Random Things I’ve Done as MDZS Characters:
Lan Wangji: Almost started a fight because a random student mistook my silence for insult, gratefully saved by a classmate that knew I wasn’t a good talker. Later that day, she said I had a really mean expression on my face and it might’ve been the reason why the person got pissed.
Wei Wuxian: Thought I woke up late, forgot my I.D, my transportation fare, and left the house with missed-matched socks. It turns out I indeed, was not late—in fact, literally earlier than half my classmates.
Lan Sizhui: Repeatedly apologized for an accident I didn’t start, and even though I was the one who got hit. (It really hurt)
Lan Jingyi: Confidently telling my group mate the answer to our quiz’s question that was actually very very wrong. (It was so embarrassing)
Jin Ling: Got upset that no one listened to my advise on how to treat a nosebleed, accidentally punched the person who had the nosebleed and they still didn’t listen to my advise.
Ouyang Zizhen: Got caught writing fan fiction during my AP tests and had to listen to my teacher read out the shit I wrote. Safe to say that after I graduated I made sure to never show my face to that teacher again.
Wen Ning: Was given the wrong order in a milk tea shop and instead if telling the barista, I left the milk tea on a table and left the shop with out anything. Ended up wasting money.
Wen Qing: I went to the hospital thinking I might have skin asthma but was diagnosed with a heart problem. I kept going back for check ups because I was sure they misdiagnosed me, they did misdiagnose me. I had skin asthma.
Mo Xuanyu: Got misgendered the very first day of class, even though I wore a skirt. (Unknowingly triggers the genderfluid in me)
Jiang Cheng: Barked back at a dog because it annoyed me.
Nie Huaisang: During the Christmas Exchange Event I got a request that said they wanted a specific brand of wallet. I bought them a wallet. That was different from the brand they wanted. And put candy inside as compensation.
Jin Guangyao: Convinced a teacher I belonged to his class (I was in fact, not from his class) after I accidentally entered during a lecture, was too embarrassed to leave, so I took a seat and answered his questions when he wanted me to.
Lan Xichen: Commuted by myself for the first time and ended up lost, 7 divisions away from home.
Xiao Xingchen: Fell in love with a boy and finding out years later that boy was now in rehabilitation for handling dangerous weapons.
(also) Nie Huaisang: Had an attack before passing out even though I ran no longer than 50 meters.
(also) Wei Wuxian: Stared at a dog for so long that it got jittery and attacked me, my sister cried the whole car drive to the hospital because I was bleeding from my forehead.
(also) Lan Jingyi: Got admitted to the hospital because I hit my head on a sharp rock. Cause of injury: my butt missed the seat of a swing and sent me tumbling backwards.
(also) Lan Sizhui: Didn’t understand the concept of a class donation and gave all my cash because I thought they asked for it. I didn’t eat lunch that day.
__________
After compiling this I just realized that I’m not a very interesting person.

Practical Mythology by metisket
Funnest story ever! I loved this soooo much - didn’t want it to ever end. Thank you for this gem ❤️
Quotes:
“You only hurt bad people,” Lan Wangji informs him with perfect confidence. “They won’t be worried.”
“Ah, Lan Zhan,” the Yiling Patriarch says, ducking his head and smiling, but sounding sad for some reason. “If only everyone had the faith in me that you do.”
Lan Wangji frowns. Everyone should have faith in the Yiling Patriarch. The Yiling Patriarch is always fair, and that means his rules and the Lan rules can’t be that different. “Can I visit you again?”
The Yiling Patriarch beams at him so brightly that Lan Wangji’s breath catches. “Yes! Come visit me, Lan Zhan. But you have to wait until you’re grown, okay? For decency’s sake.” He laughs, and Lan Wangji isn’t sure why.
“When will I be grown?” Lan Wangji wants to be clear.
“Hmm.” The Yiling Patriarch looks skyward, rubbing his nose thoughtfully. “…Twenty? Let’s say twenty. Your uncle shouldn’t have too much of a qi deviation about that. How’s that sound?”
Lan Wangji frowns, but nods anyway. It’s a very long time, but he supposes that’s how all the Yiling Patriarch stories are. You can’t win anything worth having without fighting for it yourself. “I will be here.”
“I look forward to it, Lan Zhan,” the Yiling Patriarch, smiling and tugging gently at Lan Wangji’s hair one last time before sending him away to the other side of the barrier—to his brother and uncle.
————
It takes him a couple of hours, but he eventually finds the perfect victim. Said victim is innocently standing in a garden admiring the flowers, and has no idea what level of little brother nonsense is about to hit him. Poor thing.
“So, Xichen-ge, I hear your brother is planning to run away and marry the Yiling Patriarch,” Nie Huaisang casually declares. He’s always felt more comfortable hassling Lan Xichen than he has Lan Wangji, anyway. “What’s that about?”
Lan Xichen sighs and suddenly looks very tired. “It was cute when he was eight.”
Wow. Just wow. “How did he even meet the Yiling Patriarch when he was eight?”
Oh, that was a bad question, because Lan Xichen’s eyes just iced over like a Gusu winter. Nie Huaisang will just have to pry the details of that ugly story from someone else. “Never mind!” he cries. “It doesn’t matter. At least Senior Wei is nice.”
Lan Xichen frowns at him in confusion. “Senior Wei? Your father’s friend, Senior Wei?”
Oh good. At least Nie Huaisang isn’t the only one who didn’t know. “My father’s friend, Senior Wei, who is the Yiling Patriarch. Yes.”
He’s never seen Lan Xichen gape before. This is a shockingly exciting day in the Cloud Recesses.
T, 17.5k
Summary:
The Yiling Patriarch is a living legend—a terrifying, ancient force of nature, dispensing punishment or reward with implacable, indifferent fairness.
Wei Wuxian, on the other hand, is a weird but oddly charming guy who wanders around the cultivation world making fun of people's art and mooching food from sect leaders.
It really upsets people to find out that they're the same person.

💙 Picture Perfect
by manaika (@manaika-chan)
M, 22k, Wangxian
Summary: There was this little family. Weathered and broken down to its tiniest parts, but so warm and so good. Oh, so, good. After moving across the country for a fresh start, Lan Zhan meets the most wonderful man with a pre-started family in the form of a teenage son with a streak for naughtiness and penchant for caring. Lan Zhan is prepared to do anything to prove himself worthy of dating the boy's father... If he could only figure out what. Kay's comments: As much as we all love stories where A-Yuan is immediately on-board when it comes to getting a new father, sometimes, the opposite is also fun. In this story, we have single father Wei Wuxian, who stars dating Lan Wangji, but unfortunately, Wei Yuan is not very fond of this development. Will Lan Wangji be able to win over Wei Yuan or will his new relationship with Wei Wuxian crumble before it got really started, because for Wei Wuxian, his son always comes first? Mentions of Past Wei Wuxian/Others, so skip that story, if you're not fond of that, though I highly recommend giving it a go anyways, because it's such a great story. Excerpt: That was the problem. Not that his dad was happy. But how very happy he had become in just a few weeks. Meanwhile, Lan-xiansheng gave nothing away. He was quiet and stoic the way dad could never be. Dad was loud and laughed freely, lived his life in the fast lane, always moving, never still. He was much like a hurricane, like thunder and lightning, a desert storm, a blizzard under the northern lights. In turn, Lan-xiansheng was like a mountain, motionless and quiet, always the same. Wei Yuan understood, on an intellectual level, that to someone like that his dad was novel, new and exciting. He worried what would happen when the excitement faded and 'new' turned into 'old'. People who were such polar opposites never stayed together. And if they did, they were never happy. Wei Yuan wanted his dad not only to be happy, but also stay happy. What Wei Yuan decidedly didn't want was his dad to experience another heartbreak.
