hi!!! i've been following you since before you started posting gf stuff and it makes me SO happy to see you posting so much trans girl dipper now, your art of her (which btw your artstyle is adorable) has really been making the rounds and i love that the fandom at large is finally opening their eyes to the potential of that hc. but also... what do you think of transmasc mabel? it's not a very popular headcanon but i think she could easily go down the weird little girl to weird young man pipeline :3
tysm!!! this is so sweet :D its been nice that most people have been so receptive of transfem dipper because i was honestly worried id get more hate for it than I have been getting!
heres some transmasc mabels from a few months ago, including mabro from the lost legends comics bc he is like definitely transmasc to me LOL. i love this headcanon for him tbh weird little girl to weird young man is so befitting in a way i think is fascinating! if there are fans of this headcanon out there, id love to hear what you love about it!!
Tumblr media
I like the headcanon!! im honestly really open to most headcanons irt mabel, i dont have a specific one because mabel is a very fluid character to me, constantly shifting in my head… transfem, transmasc, genderfluid… either aro or bi… mabel is just so lovely, I guess my head isn’t set on anything specific. interestingly enough, this is usually the case for me! its rare for me to have a set headcanon for a character like i do with dipper, but its fun for me like that! it means i can okay around with the characters in my head. dress em up!

When Mabel gets a rip or her stitches get loose and burst at the seams, does her stuffing count as her version of blood or no?
-Dipper, writing frantic questions in the Journal as he first documents the curse.
Haha, but yeah, almost? If she had her cloth skin torn out stuffing would come out. Sort of blood, sort of...her muscles and organs?? I guess? Losing a lot of stuffing would make it hard for her to move around and make her feel very weird and fuzzy. But unlike blood and organs, she or someone else can just shove the stuffing back in and stitch the 'wound' and she's back to being right as rain in a day.
Dipper doesn't really have an equivalent to blood in the same way. He might have an equivalent to sweat by way of that weird not-quite-sticky texture wooden things get when the varnish grows old, because that's very funny to me. He feels like that when he gets nervous now.

So I highly doubt this is either what you OR the show is going for in relation to Bill's backstory as it would feel like a cop-out of Bill's crimes (and obviously does not erase his interdimensional crime sprees or anything else lol), but one thing that I think would be interesting to explore- is if Bill is innocent of destroying his dimension, but unaware and only is 100% convinced that whatever he did is at fault. If made aware of this, his whole reasoning of liberating his dimension would fall apart after all. He'd probably be in denial at first but if shown irrefutable proof? I wonder what that would do to him. I am pretty certain a non-zero amount of his current sparkling personality is influenced by the trauma of destroying his own dimension and the denial that brought. What do you think?
It's a fascinating idea! Not something I'd want to be canon (for the cop-out reason you mentioned), but fun for a thought experiment or a what-if fic. If explored in depth it could also have some interesting parallels to the Stan twins and their disproportionate "I ruined everything, it's all my fault, I must spend the rest of my life atoning for this crime" guilt.
At this point, I think Bill has defined himself SO long by the guilt of destroying his dimension (whether he admits he feels "guilty" or not) that I feel like at this point, if you told him it wasn't his fault, even if you showed him completely undeniable proof, he'd just, decide not to believe it. Even if he "knows" it wasn't his fault now he just has to push that away and pretend otherwise.
It's a well-known psychological phenomenon that sometimes, if you've invested too much of your self-image in a certain belief, even if that belief hurts you deeply, your mind thinks it's more painful to let go of that belief. If your identity is based in that belief then killing the belief feels like killing a part of yourself. Who are you without it?
It hurts less to just refuse to accept it. To choose to keep believing the lie. Sunk cost fallacy writ large; Bill has sunken a trillion years of costs into this belief. And he's very, very good at lying to himself.
He might get desperate to believe in his own guilt, maybe try to prove that he really did do it and really was that evil—perhaps by destroying another dimension the same way.
Maybe the one thing that could crack through his denial is finding he can't bring himself to do it.
I prefer it when Bill actually really did destroy his dimension; but I think that would make for a fascinating story, huh?

I feel like Kat would struggle. Just a little bit. She’s been introduced to this new wide open world and yet, she’s kinda kept on the outskirts. For her safety of course, but at what point does keeping her out of the loop protect her. I feel like she’d honestly benefit from outside perspective. Idk. Like Stan and Ford. They’ve seen the damage the supernatural and the alien can do, more importantly what damage hiding secrets can do. At the end of the day, it’s the connections you make and foster that make everything worth it. It’s one of the strongest things in the universe that kind of bond. And all the reaction might be different compared to if it was still midseason gravity Falls versus end of gravity Falls, I feel Ford would have so advice about balancing her research and life. Maybe there’s something in his journals that cross into Kat’s.
