(not accusatory in tone) But in what ways does Dropout specifically cater to their loud obnoxious fans? I am a pretty casual D20 fan and only briefly lurked in Dropout’s discord when it existed, but I’ve seen this sentiment a few times now where people say Dropout listens to these fans as opposed to say CR, who has definitely backed out of unmoderated fan spaces. I was curious how Dropout differed (especially as much of their cast seems to use twitter and social media sparingly)?
I believe that the Dropout server's collapse is directly tied to the fact that they never had a "keep it on topic" rule, clumsily tried to implement a "no politics rule", and listened to a loud and unpleasant minority on Twitter who pushed back so hard that they opened up multiple political channels. Their next Discord survey specifically requested (volunteer) mods from specific minority backgrounds, one of which was a group of which I am a part, which was frankly disgusting - like, the reason pretty much any other fan server I've seen has a broad "on topic" policy is because most fan server moderators are like "I can handle making sure people keep it appropriate to a D&D show; I am not prepared to moderate discussion on geopolitics." The fact that the Dropout server's solution was to ask people from minority backgrounds to do this labor was infuriating and I have to admit, had they not shut down the server soon after I'd have at least written an actual letter (well, email) saying that unless they started paying mods, I would cancel my subscription over it. (I did say that I found this wildly inappropriate in the survey).
I also found their mods even before that whole debacle to be grossly incompetent. The biggest example I have in mind is that in The Ravening War, Lou's character Deli was at minimum flirting heavily with his aunt by marriage (and that this was reciprocated) and the mods like...outright said this wasn't happening because it would be icky, in pretty much those words; but this was not an isolated incident.
On the other side, Critical Role has pretty consistently only listened to fans for major missteps (the Wendy's one-shot) and otherwise has stuck to their guns on setting their own timeline and agenda for making or not making political statements, keeping moderated fan spaces on-topic, and also just not giving into fan requests that would require immense and impossible to moderate effort for very limited benefit (the biggest of which is their choice to keep their existing blanket content warning in most situations, despite a similarly small but loud contingent back in early 2021 making a commotion about it).
I think most of the problems with Dropout listening to fans stopped once they made the server read only. I do think that the fandom generally still has some of that problem (there's a zine scene, which I think is great, honestly, but a lot of the people who work on the D20 zines think they're king shit of fuck mountain for doing so) but I no longer think that any representatives of Dropout the company are listening; I think the server led them to learn their lesson.

So, what's the deal with Showroom Certified?
When we started this project, we estimated finishing in “Q2 2024”- we’re now in Q4 2024, with no updates on pre-orders beginning for a while now. So, what happened? Is the project dead? What’s going on?
I’m not going to beat around the bush– we fucked up! I (Juno) and the other mods have never run a zine before, and there’s been a bit of “we bit off more than we could chew” as we move into post-art production. All three of us also unfortunately happened to fall into our own respective IRL crises that drew our attention away from the project for a stretch of time. These are explanations, not excuses, and on behalf of the mod team I’d like to apologize– both to our contributors, and to spectators who’ve been waiting for the zine to finally be available.
However, I am not about to leave everyone who’s been waiting on this zine in the dust. Showroom Certified will be completed, and will be available before the end of the year! (Or at the worst, very early next year.) We’re currently discussing the financial situation (i.e. taxes, manufacturing costs, etc.), and we’re also finally settling on manufacturers for the merch.
Our main obstacle at this point is the money– since this is such a small project (compared to other zines, at least), we’re trying to figure out a way to produce everything with the smallest out-of-pocket costs on the mods’ part, since we’re all broke 20-somethings lol. We’re considering how best to approach pre-orders when the time comes, and we think we’ve come up with something that will keep things relatively easy on our end while also keeping all our promises! Stay tuned for more details (once we have the details actually solidified).
We haven’t been the best at communicating updates to you guys, so going forward, I’ll be typing up updates like this for you all on a weekly basis! We’re aware of how long the radio silence has been, so hopefully these will work to regain some of your trust and interest in the project.
TL;DR: All the art for the zine has been completed, and despite issues on the mod side of things, we're slowly but surely gearing up to get preorders open! Thank you for being so patient with us- we'll keep updating you like this through the rest of production! See you next week!

hi i was just wondering of any of the mods have any previous experience with organising fandom zines or events in the past?
Warning! The following answer is long, boring, mostly unrelated to the question, and kind of a Debbie Downer. Sorry anon/gen. hi it’s me one of the mods. The other mods are me when I’m actually on my meds, me at 3 am, and me when I’ve had a good nights sleep. The last one has not made an appearance as of yet. No I’ve never done this before and I’m freaking out because I have no clue what you’re meant to ask people on a mod application form and what determines who I should let in once they go out. I’ve never even been in a zine before, my experience with community events consists of I’m currently working on (read: avoiding cause I’m lost on what to do for) a gift for a gift exchange. That’s it. I’ve got no clue who to ask cause I’m paranoid about internet safety and also I’ve got school on top of this and I’m just kinda lost as to what to do because I’ve started this whole thing so before I can hand off the responsibility to someone who is capable of making good judgment and doesn’t have to split their time between working on the zine and doing homework, I’ve got to make some important decisions about who on the internet is trustworthy and I’m terrified that I’m gonna screw up and face consequences a whole lot worse then just the zine doesn’t get made. I don’t know how to verify if someone is a person I feel safe contacting over the internet, and how to maintain my anonymity as a mod so that my personal blog doesn’t get the same hate mail that the zine is getting and I’m, to be maybe a bit too honest, scared. Sorry for rambling especially cause I doubt this was what was intended with the question I guess I just needed to say this somewhere lol. Did I kill the mood? Sorry. I know you all followed cause the interest form was funny and the post I linked it on was funny and it seemed like there were a bunch of experienced people working together on this who knew what they were doing and so now using this blog to vent feels duplicitous and like it could possibly kill the zine because no one is here to listen to some kid whine about high school lol. I worked hard to seem effortlessly funny and confident about my lack of a plan, and while I didn’t necessarily say that there was more than one mod, I kind of implied it, cause I thought people would only want to participate if it seemed like there were a bunch of people capable of being responsible running the zine who would be fun to work with and would be totally on top of getting things done so contributors would be able to just focus on their piece. I wanted to seem like someone people would want to be friends with, cause really I started this zine cause I wanted to make friends, and I’m worried that now that people know that it’s just some whiny screenager who’s never touched grass with no idea what he’s doing who is really not all that funny unless he’s spent hours agonizing over what to say running the zine then they won’t want to participate, and I personally can’t blame them. I’m so, so, sorry for all the times that I made it seem like I’m someone I’m not, and I hope that people will still consider contributing even if the zine’s chances are a lot iffy-er than I made it seem. I’m scared to take offers from people saying that they want to help because creeps in the past have got me paranoid. So many people have said nice things about the zine and how excited they are for it and said that I could dm them with questions and I appreciate those people so so much but it’s difficult to drown out all the hate I’ve been seeing, which I’ve been trying to ignore, but it makes me hesitant about taking up those offers for help and sending out applications, cause I don’t want to bring some weirdo into a group chat to have them harass the zine makers and I’m not sure I’m capable of making this a positive experience for people without someone I can trust helping me and getting an internet friend I trust to help would involve leaking my personal blog and I can’t handle getting hate mail from both of them.
idk im just really lost and overthinking this and needed to rant about it, mod applications will still probably go out next month, I’ll do some research into what is usually on them, and also this is a niche enough thing that I probably don’t have to be so concerned about creeps, and there are a ton of people who’ve shown their support for the zine and it would be a disservice to them to act like everyone hates me, and everything is gonna be fine and probably a fun time and I’m just tired and needed to say all this somewhere to convince my brain how ridiculous it’s being lol. I might delete this post later, cause it’s kind of a downer honestly a high schooler complaining about his anxiety on the internet isn’t gonna get people interested and excited for the zine, I guess I just wanted to be transparent about what currently my thought process is and to ask that, having read this, you guys are patient with me as I figure out what the heck is going on. I’ll be back on my being funny enough that people think I’m actually Joel game on the form I promise guys, don’t worry just needed to get sappy there for a second but that is not what the zine is actually gonna be like it’s just gonna be fun and silly, and again sorry anon for derailing your ask.

