#and they have this past that isn't necessarily shared but is personal because they are the only characters in the show that can say that

y’know I DID realize how weird it was for Beth to act like that. like, the snake episode, abcs of Beth, and probably so much more I’m not thinking of rn, and they have Beth acting like she’s never shot a gun before? it was definitely….a decision. a baffling decision.
on a side note, I think it’s so interesting u bring up how little of Beth and rick moments there are when I’ve actually always thought that Rick has always been the most openly affectionate and loving towards her. but then again, I’m guessing you’re talking more in terms of how their actual relationship had progressed? which, in that case, yeah, it’s weird how little the show talks about it. I mean, even when discussing rick’s whole dead family or whatever, Diane is what the show tends to gravitate on. Like, they will either say dead family or dead wife, rarely dead daughter. How Rick truly feels about Beth is a rlly underutilized aspect of the show, now what I think about it, honestly; damn.
honestly!! I get that from the episode's perspective they wanted to establish a bigger personality difference between Space Beth and domestic Beth (and why Summer would gravitate towards one vs the other) but I thought it was silly that it came at the expense of her competency when she proven herself to be practically the second most competent person in the family, after Summer herself.
And don't get me wrong, I definitely have noticed Rick's affection towards Beth (and I love it!!) but at the same time out of all his relationships in the show ... it still feels like the least personal? Like yes I agree that he is nicer to her than he is to the rest of the characters, but it hardly ever feels specific to her as a person imo. The show has done such a great job so far of expanding on the specificities his relationships to characters like Morty and Summer, and even now BP and Diane. Those feel like unique relationships that he has with them and we as an audience are allowed to fully understand his specific feelings about and towards them.
Unfortunately (for me lol) his relationship(s) with Beth is not explored with this same lens. Like is she specifically important to him (I would hope so) and how/why? Obviously, he loves Diane. He was in love with Diane and the show takes the time stress how important she is in his narrative, "dead wife", "won't bring her back", etc. It would just be nice to know how strong of an impact Beth has on that as well, or if she only fits into the narrative because her death is linked to Diane's?
You're 100% right Rick's feelings towards Beth as a person is an underutilized aspect of the show and it kills me constantly thinking about it because it's the least developed dynamic in the show ...

In the past I've shared other people's musings about the different interpretations of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Namely, why Orpheus looks back at Eurydice, even though he knows it means he'll lose her forever. So many people seem to think they've found the one true explanation of the myth. But to me, the beauty of myths is that they have many possible meanings.
So I thought I would share a list of every interpretation I know, from every serious adaptation of the story and every analysis I've ever heard or read, of why Orpheus looks back.
One interpretation – advocated by Monteverdi's opera, for example – is that the backward glance represents excessive passion and a fatal lack of self-control. Orpheus loves Eurydice to such excess that he tries to defy the laws of nature by bringing her back from the dead, yet that very same passion dooms his quest fo fail, because he can't resist the temptation to look back at her.
He can also be seen as succumbing to that classic "tragic flaw" of hubris, excessive pride. Because his music and his love conquer the Underworld, it might be that he makes the mistake of thinking he's entirely above divine law, and fatally allows himself to break the one rule that Hades and Persephone set for him.
Then there are the versions where his flaw is his lack of faith, because he looks back out of doubt that Eurydice is really there. I think there are three possible interpretations of this scenario, which can each work alone or else co-exist with each other. From what I've read about Hadestown, it sounds as if it combines all three.
In one interpretation, he doubts Hades and Persephone's promise. Will they really give Eurydice back to him, or is it all a cruel trick? In this case, the message seems to be a warning to trust in the gods; if you doubt their blessings, you might lose them.
Another perspective is that he doubts Eurydice. Does she love him enough to follow him? In this case, the warning is that romantic love can't survive unless the lovers trust each other. I'm thinking of Moulin Rouge!, which is ostensibly based on the Orpheus myth, and which uses Christian's jealousy as its equivalent of Orpheus's fatal doubt and explicitly states "Where there is no trust, there is no love."
The third variation is that he doubts himself. Could his music really have the power to sway the Underworld? The message in this version would be that self-doubt can sabotage all our best efforts.
But all of the above interpretations revolve around the concept that Orpheus looks back because of a tragic flaw, which wasn't necessarily the view of Virgil, the earliest known recorder of the myth. Virgil wrote that Orpheus's backward glance was "A pardonable offense, if the spirits knew how to pardon."
In some versions, when the upper world comes into Orpheus's view, he thinks his journey is over. In this moment, he's so ecstatic and so eager to finally see Eurydice that he unthinkingly turns around an instant too soon, either just before he reaches the threshold or when he's already crossed it but Eurydice is still a few steps behind him. In this scenario, it isn't a personal flaw that makes him look back, but just a moment of passion-fueled carelessness, and the fact that it costs him Eurydice shows the pitilessness of the Underworld.
In other versions, concern for Eurydice makes him look back. Sometimes he looks back because the upward path is steep and rocky, and Eurydice is still limping from her snakebite, so he knows she must be struggling, in some versions he even hears her stumble, and he finally can't resist turning around to help her. Or more cruelly, in other versions – for example, in Gluck's opera – Eurydice doesn't know that Orpheus is forbidden to look back at her, and Orpheus is also forbidden to tell her. So she's distraught that her husband seems to be coldly ignoring her and begs him to look at her until he can't bear her anguish anymore.
These versions highlight the harshness of the Underworld's law, and Orpheus's failure to comply with it seems natural and even inevitable. The message here seems to be that death is pitiless and irreversible: a demigod hero might come close to conquering it, but through little or no fault of his own, he's bound to fail in the end.
Another interpretation I've read is that Orpheus's backward glance represents the nature of grief. We can't help but look back on our memories of our dead loved ones, even though it means feeling the pain of loss all over again.
Then there's the interpretation that Orpheus chooses his memory of Eurydice, represented by the backward glance, rather than a future with a living Eurydice. "The poet's choice," as Portrait of a Lady on Fire puts it. In this reading, Orpheus looks back because he realizes he would rather preserve his memory of their youthful, blissful love, just as it was when she died, than face a future of growing older, the difficulties of married life, and the possibility that their love will fade. That's the slightly more sympathetic version. In the version that makes Orpheus more egotistical, he prefers the idealized memory to the real woman because the memory is entirely his possession, in a way that a living wife with her own will could never be, and will never distract him from his music, but can only inspire it.
Then there are the modern feminist interpretations, also alluded to in Portrait of a Lady on Fire but seen in several female-authored adaptations of the myth too, where Eurydice provokes Orpheus into looking back because she wants to stay in the Underworld. The viewpoint kinder to Orpheus is that Eurydice also wants to preserve their love just as it was, youthful, passionate, and blissful, rather than subject it to the ravages of time and the hardships of life. The variation less sympathetic to Orpheus is that Euyridice was at peace in death, in some versions she drank from the river Lethe and doesn't even remember Orpheus, his attempt to take her back is selfish, and she prefers to be her own free woman than be bound to him forever and literally only live for his sake.
With that interpretation in mind, I'm surprised I've never read yet another variation. I can imagine a version where, as Orpheus walks up the path toward the living world, he realizes he's being selfish: Eurydice was happy and at peace in the Elysian Fields, she doesn't even remember him because she drank from Lethe, and she's only following him now because Hades and Persephone have forced her to do so. So he finally looks back out of selfless love, to let her go. Maybe I should write this retelling myself.
Are any of these interpretations – or any others – the "true" or "definitive" reason why Orpheus looks back? I don't think so at all. The fact that they all exist and can all ring true says something valuable about the nature of mythology.

Can we talk about how amazing Shen Qingqiu actually is?? He wakes up in an unfamiliar room to an unfamiliar person talking like he knows him, and his first instinct is to play along to buy himself time to figure out the situation without endangering himself. He quickly puts it together and manages to outwardly keep his cool and assess the situation. At multiple times in the story he's forced to think quickly on his feet and he's GOOD at it, he realizes things fast, memorizes things easily, he's extremely studious and read through the entire Qing Jing library as soon as he realized where and who he was. He's quick witted and flexible with his thinking, great at problem solving, a great actor... Sure, he couldn't fool people into thinking he was the exact same as someone they had known for years, but he's great at keeping his thoughts and feelings on the inside while showing a cool, controlled, *confident* face to everyone else. Actually he's really good at genuinely taking control of situations in general, even when he IS internally screaming. Fake it til you make it WORKS for him, because even when he feels like he's faking, he is doing amazing work and showing great competense. On top of that he's very compassionate even when he doesn't necessarily want to be, and while he was given a body that had already become an immortal cultivator, he still put in a LOT of work to practice, refine and master that cultivation until it was completely natural and second nature for him to use it. And that's fucking AMAZING.
The only times his abilities fail him, really, is when he believes he already knows how something is supposed to go and thinking it's set in stone. He believes Luo Binghe must hate him, must want a harem, and that he himself isn't that important or desirable, and he believes it SO STRONGLY that he can't see past it until it's shoved directly in his face. That's the only times he truly acts like an oblivious idiot, and honestly can you blame him? Like I said, he believes those are facts set in stone, no matter how much the evidence contradicts it. The pitfall of having detailed future information of an alternate timeline, I suppose.
TL;DR: SQQ is a brilliant, quick witted, creative, intelligent and hard working man and I fucking LOVE that for him. He was the perfect candidate for filling the role of the academic peak's leader and the sect's strategist, because he shares all those same qualities with his predecessor (I'm assuming, I haven't actually read the SJ extras yet oops). The main thing setting them apart, really, is just that SY was raised to be *kind* where SJ was unfortunately raised to be cruel.
Chef's kiss, truly.

