Granted I have the overall geographical and cultural knowledge of a 4th grader but from what I can tell the nuclear family model really does seem to be a white colonial invention
Different cultures have different approaches but I mainly hear about either large family units where multiple generations support each other and raise their children and grandchildren together or an "it takes a village" approach where children are raised somewhat communally
And I can't really speak on it much or claim that these families were free of abuse or that children aren't often an oppressed group basically everywhere I know of but the way ownership of your children is so engrained into white society is so bizarre
Like once you notice it you can't unnotice it even the most loving well meaning parents don't know what to do about it because everyone is so isolated from their own families and their own communities so you wind up with 1-2 parents who have full legal ownership of their child and are raised in a culture where you don't have personhood until you're 18 and all attempts at self actualization before them are seen as clueless rebellion. Like our culture is so divorced from the concept that a parent is someone who is helping mentor and care for their child so they can thrive as a fellow human being and it's actually so alarming
And ik this problem isn't unique to white and colonized people but it's honestly really soothing to hear about how other cultures approach and view parenting and community as a whole and to internalize it doesn't have to be this way
#like i was reading a book by Sabaa Tahir who's Pakistani#and the perspective on parenthood portrayed in it so healing#like when Salahuddin mentions that his mom taught him not to thank his parents growing up#''Ama taught me that saying thank you to your own parents is unnecessary. Akin to thanking your lungs for breathing. The times I tried#she looked at me like I’d rejected Saturday-morning paratha.''#and like obviously the idea isn't that your kids should be ungrateful im assuming that it's their behavior and overall respect thats thanks#but as someone who was raised thanking everyone for everything especially my parents no matter what it really stood out bc even little stuff#like that can make a huge difference yk? since I can remember white adults particularly my parents taught me i was a burden#and that their taking care of me was an act of kindness rather than a responsibility and I don't think it's some big conspiracy to make kids#feel horrible but it's not really teaching gratitude it's just teaching guilt#thats just one example tho#I also am at the extreme end of white cultural isolation (neither of my parents are close to their families we've never lived near them and#they specifically isolate us from everyone so the difference is a lot more drastic for me than it probably is a lot of other people#but when i hear ppl being close to their neighbors or anyone that lives near them i go a little insane with longing tbh#like what is that like? to grow up in an environment where your world is more than just your parents approval?#where there's some kind of insulation between you and all of your parents problems bc there is no one else#this was not a ramble with any kind of conclusion tho akehrjdhr#and once again I am absolutely not saying that child abuse is uniquely white bc. el em ey oh thats not how any of this works#it's just that white cultures view on children is sickening

could you do one of balwin waking un cloying and very very affectionate with his wife
You woke up feeling kisses on your cheeks and neck. Your giggled at your husband's affection. Baldwin IV had been extra clingy and affectionate ever since your wedding night. You moaned when you felt him kiss the nape of your neck. You tried looking at him after rubbing your eyes. Baldwin iv smiled affectionately his eyes full of love and whispered "good morning love". He leaned down to kiss your lips but you turned your face away last moment. Baldwin iv was confused by your action.
"My morning breath smells horrible" you whispered. Baldwin IV looked unimpressed by your answer. He held your chin and shifted your head towards his face and began kissing your lips. You sighed while kissing him. He starts kissing you deeper. His tongue playing with your tongue. You start having difficulty in breathing. You held his shoulder tightly due to suffocation. Baldwin iv realising your discomfort he leaned towards your ear and whispered apologies. You finally were able to breath. You then asked him about his royal duties. Baldwin IV whined and said "don't talk about it first thing in morning".
"but it's important you are the king"
Baldwin IV grumbled and leaned on your shoulder hugging you. Nuzzling his nose on your neck. You giggled since his actions tickled you.
Just then a knock was heard on the door. "Your majesty you are getting late council" "We are waiting your decision regarding our next action towards salahuddin". You recognised the voice of one of his advisor who was count of Tripoli. Baldwin IV whined and said "5 more minutes". Tiberis frustrated said "That's what you said last time and took 30 minutes". You gasped hearings his response and quickly shoved Baldwin iv away from you and said "You can't be late for your royal duties for your country". Baldwin IV dissatisfied decided to grab you and push you back in bed but in vain. Both you and Baldwin IV ended up playing cat and mouse game. Where you were the mouse and Baldwin IV was cat. You finally hid behind chair and Baldwin IV tried persuading you by offering you beautiful jewelry and clothes. You shaked your head indicating "No". Just then the door broke and Tiberis walked in looking angry "I swear to god, you took more than five minutes again" "You an hour late for the meeting"
Baldwin IV replied saying "I just got married yesterday". Is it wrong I want to spend more time with my wife". Both you and Tiberis were astonished by his behaviour. Baldwin IV was a man of duty. So this is highly unexpected.
"Should I cancel the council today, it seems like the king might be unwell".
"No" you replied. "He is definitely going" you replied as you pushed both men out of the room.
Baldwin IV grumbled "if only I was a commoner, I could spend a day or two all alone with my wife". Baldwin IV looked back and saw you giving him flying kiss and waving at him. "You better make up for it once I return back" Baldwin IV said this while smirking and you were left with deep blush on your face. Tiberis left embarassed said "What did I get myself into".

He turned slowly, the silver of his mask glinting in the light. Behind the mask, a pair of blue eyes: the left as clear as a crystal, the right cloudy and bloodshot framed by a marred, disfigured eyelid.
