but as the show goes on I SWEAR they start treating this man like he's in his thirties!!
AND I KNOW y'all are gonna mention how Crystal Reed was older than Tyler Hoechlin and it's trueeee, but it's all about the perception. None of them were actually highschool age but we perceived them to be and then Derek just like kept getting older and older.
By the end he was pretty solidly roped in with the adults. In my mind there was the pack (Scott and the gang), the adult pack (parents+ Derek), and the puppy pack (you all know who all that refers to).
Basically my dumbass with short term memory forgot that Stiles literally says Derek is a few years older than him, and I got confused about the legitimacy of these fictional characters relationship.