“and isn't it just so pretty to think, all along there was some invisible string tying you to me?”
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
You didn’t know his name, but you saw him almost everywhere.
Actually, you did know his name, Steve, but you didn’t really know him.
What you did know was that he had been a shitty group partner to have last semester for a history class, and that he had an on-again/off-again, more so off-again, relationship with your roommate who you had a polite but surface-level friendship with. He also frequented the diner you worked at a few minutes off campus with his basketball friends and dates; and you couldn’t help but notice that it was always a different girl each time.
Even though there were a bunch of opportunities for something to happen between you two, you’d never had an actual conversation with him. Not that you necessarily wanted to. But, after having the plethora of instances where you could’ve talked to one another, it sometimes surprised you that you didn’t at least have some sort of a friendship with this guy you’d see way too often.
You chalked it up to the fact that even though you two would share passing glances every so often with one another, you’d never been in a one-on-one situation with him.
Until you finally were, and it was in perhaps one of the worst and weirdest ways possible.
You were walking down a random aisle on the fourth floor of the campus library when you bumped into Steve. Well, “bumped” is a bit of an understatement because you quite literally tripped over him.
For some reason, he was sleeping in the middle of the aisle, and you didn’t notice until it was too late since your eyes were solely trained on the shelves as you searched for one book in particular.
“Jesus Christ,” You yelped as you tumbled to the ground, glad that your brain thought quick enough to put your hands out so that you didn’t completely faceplant.
When you looked at what caused you to fall and saw Steve leaning against a bookshelf with his legs out, you inwardly groaned because, of course, it was him.
“Ouch,” He said with a small yawn as he rubbed the leg that you tripped over. “Weird wake-up call.”
“Why the hell are you sleeping here?” You asked as you started to get up.
“I was trying to study for a test and then I got tired,” He shrugged and then finally looked at you. “Hey, you look crazy familiar.”
You almost laughed at that and thought about simply walking away from him, but decided against it. The universe clearly wanted you two to have a conversation with one another, so you decided to finally give it what it wanted.
“We were in the same group for a history project last semester,” You answered.
“Oh yeah,” He said and his eyes cast downward. “Sorry about that. I know I was probably the worst person in that group.”
“Very, very true,” You nodded, although you were no longer upset about that whole situation. Not that you were ever truly mad, anyway. “Also, you had, or maybe still have, some sort of fling going on with my roommate. Lissa.”
“That is definitely a past tense thing,” He responded with so much certainty that you silently wondered what happened between them. You weren’t close enough with Lissa to talk to her about that sort of thing, though.
“I think I’ve seen you somewhere else though, too,” Steve said and then thought for a moment. “Oh, you work at that diner, right?”
“Yup, mostly weekends but some weeknights too.”
Steve nodded at your words. “Huh, surprised we never talked before.”
You didn’t tell him that you had been thinking the same thing and instead decided to sit down across from him putting your legs out as well. “What class are you studying for?”
“Psychology,” He answered and then showed you the textbook next to him, which looked eerily familiar.
“With Dr. Brooke?”
Steve nodded and you fought the urge to look around to see if you were on some sort of elaborate prank show. Because it didn’t fully make sense to you how all of these fucking coincidences were happening.
“I’m in that class too,” You responded after a brief stint of silence.
In this case, it kind of made sense that you didn’t know he was also in that class because it was huge, with at least a hundred fifty people in that auditorium-type room.
“Wow,” Steve verbalized the surprise you were inwardly feeling. “Weird.”
You couldn’t help but finally let out a small laugh. “‘Wow’ and ‘weird’ are probably the understatements of the century.” You pulled your legs up and wrapped your arms around them. “I think we kind of have to be friends now. These coincidences are too fucking insane to not be.”
He smiled at you and there was something about it that made you fully understand why he so easily had a new girl to bring to the diner every week.
“What if I take you on a date?”
A part of you immediately felt surprised by his question and how abrupt it was. However, the other part of you sort of saw it coming because it made a little bit of sense. Case in point, the fact that you would frequently see him with a new girl. Asking someone out was probably equivalent to breathing for him.
“No,” You answered simply before standing up.
You didn’t notice the immediate confused look on his face as he followed suit and abruptly stood as well.
“Why not?”
There were a lot of reasons you could’ve given him as the answer to that question. Such as how he’d been with your roommate, and although you weren’t best friends with Lissa, something about it still felt at least a little wrong. Or the fact that the thought of being added to his list of conquests made you feel physically ill.
“I’d just rather not,” You ultimately answered with a small shrug and then started walking away. You quickly pushed away your lingering thought that told you that if the circumstances were different you would’ve fully considered saying yes to him.
Steve didn’t follow you as you walked away. Instead, the wheels in his brain started turning as he thought about how he could get you to go out with him, something told him that you would be harder to get than the majority of girls he’d been with before.
However, he never shied away from a challenge. In fact, there was a part of him that loved them.

“time, curious time. gave me no compasses, gave me no signs. were there clues i didn't see?”
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
Somehow through the hordes of people, Steve managed to find you the next day in your shared psychology class, and he sat right next to you.
“Hi, friend,” You said when you noticed him and smiled.
Before he could say anything in response, class started and the professor started speaking, almost immediately jumping into the lecture; and he was very intense about his no talking policy. As you half-listened to him discuss the final chapter that would be on the test next week and tried to take somewhat useful notes, you were interrupted by Steve bumping your elbow with his and sliding his notebook over to you.
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the action before you read what was written in the margin.
Do you like pizza?
You almost laughed at the randomness of the question. You met his curious gaze for a brief moment and then wrote your response.
Obviously. I’m not a psycho
You pushed the notebook back to Steve and then went back to paying attention to the lecture. Moments later, he slid it back toward you.
Wanna get some tonight? I know a really good place a few minutes off campus
If it’s just a friendly hangout then yes
No. Date?
You rolled your eyes at the question and moved the notebook back toward him without saying anything. You could see in your peripheral that he was adding something else before pushing the notebook to you.
Please?
You crossed out that question and his previous words, and then under it drew a tic-tac-toe board, putting an X in the middle.
You watched as Steve made his move, an O in the top left corner, and then wrote something else.
If I win, will you say yes?
Your one worded response was immediate.
No.
And then you made your move, putting an X under his O.
He didn’t write anything else, which you were actually surprised about, and instead just continued playing tic-tac-toe. You won the first game, and then he won the next two, and you were close to starting another one with him, because you wanted to redeem yourself, but you forced yourself to listen to the end of the lecture.
“So pizza date tonight? I’ll pick you up at 8?” Steve asked when class was over, and the both of you started packing your things.
You laughed a bit. “I think we have very different memories of the conversation that just took place in your notebook.”
He opened his mouth to respond, but you were glad when he was bombarded by a few of his basketball friends. You used that opportunity to slip away and out of the room without having to say anything else to him.

“gave me the blues and then purple pink skies. and it's cool, baby, with me.”
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
Surprisingly enough, when Friday night rolled around, Steve showed up at the diner alone; for the first time probably ever.
You didn’t say anything to him aside from giving him a small wave, which he returned with a smile.
You weren’t the waitress taking care of him that night, and you could tell that Casey, who you worked with most nights, was also surprised to see him by himself because just like you, she was used to seeing him with girl after girl.
Toward the end of your shift, you slid into Steve’s booth, sitting across from him. “You’re probably bored out of your mind being here alone, aren’t you?”
He shrugged nonchalantly and then took a bite from one of the few stray fries left on his plate. “I’d rather be alone if it’s not gonna be you sitting across from me.”
You pretended as if his words had no affect on you, even though they slightly pulled at your heart. You had to remind yourself of his track record, most of which you’d seen firsthand. And because of that, you also reminded yourself that you could only be friends with him.
“Very smooth,” You said and then slid back out of the booth. “But, also probably the cheesiest line I’ve ever heard.”
“It’s the truth.” You heard him say as you walked away, and you couldn’t help but smile as you rolled your eyes.
Barely ten minutes later, he went up to where you stood behind the counter putting napkins in a dispenser. His bill was paid and you had expected him to leave at any moment, and you hated that the thought of him leaving made you feel a little bit sad.
“What time are you done here?”
You met his gaze. “In exactly five minutes, actually.”
“Can we do something after?” He asked and when you tilted your head at him, he followed up with, “I promise I only have the friendliest of intentions.”
“I finally brought you to the friendship side?”
“No, but for this instance, yes.”
That managed to make you smile a bit. “Can we go to that pizza place you were talking about? If they’re still open?”
“Yeah, it is. They close at three because the stoner crowd usually shows up around one and that’s peak business.”
“Makes sense,” You nodded.  “I don’t drive, so I’ll meet you at your car.”
A confused look crossed Steve’s face. “You don’t drive? How do you get here?”
“I walk from my dorm, it’s only about ten minutes,” You answered with a small shrug.
“Oh, okay,” He responded, and didn't say it aloud to you, but he now knew that he would make it his mission to pick you up at the end of your shifts so that you wouldn’t have to walk alone in the dark anymore. “I’ll meet you outside.”
When you stepped out of the diner, a minute earlier than expected, you were quick to get in Steve’s car.
“Do you have a sweater or something I could wear? I left my jacket at home,” You asked, not really thinking too much of the question because you hated wearing the baby blue dress that was your uniform anywhere other than the diner.
Steve reached into the backseat and handed you a hoodie, which you immediately slipped over your head. The hoodie swallowed you whole and made it look as if you weren’t wearing anything underneath, but it felt so comfortable that you couldn’t even bring yourself to care.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
“hell was the journey but it brought me heaven.”
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
“What are you thinking?” Steve asked when you both finally decided to leave the pizza place around two in the morning. He had walked you to the passenger side of his car, but before you opened the door to get inside, you turned around to face him and you didn’t say anything as you met his eyes, which was what prompted his previous question.
There was a lot that you were thinking right then, and most of the thoughts surrounded the fact that you had thoroughly enjoyed yourself on this “non-date” with Steve. He was genuinely nice and funny, and such a fucking charmer that it made you want to roll your eyes while giggling at his words. And he was being honest about keeping things friendly for the most part, although you had a feeling that not being a least a little flirty was impossible for him.
And it was all of that put together, that made one thought sit heavily at the forefront of your mind.
“I think I wanna kiss you,” You finally answered, and you were surprisingly not scared by your complete honesty.
He smiled at that and his hands found your hips as he moved the tiniest bit closer to you and his next two words came out softly. “Do it.”
You had to pull your eyes away from his because you were so close to listening to him.
“I can’t.” Your voice was quiet.
“Why not?”
“Because I really just want us to be friends.”
“We can still just be friends even if you kiss me right now,” Steve told you, and although you were unsure if you fully believed him, you still decided to take his word for it and you pushed yourself up on your toes a bit to press your lips against his.
You could tell he was initially surprised by the abruptness of it, but he kissed you back almost immediately. Your arms came up to wind around the nape of his neck to steady yourself as your back was pressed into the side of the car.
It felt almost surreal how much better this was than you thought it would be. Your mouths moved against each other so seamlessly, almost as if this was already something that had happened a million times before.
You expected to be able to kiss Steve once as a way to sort of get the attraction you felt toward him out of your system so that you could then let things become completely normal and solely friendly between you two. But, right then– with his lips against yours, and one hand on your waist and the other cupping your cheek– you were hit with the sudden thought that you would need this to happen so many more times.
You didn’t necessarily want to pull away from Steve at that moment, but you had to because you were completely out of breath.
“That was— That was really good.” Your lips were still tingly as you licked them and you felt slightly light-headed, but in a good way, if that was possible.
Steve pressed a chaste kiss against your cheek. “You sure you wanna still be just friends?”
That was the question that you now were unsure of the answer to.
However, a small “yes” was what you responded with after what felt like a year’s worth of silence, and you could hear exactly how unconvincing you sounded.
Steve nodded and you could tell that he was pretending to believe you. “Okay.”
He was about to finally pull away from you, but you stopped him. “What if…What if we are just friends, but we can kiss and maybe do other things,” Your mouth was moving much quicker than your mind could fully process the words you were saying. And you weren’t entirely sure how you felt about what you were proposing, but most of it seemed really good to you. “But, you shouldn’t date people, and I won’t either.”
“Okay,” Steve responded, smiling amusingly at your words. “But, this is starting to sound a lot different from a friendship.”
“Shh,” You said as you slotted your lips against his again. You knew how all of that sounded, but it made you feel a little better about the situation you were putting yourself in because you convinced yourself that you couldn’t get hurt this way. And aside from kissing Steve, not getting hurt was all that really mattered to you right then.