"You came" he said almost in a whisper.
"I promised didn't I? " she responded, with a smile on her face. She was the kings childhood best friend who he had finally found again. Before she disappeared she swore to always find him when he called.
"I hear you still enjoy chess. " She sayd her voice soft.
All he could do was stand there, still and frozen as if the time had stopped, then he spoke in a whisper "yes".
The two kept staring at each other as she sat across him on the table. She would have spoken, asked him how he had been, yet from the state of his bandaged body and masked face, she knew.
Then she says "I heard you won a great victory at sixteen."
The king’s brows raised slightly, a flicker of surprise passing across his features. “Strategy and tactics are what ultimately won me the day, despite what the odds were.”
She smiled and proceeded to speak "You think you only won because of that? Salahuddin is a smart man, he has conquered many lands. I believe the Lord was in your side".
The king only looked at the lady before him. Waiting for her to continue speaking.
"If it was not God then something was wrong that day. Salahuddin never acts in rage, he thinks and calculates. Something happened that drove him to be careless" the lady spoke as if she truly was curious as to what had been troubling the Muslim warrior that day.
All Baldwin could do was nod and say "Perhaps you are right. His rage may have blinded him, given me the opening I needed.”
They looked at each other for a moment each gazing into the others eyes.
She broke the silence and said "you do not belong in Jerusalem."
The king’s eyes narrowed slightly, and his head cocked to one side. “What makes you say that?” He questioned, his tone curious rather than angry.
"I know you are a religious man but you are also a leper. This hot climate will bring upon your death faster. " She spoke, her words cutting his heart, yet he knew she was right. The holy city, a hot city in Palestine was no place for a leper.
The king stiffened ever so slightly, and he was silent for a moment. “You are correct.” He eventually muttered. “The climate of Jerusalem is not suitable for those with my illness. The warmer the conditions, the more rapidly the leprosy spreads.”
He looked down at the table, avoiding her gaze. “Unfortunately, I know not where to go. "
"Are you not French? Go to France, visit your home land, and if it does not feel right, go else. You will find home eventually" She said her voice growing quieter towards the end.
A pause, as the king considered her suggestion. “France…” He mused quietly. “I have not been there since.... I do not remember.”
A soft exhale, almost like a sigh, escapes his lips. “I suppose going back is a possibility, but… I am too familiar with the land. I cannot be the warrior in which I was, the king that I am. The people will judge me, and… see me as nothing but leper.”
"It is agonizing isn't it? To have your freedom taken from you for title of king? I bet a man like you would rather be something else. " She spoke quietly, imagining him as a common man.
The king lets out a heavy, exhausted sigh, his head bowing slightly. “Indeed, it is agonizing.” He mutters, his voice thick with the weariness he is so familiar with.
“A man like me…” He repeated the words softly, his tone contemplative. “Perhaps that is true…”
" Your illness made you who you are now, they say yet all I see is a 13 year old boy wanting to play, hoping to marry, hoping to live to a 100.
Yet they are right... You would not have been as smart if the leprosy had not kept you at home, your only entertainment books. Perhaps days come when your body aches, you look at the roof of the bed and wish that you were stupid and healthy. "
The king is silent for a moment, his gaze fixed on the board before him, his mind elsewhere as the woman speaks. He can only see the days in which he spent sitting inside, unable to move about and play and explore as he so desperately longed for as a child. The countless books he’d read, the stories he’d heard and the lessons he’d learned.
The years of sitting in a quiet room in his home, his only company being the books, the teachers, the family. It had been an endless cycle.
"They look at the disease and say you are ugly. I look at your eyes and say you are the most beautiful I have ever seen" Her voice had been now filled with passion and adornment for the man before her.
The king is at a loss for words, left silenced by the woman’s soft, sincere declaration. He stares at her in quiet awe, her statement taking root in his mind and leaving him stunned.
Nobody had ever seen him that way. For years, he’d been shunned and avoided. Called vile and revolting. Hideous, deformed.
He was quiet for several long moments, blinking slowly. “You… think I am beautiful…?”
"The most beautiful." She whispered and laid her hand on his gloved one.

Hello Snow!
I just wanted to say that I loved the new chapter….. I anticipated something good and you did not disappoint us at all🥰🥰
I LOVE the idea of Y/N time travelling to other time period after the cliff scene, I have a bunch of suggestions (Edo/feudal Japan or some sort of British setting would be pretty cool, ngl) Wherever we go to, I know we would be safer than with our crazy (former) Leper King…
anyway, I also wanted to say something else:
Forget Baldwin and Salahuddin, how about Abbas-?😍 (I’m jk I know he’s married but——🙈🙊) I love him sm. Everyone talks about the other two, but I’ll be the first Abbas girlie, even if he’s taken….
Tumblr media
This was me while reading all your juicy words. That’s it.
Well as Guy pointed out- Muslim men can have upto 4 wives at a time, so... (no chance. Abbas is very scared of his loving wife who will beat him up and he loves her too much to be betray her like that) but maybe if his wife died.... we can do something for u bestie <3
idk about edo/feudal japan (because i havent come across any interesting youtube videos) but maybe i can look into it. There will be a british setting. and i can bet 95% will not be able to guess what iconic era id be talking about <3

Miller's Girl (2024)
Tumblr media
I suspect that on another day, my rating for Miller’s Girl would vary wildly from the one I’m giving it now but that’s ok. Sometimes a movie hits you at the right time. There are too many flaws for me to call it "good". It's not "so bad it's good" and it's not a fascinating trainwreck, but it is the kind of movie you keep watching even when you recognize all the flaws.