pov alternating, modern setting, modern no powers, hurt/comfort, emotional hurt/comfort, families of choice, getting together, strangers to lovers, family feels, single parent wei wuxian, lan sizhui is a wei, asexual wei wuxian, past wei wuxian/others, platonic relationships, romance, hurt wei wuxian, hospitals, angst with a happy ending, widower wei wuxian, past character death

MDZS fanfic ideas I have that most likely won't go anywhere and are mainly just titles atp
@fandom-trash-goblin ‼️
Wish You Were Sober (Chengxian but not necessarily outright)
Post Sunshot when Wei Wuxian is going out drinking everyday
Jiang Cheng being pissed about that (rightfully so, Jesus Christ)
They still love each other but it's hard when you're a sect leader and your SiC is dodging his responsibility's and by extension YOU
Jiang Cheng feels
Jiang Fengmian bashing
idk really I just felt like sharing
Modern AU Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling road trip
The end of the Summer holidays
And they have to get from Yunmeng to Lanling but Jin Ling's flight has been cancelled so Jiang Cheng has to drive him there
All types of shenanigans, for example:
Car breaks down
There's a storm so they have to stop for the night in this shifty ass motel
Jin Ling's awful (in Jiang Cheng's opinion) music
Jiang Cheng's awful (in Jin Ling's opinion) music
There isn't really anything dramatic or overly emotional about this
Just a bit of a laugh
Jiang Fengmian bashing (idk how but I will fucking get it in there idc)
Zhao Zhuliu/Wen Zhuliu is actually Jiang Cheng's real father AU (thank the Lord he looks like his mother)
Major Jiang Fengmian bashing obvs <3
pretty ooc except for Wen Zhuliu who doesn't really have a personality to mischaracterise
Wen Zhuliu being a bit #suspicious when Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian pull up for the Wen indoctrination
Just cause. how can anyone Like That be Jiang Fengmian's son??????
Anyways they're in the cave and Wen Zhuliu refuses to fight Jiang Cheng because by then he's worked out that the boy's birthday is like... suspiciously 9 months away from the last time he and Yu Ziyuan were last Together™
And bby is just like nope
not doing that today
Anyways burning of Lotus Pier and it all goes down the same
EXCEPT
Wen Zhuliu doesn't have anything to do with the death of Yu Ziyuan (if anything he's holding them all back)
Instead of taking his core, Wen Zhuliu takes that child out of Lotus Pier and straight to Wen Qing and renounces the Wen name, going back to Zhao Zhuliu (independent King, we love to see it)
Basically pledges pledges allegiance to Jiang Cheng and kinda follows him around like a guard dog for the entirety of Sunshot
OR
Wen Zhuliu doesn't make the connection of Jiang Cheng potentially being his son until he's got his hand in his chest and is melting Jiang Cheng's golden core
In this AU there'll be some weird thing where you have parts of your parents in your core I don't really wanna explain it
"Jiang Cheng’s golden core was strong for a seventeen year old and was filled with unbridled potential that only the son of the Violet Spider could hold or hope to live up to"
"It spills all over his fingers then onto the floor and he lets it, staring transfixed as his son’s livelihood falls through his fingers"
Basically, Wen Zhuliu gives up his core for Jiang Cheng via Wen Qing and surgery instead of Wei Wuxian and everything else plays out the same minus the demonic cultivation
Jiang Cheng still kills Wen Zhuliu however when he searches his robes he finds a letter addressed "Jiang Wanyin"
Edge of Seventeen (Jiang Cheng Sect Leader succession during Sunshot, potentially Zhancheng 👀)
Pretty much just a character study of Jiang Cheng
Set during the 3-6 months that Wei Wuxian was in the burial mounds
Lan Wangji being there when Wei Wuxian wasn't...
Not a fully fledged idea yet
Jiang Fengmian bashing <3

💖💙Run Off The World
By:Sapphire_Roses
Summary:
Thirteen years after the disappearance of the Wen Remnants, twelve years after the official defection of Lan Wangji from the Gusu Lan sect, and ten years after the establishment of the Yiling Wei sect, the Cultivation world seeks the help of a man they have forsaken after the Battle of The Nightless City.
What they expect to find is a land of monsters and ghosts, led by man who is torn apart and worn out by his heretic ways, and the once-esteemed Hanguang-Jun in chains and tears.
What they do find is a thriving sect consisting of living, beaming people, a very smug and very happy Wei Wuxian, and a terribly content and – although as perfectly peerless as ususal – very jaded Lan Wangji.
Chapter:42/?
Words:242,828
Status:ongoing
Author:@rosesapphire2323
In here we have yiling laozu , wei ying in this fanfic he really is badass and intelligent, dramatic, cool ....ect.
We have hanguang-Jun, that's even more badass and he is so dramatic 😂😂
:Jiang Wanyin can bet everything they have in Lotus Pier's treasury that Lan Wangji has gone through the extra fucking Li just to be dramatic"😂
He is very shameless too like this quote
"You fell asleep after the third time." Lan Wangji says brazenly.
He is even more intelligent
(So Lan Wangji wrapped the very sign of a Lan's devotion around Wei Wuxian's arm under his clothes, gambling on– no, manipulating his sentimentality to make him return and take him back, when he's clearly been planning to clear Lan Wangji of all accusations and leave him behind, by giving an awfully long speech and putting up an act.) See?
~~~~
It almost makes Jiang Wanyin jealous. "Why are you so obsessed with Second Young Master Lan anyway?" Jiang Wanyin asked, bored out of his mind, on a sunny afternoon in Cloud Recesses. Wei Wuxian was obviously not working on his lessons. Granted, he didn't need to. But he could at least pretend, for Jiang Wanyin's sake. Instead, he was drawing something, white sleeves tied up so that he wouldn't dirty the pristine robe with black ink after he got in trouble for it last time. "Lan Zhan?" Wei Wuxian asked, like he needed to clarify who they were talking about. As if his 'Lan Zhan' and 'Second Young Master Lan' were two different people. "Who the fuck else?" Jiang Wanyin growled. "I don't get it. The guy obviously hates you." Wei Wuxian hummed. "I don't care if Lan Zhan hates me." What? Wei Wuxian, not caring if people hated him? The boy lived and breathed being well-liked! What made Lan Wangji's obvious distaste so different? Jiang Wanyin raised a brow. "Then why? He's obviously not your friend, so...?" "It's all relatively simple, really." Wei Wuxian stopped drawing, and held the paper up to examine it. Bright sunlight shot through the paper, enough to reveal the markings of the ink. He has drawn a magnolia tree. He put the paper down, smiling softly. "He's like... my equal." Jiang Wanyin paused. Equal. He grit his teeth. All his life, he tried to be Wei Wuxian's equal, running after him with all he had, and then all of a sudden, Lan Wangji barged in with his stoney face and cold words, and became Wei Wuxian's equal.
