more "troublesome" words
adverse, averse
Averse - reluctant or disinclined (think of aversion)
Adverse - hostile and antagonistic (think of adversary)
allay, alleviate, assuage, relieve
Alleviate - should suggest giving temporary relief without removing the underlying cause of a problem. It is close in meaning to ease, a fact obviously unknown to the writer of this sentence: “It will ease the transit squeeze, but will not alleviate it” (Chicago Tribune).
Allay and assuage - both mean to put to rest or to pacify and are most often applied to fears
Relieve - the more general term and covers all these meanings
ambiguous, equivocal
Both mean vague and open to more than one interpretation.
But whereas an ambiguous statement may be vague by accident or by intent,
an equivocal one is calculatedly unclear.
amid, among
Among - applies to things that can be separated and counted, amid to things that cannot.
Rescuers might search among survivors but amid wreckage.
amoral, immoral
Amoral - describes matters in which questions of morality do not arise or are disregarded;
immoral - applies to things that are evil.
antecedence, antecedents
Antecedence - means precedence;
antecedents - ancestors or other things that have gone before.
antennae, antennas
Either is correct as the plural of antenna,
but generally antennae - preferred for living organisms (“a beetle’s antennae”)
and antennas - for manmade objects (“radio antennas made possible the discovery of pulsars”).
anybody, anyone, anything, anyway, anywhere
Anything and anywhere - always one word.
The others are one word except when the emphasis is on the second element (e.g., “He received three job offers, but any one would have suited him”).
Anybody and anyone - singular and should be followed by singular pronouns and verbs.
A common fault is seen here:
“Anyone can relax, so long as they don’t care whether they or anyone else ever actually gets anything done” (Observer).
So long as they gets anything done?
The problem, clearly, is that a plural pronoun (they) is being attached to a singular verb (gets).
Such constructions may in fact be fully defensible, at least some of the time, though you should at least know why you are breaking a rule when you break it.
avenge, revenge
Generally, avenge - indicates the settling of a score or the redressing of an injustice. It is more dispassionate than
revenge - indicates retaliation taken largely for the sake of personal satisfaction.
a while, awhile
To write “for awhile” is wrong because the idea of for is implicit in awhile.
Write either: “I will stay here for a while” (two words) or “I will stay here awhile” (one word).
awoke, awaked, awakened
Two common problems are worth noting:
Awoken, though much used, is generally considered not standard. Thus this sentence from an Agatha Christie novel (cited by Partridge) is wrong: “I was awoken by that rather flashy young woman.” Make it awakened.
As a past participle, awaked is preferable to awoke. Thus, “He had awaked at midnight” and not “He had awoke at midnight.” But if ever in doubt about the past tense, you will never be wrong if you use awakened.

Trump's arrest and mugshot were to just distract us from the fact that Chris Chan's charges against forcing himself on his dementia-ridden mother were dropped and that he won't even be on the SA registery after the fact that he's been let go. He also has a brand new Twiiter account.

MAAAAN THESE SUKUNA ANALYSES... THEY'RE SO GOOD... I've always related to him super hard just on first readings as a trans disabled person who is an ambulatory wheelchair user. I'm incredibly violent and confrontational, too. If I could just fuckin kill the people who dehumanize me constantly, I mean... that kind of power is tempting! The way you read him is so satisfying to my brain, and it definitely makes sense in the text as well. Overall I'm just really happy to see somebody managing to put into words what I subconsciously grasped the first time I watched and read JJK. I was literally internally like "omg omg omg they put it into words!! omg!!!" the entire time I've been reading these posts. I can't wait to see what other analysis posts you've made and if there's other stuff for fandoms I enjoy. Thanks a lot for what you do! People like me appreciate it so much.
Oh thank goodnesss you feel this way. Everytime I post always I think of this image.
Tumblr media
Thank you for confirming I'm still at secret esoteric knowledge.
Sukuna is very cathartic for me as a character in that way too. He basically gets to act out where I would restrain myself.
It’s funny that you mention you’re trans. At the risk of tipping the scale to mental illness, I think Sukuna is a very gender character. I find his refusal to introduce himself very relatable. He just kind of lets everyone call him whatever. The only time he ever identifies himself is when not doing so could put in his life in danger.
Tumblr media
That’s it. “I’m the Fallen/Disgraced One”. I don’t believe he ever refers to himself as a man either. He just uses a masculine speaking style.
I also like how he doesn’t seem to care about being associated with feminine things. The marketing leans into this for some reason, pairing him up with Hello Kitty, which I think is great.
Tumblr media
He projects this “I’m too strong to care about gender” aura I’m obsessed with. It might stem from his dehumanization as well. Both himself and other people are not really sure if he’s a curse or a human, so why on earth would he outwardly identify as man? It's not like curses have genders to begin with.
But the moment anyone tries to concretely observe him, like Mahito or Yuji touching his soul, he flips out. That really captures the vibe of “acknowledge my existence, but do not perceive me.” And if you find that relatable you should read Umineko.
Tumblr media
Sukuna is on the border of everything, so he reads like an allegory for multiple minority groups all at once.
He’s masculine in his presentation, but isn’t considered human enough to be called a man. That’s very trans of him.
He’s extremely ablebodied at a glance, but his abnormal features make normal day to day life a constant battle. That’s very invisibly disabled of him.
He may be Japanese by blood, but he’s deemed a monster and pushed out from society for not meeting certain physical features. That’s very biracial of him.