Cairo Sweet (Jenna Ortega) has to write a college admission essay for Yale University when she realizes she has nothing worth writing down as “her greatest achievement to date”. Her best friend Winnie (Gideon Adlon) suggests having an affair with a teacher - she’s trying to do the same with the school’s gym coach, Boris Fillmore (Bashir Salahuddin). Cairo chooses her creative writing teacher, Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman).
Miller’s Girl is an erotic thriller, though admitting that makes you feel a bit dirty. At first, the film comes off as simply weird. Cairo Sweet lives alone because her parents (whom we never see) are wealthy lawyers working in some faraway country at the moment. Their house is an enormous mansion on the side of a large forest perpetually covered in thick fog. Everyone talks like they’ve been pulled out of a classical novel - not a bad thing, but it does make it feel more otherwordly than it normally would. Combined with the premise and the heavy emphasis on the written word, this film often feels like the novelization of some provocative short story… but it’s an original piece written and directed by Jade Hally Bartlett. Until Cairo decides to tempt Mr. Miller, you don’t think Winnie is seriously trying to seduce Mr. Fillmore so you have no idea where things are headed. Then, we get a clearer picture of Miller’s home life. His wife, Beatrice (Dagmara Domińczyk) is a successful writer that’s too busy for him. He's only written one book and that was years ago. When Cairo gives him extra attention, all sorts of alarms start going off because you think you know where things are going… but you can't say for sure and you're not certain if you should be creeped out or not. In your defense, the film never tells you how old Cairo is supposed to be but Jenna Ortega is 21 and as performers who have to convince us that an affair might happen, she and Freeman have good chemistry.
The thing is, Miller’s Girl is not a romance film; it’s an erotic thriller. Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman may be attractive on their own but when put together, you're supposed to forget that. You’re supposed to dread what might transpire because your pheromones aren't more powerful than your brain. You recognize how creepy a scenario this is. Depending on the scene Mr. Miller or Cairo might be the villain and before you call foul, let me explain. You might think that the teacher is the adult, that he’s completely in the wrong until we learn some things about Cairo that prove she’s a high-school femme fatale - if that wasn’t already clear from the fact that she’s looking to wreck a marriage and destroy a career out of boredom.
Although Miller's Girl kept me invested, there are several aspects of it that I have to call out as being either disappointing or problematic. I once again find myself quoting Promising Young Woman:
“It’s every man’s worst nightmare, getting accused of something like that.” “Can you guess what every woman’s worst nightmare is?”
I’m not going to say that you can’t make a story about some innocent man who gets entangled in a nefarious sex thing by a young woman but your story better be airtight if that’s the subject you’re tackling. Miller’s Girl has plenty of leaks. Even if it was a steel trap for most of its 93-minute running time, the conclusion is unconvincing, unsatisfactory and unrealistic. It’s not conventional - which is something - but that’s not the same as great.
Something about Miller’s Girl appealed to me when I saw it. I know I’m in the minority. I would have a hard time defending myself to anyone who asked me why but it's not like I’m the only person on earth calling it watchable (we'll say that it gets a mild recommendation but a recommendation nonetheless) and I bet I won’t be the only one. Among the events mentioned in the Quran, there's one incident Allah subhanahuwata'ala Tells us about. The fight between armies of Talut and Jalut. When Bani Israel fell into multiple errors, sins Allah subhanahuwata'ala tested them with Tasleet - a form of imposing upon them a tyrant ruler - Jalut. It's said that Jalut and his junood - armies killed, looted and oppressed Bani Israel in every possible way, major of them being snatching the Tawrah and Tabut from them. This lead to them turning back to Allah for aid and the prophethood resumed. The events take a turn and Bani Israel are ready to fight under the leadership of Talut - a wise, pious servant of Allah. Againt being tested for their obedience through a river. Eventually, Believers win the battle being 313 in number against 250k-400k of armed forces, when Dawood Alayhissalam (who wasn't given prophethood at that time) struck Jalut and killed him immediately. And army of Jalut retreats defeated.
This battle is where believers make the Dua "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feets and help us against the disbelievers"
The relevance of this event today is striking. We as an Ummah have failed in obedience to Allah subhanahuwata'ala at so many levels...then how can we expect that we will live in this world victorious and in peace? But for now, we should be grateful that Allah has already blessed us with what we need to overcome the enemy. The Quran and Sunnah. Tawrah (it's copy) was snatched by the tyrants, but we still have Quran in our hands, probably it's still in our shelf, untouched. We don't have to wait for a prophethood to resume because we still have the Sunnah of the Final Messenger Muhammad ﷺ alive within the books. And that's the irony for us, our biggest blessings, biggest source of knowledge, wisdom and guidance are still in the Books and not in our 'aamal.
There's a hadith that states,
“When you partake in usury, hold on to the tails of cattle, become satisfied with cultivation and abandon Jihād, Allah will send upon you humiliation and He will not remove it until you return back to your religion.”
Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)
Sunan Abi Dawud 3462
Look at us...what are we living our lives for?
