In this household, we love a good Star Trek AU 💙❤️
I will be chasing a starlight by @feyburner and @sundiscus is probably my favorite Wangxian fic ever and everyone should go read (or reread) it NOW !!!

This is funnier without context so: to Chilchuck, what does Laios Touden smell like, you think?
I think probably just Bloke! man! Varying levels of unwashed! Coworker-coded
#in weasel heart I think they have to pretty much be hugging to be more specific and possibly may only notice#specific signatures among their own people? but I think it would be fair enough to play with that a bit more#the idea of pheromones in weasel heart was to give half-foots an extra dimension of human experience that is reasonably reality-locked#but gives a sense of being a different kind of human with a different lens on the world. and a mechanism#by which they can share moods and intuitions allowing to build on the theme that their strength is each other#hold hands. make yourselves look bigger. hold on to each other. a village isn’t the place it’s the people.#so the actual sense of smell thing should operate in whatever matter serves the story.#and weasel heart is a completely different beast to any of the canons it’s making out within#I am handing my answer back to you. yours maybe different and better.#weasel heart in defiance

the thing is, FFXV is poorly written in myriad obvious ways, but when people say "well it would have been better if we had explicitly known Bahamut/The Six/The Prophecy was bad from the beginning" I mean, I'm pretty sure you were supposed to get that from the fact that the game is explicitly a tragedy and everyone is grieving each other and their youth at all times
#ffxv#cyborg rambles#like it's not... rocket science.#even without episode ardyn which DOES explicitly frame it like that#you are supposed to gather that these characters live in a cruel and uncaring world with cruel and uncaring gods#basically from jump#then of course there's the separate issue of people who think FFXV is badly written because it's a tragedy#and to that i'm just like. play a different game my dudes#ffxv is a fucking mess and you're right it is disappointing and not very good#but at some point you need to separate the mechanical reasons for why that is apart from the story itself being tragic

The cast of Blades of Light and Shadow and their Perfect Match types
Ever since I did my Blades/Elementalists attunement crossover to mark the anniversary of the Blades series, I’ve known I wanted to do something like this to mark the wide release of book three, and I love me some Perfect Match and the types system, so what better way than by incorporating that into a piece?
So the match types you see here are based on what we’ve seen of these characters up to book two, so any character evolution they may undergo in book three is not accounted for. You might also notice that, when deciding each character’s type, I went off of the core four traits instead of the match name or description, unless I needed a tiebreaker.
Finally, MC’s type is pretty subjective, as I’m sure everyone has a different idea of what their MCs are like, so for the sake of this edit set, Raine’s type is based on which traits she displays most in canon.
So, are you swiping right?
#playchoices#blades of light and shadow#perfect match#choices pm#mal volari#nia ellarious#tyril starfury#imtura tal kaelen#aerin valleros#valax#quality edits? in THIS economy???#fun fact you know how I mentioned I went off of the four traits instead of titles/descriptions?#well in Aerin’s case without looking at the traits I would’ve pegged him as a Scholar type instead but the traits said otherwise#and I realized it does fit with how he canonically uses (dry) humor as a coping mechanism. just like Damien who is the canon Joker type LI#so the actual fun fact is that if you go off of the traits he displayed BEFORE he betrayed MC in b1? THAT’S the scholar type#I just thought it was interesting when I noticed that#other fun facts is that the only two ties were with Imtura and MC and that’s when I needed the type tiebreaker#I don’t remember now what exactly Adventurer was tied with for Imtura. maybe Champion for sincerity.#I just know that when I realized I was tied between whatever it was and Adventurer it was obvious to me she should be an Adventurer#I don't remember for sure what MC’s tie was with either#but again—between whatever it was and jetsetting Diplomat it was a no-brainer for MC#final fun fact is that I was a bit shocked when Tyril and Valax yielded the same type but as soon as it sank in it felt so obvious#they’re both so driven with their causes to make the world a better place. the fact that they go about it differently doesn’t change that#anyway ramble over shoutout to anyone who got this far