Bang Creator Interview: Tumblr: @littlebreadrollart | AO3: InkedConstellations | Twitter: littlebreadroll | Bluesky: littlebreadroll
The Collaboration period has begun! In these quiet months before works are due, we want to foster a sense of excitement, camaraderie, and celebration among our participants. To that end, all participants were given the option of a formal interview by our mod, Dema, or an informal “ask-game” survey. We hope you enjoy getting to know our phenomenal creators as much as we have!
Interview with Dev
Dev and Dema talk horror media, the Deep Roads, and too many eyes (or: can there ever be too many eyes?)
Dema: Is this your first time participating in a Big Bang as an artist?
Dev: It is! I've participated in some zine events in the past, but only as a writer. I'm very excited to be an artist this time around.
Dema: What inspired you to join?
Dev: I've been a fan of Dragon Age for a long time, but wasn't really sure how to join in the fan community. Things have been a lot more active recently since Veilguard is coming soon (finally), so I thought 'It's now or never! Might as well go big or go home.'
Dema: When you do a collaboration like this, what is your process like? How do you start?
Dev: I usually start by reading the prompt and seeing what comes to mind, and then talking with my partner about their vision for the piece. As an artist in particular, I feel like my best inspiration comes from the passion other people have for their projects, so it's important to me that what I settle on is both something I want to draw and something the writer really wants to see! From there, I sketch a few thumbnails on paper before I really sit down to work digitally. I like to take my own reference photos, so my roommate puts up with a lot of unusual posing requests.
Dema: Oh I love that, having your own references is so valuable. Besides the source itself, is there anything else inspiring you a lot right now?
Dev: I'm a big fan of horror media in general, so I'm always being inspired by that. Anything that leaves the impression of being slightly wrong or off is always a great piece in my opinion--the kind of thing that lingers in your brainspace. I'm reading a lot of korean webnovels lately too, so I've been invested in their flair for the dramatic. But ultimately, I'm inspired by the idea of trying something new.
Dema: Dragon Age has a lot of horror elements, but is there a particular game in the franchise, or theme, or even a moment in DA that scratches that itch the most for you?
Dev: I started with Dragon Age: Origins, and it'll always have a special place in my heart. I think the moment I fell in love with it was actually Branka's Deep Roads quest--walking through the pulp-filled hallways while that poem is being recited still sends shivers down my spine! I know it's a bit controversial among fans because they're such a slog at times, but the Deep Roads are my favorite part of any DA game.
Dema: What do you think will be the greatest challenge for this piece you're working on for the bang? Without giving away too much 😉
Dev: Definitely the expressions. I picked a really visceral moment in the fic, both physically and emotionally, so I hope that the finished result gets the right feelings across. They say eyes are the windows to the soul, after all!
Dema: Do you consider yourself primarily a portrait artist?
Dev: I would say more character artist than portrait, since I feel like the entire body pose works to communicate a figure's personality and emotions. But eyes are definitely my favorite part of drawing. So much so that I often find excuses to add extras 😂
Dema: Hahaha does this mean you love the Dread Wolf iconography?
Dev: I do! I admit, I wasn't much of a Solas fan when I first played Inquisition. But the Dread Wolf designs have really grown on me.
Dema: When did you first play it? Did you play them as they came out?
Dev: I wish! I didn't even play DA:O until 2017, my sophmore year of college. My boyfriend at the time introduced me to it, but before then I wasn't much of a video game player at all. You could say that Dragon Age really changed my view on how fun it could be to play video games. I spent a few years being obsessed with Origins and Awakenings, but after that I played DA2 and Inquisition right in a row.
Dema: What is the most fun aspect of the games, in your opinion?
Dev: The lore, hands down. I'm the type of player that reads every scrap of paper and book I get my hands on. But more than just learning about Thedas, I like to use that information to change how my character interacts with the world. It's also really fun to read other people's theories.
Dema: Do you have a favorite OC you've created?
Dev: I think our first is always special to us. I began with my Warden, Sigilla, as a casteless dwarf. I went in blind with her, so I really felt like we were both discovering the world at the same time. But my Inquisitor is a close second!
Dema: When did you first make art for Dragon Age? Why did you start?
Dev: I started out with little napkin doodles back when I was first playing Origins. They were just to pass time so I didn't end up keeping most of them, but I started because I was absolutely obsessed with Alistair. I just drew his goofy little face everywhere!
Dema: Is he your favorite companion/romance?
Dev: Yes, he is. Every time I replay DA:O I tell myself I'm going to make different choices, but I just can't bear to break his himbo heart. Tell me that when he pulls out that rose you could look him in the eye and turn him down!
Dema: Last question: are you art-ing today? If so, is there anything you'll use to help you get into the zone?
Dev: I am! When I draw, I like to make sure my space is really clean so I don't have any distractions. Usually I just keep my sketches out, and I'll listen to a podcast or random youtube videos and let the white noise keep my thinking brain occupied so I can really go at it. Right now I'm on my 4th listen of the Magnus Archives--it may be spooky, but there's just something about a vaguely British man reciting horrors in a deadpan tone that's really relaxing.
Dema: Oh, I think those are great vibes. I hope you have a wonderful drawing session! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to be interviewed.
Dev: Of course! It was great to talk to you. I'm really excited to be a part of this project, and I hope that everyone who reads the fic I'm paired with enjoys it! It's inspired me a lot.

