hello!! do you have any series, animes/mangas, movies you reccommend? i really adore your tastes in things and im curious to know where you take those impeccable tastes from!!

Doing this quickly to avoid putting every single thing I like in here for you like a crazy person, most of them will be things I ran into when I was younger and still really like- I find that those have shaped my taste a lot as I got older. There aren't that many mangas because I just wasn't in an area that was good for finding new releases + I can't remember the dumb little shoujos I read online by now. But I will say that I'm fairly picky when it comes to media in terms of having competent writing and engaging characters. Also fair warning about some of the older shows- while I would rather be shot than watch 10 more seconds of a show with a panty shot there is nothing I can do about 2000s anime brand homophobia Ghibli (meaningful look at the camera) just in general. Though my favorite things about Miyazaki's films come more from his social commentary and cosmologies rather than just how pretty the films are (but they are VERY pretty). Working class rights Literally any 2000s pokemon movie I'm not kidding about this. The Lugia one IN PARTICULAR but seriously any of them I went crazy for pokemon Inuyasha (2000 anime) Dungeon Meshi (2014 manga. When this anime comes out I'm going to explode or something) Blue Giant (2013 manga. This is also becoming an anime so I hope there's enough viscera left for me to explode a second time) The Vision of Escaflowne (1996 anime + the movie too. It's silly and weird but still feels fine to watch) Last Exile (2003 anime) Stardust (2007 live-action film) The Last Unicorn (1982 animated film) DragonHeart (1996 live-action film) Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (2007 anime) X'amd: Lost Memories (2009 anime) Fruits Basket (2001 anime, the new one is really good though) Princess Jellyfish (2014 anime) Princess Tutu (2002 anime) Origin: Spirits of the past (2006 animated film) Secret of Kells (2010 animted film) Souleater, Naruto, Ouran Highschool Host club.... + my friend got a Shonen Jump magazine in 2011 when he traveled out of state and it had like. One chapter of something called Tegami Bachi. I was obsessed with the character designs and didn't know literally anything about the story. I still don't. sorry Tegami Bachi fandom your little boy in a hat transfixed me. This is worth mentioning because I used to trace pictures of him on the windows in my room This is an intensely truncated list but lmk if you end up watching even one. These dumb things made me so happy to be a kid

the “you remember my name right?” bit is funnier in the anime because I don’t think he told Laios at all. Like in the manga he introduces himself when he first meets Laios, but in the anime he just never mentions his own name so I really think Laios genuinely hasn’t heard his name yet.

Edit: people are saying that Laios DID say Kabru’s name at one point so I’m gonna rewatch and try to confirm or deny this and I apologize if I lied to… *checks notes* 800+ people 🫡

Edit to the edit: I rewatched both episodes and (at least in the English dub) Laios is never told and never says Kabru’s name

Also I don’t necessarily see this as a bad thing the anime did that the manga did right I just think its funny that Kabru, who forgot to introduce himself because he was fangirling, is like “hey do you remember my name?” And Laios, who has never heard this man’s name, is like “Uhhh yeah man totally!”

Can we get a rec list for shojo? I've been picking up shows you write for (like jjk) but I enjoy shojo too and I think I would enjoy similar shows to you. If not thats okay too!

uhhh i only have a few that i would actively recommend but!!! i feel very passionately about all of them. not all shows have to be fanfic fodder. some can just be fun.

♥ horimiya. it's a classic and has literally no flaws to speak of. never before has a heterosexual romance been so queer-coded and never will it be again.

 ♥ ouran high school host club - the anime AND the manga!!! i know everyone's already seen the anime half a dozen times, but if you liked it, i'd really recommend picking up the manga. it's aged pretty well (all things considered) and does in fact have an actual plot with a real and satisfying ending, something that i can tragically not say for the anime.

♥ jibaku shounen hanako-kun/toilet bound hanako-kun. it is vaguely shounen coded but don't let the occasional fight scene fool you, this one is for the girls <3 i'd recommend watching the anime and picking up the manga from there, since both have a really unique and charismatic art style and are very good in their own right. there are ghosts. there are gay people. the heroine is trying to brute force her reality into becoming a rom/com and repeatedly turns into a fish. what's not to love.