"That's nonsense." He tried to keep his voice even. "You two are nothing alike."
Wei Wuxian shrugged, picking up his brush again. Adding details to the drawing. "He's just..." He stopped, and tried again. "Sure, he's a stick in the mud and a stickler for rules, but he's good. He matches pace with me. He annoys me and I annoy him back. He frowns at me and it's so fun to see his cold expression break with anger. I love laughing when it pisses him off. He enjoys annoying me, too, I guess. He's extra stiff with me. Makes shattering that mask of his just so much sweeter."
Then, he chuckled. Jiang Wanyin watched with dawning horror as his brother's face grew fond, brush flying across the paper. "You should see him when he gets angry enough to draw his sword, though."
Wei Wuxian looked up, eyes gleaming with a mixture of mischief and joy. "That's when he truly comes alive. It makes me want to fight with him forever."
What delicate choice of words, Jiang Wanyin thinks. 'Fight with him'.
Be it against him or beside him, you want him all the same ~~~~~
We have other characters like Jiang yanli and
Originally characters ,they have amazing personalities
~~
You guys will see Yiling laozu in chapter 37,he is very dangerous,
("Lan Xichen," Wei Wuxian addresses, and the unfamiliarity of it is much more startling than the disrespect it ought to deliver.
"I know you are fully aware of what I am capable of." Wei Wuxian says, tone stern, staring unflinchingly into Lan Xichen's eyes. "Yet I'm not sure if you know how far I am willing to go. Which is why I will tell you." Lan Xichen holds his breath. He is certain he doesn't imagine the slight flash of red in Wei Wuxian's sunlit irises.
"When I speak of my death, I don't speak of it lightly." Wei Wuxian says. "My deathbed is my birthplace, Lan Xichen. Death doesn't scare me. It won't consume me, not anymore, not after those months. My death is my mercy. Do you know why?"
Lan Xichen says nothing. Wei Wuxian doesn't seem to require him to speak. "I would level this entire sect to the ground." Wei Wuxian speaks, low and careful, as if ensuring Lan Xichen hears every word clearly.
"I could start, right now, and no living nor dead creature will be able to stop me. It would barely take me until nightfall. I would uproot every tree, overturn every body of water, bring down this mountain upon itself." Then, he tilts his head, and Lan Xichen uses every single last piece of his strength to hold himself back from drawing his sword. His mind screams at him, Run run run! But he can't. He's frozen in place, rooted on the spot.
"If I wanted to, I could make every single last one of your dead claw their way out of grave. I already know where your very well-hidden ancestral graveyard is." His eyelids flutter in a mockery of a blink over crimson eyes.
Only then does Lan Xichen realize that he hadn't blinked since they made eye-contact.
"I could turn your Wall of Discipline into ash with a snap of my fingers. I know the Wen tried, and failed. But I assure you, I am not the Wen." Lan Xichen barely holds back the words, the ones he only now realizes their truth.
No, you're more dangerous than the Wen.
"If I willed it, Gusu Lan would be no more come sunset." Wei Wuxian says casually, as though he speaks of the weather over tea, and not of the destruction of Lan Xichen's home. "None of your elders, disciples, Grandmaster Lan, or even you would be able to stop me. If you garnered all the knowledge inside your library, weaponized every spiritual artifact, or called upon the Heavens themselves, you would not be able to stop me." Lan Xichen finds that he does not doubt they could not. Four sects, maybe. Maybe. But one? One sect does not stand a chance against the full power of the Yiling Patriarch. "And I would do it," Wei Wuxian says, sounding less and less human, the more he speaks. It is as though his voice is echoed in the space between every bamboo tree. Lan Xichen barely feels the light of the sun, anymore. It is as though the black of the shadows have spread, like ink upon paper, clouding the sky. "I would, because twelve years ago, I woke in the middle of the night, half paralyzed and half out of my mind, with Lan Zhan bleeding out to death by the wards of Burial Mounds. If it weren't for his survival that demanded my attention, I would've levelled the mountains of Gusu that very night." Lan Xichen thinks back, to the storm, the rain. To Wangji's soaked body, to his trembling hands. He had thought the storm and downpour that flooded Gusu and lasted days to be ominous sign of Wangji's departure. Now he knows they escaped a much worse curse by a hair's breadth. "If you imagine that the weight of my regret and rage wouldn't be enough to turn this land over," Wei Wuxian goes on, voice level, pale face cold. "I suggest you thoroughly reconsider. I watched my Zhiji prone upon a bed for years. Every night, he takes the last of his robes off, and I see thirty-three scars on his back. He doesn't hide them, because he isn't ashamed, and I look at them, because I am." Lan Xichen lets himself exhale shakily.
He doesn't know how he musters up the bravery to speak. "Wangji's decisions–" The whispering air around him tightens so abruptly that he snaps his mouth shut. He's frozen. His limbs are cold, and stiff. He doesn't dare breathe in the condemning silence that follows. He waits, staring into Wei Wuxian's bloody eyes. He hadn't blinked, not even once, he thinks hysterically. "Lan Zhan's decisions are his," Wei Wuxian eventually says, calmly. "Is that what you were going to say?"
Lan Xichen swallows.
He doesn't nod.
 His muscles won't move.
His bones are stuck.
He prefers shouting to this deathly calm. "Lan Xichen. I do not care if I was persecuted, or whipped to death, or left out to bleed as a spectacle until I died." Wei Wuxian shrugs, and Lan Xichen notices with mounting horror that it's the first time he has seen his shoulders move since this conversation began.
His shoulders were not moving.
 His shoulders were not moving in the motion of breathing.
Lan Xichen's mind slowly reels out of his control.)
See it isn't even all of them, I think I like chapter 37 the most😭
"A-Xue." Nie Huaisang waves his fan in goodbye as he heads for his chamber's doors. "If someone comes for my fans, brushes, or wine, eat them. If they come for the sect documents, let them take it all."
He could always do with less paperwork. Saying that the documents were stolen will most likely not result in Nie Fenghuo cutting him in clean halves with her sabre.
Baofengxue growls softly in reprimand, as Nie Huaisang closes the doors behind him.
Even his own tiger is judgemental of him. Truly, the world is a cruel place.
Event planning
Inspired by me watching too many wedding shows
"I really don't know what to do for my bachelorette party!" Yanli sighed, shutting her laptop a bit too forcefully. "Every idea I've seen is just so... weird!"
"What, not into the strip club thing?" Wei Ying laughed as he emerged with an armful of snacks after rummaging through her pantry. "The peacock would freak out if you did that, it would be so funny! I can already imagine him screaming, crying, throwing up about it!"
Yanli sighed and sent him a stern look. "A-Xian."