This question you have brings me to an original thought I had (and I’ll get to the real meat of your question, I just wanted to add my idea in here). Alice Azure (one of many great grandchildren to be from Franklin & Aria McFadden’s family) would not be one to keep secrets from her. After all, with Kat being so curious about what else is out there and Alice’s extensive experiences with the strange and mysterious? It’s a pretty good match, one that Alice is open with sharing with her if she’s interested.
Kat is, but I think now it does lean towards her distracting herself from, well, everything. Perhaps not a good distraction, but I digress. Alice in this case doesn’t intend to treat her like a child. That whole “bossing around” thing isn’t really Alice’s style. Her style is more like letting others learn from themselves on how to traverse the world. At most, she’s just a reliable guide to Kat. Physically being there for her. Making sure she doesn’t get hurt or worse.
I don’t think they’d see each other as sisters, but there could be moments that say otherwise.
ANYWAY- To your question!
Kat is indeed in need of looking at things from different perspectives. Each person has a different unique view of the world, so people like Stan and Ford would be really nice to have. Even if it’s not for long (though that timeline is REALLY FUNKY cause this Casper AU takes place in 1999 and Gravity Falls is set in like 2012, I think:/ But what you have added is really good)

People talk about "No Children" by the Mountain Goats being an epic divorce anthem (which it is) but what about "(I Want to Be the One) to Watch You Die" by the Megas? That song takes it a step further from "I *hope* you die" to "I am actively sending my robot son to kill you"
Anon, you sent this to me literally last august, and I've been feeling SO guilty because I wanted so badly to respond and I kept putting imaginary stipulations on being able to listen to the song and therefore never being able to, but I've FINALLY MANAGED IT! You're so right and also it was a great song <3

Hello, I really like your fanfic about Suho😊🤩😘. I imagine Suho accidentally catching Reader, who is free falling in the air. They don't remember anything about their past. Suho will have to learn how to take care of someone who doesn't even have an ID and there is no missing person news or missing case. The police are also stumped by Reader's case.
Hello, anonym, I tried my very best to fulfill your request. Hope you enjoyed it.
Fallen Angel?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aargh--
There was a faint sound that seemed to come from nowhere.
It was the kind of sound that was easy to overlook, too indistinct to pinpoint, so most people simply ignored it because they think it's just an illusion
But Suho caught it—the echo of a scream that felt distant and unstable But he can't pinpoint where did that sound come from the sound echoed faintly in his ears.
Beru, who was with him, also noticed it, his senses heightened at the thought of an impending confrontation.
Suho scanned his surroundings, finding nothing unusual, until he finally glanced up at the sky. That’s when he saw her—a woman plummeting from above, with no tall buildings around to indicate where she might have fallen from.
There was no time to being surprised and ponder how she ended up there; if Suho didn’t act fast, she would hit the ground hard, with no way to soften her fall.
Suho didn't hesitate for a moment as he dashed to save the woman, who was plummeting faster due to the pull of gravity. In his panic, he completely forgot about the Monarch's authority and his own abilities.
With a loud thud, Suho managed to catch her, his body jolting from the sudden weight and force of the fall. Thankfully, he held on tight, letting out a sigh of relief as he realized he hadn’t let her slip away.
If my reflexes hadn’t been quick, I wouldn’t have been able to catch her at all.
Gently, Suho placed the woman on the ground. She was unconscious now, despite having screamed just moments before. Perhaps the shock of her near-death experience had taken its toll.
I was left with a burning curiosity about what had happened to her without nobody I can asked. I can I can rub my hair in annoyance, don't know what to do with this sudden incident.
I analyze the girl appearance further. The beautiful woman had long hair and wore a simple shirt and pants, showing no visible injuries. At first glance, she appeared perfectly normal, but Suho sensed something was off.
He realized that something wasn’t right. With no tall buildings around, there were only two explanations: she had either flown through the sky or had been dropped from above.
"Young master, I believe that she part of itarim, an ordinary human being cannot possibly fall from the sky without knowing where she fell from." Beru wisely tried to persuade Suho that the woman was dangerous and should be killed immediately before causing trouble to his young master.
Suho pondered the possibility that what Beru was said might actually be true.
Beru had a point; ordinary humans typically wouldn’t encounter bizarre occurrences like this, even in a world where dungeons could appear unpredictably.
For an average person lacking special abilities, the worst fate would be to get pulled into a dungeon and perish without a chance to escape. However, falling from the sky certainly indicated that this woman was mixed up in something questionable.