Y'know I'm not going to go and argue with people but I'm. kinda weirded out by the "Shen Yuan's family was actually neglectful/awful/abusive" takes? Because we have a story where:
a point is made about cycles of violence and how abuse creates more abuse (with Qiu Jianluo - Shen Jiu - Bing-ge sequence).
a point is made about how the person can turn out very differently depending on their environment growing up (with differences between Bing-ge and Bing-mei).
And like... how does one look at those two points, then at Shen Yuan saying he had a loving family, and forgoes the obvious conclusion - that growing up in a stable home is what sets him apart in the world of PIDW (including from literal author of the world who is a lonely and embittered child of the divorce!) and allows him to change it with the power of love & kindness & bonding with people - in favor of deciding that his family was ~actually~ horrible?..
In that case, what makes him capable of breaking the cycle? Some kind of innate goodness or kindness? That, for some reason, no other character happened to possess? Right. Nice going completely devaluing Shen Jiu's tragedy.
To explain the last point: we get a lot of backstory for Shen Jiu, and the obvious takeaway from it is that he was not born a scum villain. That he did have a desire to do (and be) good, but it just couldn't flourish - because of a combination of terrible circumstances of his youth, his personal flaws, and the demands of the meta-narrative.
Thing is... two of those problems, he shares with Shen Yuan. Shen Yuan has his own personal flaws aplenty, even if they differ from Shen Jiu's, and a literal manifestation of the meta-narrative haunting him. But, unlike Shen Jiu, he happened to have a good family. That is their fundamental difference.
If one argues that Shen Yuan's family situation actually wasn't good, then what allows him to be so different from Shen Jiu? Isn't that saying that Shen Yuan was just a good person from the start... and Shen Jiu was just a bad person from the start? you know, the exact sentiment that made Shen Jiu give up on himself? And isn't it flattening Shen Jiu's story from a tragedy of a person who was broken out of his desire to do good by his terrible circumstances, into just 'a bad guy doing bad things because he's bad'? like, exactly what Airplane did to him in PIDW...
---
But, some of you may ask, don't we have evidence that Shen Yuan wasn't actually very happy in his past life?
Thing is, I don't disagree with that! I just think it didn't necessarily have anything to do with the quality of his home life.
For starters, having a loving family is not everything. Like, even if you just look at Maslow's pyramid, "love and belonging" is actually in the middle of the thing. Shen Yuan could have a perfectly fine, caring family and still be unfulfilled on "esteem" (recognition and respect from other ppl + personal feelings of accomplishment) and "self-actualization" (becoming the best possible version of himself) levels.
And that's before we factor in that he's a(n obviously if you read between the lines) queer dude who grew up in a country that criminalizes queerness which is something I don't see brought up a lot in discussions of the strength of his internalized homophobia, and the possibility that he is an undiagnosed neurodivergent person (i personally hc him as having adhd-I, i know there are also ppl with autistic headcanons, could be both, etc etc), and the influence of his social circle outside his family (cishet dudes on the forums, from what he know, so not the most positive and uplifting bunch)...
---
Lastly, while I think the thematic evidence from the first half of this meta is more telling, there are also a few small in-text details that prove Shen Yuan's words about how close-knit his family was.
First, the way he compares Yue Qingyuan to his older brothers in the very beginning, at the time he is still finding his footing and YQY is the one person looking out for him. (On the subject of SY!SQQ and YQY, just read this post, I won't be able to put it better.) Shen Yuan is explicitly "feeling at home in the atmosphere of brotherly love".
Second, the fact that we know he read his younger sister's danmei novels. On Shen Yuan's side, literally how committed he had to be to supporting his sister's interests, when we know from being in his head how determined he is about playing ostrich with anything and everything gay. No shit he spoiled her, I believe that one hundred percent. And on his sister's side, the level of trust she has towards her brother? Having full confidence that she could make him read gay bdsm and he wouldnt love her any less?..
---
So yeah, I think all signs point to Shen family being as close-knit and loving as Shen Yuan says.

Hey there! In all the talk about popularity, I wanted to talk about one of the ways I've helped myself get interaction on ao3. I used to shy away from leaving author's notes on ao3 because, idk, ao3 seemed a little more austere than the goofiness that went on with author's notes on ffnet, but when I started leaving author's notes, I saw a slight uptick in comments.
It wasn't a ton, mind you, and this isn't going to help if you're not getting the views to begin with, but I find that author's notes can help prompt people on what to say in a comment, if they're the type who struggle, or you can even explicitly say what kinds of comments you're happy or not too happy to receive. It's not quite my style, but something like "if you don't know what to say in a comment, leave a ❤️!" might give some people the permission that they need.
What I've done is ask particular questions about what the readers thought about X moment of symbolism or Y moment between the characters, and then I see comments that are direct answers to that question. I would advise not to necessarily write paragraphs on paragraphs in the author's notes, but as long as I've been reading fanfiction, I've loved seeing little tidbits about what was going on in an author's life when they were writing a fic, and as a writer, it feels wild to read author's notes from years past and see exactly what I was going through as well. It's something worth doing, imo! You might feel a little more connected to your readers this way. Not everyone will read it, but some will! I will!
I think another thing that author's notes can do is show that the author is a person. A fan, just like the reader. It can make the author seem less, well, scary.
By starting off the conversation part of things yourself, it takes a bit of the pressure off for a shy commenter. They don't have to figure out what to say and how to say it because you've done that work for them.
I'm also a big fan of encouraging emojis. I actually remember when they added the emoji capability back in 2018 and it was fantastic news! To me, emojis can increase the accessibility of commenting. For people who have an easier time typing on a computer but they prefer reading on a phone, suddenly they can share their thoughts. If it's someone who can read in a particular language but isn't comfortable writing in it, then emojis can help them get their point across without hunting for words or worrying they might accidentally be rude.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, and sorry for rambling in response. :)

What Are You Manifesting?
The Piles:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘈 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦
Tumblr media
Pile One:
Song: Love On The Brain -Rihanna; I Gotta Find Peace Of Mind (Live) -Ms. Lauryn Hill; Let Me Go -Daniel Caesar
Side Note: Man, this pile is heavy on the emotions. I almost cried channeling these songs for you. I hope you manifest all the love and healing you need, take care my love <3.
Angel Number: 7, 77, 777
Channeled Words: Critical, horoscope, behead, flourish, hip, ghostwriter, attract, pipe, replace, difficulty.
Channeled Names: Naila, Yeseniya, Fadhili, Korneli, Göstav, Klara, Hyeon-Ju, Irene, Feidhelm, Kazuhiko, Domingo, Viola, Violetta, Olivia.
So, what I'm getting from your energy is that you're manifesting openness, vulnerability, and honesty. Of course that isn't the only thing you're manifesting, there is a very exciting, passionate, and confident energy you're going to be embracing. I feel like for some of you, you could be manifesting a union with someone you feel very strongly about. They may not come off as socially appropriate or acceptable. I feel like they have a bit of a bad reputation and people have judged them harshly because of it. I feel like this is someone you know from your past and maybe you guys used to link up and casually have sex or don't necessarily intend to have sex, but it happens. I feel like you have a lot of self-control and know when to limit yourself. Sexually, financially, lustfully, even when it comes to fun, drinking, smoking, anything that could potentially turn into a bad habit or addiction. You also know when to limit distractions and set boundaries and I feel like the person who could be from your past, doesn't know how to balance out their time and energy with their responsibilities. They may let their fears, addictions, bad habits, and desires control them more than their heart and mind. I feel like you're manifesting something long term and serious. You aren't playing games and I'm hearing you can "get it" anytime you want it, but you don't care to accept the bare minimum. You've had your fun and fair share of escapism and I feel like now you're ready to build abundance in all aspects. That goes for financial stability, success, a happy family, and wealth. I feel like you're someone who will hold it down for a person you really love and value. This could be how you feel towards someone you may or may not be talking to right now. I feel like loving them brought you happiness and pulled you out of a dark place. I feel like you loved this person a lot and wanted to build a home with them. It pushed you to mature and heal because you knew you had to be a better you in order to be focused and determined on the goals you have. I feel like this person feels like they lose their self-control around you. They're very attracted to you, and they fear how they feel for you because they know if they let you too close to them, you have the ability to hurt them, reject them, or make them feel less of themselves, but you wouldn't do that. They're just afraid of intimacy. Loving them has been a challenge for you, but you said, "challenge accepted". I feel like you didn't take no for an answer, you're persistent, confident, patient, & I'm seeing you've put in hard work and effort into this situation. But not only in this situation, you've worked on yourself, your family, and your priorities. You aren't chasing them or even focused on the negatives. I'm seeing you've manifested so much that you don't even realize. You've manifested clarity, peace, stability, strength, wisdom, & even a new mentality. That's not all spirit is saying, you also manifested a very big opportunity that will bring balance to every part of your life. You may not see this now, but you will very soon. You're in this period of realizing who you are, what you believe in, what you want out of life, & more. It's like things have been moving slow and at a very steady pace for you. It's like this saying, "It's slow to get rich, and fast to go broke". I feel like that applies in many ways. Good things take time. You can't rush success or progress; you build it and watch it grow. This person can have extremely high standards and boundaries. I feel like it's been so hard for you to get close to their heart and get them to open up to you. One of the most important things you are manifesting is freedom and release from this relationship that's held you back emotionally. You've been holding on emotionally and maybe even mentally and physically for others, but spirit is saying to let go. Let the inevitable happen. When a situation is falling apart over and over and just not working, that is a big sign you're resisting change.
It's important to control what you can control and that's you. You have power over yourself and nothing else. You create the life you want by treating yourself the way you want to be treated and not allowing others to dismiss you and influence you negatively. You do not have to tolerate people who do not want to love you the way you deserve to be loved. You are manifesting so much love in your life and I feel like even if this situation didn't work out as planned, you are manifesting a long term relationship with someone who really compliments you and helps bring in balance just as you do for them. I see you pushing each other to be your best selves, supporting each other, nurturing, providing, teaching, healing, all that good stuff. This is someone you can create a family with.
Tumblr media
Pile Two:
Song: One More Night -Maroon 5; Higher -Tems; A Change Is Gonna Come -Sam Cooke
Angel Number: 6, 66, 666
Channeled Words: Crack, disco, microphone, tissue, latest, ally, influence, chauvinist, kidnap, slot.
Channeled Names: Parris, Svetlana, Carlotta, Marcus, Ayan, Samyukatha, Miklo, Fernando, Jason, Olivia, Nazar, Dema, Ahriman, Alijah.
You're manifesting growth, possibilities, answers, awareness, love, & so much more. Right now, things aren't as tangible as you would like them to be. Your manifestations may not be appearing on the surface or showing up right on your door step, but the energy is there. I feel like you're learning very important lessons. There is something you are being called to do and I feel like you've been hesitant about making a decision or a choice. Your emotions were clouding your perception in the recent past and I feel like it's made you feel very confused and indecisive. There's been a lot of temporary situations and I feel like you've made the choice of investing your time and love into the wrong things. I'm seeing you learning from this and managing your ego in a much healthier way. You may have made choices impulsively without thinking of the consequences and this is because you acted on a feeling. You're learning that not every feeling needs to be acted upon. We must know what is right for us and what isn't. Sometimes are own feelings can deceive us, which is why we must learn to be more mindful and trust our intuition when we're feeling a certain way about something. I feel like there was a situation you had a hard time trying to understand, and you may have continuously questioned yourself trying to figure out the truth about why it is you feel the way you do about something or someone. For some of you, you kept going back to a person you had an unstable relationship with even though you felt in your body you shouldn't have. You may have ignored your intuition and allowed this person to come in and be emotionally deceptive and manipulative to you. For others of you, I feel like you just had a hard time making the smartest decisions because of your emotions. You haven't had a peace of mind for a while, but I see you manifesting this energy within yourself. It's like a whole new you. This phase of your life is coming to an end and you're changing in ways you probably didn't think you would. I feel like for the most part, you knew change was inevitable and nothing stays the same forever. I see you getting a wish fulfillment and feeling really inspired by these new lessons you're learning. When I say inspired by them, I mean you're ready to use the knowledge you've gained and apply it to your life. This is a powerful change even if it may seem small to you. I see you releasing your fears of the past and embracing the good times you had. You may be fearful of intimacy and opening up to people because you've been betrayed, deceived, and hurt. It's hard sometimes to learn how to trust in love again. I feel like you will be overcoming the things that hold you back from being your best self and stepping into a more disciplined, stable, hardworking, and passionate energy. You know when to use your logic and when to set boundaries. It took you some time to gain the self-control you have now, but you manifested this for yourself and because of that you will be able to create long term success, relationships, and build a home for you and your family. People from your past will try and pop back up into your life but use your discernment. For those of you with someone you are struggling with romantically, I feel like this person tries to be very kind, lighthearted, and maybe even flirts with you. I feel like they really like you they just have a hard time being confident, secure, and in their best energy. They've been feeling really insecure and doubtful about themselves because they've hurt you and disappointed you because of their ego. I know you might be upset with them, but spirit is saying to have compassion and understanding. We all make mistakes as humans and we shouldn't change ourselves because someone else hurt us. Even though pain can change us, it doesn't have to be negatively. I feel like this person was very depressed and pessimistic about love. They had a bad attitude when it came to seeing the bigger picture.
They may have lied to you, didn't express how they felt emotionally, played games with you, and maybe even rude towards you when you didn't do anything. I feel like you've been doing your best to understand them, have compassion, patience, and be supportive but they still weren't satisfied. Conversations with this person may have turned into disagreements, conflict, arguments, and them just wanting to be right. They didn't even understand how they felt and why they acted the way they did because I feel like they were acting from a place of insecurity and fear. They let their ego get the best of them and I feel like they're realizing it within themselves, but this isn't something they talk to you about often. I do see you that you guys have discussed it before, but not in a healthy way. They may have come off very rude about it and hurt your feelings without any consideration of how they made you feel. It's like they use honesty to be malicious. They act like if they are honest with you, then it's okay for them to be prideful and arrogant. Anyways, they know your worth. They know the type of person you are and they see you in a positive light, they just don't feel like way about themselves. They could be jealous. Jealous because they don't feel as good about themselves as you do. You're loving, compassionate, nurturing, healing, smart, patient, abundant, self-reliant, and to them you have it all together. Even though they have all of these qualities, they compare themselves to you. I'm seeing that right now you're feeling this energy of very deep emotion and love. You could feeling particularly empathetic and intuitive. It's a heightened sense of spiritual awareness. Spirit is saying that mentally you haven't come to this awareness of how you feel. It's like you don't understand the lesson or message you're supposed to be receiving through your mind. It could be that all the hard work and effort you've been putting into your manifestations are coming to fruition and it has to do with love as well. You're healing and overcoming hard times you thought you'd never get over. I see someone from your past that took advantage of your time and energy wanting to communicate with you about how they've been feeling. I see them bringing up old memories and past moments you've shared when times were good between you and wanting to move forward with you in some way. I see you feeling stuck in your head about this person and not really knowing why you feel the way you do and it's because there is an opportunity you manifested with this person to be able to start something long term together. You're having a difficult time letting go of the past memories and experiences that hurt you and that's why you aren't seeing this opportunity, but you will. I see them speaking their mind to you and helping you get clarity over how you feel. Right now, is a good time to listen to how you feel and trust your intuition. Don't listen to your fear. Open yourself up to love and opportunities coming your way.
Pile Three:
Song: November Rain -Guns N' Roses; Here Comes The Sun -The Beatles
Angel Number: 4, 44, 444
Channeled Words: Soft, sofa, flexible, X-ray, single, spit, flush, condition, flood, extort, pain, carnival, octopus, sing, candy, tattoos.
Channeled Names: Polya, Simon, Raheim, Bhaskar, Achaikos, Krastyu, Gabriella, Alicia, Nathan, Eva, Gabriele, Alejandro.
I see you coming out of a period of solitude. You've been spending time alone trying to calm your mind and connect with yourself. I feel like you've also been using this time alone to heal and overcome this heartache you felt. It made you feel insecure and unworthy of happiness, and I feel like you're manifesting many opportunities to create abundance and happiness for your life. You've grown self-reliant and emotionally content with yourself and where you are in life. If you don't feel this way, I see this coming in for you. You're going to be starting something new and venturing off into new horizons, seeking adventure and fun. I feel like your life has been a bit mundane and routine and you're wanting to do things differently and open yourself up to joy and feeling more of a free-spirited energy. Something very unexpected is going to happen very quickly is what I'm hearing, and I feel like intuitively you may have felt it coming or just had this inner knowing, but whatever it is it's going to be an outcome that you are happy with. It is divine intervention and I feel like God is doing things behind the scenes to help a situation come into fruition for you. For some of you, it is a long-term relationship with someone you know or been with and have shared very deep sentimental experiences together. For others of you, you're deepening your spiritual beliefs and your faith. I'm seeing that God is going to do something that will help strengthen your faith even more. Continue being generous and giving to those in need. Whether it be words of wisdom, love, time, money, whatever it is you're doing to help someone else. In terms of love, I see you or someone else making a decision to communicate. There has been distance emotionally, physically, maybe even all together and I see that for some of you, you're going to see this person face to face, for others maybe over text or the phone, it could even be at a social event. Some type of apology will be made, and I feel like it'll have something to do with how you guys' left things or treated each other in the past. I see there is a very good chance you two can end up together for a long time. Don't rush anything or be impulsive. Take your time and be patient with the way things progress. In general, I see you've manifested this whole entire spiritual rebirth and a lot of things in your life are going to be changing. I see that when you get to this place in your life when you're financially and/or materially abundant, spirit is saying to be wise on how you spend your blessings. This goes for your time, energy, money, love, all that stuff. Don't be impulsive and let bad habits put you in a place where you may lose your abundance or take it for granted. I feel like it could go good or it could go bad. It'll be different for everyone, but the chances of things going well are really high as long as you allow them to be. Take care of yourself. Manage your time, energy, and resources in a practical and diligent way.