♥ i'm in love with the villainess!!! i would STRONGLY recommend this if you are both gay and have been repeatedly abused by just,,, so many early 2010s dating sims. the animation is a little rough at times but overall it's very enjoyable and has a surprising amount of lore. i'd also very strongly recommend watching the english dub. the mc is just,,, yeah. that's a woman who's been in the trenches y'know.

♥ the ancient magnus bride. it has aged contentiously but if you can get past the 'sixteen year old x immortal eldritch being' thing then it WILL emotionally wreck you. the ost is also just,,,, delectable. they should really pull out the lute more often that shit goes hard.

♥ welcome to demon school! irumu-kun! people will tell you that this is a shounen and those people are WRONG!!! never before has an anime been so deeply concerned with love and friendship and putting everybody's favorite little guys in situations that make you wonder if it truly is gay to kiss the homies goodnight. the animation is very rough but in a very charming way, and mc has a very cute, very prominent romance with a woman who could snap him over her knee like a twig. then english dub cast is doing the goddamn most too, but feel free to consume it however you see fit.

Spy x Family Operation Diary - Character conversations

I'm back with another Operation Diary post! There's a ton of adorable and funny conversations between the characters throughout the game. I wanted to highlight some of my favorites and provide translations.

*Note: The game uses parentheses to show that a character is thinking the dialogue as opposed to speaking. For my translations, I'll be using parentheses and italics.

There aren't any major Twiyor scenes in the game, but this one's pretty cute - takes place when they decide to go on an outing at Penguin Park. It's a nice callback to the aquarium chapter/episode.

Loid: Penguin Park, huh?

Yor: (Come to think of it, Loid was also really engrossed by the penguins last time.) Um, Loid, it would be great if we could see the cute penguins!

Loid: Huh? Uhhh...yeah, sure...? (What...? Yor liked the penguins?)

Anya: (Papa and Mama are funny.)

The game actually has a few Yor and Fiona interaction, though they're mostly like this.....just Fiona having her usual unhinged thoughts, lol.

Yor: Being with Anya is so much fun. Raising her isn't difficult at all.

Fiona: (Hm...really trying to be a mother, huh? You'd better watch out now, Yor Forger...you'll be kicked out soon enough!)

In this next one, Loid is having trouble getting Anya to study, so he breaks out the cringe Penguinman voice 😂

Anya: Agent Penguinman?

There were so many cute Yor & Anya interactions, a couple of which show how Yor will always protect Anya from danger ❤️

Anya: Mama! There's a crab!

Yor: Be careful not to get your hands pinched.

Anya: (Anya will be careful...for the sake of Mr. Crab, too...)

Anya: (She can beat sharks too?! Mama's amazing!)

Just like the resort island in the anime/manga, Anya has to remind Loid to be a "fun dad" at the resort in the game!

Anya: RESORT!

Loid: Don't jump, you'll fall.

Anya: Papa...I heard that a normal papa would jump and fly around with his daughter at a time like this.

Loid: (Is it really necessary to put on the family act at a tourist location?) Ok, let's enjoy the resort!

Anya: Papa's so simple.

Yor: Uh? Um, I suppose so...I like black and red. (In times of crisis, blood showing would be troublesome...)

Anya: (...!)

Yor: Let's buy ingredients for dinner on the way home. I'll cook dinner today.

Anya: (The last supper...) Anya isn't hungry yet. Anya will play more.

Loid: You must be tired too, Yor. I'll cook dinner today.

And lastly, Anya sings this adorable little song while drawing a picture of the family (while Loid is trying desperately to get her to study!)

Anya: Hm, hm, hm~ Papa and Mama~ Together with Anya, such a close family~

Loid: Hey, Anya! Stop drawing and listen to what I'm saying!

I mostly focused on the family interactions since those are my favorites, but there are a ton of cute/funny conversations between Anya, Becky, and Damian as well! There's also much longer special event cutscenes that play when Anya speaks to certain characters enough times (and triggers the unique illustrations I posted here). But those are several minutes long each, and my Switch can only save video clips up to 30 seconds. But if you plan to play the game when it releases internationally in a few months, you can look forward to seeing those for yourself 😃

anyway formatting the last post was kinda hell for me. which is why I'll do the same exact formatting for this one...