He realized why Beru suggest to kill this woman; there was a desire to protect him from any potential danger, as his responsibility was to accompany and safeguard him on his father's orders, who was far away fighting.
Yet, Suho couldn’t bring himself to do what Beru say, His human sense does not allow that, harm an innocent person who had fainted from shock simply because he suspected she might be connected to Itarim is unacceptable.
He was resolved to grow stronger so he could reunite with his parents, but he also didn’t want to resort to senseless violence against those who were uninvolved.
"No Beru, I won't kill her just because your suspicions. We have to bring her to the hospital to check her condition. Even though he doesn't have any wounds, it's possible the wounds are internal."
He picked her up again in princess style and ignored Beru's protests until he circled around Suho.
Even if she was really part of the itarim, he should at least save this woman's life for interrogation.
Tumblr media
It seemed to validate Beru's concerns. The woman's identity remained unverified.
She lacked any personal identification in Korea's advanced system, and there were no missing person reports that matched her description from the internet.
This left Suho feeling overwhelmed; he even reached out to his uncle Yoo Jinho for assistance in allowing the woman to receive treatment without needing to establish her identity.
The risk was significant if it became known that the woman had no identity here. Suho and her could face arrest and deportation without any warning. Indeed, if someone have a connection with powerful people, it can make things easier for the shady things too.
Now, all Suho and Beru could do was wait for the woman to wake up to answer their questions whether she like it or not.
The doctor said that she's fine, but he have to analyze more deeply once she wakes up to see any illness that only appear once she awakes.
Suho was restless, tapping his feet in a display of impatience, while Beru shot disapproving glances at the woman. He was uneasy about leaving potential threats unaddressed, but the young master had made his choice, and all he could do was comply.
As time passed, Suho's anxiety grew when the woman remained unresponsive, despite the doctor assuring them she was fine.
Could he really leave her alone in the hospital? Should he head home and just hope she wouldn’t wake up before he returned?
Perhaps fate was on his side, nudging her back from the depths of unconsciousness.
Both Suho and Beru noticed the woman stirring when her finger twitched, prompting them to ring for the doctor.
The doctor arrived promptly, conducting a thorough examination that included checking her eyes, asking questions, and performing responsiveness tests—leaving Suho and Beru puzzled by the process.
After completing the tests, the doctor approached Suho with a concerned look. "Mr. Suho, we believe the woman you brought in may be suffering from amnesia. She seems unable to recall any events from her life." Suho felt a jolt of shock at the doctor's revelation.
Amnesia?! A mysterious condition that could conveniently obscure someone's past identity. He never imagined he would find himself in such a predicament.
The doctor departed after advising Suho not to pressure the woman into remembering anything and to allow her to remain calm. Suho merely nodded, his attention fixed on the woman, who appeared lost in thought, nobody knows what in her mind.
"Do you even know your name atleast?" Suho's voice emerged slowly, momentarily shattering the silence. The woman, who had been lost in thought, finally turned her gaze toward him for the first time.
Her eyes, filled with confusion, reflected her struggle to process the question Suho had just posed, though she remained silent.
Impatiently, Suho drummed his fingers, eager for a response, but ultimately, she shook her head, signaling her lack of knowledge.
Watching her confused expression and the way she shook her head left Suho feeling uneasy and drained. He took a deep breath, knowing that the challenges ahead would be tough.
Yet, he couldn't bring himself to leave this woman, whose identity remained a mystery. The chance that she could be an adversary loomed large. It was up to Suho to keep a watchful eye on her.
"Do you want me to pick a temporary name for you, or would you like to choose one yourself until you can recall something from your past?"
He didn't want to call her this woman all the time, at least if this woman remembered her name, it would make his life a little easier.
Instead of answering, the woman just stared at me, looking puzzled as if she thought I was joking. "Don't you recognize me? Aren't you the one who brought me here?"
"I only brought you here because I found you unconscious. I don’t know you at all."
"Then why not choose a name for me? I'm not sure if the name I come up with will suit me."
"You may have lost your memory, but you still remember that you might not pick a good name?"
"It's just a gut feeling…" The woman turned her gaze away, embarrassed by her struggle to think of a suitable name for herself.
Suho pondered over a fitting name for her. She was a woman with an unknown age and identity, and he didn’t know her well enough to determine if she was part of itarim or not.
However, as an art student, Suho understood that a name plays a significant role in shaping a person's identity, so he took the time to think of a beautiful and appropriate name for her.
"...Name, do you like that name?"
She looks surprised with that name. Her eyes widened and her breath caught, as if I had struck a chord. I noticed the person flinch, scratching at the smooth skin marred by a wound. A nervous sound escaped her lips, leaving me uncertain if I had truly guessed her name.