When the Yahud are preparing themselves to eradicate Muslims because they know it's Haqq that has been sent down to us, we Muslims are ignoring that Haqq. They hold enmity and hatred for us because we are the Ummah of RasulAllah ﷺ, the Final Messenger sent to Mankind but we're ignorant of following the Sunnah of that very Prophet ﷺ
We're so consumed by our Worldly affairs we have forgotten to live feesabeeliAllah. We forgot our purpose. We abandoned the things the Yahud are killing us for. Our Deen. Ironic, isn't it?
But let this be a wake up call for us. To leave off things of temporary world and to work for the Aakhirah. For the Deen of Allah. Let us take the bravery of our brothers n sisters in Palestine as an example to rekindle the faith and courage to live n die for the sake of Allah. If the enemy is preparing for the arrival of False Masiah (Dajjal) so they could stand with him.. We should too, prepare ourselves for his arrival so we could be protected from his fitnah and stand against him in the army of believers.
Instead of wishing for return of Khalid Bin Waleed, Salahuddin Ayyubi (May Allah be pleased with them) why not learn from their life and Instill the same skills within us?
Remember, Allah subhanahuwata'ala says,
"....And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds." (Surah Muhammad Ayah 4)
It's a test for all of us. So gather upon Quran and Sunnah, because therein is our aid. And stand firmly to aid the Deen of Allah. Save your Eimaan and strive to the best of your abilities.
PS : The picture is just for your attention, because apparently we need romanticism in everything when it comes to Deen :)
PS 2: The Dua of believers I mentioned is in Surah Al Baqarah ayah 250. Do read it's Tafseer for full context, I've tried summarising it here.

sorry to keep coming back here lmaojgkdflhf but i started rewatching (bits and pieces of) mann mayal this past week and like. what a phenomenon. was the plot horrible. yes. did it drive all of us crazy with the melodrama. absolutely. is the fact that it was the note ayesha khan decided to end her career on kind of hysterical. i certainly think so. but something about it was nonetheless so enrapturing. the direction and music production definitely contribute to that but i also think for whatever all of the mess was on top i really was transfixed by mannu's narrative arc. like it was powerful! obv it was easy to get caught up in all of the fine details and chastise mannu for her brashness or stupidity but the point was that she had always had decisions taken for her her entire life. to see a female character so stubborn and possessive about her right to make her own decisions regardless of whatever anyone else with "sense" had to say about them bc her agency was that important to her in a societal context of women's oppression.. it was incredibly liberating! and i hate to bring the fairy tale comparisons back but i think esp in contrast to the latter it was empowering bc post time skip salahuddin was in every aspect The Ideal Guy. he cared about mannu, he bantered with her, he protected her, he was eager to guide her, etc. but that was precisely the problem, bc everything was about his protectiveness over her rather than a respect for her ability to make her own decisions and chart her own life path. to see her refuse to succumb to his will to the very end, the very end! the fact that he had to accept that he could not make her decisions for her and that to be let back into her life again she would have to be absolutely convinced he would respect her agency and desires! just, wow. that final scene in the last episode truly takes my breath away. sameera fazal makes me want to bash my head into a wall with how ridiculous her plots are but i can't lie that i do love the undercurrent themes in a lot of them. it makes me wonder what she'd do with a story if creating melodrama to get views wasn't such a necessity
I've been saying this for YEARS that Mannu was a far stronger character than people gave her credit for. I do blame the direction for literally bahaoing all of Mannu's strengths in the oceans of tears that she was made to shed in every fucking episode. beneath it all, Mannu as a person was just so staunchly protective of her OWN agency that really she can give many characters a masterclass in how to own their destiny. yeah sure, a deeper conversation about whether an agency that is purely masochist an agency worth celebrating can be held here. but there's no denying that Mannu's agency EXISTS. we cannot say the same about so many of the female protagonists. #MannuProtectionSquad!!
I do think Samira Fazal would make a much better short drama writer. Her basic plots are always fun. she just tends to lose the plot when she has to write 30+ episodes of it. which is what happened with Mann Mayal. which is what happens to ANY of her dramas. do you know Shukk? uska bhi yehi haal hua tha. i really enjoyed that drama in its first half and then toh phir toh too much hi hogaya.
Mann Mayal aired at the perfect time which is why the show enjoyed the blockbuster popularity it did. I am thankful it didn't air at the time when armchair "critics" were running their mouths mindlessly criticizing every project on air just to churn out an hour worth of content twice a week. social media trolled and celebrated the drama. Hamza Ali Abbasi was THE darling of the awaam and Maya got to enjoy a peak with Mannu that I am afraid she won't get to enjoy again in any other character. despite all the rubbishness..the show just worked. it didn't bother with giving any social message or sensationalizing for the sake of having a shock value. it was a melodrama, plain and simple, and fully committed itself to the genre. however, years later, the show still contains some moments of sheer brilliance that have not been tainted by time. in fact, I think now is a very good time to go back and watch Mann Mayal with an open mind. with no trolling to distract us or the long wait of a week between episodes to exhaust, and the entirety of the plot easily available on wikipedia to read..Mann Mayal becomes a show that should be watched to appreciate the technical finesse with which it handled some of the show's pivotal moments as well as to finely study the characterization of its very grey protagonists, flaws and virtues all at once.

Israeli tanks, planes and drones hit western Rafah
Israeli tanks advanced deep into Rafah on Wednesday, killing eight people, according to residents and Palestinian medics.
The tanks entered five neighbourhoods after midnight, residents said. They said the tents of displaced families came under heavy shelling and gunfire in the Al-Mawasi neighbourhood, west of the coastal enclave.