"Going to a strip club for a bachelor or bachelorette party is just downright disrespectful in my opinion." Wen Qing chimed in, handing Yanli a glass of champagne. "How can you claim you're excited about getting married if you act like a horn dog around strangers the night before?"
Wei Wuxian helped himself with a glass of his own. "Yeah, true. I don't know how I would've reacted if Lan Zhan wanted that for his bachelor party when we married."
Wen Qing flicked his forehead. "As if Lan Wangji would be in any way interested in anyone that isn't you!"
"I did prank him that I wanted to go to a strip club for my own bachelor's." A suggestive smile. "That went just about as well as you can imagine."
An eye roll. "Yeah, we know, he fucked the idea right out of you."
"As he always does ♡"
"This still doesn't fix my problem, though!" Yanli whined, sinking into the plush sofa of her living room. "It was so easy for A-Xuan, he knew right away he wanted to go to the family chalet with his friends to go hunting and whatnot..."
"Who says we can't do the same? You don't even need guns, have Wen Qing glare at a deer and you'll get stew in no time."
Wen Qing gave him one of her best glares, inadvertedly proving his point. "I will pour this champagne glass on your head, Wei Wuxian, don't test me."
"Shijie will be upset if you do that and we're here to help her, right?"
Wen Qing gulped her entire champagne glass, then her face lit up with an idea. "Why don't we go on a little trip ourselves then?"
Yanli shook her head. "It would be so expensive booking something last minute..."
"You are marrying into so much money, Shijie, the peacock has been basically begging you to spend it. Pick something nice like the Maldives or Bora Bora and let's go!"
"The bachelorette party is for bachelorettes, Wei Wuxian." Wen Qing flicked his forehead again. "You have a husband. And a son. And like 100 rabbits. You are also a man. You don't qualify."
"Maybe so, but shijie loves me so very much, she wouldn't leave me behind, would she?"
Yanli patted his head with sympathy. "As much as I may love you, A-Xian, it is a ladies only event..."
"I can pretend to be a lady! Lan Zhan says I look good in dresses!"
Yanli giggled. "I'm sure you do, A-Xian."
"Can't I just... pilot the plane or something?" A playful nose scrunch. "You won't fly public, right?"
"Look at him, scrunching his face like that!" Wen Qing laughed. "What, you're too rich for Spirit Airlines now?"
"I'm not, Lan Zhan is. I'm just taking after him! Anyway, where are we going, shijie?"
Yanli sighed, fondly. "Let's see what we can find."
Round 1 Side B: Poll #1
Tumblr media
Propaganda!
Xue Yang:
So. Xue Yang is just a bitchy little guy. He makes enemies out of everyone including the people he cares about. He gets seriously injured and is dying on the side of the road, and then his (blind) nemesis saves him, unaware of who he is, and they basically adopt a kid together. Of course, nothing can ever go right for this bitch and if it does he'll make sure it goes wrong himself, and he tricks said nemesis (they might me in love) into murdering a lot of people, and his best friend. When the nemesis finds out about the murders, he asks Xue Yang if it was fun tricking him. Xue Yang says YES and laughs about it. And then when his nemesis kills himself upon learning that he killed his bestie, Xue Yang's facade cracks entirely and it becomes clear that his bitchy attitude is a front, and he goes a little bit (more) insane trying and failing to resurrect (? ghost-ify) his nemesis.
Also, he canonically likes sweets and if he lived in our time he would totally be the kind of gay who mysteriously always has a lollipop.
He's always insulting people, mostly to get a reaction.
**And** he's always insulting people.
-vivitur-moritur
Wei Wuxian:
He was brought back from the dead and put in the body of a twink only to give such intense twink energy for the whole story it makes the audience wonder if he was a twink in his original body
too. He is incredibly smart and capable but enjoys acting like a waifish maiden either just for funsies or for the express purpose of being dicked down by his husband. He also quite literally pretended
to be able to birth a child at a certain point and.... let's just say his most popular smut tag being "Wei Wuxian has a breeding kink" is for a reason. Also bonus info there's an era of his life where he's
meaner and kills a bunch of people and does a lot more necromancy and (in the donghua, anyways) his outfit gets a little sluttier. Thanks for your consideration
the ghost king's blessing; a tgcf and mdzs crossover headcanon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
on one of the rare times that xie lian came home early from work, there was time to watch her husband administering bets in the gambler's den.
on that fateful day, a man proposed a bet that was at least peculiar: his request was not for riches or fame, it was for a piece of the ghost king's sleeve. there was clearly a thinly-veiled joke behind the request, one that made hua cheng's lips lift into a smirk that sent a shudder through all the ghosts present, but not the daring punter, who was smirking just as slyly.
at that moment, xie lian finally took a second look at the man dressed in black and red. he has heard his name among the ghosts many times: wei wuxian, the yiling patriarch. the man seemed to have been someone important in life, but many idiots had been too, so xie lian hadn't given him much attention until now. he had to admit, the man at least had a sense of humor.
in the time it took for hua cheng to cut a piece from one of the sleeves of his own crimson robes and place it in the center of the betting table between them, the god noticed that wei wuxian was talking nonstop, as if intending to distract the ghost king from his game, or as if, for some reason, he actually felt comfortable babbling about himself in the other's presence.
xie lian thought the first option was more reasonable, but anyway, hua cheng got the upper hand, as expected.
the ghost king stared at the loser with such amusement that he genuinely looked like he'd never won a bet before, touching his slender fingers to the crimson fabric smugly, as if every second of victory was a delight.
however, before crimson rang crimson, a young man's voice flooded into the gambler's den filled with cultivation, making everyone's eyes turn to the ceiling: it sounded like some kind of rare spirit summoning, as strange as genius.
a surprise sound came from wei wuxian's lips preceded the disappearance of his spirit before the eyes of everyone present.
it took a few seconds for everyone to understand that the patriarch had disappeared. it took a few more minutes for them to understand that he had taken hua cheng's cut sleeve with him. it took a few days for them to understand why he disappeared, and most never even managed to do so. the crowd erupted in protests at wei wuxian's cheating, but fell silent immediately at the ghost king's laughter, which was so genuine it bordered on a laugh.
“I craved fun, and I really did,” he declared and nodded with his characteristic nonchalance, “I already have a red ribbon on my finger. so he needs this good more than I do.”
and when hua cheng said he hoped never to see wei wuxian again in the ghost city before calling the next punter, it sounded as tyrannical as it could be, but xie lian knew hua cheng like no one else, and he noted the sincerity contained in the words, realizing that he heard something in the story told by the other man that reminded him of his own wish out of protecting his loved one, or perhaps of xie lian's desire to help the common people, or perhaps both, which is why the yiling patriarch seemed worthy of his favor.
in his new body, it took some time for wei wuxian to notice the piece of fabric that, just for fun, his fingers held so tightly that it did not break even with his crossing from the world of the deads to the world of the livings. he unrolled the double layer of cloth over his fingers and watched a crimson ribbon come into view: it was as red as blood.
he thought that, just as the story was told by those who survived, blood was only seen as a symbol of death because its shedding caused the loss of life, which is why, in fact, blood was a symbol of life. so, by tying that red ribbon in the hair that framed his new face, he was off to his new chance.
the red ribbon swaying down his back contrasted with his black hair and robes, possessing the attention of all who saw him even from afar: it was the ghost king's blessing, shining like the flame of 3.000 lanterns in the darkest night, but leading straight to the one with the icy cold features, drawing the one who promised to always be where the chaos was to the one who was said to be chaos personified.
just a little bit of fate and then the rest would depend on how brave they were.