thinking about Aphmau characters in a dnd-esque setting and made a few in dndbeyond using the 2024 ruleset
here's the characters I've done so far:
Aphmau - Aasimar - lvl 10 Ranger(2)/Warlock(Celestial patron, 8) - Wayfarer background - Chaotic Good 14 str, 14 dex, 13 con, 12 int, 14 wis, 15 cha An urchin on the streets of Phoenix Drop, a small coastal town, who accidentally gets the attention of a divine entity who commands her to help protect the region as an Adventurer, leading her to start putting a team together to help her
Zenix - Human - lvl 8 Rogue(Thief) - Criminal background - Chaotic Neutral 12 str, 16 dex, 13 con, 14 int, 13 wis, 14 cha genuinely just a little shit. an urchin on the streets of Phoenix Drop who steals to survive, and sometimes also for fun. Completely by accident, he gets himself wrapped up in the adventuring business when Aphmau starts putting a team together
Garroth - Human - lvl 14 Paladin(Oath of Devotion) - Noble background - Lawful Neutral 18 str, 10 dex, 14 con, 12 int, 12 wis, 15 cha Originally, he swore his oath to his younger brother, the heir to O'khasis, but after both of them abandoned their home, they were suddenly recruited by an ambitious new adventurer to join her team, accepting without any other real options
Zane - Human - lvl 13 Cleric(Grave Domain, 10)/Warlock(Fiend patron, 3) - Noble background - Neutral 8 str, 10 dex, 12 con, 15 int, 16 wis, 18 cha The former heir of O'khasis who may or may not have made a deal with a literal devil (oops). On the run with his other brother and sworn protector, eventually getting recruited to a newly forming adventurer's group
Laurance - Half-elf (woodland elf) - lvl 10 rogue(Arcane Trickster, 4)/fighter(Eldritch Knight, 6) - Merchant background - Chaotic Good 12 str, 15 dex, 13 con, 14 int, 11 wis, 16 cha A charming merchant's son from Meteli, also extremely cursed. He was driven from his hometown because of the destructive nature of the magic he was cursed with, eventually being accepted into the little adventurer's group in Phoenix Drop
Katelyn - Human - lvl 12 Monk(Warrior of the Elements, 8)/Barbarian (Berserker, 4) - Soldier background - Lawful Neutral 16 str, 16 dex, 14 con, 13 int, 14 wis, 10 cha A former guard in O'khasis, was dismissed after the sudden death of her closest friend, now caring for his daughter in the quiet town of Phoenix Drop. Until that daughter disappeared one night, and Katelyn was scouted by the newly gathering adventurer's group
Aaron - Human(??) - lvl 14 Barbarian(Wild Heart) - Noble background - Neutral 16 str, 15 dex, 15 con, 14 int - 13 wis, 10 cha Doesn't live in or even near Phoenix Drop, a feral man living in the tundra to the south who gets picked up by the group a little later on their adventures. Once, he was the Lord of a prosperous town, until a fateful night that the whole town either vanished or died. Rumours say the former lord is cursed with lycanthropy and killed them all himself in a blind rage
That's all I've got for the moment. Gonna make more later, also might turn it into a fanfic, idk
there is like, the vaguest semblance of a plot in my head rn
I have no idea if this is actually gonna go anywhere, but it was fun.
anyway, let me know what classes/subclasses I should make other characters cuz I am 100% making more of these it's very fun
edit: here's part two now that's its up