I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your insight and generosity with your perspective as an anti-zionist israeli, something you absolutely don't owe us but I feel immense amounts of respect and admiration for. from an American jew, it's been so valuable to know there are people like you out there, it's made everything feel much less hopeless despite all the hopelessness. I've felt very alone recently, surrounded by all the Jewish people in my life who are pro-israel and don't seem to grasp the gravity of the situation and my pro-palestine gentile friends, and I've felt very alone in my grief as I've only really started to unpack and dismantle my own biases very recently. reading your posts and your perspective on everything has just made me feel very seen as a jew in this situation, especially as I try to reconcile my feelings about everything going on with my own feelings about my faith and my identity.
you've probably seen that I've gone through a lot of your posts and that I've followed you. i just want you to know that I'm not necessarily following you just for that, I know you're just a fandom blog, it's just that after looking through your posts I feel like you're just a really nice person and seeing yoi on my dash from you would be endearing coming from you even though im not into it myself.
just. thank you again for sharing your story and continuing to share. you have no idea how much it's helped me.
I'm in tears. I've been crying way more than usual over the past couple of months, but it's nice for a change to have those tears to come from being touched instead of grief. I apologize if I'm going to ramble.
You say I didn't owe you all this, but I do feel responsible. I'm watching so much destruction and seeing how comfortable people around me are with the loss of life. This is why I've been talking about what we do and not as much about the impact of October 7 on me or people I know. I did a bit of that in the beginning, but pretending it was the start of everything to keep going back to that one day, after two months of horror, as if I can't count past 7... I didn't choose to be born where I am, I didn't choose to grow up in the most extremist community this place has to offer. But since I'm here, since I'm comfortable at the expense of Palestinians and violence is being done in my name and I have the tools to highlight issues within my society, I think it's a moral obligation.
I know how I talk about things here, and that's genuinely because I don't want to minimize the severity of the racism and the nationalism in Israel. And someone perceived my words as showing hatred for Israelis. But... I love my people. I don't expect those who see or experience our violence to feel the same or even understand me, but I do. It's my neighbors and my childhood friends and my family. It's children I see playing outside and getting excited when they see I have a cat, and the random people who stop me in the street and give me directions if they think I look lost.
Even growing up in the West Bank settlements, the people were very good to me. I needed years to internalize the fact that this kindness doesn't get extended to you if you're not part of the in-group. It broke my heart. It still does. Seeing people who I know are capable of kindness and compassion, hardening themselves against the pain of other human beings. Closing their eyes and telling themselves it isn't real. It's all an act.
I told a friend I feel like I'm betraying my mom, who was deeply bigoted, but also a wonderful mother. She taught me a lot of the principles that are guiding me now - I just took down the walls she put around who deserves to be considered. She'd be horrified with seeing the things I'm saying if she was still alive. But she taught me to care about people, I just decided it means all people.
Everyone should be prioritizing Palestinian liberation, and at the same time, I care about this too. I care about the morality of my people. I need us to be better than this. I want to dismantle the nationalism that teaches us hate and violence so we can start to heal and come to terms with what we did (and still do) here. I want us to fix what we can and hold ourselves accountable. I want us to reimagine safety in a way that doesn't cause harm, and build good relationships with the rest of humanity. Every marginalized community is experiencing bigotry in interactions with every other community, that's just how these things work. But I believe healing the world, and healing my society, is possible.
And it's hard, because so much of what we learn is rooted in truth. Antisemitism is real. Millennia of persecution are real. The trauma we carry is real. If the idea of an ethnostate makes us feel safe, and the idea of losing it makes us scared, how do we differentiate between fear as a natural reaction to antisemitic violence and fear that was taught to us for the sake of nationalism? Especially those of us living in Israel, immersed in the propaganda. It doesn't matter in practice, our feelings of safety or fear don't justify an ethnostate, especially not one built on top of another nation, but it matters for the conversations I have with people.
And I said that the violence I'm seeing feels like an attack on my identity. Seeing a giant hannukiyah in Gaza, when Hannukah tells the story of occupied people fighting off their oppressors. Seeing images that echo so much of the horrors that were done to us. The Magen David being used with hate and spite. It's all so painful. And I love this land, it's the only home I've known, so seeing us destroying nature and soaking it with blood and calling that connection?
Judaism does guide me here. The concept of tikkun olam. The idea of לא עליך המלאכה לגמור ולא אתה בין חורין לבטל ממנה - doing what I can, even if what I'm able to do isn't some decisive blow that entirely turns the tide. The idea that every human being is a whole entire world, to me it means that every single person alive is worth fighting for. So no matter how much death I see, there's still worlds more to save.
And Jewitches had this post that felt just healing to read. Nationalism hijacked our culture, and it will always leave a mark for centuries into the future. But I'm not letting go, and I'm not letting that create a rift between me and thousands of years full of history I can be proud of.
I feel your grief. And I'm grateful for the anti-zionist Jews I met by talking about this, because honestly, I need you people in my life. The pain and the anger are both easier to hold together.
So, thank you for following. I might follow back, just to see you around on my feed. And thank you for sending this. Feel free to message me anytime for any reason (I promise it won't result in a lecture every time).
Also, your url gave me pjo nostalgia