After seven decades I finally finished all the refs for the clones you’ll see here. I revamped the OGs to make them a bit more distinguished. Plus we got a few new faces in the mix.
I’m also reopening asks, feel free to sling your queries/interactions/threats at these freaks.

yknow i love transmasc/tboy dirk always and forever but the way some ppl treat transmascness vs transfemmeness in HS's narrative........kinda sucks. like the whole thing about how being transfeminine is a literal transient experience and lets the character in question (any character) truly escape the oppression of HS's narrative-as-a-character which is patriarchal and toxic (lord english, hussie-the-character to an extent. i guess. idk ive seen a lotta ppl lump SI-hussie in w/ this), which is great and does hold weight as an analytical lens esp with how hussie irl is nonbinary. but where does this leave transmasc characters. why are we treating (headcanoned) transfemme HS characters like this and then tbh gleefully dooming (headcanoned) transmasc characters to eternal narrative suffering brought by LE and then mocking them for being ''gross tboys'' full of ''icky testorerone'' so its their fault theyre in this perpetual torment really? because they ''''chose to be a man''''? dunno man its starting to feel bad. especially since some bnf's who are really into this fan theory do actually kinda treat the general idea of transmasculinity like somthing to hold with tongs at arms length away from them. as if its alien or infectous or something and then get really mad when equally dysphoric transmascs do the same with feminity. why are we dooming dirk strider to eternal toxic-masculine suffering and what does that say about how we treat real life transmasc folks both in and outside of the fandom
#my t#basically you arent more or less special or deserving of celebration or joy depending on what pronouns you use#and idk yall gender is such a personal thing and your trans experience def does colour the way you look at the world. it def does mine/ours#and i wish ppl on this site would be more honest about that cause holy hell do some of yall treat eachother like dogshit#PURELY on the basis of identity. you are no better than a TERF if you do this. you ARE a TERF if you do this#but like...........can we all at least TRY not to demonize '''the other side''' here#in quotations because theres no '''other side''' in the trans community we're all just trans in different ways#theres just like. yknow#theres a reason why so many tboys and transmasc folks identify with the striders and dirk especially#and theres a reason why *so many* transmascs felt so much joy abt tboy roxy#so many of our lives pre-transition looked and felt like roxy lalondes. so many of us legit forcefully feminized ourselves#bc the alternative was so fucking scary. as you can probably imagine regardless of what flavour of trans you are#theres also a reason why there are so many transmasc fictives named dirk and dave and idk what to tell these ppl abt that#i remember rlly clearly this affectionate joke like a literal decade ago on this site that was like#daves intro dropped and 1mil tboys named dave materialized into existence#dirks intro dropped and 1mil MORE tboys named dirk materialized into existence#i try rlly rlly hard not to get sour at wlw/nblw focused memes that are like#''i made pepsicola better!!! theyre she/theys now :)'' for example#but its getting increasingly harder to ignore when the same ppl who make these memes treat#fans who prefer m/m *bc they themselves are gay* like shit#or like enjoying m/m because theyre mlm is mysogynistic. which it isnt ffs#that shit gives i am uncomfortable when is not about me and i aint here for that#if i were like these ppl maybe id turn all their fave girls into tboys just to spite them#but it wont be just to spite them bc 1) i aint abt that actually. im too fuckin grown for it and 2)#i genuinely just enjoy exploring m/m and masculinity more because i am a trans mlm. its very simple math