Twelve Palestinians were also killed in an Israeli strike on a group of citizens and traders in the southern Gaza Strip, medical sources told Reuters on Wednesday. The people were killed as they waited for convoys of trucks carrying goods through Kerem Shalom on the Salahuddin road northeast of Rafah, the sources added.
Israeli troops have destroyed much of Gaza and seized most of the Palestinian territory, but have failed to achieve Israel’s stated goal of destroying Hamas and freeing Israeli hostages.
Residents say the Israeli military blew up several homes in western Rafah, where more than half of Gaza’s 2.3 million people lived until last month, when Israel launched a ground offensive and forced most of the population north.
Some UN and Palestinian figures put the number of those remaining at less than 100,000. One Rafah resident said:
Another night of horror in Rafah. They opened fire from planes, drones and tanks on the western areas to cover for their invasion. Bullets and shells landed in the Mawasi area near where people slept, killing and wounding many.
Israel destroyed 70% of Gaza
Israel’s military operation in the town of Rafah on the Gaza Strip’s border with Egypt has resulted in the destruction of more than 70% of infrastructure facilities, the Associated Press quoted an excerpt from a statement by local administration spokesman Ahmed al-Sufi on Wednesday. The agency reported:
Israeli strikes destroyed more than 70 per cent of infrastructure structures in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Al-Sufi also accused the Israeli army of “systematic attacks on refugee camps in Rafah” and the destruction of “entire residential neighbourhoods” in one of the city’s districts.
The situation in the Middle East escalated after thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip infiltrated into Israel on October 7. On that day, Hamas fired several thousand rockets into Israel and announced the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country was at war. Israel then launched the Iron Swords military operation in the Gaza Strip.
Hezbollah’s warning to Israel
In a televised address on Wednesday, Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said that “there will be no safe place in Israel from our rockets and drones” if a wider war breaks out. He said the group also has a “bank of targets” it can strike precisely.
Israel “knows what awaits it in the Mediterranean …. In the face of a battle of this magnitude, it knows what must now await us on land, in the air and at sea,” Nasrallah added.
Hezbollah has been exchanging fire with Israel for more than eight months in parallel with the war in Gaza. On Tuesday, the Iranian-backed group released drone footage of important military installations deep inside Israeli territory.

Israeli forces press Gaza offensive from north and south
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israeli-forces-step-up-attacks-jabalia-camp-rafah-gaza-2024-05-13/
CAIRO, May 13 (Reuters) - Israeli forces pushed deep into the ruins of Gaza's northern edge on Monday to recapture an area from Hamas fighters, while in the south tanks and troops pushed across a highway into Rafah, leaving Palestinian civilians scrambling to find safety. Some of the most intense fighting for weeks is raging in both the north and south. Israeli operations in Rafah, which borders Egypt, have closed a main crossing point for aid, which humanitarian groups say is worsening an already dire situation. Hundreds of thousands of people are being forced to flee again after around half of Gaza's population took sanctuary there after Israel ordered evacuations from northern Gaza in October. Gaza's health authority appealed for international pressure to reopen access via the southern border to allow in aid, medical supplies and fuel to power generators and ambulances. "The wounded and sick suffer a slow death because there is no treatment and supplies and they cannot travel," it said. A foreign U.N. staff member was killed on Monday when a vehicle travelling to a hospital in Rafah was struck - the first international U.N. casualty in the Gaza war, a U.N. spokesperson said. In northern Gaza's Jabalia, a sprawling refugee camp built for displaced Palestinians 75 years ago, Israeli forces pushed into an area where they claimed to have dismantled Hamas months ago. Residents fled along rubble-strewn streets carrying bags of belongings. Tank shells landed in the centre of the camp and health officials said they had recovered 20 bodies from overnight airstrikes. "We don't know where to go. We have been displaced from one place to the next... We are running in the streets. I saw it with my own eyes. I saw the tank and the bulldozer. It is on that street," said one woman, who did not give her name. The Palestinian death toll in the war has now surpassed 35,000, with 57 killed in the past 24 hours, according to Gaza health officials, whose figures do not differentiate between civilians and fighters. Israeli troops are seeking to wipe out Hamas, which has said it is committed to Israel's destruction. The militant group burst into Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 and taking more than 250 hostages, by Israeli tallies. Hamas' armed wing said because of Israeli bombardments it had lost contact with militants guarding four Israeli hostages, including U.S.-Israeli citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who appeared in a video released by Hamas in late April. Attending a Memorial Day ceremony to mark Israel's fallen soldiers in Jerusalem on Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the war against Hamas was a struggle to secure Israel's "existence, liberty, security and prosperity". "Our war of independence is not over yet," he said.In Rafah, Israel stepped up aerial and ground bombardments on the eastern areas of the city, killing people in an airstrike on a house in the Brazil neighbourhood. Residents said Israeli air and ground bombardments were intensifying and tanks had cut off the main north-south Salahuddin road dividing east of the city from the central area. "The tanks cut the Salahuddin road east of the city, the forces are now in the southeast side, building up near the built-up area. The situation is dreadful and the sounds of explosions never stopped," said Bassam, 57, from the Shaboura neighbourhood in Rafah. "People continue to leave Rafah ... no place looks safe now and people do not want to escape at the last minute," he told Reuters via a chat app.

