If you take anything at all away from this post, I want to to be that you should absolutely Not headcanon Jonah Magnus as Jewish, like ever, please for the love of god do not.

This a work of satire, inspired by a conversation, inspired by a fic that sucked. It is parodying the headcanons around Jonah Magnus — a canonical abusive, white supremacist, capitalist — by comparing him to Thomas Jefferson, who was a real life person, and was a thousand times more fucked up by virtue of being from real life, and causing harm to real people. It��s a joke, but a joke with meaning behind it, urging people to read into the themes of a show before making headcanons that are actually super bigoted.

So I tried looking into this but all I could really find on the subject was a tumblr post from a few years back detailing how the court of owls plays into anti semitic troupes which I was kinda already aware of considering all secret organisations unfortunately play into that troupe thanks in large part to nazi propaganda the same way alot of conspiracy theories are also anti semitic due to how they've been used by nazis and white supremacists

And court of owls does play into the troupe - a group of rich elites that control Gotham from the shadows, that activity try to keep Gotham as shite as possible for their own profit and that steal children - but these are also just common troupes when it comes to secret organisations so it raises a good question of if people can ever use a secret shadow organisation without it being anti semitic? As a non Jewish person I really don't feel comfortable commenting but if you are Jewish and have some opinions on the topic would love to hear them

I try really hard to stay out of arguments online (real ones, I mean - silly fun arguments like cake vs pie I'm totally up for). There are too many people who get some sort of high off of contention.

But right now I am seriously disgusted. Someone was spouting the "free Palestine" slogan because they say Ashkenazi Jews are not indigenous to the Middle East, because they're white. So I looked it up. As of this posting, Wikipedia cites genetic studies that show that Ashkenazi Jews have a mixture of European and Levantine genes. Having the former ancestry does not negate the latter.

When are people going to wake up and realize that what some are so loudly protesting for is worse than what they claim to be against? Hamas is a corrupt organization that doesn't care any more for the lives of their own people than it does for the lives of Jews. And the only way "Palestine" will be "free" requires the abolishment of the state of Israel. And that requires actual genocide, because the Jewish people have precisely one land where they can defend themselves, where they don't have to worry about expulsion based on their religion and ancestry, and they will not let it go willingly. And they shouldn't. Archaeology shows that they have been there for millennia, longer than Arabs, and history records the same.

The country isn't perfect. None is. But attacking the terrorists that run Gaza right now is not genocide; it's defending against those who call for it. If Israel wanted to wipe Gaza off the map, they could; they've got the weapons technology to do so. But they're fighting this war the hard way, and losing more citizens to it. And that, by the way, includes Israeli Arabs.

I have never clarified what my gender identity is beyond "they/them" because I didn't believe my identity mattered beyond, only the content of my words. But if this needs clarification I will provide it so no one misunderstands me. I am not a trans woman. I believe this discourse shouldn't have to be done by trans women exclusively. Why must someone who opposes bigots be marginalized? Why must the marginalized fight the bigotry in their own oppression? Why can't I, a gnc cis passing queer woman be absolutely appalled and moved with rage at how awful these cosplay conservatives tarnish the very lavel activism with their existence?

It's not fucking fair how little people get in the world to help, and they get even less the more layers of intersectionality we get. And the lower you get the less society cares about you. The only thing you can turn to is fucking activism when you get so oppressed everyone has a fucking reason to hate you. So you join feminist circles to gain community, and a twisted fucking surprise, even the people who claim to care about gender liberation "feminists" dont care.

I'm allowed to find the struggles of others maddening, in the same way I would hope good white allies to find racism maddening or men to find sexism infuriating. If you're a good ally you should be MAD that someone of your same intersectionality can't just fucking treat people right.

It shouldn't be on trans women to take the brunt of this, or insist everyone ignores them. They don't ignore trans women! They go to safe spaces for women and harasses them, disseminates their photos, their information, and relentlessly bully them! Respectfully, I do not see how I am guilty for the anger I feel for the complete blatant acts of human depravity it is to bully a group of women who have a scary high suicide rate. By not talking about it and just expecting people to fight this issue with silence, I believe that we don't provide adequate community.

It is not just enough to be not a transmisogynist, you have to be anti-transmisogynists. I should not have to put my life in danger by standing up for black people in a room of trump supporters. But a white person should use what privilege they have to stand up for what's right. If I expect allies to do that for me, I need to do that for groups I'm allied with.

so the shitty anti-semitic coworker has her last day is tomorrow (she’s leaving for a new job) but today was her last day in-office

i messaged my boss to tell him i had a migraine and would be leaving early using fmla (both of which were true) and also put it in the Teams channel that the shitty coworker has access to

she almost immediately wheels over to our other coworker and begins whispering so quietly that i couldn’t hear her even if i tried.(she usually talks very loudly to the point i eavesdrop on accident so it’s a red flag she’s probably talking about me.) while i slowly gathered my stuff together to leave, i did overhear her saying that she’s the “eyes and ears” for the managers and that she “sees what they don’t”. again, i’m in a migraine and didn’t really process it.

as i was leaving, i decided to take the high road and to tell her good luck on her new job. she had not looked at me, spoken a word to me or acknowledged my existence in at least week and before that had barely done so for months. but she turned away from our coworker to look at me and smiled big in a way that i thought was especially odd but i was like “huh she acknowledged me, didn’t expect that” and went home with my foggy migraine brain.

i finished the seder about an hour ago (about 9 hours later) and my migraine brain cleared enough to process and realize that the smile was one of the cat that ate the canary.

coupled with her going on multiple rants to coworkers (not to me, just loudly in my earshot) vaguing about how she thinks the managers have been way too lenient in not firing people and that she’d do so if she perceives any slights or “disrespect”? i’d bet money she’s going to try to get me fired and that’s why she looked so pleased.

As this is a portrayal that heavily centers actual history as a background element, and has spoken heavily on historical matters and attitudes, I feel the need to weigh in on some "discussion" currently happening regarding the matter of historical accuracy.

I also want to note that I have been very loud and vocal about calling out casual racism toward PoC by the greater Bleach fandom in diminishing Yoruichi and Kaname.

And you know what? If the shoe was on the other foot, if someone was playing a Nazi character but chose to completely ignore the historical factuality of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust, you would probably be saying the exact opposite thing you are now. You would be decrying them for erasing the horrors of the Nazis and white-washing their political agenda to make them more palatable as people.

History isn't something to be presented accurately only when it matches what you think is good and right. History is ugly and complicated and messy. anya's has in every verse been jewish , romanian , and russian. for the most part , the face claims for her and her family are at least jewish ( i tried some out but they never really stuck like mary did ) her mother natalia , is russian/jewish , and her dad's family are romanian jewish. she was raised the jewish faith , and was surrounded by it for most of her life. her family has had some problems along the way given various things that went down in new york historically , and was one of the contributing factors to both the family for the most part relocating to the west coast , and her grandfather's eventual retirement from law enforcement. ( though he helps her brother out from time to time on cases he's working on. )