Hello everyone who's followed me here! The poll ended a while ago and it looks like people are interested in doing this so here's the blog where all further information about such a project will be placed!
Due to the fact that I've never run a fandom event before, this is going to take me quite a bit of time to organize, plus I've currently got a lot on my plate irl right now (such as writing and producing a musical from now until the end of the year which I am very hyped about but also I assume it's going to take up a lot of time) so bear with me as I organize my own thoughts before bringing more people on board
In short here's a generalized timeline for things off the top of my head (and is by no means all inclusive or a hard and fast timeline, this is just to give people general expectations)
Now (June 2024) - October 2024: Organizing all the feedback from the comments on the original post, coming up with organizational structures and outlining how many roles would be needed in order to put an event like this together
November 2024-December 2024: Mod applications and interest checks open
January 2025: Interest Check results are released and Mod application results are sent out
February 2025: Mods look over organizational structures, give feedback for how the event is organized, finish getting everything ready for people to contribute to the project
March 2025-April 2025: Sign ups are sent out for writers/artists/betas, distinguishing between people who would like to write pre-blackening arcs and post-blackening arcs (in my mind there would be an application process similar to that of a zine for writers and artists thay would like to create hard and fast canonically referenced events in PIDW but EVERYONE would be open to write general wife number whatever chapters OR Binghe gets massive power up chapters, for those that want to participate but don't wanna write smut, including people that don't sign up within the "event" time frame, allowing PIDW to be an ever changing living document that essentially never has to end however this system would remain open to changes depending on what people would like to see most)
May 2025: Results are sent out for people writing pre-blackening arcs and discord invites are sent out to all participants in the project
June 2025 - March 2026: Creation period, potentially longer or shorter depending on interest check results since the goal would be to create chapters with ridiculously long word counts for the sake of the bit
April 2026-???: Release of the project to ao3, with a new creator's work being posted each week at first and then speeding up to a daily reveal until all works are revealed in the collection, functioning similarly to a hypothetical Airplane's writing schedule
Once again this is all just... REALLY vauge outlines and the speculation of someone that has no idea how long it takes to put on an event like this, I would imagine that in actuality it would take much longer to do so, and life tends to interfere in things in mysterious ways so I would not be surprised if this does not end up accurate to the actual timeline, but just to give people a general idea of when a large scale project like this would be able to take place!

2, 13, 14 for the writing meme! :D
THANK YOU FOR THE QUESTIONS !!
ask game for fanfic writers
2. talk about a notable time a narrative or character has looked you dead in the eyes and said “fuck your plan, here’s what we’re actually doing.”
THIS IS SUCH A FUN QUESTION and actually is making me look back at all my old fics to figure out when this may have happened. I feel like maybe I could argue this happened with the 2017 Gunter Birthday fic?? never in a million years did I plan for it to be 11K (HOW DID I DO THAT) but Gunter really said "you will write a masterpiece for me, have fun with that >:P" LOL. perhaps it also happened in my most recent mikoto fic where I had all the character dynamics planned out but I still felt like I was missing something. and then anankos popped his eyeball head in like "hi I want to be a part of this" like OKAY FINE SURE you help tie it all together, consider yourself included.
13. talk about a writing experience that has pleasantly surprised you.
so tldr, many years ago, I had a really bad experience when I was participating in a zine (that ended up falling through) with the artist I was collaborating with (iykyk). I was really soured by the entire experience, and was albeit nervous and jaded to both A) participate in a zine again and B) be a part of future collaborations.
fast forward a bit. an ohshc zine crosses my feed. it looks like fun!! I apply and get accepted!! and then I get anxious b/c I realize writers and artists are being paired together to create collaborative fics/illustrations. but it turns out all the mods were so sweet and communicative, and collaborating with chiisagi ended up being one of the most delightful experiences I've ever had in fandom ;www; it really gave me a more hopeful outlook re: what collaborations between fans can look like and what can come out of them <3 anyways!! said fic is here (unfortunately the attached link for the art is not publicly viewable anymore, but if anyone's curious I can send it along from my copy of the zine)!!
14. what’s your worst writing habit?
I think I've alluded to or out-right stated this in the past, but I have such a hard time breaking free of the "okay but my first draft needs to be perfect" mindset. it's slowly gotten better over time, since I've learned how to make outlines work FOR ME instead of them being an extra hurdle in my writing process. but I won't deny, I still catch myself spending too long on trying to find the perfect synonym when I'm just cementing ideas, or other similar things that I end up wasting time on.
other little habits I have (that I don't like) is that I find it difficult to write uninterrupted for long periods of time (I think my brain tops out at 30 minutes, sometimes less than that). social media is too tempting!! and this one is specifically for when I'm writing self-ship fic, but I get in my head too much about how readers will interpret certain prose. bih we are out here trying to be MAXIMUM self indulgent. that's the whole point!!
#ask meme#writing#SLOWLY BUT SURELY I AM ANSWERING THESE!!!!!!!#at this rate i will finish next month LMAO