"I like it. Name, huh?" Those were her first words since waking, her voice raspy from sleep. Perhaps that was why she had been silent at first. I offered her some water and reassured her that I would look after her.
Tumblr media
"Suho, help me!" A cry that has echoed in my mind countless times since I chose to care for someone who lost her memory.
Whenever I see her in distress, she ends up shattering something I just cleaned. Perhaps she meant to lend a hand, but it always results in an accident.
This same person, whom I decided to look after, has indeed brought chaos into my life, just as I had anticipated.
I can't tell if she was always this way before her memory loss, but it seems she is quite careless. I have no idea what her life was like before we crossed paths.
When I first welcomed her into my home, her actions turned my home upside down, testing my patience to the limit. It's hard to believe that someone so beautiful struggles to take care of herself.
Honestly, I've grown accustomed to tidying up my own space because the harsh teaching from my parents, unlike my friends, who can be just as messy as she is, but of course less careless as her antics. So when i see her mess, i became more sensitive to it.
I could only tell her to leave the rest to me, and she ran away quickly avoiding my babbling which I was already tired of doing. It's faster if I do it without talking.
I've actually reached the stage where I doubt that she's part of Itarim because she's so careless and she doesn't show any suspicious signs. Maybe she only the ordinary people who was caught in a certain situation that caused her to fall from the sky.
I want to believe from my bottom heart that she's not the worst, that I should fight with. I only hoping that Name is a good person so that we can have good relationship and maybe become closer…
Because even when I mad at her antics to destroy my home, she still accompany me like now, she think she hide herself but i can still see her, peeping with guilty face. I don't feel lonely in this wide home again when my parents being missing and leaving me alone.
Even Beru can't understand this lonely. Because he'll left me once my father call him, to nowhere I don't know.
"Name, do you want to go outside?"
Nama's expression, which had been filled with guilt, instantly transformed into one of joy. Her eyes widened in surprise as he realized I was speaking to him.
"Can I go outside?" she asked, moving closer to me, his excitement palpable after being cooped up for so long since his hospital release.
I nodded; Nama wasn’t a prisoner who needed to be confined all the time. She just had to be cautious about not being discovered without an identity in this world.
"Come with me. I'll take you for a stroll," I said, and his face lit up with a smile.
"That sounds perfect! You have to take me somewhere nice, Suho," she exclaimed joyfully before heading to his room to change into the clothes I had ordered for her online.
Soon, we made our way to the mall and eventually strolled through a park that wasn’t too crowded. Seeing several small children playing together and adults also walking around like us created an indescribably peaceful scene.
I’m really eager to paint this scene, but sadly, I forgot to bring my supplies.
"This is for you," the name rings a bell. I glanced at Nama, puzzled, until I noticed what she was offering.
A drawing book and a pencil. Where did she bring those?
"Suho wanted to draw it, right? Your hands always seem to move when you want to create something. Plus, you’re always painting, so I thought you might need this," she explained to me and i take it.
"But you didn’t bring any paint?" My question made Nama hesitate as she rummaged through her bag, which I assumed held my drawing book earlier.
With a hint of sadness, she looked at me and asked, "Do you need some? You usually just use a pencil, don’t you?"
Seeing her worried expression made me laugh; she really thought I was in trouble. "Just kidding! A pencil is all I need." I waved my pencil dramatically before focusing on capturing the scene.
My pencil danced across the page, creating a sketch until I finally completed it.
"Is it not done yet?" Nama asked, eyeing the unfinished sketch.
"I’ve just made a rough draft; I’ll polish it up at home. If I finish it here, I might not get it done tonight…"
As we walked home, I still had my doubts about Nama’s true identity. I want to believe that her name isn’t tied to Itarim and that I can genuinely like her, but that’s depends in the future that will happen.
For now, i will try to enjoy this company...

planting chaos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: Stanford Pines / Reader (+Infatuated Bill Cipher)
synopsis: Bill cypher and Ford are buddies, right? And what kind of buddy wouldn’t enter inside their pals mind and kind, of maybe, well… fall in love with their special buddies significant other!? Ha!
warnings: none!
a/n: This was a request, thank you anonymous!
Chapter One: Oh Great Eye o’ Mine!
Gravity Falls was eerily quiet, save for the rustling of leaves and the distant sound of water flowing in the stream. In the shadows, a figure stood out—an odd triangular shape with a single eye, casually perched on a branch. Bill Cipher had found himself unusually fascinated with the mind of one Stanford Pines, the brilliant but guarded scientist. As he dug deeper into Ford’s psyche, he stumbled upon a hidden gem—a thought, a feeling, a name: you.