Yao: *twirling in his Lan furen attire* how do I look, team D?!! And Song'er?
Trio: *clapping* marvelous!! Stunning!!
Su she: if you're the Lan sect leader, I'll go back to the lan sect.
Xue yang: hotter than Lan xichen.
Mo xuanyu: he's always hotter than Lan lips.
Rusong: A-Die, you look gorgeous.
Yao: aww thanks guys.
*throws flowers* orchids for everyone!!
Rusong: haha.
Xue yang: ah Jiggy. My diva.
Su she: *blushing* Huangdi.
Mo xuanyu: *cheering* Yao gege! You're always my orchid!
Yao: great!
Xue yang: Jiggy lanned more than the Lans.
Su she: I know right. This will be my reason to go back to the lan sect. Because of a hot Huangdi.
Yao: ah you all flatter me so much.
But I don't want to blush in front of A-Huan.
Mo xuanyu: you will give him a nosebleed for days.
Xue yang: months!
Mo xuanyu: Jiggy you slay!!
.Cloud recesses 📍
Next day, Lan Qiren woke up to see fox spirits having a picnic on his lawn ( along with some students.)
Qiren: hey!!! What are you doing on my lawn!!
Lan students: *running away*
Fox spirits: *bowing* greetings Lan Qiren.
Chen (fox spirit): we were hungry.
Yunxi: and felt a bit mischievous too.
Qiren: all you do is cause trouble!! Picnics and noise aren't allowed in the cloud recesses!
And why is my clay pot broken.
Chen: sorry. Xi meimei had fell on it and it cracked.
Why can't we laugh, old man!
Come on, you're our Huangdi's uncle-in-law.
X: your clay pot was ugly anyways, and it might upset our Huangdi.
Qiren: *sighs* Huangdi my foot!! I'll throw you out of here!!
Yu: heyy you can't do that.
X: Master Qiren, here's a list of Huangdi's favourite meals.
Qiren: do I look like a chef?!
X: well find one na! You maybe have a staff of chefs.
Yu: Huangdi is on his way.
Qiren: then why are you niucences here?!
Yu: we live in Gusu, Lan qiren. And we have decided to come here to get a glimpse of our Huangdi.
Qiren: *crying* what have gotten into this Xichen!! Who told him to marry the emperor of Hulijings!! Who? He's getting just like Wangji!
HUANGDI IS HERE!!!!
The fox spirits almost trampled over qiren, as they rushed to the entrance.
Xichen: *comes out and helps A-Yao out of the caravan*
Yao: *wearing white, teal and coral, with hints of gold, complemented by a white and gold fan. Instead of his hat, he wore Jade and gold peony shaped hairpins and a headband.
Xichen: gorgeous.
Yao: *dimples* oh Huan.
Fox spirits: *awestruck* look at Huangdi!
He's Lan furen!
He's so hot.
Greetings Huangdi!!
Yao: hi darlings.
Huangdi we didn't bring any flowers for you, sorry.
Yao: aw it's ok.
Qiren: *limping*
Xichen: greetings Shufu.
Yao: *bows* greetings uncle-in-law.
Fox spirits: *whispering* omg Huangdi is so graceful.
Qiren: don't use them dimples on me. It isn't going to work.
Yao: *smiling*
Qiren: now why are your hulijing menaces all over cloud recesses and Gusu?
Yao: *demure* I don't know. Maybe they're excited to see me.
Xichen: shufu, it's not A-Yao's fault. Look at how cute he is.
And of course these fox spirits who are Gusu residents would be thrilled to see their Huangdi pass through.
Qiren: *rolls eyes*
I'm glad that you didn't bring those maniacs with you.
Yao: shufu? What maniacs?
Qiren: the former Lan student, that broken finger one who keeps asking about my love life. And that Huadian ghost who looks like Wei wuxian.
Yao: ohhh, you mean team dimple. They're not maniacs.
Yes they are a bit mischievous but they're very sweet when you get to know them. *smile*
Qiren: whatever they are. I'm glad they're not here.
*sarcasm* would you enter please, your majesty.
Xichen: awww.
Qiren: I guess I should arrange a room for you too.
Yao: no uncle-in-law. The Huanshi is fine for me.
A-Yao's attendants: excellent Huangdi!!!
Qiren: *clenches chest* Huan-Shi!!
Yao: yea! Zewu Jun's residence.
Xichen: *blushing* yea my residence. Hehe.
Qiren: NO!! YOU TWO CAN'T SHARE ONE BED!! I won't let you contaminate the cloud recesses with papapa!
We already have wangxian for that!
Xiying: oh dear. Why is he yelling?
Fuying: you shouldn't deny the emperor. If he wishes to sleep with any of his harem members, in a desired place, he can.
Qiren: h-harem member!!!!
Xichen: concubine. Someone who's married to Huangdi along with~~
Qiren: I know what a concubine is!!
Fine. You two. Go to the huanshi.
Xiyao: thank you shufu.
~
Yao: *almost trips, but Xichen caught him*
Xichen: be careful Huangdi.
Is the clothes too big for you?
Yao: no not at all. But you know, I'm just tiny.
Xichen: aww. So that's why you're easily swallowed in cloth.
Yao: yup.
Xichen: *lovingly grabs his hand* should I hold your hand then?
Yao: *cutely nods in agreement*
Xichen: mn.
Yao: Huan, your cloud recesses is beautiful.
Xichen: oh really. I want to show you something near the Huanshi, and in the Huanshi too.
Yao: your surprises are always the best.
Xichen: of course. Heehee.
Yao: but don't be too confident. Team dimple will deduct a point.
Xichen: lol.
I wonder what they're doing.
Yao: hmm maybe hanging out with Song'er.
Xichen: ah. Speaking of Song'er, he's such a great successor of yours. You raised him well.
Yao: thank you!! And Song'er is a natural talent.
Xichen: like you.
Yao: *blush*
Huanhuan, I want to tell you something. But keep it to yourself.
Xichen: sure I will. Tell me.
Yao: A-Song has a crush on someone.
Xichen: what?!!! On who?? That's so great A-Yao!!
Yao: on A-Qing.
Xichen: that's really cute!
Yao: and I want to bring them together.
Xichen: you should, A-Yao. You know I'm a matchmaker too. And all were successful.
Yao: yes yes. Wangxian is definitely successful.
Xichen: I shipped other people too, A-Yao. Not only Wangxian.
Yao: then who else, Huan. *laugh*
Xichen: ummm......I ship Sangcheng.
Yao: ok ok. Let's say you brought them together.