tbh i think that even unwinnable fights should be winnable. some of the BEST fights i've ever run as a dm were ones i built kill the players (in a fun way. I had some cutscenes prepped so even the loss would be a different flavour of win)- but then they were clever bastards and managed to either win the fights or pull themselves out of trouble. I think it's perfectly fine to plan for a fight that players aren't supposed to win, but you need to let them. if they can't win, they can't lose, and the meaning of that encounter is diminished. do that too many times, and they stop trusting you to give them roleplay prompts and start expecting to sit there waiting while you drive the story for them.
but if they can win... if there is always the chance to win, no matter how impossible the odds, then they ALWAYS have hope. they always get invested. they feel the big emotions of success or the big emotions of failure, and you fucking Win as a dm/roleplay prompter/lead bastard.
#qsmp neg#qsmp crit#discourse#<- for blacklists#im not grumping or anything im just musing on like. the mechanics of why everyone is so upset about the latest fight#and how it can be avoided while still keeping these fights genuinely difficult and intense#its hard because there's so many players and they all have wildly different strengths and weaknesses#so someone who could take on the code easy needs that enemy scaled differently than someone who isn't a big fighter#but it's hard to do that in a world where they interact w the same enemy#and you only have so much man-power to cater to a big server like this one#and then you bring in the big powerful items that the players can and can't access but which the admins have ultimate power over#and the fact that some of the admins themselves have lag issues or aren't super great at pvp so they accommodate that with better gear#and it starts getting messy#but for the fights themselves yeah regardless of what armour or gear or killing-methods they use there should Always be a win condition#and idk maybe there was one and we just didn't get to see it#but if that win condition is 'parents sit in the safe room with their babies while the others are overrun'#then i think there are ways to build better win conditions#anyway i love game design and player/dm interactions qsmp hire me now i want to know your behind the scenes#jk im too busy to apply#but man. i wanna nerd out so bad that sometimes i think about it

star wars outlaws
#star wars outlaws#kay vess#nix#did a brief detour into this game it isn't bad! but certainly lacks in polish for core loops. tutorialization pipelines are ass also#performance - also ass. had to play quality on ps5 for it to have any clarity at all. but the open world is gorgeous#and it certainly nails the very narrow target of horse girl star wars fantasy (ripping across tatooine on a speeder with a little Guy)#nix is everything I love him. modern star wars rarely captivates me but they do know how to do lil guys real well#my photos#star wars#also-also. would be remiss not to mention. never played a game with unregulated scope creep this noticeable before. it's baffling#I KNOW people crunched on this it's in the walls in the floorboards it's everywhere. unmitigated hodge podge of mechanics and pillars#and those pillars are often unbalanced between each other. storytelling payloads are an issue too. there's pre-rendered in-engine cutscenes#real-time in-engine cutscenes. and digic-produced full CG cutscenes. and their placement and prioritization feels insane and inscrutable#like three different teams were working on the game at the same time and never in congress or coordination#it also suffers from the open world 4th and 5th priority narrative payload issues - many secondary and sometimes even primary questgiving#and expository dialogues are in-game zoomed camera lipsync exchanges. or flavor text#on the other hand - surprisingly deft mission design itself? side quests reward either cosmetics or actual unlockable deployable skills#it has fleeting genes of a metroidvania spread across a wide open world in that sense. but only fleeting. the rep system is a smokescreen#and progression in general has a very open and unsatisfying end to it. this game needed less scope and maybe no space stuff at all#the resulting resource allocation adjustment would truly make for a captivating open world adventure. as it stands it feels like#a product of overworked people misusing mismanaged budgets and managing to sprinkle some love into it regardless#games should never be good on the merit of their perceivable seasoning of overwork and passion. that really only bakes a sadness cake

I enjoy media by getting so into it that anything I say is incomprehensible to a non fan. Sometimes even to a very casual fan.
Examples:
"MACKEREL!"
"Octokittens." / "The ship is biomechanical. The ship is sentient. The ship was also once a moon. This means that the ship, as a moon, was sentient and also at least somewhat fleshly."
"Oh. Yknow. The giant fucking angler fish god?"
"Oh. Yknow. The homophobic vase."
"Okay, but how did no-one see two children dragging a corpse to a tree?"
"The candy is a sedative!?" / "Bagged children"
"Five pebsi: triple affirmative." / "Catboy Pebbles."
"Where did you go, Tidedad?"
"If I read the word preternatural one more time I'm going to scream."
"Oh. Yknow. Erika."
#Good luck figuring these out#I'll list the Fandoms just so that literally anyone sees this#Also the best part? One of these could refer to two different ones. Have fun with that#welcome to night vale#the magnus archives#the magnus protocol#the mechanisms#the mechs#dr carmilla#mage errant#carmilla webseries#carmilla book#flight rising#rain world#little nightmares#omori#And technically#If you squint#The silt verses#(NO SILT SPOILERS PLEASE IM NOT VERY FAR ALONG)#Also have not finished the carmilla webseries because I am eepy