1. Valley of The Dolls by MARINA

"In the valley of the dolls, we sleep" -> his adoptive mother, Milsiril, is a big fan of collecting dolls. Like, plushies of everything. She animates them to fight, but they're also there to soothe her. She also adopts a lot of children from short-lived races who don't have a family and she got allegations that she treats them all like her dolls lmao... I mean she kind of does in the sense that they're all precious to her. She does respect their autonomy but uhhh still living with such a doting and overbearing/overprotective mother makes u wanna break outta the dollhouse the cage . be free . hashtag transgenderism also gosh im getting off topic . anyway i bet Kabru slept with a lotta those dolls. in his comfy bed . that he left behind because hes not abt that life mama he wanna see the world and save it and get killed in dungeons. boy.

"Got a hole inside of me / Living with identities / That do not belong to me" -> Grouping these lyrics together because it makes sense for my twisted narrative i mean my very real and based takes. Anyway, he's got a hole inside of him the void in his heart (in his mind) and thats why. his autism and ptsd masking swag. thats as eloquent as i can put it. theres a lot more i can say though

"In my life, I got this far" -> He survived the tragedy of Utaya his hometown . the bloodbath because of the dungeon. It has to be for a purpose ™ . It's because he has to save the world from suffering the same fate and it's his burden to bear it's his purpose it was why he survived (the survivor's guilt... goodness man. trauma processing of all time. :[ )

"Now I'm ready for the last hoorah" -> boy . letting these panels speak for itself. putting it under the cut because spoilers for the peeps seeing this maintagged and they're not caught up with manga .

yeah boy hes falling. fallen. uhm. in the pit. Ready for the last hoorah in this case like. yeah 🤣 just leaving it up to laios (Liar . kabru and mithrun dungeon adventure speedrun)

"Dying like a shooting star" -> guy keeps dying. not even like a shooting star really. well. ig hes going out in style somewhat id getting crushed by Falin's chimera dragon claw counts as shooting star style

2. Lip Sinking by The Hoosiers

We all know Sash does not play about The Hoosiers which is why I have 26 damn The Hoosiers songs on there I should get awarded tbh .

Now Lip Sinking is really good because it's another one of those scammer / masking guy anthems i keep talking about. These lyrics in Verse 5 in particular is really easy to match to Kabru's character moment™ though, so let's break it down.

"I float above my body" -> Common depersonalization experience. For trauma reasons, Kabru probably feels like this a lot sometimes but specifically in this scene...

(apologies for no alt text peeps . but this is the friendship confession scene for those in the know if it hasnt loaded in yet)

anyway, back to the show (psychoanalyzing Kabru) . I think this disconnect with his words VS his thoughts and his heart is so real. Like. seeing urself out of ur body is again a depersonalization thing, and idk if hes feeling depersonalization in this moment specifically but he was really out of it and in a sort of , scrambled and intensely anxious state. His usually calm and cool persona slash facade is Crumbling and man he hates that .

"Must be out of my mind / Cos I watch myself / Getting it wrong everytime" -> He's like. man what the hell am I saying

letting the page speak for itself again because It's like. its there i mean its in tha text what am I supposed to dissect hes dissecting himself already 🤭😭 okay. 'What am I saying' 'I can't find the words' so true man idk what the hell im saying either rn

"I can't tell you how I'm really feeling" -> because he doesn't know his own emotions. He thinks he does, he has been so good at controlling them and like being fake about what he's truly feeling in his heart, adjusting his personality for others' sake. So they trust him, believe in him, listen to him. But for Laios, how does he even say anything? Before this, the words just spilling out, he didn't even know how he felt about Laios. It sounds ridiculous even to himself and that's why he clamps his mouth afterwards but indeed it Is what he was truly feeling all along... (and then Laios thinks he's lying and hes like "NO BITCH!!!? what?!!!?! im being vulnerable and honest rn?!?" )

"Cuz I'm just lip-syncing" -> for so long that's what he's been doing. lip syncing, saying things he doesn't really mean to influence others' perception of him... but this time his mouth moved faster than his mind racing with thoughts. that he's able to convey what he truly wanted all along and finally admit to himself and his own consciousness. like. aaaahgh. man hes so special to meeee....

bonus: the outro's lyrics is rlly good aha. he can finally say what he actually feels... he can be #real.