Xichen: I say you should send Song'er to a spring and then tell A-qing to take a walk near that same spring. Works every time.
Yao: Huan no. Lol.
But I'll set up some dates for them, secretly. And I have Zixuan.
Xichen: right. Team up with him. Since that he's A-Song's uncle.
Yao: yup. Zish and I will make a team!
Yao: *hugs his arm* Song'er don't want me to tell team dimple, because they might tease him.
Xichen: *laughing* oh no.
Poor Song'er.
Yao: baby don't want to be teased.
Yao: anyways, speaking of them, what do you have to say about the random team dimple. Do they annoy you? *laughing*
Xichen: never! I love everything associated with you.
Yao: lovely!
Xichen: sorry about shufu calling them maniacs.
Yao: it's alright. My team dimple are extremely intelligent and skilled in everything. Down to simping. And I don't care what anyone says about them.
Xichen: aww. I love it when you stand firmly on what you believe in. You're extraordinary. *kisses* love you.
A-Yao.
Yao: A-Huan.
Xichen: you look so cute with that forehead ribbon. And those hairpins.
Yao: *smile*
Xichen: truly a graceful Huangdi.
Yao: thank you very much, A-Huan.
Xichen: Huangdi.
Yao: hmm?
Xichen: do you want to admire the moon together later? And have some wine.
Yao: wine?? In the cloud recesses???
Xichen: no one knows what I hide in my Huanshi.
Do you think that only Wangji can do that?!
And besides, I'm married to a diva emperor. Obviously I must cater for him.
Yao: *opens fan* how mischievous.
But I like it.
Do you sneak in meat??
Xichen: no. I'm still vegetarian.
But I LOVE your Yunping delicacies.
I would eat a little chicken, but only when it's made by you.
Yao: awwww.
Xichen: it reminds me of when you saved me.
Yao: Xichen you're the cutest thing.
What else did you sneak into the Huanshi?
Xichen: maybe roasted chicken at some time. But I didn't like it. Because it was from Gusu.
Yao: then what else?
Xichen: you.
Yao: *blushing intensly* Zewu Jun. What....what if....people hear you....omg.
Xichen: *yelling* I SNUCK A-YAO INTO THE HUANSHI!!!!
Qiren in the distance: *almost faints* shameless!
Yao: hahahaha stop!
So Zewu Jun. Can we have a music session like old times?
Xichen: of course. And you're so excellent at playing the guqin. You're a guqin prodigy.
Yao: you're the one who taught me originally.
Xichen: I believe that you knew how to play it already. And just practiced with me.
*teasing* maybe you pretended to not know how to play the guqin, so that you can spend alone time with me.
Yao: did it work?
Xichen: yes. And now I'm fully seduced by you.
Yao: happy?
Xichen: very.
Yao: good. *tiptoes to kiss him*
Xichen: *kisses*
Yao: where's your flute, Xichen?
Xichen: which flute?
Yao: *hits him with his fan* er ge!!
Xichen: I learnt that from Wangji. He once asked Wei Gongzi the same thing and that was the answer.
Yao: oh my!
Xichen: Anyways. Liebing is here. At the emperor's service *bows* and delight.
Yao: *giggling* er ge. You're making me laugh. You're so cute.
Xichen: because I feel like I'm in love.
Yao: maybe you are.
Xichen: mhm.
Xichen: here's the Huanshi, A-Yao!
And look, I planted peonies.
Yao: aww, er ge!! It's gorgeous. I love it so much!!
Xichen: *wraps his arm around him* for my peony.
Yao: *hugs*
*entering the Huanshi*
Yao: beautiful house, er ge. As always.
Xichen: yep. And look, I set up a little fox spirit shrine in the corner.
Yao: how sweet.
*sits*
Xichen: sometimes I would offer flowers.
Yao: aw. Does Lan qiren know?
Xichen: nop. What happens in the Huanshi stays in the Huanshi.
Yao: hmmm. Lan lips has secrets.
Xichen: don't tell team dimple.
Yao: *laughing* I'll think about that.
Xichen: they'll interrogate me more.
Yao: but I like when they interrogate you.
Xichen: oh my! Well at least it entertains you.
And I know that you're their everything.
Yao: right.
Xichen: *kisses his hands* Diva. Would you have a music session with me?
Yao: *blushing* I would love to.
Xichen: *pulls out his liebing*
Yao: *makes his guqin appear*
Xichen: let's see if Huangdi is still an excellent guqin player.
Yao: well, you're here to teach me, if I mess up.
Xichen: mhm.
Yao: *blushing*
Xichen: *plays his flute*
Yao: *plays guqin.
Sometimes I think abt how neither Shang Qinghua OR Mobei Jun are going by their real names
Shang Qinghua? The name of the character Airplane transmigrated into!! (Tho there are some hc's that sqh was his self insert w/ his real name and those are fun)
Mobei Jun? Inherited name!!! Jun is just a suffix akin to lord or smth (don't quote me on that I don't have my book handy I just remember it's high status) and Mobei is passed down through his family to whoever is to inherit the power from their predecessor
Like wtf you two you live like this?? Anyway they should kiss and/or fuck abt it
Luo Binghe nodded. He had more to say, but he sensed something slightly off. Shen Qingqiu seemed to be paying extra attention to him today. He couldn't help but smile.
"Why does Shizun keep looking at me?" he asked. "Could it be that this disciple was gone for so long that Shizun also missed him?"
"I'm not allowed to look at someone I raised?" asked Shen Qingqiu.
Luo Binghe chortled. "Of course Shizun is allowed. Am I pleasing to look at?"
Shen Qingqiu shook his head while smiling, and he considered his next words.
one of my favorite scenes from when lbh was still a 'white lotus' as sqq would say ✨
too bad his shizun is so dense with internalized homophobia and dumbass he doesn't even know lbh is flirting with him at all,,
Hi, hope youre doing good.
I was wondering if you know any fics with loads and loads of angst but a happy ending still. Need to cry to feel something today you know🫦😿
Thank you
Hi I hope you're doing good too! Here are some longer fics that made me feel many things.
Hopefully at least some of these are new to you. Happy reading!
show me a quiver, give me tonight by spookykingdomstarlight
(this author has many long angsty with happy ending fics actually!)
When Wei Ying woke up this morning, he hadn’t expected to learn that Lan Zhan had sex on the regular, Lan Zhan had sex with men on the regular, and Lan Zhan had sex with men on the regular and purportedly wrote about it in a spreadsheet. But learn those things he did, the knowledge seared into his memory with viciously quick speed, instantly becoming one of those things he’d never forget. The only thing he wanted and couldn’t have was to unlearn it.
I will be chasing a starlight by feyburner, sundiscus
“You know what?” Wei Ying said. “I think we should be friends.”
“Vulcans do not have friends,” said Lan Zhan. He was staring very determinedly at the screen in front of him.
Wei Ying frowned at him. “That can’t be right.
love is the subject and love’s loss the text grief breaks the heart and yet the grief comes next
Lan Zhan sees the haunted look that’s settled in Wei Ying’s eyes, sees that, no matter how much Wei Ying laughs, it never truly goes away. The light of Wei Ying remains, but it dims, and Lan Zhan wants to cradle it in his palms, breathe what little life into it he can, keep it safe, but he can’t. So Lan Zhan learns what it is to mourn what’s right in front of him and realises he’s already had a lot of practice.