Ive been brewing a theory that people are obsessed with demanding media show them morally good things because we're replacing religion with tv shows and pop culture in general in our everyday life. From one story, one form of escapism that dictates our life and community seeking to another, humanity has always been the same. Or rather, there will always be forms of control to keep us occupied and distracted (at the same time it wouldn't be so effective if we weren't intrinsically wired to seek a distraction from reality, so i can't even blame people who "fall" for it. I think it's a natural instinct that helps people build a lens to approach reality through, to stay sane in a meaningless irrational world.)
#as always you know my stance that fiction does influence us remains. to think otherwise is denial#but i think it's better to engage with media that isnt 'perfect' while knowing its flaws than to pretend it didnt exist#and liking a character that does bad things doesnt make you an accessory in crime or smth#but to say oh no dont read x thing it features something bad...sure if youre only approaching things with the intent of blind worship#a bit off topic but im thinking of the people who would claim for anyone to hear they can reality shift to fictional worlds#literally whats the difference between that and dreaming messages from god or angels#i think youre all delusional but i recognize it as a powerful coping mechanism

KILL!!!!!!!!!
#my post#this is so mean. why did i make this#but also....... the gun is in your hands now#i'll admit that it's my fault for putting the gun in your hand... however i've no say in what you choose to do with it#will you pull the trigger and accept whatever happens from now on? will you give yourself into the role forced upon you?#no one will know anything if you don't say anything. there will be no consequences or repercussions to this choice#but you will know. and you will need to live with that knowledge for the rest of your life#a gun not fired is like an itch not stratched#in the end i have no control over what you do... but free will is a funny thing#the brain is very susceptible to suggestion... everything we see and experience will remain with us in some way#if that's the case then how much control do we really have in our lives? how do we separate what we really want vs what we're told to want?#things like hunger... desire... they're all things the body asks for. but are they things that we truly want?#or are they merely a mechanism built into us for the sake of survival?#everything blends into everything. your past actions will inform your current actions. you're the only one who's ever lived your life#you're the only one who will ever live your life#little variables and experiences we all share... but the order varies greatly from person to person. everything is just a series of events#the way i see the world is different than the way you see it regardless of how similar they are#what choice will you make now? and how does it differ from the choice you would've made a week ago? a month? a year? does it differ at all?#does free will truly exist? i think it does... but not in the way most people think it exists#you and i... we might differ on that thought. or we might not.#regardless of whatever i've been rambling about right now... refusing to make a choice is still a choice you make. life is ironic like that#does one of them really have to go? that's for you to decide now#i've merely chosen to put the gun in your hand. to make you aware of the possibilities#so i hope you realize what power your choices have#dca fandom#daycare attendant#yeah sometimes i just say things that i think are deep but they're really not#i hope the choices i make have an effect on others. even if it's just one person...#if i can make even just one person think about something they wouldn't have normally thought about then isn't that a win?#life is a series of choices... you mentioned a comic game and im curious as to how that works and would be done
the format is webcomic-y because it’s infinite(ish) vertical scroll of various panels. the panels are a mix of illustrations, comic pages, dialogue boxes, choice boxes, blocks of prose, audio players, and possibly videos! similar vibes to scrolling through a tumblr, lol. here’s a format prototype i made ft my other oc, as practice to start learning twine and css.
the gameplay will be mostly visual-novel-style dialogue/action choices, possibly along with an inventory, stats, and/or a little map (probably not a full walkaround map, but more along the lines of the super mario level select map). and the plot will be overall linear, working towards one consistent ending, but with options in the paths you take to get there, like isat.
i have an innovative mechanic in mind that will reduce the problem that frustrates me most when i play visual novels, with excellent ludonarrative harmony... but i'm not telling the internet about it till i actually make the game, lol. and i haven't worked on it since lockdown, so i'm thinking it'll probably be 4-12 years till i have the time and energy to get back to it and then who knows how long it'll take to actually make. but! some day!!
#i came up with the format to be a weird webcomic first#bc i love illustrated fanfic‚ and homestuck's multimedia‚ and tumblr rp blogs that take advantage of the various post types#this was also when my wrist was all fucked up so i wanted to be very efficient with my use of art#i thought i might even end up commissioning most of the artwork from various artists#and i figured mixing different art styles would compliment mixing different media#so i developed this weird webcomic format to be a best of both worlds#that lets unique artwork‚ reused artwork‚ chatlogs‚ and straight prose all do what they're best at#but then when i decided on the plot for my naiakiir story i thought it might work better as a game#and then i came up with the awesome mechanic so now it's Definitely gonna be a game#but there's no reason to throw out the unique format :3#naiakiir#tagging even though she isn't mentioned in the post at all sdkjfgdf it's still her game...#also. tbt that time i spent a couple months attempting lineless artwork in hopes it would be more efficient for comicing#silver.chat