He had seen you around the Pines’ household, quiet and often retreating into the safety of your own thoughts. You were the type to fade into the background, unnoticed yet undeniably present. Bill couldn't resist the thrill of a challenge. With a grin, he dove into Ford's mind, the connection growing stronger as he navigated through memories and emotions.
—————————————
Your first real encounter with Bill came on a chilly evening. You were sitting alone on the porch, reading a book, when the air shimmered and twisted. Suddenly, Bill appeared before you, his form vibrant and unsettling.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" he said, tilting his head with a mischievous smile. "A shy little butterfly trapped in a web of words. How quaint!"
You jumped, nearly dropping your book. “What do you want?” Your voice was barely a whisper, laced with fear.
“Want? Oh, darling, I just wanted to meet the intriguing mind that’s been wandering around Ford’s thoughts!” His tone was playful, but there was an edge of something deeper—curiosity.
Days turned into weeks, and Bill began visiting you more often. At first, he was a chaotic force in your life, bringing an unpredictable energy that both frightened and fascinated you. He would often joke about your timid nature, but there was a softness in his gaze when he looked at you.
“Why do you hide in the shadows?” he asked one evening, floating beside you as you sat on the porch. “You’ve got such potential! So much to offer!”
You sighed, feeling exposed under his intense gaze. “It’s just… easier to blend in. No stresses, no expectations. People don’t see me and that’s okay.”
“But I see you,” he insisted, a genuine sincerity lacing his playful demeanor. “And I like what I see. You’ve got real spark, Kiddo!” He twirled a shadowed hand before continuing.
“So much untapped talent waiting to be broken into!”
You couldn’t help but blush at his words, a mixture of flattery and confusion swirling within you. As the days passed, you found yourself looking forward to his visits, despite the chaos he embodied.
——————————————————
As Bill became a constant presence in your life, you opened up to him in ways you hadn’t anticipated. You shared your dreams, your fears, and even your thoughts on Ford’s experiments. Bill, in return, revealed fragments of his own existence—his chaotic nature, his longing for connection, and, surprisingly, his loneliness.
“Even a demon needs a friend,” he said one night, his tone shifting from teasing to sincere. “And you, my dear, are the most fascinating being I’ve encountered.”
You could feel your heart race. “I’m just… me. Why would you want to be friends with someone like me?”
“Because you’re different. You see the world through a lens that’s uniquely your own. That’s rare and delightful,” he replied, floating closer, his eyes glinting with mischief yet softened by warmth.
As your connection deepened, Ford’s paranoia began to grow. He sensed something amiss with Bill’s presence around you and his mind. Late one night, Ford confronted Bill, accusing him of manipulating you.
“Stay away from her, Bill! She doesn’t understand the danger you pose!” Ford’s voice was sharp, filled with protective anger.
Bill simply laughed, unfazed. “Oh, Ford, you worry too much! She’s not just a pawn in my game. She’s special.” His eyes flickered toward you, who stood off to the side, uncertain.
Feeling cornered, Ford’s protective instincts kicked in, and he attempted to sever the connection Bill had forged with you. “You need to leave. Now.”
The tension reached a breaking point. Ford attempted to trap Bill, hoping to contain him once and for all. But in the chaos, Bill turned on Ford with a predatory grin.
“Did you really think you could control me?” he taunted, the air crackling with his energy. “You’re the one who’s been playing with fire!”
You watched in horror as Ford’s plan unraveled, but in the midst of the chaos, Bill’s gaze met yours. There was an intensity there, a desperation that tugged at your heart.
“Join me, won’t you?” he said, a wild glint in his eye. “Let’s make our own destiny! You could be my right-hand gal, and we’d be unstoppable!”
The words echoed in your mind as the battle raged on. Part of you was terrified by the implications, yet another part—one that had slowly grown fond of the chaos Bill represented—was intrigued.
“Bill, wait!” you shouted, stepping forward. “This isn’t what I wanted! You can’t just hurt him!”
Bill’s expression softened slightly, the chaos around him fading for a moment. “I don’t want to hurt you, my dear. I want to show you a world beyond the ordinary—a place where you can truly shine.”
But you were torn. Ford had been a protector, a lover… he had trusted you. “I… I can’t just abandon him,” you murmured, glancing back at Ford.
“Then you’ll always be stuck in the shadows,” Bill replied, frustration mingling with a hint of pleading in his voice. “You could be so much more with me! I can help you break free from your fears.”
In that moment, everything shifted. You took a deep breath, feeling the weight of your decision pressing down on you. “I won’t choose chaos over what’s right. I won’t let fear dictate my life anymore.”