3. Allies or Enemies by The Crane Wives

This one is . a lot of vibes I think.

"Are we allies or enemies? / This will be the death of me / This will be the death of me" -> He legit says this to Laios . like hes still wondering if they're allies or enemies . Technically he doesn't want them to be enemies. he's cautious but he knows Laios isn't really a bad guy but like, his mind just keeps fixating on Laios and the steps he takes to get the dungeon under control so. hes desperately trying to figure it out because goodness this guy is so. waugh

"All is fair in love and war, but I can't fight with you anymore / This will be the death of me" -> his mental conflict is sooo tasty to me. like . all is fair in love and war !!! any method is justifiable !!! means justifies the ends but also he understands that in the end he can't fully wrap his head around Laios' love of monsters but he knows that Laios will be the one to conquer the dungeon because he also loves his family. He can't fight with him anymore and he can't "kill" him anymore because somehow this man has wormed his way in. well, he never wanted him dead in the first place but I find that he often thinks about killing him to save humanity from his... well. freakishness (complimentary) (concerning sometimes) ;;; but in the end Kabru lets him go and is willing to trust and support Laios till the end ... also once again the repetitiveness of "this will be the death of me" because he's stressed as helll!!!!

"What happens now, do we have another go?" -> I think this is post-Marcille being talked down out of being dungeon lord . Kabru's probably like ok so now what. well. Laios goes its my turn with the dungeon lording 😭😭 (and shit goes down) (but its okay he got it covered)

"Do we bow out and take our seperate roads?" -> Now this is probably when they're (the whole gang) is like "WHERE'S LAIOS DID HE DIE?" no he lives guys its fine. and namari toshiro and kabru run at him in relief. wauh. and also ofc the whole people coming together to eat faligon meat and save Falin ... yippeee... so yeah they don't go seperate roads because Kabru is like yeah imma be Laios' pr manager . #royaladvisor . sticking with him fr fr

"I'll admit I had my doubts / But I want to be let in, not out / But I want to be let in, not out" -> again the repetition ... of him wanting to help. I've mostly been talking abt how this entire song is Kabru's conflicted thoughts @ Laios but this can also be Kabru lending a helping hand to Mithrun at the end of everything. Because he's the one to like help Mithrun realize that there is a purpose to living and like . new desires and ppl who care abt him... but also yeah Kabru "i want to be let in, not out" because he wants to help out Laios with running the new kingdom instead of being in the background again and being ignored ahhaa he wants to be friends for real (and maybe even . lovers. lets go gay people)

39) What's the most unusual thing you've ever eaten? during a drinking game I once took a shot that included; soy sauce, fish sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vodka, a warhead (sour lolly), fanta, and probably some other stuff I'm not sure I was very drunk and 18 year olds should not be unsupervised with that much alcohol bc they'll invent the world's worst drinking games

A friend of mine sat me down in front of her family computer in their bible library (not a joke, whole library of bibles & Christian religious texts) & said hey. have you heard there are people on the internet who write stories about these two guys from this one series kissing? and I was immediately hooked lol

41) Make a list of 5 things that you see without getting up. work laptop (bc I am on the clock oops), personal PC, crochet project, calcifer plush, & my cat glaring at me from my computer tower bc I wouldn't let him sit on my keyboard

42) How do you style your hair? Well it was a mullet but it's super grown out now so it's more of a shag & I mostly just chuck it in a bun or something. I desperately want to shave it but it's so cold, idk maybe I'll just make a few beanies & buzz it anyway

How do we feel about this uhhh character design in Master Detective Archives: Rain Code?

While playing through Rain Code (I'm midway into Chapter 4 now), I've so far been a little disappointed to find that everybody in Kanai Ward seems to be similarly pasty. I mean... I get that the city has been under a constant cover of clouds and rain for three years now, but I still thought there could be some indications of more diversity among the citizens. Not that I'm surprised by this, but it's still occurred to me.

Then I finally met SERVAN. And right away, he's contributing to Kanai Ward's diversity by being one of the "This guy's design style isn't the same as most everyone else" characters we've come to expect from games where Rui Komatsuzaki is handling the designs.