Hi! I know you're very much "in" the zine community (i loved your hqmm zine!) so I had a question that I was wondering if you could answer. on projects where it was a physical zine, how did you order them/manufacture them? because most places refuse to do fanworks. Thank you & have a good day!
Hi there & good day to you too 👋🏼
Firstly, thank you so much for the compliment, I'm really happy you liked the Murder Mystery Zine (it was a really cool project with a lot of amazing people) 💕
I am by no means a big production guru (there are mods out there with years of experience and dozens of projects more than me who really know almost every single manufacturer there is and have tried and compared them all) but I'm always happy to answer zine related questions and help to the best of my knowledge — I'll put the booklet related tips below the cut but if you have any other zine or production questions, please don't hesitate to ask again or DM me ☺️
To answer your question, for physical booklets, I, personally, tend to use Mixam UK, because in my opinion they have the best price/cost relationship (there are certainly manufacturers who deliver a better quality and more paper options, but if you are trying to keep costs low, then Mixam UK does a very good job! You need to pay attention though, because Mixam also has a US site, but I would advise against using them, because they are both more expensive and their quality is at best acceptable and at worst subpar — depending on what size and page count you have it can also be cheaper to order from the UK site with shipping to the US that ordering directly from the US site, so be sure that you are on the right Mixam site. There is also a Canadian & Australian site but I have not yet worked with them so I can't speak to how they compare—as far I remember the hearsay though, they seem to be doing okay) ☺️
I have also been part of 1 zine where the booklet was ordered with PixartPrinting (though not as a moderator), who seem to do great work with their finishing (though that was some years ago and last I checked they don't offer shipping to the US/international anymore, only EU, but you might be able to get more info if you contact customer service). I have also heard good things about Jukeboxprint and Skating Bear (especially if you want things like foil on the cover, etc), but never actually used them myself because from what I hear and the prices that I have been quoted for past projects, you need to reach a high quantity (250 & upwards) for the costs to balance out. Mixam has recently also added foil options but I have not yet tried them so I can't judge their foil work.
All of these have a website where you can order directly, except Skating Bear, who operate via Alibaba.
I have also never heard of any of these manufacturers (or any other) cancel or refuse an order because it was fan work, so not sure where you have that information from 🤔 I have only heard of a single instance where a sticker manufacturer wanted proof that you could use the designs (I guess they became suspicious because the designs had different art styles?) and it was all resolved by the respective merch artists sending them a message that the project had permission to use their designs—as far as I recall this was a very small, local manufacturer though and it was also some years ago. So, if you are trying to print locally and go somewhere in-person, small shops may very well have individual policies on not printing fan works or be more pro-active when checking the designs for originality 🤔
If you had a big/online manufacturer refuse your order because it was fan work though, I would be really curious to hear which company it was, if you don't mind sharing! That could be really helpful information for future and ongoing projects which company to avoid or have a backup plan for.
I think that was it, my 2 cents on making physical zine booklets, and I really hope that it all makes sense and was roughly the information you were hoping for 😅 If there is anything that you are unsure about or want more information on, please don't hesitate to ask or DM me directly 💕
I only got my first 2 zines to completion because I had amazing co-moderators around me giving advice and sharing experiences, so I am always open to passing on that knowledge to others and help them realize their zine ideas ☺️

hi! i recently came across your writing, and was absolutely transfixed by the way you can make a narrative flow, and especially how you can make imagery and characters so vivid, even when the reader isn't too familiar with them! I hope it's not too forward to ask whether you are open to commissions, or would consider them in the future?
[NOTE: This is me crossposting an ask I got on CuriousCat! Thought it would be relevant here, too.]
Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your lovely words! I think the best compliment of all to receive on my writing is an appreciation from people who aren't even familiar with the fandom but still enjoyed it, so I'm genuinely absolutely delighted that you like my work so much!
As far as commissions, I've vaguely considered it a few times in the past and I'm in no way offended by you asking. The issue that it boils down to for me is that the amount of money I would have to charge to make them feel worth it to me is not an amount that I think would feel worth it to anyone to pay unless they're a Renaissance-era rich person collecting pet artists. It would be less of a commission and more of somebody bribing me into it.
I'm quite busy and stressed with medical school, in no acute need of extra money (so all of it would be going toward leisure things and probably my aquariums), and picky about what I write. I would be unwilling to take longer commissions, and zine experience has taught me that when mods were nitpicky with what they wanted me to write, the quality of my writing just got worse, to the point that there are a few zine fics I will likely never post. This is actually why I'm not looking for zine positions anymore!
So I won't open commissions officially, but if someone wants to bribe me with an offer of like $200+ for an approximately zine-length-or-slightly-longer fic that I may still say "no" to if we can't find a prompt we are both into, have at it!
Two last points:
I'm more likely to say yes and the fic is more likely to come out longer if it's NSFW, and/or for a character and emotional theme that I'm already invested in.
I have gotten paid significantly more than that to write zine fic on multiple occasions, to give you a frame of reference.
#ask#message#personal#anonymous#commissions#my writing#or you can bribe me with that $600 wangxian figurine that I'm coveting LOL#one of the top things on my list of “what to purchase when I actually have an income” for sure#Foxy joked that I should make a zine bribe wishlist#it would consist exclusively of improbably or impossible things#but I WILL write you whatever you want if you re-translate TGCF for me with all of the new text MXTX added#/hj