Bill’s expression darkened, frustration boiling over. “You’re making a mistake! You could have everything!” His voice was laced with desperation, but you stood firm.
“I don’t want everything if it means hurting someone I care about,” you said, your heart pounding. “You may think chaos is freedom, but it’s not worth losing my humanity over.”
With that, you turned away from Bill, stepping closer to Ford. The atmosphere shifted, and you could sense the tension between the two powerful beings. Bill’s laughter echoed, but there was an edge of sorrow in it.
——-—————
The battle reached a climax, and Ford managed to contain Bill, pushing him back into the dimensional rift he had come from. As the rift closed, you felt a pang of regret. You had chosen loyalty over chaos, but the glimpse of what could have been lingered in your heart.
In the days that followed, you struggled with the aftermath. Ford recognized the toll it had taken on you. “You did well, standing up for what you believed in,” he said, his voice softened by understanding. “But it’s okay to feel conflicted about Bill.”
“I just wish he could have seen things differently,” you replied, looking up at the stars that twinkled above. “There was something in him that… wanted connection.”
Ford nodded, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. “He’s a complex being. But you chose wisely, and that’s what matters, sweetheart.
Though Bill was gone, you felt a lingering sense of connection, an echo of his chaotic spirit within you. You resolved to embrace your own uniqueness, finding strength in your individuality.
Days turned into weeks, and as the summer began to wane, you found a new purpose. Ford encouraged you to explore your own talents, and you began to step out of the shadows, slowly finding your voice.
But at night, as you lay in bed, you couldn’t shake the feeling that Bill was still watching. Perhaps he would always be a part of your story, a reminder of the chaos you had chosen to resist.
And somewhere in the depths of the multiverse, Bill Cipher smirked, knowing that even in defeat, he had planted a seed of chaos in your heart—one that would never truly fade away.

ford gets anonymous gifts in college.
he doesn’t know who they’re from, and he’s not quite sure what to do with them — they’re always what he needs or wants, as… concerning as that is. he first thought it might be fidds, actually, but that evidently wasn’t the case. he doubts he’s being stalked — why would anyone stalk him? he chalks it up to coincidence, or perhaps just excellent analysis from a fellow genius stuck at bmu — could you imagine? fidds makes some jokes about it. all is well.
he. gets a bit more concerned when they continue when he moves to gravity falls.
they’re from the same person, he can tell — but… why do they know he’s there. that can’t just be a councidence, or mere analysis. there’s no way they’d know where he moved to. he thinks it’s something paranormal, perhaps, but it becomes clear that it isn’t.
a part of ford is scared, another part is… weirdly happy. all the gifts are things he likes. his admirer (he doesn’t like using “stalker”, whoever this is is far too nice to be one) doesn’t try anything violent — hell, he doesn’t even steal anything. at some point, ford mentions wanting to give something back — his admirer’s next gift comes with a letter, saying he doesn’t have to, but if he wants to, to drop it off at a given address. ford waits after dropping it off, tries to figure out who it is, but it doesn’t work — clearly, his admirer wants to stay hidden… for some reason. his admirer explains in another letter that ford would hate him. ford doesn’t understand why his admirer would think that.
fidds continues poking fun at him, btw. “only you could be woo’d by some creepy, state-crossin’ stalker.”

I would be absolutely obssessed with seeing art, fic, or headcanons by you about The Reader. I don't know if that's in your wheelhouse but it sounds FUN
Anonymous asked: (The Reader of TBoB)
Now, there's an interesting thought exercise.
We're starting with the assumption that The Reader of TBOB is an independent unseen & unnamed character, not just you-the-reader. We're assuming this because (like I mentioned in the post that originally preceded this ask when I received it two months ago) The Reader does several specific things and has several specific actions that might not generalize to every reader.
In fact, I'll go a step farther: we know that TBOB is supposed to be able to update live as the reader reads it (for example: Bill interrupting the page on his weaknesses to Gatsby us; Bill asking for blood and reacting to receiving blood all on the same page, implying that his reaction must have only appeared on the page after getting blood). And so, I headcanon that the book we read is how TBOB looks after The Reader is done with it—after the Theraprism staff has inserted their note and confiscated the book from Bill, thus preventing him from making any more updates to it, permanently fixing it in the form it was last in when Bill had his hands on it. We're not reading Bill talking to "us"—we're reading his half of a conversation he was having with someone who held the book before "us."
So what do we know about this hypothetical reader?
