absolutely despicable behavior from WB to plunder a fan film from 15 years ago just because their corporate greed led them to want to make their own (likely soulless even with PJ’s involvement) version with the exact same title.
Tumblr media
UPDATE: the copyright has been released and the fan film The Hunt for Gollum is back on YouTube and can be watched. Though, it's still really telling of the capitalist corruption of WB and Hollywood that their first move and publicity for this (unnecessary) movie was to directly attack the fans for something produced over a decade ago.

Remember when a movie series had completed it’s storylines, there was no more movies about that series and companies just make up new stories to make movies? Now companies want to milk the same products for all their worth. It includes awful products like Harry Potter. We’re in hell and it’s all the mcu’s fault.
Edit: Ok, this isn’t the mcu’s fault this is happening. Companies just want to milk their existing ip and not waste any time or money thinking of a new one.

Warner Bros: Batgirl was a complete mess. No amount of money would have made it good.

I know before Rings of Power, Amazon had a young Aragorn series in the works; now I’m wondering if the script was sold to Warner Bros who revised it into films and then asked PJ to come direct but
A) why is it multiple “films”. I am not enthusiastic about the idea of Peter Jackson trying to stretch the hunt for gollum (??????) to MULTIPLE films. If anything this feels like it one of the times something needs to be a limited series or something. Also what even are they gonna do for a real plot?
B) why the fuck is Peter Jackson willing to come back to Warner Bros after how much he hated and regretted working on the Hobbit with them?
C) what the fuck. They really are out of ideas with the rights the Tolkien estate sold to them, huh?

Barbie (2023) is like Riverdale: Aesthetically very pleasing, but a total fucking insult to the characters, the brand, and the true fans.
And the stans are just as stupid, boosting about OOC garbage! "Barbie is much happier with Glo*a than with Ken UWU" That's because she's been written out of character, Sierra, you haven't won valid brownie points here! 🙄

Warner Bros actually made Rocksteady make the Suicide Squad game. Rocksteady wanted to do a Batman Beyond spinoff but WB still thinks the Suicide Squad is incredible popular and forced them to do it. They also wanted the Justice League dead for no fucking reason.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!!??!!!

So you know that thing Netflix and others have done/are doing with scrapping finished projects for tax write offs? Yeah, I hate that too.
But I'm not sure if we should be focused on eliminating the tax loophole (which I suspect might be hard to precisely close, cause taxes are like that) or on not letting them erase the projects from existence when they do it? In the latter case, where do folks think the film/rights should go?
*Don't know how projects are financed these days, or how it would work, sorry.
**Again, not a fully worked out idea, would probably make the film a LLC or similar.
***If the studio originally bought the project off someone else, obviously right of first refusal to them.

I’ll probably get yelled at for this (even though these are simply facts), but oh well. 🤷🏽‍♀️
I’ve realized that Warner Bros. productions can’t keep a purely evil (or just purely mean, in Cheryl’s case) woman purely evil (or purely mean) to save their lives!
First Harley Quinn (which is a DC problem in general now), then Cheryl Blossom, and now Alicent Hightower. No, now they must become a Poor Sad Baby™, usually a Victim of Evil Men™.
Is this supposed to be empowering? Because it’s just pathetic and completely warps the characters, often making other characters look bad in the process. (The Joker and Otto were always bad, obviously. But Clifford & Penelope? 🤨 Viserys? 🤨 Fuck that bullshit!)

It’s so gross how studios are holding on to the ai thing in the sag terms. These are the same companies that will go after people for making fan content of their movies but they want to use the faces of dead actors without consent in their movies using ai? I hope this strike goes on for two years and loses the companies a lot of money because that ai shit is unforgivable.
Edit: with the strike ending now, I’m glad that the sag got the proper protection from ai thing.

I honestly think Doctor Who should be cancelled at this point.
Because if you’re not going to bother fixing any of the actual problems with the show and you’re just going to keep going back to the same faces and ideas over and over again instead of branching out and finding new talent with a new creative direction and artistic vision, then why are we even fucking bothering at this point? The viewership is tanking, any goodwill has been completely eroded, and nobody gives a shit anymore.
There’s just something so sad and pathetic watching RTD at San Diego Comic Con glomming onto Star Trek like a fucking parasite in a desperate attempt to prove to himself and the audience that his Doctor Who ‘relaunch’ wasn’t the total train wreck it actually was. And I notice that’s something of a recurring theme throughout SDCC this year. Kevin Feige and the Russos announcing RDJ as Doctor Doom. James Gunn promoting his new DC Universe in the manner of a bored executive at a shareholder’s meeting. Alex Kurtzman being… Alex Kurtzman. It’s the endpoint of corporatised nerd culture. Middle aged businessmen who are completely out of touch with modern audiences, desperately trying to stay relevant in a cultural zeitgeist that’s rapidly passing them by. They want to make good movies and TV shows, but they can’t because they’re fundamentally untalented people who care more about making money than about making art. It’s not about entertainment, but rather about “engagement.” RTD himself said the quiet part out loud in an interview on Doctor Who Unleashed. It’s no longer about telling stories, but about “generating content.”

The original Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse was Barbie satire that was actually good and wasn't hateful or humiliating to the characters or the fans.