MAIN MASTERLIST
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Tumblr media
"Hi, I'm Chan, or Chris, depends what you wanna call me, haha! I'm 26 and I'm originally from Australia!"
"It's a bit weird isn't it? Coming onto a show like this, but I thought, hey, there's a chance I could find the love of my life on this show," Chan shrugged, before giggling shyly and looking down at his lap. "Someone who just gets me for me would be nice."
"The last time I was in a relationship wow... It was amazing. I'm actually still friends with my ex, which may sound weird, but there was no bad blood, we were just too busy with our own work lives. So that may be something I'm worried about, you could say?"
"I'm a producer, and my ex was a singer, so it seemed like a match made in heaven. But I have to work a lot, and I like getting stuck in, too much I've been told," Chan pulled an 'oops' face as he shared his work habits. "I think it's just shown me how important it is to have that strong connection. When I meet my wife, I'm going to be spending to rest of my life with her. So I'm going to make sure she knows that I'm there for her, and hope the same feeling is returned."
Tumblr media
"I'm Minho and I'm 25."
"I'm kinda here to prove my friends from home wrong. They think that I wouldn't be able to have a stable marriage and I thought, I know I can. The more and more I thought about it, it would be... nice to meet someone, yeah," Minho smiled at the camera bashfully. "As long as they can handle me, I can handle them."
"I did just come out of a 4 year relationship, it was, hard. It feels sort of awkward to say but I do miss having someone there next to me where I can just appreciate the little things," he felt awkward as he said it, "that felt too weird to say. Forget I ever said that."
"I work in a cat cafe, one that I own, which is my dream job. I get to see all the cute cats all day and the people are ok too, haha," Minho chuckled. "They're good at keeping me company, and it's nice having someone there. Did I mention that?"
"I'm hoping that out of this process, when I meet my wife that she'll have a big heart, because mine is open."
Tumblr media
"My name is Changbin and I'm 24," a man with broad shoulders and a toned chest accentuated by a tight shirt sat down in front of the camera.
"I think people think that being a personal trainer, I'd have met a lot of girls and already have a girlfriend by now, but that's not necessarily the case," Changbin grins and scratches the back of his neck.
"Yeah, I love my job but you know... things have to stay professional," he pretended to push his hands away from him as if representing the distance. "I just want someone who is fun and will want to have fun being with me."
"My last relationship hmmm... we were just kids. It was 6 years ago so I've changed a lot since then. It was fun, I can't deny that but there was so much ahead of us that it felt impossible to stay together," Changbin wisely reflected in his past relationship. "I know that maybe if things were different we would have still been together but, the world has a strange way of making things happen."
"It's definitely shaped me into the person I am today," he cheekily flexed his arms before continuing, "but seriously, I really am just looking forward to the process, and of course meeting my wife."
Tumblr media
"Hi, I'm Hyunjin and I'm 23!"
"If I'm being honest, this is really weird... so weird! But it's exciting too, like I could fine 'the one' through this experiment. And I hope whoever walks down that aisle will know that I'm here and willing to give them my all," Hyunjin was confident as he spoke on camera, laughing at first at the absurdity of it all despite him choosing to join the experiment.
"I recently just had a breakup around 6 months ago..." he was almost sheepish in admitting it, "which sounds crazy but I'm at that stage where I feel so ready to settle down and commit to someone. This is the perfect opportunity."
"What I really love doing is working as an artist. I get quite highly paid commissions," Hyunjin winked at the camera as he adjusted his hair. "It's a good way to express what I'm feeling if I can't necessarily say it. But once I meet my wife, I think I'll get a lot better at that. She'll be the most important person in my life, after all."
Tumblr media
"Helllooooo! I'm Jisung and I'm 23!"
"It's about time I found someone, I'm gonna say it just like that," he chuckled, looking away. "I see everyone around me and they've all got partners but I want to find someone too. They've got to be funny, and, it would be nice if they were the life of the party, because sometimes I can feel quite shy and introverted. If they've got the energy then so do I."
"I've not had a relationship before. Sure I've dated but I find it hard to see what the future will hold sometimes. So this will probably help me grow a lot and see sides to myself that I've never seen before. I'm excited," Jisung's eyes squinted as he was so happy of what his marriage would bring him.
"I've written so many love songs recently, you wouldn't believe it. I produce for other people but I hope one day I can get my own music out there," Jisung shared his hopes and dreams to the camera. "I hope my wife is someone who is supportive in that sense. Because I'll back her 100%, no matter what she does. We'll be like this," he crosses his fingers tightly.
Tumblr media
"Hi! I'm Felix and I'm 23," a cute man with delicate features beamed at the camera, his freckles very apparent.
"This is like the perfect thing for me to do. I just love meeting new people, so if I can find someone who is my best friend and likes being affectionate and is someone I can know on a deeper level, that itself would be the ideal experience for me," he waved his hands around slightly as he spoke.
"I've been single for 3 years. The last person I was with... They really had a grip on my heart, but I had to take a look at what was better for me, healthier for me. I wasn't getting that love I needed so it ended for the right reasons. And I'm happier now that I can actually say that to myself," Felix was quieter and more soft spoken as he explained.
"My real passion is baking. I love seeing how people react to what I make for them, I think food is my love language haha," Felix leant forward as he laughed. "If my wife will be willing to try what I bake them that's already gonna make my heart go pitter patter."
Tumblr media
"My name is Seungmin and I'm 23 years old."
"I'm here for love. I'm a busy guy and I haven't had time to form a real strong connection with someone, so I'm hoping this show will do that for me," Seungmin explained it plain and simple. "I don't know if I could be with someone too soft hearted, you've gotta be able to handle my teasing because if you cry... I don't know what to do, haha."
"2 years, it's been, I think? Yeah, 2 years. Not the best thing seeing your girlfriend at the time sneaking around with your boss, but," Seungmin sighed, nodding his head as he got through his last words on the question, "things happen. I moved on eventually and so I'm ready to find someone that will be faithful, at the very least, and will hopefully understand my wariness at the start."
"I work for a big company in the city, don't worry I won't name drop," Seungmin smirks as he looks off camera to the staff operating the interview. "It's a lot to handle, sure, but knowing I'd have someone special in my life to come home to, where we can share now our days went, that's what I want. What I need."
Tumblr media
"I'm 22 and my name is Jeongin."
"If I can meet someone who is the light in my life, I'll be hook, line and sinker for them," he grinned widely. "I want to do all the couple things and go on movie dates and nice dinners, and yeah," he shrugged after, not knowing what else to say.
"My last relationship ended a year ago. It was short but at the end of the day it was better for both of us. We each had our own things going on in our lives that we just couldn't be there for each other anymore," Jeongin bravely admitted that the breakdown of the relationship had happened because of both sides.
"I'm a kindergarten teacher so I'm working with kids all day, they're so sweet though, it's cute. I'm used to high energy all the time so to have someone to destress with, have that safe space at home would bring some comfort," he was happy when talking about his job, it was something he loved doing, working with children. "I think this process will be interesting for sure, but I know that coming out of this I'll meet someone who will change my life for the better."

Hey! I was just wondering if you have any ideas of how I can display the fact that a character has aged (not necessarily from adult to elder but just in general) without describing appearance. I’ve tried searching it up but they never really want into detail or they simply advised on changing the character slightly as in giving them old fashioned hobbies. I’m sorry if this has already been answered or does not simply have a direct way and must be decided by the author. Again I am very sorry if this has already been asked I really don’t mind if you either direct me to the answer or copy and paste it if so :)
Showing a Character Has Aged
When it comes to illustrating that someone has aged, you basically have four choices: describe physical characteristics that illustrate age, describe physical activities that illustrate age, indicate the passage of time, flat-out state that the character has aged.
The problem is that aging isn't a wildly specific thing. People don't take on certain physical characteristics, appearance, or activities at exactly the same age. While there are certainly some activities and behaviors that are broadly specific to age categories, age is not accurately defined by behavior, thought process, personality, etc.
If I say, "The last time I'd seen my nephew he was barely crawling, and now he was not just walking, but climbing on everything..." that's a pretty good indicator that this child has aged. But how much? Because babies don't all learn to crawl at the exact same age, or learn to walk at the exact same age for that matter. Some babies skip crawling and go straight to walking. Other babies seem like they'll never go from crawling to walking and suddenly do. This child could be two weeks older than last time or two years older. It isn't clear at all.
Complicating things is the fact that physical appearance is also not a good indicator of age. I mean... as I've pointed out in the past, Paul. Rudd:
Tumblr media
Carrol O'Connor (on the left) is the same age in that photo as Paul Rudd is in the photo on the right (both are early 50s here). And while things like hairstyle and fashion do have an impact on how we view someone's age, some people just get wrinkles/gray hair/gain weight/lose muscle tone sooner or later than others.
And, the advice to "give them old-fashioned hobbies" is terrible. "Old-fashioned hobbies"? What, like candle-making and churning butter? What does that even mean? Maybe these people view hobbies like knitting, stamp collecting, and wood-working as "old-fashioned," but I guarantee those are hobbies that are broadly enjoyed by young people to this day.
If I write, "She sat on the couch lovingly knitting a sweater," that tells me nothing about her actual age because:
Tumblr media
And, again, the woman on the left could be sixteen or thirty-five, and the woman on the right could be sixty-two or eighty-six.
So, outside of flat out stating that a character has aged, your best bet is to use a combination of these methods to get the point across...
"It had been over ten years since I last saw Mr. Smith. At the time, he'd recently returned from hiking in the Alps. Now he was hunched over a walker, his formerly salt-and-pepper hair now stark white. The deep grooves that had once made his face look handsome and worldly now made him look wizened and tired."
Between stating the amount of time that has passed (over ten years), physical activities (hunched over a walker vs hiking in the alps), and physical appearance (white hair and tired wrinkles vs salt-and-pepper hair and handsome lines), it is very clear that Mr. Smith has aged quite a bit in the decade since the POV character last saw them.
I hope that helps!

Usopp's constant negativity and anxiety are something useful and "positive" at the end of the day (eg: fight against Perona) because he doesn't necessarily need to change his views, he just needs to trust himself and his abilities more and he just uses what he has at the moment which is, you know, negativity. It is not something positive but it does keep him safe from danger and he will end up being proud of himself and stronger than he could ever imagine, but that doesn't mean he'll stop being negative. It's just another personality trait a lot of people have, and Usopp using it for his advantage is something great, I feel. He takes pride in being like that. He's loud and shameless about it.
Unlike Sanji, who dwells on his negativity on his own. Quietly. And lets it consume him without having any power over it. His self-sabotaging and self-sacrificing behavior often comes from a place of giving up out of fear of others getting hurt to save him because that's pretty much his core fear. Being a burden/Not being able to save the people he cares about from himself and his past. It's not something the manga shows that much in comparison to Usopp's negativity, but Sanji's pessimistic views are pretty much one of the reasons why WCI happens and why he puts himself in the worst situation in Wano.
And I think (this is why I'm writing all of this) that they're perfect for each other because Usopp could show him that being afraid and negative isn't something so bad. After all, at least Usopp is aware that if he can't do something, the crew will help him out no matter what. Usopp's negative, yes, but it's alright because he doesn't go through it on his own. Even if he does look shameless and "selfish" when desperately asking for help (he isn't, by the way. It's actually pretty reasonable to act like that). Sanji needs to learn to ask for help shamelessly too and he needs to stop putting all the weight of the world's negativity on his shoulders. They need to carry it together.
Like- There's just something so personal in Usopp going "Yes! I am scared. Frightened even. Please, help!" because he might not like that part of him and he's trying to be stronger and more independent every day, but he acknowledges that things can go south and his reaction is very fight or flight but pretty mostly flight to be safe. While Sanji's response is always to fight because he refuses to let others know he needs help in case something happens to them (and also because he feels ashamed of feeling weak). Usopp shares the responsibility and accepts that he's kind of a loser sometimes but Sanji refuses to do so.
This is just a thought about Sanji learning that being a coward and asking for help isn't bad because they're meant to do stuff like that, and Usopp growing to be stronger and independent but not necessarily stop being pessimistic because sometimes you just... Are like that. Sometimes you're scared. Sometimes you have anxiety. And that's alright. You can be strong anyway.

This has been a really hard one to talk about. I'm always very ambivalent about mourning celebrities. I try to remember that I don't know these people, that what is really mourned by most of us is the person's ongoing work, which in the best cases has helped us understand ourselves and the world in which we live. Unavoidably, though, you can start to develop the sense that you know these people personally, which isn't true or even appropriate necessarily, I mean you have no idea whether you would even like someone you've only seen on a screen or received an autograph from; but at the same time, I don't know if you can really force yourself not to feel like the deceased celebrity is a dear friend you will never get to talk to again (the last time I tried and failed was the passing of Lux Interior). Maybe this is more forgivable, and also more inevitable, if you feel like you grew up with the person.
Of course this is all about ME now, but my mother (who also died from cancer) was an extremely hip, brilliant, funny individual who for whatever reason refused to form a relationship with me. This was pretty strange, because we liked a lot of the same things--B movies, old comics, all types of camp and kitsch--but when I liked those things, it was in poor taste and punishable by exile, whereas when she liked those things, it was evidence of her cultural genius. Before I make anybody too mad I should say that I'm being a little bit unfairly reductive just so I can get to the point, which is that one of the few things we could share was Pee-Wee's Playhouse. I didn't know anything about the show's more adult origins or the fact that Paul Reubens was sort of a performance artist, but I didn't have to. Pee-Wee's Playhouse was a feast for any child's senses: stylish, hilarious, and on some subliminal level, really sophisticated. I was clued into some of what was going on just because I watched it with my mom, who always laughed at Pee-Wee's winks and nudges to the hep parents in the audience. The show might have been my first encounter with the kind of anthropological humor favored by people like David Byrne and Laurie Anderson, artists who engage subversively with cliches, stereotypes, and other memetic parts of popular culture. In Pee-Wee's Playhouse, with its sharp, edgy cast and crew, kids like me were getting into fine art without even knowing it--which is possibly the best way to learn about art anyway.
Tumblr media
In fact, on the other side of our house, I became obsessed with Gary Panter's incredible punk opus Jimbo In Paradise, a Dantesque comic book about an innocent young guy living in a dystopian future, where he is occasionally joined by guest stars such as Nancy and Hedorah. I was about 7 when I started reading Jimbo over and over again even though I could barely understand it, and I had no idea that Gary had pretty much designed Pee-Wee's Playhouse. I'm speaking about him so familiarly because I got to know him a little bit as a grownup. I remember Gary talking about how private Paul Reubens could be. He used to do this thing where he would accept a dinner invitation from anybody who asked, as sort of a stunt, but he had to stop doing it because people became so intrusive and entitled with him. Gary said that they'd be walking around in New York and when they saw an obvious Pee-Wee fan gearing up for an offensive, Paul Reubens would sort of transform into this totally different person, putting out an aura that let you know not to fuck with him. It's crazy-making to think that someone who was so protective of the boundary between his private and public selves had to suffer that ridiculous arrest, but it's heartening that most of society eventually grew the fuck up and forgot about it. It's also helpful to remember when he turned up later on the MTV Music Video Awards and started off by asking the audience, "HEARD ANY GOOD JOKES LATELY??"
I'm glad we got one more Pee-Wee special in the past several years, but I always wished that we would see Paul Reubens in more movies. He was such a cool actor, funny, convincing, and naturally charismatic. While people are cycling through their favorite roles of his, I want to point out that he had a great role on a recent HBO miniseries called Mosaic, an intense, engrossing crime drama that I definitely recommend if you have access. Maybe I'll rewatch it, too. In closing, here's a great story that I grabbed from Facebook that should warm everybody's heart, along with the heartbreaking statement (inappropriately cropped by Instagram of course) released upon the death of the very private Pee-Wee Herman. It makes you wish you could thank him in person, for everything. The best we can do is just remember him.