Yknow what this thought is going on main:
People who are pretentious cloud-yelling old men about art book/anthology-style zines are annoying as hell and none of you have ever actually spoken to a single person who participates in and runs them before coming to wildly incorrect conclusions about what we do, how we do it, and why we do it.
No, we are not “exploiting free labor”. It’s about as exploitative as participating in a big bang or prompt week. But with a well-run zine, you can expect a decent tip and free fandom stuff. It’s not about earning money to live. It never is. And if you desperately need the money to live, don’t join a zine. spend your time on things that actually guarantee money. You have fundamentally mistaken passion-driven, fan projects with profit-driven consumer products.
No, we are not “charging too much money”. Do you want us to pay our artists and production partners or not? Do you want us to donate proceeds to charity or not? If we do it for free, are we expected to pull money out of our endless pockets to make the project? Hell, actually, plenty of people DO make full free projects (I literally just ran one, Deadly Alliance is fully free and available for download on itch io). You fundamentally do not understand how money works, bc you cannot have a project that is both free and compensates people appropriately, bc the money has to come from *somewhere*.
No, we cannot print at home. Some of us don’t have printers, for one. Also, we cannot charge enough money to even *hope* to compensate artists fairly for their labor if we attempt to sell a zine printed in black and white on printer paper. And on top of that, even if we did have printers at home, the number of zines that need to be printed is prohibitively high for one individual to undertake (why don’t *you* try printing and binding 100 copies of a 40 page magazine all by yourself? Time is one thing, but you’d have to charge even higher amounts of money to be, you know, *fairly compensated*, since that seems to be a big concern). You are ignoring the fact that we are not trying to emulate your genre of traditional zine-making, and you do not understand the division of labor bc not everything can be done by yourself.
No, we cannot lower our costs. Artists and writers working for less than industry wage or volunteering their time for a charity project is one thing, but we can’t just refuse to pay printers and manufacturers. They did not volunteer to be chosen as our production partners, and they deserve to be compensated at their expected rates. You have fundamentally misunderstood how money works, bc we need to earn money in order to spend it.
If you want to print a zine at home and sell it for $3, please by all means do this. I fully support it and if you tag me in the project and I am interested, I will certainly boost it. You can make zines however you please, that’s the beauty of self publishing. You don’t need to feel beholden to the current (quite high) standards of production quality. But at the same time, you can’t yell at people who put in extra work to create a more polished project. And you certainly can’t accuse us of “exploiting” artists when the amount of work we ask for is functionally the same as any free fandom project. We don’t even ask for copyright use of their works—at *most*, a zine mod might ask for a short exclusivity period (only until the zine is wrapped, which is between 6 months to 1 year) after which you can literally do whatever you want with your piece. No respectable fandom zine will ever ask for copyright use of your piece, and only ask for privacy to maintain *value for the customers*. And any contributor who disagrees with a zine’s policies may withdraw their piece at any time with zero consequences bc no contracts are signed and they are not obligated to stick around if they don’t want to.
And if you are upset that you weren’t invited to a project or that you were rejected from one, just… make it yourself. Zines are self-published by nature. Print it at home. Sell it for $3. I don’t care. That’s the point of zines, you do it yourself bc no one else will.
finally as a footnote, I do agree that modern fandom anthologies should have a unique name to indicate it as a sub genre of zines but atp the term is so ingrained that I don’t think new terms will catch on anytime soon. I personally differentiate them as being traditional zines vs anthology-style zines (or art book zines, for projects with art-only) or just fandom anthologies, but they all still fall under the same broader category of zine aka self published magazine. Just bc someone hired a printer (which btw, a lot of zines go with small business printers, aren’t we all about supporting small businesses?) doesn’t mean their zine is “too professional to be a zine” or don’t belong under the umbrella term.
#not art#bc every little while people love to circulate a post that WILDLY#and I mean WILDLY#misunderstands what actually goes on behind the scenes in the zine scene#don’t be mad at people for putting in effort into things they fucking love#you literally just sound jealous and mad about shit that doesn’t involve you

About That’s a Wrap!: Something's wrong with Sunny Day Jack FanZine
Hello everyone, SWWSDJ Fanzine Team here!
We’re planning to open the application for this project, but first, we have to introduce what this project is about!
All of this info will be updated; so don’t hesitate to shoot the question for us to satisfy your curiosity!
● Who is organising the zine?
There are 7 of us who are crazy I mean, passionate about Something’s Wrong with Sunny Day Jack. So we figured it would be fun to start another project after the Phantom of the Sunny Day Jack project.
@thisisEClmao, @enthused_ubi, @theyukidragon, @luckyclover_NB, @Alonsy_Nah, @primarvelous, and @kristella_lav going to be on the boat for this project as mods.
(Sauce is still on the team, but they are on our Guest Artist list!)
This is our first time organising a zine so we’ll try our best to bring out everyone’s sunny-fantastic work!
● What is this zine about?
This Sunny Time Jack Zine is a SFW zine centred around the prompt that Sunny Day Jack, Ian Duff, Shaun Durand-Cofer and Nick “Nicholas” Herraras are actors for Something’s Wrong with Sunny Day Jack. We encourage writers and artists submitting to the zine to imagine what the actors are like when working on an 18+ erotic yandere horror game.
Examples:
Moonpie is not actually blind ._.
Shaun prefers dogs to cats.
Barry is allergic to yoghurt.
We want to let the artist and writers work on what the character(s) are like when the camera is not rolling. Since it's behind the scenes, we can have 2 directions for this zine (so everyone won’t be drawing or writing the same scene):

Get into work mode: The camera is ready, and everyone gets into the working mood: costume changing, script practising, makeup etc.

After the work mode: When the camera is turned off, everyone can be more relaxed after a long day of work, they can hang out together, grab lunch, play games together etc! Things to do to let off some steam.
How one writer/artist interprets the actor's version of a character doesn’t have to affect how another writer/artist interprets the same actor. There’s no set continuity, and we encourage creativity, but let’s not make the actor versions of our favourite characters too different from their game counterparts, shall we?
We want to have at least one piece for every single one of them, which also means the creators will have to fairly decide which one they want to work on.
We are accepting only platonic relationships between characters. No sexual or violent depictions will be permitted at this time. OCs can be included in the art/writing but should not be the main focus of any given work.
● Who are “they” (the characters)?
These characters are from a game called “Something’s Wrong with Sunny Day Jack” which is an R18 psychological horror erotic visual novel game. I highly encourage anyone who is not familiar with it to give the game a try. The demo is out on Itch.io and Steam. This game is only for adults who are above the age of 18.
It also goes without saying that anyone who is under the age of 18 is not allowed to play the game or join this project.
“Sunny Day” Jack - Your best friend! :D He may be a ghost and a clown but he will never leave your side, especially during hard times.
Shaun Durant-Cofer - Your best bud from college! He is very involved in the film industry and is a well-known cat daddy.
Ian Duff - Your childhood friend and ex. He is an actor and was there with you during the most important moments of your life and is willing to do anything to get you back.
Nick “Nicholas” Herraras - He is an influencer and a dom and has some dark secrets he wants to hide.