- They know about the main characters of Gravity Falls. Bill doesn't have to explain who Ford, Stan, Dipper, Mabel etc are. He just dives into talking about them like he assumes the reader knows exactly who they are and he's confident that learning their dirty laundry will be appealing. On the other hand, he DOES stop to tell them about who other people are: the Henchmaniacs, Time Baby, the Shaman, the Anti-Cipherites; so he doesn't just take it for granted that they'll know anyone he's talking about. He has some reason to think they know about the residents of Gravity Falls, specifically. (This is noteworthy if we're assuming the reader ISN'T from our world and thus DIDN'T watch the cartoon.)
- They haven't met Bill before—he says at the start of the book that this is their first meeting. But, they do know who Bill is in general—also at the start of the book, he says he's sure the reader is thinking about how he's all-powerful, allegedly dead, and also imaginary. A reader unfamiliar with Bill could've gotten "allegedly dead" from Ford's note, but not the rest.
- They're either from a reality where Bill is imaginary—such as the Real World™—or from a reality where Bill is believed to be imaginary—such as, say, the regular canon Gravity Falls world. The reader could be somebody who read some old Ciphertology pamphlets and went "what a goofy made-up god," got their hands on an old Elias Inkwell Cipher Symphonies cartoon, heard about the medieval English "bastard triangle" superstitions, knows about the "summon a cryptid triangle with spaghetti" urban legend... etc. There's lots of ways a reader could believe Bill to be "imaginary" while not being from our real world.
- In spite of knowing who the Pines family is, reading Ford's warning about the book, and soon seeing that Bill's clearly real, they're willing to, in rapid succession: 1. become the book's new master and summon Bill (at this point they MIGHT still believe the book's a hoax), 2. agree to take Bill's deal, a favor in exchange for knowledge & secrets (at this point the book's animating itself in their hands so they know this is The Real Bill), and 3. give the book their blood. From that point onward, Bill starts rearranging the reader's brain, so we can't assume that their actions are exactly the same as they would have been at the start of the book—but up to that point, their actions are all their own, and they're game to make a deal with Bill and give him their blood.
- At the end of the book, when The Reader's mildly delirious from blood loss and Bill has removed their shame, fear, hesitance, and kicked up their impulsivity—even then, reading the letters from the Pines family is enough to convince them not to follow through with helping Bill take over the world. So when they're as clear-headed as possible they'd knowingly make a deal with Bill, but also when they're at their most emotionally compromised the Pines' words can still talk them down from attempting Weirdmageddon.
- We can pick up a few personal details on them from what Bill says about them (they crave love, sugar, and salt; they want to know about Bill's weaknesses; they're VERY convinced that Bill must be lying about never being in love; they've had at least one perverted thought in their life; etc), but since the authorial intent is that the things Bill says about The Reader can apply to as many IRL readers as possible, these are still deliberately pretty broad & generic even if they can't apply to 100% of readers.
- Because the questions about Bill's love life are framed like things the reader is saying and Bill is clearly frustrated with these questions, I think it'd be reasonable to theorize that some of the other headings in the book that are framed like rhetorical questions are actually being asked by The Reader. (ex: "Bill, if you died, then where are you now?" "How does it feel to be half alive?") So from our perspective Bill's the only one steering this ship and just assuming what we-the-readers want to know about, but in The True Reader's hands, they may have played a significant part in choosing the topics and flat out asked Bill about things they wanted to know about.
- They seem to be familiar enough with Ford's journals that Bill thinks offering them a handful of lost pages will be the just the thing to fully win them over (or else keep them distracted enough for Bill to finish rewiring their brain lol)...
and this is where I think we can make a good guess about where The Reader comes from.
When Journal 3 was about to come out, OregonParksDept on twitter popped up to roleplay as a park ranger named Gus who finds Journal 3 in the dirt, asks if anyone knows whose it is, says he's gonna ask some other rangers to look at it, and then locks it up stating that everyone who read the book either got headaches or nightmares. J3 is later sold to the public at a bake sale. Since at the end of Journal 3, Ford says he's tossing his journals into the Bottomless Pit, we can assume J3 must have landed in Gus's dimension.
And then, when TBOB's going to come out, Gus discovers it (probably fell through the same rift as J3), tries to burn it up, and then mysteriously disappears; some other ranger uses the Oregon Parks Dept twitter to ask the public for info on his disappearance, and Bill's hotline and TINAWD suggest Bill set Gus on fire.
But, the twitter account still has Gus's earlier liveblog of trying to destroy the book. Meaning whatever ranger updated it next must have seen Gus's saga. They know about TBOB's existence and that it was related to Gus's disappearance; and, as we know thanks to both Gus and Ford, if you destroy or discard TBOB it'll just come right back to you.