The chronic pain do be paining. It has caused me to wonder how the idiots™️ would respond to reader having a flare up.
Side note: please get your pain checked out if you get hurt! Don’t be me! Life isn’t meant to hurt.
-VS
I'm sorry to hear about your pain, I am familiar with the issue. But you are very right. Pain is not something to ignore.
Tumblr media
Four
He may not understand personally but he goes out of his way to make sure you have whatever helps you most
He tries to make something to help. If the pain is in your joints he tries to make braces to help you.
If he can't make something to help he offers to take over your chores/ duties to give you a break
Will go asking Wild about ideas on how to help
Hyrule
The concept confuses him at first. You hurt- all the time? And that's- normal?
He grew up in a forest with faeries - pain was fleeting
He asks about it, gathering details, potential triggers, and what helps.
Hyrule tries to use his powers to help you, but I don't know if this would help actually.
If his powers help he's ready to use them in an instant
If they don't, he'll try to make sure you get rest and will ask for help getting you what you need if he can't do it himself.
Legend
He's a grump- but he makes sure to he less of a grump when he knows you're having a flare up.
Legend tries to see if any of his magic objects can help- they don't but he really does try.
Starts carrying an extra blanket so you have something to rest on if you need it. He tries not to make a deal of it, just quietly offering it to you when needed.
If anyone gives you shot about it he will fight them
Sky
He'll make you any mobility aids that might help (may inlist Four if they need wheels)
Sky isn't super familiar with chronic pain but he knows it's a thing people have. He also asks about how to help
Sky will let you use him as a pillow when you rest, he wants you to be comfortable
He tries to keep your favorite snacks and drinks on hand. He believes in treating yourself kindly especially when in discomfort
Time
He'll start pestering you about staying hydrated and fed during your flare-ups because he knows that sometimes people will stop eating/ drinking enough when they hurt
Offers you the oild they use on horse joints for pain (this can help depending on the issue)
Time will carry you at the drop of a hat, all you have to do is ask
He dosen’t necessarily understand the cause, but he does try to help any way he can
Twilight
He is quick to bring you hot packs or ice packs. If those don't help he'll try something else
Another one to carry you if you like
When you have a particularly bad flare-up he will come see you as Wolfie
You have free right to use Epona as a mode of transport (unless stated makes it worse, please don't hurt yourself)
Twi will tell you stories while you rest to try to distract you
Warriors
He also is familiar with the issue that chronic pain presents, wether from personal experience or from army experience is up to you
He's got a no nonsense approach to it: as in if you give any indication you're having a flarup or other issues caused by chronic pain He's having you rest
He will not let you push yourself past your limits unless you are in a life or death battle and even then he does his damndest to keep you from passing them.
If it helps he's happy to give you a massage, if not he will respect that
Warriors keeps emergencies medication, heat packs, ice packs, and snacks on him at all times. He'll happily share.
Wild
I figure he has chronic pain/ frequent issues because he was blown up and you don't just walk away without issues
He may not have the same pain but he is familiar with the concept and the way a body will often choose to punish you if you ignore the little things
Wild will find out what causes your flare-ups and try to help minimize that stimuli
Probably knows some plant medicine, and will try to use that to help you.
If the pain is in your joints or walking makes it worse he'll insist on more frequent breaks. (If you can stand be carried or riding Epona he'll implement that.)
Wild tries to help you find stretches to relieve the pain (fully understands that this is not foolproof and can make things worse)
Wind
He just starts doing for you what he does for his grandmother and those on his pirate crew.
He'll keep an eye on you and offer to help you try unconventional remedies
Has at least 4 home remedies- they may or may not work but he certainly tries
Will demand you go take a break if you try to push through a flare up (if you refuse he gets Warriors and Time to help him)

You mentioned in the past that you thought yandere medic would be okay with sharing y/n with another person. How do you think that would go? maybe with heavy, since they’re so close? (If you aren’t doing request rn feel free to ignore this <3 have a good day )
anon,, my sweet beloved and treasured above all loving sentiment, if only you knew how long I've awaited this very ask....
I teased this idea way back (here, the first part obvi.). I've gone back and forth about going for it and writing out the prompt in full, as I think it would be very, very... enticing, and another one of those things I would love to read which must unfortunately start with a blank word doc. I wound up writing this to be rather light-hearted, but if anyone wants to see this scenario played out a bit darker, I'm open to the request!
But additionally, I know myself well enough as a person, and didn't really want to go through all that effort unless if was for a request, or unless I knew it would be for me and at least one other reader, because it feels only natural a multiple character x reader one shot should be long enough to give each character a decent enough feature, thus will (safe to say) always be much longer, and take much longer to write, than a regular x character oneshot. (If that makes any sense?) Anyhow, that's all to say, thank you, thank you, thank you ever so kindly for the ask, I really hope you enjoy how this came out, it was a pleasure to write. <3