● Where will the funds go?
After printing and shipping costs are covered, all proceeds will go to contributors of the zine.
Contributors will be split into two types:
Contributors
The artists and writers who have applied to join the project The contributors will be compensated for their work with a free copy of the zine - both physical and digital copies - and also the entire selection of merch we have available. 2. Major contributors The project organizers; ones who are responsible for making sure everyone's progress goes smoothly, monitoring the project's official social media platforms, putting together the zine into a booklet for printing and appropriate arrangements for any printing and QA if merch were to be made. Major contributors will be getting the same bundle and splitting the extra funds among ourselves as compensation. 3. Guest Artists and Writers The guest artists and writers will be compensated for their work with a free copy of the zine - both physical and digital copies - and also the entire selection of merch we have available.
● Who can participate in the zine?
We are planning to have around 20 Artists and 10 Writers in total. Depending on how many applications and how much interest we receive, we may increase the amount.
We are preparing an application form for artists and writers. Everyone is welcome to apply!
Each artist will create an illustration complete with character(s) and background. Digital and traditional illustrations are both welcome, but traditional illustrations must be scanned at high resolution!
Writers have a minimum word count of 500 with 2000 maximum. (Still deciding on the word limit) The focus should primarily be on the main cast of characters, but secondary characters - including OCs - are allowed to interact with them.
Artists are welcome to collab with writers to draw some scenes out!
● Will there be merchandise too?
Absolutely yes, we would like to offer different bundles with prints, stickers, or a combination of all of these. We’ll keep you updated about this. Artists are also welcome to apply as merch artists!
● What will I get if I contribute to this zine?
A physical copy of the zine will be offered to all contributors (hopefully). Shipping will be covered if funds permit; otherwise, contributors will be responsible for their own costs.
This is why your support and help in spreading the word about this zine are so important!
● What’s your schedule?
We have a very tentative schedule as follows: (Hopefully)
Opening the applications in early June (1st of June to 23rd of June) Closing the applications close by a week before the end of June (23rd of June) List of contributors up by the end of June or early July if we need a bit more time (1st of July) Creation period for both artists and writers from August - September (2 months period) Pre-Orders open in October Zines shipped out by November-December
We are still deciding the exact dates based on a number of factors. By the Closing Date of the Applications, we will share a definitive date!
● How and where can I get in touch with you?
Feel free to contact us on this blog, @SWWSDJfanzine, or through our other accounts: Twitter: @SWWSDJ_fanzine Email: [email protected]

Remember how I got home from work and said "if I wake up to more drama I'm going to be a very, very unhappy camper"? Well, colour me impressed at best and furious at worst.
If you've "heard bad things about me", then I'm sure I know exactly who you are, and if that's the case - it's been 3 years of this, why can't you leave me alone already? You doxxed me, you put my safety at risk, I had to stay with my mom for a week because people were threatening me and I was worried someone was going to show up at my apartment and hurt me. Haven't you done enough?
I'm assuming you haven't seen my own posts about the situation, nor have you seen my replies on the fic itself on ao3. I went to catch up on the latest chapter last night only to look in the comments section and see that absolute clownery trying to be pulled out in my name. It was very important to me to say something in Kit's defence, as I've already made my stance on the fic clear: I genuinely enjoy the fic, and I DO NOT feel like I am being ripped off. I actually really appreciated that they owned up to taking inspiration from it because I thought that was very mature of them, and I'm happy something I wrote could inspire someone else. That's what we as writers SHOULD be doing in a community like this.
I've made my stance on the fic abundantly clear, so why am I being accused of sending hate to this same fic I've left a multitude of positive comments on, and on top of that, for the person who is clearly trying to frame me to use my old flambydelrabies moniker which is publicly connected to me. That's some Scooby Doo ass "the note from the killer said Sair did it" bullshit. You'd think if I WERE to leave hate on a fic I wouldn't do it under such a goddamn obvious name, nor do I type anything remotely like that, and if you want me to post my recent emojis to show I don't use the yellow heart, hell, i'll do that too, because I won't stand for being smeared in yet another fandom.
I have no commentary on the "make it look like you're sending hate to yourself" bit. I know people have done that before, but I'm sort of assuming nobody would want to go through all this trouble of dealing with pushy anons to the point of having to turn off anon comments on here and ao3. I'm convinced I know who you are, and you need to leave me alone, and you need to leave Kit alone. This has nothing to do with them, and I'd appreciate you keeping both of our names out of your mouth to try and fuel some sort of beef that DOESN'T EVEN EXIST. I have no bad blood with Kit. I never have. Get real.
And as for the zine? We were never going to kick anyone from the zine over this. The mod team has already talked it over and are committed to keeping an eye on the situation in case it escalates, and you have clearly done so by spreading rumours about me. If Kit is by any chance uncomfortable working with me then we have another mod who is willing to look over their work for the zine. Nobody is being kicked. That was never even vaguely in the question, unless we could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that one of our contributors was the one sending these messages.
Leave me alone. Leave Kit alone. If this is who I think it is you've done enough already. If you wish to discuss this further you're welcome to message me off anon but that might be too scary for you I guess, because if you're smearing me and harassing contributors of my zine then I'm not going to be particularly nice to you.
Get lost.
Hello, I saw those comments on your a03, I'm sorry your dealing with that. I'd hate to start drama but I heard some bad things about crushedmary, and I genuinely believe they sent you that stuff.
I know that this seems cruel to say, but I heard that the mods on tendershippingzine (especially Sair) are thinking about using this to kick you. (I'm sorry I can't tell you where I heard this from, I know it sounds a little crazy) but I'm pretty sure som people think your intentionally sending yourself hate to cause drama and stuff.
So this is the biggest sack of shit that anyone has ever tried to feed me. I normally wouldn’t engage with this kind of thing, but I feel like I need to make my opinion on this matter very clear:
Sair has been exemplary in their every interaction with me. They are an immensely talented writer and I hold them in the highest regard.
To the anon who sent this, I know who you are. Stop trying to drive this wonderful person from our fandom. I’ve turned off anonymous asks as well as guest comments on my fics. Any further attempts to involve me in this blatant slander will be ignored.
To my mutuals, I apologize for bringing drama onto your dash, but I felt you should be made aware in case this person tries something similar with you.