MOVIE REVIEW. NO BULL WITH RAGING ROBERT.

"Miller's Girl" which runs a tad over an hour and a half is never boring; it is also not great, either. The premise of the story is a good one... a "Lolita" type of writing which never hits the fever nor the depth of the famous book.
The synopsis of the screen play is a young, precocious student, Cairo Sweet (Jenna Ortega) is a want-to-be Yale bound student who has a deep thirst for reading and writing. Cairo is labelled "the one" by her teacher Johnathan Miller (Martin Freeman). Miller is a one and done writer, his book was panned by the critics and he has never written since. He has been down sized from the theater department to the literature department in this small, Tennessee town.
Cairo wants for nothing, her absentee parents are both international lawyers and are infrequently home. She wants nothing more than to get out of her small town even though her home is massive and she has everything she needs right there. Her side kick Winnie Black (Gideon Aldon) is also a precocious young thing who has a penitent for girls as well as men. Her crush on Cairo goes nowhere, however. She is in lust with Mr.Miller and Winnie has a thing for physics teacher Boris Fillmore.
This Netflix movie does its usual racial casting which particularly weakens the movie. Bashir Salahuddin is not believable as a physics teacher, more believable as a gym teacher. He is a due-fess as a human and not passable as an intellect. Christine Adams as Joyce Manor the vice principal too is not that strong in this role. She falls short as an authoritarian figure when Miller is called on the carpet in regards to his relationship with Cairo.
The most talented of the cast is Dagmara Dominczyk as Miller's wife. She is a successful writer in her own right and the clear bread winner. Up until a very good ending scene, we believe that the Miller's are a happy couple. She knows all the right things to say and like Ortega, she is sexy and smart.
Written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett (that is usually a mistake to take on both roles), the movie never goes deep enough; Bartlett only scratches the surface. This movie could have been so much more than it was. Instead, she never makes her move, and a "Wild Things" of a movie never develops. Just when we think Miller will make his move, he doesn't! But why doesn't he make his move? Is it fear that he can't make it without his wife? Does he love his wife too much? Nope. We never are shown neither-nor. Why is Cairo so smitten with Miller? Why does Winnie like Mr. Fillmore so much? (especially when he looks like Fat Albert from the Cosby cartoon series).
"Miller's Girl" is way to tame; the movie should have had some nudity/sex in it to be of any interest to a viewer who likes this genre. In the aforementioned book, "Lolita" and the movie, "Wild Things", the sex brought the film together with the suspense that ensued. The ending there was eye popping; here it was a disappointing thud! Even the conversations between Miller and Fillmore, Cairo and Winnie are never titillating nor do they lend any insight as to where the movie is going or may go... more like idol chatter.
The best part, the most surprising part of the movie is when the Miller's have it out. Here we find out his thoughts, but, the wife's thoughts and feelings are a complete 180 degrees from how she was during the entire movie.
"Miller's Girl" is worth watching for dialogue. It has some strong points, but unfortunately it has many weak ones as well.
No Bull With Raging Robert, "Miller's Girl", "The Blacklist", "Ozark", Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Amazon, The Oscars, The Tony Awards, Laura Linney, Hollywood, "Breaking Bad"

Could you write a story about Salah ad-Din's daughter and Baldwin?
After surviving the disastrous seventh crusade, a weary and battered crusader found himself lost and alone in the aftermath of the war. He realized that God had spared his life for a purpose: to reclaim Jerusalem from what he saw as heretical hands. With great effort, he limped along, using a makeshift stick as a crutch and desperately in need of medical attention.
As he trudged forward, rain began to pour from the heavens, soaking him to the bone. Exhausted and seeking refuge, he came upon a modest house and decided to take shelter beside it. It was at this moment that an elderly man appeared, recognizing the crusader's attire and his own past as a fellow crusader.
"Ah, a fellow crusader," the old man began, a wistful smile forming on his weathered face. "I, too, used to be one of your kind. But age eventually forced me into retirement."
The crusader was taken aback by the old man's revelation, realizing that he must have served during the era of King Baldwin's reign. Reading the young man's thoughts, the old crusader continued,
"I have seen a time when King Baldwin of Jerusalem, the one who was a leper, beat Saladin although he only had 300 armed men against Saladin's 3,000. But now your sins have come to such a pass that we round you up in the fields like cattle."
The bewildered crusader couldn't fathom the reference to "sins" made by the old man. Confused, he inquired, prompting the old man to knowingly explain, "Your sins date back to the first crusade, where innocent lives were brutally taken, staining the streets of Jerusalem with so much blood that it reached ankle-deep. It was during that time that two souls, (Y/N) Salahuddin's sister and King Baldwin IV, fell in love. Their affection for each other was evident in their eyes, but it's a tragic tale of love lost amidst the chaos. Few dared to speak of their love within the palace walls, as the nobility largely despised them."
The crusader was taken aback by the old man's sympathetic view of (Y/N). After all, he had always heard rumors accusing her of using witchcraft to seduce King Baldwin IV. The old man, sighing, seemed to understand the young crusader's inner turmoil. He retreated into his house briefly and emerged with food and medicine, tending to the crusader's wounds with care.