While the mission wasn't technically over yet, the work for the day was, and thank God for that. The job was simple enough, nothing more than a little errand run, fetching some supplies to bring back to home base, not necessarily requiring the combined efforts of you, Heavy and Medic. Still, when you were requested to accompany the two, you immediately agreed. So while the work bored you, the company would make it all worth it.
The work bored you, but the company made it all worth it.
The road down was straightforward enough, and collecting the supplies was just as effortless, but the trip back was less so. A sudden and severe thunderstorm forced the lot of you to find a room for the night to accommodate all three of you and your cargo. Along with a few beers picked up along the way, a little treat to celebrate a hard day's work. While typically, you knew drinking on the job wasn't professional, this was a special occasion, and you knew it would be back to work once you returned home, so you might as well enjoy it while it lasted. Finding a suitable room big enough for all of you on such short notice was a miracle, but this place suited you well.
Two double-wide beds, a radio, an armchair, a couch, and a little kitchenette with an ice box to keep the beer nice and cold while you took turns changing in the bathroom out of work clothes and washing up a little. You took the initiative to contact Homebase regarding the delay.
A part of you was so tired you wanted to crawl into bed right away, but you weren't about to deny yourself a nice cold beer with friends. To your surprise, Medic sat in the armchair beside the couch while Heavy sat on the sofa, leaving the only open space to unwind next to Heavy, which you reclined comfortably into. Considering how they were practically glued to the hip most of the time, you didn't understand why they didn't sit together now. Also, you didn't like how Medic's eyes seemed to follow you across the room as you sat down next to Heavy, doing your best to keep a respectable distance between you and Heavy.
For some time, you relaxed, talking, listening to the radio, one beer turning into two, and two into two and a half as you settled more comfortably into the couch, no longer holding yourself so austerely, relaxing a little. Your head eventually resting on Heavy's shoulder, he looked at you, "Comfortable?"
You nodded, his body mass was so burly, and you could feel the warmth of his body through his shirt, making you feel a little giddy. "You're too cozy- I wanna sleep right here."
"Still cold from storm? I warm you."
It wasn't a question. And without waiting for a yes, Heavy effortlessly pulled you onto his lap, sitting you sideways on top of his legs. With one arm slung over your shoulder and one under your knees, he pulled you into his lap, the overwhelming closeness feeling sudden, but he was still so temptingly warm and comfortable you didn't want to pull away.
"Feel better?"
You giggled, nodding your head as he ruffled your hair playfully, keeping one arm around your shoulders as you settled against the arm of the couch. Your eyes were closed, your head feeling all floaty as you felt his hand move from the top of your head to the side of your cheek. His hands, no longer concealed under his gloves, felt calloused but so gentle against your cheek. He moved subtly, decisively. You didn't even realize he moved your face to meet his until you felt his lips connecting against your own.
Without warning, you pulled away sharply with the awkward rigidity of a stranger. Your actions caught Heavy by surprise, allowing you to detach yourself without restriction, though you could see his confusion through wide, frightened eyes. In a moment, you were made shockingly aware of everything the alcohol so effectively blinded you to before now. It was that awkward, sinking feeling of becoming all too aware of your own body all at once, aware of the space you were taking up, of how much of your body was pressed up against the massive Russian you shared the couch with, the clammy sweat coating your palms, the tension in your joints, yet most of all the butterflies in your belly which intensified into something less than pleasant. All of this awkwardness made you feel suddenly insecure about yourself, your form, and your relation to the men around you; how could you have been so blind to this before? For goodness sake, these were your coworkers; it was your responsibility to keep things professional between the lot of you, a task you could not more thoroughly have failed at. It was humiliating to realize you folded after just a couple of drinks, even if Heavy was playing along; it all felt so wrong and too pushy. Not to mention the fact Heavy was a taken man. The truth made all the more grievous, considering his partner was sitting right there facing the two of you. While the guilt for what you'd just done made you want to hide your face in shame, it was impossible to keep from looking at Medic. However, to your surprise, he merely sat there watching the two of you, cocking his head to the side slightly, with a confusion matching Heavy's as though you were the one acting strangely here.
"Something is wrong?" Heavy inquired, his hand on your waist tightening slightly, likely in reassurance, unfortunately having the opposite effect. It felt too awkward to look Heavy in the eye or face him at this point. So instead, you kept your gaze locked on the floor before the two of you as you nervously tried to squirm your way off the larger man's lap. All to no avail, however, as Heavy's grip on you was cast iron, and you resorted to clasping your hands together on your lap, speaking as levelly as you could, using all your willpower to keep the emotions and alcohol from causing your weak voice to crack, "I'm sorry, Heavy. I think I've, um-overstepped here; I shouldn't have, y-you know… Well, I mean, I think I'll turn in now- it's so late, already…."
Your voice trailed off, and you hated how wishy-washy you sounded, betraying your will to stay strong, to appear rational and firm as any reliable comrade should.
Heavy was not convinced. "You were fine when I pulled you on my lap. Why so tired so fast?"
Forcing a nervous laugh and uncomfortable forced smile, you tried to turn to Medic for reassurance, but he stared back, eyes squinting slightly, matching Heavy's suspicion. "Must be the alcohol's catching up with me then-'' It wasn't a total lie, as you could've sworn you could feel the alcohol churning in your gut, almost taunting you, forcing you to remember just how much you'd drunk in such a short amount of time.
"Explain." Heavy looked at you and deadpanned, waiting for you to tell the truth. You tried to swallow, but your mouth felt dry.
"I mean, aren't you two-" The awkwardness melded uncomfortably with the guilt; how were you supposed to explain yourself in a situation like this? "I mean- but you two are together, aren't you?"
"And?" Heavy spoke bluntly, putting you right back on the spot. You sighed nervously, nibbling at your lower lip and turning your head to face Medic.
"I just, I-I know it's not my business, but I mean- I can't imagine you're alright with any of this-'' You thought you knew your friends well, but you never would've imagined winding up in a situation like this with the two of them. To your surprise, a smile spread across Medic's face.
"Of course I am! This was my idea, after all!" You merely blinked at him, not at all following what he meant by that.
"Huh? What do you mean, it was your idea?"
"Well…" You could see his eyes flick from you to Heavy, silently asking for some backup. Heavy's fingers began to rub comforting little circles over your waist, his other hand covering your own hands on your lap in a reassuring gesture.
"You're pretty and kind but sp shy. We thought a little experience would help." His blunt words took you completely by surprise.
"Experience?" You managed. Heavy nodded, not at all registering the shock on your face.
"What he means is-" Medic chuckled slightly, interjecting, amused watching how flustered Heavy's words made you. "We thought if we helped you with a little, let's say, physical bonding-"
You opened your mouth, ready to ask what exactly he meant by this, but he pressed on.
"Nothing too intense now- just a little intimacy to get you more accustomed."
You hated how vague he was being, but also, you'd be lying if you said you'd never thought of being in a situation like this before. Only in your wildest, most unrealistic dreams, or so you thought. The two men were handsome in their own ways, you'd known before you got to know them, but you never liked to dwell on such lewd thoughts. You always felt so guilty afterward; they were your friends after all, even if just in your thoughts, you knew it was wrong to think so lustfully of friends.
Sure, there was always a little lighthearted play-flirting occasionally, but you would never have tried anything serious with either of them. Your friendship meant too much to risk losing like that.
You felt Heavy kiss the side of your head, murmuring in a low, uncharacteristically quiet voice into your ear, "You're shy but not sneaky. I see how you look at Doctor behind his back. He says you stare at me also. Is this true?"
Your breath hitched when he began to trail his beautiful, massive hand from over your hands, snaking it up your belly until it cupped the side of your face, forcing you to focus on him and meet his eye. Heavy drank in every detail of your face before settling his eyes on your lips, waiting for you to answer, and with a trembling exhale, you spoke, "It is." Before he could wait no longer, closing the space between your mouths once again, his lips curling into a smirk just seconds before his parted lips connected with yours.
While you were still awestruck at the surrealness of the situation, you felt your reservations evaporating by the second. Finally kissing back, you allowed Heavy to deepen the kiss as he used his hand to push your head closer against his. His thumb brushed over your cheek, feeling the warmth of your skin as you felt almost uncomfortably overheated. He moved slowly but so lovingly, using his tongue to dip into your mouth and taste you, sucking against your lips as you broke the kiss with hesitation, asking,
"Are you sure you want to go through with all this?" He nodded with a mellow smile as you continued, still feeling traces of nervousness clinging to you stubbornly. "I'd never forgive myself if I ruined our friendship, and I, uh-" Despite your awkwardness and hesitation, Heavy smiled at you so resolutely, so affectionately. Watching you as though you were the most beautiful person he'd ever beheld.
"I don't want to let you down here. You guys were right; I've got no real experience here… I don't know if I'll be any good at this." It was almost shameful to say out loud, but Heavy didn't even blink, playfully kissing your cheek.
"Don't think of that. It's your time to learn, not lead."
He nuzzled his nose against your cheek, the feeling almost ticklish, making you stifle a giggle. "Just lay back and look pretty. You'll do perfect." He pulled away a little, his hand on your waist, tugging at your shirt a little; only then did you see how blown out his pupils were, "Will you come to bed now?"
It was time to be decisive. The abruptness of the question caught you off-guard, but you had no idea if you would ever get a chance like this again. This was your moment; it was time to act or wish you had. You swallowed your uncertainty and nodded, finally removing your hands from your lap to help Heavy pull off your shirt before reaching out to touch his own top and about to do the same. But he gave you a look that made you pause.
"This one off too? It's not too much? We only go as far as you want." As praising as he was moments ago, his firmness and evident respect for your boundaries made you feel all the more loved. You took this as your chance to try and charm him, as he did so effortlessly to you.
"The shirt off is better; I mean, I've always wanted to get a look under these clothes." The sound of Medic chuckling beside you made you realize you'd almost forgotten he was there in the first place. It felt odd knowing he was so close, though if this was all his idea all along, you wondered where he factored into all this. Pushing that thought aside, you helped Heavy remove his shirt as you curled a little closer, your head resting against his chest, your hand on his shoulder as you softly kissed his skin, nuzzling to feel the delightful feeling of skin-to-skin contact as much as you could. "Heavy, your body is so warm. You feel amazing." Your words were mumbled, quiet, and practically smothered as you spoke without moving your head much from his chest. You could feel his chest rumbling with a low laugh, and when you felt his hips gently press a little closer against your body, but you didn't shy away. You could feel he was aroused and didn't doubt he knew you were too. You felt the warmth between your legs intensifying the longer you felt Heavy's bare skin against yours, your thighs squeezing tighter and tighter, and you swore you could feel a bit of wetness from the kiss alone.
"Will you take me to bed now? Please?" The neediness gave you a bit of confidence as you looked up at Heavy, who needed no further incentive. You leaned against him for support as you both rose, your hand finding his as you two walked to the bed, laying down. At the same time, Heavy lingered for a moment overhead, distracted by the curves of your body now spread out like a banquet before him, eyes looking everywhere but your face. Then, for a second, you felt a twinge of insecurity, "I won't lie; I'm still a little scared this is gonna hurt."
Instantly, this snapped Heavy's attention back to your face as he sat beside you on the side of the bed, his hand finding yours again as he spoke, "We only go as far as you want… We can stop now if-" You didn't talk, just shook your head no, moving Heavy's hand with your own to the waist of your pants. He looked at you one last time for assurance. However, you could practically feel his hand trembling in yours with anticipation before you guided him to unbutton your pants, helping pull them off you. At the same time, you slinked out of them and your underwear, kicking them to the floor.
Even against your thigh, his hand loomed intimidatingly, the size difference so beautiful, making you shudder, wanting this man more than ever. You were so distracted by his hands you didn't even hear Medic sneaking up behind Heavy until you heard him speak. "How precious you two look~" You jolted a little in surprise, seeing Medic peering down at you from behind Heavy with narrowed eyes glazed over with lust, shamelessly checking out your nude figure, now stripped perfectly naked in front of him.
"You didn't forget about me so soon, did you?" He asked in a faux-hurt voice, "You're doing so well. Are you ready to go a little further now?"
"I am." You spoke without hesitation, the burning between your legs intensifying almost painfully as you shyly parted your thighs, feeling cool air ticking your sweaty skin as Medic walked to the foot of the bed to get a better view before you sat up a little, pushing away from the headboard as Heavy got into bed behind you.
"Heavy is here, right behind. You will be safe."
Before now, you remembered how painfully tense you felt, but at this moment, you were put at ease, comforted at last by the presence behind you, no longer so overwhelmed. How foolish you were to think your relationship with the two men had to be strictly business, how blind you were to the pleasure the two men had to offer.
"We will stop at any time-"
You cut him off with a kiss as he settled at the head of the bed, "I know I'm no good at showing it, but. I want this. I've wanted this for so long. You two mean so much to me, and I trust you."
You were about to say, 'I love you,' but you held back. You didn't have the guts to say something so bold. But you hoped Heavy, as well as Medic, understood, despite your shy quietness. There was a minute or two of moving around, Heavy moving from his spot at your bedside to get behind you; he spread his thick legs to give you space to settle between. Finally, you were lying down, your upper back and head resting on his belly, noticing the bulge in his pants as it pressed not-so-subtly into your back. Despite the lewdness of it all, you let your head fall back a little; Heavy's body felt so solid and warm behind you, it almost made you want to skip everything and just cuddle up and fall asleep already, but you knew Medic wouldn't allow such a thing.
"I'll start nice and slow, just for you." Medic's words were deceptively sweet, almost enough to hide his lustful intent. Your throat felt too dry to speak, so you merely nodded, feeling the heat in the pit of your stomach intensify at this new position. He was condescending to you, and yet you didn't even have the inner strength left to respond. Medic moved over you, his hands resting on Heavy's thighs around your head to keep you nice and caged, right where he wanted you. He could see it written all across your face; you were getting turned on being obedient like this, submitting and letting them take the lead. He leaned his body down further, enough for you to feel the rub of his pants over your naked flesh, the odd sensation making you wince as he slotted his knee between your legs, the gentle contact alone enough to make you jolt a little, startled.
"Aww, I'm sorry. Did I scare you? You must be pretty needy down there, aren't you? Did Heavy do a good job getting you warmed up?" Medic could feel your chest rising and falling rapidly as you breathe deeper. He continued, "You've masturbated before, haven't you?" The question caught you off guard. You looked at Medic with wide eyes, feeling another throb of arousal, seeing his predatory grin, one you'd seen countless times in battle but appearing like never before, given the current position. He pressed his knee a little harder against you.
"Y-yeah, I've- a lot, I guess…."
"Did you ever think of it like this? Your pussy leaking all over me while you grind against me as hard as you can?" You keened, your hips rolling against his clothed thigh, the muscle bulging distractingly beneath the thin covering. It was humiliating to have him mocking you while you were powerless to defend yourself, yet still, you wanted even more. He laughed, amused by your lack of a response, as though your brain was already succumbing so quickly to your own lust you forgot how to form whole sentences.
"Does it turn you on when I dirty-talk you like this? I bet behind that pretty face, you're even more perverted than either of us." You grit your teeth, biting back a moan.
"Medic, w-why are you keeping your pants on?" He paused momentarily at the abrupt question, looking at you with an eyebrow raised as you rushed to explain yourself. "I mean, doesn't it feel- like, weird?"
"You want to see me undressed that bad, huh?" Medic responded. Of course, he wasn't wrong, but the self-satisfied look on his face stopped you from admitting he was right.
You shook your head, "W-well, I mean, aren't you uncomfortable under all that?" He grinned, seeing right through your bluff. But, even though he knew you were lying, Medic wasn't about to press you too hard on the matter.
"You'll understand once you get more experience. But, you know, it can be just as rewarding to stay dressed, to keep control-" He paused to trail a finger from between your breasts down, just below your navel, the light sensation causing you to throb with want against his thigh. Continuing in a low, almost antagonistic tone, "While your partner is a wet, needy, naked little mess beneath you." He could not more clearly be mocking you, but something about it had quite the effect on you. Medic knew just how to push your buttons, and it was driving you crazy.
He was about to say something when Heavy's voice from behind interrupted.
"Medic, be nice. This is first time. You're embarrassing her. Don't overdo it." Thank God there was a literal angel over your shoulder to watch over you and reign in his partner.
"Perhaps, but it looks like someone's enjoying it." He was about to move his hand lower when you interrupted,
"Medic?"
He stopped his hand immediately, eyes meeting yours as you continued, "Can I get a kiss first?" You felt awkward, making such a bashful request compared to how confidently he spoke. His face softened at this, nodding before leaning closer, your hands cupping his cheeks. It felt good to be the first to deepen the kiss, your tongue flicking over his lip as his mouth parted, allowing you to get a better taste. Then, without breaking the kiss, his hand began to move down again, his thumb finding your clit quickly, causing you to moan into the kiss.
Your mind went blank with pleasure at the stimulation, his thumb rolling softly over your clit as his other fingers deftly traced the exterior of your sex, collecting the abundant moisture and spreading it over the entrance while you throbbed beneath his fingertips. You felt an almost painful burning feeling as his fingers moved faster, lips working in rhythm against your mouth; far better than any fantasy you'd felt before.
Medic broke the kiss, "Do you want me to use my mouth? Are you ready for that?"
Without waiting, you nodded, "Please! It feels so good- please, please don't stop!"
"Just wait another moment- need to make sure you're ready," Medic spoke in a sweet, gentle voice, so sickeningly sweet you could practically feel your heartthrob. He pushed two fingers inside, and you couldn't help but buck forwards at the contact. Making Medic hum in satisfaction at your reaction. You could vaguely hear him chiding you for your impatience, but you were beyond caring at this point, and when you felt him tracing painfully slow little circles around your entrance, you whined out loud in annoyance.
"Will you stop teasing already and get on with it- Fuck!"
Medic looked genuinely shocked momentarily at how bold you were, but it didn't deter him. Instead, without waiting for another moment, he dove his face between your legs as you unconsciously spread your legs further for him, leaning back against Heavy for support, arching your back, feeling his hands on your shoulders to keep you steady; it wasn't long until you felt Medic's hands just above your knees, his breath fanning against your pussy.
But far be it from Medic to let you off so quickly, and you groaned out loud as you felt his tongue moving, intentionally moving up and around your clit, but refusing to make contact. You were dangerously close to digging your fingernails directly into Heavy's thighs. But you forced yourself to move one hand to the top of Medic's head, your fingers clutching his hair, trying to guide him into place while you ground against his face. When you finally felt his lips connecting with your clit you were practically sobbing with bliss, the feeling intensifying as he began to suckle against the swollen bundle of nerves.
"More, more- Oh God, please- More!" You were getting louder than you intended, but fortunately, the radio likely kept anyone from overhearing any of this, but you only got louder as he began to suck harder. His tongue lapped upwards, swirling against your clit, as he moaned into you, swallowing as much as he could. You felt feral. Like you were burning hot on the inside, but Medic kept tempo without issue. Finally, you could feel your climax coming on, rolling your hips even harder, unintentionally pulling his hair just as fiercely. Still, if he was bothered by this, he didn't say anything, slurping contently as you finally felt the end coming on. And you trembled, feeling your body awash in ecstasy as you succumbed to the blinding pleasure between your legs.
It was an embarrassingly long time until you managed to catch your breath, the gap in experience between you and them becoming painfully obvious once again. Your throat felt so dry and scratchy from your heavy breathing and moaning, much like a scorched throat from pushing yourself in physical training. Though other than that, you were in a situation unlike any you'd known before. Naked, slick with your own sweat, your mind still tipsy and unstable from your orgasm.
You could feel Heavy's hand petting at your hair from behind, and you couldn't help but swoon, feeling so supported and intimate with him after such a perverse moment. "You look so pretty when you come." There was an edge in his voice, and you thought he was indirectly asking if you wanted to go again, but you were too tired, too used up to think about doing this all over again. You didn't know how to respond; thankfully, Medic spoke first.
"It would be a shame if we kept this a 'one-time-thing,' wouldn't you agree?" And you felt your headrush, this evening felt too good to be true, nothing less than a dream come to life, but the promise of more was all the better. Nodding, you focused your gaze on Medic as he moved from between your legs; you responded, "So long as it's ok with you, I'd never want to come between things-"
You felt like a rag doll, limp and being pulled lifelessly by the other two, Medic facing you, arms around your back, pulling you into his chest. "Don't worry about it; you're the one with much more to learn here." You felt Heavy's enormous arm pull the both of you tighter into his chest. And at this moment, sandwiched between the warm bodies of two men you cared more about than anyone else in the world, you prayed the night would never end.