'people should make weirder gender headcanons,' i say, looking at my main group of OCs, of which none of them use they/them except innocence (who is genderfluid)
#you have:#des (he/she bigender man/woman; no preference)#night (it/its; nonbinary butch lesbian [in a gender way])#silver (he/him agender with no gendered terms)#prayer (it/xe; some sort of genderweird)#grace (he/him in a vaguely transmasc way that isn't actually transmasc like he's not. binary. but he's also Not not binary??)#and moth (sae/sem/sair/sies/saeself; some flavor of transfem but in a very nonbinary way)#and innocence doesn't even Primarily use they/them. they cycle through Everything#i just use they/them for them because my brain shits itself if i try to rapid cycle through every pronoun possible#if you have two pronouns i'll alternate when i remember to. three i'll struggle but i'll try#4+ and i will probably give up and stick with one on any given day#i just cannot keep that much in my head and i cannot keep up with innocence's gender fuckery#this is why IWSY is second person! /hj#anyway i'm not biased at all why would you say that /s#IWSY#also yes i included innocence as an OC. let's be real past a certain point if you headcanon for them enough#they become an OC. mx 'has no canon dialogue and is mentioned exactly twice in vanilla and only once more in downpour' innocence#IWSY being second person is only partially a joke because that was a legitimate reason behind like. the design for the innocence of youth#i saw no canon pronouns for innocence and wind and was like. okay how do i write this in a way that completely avoids using pronouns#for innocence that ended up being writing their fic in second person#wind i did a funny thing of manipulating the narration to never use pronouns#i guess you could also say that in a way this influenced my all pronouns innocence and no pronouns wind#but that's not really it for innocence. genderfluidity just felt right for them

WcWd: This OC I introduced but refused to elaborate on a couple weeks ago
Tumblr media
I should start by introducing him: his name is E'lim! I chose it because it sounded partially like "Eli" with a bit of the word "limb" mixed in. TBH I just mash random syllables together when coming up with names (this was moreso the case back when E'lim here was made, but that's still part of my naming process sometimes)
I mentioned that he usually wears a more plain attire when he appeared two Wednesdays ago. Well, turns out that I never settled on consistent shoes, either. Here's a couple more pixel art drawings I found of him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's quite a few more (probably unfinished) drawings of this fella hidden within the containers for nigh every medium I used around 2019-2021. After that? Not sure what happened, but suddenly I didn't like him. Like, I think he'd be more appealing as a character if his arms were noodley but I always drew them so stiff as though they had bones and it looked weird.
Looking back, I didn't have a good enough grasp of how to make this type of character: noodley limbs that definitely don't connect to the rest of the body in an anatomically correct way, oversized shoes that will inevitably result in cursed imagery if taken off, gloves that are likewise over-inflated and never to be removed... huh maybe I should do a character design study on Sonic characters
I also constantly gave him that stupid-looking smile. It reminds me of the Dreamworks face meme now and I hate it. Now, if I were to redesign this guy? I'd embrace the fact that he's supposed to be stylized, and NOT worry about whether or not he appears to have bones because it seems like that's exactly what I did every single time I drew him and, poor guy, that's not a good look for him 😔
...I wanted to end the post with that paragraph, but then I started typing up the other two-thirds of this post in the hashtags. So here's my rant about the canvas sizes: the "Halloween" one was WAAAY too big for starters. There was this whole era of my drawings where I wanted to be able to capture the details that other mediums offer, but I also didn't want to use other mediums because pixel art was what I was best at. I ended up just taking an unnecessarily long time on massive pixel art canvases, all because I had concerns about working in a software like ibisPaint or Procreate. "Pixel art doesn't require brushes, so how would I know which brush to use?" "What on earth is a 'blending mode'?" "I can't draw a straight line for the life of me, and you want me to add weight to them now??" I'm pretty sure most self-taught artists have struggles like those, though; I was just a bit late to it because learning those things wasn't needed in my pixel artist skillset, oddly enough
Anyway. Those two drawings of E'lim with a clipboard are actually some of the last I made, both of him and in oversized pixel art. You might can tell that I was beginning to address all of the problems I've brought up in this post already; the scale on it is smaller than the Halloween drawing, and the face isn't just a widened smile peering directly into the viewer's soul. Regardless I still wasn't proud of how he kept turning out in my drawings (and also didn't fit into my shifting ideas for worldbuilding) so I lost interest in drawing him and he fell out of being one of my main OCs.