It’s early I know, but do you have any cute and fluffy Christmas fics?
It’s not early anymore--thank you for sending this ask in early! Here are some of my favourite Christmas fics...
Single For Christmas? Mad At Your Dad? by ElliottRook (T)
Inspired by the classic "Alone on Thanksgiving? Mad at your dad?" Craigslist ad that went viral a few years ago. (It's a lot more lighthearted than the tags make it sound)
Aziraphale's overbearing family chased off all the boyfriends he'd ever dared to bring home. When he saw an ad from a fellow offering to, essentially, ruin dinner for free food, it sounded like the perfect revenge, and maybe he could teach his family a lesson.
Crowley didn't actually expect anyone to respond to the ad, much less someone as charming as Aziraphale, but he was still game to cause a scene.
It didn't go quite like either of them pictured.
May Your Days Be Merry by infinitevariety (G)
Having never been able to celebrate previously, Aziraphale and Crowley decide to embrace the festive season and make the most of their first December together since the world didn’t end.
Snow Angel by Vagabond (T)
Human!AU. Aziraphale needs a date to his brother's Christmas party to avoid getting set up with someone. Anathema suggests Crowley, the office bad boy. They go, get snowed in, and have a heart-to-heart that ends in a Happy Christmas.
From a prompt: Human!AU: Aziraphale needs a date for family Christmas. He invites the office rebel/bad boy, Crowley.
Crowley’s First Christmas by skimmingthesurface & SylWritesStuff (T)
Christmas is just the sort of holiday a demon has no business enjoying, even if one particular demon is entirely responsible for just such a holiday. After Armageddon't, he finally has a chance to see what all the fuss is about and one particular angel is very eager to show him. It's been nearly two thousand years of missing him every December, after all, so there's much to do.
There's mulled wine, Christmas markets, a tree to decorate, gifts to give, and secrets to share.
The Grinch Who Sold Christmas by darcylindbergh (T)
Anthony J. Crowley, a big-time attorney from London, is sent to small-town Tadfield to close a deal before Christmas that would sell out half of high street to a fancy developer and put him up for partner at his firm. The deal will run the local businesses out and change the landscape of the town forever, but that’s none of Crowley’s business; he’s just doing a job.
But as the town invites him to share in their lives, their hopes, and their holiday celebrations, and as the enigmatic Aziraphale invites him to share in something more, Crowley starts to wonder: if everything has its price, is he still willing to pay what this deal will cost?
So Hey, I Drew You In A Coffee Shop Before Christmas, You're Welcome by ServantOfMischief (G)
Aziraphale decides to go to the coffee shop right by his bookshop just to relax a bit and read a book, even doodle a little bit if inspiration struck him. And inspiration just walked in the door in the shape of a redhead with the most ridiculous shades.
I do not consent to my work being reposted, or used in any unofficial apps like Fanfic Pocket Archive Library (Unofficial) or the like!
There's also a Christmas zine fic collection!

Vault Interviews #4
We're almost at the end of pre-orders! Get your copy of the zine today! Click here for the link.
Contributor: Raven
How has your experience with being a contributor been?
I’ve really enjoyed being a contributor in this zine! Y’know, it’s nice to be able to do something like this, dedicate time in a group to creating this kind of labor of love. The work environment ( for lack of a better phrasing ), really reflects that too! The vibe has been very positive from the get-go, and that really never changed. If anything, I’d say it’s actually gotten more positive as we’ve all gotten to know each other, and worked hard to bring this project to life!
Have you learned anything new about the Zine process or about your own skill process? If so, what?
I’ve been in a few zines already, so in terms of the zine process itself, nothing was new. In terms of my own skill process, via collaboration, I’ve really come to realize how much further I can go by working closely with someone else! I’ve never collaborated with a writer in any past zines, so having someone wonderful who is equally as invested in bringing my art, and our zine piece, to life, has made me realize how much further I can go skill wise with some outside help!
What advice would you give to others about being a contributor?
Know your time limits! Zines do work on a schedule, and every mod team handles late check-ins differently. I’ve always been pretty good at gauging how much I can get done in a certain time frame, so I thought taking on more than I’d ever done for a project like this before would be a little more time consuming, but still an overall easy goal to meet. But I forgot to factor in the possibility of surprise extenuating circumstances, of which I ended up being hit with many, and ended up cutting things pretty close. The mod team was very understanding, for which I’m truly grateful, but you can’t rely on being able to push late check-ins. So I’ll repeat this again: know your time limits!
Anything else you would like to mention? (A thanks or last piece of advice)
I think one last piece of advice I’d have is that, when putting together a zine application portfolio, ask for outside opinions on what should go in it! From friends, family, or even followers! I’ve found I’ve had a much easier time discovering what my strongest pieces are this way; I’ve always been swayed by personal factors when I’m the only one making the decisions on that, so I always ask multiple people to get a better idea. P.S., if you can get help from some folks focused in the field you’re applying for, that’s a big bonus, because they can provide feedback on why it does or doesn’t work for your portfolio