So here's my theory:
The Reader is a ranger at the same station as Gus. (Or someone close to the rangers—a volunteer, a spouse, a kid—someone who's in and out of the ranger stations all the time, at any rate. Someone in a position to reach TBOB.) They read J3, which is why they knew about Gravity Falls and the broad strokes of Bill's plot and knew enough about the Pines family to be interested in their lives, and particularly knew enough to be interested in missing journal pages; and why they didn't know about characters like the Henchmaniacs or Anti-Cipherites, which is why Bill had to explain about them.
When Gus opens TBOB properly for the first time, Bill writes a personal letter to him; when The Reader opens it, Bill's letter shows he knows some things about them—but things only related to what they'd currently be thinking about ("Wow it's bill! Is he real? Shouldn't he be dead?"), not biographical details like with Gus. There's an obvious Doylist reason for that, but my Watsonian explanation is that Bill got a chance to spy on Gus, likely through J3, but didn't get that opportunity with The Reader so he's having to skim their surface-level thoughts and do a cold read on them. Maybe The Reader read J3 way later than the other rangers.
It's possible The Reader bought J3 at the Oregon Parks Dept sale and read it, then became a ranger because they read it and wanted to be somewhere they could find out more.
Since Gus seems totally baffled by TBOB and doesn't connect it with J3, Gus probably didn't read J3 very closely; most of the other rangers probably didn't either; so The Reader is likely the only one who powered through the headaches and/or nightmares to read the whole thing and learn its secrets. So whoever they are, they're cut from the same cloth as Ford & Dipper (which lines up with the fact that Bill doesn't try to tempt them into a deal with money, love, fame, power, etc., but rather with knowledge and secrets).
Thus, when TBOB inevitably teleports back into the ranger station, The Reader is the only one at the ranger station who knows what they're looking at. They recognize the logo of the triangle with a top hat; they know who Bill is; they recognize the handwriting in the letter at the front warning readers away from the book. Journal 3 is a diary describing things that never happened in a town that doesn't exist, when The Reader read it they probably told themself it had to be fake... right? right??
And that's why, when they open TBOB, they're sure Bill must be imaginary—but very ready to be persuaded that he's real.
Of course, the book had to be blank when they opened it. They probably made a deal with the book (and even offered it their blood) telling themself they were just doing this to try to find out what happened to Gus, that would sure be a good excuse to justify making contact with a megalomaniacal god... but, once Bill starts talking to them, he doesn't mention Gus once. So it seems The Reader was pretty quick to push their dead coworker out of their mind in favor of pumping Bill Cipher for the secrets of the universe.
And that, I think, is the measure by which we should judge the Reader's character: they're basically Ford if Ford was actually a callous, heartless prick. They also summoned up Bill for knowledge and wisdom, but they already knew he's tried to conquer the universe, they knew he's killed people—including someone they know and work with—and it's not on their mind at all as they interact with him. All they're interested in is Bill, what he knows, and where Journal 3 is from. Is it any wonder Bill's so quick to conclude they're the perfect new minion?
And yet, they're not so far gone that they can't be talked down by the Pines family's letters. Which is unexpected, given what we do know about The Reader.
Maybe they're cold and callous and disconnected from their fellow man, but subconsciously crave the kind of family bonds the Pines family has and realize that that's what they really longed for in J3, not the mysteries and secrets. (Bill does say they crave love more than anything else.) Maybe they had a budding parasocial obsession with Bill, and reading the lost journal pages and seeing how devastated Bill was to lose Ford broke through their fantasies and made them realize they're never gonna be Bill's special little human the way Ford was—just in time to hit the letters where Ford talks about what a loser Bill really is and how much happier he is to be rid of him. Maybe it was just Stan pointing out "if Bill's afterlife is so great, why won't he admit where he is?" that gave them second thoughts.
So they may be a callous, heartless prick, but they're not totally gone. There's a bit of humanity in them yet.
What they do with TBOB after that, we don't know, because that's the point at which the Theraprism catches Bill and he loses the ability to update the book, thus locking it into the form in which we read it.
- One bonus point: in the deluxe version of the book, Bill directs a specific note to "Chris" who thinks they live in Minnesota and who's been in a coma for 12 years—which is weird, if we're going by the theory that Bill's personalizing the entire book to speak to one specific person. So my headcanon is The Reader is named Chris (or "Chris" is short for their full name, at least—Christine, Christopher, Antichrist, whatever), they grew up in Minnesota, they have nightmares about being stuck back home where they grew up, and they read a good portion of TBOB in a sleep-deprived blood-loss-induced delirium and keep ducking into a half-dream where they're having the "I'm back in Minnesota" nightmare, and Bill's gotta snap them out of it and get them to focus on his book again. (Minnesota is real and they haven't been in a coma for 12 years, that was Bill indulging in a little recreational gaslighting.)