Or, Lan Zhan's love and grief as he loses Wei Ying then gets him back.
Death is banal. It’s boring. It happens every day. It happens to someone else, always, until it doesn’t.
Lan Zhan looks down at the essay. He doesn’t get any further than the name before he hears the soft sound of fabric rustling from the doorway. The second set of breathing betraying that he is no longer alone.
Every nerve in his body locks down for impact.
When Lan Wangji stubbornly climbed that mountain, it was with the sole purpose of bringing his love home safely. But Wei Wuxian... his Wei Ying, was nowhere to be found. What Lan Wangji found was a frail little boy and an unbridled rage at the world that allowed this all to come to pass.
OR
What if Wangji stayed in the Burial Mounds after Nightless City?
What if Yiling still had a Patriarch?
Wei Wuxian wanders after parting from Lan Wangji, looking to understand the changes in the world since his death, seeking to understand his place in it. He doesn't realize he's being watched.
Frankencanon, so this has a liberal mixture of CQL and MDZS, but largely tied to CQL.
Mid-Youth Crisis, by baxia (2nd in a series, 3 chapters)
Gulping, he reaches out to take the book from his hands and stares some more at the boy as he sits down on the chair he pulled out. “Hi! Do you mind if I sit here?”
Lan Zhan looks at the boy, at the chair that he now occupies, and back at the boy. “You're already sitting.” Fortunately, his voice does not come out as a pathetic, squeaky thing.
The boy throws his head back and laughs, too loud for the place they're in. Lan Zhan's glare does not shut him up and only makes the boy laugh harder. “Sorry, sorry!” The boy wipes around his eyes, trying to quieten his giggles. “I just saw that you were sitting alone and thought I should say hi. You're new, right? I'm Wei Ying!”
or; transferring schools has turned lan zhan's life around in a way he would have never thought. he's not complaining.
A-Ying Lives Alone, by DizziDreams
Lan Qiren approaches, trying not to frown as he looks down at the young boy in his strange clothes. “Young man, are your parents at work? They should not have left you home alone without a caretaker."
Alternate Headcanons, by nirejseki
Random assortment of MDZS ficlets in response to a request for prompts for alternate headcanons for characters
Birdsong, by lilcakes
He grabs the washcloth that lay beside the pot and dips it into the cooling water and makes gentle work of cleaning A-Yuan’s face and hands from the dirt and ash that litter his tiny body. He wonders, for a moment, if Wei Wuxian were here, would he care for A-Yuan the same way.
If he were here, he would not be needing to care for a sickly child, the thought leaves something bitter burning deep in his chest and he shakes himself of the thought before continuing his meticulous work.
Almost as soon as Lan Wangji has little A-Yuan’s face cleaned, and a clean warm washcloth over his forehead, Lan Xichen makes another appearance.
“Wangji. Please.” Cautiously, as though he’s afraid that if he moves too quickly, his brother will break, Lan Xichen steps into his sleeping quarters. “Didi, rest. Let me change your bandages.”
Or 13 years Wangji grieved and raised his son by himself and the 1 year he didn't have to.
Rabbit Charm, by aoeros
“You gotta promise me that when you’re back home and settled in, I’ll be the first you come to see. Because I’m going to miss you more than anyone else will, Lán Zhàn. Except your brother, of course.”
“Of course. I promise to come find you first after I’ve settled back in.”
“Great! Then I promise to call you whenever I can. And, I will definitely not forget you.”
Grand Master of Rogue Cultivation, by waterphoenix21
A Wei Wuxian raises A-Yuan fic!
But feeling as if he no longer belongs to any clan, Wei Wuxian decides to raise little Wen Yuan on his own, as he sets on a path to becoming a rogue cultivator, following in his mother's footsteps and seeking to find the mystical mountain of the legendary immortal, Baoshan Sanren.
Nanny Wei, by Odae
“When can you start?"
Wei Ying whirled around to look at Lan Zhan. “Wait, what?”
“We have a benefit tomorrow night,” Lan Xichen added in explanation, “here at the house, so we rather urgently need someone to look after A-Yuan.”
“I—” Wei Ying looked around the living room; at the nice furniture, at Lan Xichen, at the high ceilings, at A-Yuan still holding onto his hand. And then at Lan Zhan. “I could start now. Like, right now.”
“Mn.” Lan Zhan nodded, and then addressed A-Yuan. “Yuan-er, will you show Wei Ying his room?”
--
Wei Ying had no style, no flair, but he was there. That's how he became the nanny!
Darkest time, by LilacNeko
Lan Wangji dies and the cultivation world is left to live with the aftermath.
The Twin Ghosts of Yunmeng, by sandupommelfrog
After months of planning to resettle the Wen remnants and stop Wei Wuxian’s terminal decline from demonic cultivation, disaster struck, and Jiang Cheng was left alone, throwing away everything to try to save his brother including his life and his sect. But, he can’t let his own death stop him from his duty to his people or his love for his nephew, and Jiang Cheng breathes again to begin the slog of rebuilding. The years are long, the world is dangerous, and his own health is a daily battle, but Jiang Cheng is not alone this time.
Even with Yunmeng Jiang destroyed, the outside world still fears the vengeance the Twin Ghosts of Yunmeng will wreak upon them, and they will rise again as snakes writhe in Koi Tower and the tangles of deception gradually untwist.
Also a mer au :D
What has long been concealed, by Gaby007
The Burial Mounds change everything falling in their grasp, Wei Wuxian is well-placed to know it. Lan Wangji is rather nonplussed when he learns his beloved's secret yet seizes the opportunity to finally bring the Yiling Patriarch to Gusu and keep him safe.
Now, he just has to keep Wei Ying hidden from the cultivation world, and maybe he will get to learn some secrets of the Lan sect as he does.
General:
he, who died, is ignorant, by Maxciel_99
Jiang Cheng is thirteen when his eyes lose the shine that has always mirrored Wei Wuxian’s wild spirit. And then no longer is he a shadow of anyone but merely a shell of himself.
Here is a man who is served the world, for once, but he has turned a boy who finally stops wishing and wanting all at once.