YES YES JOIN US CRAWL INTO THE FALLOUT ITS GREAT TRUST
#cough cough if you are looking for somewhere to start new vegas or 4 are my top choices - 1 & 2 & tactics are very different from 3 NV and 4#if you are super into story FNV probably has the best writing in the series#gameplay is FO4 specialty it's story just lacks a bit though it's still a top tiered game (to me at least)#FNV also for rping aspects - as fo4 and fo3 give you backstory and a pre-made character#(though FNV technically does too through a lonesome road DLC but that's beside the point )#1 2 and tactics are the ogs before Bethesda bought the game rights so they are very different in terms of look and gameplay#(it's also because they are old but still good but I wouldn't start there tbh - as they are very brutal in difficulty#but if you want a classic game feel they are your best bet for that)#modding wise FO4 has the biggest modding scene and if on console it is the only one you can mod (without a bunch of hassle and bs)#though if you are just looking to watch it I'm not too knowledgeable since we watch mainly challenge runs#(ItsJabo - Joov - MAGOOdog - and Mitten Squad are some banger challenge runners of FO4 and FNV mainly (though Jabo does do FO3))#I have so much to say on the topic but tldr is yes join the cult I mean fun :3#its a blast - if you like open world post apocalyptic where you can blow people's heads up with makeshift weaponry- you'll have fun :3#I can go super in depth on each of the games like mechanics (like the Karma system or companions for example) with which game imo did it th#best if you want lol - many months of hyperfixation has got me here 😭 sorry for huge info dump just love these games a lot-#the summoning circle

A second fan region has officially hit the sketchbook guys.

Transcript: Bone Factory (I wont transcribe the diagram ehhhhh). Platform Spiders transport blocks to nearby facilities, and the train station as well after the transport rail (take a shot every time I say transport) collapses due to poor ground stability.

Approximate layout.
The area around the factory is filled with pollution and sinkholes, and shrouded in darkness due to being in the iterator’s shadow. There are a few inactive rooms (in the factory) due to lowered demand for bone.
Mechanics are hostile to all creatures in the factory regardless of reputation, but become neutral after Time Traveller’s drone is fixed by An Iris of Hues. The same can’t be said for the sentries.
A coloured pearl in the factory contains some old production records. Iris will go on 16 tangents.
(Transcript end)
So basically there are three sub-areas, firstly, a section with firmer ground where a few sentries patrol, creatures that call down Miros Vultures when they spot the player, or any other creature excluding Mechanics. Secondly, an area flooded with acid and marked by sinkholes, if one doesn’t feel like parkouring through wreckage platform spiders can be ridden like raindeer if they are walking in the right direction (will not turn around no matter what). Thirdly, there is the factory itself, partially lit and filled with aging but still active machinery and Mechanics that will kindly escort you out of the premise via electrocution to death.
I did a coloured concept drawing of this area at school but i uh. Don’t have it. BYE
#my post#my art#rain world oc#rain world#rain world fan creatures#rain world fan region#i remembered the fact that rain deer skulls are white recently and uh. i will not let this small caveat stop my fun headcanon#im just gonna say the scavengers painted them white or something#or maybe alter the theory to state that creature’s bones and their mechanical components are different afterall#id have to change this place’s name for that.#dang.#anyways i am thinking of doung a comic of AIOH ‘reading’ (heavy quotation marks) the aformentioned pearl to time traveller#more like summarising and then yapping about the factory for a minute and going on a tangent and trying to get back on course and then#going on yet another tangent before apologising profusely for being such a bore#i love having ocs lol