Spring Birthday
After Sora’s return, Naminé’s friends celebrate her birthday with her. While her early days were lonely, her life is very different now, and she treasures each new memory with the people dear to her heart.
~1650 words. Post-Kingdom Hearts III and Melody of Memory. Gen, Friendship, Fluff. Naminé POV. Written for @naminezine, and the banner art is by the lovely @somniumars.
“Naminé, when is your birthday?” Kairi asked over breakfast one day, scones with jam and clotted cream, served with a hot cup of tea for both of them. They liked to visit this cafe together at least once a month. It had outdoor seating, and the weather was finally warm enough again for them to sit outside with light jackets.
Naminé stopped buttering her scone for a moment and frowned. It was a simple enough question, and yet she found herself unsure of what to say.
“Well, I suppose it was the day Sora released his heart to save you,” she said at last. “But as glad as I am to be alive, it feels strange to celebrate that day, considering what happened.”
“I understand,” Kairi said softly. “Are there any other days you can think of?”
Naminé paused once more and thought as Kairi sipped some more of her tea. The only other day she could really think of was…
“The day of my rebirth. It was spring on Radiant Garden. The sun was shining, the flowers were blooming, and the weather was perfect.” She sighed happily at the memory. “I’ll never forget what it felt like to walk outside for the first time in a body of my own.”
“Then why don’t we make that your birthday? I know we technically missed it last year, when we were all searching for Sora, but it’s coming up here soon.”
“Sure, that sounds nice.” Naminé put one more cube of sugar in her tea to get it to just the right sweetness, then added a little more cream and stirred. “I’ve never really thought about having a birthday of my own before.”
“Well, you deserve to have one,” Kairi said with a determined glint in her eye. “You’re your own person. Always have been, always will be.”
The two girls chatted some more as they finished their breakfast, and the subject soon slipped away from Naminé’s mind. It wasn’t until she and Xion were gathering shells together on Destiny Islands a few days later when the topic of birthdays came up again.
“See,” Xion said as she picked up a thalassa shell, “I like these ones the most, with the pink centers and yellow edges.”
“I like them too. Yellow’s one of my favorite colors.”
Yellow was the color of the sun. A hopeful color for a girl that had begun her life in a cage, longing to see the outdoors for herself. For that reason alone it was precious to her.
“You like blue too, right?” Xion said. She placed another thalassa shell in Naminé’s palm, this one with a blue center and yellow edges.
Naminé nodded. “Yes. Blue is the color of the sky… of the waves… all the things I longed to see when I was imprisoned in Castle Oblivion.”
“It suits you, and so does yellow,” Xion said with a smile. “Born from the waves, and reborn during the spring.”
“Xion, when is your birthday?” Naminé suddenly asked. She realized she hadn’t really gotten to celebrate it with her before.
“Oh, my birthday? I figured it should be during the fall. I don’t know why, but I’ve always been drawn to falling leaves, the seasons changing, that kind of thing.” She smiled ruefully. “I suppose because I felt like my time was limited, just like those leaves. Kairi actually asked me about it recently, I think because she wants to—”
Her eyes went wide, then she coughed and craned her neck. “Look, I see some more shells over there!”
Naminé found Xion’s startled reaction rather curious, but she didn’t press her friend. It was just nice to spend time together sharing a hobby they both enjoyed. For a girl who had started life with no friends of her own, Naminé was lucky to have so many now.
The next time she met with her friends, it was for a picnic on Rapunzel’s world, in a clearing in the woods near a small pool. The weather was perfect, sunny with a breeze blowing dandelions and flower petals through the air, and she and Sora and Rapunzel were all cloud gazing after a delicious lunch of sandwiches and cookies and lemonade.
“See that one right there?” Rapunzel said, pointing up at the sky. “It looks like Maximus.”
“It sure does!” Sora put his hand behind his neck and grinned. “The sky’s full of all sorts of interesting clouds today.”
“I wish I had my sketchbook with me,” Naminé said with a sigh. “I’d love to draw all of them.”
“Take a picture with your Gummiphone then,” Sora suggested. “You can always draw it later based off of that.”
“I’d like to, but I’ve run out of room in my sketchbook. I could really use some new pencils, too.”
Sora and Rapunzel exchanged glances, and Sora grinned.
“Naminé, you should come to the castle,” Rapunzel said. “I’d love to show you some of my art supplies. Have you ever tried painting before?”
Naminé shook her head. “No, I haven’t, but I’d love to. Thank you for the invitation.”
“What are we waiting for? Let’s go now!” Sora sat up and sprang to his feet.
The three of them spent the rest of the afternoon trying out Rapunzel’s art supplies. Well, more like Rapunzel showed Naminé her things and let her try them out while Sora kept typing away at his Gummiphone. Naminé giggled at how he still typed with one finger, like a bird pecking at grains of rice.
“There we go,” he said all of a sudden, then put his phone in his pocket. “What’d I miss?”
Naminé and Rapunzel both giggled and showed him what they’d made: a painting to hang on the walls of Naminé’s room in Twilight Town. It was of the beautiful woods where they’d had the picnic with dandelions flower petals floating through the air. As soon as she got home, she put it up and gave it a satisfied nod.
The days flew by until at last it was the anniversary of her rebirth. There was a knock on the door late in the afternoon, and when she went to get it, she was surprised to see Riku and Roxas waiting there for her.
“Hey Naminé,” Roxas greeted with a grin. His eyes were playful, like he had a big secret he couldn’t wait to share.
“Come with us, there’s something we’d like to show you,” Riku added, and she ducked back inside to grab a few things before following them through the woods and to the Old Mansion.
“Why are we here?” she asked.
“You’ll see,” was all Roxas and Riku said, and she followed them inside. She was shocked by how nice the entrance looked, like someone had been in here and cleaned things up—
“Surprise!”
She gasped as she entered the foyer. A huge banner hanging from the stairs read Happy Birthday Naminé, and all her friends were gathered around a large table in the center of the room. The evening light shone through the window behind them, pink and purple and blue, another gorgeous twilight on this world she called home now.
“Happy Birthday Naminé!” her friends all cheered, and she couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face. So this was what they had been plotting and planning all this time. Roxas grinned and grabbed a camera to take a few shots, and Sora and Riku had some of those confetti poppers that they popped with loud crackling noises.
The seashell decorations were yellow and the star candles were blue on the cake Xion held. Axel lit the candles, and they cast flickering lights and shadows over everyone’s faces.
Kairi leaned close and murmured, “Make a wish, but keep it secret.”
“A secret?” Naminé asked, tilting her head.
“It won’t come true if you tell us,” Ven explained, and Terra nodded.
As Naminé looked at the faces of her friends, what she should wish for became clear. She knew, deep in her heart, what she wanted more than anything.
With that, she blew out the candles, and everyone cheered loudly. Aqua swept the cake out of Xion’s hands so she could cut it properly, and then everyone sat around the table. The cake was delicious, vanilla and lemon, and after everyone was done eating, it was time for Naminé to open her presents.
“Here!” Sora said, his eyes shining as he handed her the first one. “It’s from all of us.”
Naminé’s hands shook as she removed the wrapping paper. She wasn’t used to getting gifts, and it took her some time to free the box. But once she did, she couldn’t have stopped the smile on her face even if she’d wanted to.
“They’re like the paints Rapunzel has! And in all the colors I like too.” She hugged the box to her chest. “Oh, thank you so much everyone, I can’t wait to use these.”
When she was finished unwrapping the rest of her presents, more art supplies and nice jewelry and cute clothes, she thanked her friends for making this such a wonderful birthday night. But there was one last thing that would make it truly perfect.
“If you wouldn’t mind,” Naminé said, “let’s make a painting together. So we have something to help us remember tonight.”
Naminé loved drawing on her own, but drawing with her friends was truly wonderful. Everyone brought their own unique spark to the table. And when the painting was finished, it was one huge flowing mosaic of color and life and creativity. Sure, it wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was something truly unique that only they could have made. And that was why it was a work of art. Not because it was perfect or technically skilled, but because it had their hearts poured into it.
Naminé couldn’t have asked for a better way to commemorate her birthday.
