I completely 200% feel you, but I'm trying to think of it like this. Since all of the most awful people in the world are doing their utmost to help Trump win, think of how incredibly satisfying it will be if we all put in the work and make him fucking lose anyway. So many truly horrible people, especially Trump himself, are going to have a Real Bad Time if he loses this election again, with work and effort on our part this is still completely possible, and I for one vote we give it to them without delay. So. Yeah.

I'm kinda new to the fandom and you seem to rec fics that I don't see around a lot. Any older SC fics I should look up?

Well I dunno how much I can vouch for my taste but SC fics I really like that are more than a few years old:

Where Lamps Go to Die by WastedOn - Kara pretends to be in a relationship with Supergirl and Lena gets jealous (probably my absolute favorite SC fic. One of the first I read and genuinely a lot of fun)

lena dies on a wednesday by @karalovesallthegirls - Lena is trapped in a loop, reliving the day she dies over and over again. She just doesn’t know it. (I think this was one of the first SC fics I ever read? absolutely fantastic)

in the shadow of that green light also by @karalovesallthegirls - Kara wakes from an accident with no memory and a mysterious caretaker who creates more questions than she answers. (I'm not normally one for horror but this is SO good and makes me want to rattle the bars of my enclosure it's so good)

good, this is good, but in order to make this post truly complete we need to start from the very beginning. and that is Ishmael (Rider) (4* generic summoning pool) and Ishmael Alter (Berserker) (5* Story Locked, for those of you unfamiliar with FGO this basically means "Limited with extra steps and less banners")

Zwei Ishmael (Saber) (4* Welfare)

so following up is Zwei Ishmael - Summer Defender (Alter Ego) (5* Limited SSR that's one of the big Summer Event units which means there's like two other highly valuable summoning campaigns happening at the same time). we learn she's an Alter Ego because three Divine Spirits have been merged with her to make her a High Servant for arbitrary event reasons and also those Divine Spirits decided she needs to be in a bikini

so then after that is Zwei Ishmael Alter (Pretender) (4* Limited SR) and this is Ishmael Alter/Captain Ishmael who is now a Pretender not because of any interesting reasons but rather that she is pretending to be the deckhand or something when she's really the captain or whatever. she is part of the same event as Crayon and the one right before. people correctly predicted the absolute living hell that would be the summer event in two years:

the barely clothed Crayon alt is Ishmael Lily (Caster) (5* Limited SSR) that is released like two full years after her introduction that is ALSO a mega whale Servant. she's actually part of the same event that Zwei Ishmael Alter is from but she isn't in the game until the next Summer Event banners and like usual for Summer every fucking targeted SSR is absurdly strong so you need to decide if she's one of the three units you're going to whale for or not. no matter how hard you try to avoid it you will never escape the discourse of "does liking Ishmael Lily make you a pedophile" unless you completely disconnect from the internet for the entire event for anything except playing FGO directly. she's also best friends with Abby for no real reason. oh yeah Abby also had a rate-up right before the Summer Event. both regular and Summer they are of course two separate banners with their own pity as is the norm.

Zwei Ishamel The Santa Fixer (Rider) (4* Welfare Servant) a big joke that persists the entire Christmas event is Ishmael being shocked she gets to be a Rider again and also she complains the entire fucking goddamn event about how she's supposed to be a sailor and the game has seemingly decided she is instead a swordswoman that is never allowed to be a Rider.

please let me know if any of you have any different takes on this i spent too much time on it as it is. i feel like the only thing i'm not really nailing here is Alter Ego. you know as well as i do though Crayon Ishmael's discourse would be fucking absolutely out of the world i'm very confidant in this one at least

Code Geass altered me irrevocably as a human being but not when I watched it. It GRIPPED me when I watched it because it has a lot of tropes I like and really aggressive pacing, but at the end I was like, "...Huh." And then I rewatched it and I was like "Huh..." And then every four or so years I would remember it existed and spend a bit going hey, actually, what the FUCK was that. Each time I had forgotten more about Code Geass which allowed the massive amount of EXTRA NOISE in this show to fall away until I was eventually face to face with the naked bones of the Lelouch-and-Suzaku Thing that led up to it ending like that, and I realized that this is actually one of the most metal and geometrically structured tragedy plotlines I've ever seen. Having gripped this clarity the rest of the Stuff was able to filter back in and I can now better appreciate the improbable circus of the CLAMP designs and the Pizza Hut partnership and the patchwork explosion of genres and the halfassed salvo at being a waifu property and the There Was An Attempt at saying something about ableism and the vaguely applied Arthuriana &c &c &c all built out from, again, one of the most balls to the wall hourglass plots I have ever seen. It's about wanting to die, it's about wanting to live, it's about loyalty, it's about how all these things are tainted under imperialism. Critical parts of it make absolutely no goddamn sense. I'm obsessed with it. I have never completed a third rewatch.

Verstappen fans lives in delusion to like their driver's personality because the real verstappen is a certified racist and asshole who doesn't really care about discrimination, inequality or any other "rights" as much as they think he does. They looovee to blame everything on team as if he's not in it. They think nelson piquet can still come to the grid after using slur because of red bull. Who's going to tell them verstappen is the one sleeping beside and fathering one piquet spawn lol. They think their driver is soo pookie can't do anything wrong doesn't really like the people they willingly associate with like be fr that guy's a fucking adult.

I don’t disagree honestly. I know a lot of people who have in the past supported max or still do, and I understand how they get there and why it can be SO hard to step back and realise someone you loved is an asshole, and they no amount of coddling him is gonna make him change, but I do believe that while with some drivers there’s cases for and against, Max is a slam dunk golden ribbon arsehole, and he has done nothing to ever seem like he wants that to change

There’s only so much you can ignore- and I’m of the opinion you shouldn’t ignore any of it, but max has run the gamut from supporting the right wing to personally celebrating racists like piquet, to openly scoffing in a black man’s face who personally explained why he needed his support, to combining racist and ableist slurs and threatening physical violence at anyone who pushes back. For all fans like to blame his dad for that he sure doesn’t seem to, and at a certain point you have to accept that no amount of abuse makes that behaviour okay, especially if the guy who was abused seems to be happy to celebrate it.

There are shades of black and white to all drivers but at this point max is edging from charcoal into fuckin vanta black, and I have to ask people why are you bending over backward to defend a man, who does not want you to defend him. He believes what he says, and no amount of text posts will change that

(Gosh I hope this doesn't sound too vague) That one part in Sonic Rider dub where a bunch of the manufactured robots realize they're mass produced and have existential crises over it.

The Invader was probably my favorite character in the movie, at first I was confused why Marvin wasn't playing the alien antagonist role, but by the end this guy really stood out on his own

THE INVADER IS A LOT OF FUN! tbh i didn’t really have any strong feelings on him at first (pig and duck bias), but i was able to appreciate him a lot more in my latest rewatch in the theater. it would have been neat to see Marvin in his place, especially since Duck Dodgers (the show) shows that he does have the capacity to be a serious threat, BUT i love how limber and exaggerated his animation could be. i think he fits the hysteria of the film well while also preserving the more slow, creeping moments. i love Marvin and would have loved to have seen him (again, rip to the Duck Dodgers film proposed in the ‘90s), but i ultimately think The Invader was the best call because a) the “synergy” and recognizability of Marvin could maybe be a bit distracting and take away from any threat he posed, and b) his whole thing is that he’s an absolute dweeb!! Chuck Jones originally named him Antwerp because he looks like an ant and he’s a twerp! and as the story of the film survives now, i think casting an entirely new character was the best bet for preserving the sort of intimidation they were wanting to go for