When there's something strange in the neighborhood, who you gonna call? Probably not John Constantine...?
I'm still pretty new to these DPxDC spaces, but as I've been exploring it from the perspective of someone currently deep in the throes of DC hyperfixation (and Danny Phantom being a past hyperfixation that I sometimes relapse into) one trend that I find kinda odd (but not necessarily unexpected) is just how prevalent Constantine is in these spaces that are largely dominated by BatFamily AUs and headcanons. Like, I do get it (kind of). Constantine does occasionally show up in Batman stories where Bruce encounters something supernatural and needs consulting on the case, and Constantine definitely appeals to the fandom audience in some pretty clear ways. Yeah, he's a handsome, charming bastard with a secret heart of gold. He's British, witty, cool, and an asshole. He may be one hell of a messy bisexual disaster, but he's OUR messy bisexual disaster, dammit! So we forgive him for being a cynical jerkass sometimes. I haven't consumed much media with him in it, but like... I get it and why out of all the mystical characters that DC has in their roster, why you might choose to include him over other characters. However I do find it kinda odd because like... Constantine is NOT the kind of person that I would see Batman nor anyone in his family particularly going for when they need help when something supernatural comes up... In fact the biggest reason that I haven't seen much from Constantine is that... He just does not appear in a lot of media that Batman is in! So I haven't seen much of him! (In terms of media that I've consumed for the sake of Batman being in it, he's only appeared in Justice League Action. No other animated series for Batman. And he hasn't really been in any recent comics that cross over with Batman that have caught my eye! He didn't even have a story in Knight Terrors!)
Of course there's no shame in using Constantine for your stories. He's popular for a reason, and if he happened to be in the area, then sure, the Bats might grab him to help them with their latest case. But for magic-users that the BatFamily might go to for assistance, he isn't always going to be the best choice. So for anyone who needs a magic-user in their BatPhanfiction, here are a few alternate suggestions.
(Suggestions under the cut for length)
Jason Blood
Tumblr media
For people with magical expertise, I would expect the Bat Family to call Jason Blood before anyone else. Jason is old. How old? Old as balls. He's actually been around since the time of Arthurian legend. Apparently he was a scribe for Merlin before being bound to the immortal demon Etrigan which made him immortal too. Having worked for Merlin himself, having some level of innate magic from being bound and therefore sharing a body with a demon, and having been around for hundreds of years, this means that Jason has had plenty of ability and time to learn and practice magic and to perfect his craft. He knows his stuff and has a level of experience that is practically unparalleled on Earth. He's not a man to be trifled with and Batman has worked with him on many an occasion! The biggest reason that the BatFamily would call on him before anyone else? Location, location, location. Jason actually lives in Gotham City, so not only does he have the requisite experience and knowledge, but he's also easy for the BatFamily to get ahold of too! And as a bonus, with a simple rhyme, he can turn into the demon Etrigan who can kick ass on his behalf! Jason may seem to be a bit grumpy and stern on the outside, but he's a reliable ally to have and desires to protect others just as much as Bruce does.
Zatanna Zatara
Tumblr media
Zatanna is a stage magician by trade, a master of tricks, illusion, and slight of hand... But she also happens to be among the most powerful actual magic-users in the known DC universe! Honestly, if you know of her and still choose to use Constantine over her in a story when either will do? You're doing yourself a bit of a disservice. Just look at her! She's gorgeous, radiant, optimistic, always has a fun trick up her sleeve, knows how to have a good time, and unlike Constantine, doesn't have the kinds nor number of enemies that he does! And best of all? She's actually buddies with Bruce Wayne! They're good friends! In fact, Bruce trained under her father for a time to learn escape artistry! Honestly it's a bit of a shame that people forget how good of friends they are... They might have dated in the past? But ever since Bruce mastered escape artistry, they've kept in touch! The two honestly would have an unspoken trust with each other and ability to rely on each other that few other characters could have with Bruce. Zatanna is usually on the road performing, but if she's available, she'd likely be more than happy to pop on over to Gotham to help Brucie out with a case! Superman may be Batman's best friend, and Harvey Dent may be Bruce Wayne's best friend... But honestly Zatanna Zatara is a close second place on both accounts! She's GREAT! I crave for her to be included in more stories! WHERE ARE MY AUNTIE ZATANNA AUs!???
Xanthe Zhou
Tumblr media
Honestly this is a personal suggestion that I want to see because it's just a damn shame that it doesn't already!
Are you hesitant to use a comic character with a huge backlog of stories that you couldn't possibly hope to get through for fear of messing them up? Do you want to use a canonically LGBT character? Do you want to use a character that's a person of color? What about a character that specializes in interacting with the spirits of the dead for your Danny Phantom crossover fics? Because boy howdy do I have you covered! Say hello to Xanthe Zhou! A nonbinary Chinese-American spirit envoy within the DC universe who first debuted in March of last year (2023)! So guess what! There is no long, confusing continuity to follow! If you want to catch up on all you need to know about them, go ahead and read their 6 issue miniseries Spirit World and you should be covered! And heeeey~ Guess who else is in Spirit World~~~?? One Cassandra Cain and one John Constantine! Plus the art is drop-dead gorgeous!
Tumblr media
So please! I beseech you! Check out Spirit World and get to know Xanthe! They are literally everything you are looking for in a character to add to your Danny Phantom and Batman crossover story and are brand-spanking new and it is just a DAMN shame that they aren't already in any DPxDC stories!!! And guess what! They live in Gotham City to boot! (Gotham's Chinatown to be specific.) So please! Do yourself a favor and check out Spirit World and add Xanthe to your stories! If nothing else, I'll certainly read them!
In any case, that's the list and all I can come up with for now! If you have any further suggestions, please don't be afraid to add them on in a reblog! My comics knowledge is very limited and am always happy to hear about other ideas and characters that I've missed! I've actually seen some usage of Klarion the Witch Boy in this phandom which was a pleasant surprise! But sadly, I don't know nearly enough about him to actually say anything about him. But please! Go ahead and tell me about other magic using characters that you think would be suited to the DPxDC universe! And if you make anything of this sort with Xanthe in it... Please send it to me! I want that shit pumped directly into my veins!!!
P.S. I just wanted to say... Batman miiiiight call Santa Claus before he calls Constantine for help on an investigation lol (apparently Bruce apprenticed under Santa for a time :p ).

Game Roundup 2023 - Part 1
So I made it a mission to read through the games I've gotten in various bundles in the past. And it's uh... an undertaking.
But! I've read a lot of cool games and encountered a lot of new concepts.
For reasons (namely that I have a few thousand games) I am not going to mention every game in these posts, just ones that caught my attention for one reason or another. And in keeping with my reflection on ratings earlier this year, I'm going to refrain from critiquing the stuff I mention here - I may say "this one isn't one I'd personally play" or "there was some unpolished stuff in here", but I'm going to focus mainly on the positives and why the game grabbed me.
So, here we go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blades in the Dark by John Harper
Yeah, yeah, I know, this game is talked about a lot! But consider me a recent student of TTRPG history outside of d20 systems. I got the chance to play this game for several sessions and read the rulebook cover to cover. The stuff that works, really works. The stuff that doesn't? Bogs the whole thing down. But I find clocks to be such an intuitive mechanic, and downtimes is really a delight to me. There's a whole ton of Forged in the Dark stuff that toggles a bunch of the game's switches on and off to make things more streamlined. Was very glad to read this one.
Lumen by Spencer Campbell (GilaRPGs)
I made it a mission to read SRDs this year. I want to understand the how and why of the games I've been reading: why are they built the way they are, what is accomplished in building them this way, and can I build games this way myself? Spencer has a really solid handle on what he wants his games to do. They're power fantasies with little if any chance for failure. It's not about whether you do the thing, it's about how. I ended up having the chance to meet Spencer at GenCon, and I'm really excited to see Lumen 2.0, which is going to be completely diceless. Power fantasy games aren't my thing typically, but I really appreciate the intentionality of this system's design.
Are My Wings Even? by Sadia Bies
What a lovely, simple game that lets you play dress-up! This one isn't necessarily as polished as some of the others but you can tell it was designed with so much care and personal meaning. I love a tactile game. I love dressing up. This one has so much potential to be really tender. It won't be for everyone and that's okay, but I really adore it.
Sprouts by Julie-Anne "Jam" Munoz
This game came to me in a bundle for Trans Rights in FL, but I actually dug into it when I was looking for RPGs to play with kids. You draw your character on a post-it, and it's just a silly little guy! It has a pretty simple roll mechanic and advises a "get from point A to point B" adventure style, which takes place in actual 3D space in your home, because didn't you know? Sprouts live in your home, like dust bunnies! It's got really great language for children and emphasizes cooperation, and that you can't mess up your drawing - sprouts are sprouts.
The Wildsea by Felix Isaacs
I know, I know, I talk about this game too much! But really, it's been the gateway into other games for me. I think technically I probably read this last year, but I had to brush up for GenCon this year, so I'm counting it. Lots of folks have compared the tracks in this game to Blades' clocks, but they sprang up parallel, funnily enough! It has some definitely shared DNA in its design, and it rewards you for things out of combat more than things in combat, if that's how you want to play. The setting is lovely, the community is lovely, and really it was a joy to read, even as long as it is.
I'll do another of these soon, I imagine.