As the old man tended the crusader back to health, the old man nostalgically reminisced about his own youth. He began recounting his own story:
Year 1180
"My memories take me back to my childhood, where my parents spoke passionately of the Holy Land and the divine duty to protect the birthplace of our Lord from heretics. Back then, I longed for adventure and dreamed of becoming a Knight Templar, wielding wooden swords while my parents toiled and prayed. I proudly proclaimed myself a future knight to my friends. While my friends mocked me my parents encouraged my aspirations. I soon fulfilled my dream and became a knight to say I was sad would be understatement leaving my hometown especially my friends and parents would be understatement. Alas! there was nothing to be done
"As a young adventurer in the Holy Land, I served as a Knight Templar under the command of Reynald de Chatillon, a notorious warlord who was a Crusader lord based in the Kerak castle known for his ruthless raids. Some claimed his actions were meant to tarnish Salahuddin's reputation in the eyes of the Islamic world. However, his actions took a grave turn when he captured Salahuddin's sister, who was traveling in a caravan from Egypt to Syria .Salahuddin was furious when he learned of the attack. He saw it as a personal insult, as his sister was among the prisoners.
The old man's voice held the weight of history as he recounted these events. He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts before continuing.
Reynald looked at me and said "You, new comer" I nervously pointed to myself and he said "Yes, you. Go and inform Guy de Lusignan about my capture of prisoners especially our enemy's Salahuddin sister". "Be quick as possible before the news reaches the king" he commanded. I hurriedly mounted my horse and raced toward the palace. Sadly, I arrived too late. The news had already reached the castle, and they were embroiled in heated discussions."
I was afraid to turn back and face the wrath of my lord, for the failure of my work.
"My friend, recognizing my predicament, suggested I join the Knight's Templar during the discussion.
"The king will appreciate your presence, it will show him that you are loyal to crown not your lord"
"Besides lord Reynald is going to be punished" Heeding his advice I entered the room and saw the hall was already dissolved in aggression.
The old man's voice grew intense as he recalled the heated debate within the castle's walls.
The king who was patiently listening to all arguments noticed me entering and nodded as if to acknowledge my presence
“Guy de Lusignan and Reynald de Chatillon, with the Templars, have attacked a Saracen caravan" exclaimed my friend entering first and I followed behind him
“It was no caravan. It was an army headed for Bethlehem to desecrate our Lord’s birthplace.” Guy defended himself
“Reynald, with the Templars, have broken the King’s truce. Salahuddin will come" Tiberias interrupts
“Tiberias knows more than a Christian about Salahuddin’s intentions.” Guy challenged while Tiberias says “That I would rather live with men, than kill them. Is certainly why you are alive.”
“That sort of Christianity has its uses, I suppose.” Guy mocked with his followers in the army who laughed along with him
“We must not go to war with Salahuddin!” Tiberias exclaimed. “We do not want it, and we may not win it.”
‘Blasphemy!’ Knight Templar yelled with protest and fought with Knight Hospitallar who were arguing back as well.
"There must be war, God wills it!" Guy agreeing yelled as well "God, wills it".
"Amidst the heated discussions, there were clashes between Templars and Hospitallers. Some cried out for war, invoking God's will, while others, like Tiberias, urged restraint. The King Baldwin IV, sat patiently while reading letter."
Tumblr media
The old man's eyes sparkled with memories of that fateful day. Suddenly Baldwin IV raises his hand Tiberias noticing yells
"SILENCE"
Making the whole hall quite. Baldwin IV looked at the crowd and spoke in his raspy voice "I had sent a word to Reynald to let go of prisoners but he refused" As he said this the king tried getting up from his throne. Tiberias offered his hand worried about the king. However Baldwin IV raised his hand to as if signal he is capable of this much. As he got up the King whispered in his advisor’s ear. "We must be quick as possible before news reaches Salahuddin or else there will be war"
Tumblr media
“My Lord, if you travel you will die" Tiberias voiced his concern
“Send word to Balian to protect the villagers.” the King in commanding tone yelled “Assemble the army.” which was followed by cheers of the knights
The king arrived to the place where Reynald had supposedly taken Salahuddin's sister. King displaying extraordinary dignity ridding in his horse went forwards my lord. As he got down his horse he headed towards my lord. Reynald went pale in fear. When the king reached him he took off one of gloves and extended his leprous hand and declared,
Tumblr media
'I am Jerusalem, and you, Reynald, will give me a kiss of peace.' Reynald kissed the King's hand desperately, knowing the gravity of his actions. But the King, without hesitation, began to administer punishment. After he was done the king asked "Where is the princess?". A knight informed him that she, along with others, was held in prison. The King nodded and headed toward the castle, but suddenly, he stumbled. Several knights, myself included, rushed to his aid. Despite our pleas for him to rest, the King was determined."