✨✨✨
Ah!! Suddenly more sparkles!! Thank you for these, friend!~
(source: this post by dragonsmooch)
Send me ✨ for a random thing about one of my OCs! (Optional: You can specify one!) - ..Okay, there are three of these, so.. may I use one for each of my trio of KH OCs (who also happen to be fankids for my selfship with Aqua)?
Virga's name refers to a streak of rain or snow that can be seen falling from a cloud, but that never actually reaches the ground; this was what inspired xyr tag. Xe has the most stamina out of the three apprentices, generally being able to outlast the other two in fights pretty well as long as xe doesn't get hit too much. The default form of xyr Keyblade is called Sun Pillar. In terms of xyr personality, I tend to think of Virga as the most level-headed of the trio, calm without being cold (which likely stems from xem being the oldest of the three), but at the same time xe's very imaginative and creative.
Rime's name comes from a type of ice formed when supercooled water freezes onto surfaces. It often looks very feathery and crystalline, hence their tag. Their Keyblade's default form is called Glacialis, and their style of combat focuses a lot on buffs and debuffs rather than direct physical damage - however, their natural light seems strongest out of the three so far. I've been thinking of their personality as quite timid and more cautious compared to the other two, possibly because they're the shortest and maybe therefore also youngest?
Mistral's name is the name of the northwesterly wind of the Mediterranean. It's maestrale in Italian, which links it more directly to its meaning of "masterly", hence his tag. Mistral has the strongest magic out of the three apprentices, and his default Keyblade is called Winterspring. At the moment, I'm thinking of her as the most leader-like of the three (maybe because of his name?) - he's not afraid to stand up for himself or the people she cares about, and is overall decidedly less glum than he tends to look on the outside to those who don’t know him well.
I hope that those responses were alright!! Thank you very much for sending in the sparkles, friend ^-^

You gonna do anything or make any statement about the rampant transmisogyny on this hellsite, especially in cases like predstrogen recently? Or yall gonna stay silent and keep letting/making us get pushed off of it.
I have a number of asks about this, so this is to address all of them, I won't do each individually.
We generally do not comment on individual cases, but because there seems to be mass misinformation around this, I will make an exception and comment on predstrogen.
First, Tumblr has a number of LGBT+ including trans people on staff, and they see things from the inside fully, and they're not protesting this case.
Why do we wrongly have a transphobe reputation? We did have an external contract moderator last year that was making transphobic moderation (and also selling moderation, criminally). As soon as we were aware that person was fired, and we later terminated the entire relationship with that contracting firm and have brought almost everything in-house (at great cost). I have previously commented on this publicly, several times.
I am not aware of any Automattician (people who work at Automattic and Tumblr) who has made any transphobic moderation actions. If it's reported it is investigated immediately, if anything were found that person would be terminated for cause immediately.
Predstrogen's account was suspended for:
Repeated mis-tagging of adult content against Tumblr's community guidelines. This has nothing to do with clothed transition photos, she had 20+ other blogs and multiple accounts with names so explicit I can't post them here without a mature tag.
Multiple cases of harassment of other Tumblr users, not just me.
Multiple threats of violence, not just the one I share below.
These represent a breach of our Terms of Service, and we've exercised our right to refuse service.
Threats of violence are never okay. Threats of violence are not protected speech. We will work with police and FBI where appropriate, though to be clear prestrogen's case hasn't warranted that so far. I'm referring to what we may potentially do for other threats. I just got a death threat yesterday from someone mad about predstrogen, and that account was immediately terminated.
So regardless of whether you still think Tumblr staff is somehow a bunch of transphobes, know that threats of violence or death are still not acceptable and will result in immediate and serious action. Know that when you rile people up, they can do dumb things with possibly permanent consequences.
(2 hours later update: I have changed instances of the pronoun "they" or "their" to "the account" because I am unaware of pronoun preference in this instance and don't want to misgender anyone. Thank you for the people who reported this as an issue. Update 2: "She" is apparently better, the post now says that. Sorry for the mistake.)
Here's one (of many!) examples of the harassment violations, this one targets me but there are others targeting other users on the site.
Tumblr media
The second part seems to indicate she wanted to be suspended, I'm unaware of why, perhaps to create this sort of uproar. I agree the hammers feel silly, but the start, "i hope photomatt dies forever a painful death" is a violation of Tumblr's community guidelines and terms of service.
The car part did hit close to home as I have almost died twice in car accidents.
Update 2: Added this text to the adult content part: This has nothing to do with clothed transition photos, she had 20+ other blogs and multiple accounts with names so explicit I can't post them here without a mature tag.