do u have any navi thoughts from your oot replay
i've been waiting to answer this until I actually beat the game in my current playthrough because navi is another one of those characters that i think of in like a "set" with several other characters who serve relatively the same thematic purpose; in this case that purpose being the "mother" character, and i wanted to have all the characters in that set fresh in my mind. it's notable that while oot shows us very clear and consistent instances of the ways in which the adults of hyrule fail to protect their children, there ARE several adults who DO go out of their way to both oppose ganondorf and protect and nurture the children under their care. All of these characters are adult women, and all of them explicitly help the children out of some sort of parental responsibility or sense of duty towards them. in this group I include link's late mother, impa, nabooru, and navi.
all 4 mother characters, despite being adults or adult-coded, reject the inaction mentality which characterizes other adults in the game. they become either direct supports or shields to their children from the conflict the world has to offer them, and they are always explicitly punished for their interference--link's mother is killed trying to protect her son, impa's village is burned, nabooru is brainwashed. The mother's fatal flaw is that she will protect her child above all else, even in a world in which children cannot truly be protected. however, with the exception of link's mother, these characters manage to persist even in the face of her punishment, and this is where I think navi becomes the exemplary character.
Navi, after a lifetime of being link's only support system, the only adult in his life he could truly, consistently count on, receives her punishment at the hands of ganondorf--in the final battle, she is pushed out. she is unable to reach her child. she cannot protect him. However, BECAUSE link has grown up with her at his side, he is strong enough to take ganondorf down. and when ganon rises again, navi is there to support link, promising not to leave his side, and the intuitive targeting of that battle (a mechanic which navi is inherently tied to!!) makes it a cinch to win. Navi, and the other mothers we meet, are a reminder to the player that the world doesn't HAVE to be the way it is. Their persistence when punished, their insistence that their children ought to be protected, is a reminder that good adults do exist, and that good adults raise good children. link and zelda are able to win in spite of the adults who refused to help them, but also BECAUSE of the adults who DID. It's a reinforcement of the core theme of oot--that childlike idea that the world SHOULD be good and fair and if it isn't, it should be changed until it is. The mothers of oot are examples of what the world COULD be, reminders that it is possible to grow up without losing hope or growing bitter, and they are examples of the next step for the children they've raised to change the word--to continue fighting even in the face of punishment, to refuse inaction, and to foster that same hope and persistence in the generations to come.
#one thing i've really been noticing this time around is the specific way in which navi's targeting works#because even though other 3d games have that targeting mechanic navi's targeting is noticeably different#in two ways. the first being that she specifically targets weak spots in enemies almost as if she is pointing them out to link#and the second being that she is capable of targeting things link himself doesn't see#whether it be invisible enemies or triggers that are out of his reach or scarecrow points or whatever#it's really reminiscent to me of the way you teach problem solving skills to a kid. you see them struggling with something and beginning to#get frustrated and you say 'hey let's look around. do you see any solutions?' and if they can't see the solution themself you might point#and say 'hey what's that?' just to get their attention on it and help facilitate that train of thought for them#because like in most other games targeting is sort of assumed to be link's own intuition in battle#and therefore it will usually allow you to focus on one enemy within a swarm of them but it won't explicitly light up the weak spot for you#navi does that for link because she's essentially the mother teaching her kid how to problem-solve.#and when she's taken away in the final battle link is able to fight anyway BECAUSE she put so much time and effort into raising him#that he no longer needs her to facilitate that problem-solving process. he already knows how to beat ganondorf#because he's done it with her before. and that's exactly the mother's role in her child's life#protect him and raise him as best you can so that when you can no longer be by his side he isn't afraid.#foster that sense of justice and encourage him to keep fighting to change the world even when it seems unchangeable.#god. ocarina of fucking time#zelda analysis#asks