(Y/N) was there in the cell crying but she got quite when she heard footsteps coming towards her. "No, matter what I won't allow you to hurt me"
"Princess" Baldwin IV said in his gentle voice. Realizing it was not Reynald (Y/N) came out of the dark and went into the light
I looked at the king and saw he seemed to be smitten with the girl but also had hint of pity in his face. "She must be truly terrified" I heard him mumble
"Princess, I apologise for the conduct of my knights". "May I please get the pleasure of knowing your name". (Y/N) who was surprised at gentleness of king mumbled her name in whisper "It's (Y/N)". Baldwin IV nodded at her and commanded the knights to treat the prisoners with outmost respect. "The princess shall get her own residence in palace" Baldwin IV commanded but the princess yelled "And get assaulted by your fellow murderers!" "I would rather live and die in prison than to submit to you and besides" (Y/N) face darked in anger and she leaned forward and said with outmost animosity "Flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion". "There is no way I would stay in the palace of leper". The place had gotten awfully quite . You could fear the sound of drop of water easily until a crusader shouted "You ungrateful wrench, how dare y-" but the king lifted his hand shutting him up. The king turned towards (Y/N) and said
Tumblr media
"People said that the diesease is the punishment for the vanity of the kingdom, if it's true I call it unfair" As the king said this he quietly laughed at the end of the sentence. The king suddenly seemed lost in thought and (Y/N) noticed how beautiful his blue eyes were and got lost in them. The king then said "I am aware of the sins commited I can't change what happened but I can change what will happen" "Please come and live in the comfort of the palace"
The crusader looked at pity at old man as he looked at the old man who appeared to be on the brink of death. Death had been a familiar companion on his crusading journey, but this stranger had stirred something within him in the short time they had spent together. The old man managed a feeble smile and softly spoke, "I wish I could share more with you, but I can feel my time has come."
The crusader responded, "I believe you've been a good man, and I have no doubt that our Lord will grant you the kingdom of heaven."
The old man's eyes twinkled as he continued, "When I first saw you, you reminded me of the king. Gentle, non-judgmental, and wise. I'm grateful I trusted my instincts and shared part of the story with you. There's much more I could have shared, but alas, my time has arrived."
With a tinge of sorrow, the crusader whispered, "Don't worry; I believe. I believe that (Y/N) and King Baldwin IV were good people who became victims of their circumstances."
As the old man heard these words, he seemed to find peace, a burden lifted from his weary soul. He must have carried these stories with him for so long, yearning to share them but having no one to confide in.
In the fading light, the old man slowly passed away in the crusader's arms.
The old man slowly died in crusader's arm and the crusader felt the rays of sunshine on his face. "The heavy rain had stopped" he thought. In that solemn moment, the crusader felt a rush of warmth and energy. He knew this day and the stories he had heard would remain etched in his memory forever.
Fast forward to present day:
"Both Christian sources and Arab sources have hostile opinions of Salahuddin's sister (Y/N) and Baldwin IV respectively, William of Tyre was said to be trusted resource but historian like Bernhard Hamilton spent lot of time proving otherwise. Now it's a well known fact that William of tyre work is biased with political agenda" (Y/N) said excitedly. "You are such a history nerd" your friend teased. "King Baldwin IV was said to understand the concept of chivalry" (Y/N) replied dreamily. "Of course, you like chivalrous knight while I like rough and aggressive man like my boyfriend" your friend said lost in dreams on her boyfriend.
"Are you borrowing that book, I need that as well. I am searching for this book for so long". Baldwin IV mumbled hesitantly.
"Isn't it Baldwin IV? He is said to be sickly but popular among his peers" Your friend giggled leaned down near your ear whispered "He is said to be gentle man, perfect for old romantic like you". You playfully shoved your friend.
"BEEP". You turned towards the sound and saw your friend's boyfriend with his bike. Your friend giggled "I gotta go" "Meanwhile you enjoy your date with your new boyfriend" and rushed away
You playfully rolled your eyes and turned towards the boy and said "Sorry about that"
The boy gave a bright smile and said "No worries. It's refreshing to meet someone who shares my passion for history." "How about a cup of coffee and a discussion on the history of the crusades?

"Under the moons light"
Salahuddin x reader.
Tumblr media
Tags: fluff, romance, poetic
Warnings: none
( this is about the Salahuddin from the movie "Kingdom of heaven" it has no relation to the real Muslim warrior)
✧༺♥༻✧✧༺♥༻✧✧༺♥༻✧
Under the watchful gaze of a luminous moon, the night whispers its secrets to the sleeping world. Majestic mountains rise like silent guardians, their snow-kissed peaks glowing faintly in the cool light. The forest, a sea of dark silhouettes, stands tall along the shore, cradling the still lake that mirrors the moon's silver face. Stones rest quietly at the water's edge, half-submerged in the tranquil embrace of the night. The air is hushed, filled only with the soft murmurs of nature, as if the earth itself is holding its breath in awe of this serene, celestial beauty.
A small blanket lays by the shore, a single woman sitting upon it.
Everyone in the Muslim camp is enjoying their dinner of rice and dates. All gathered in groups yet this only woman sits far by the lake, all alone
The Sultan approaches the woman and asks of her loneliness. She says she is the only woman in the camp and it has caused her great sadness.
The Sultan upon hearing this sits down beside her and gives her half of his bread.
He speaks understandingly, saying he knows of loneliness and sadness unlike any other.
They lay on the blanket and she looks up and whispers "did you know that the words the moon is beautiful tonight have another meaning? "
The Sultan gazes st her and asks her the meaning of the words. Which to she whispers "It means I love you."
The Sultan smiles and says "That is a beautiful meaning. So very romantic and poetic. "
The woman gazes upon him and says "another secret word is the sun will be beautiful tomorrow which means the person is leaving and never returning again. "
She then gazes at the man who is her Sultan and says, her voice hushed "I don't want the sun to ever be beautiful if it means losing you. "
The Sultan can only smile and ask her "How come? " with the same hushed tone.
"Because the moon is beautiful tonight, and it will be forever so" She responds a small smile upon her face.
The Sultan leans in and lays his lips on hers, then moves back and whispers "we can agree on that, forever. "
He then leaned back in and laid his lips on hers.