HOWEVER...! There is more to it than that.

People talk a lot about chemistry or dynamic between characters. This character has best chemistry with that character. It leads to assumptions that good chemistry is the highest rank in character's relationship, the most qualified one even if they're platonic or not romanticized. How do you think the importance of this 'chemistry'?

is this about jigokuraku?? idk but let's just say this is jigokuraku hehe (since the only fandom I've talked abt this topic on is jigokuraku cause there will always be an endless battle between gabiyui vs gabisagi out there)

for me, chemistry plays a lot in a character's relationship, may it be romance, friendship, battle partnership (like when they duel the same enemy together), work, etc etc. but for me, even if two characters have an insane amount of chemistry together, it doesn't mean they're going to be good romantic partners or what not bcos that's not how romantic relationships work (even in real life)

remember, chemistry is just one thing. however, having your own character development while being invested in that romantic development is another thing. plus, many factors can ruin a character's romantic chemistry with another character (e.g. social status, difference in goals, beliefs, romantic interests)

you might think gabimaru and sagiri can easily be together but there are so many reasons the ship ain't happening aside from the fact that they don't have feelings for one another. remember, gabimaru's end goal after the island does not align with sagiri's ultimate goal in life.

and if gabimaru was uhhh let's say to marry sagiri, he would have to give up everything he had before and be a part of the asaemon and that involves killing again and like what the manga and anime emphasize, gabimaru doesn't want to kill for a living anymore. and our girl sagiri is a samurai and she kills people for a living. ya think that kind of marriage will work? no. besides marrying sagiri would mean gabimaru abandoning yui and there is no freaking way gabimaru will abandon his wife for a girl he just met for a few days the same way sagiri will not marry a man just bcos that is what she is supposed to do as a woman during their time period.

so yeah, gabimaru and sagiri both have tons of chemistry as friends and as executioner-criminal duo. but other than that, their romantic chemistry is like little to none.

(tbh people who kept on saying sagiri should be gabimaru's wife are disregarding her goal to become a samurai just like how the other characters looked down on her. sagiri doesn't want to become anyone's wife; she wants to become a samurai worthy of her clan and soon become the clan head)

Ranking of Kings is a web manga turned anime by WIT studio (same people who did Attack on Titan and Spy x Family). You can watch it on Crunchyroll or easily pirate it on any anime site lol. You could also read the manga, which I really only recommend doing AFTER you watch the anime. If you know WIT studio, you know they love to cut content in their adaptations for super snappy pacing. it works, but you're going to miss a lot of character developing moments for side characters.... and also some important world building.

Maybe it will tide you over until I get that last chapter of An Insulting Indifference finished XD

Rukia? All her major achievements are treated like "Oh yeah btw she can do that. Uh anyways-" Also Byakuya had to save her ass when she was supposed to be avenging him. Not cool bro.

Orihime? God tier superpowers and an amazing character on paper that gets given the shounen female love interest treatment and gets tossed aside to be useless half the time.

Rangiku? Half fan service. Getting on top of a highschooler while you're buck ass naked is not cool bro. Also she was interesting up until the point Gin died. Then she was just kinda there.

Momo? At the start, she's great, if understated. She's having to cope with being groomed and come to terms with it. It was going great at the start but then after she got stabbed the second time, her arc just kinda...stopped. Her character arc felt downright incomplete.

Nel? Uhhh... At least the fan service is separate from her toddler form?? Still weird. Could've been interesting but got designated to the background.

Yoruichi? Blatantly sexually harasses and assaults teenage boys. I doubt she's actually a pedophile or anything, but that doesn't make shoving your boobs in a child's face to purposefully agitate him and then proceed to mock him for being snappy with you (justice for byakuya) not sexual assault. She's cool, she's hot, she could be amazing! But nope. She's a predator, and it's played for laughs. Ruined.

Unohana? Entirely uninteresting for 99% of her manga lifespan and then is suddenly made extremely interesting just for the sake of killing her off for Kenpachi's character development.

Hikifune? Fatphobic bullshit.

Giselle? Blatant transphobia.

Kukaku? Highly intriguing. But does literally nothing the entire story.