Or basically, JC time travels somehow and he's acting strange. Likely depressed? Who knows?
comprehensive list of every MDZS character that has made a ‘are we in a relationship/is this gay??’ post in an au where everything is the same except reddit exists and people use modern terminology when it’s funny
obviously, wei wuxian. ‘i’ve been playing gay chicken with this guy and sleeping in the same bed as him and he’s really quiet but he hasn’t been telling me to quit it like he used to and also he looks at me strangely sometimes and buys me drinks and we actually wound up having sex the other night--’ responses tend: ‘you’ve had sex how many times? yeah, that’s not technically a bromance’
lan xichen makes one while on the road with meng yao, lovingly detailing how they’ve been doing chores together and meng yao thoughtlessly called him a ‘good boy’ while doing laundry and it made him blush really hard, omg, and he wants to believe something might be there but meng yao is just so smart and talented and the situation’s difficult so he doesn’t want to presume even though meng yao keeps touching his hands while teaching him to mend clothes and seems to have a special smile just for him, etc etc. responses: people going ‘op just go for it’ and a bunch of people just calling him a sub
xiao xingchen and song lan make posts at the same time about their amazing friend that they share a common dream with and we kind of casually hold hands sometimes and call each other endearments but like, platonically? i think? reponses: ‘oh my fucking god *posts screenshot of the other one’s post*’. they wind up having a good laugh over it and making an update post about how they’re together now
years later xiao xingchen makes a post about how he’s been cohabiting with this guy who keeps on making jokes to make him laugh and teasing him by calling them ‘married’ and like, they are living together and sort of raising a teenager, well mostly she’s raising herself, but anyway - he thinks he’s getting signals but he’s had some trouble with relationships ending messily before, and he doesn’t want to presume something and make his friend uncomfortable, what they have is so precious... responses: a-qing’s burner account saying the guy is sus, don’t go for it. xue yang’s burner saying ‘he’s 100% into you. jump his bones’
jin guangyao makes a post asking ‘if a guy you really like and sort of had a summer romance with asks you to be sworn brothers, but like... also sworn brothers with your ex, what does it mean?’ and deletes the post after accumulating a bunch of responses demanding more info
jiang cheng demands to know that if you’re best friends with someone and they’re sort of your adopted brother but definitely your sect brother and they PROMISED with their OWN MOUTH to stay by your side and then they dump you to go off and cohabit with ANOTHER MAN and a bunch of refugees but that bit’s not important, that’s like, a breach of contract, right? because you’re in a relationship, right? responses: a number of people directing him to r/AITA. ‘op is this even a romantic relationship or is it a bro thing’ jc replies saying IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT IT IS and deletes, but not before screenshots are everywhere
xue yang makes a post about how he was like, sort of faking being into this guy for lulz but now he’s kind of caught feelings and the flirting-to-make-the-other-guy-uncomfortable has escalated to morning kisses and the dude keeps leaving candy on his pillow and like... do you guys think he’s just playing along with the joke, or is it serious? responses: ‘oh my fucking god op’ ‘yeah you’re dating. you’re like 75% married’ and a-qing’s burner account telling him he’s reading too much into it
su she makes a post detailing how he’s had a crush on his boss who’s also his friend for a while and so he doesn’t want to let his hopes make him assume anything but his boss is extremely touchy-feely with him sometimes and asks him to work late alone together on... projects, it’s not important what, and maybe he gets playfully called a ‘work boyfriend’ a lot and his boss goes out of his way to compliment him sometimes, etc... Multiple responses point out he’s listed like 80 kinds of HR violations. su she replies it doesn’t matter. responses assert that yeah, it kind of does, also did you mention your boss already has a boyfriend? red flag op. sms gets pissed at nobody addressing his actual question and deletes the post
jin guangyao makes a post asking how many times you have to ‘jokingly’ call someone your boyfriend and spend late nights working on projects while finding excuses to touch before you acknowledge maybe something is going on. he gets a few OH MY GOD IT’S YOU... MR HR VIOLATIONS responses before swiftly deleting
wen ning has attempted to write a post several times throughout his life and undeath and always chickened out and deleted what he wrote at the last moment. he finally just makes a post about regrets and wishing you’d asked things outright and shared your feelings on r/offmychest or something. it’s very moving and gets shared a lot. wwx absolutely sees it and comments ‘man the dude in this story must be an asshole to not realize op’s feelings’ with 0 self awareness. for my own happiness this absolutely is the start to an endgame ningxian postcanon au
lan wangji makes an account post guanyin temple to ask ‘if a man tells me ‘I like you, I love you, I whatever you, I want to fuck you every day’, does that mean we’re in a relationship?’ he ignores every response except the first person to just say ‘yep’, replies ‘thank you’ to that person and then never returns to xianxia reddit
“My five stars danmei novels.” | Short maybe not that short reasons why I like them.
Tumblr media
🎋 —Xiao Mogu.
Tumblr media
carrd.
One of the best sci-fi novels I've read in my life, and for the moment, my absolute favourite. The world-building was mind-blowing. The author makes the reader feel the horror of living in an apocalyptic society. PS. If you want to feel more horrified, the end of the world starts in 2020.
An Zhe, a tiny little mushroom, turns into a human. The way he slowly starts to understand human emotions is precious. And Lu Feng, oh, my coronel... 🤧 Their love story will make you cry.
I'll add this quote that symbolises the novel pretty well:
Do not go into that gentle night.
🎋 —Mo Du.
Tumblr media
carrd.
This is one of the best crime novels I've read in my life. I think I was wasted all of my braincells understanding the plot. [sighs] If only I was this intelligent with chemistry... Anyways, who cares about chemistry? We're here to talk about Mo Du.
What I love the most about this book is the way everything is connected at the end. You go, “Wow” when you finish it.
The couple dynamic is rivals-to-lovers (chef's kiss). When they start flirting with each other, ho, ho. 👀 And, guys, they have two cats sons!!!
🎋 —Fake Slackers.
Tumblr media
carrd.
Fake Slackers has such a happy vibe. ~ I was genuinely happy reading it. If you know me, you know, I'm, cough, a masochist and not that fond of fluff, but this one is one of those exceptions. ♡
I love He Zhao and Xie Yu soooooo much, and the whole classroom too. There were moments they made me laughed a lot.
If you're still in high school, go and read this novel; it will give you good advice. If you want to reminisce your days in school, read it too!
🎋 —MDZS.
Tumblr media
carrd.
Ah, my first danmei novel. 🤧 I'm nostalgic. I remember I was so sad when I finished it because I thought I would never find a novel like this.
What can I say? This is a classic. The plot is incredible and so are the characters and the world-building. Lan Wangji remembered me what is like to fall in love with a fictional character. Lan-er-gege, I love you.
And Wei Wuxian, ah, I identified with him in a lot of things. HE'S FUCKING YILING LAZOU. MAD RESPECT. EVERYBODY KNEEL.
Wangxian is still one of my favourite couples, even after all this time.
I have to say that I didn't cry reading the novel, but I was torn down. But then, hahaha, I cried with every single adaptation. It's Xiao Xingchen's fault —I'm weak for the Yi City arc. The crying starts there.
🎋 —Liu Yao.
Tumblr media
carrd.
I have two words to say: MY CHILDREN. [breakdowns]
I cried, I have to say, I cried with this one. BUT HOW COULD I NOT?
Fuyao Sect members are my protégé, especially Yan Zhengming. My handsome and narcissistic da-shixiong, I would put my hands on fire for you. He's simply my favourite.
Oh, this novel is such a ride. There are so many feelings. It questions “What is cultivation?,” “What is ascension?,” “How is ascension different from death?” Philosophical, isn't it? As expected from Priest.
Also! The quote that is on bio comes from this novel, and it's simply supreme and when you read that part... [sobbing]
Tumblr media
Here is it! Part two of “My five stars danmei novels,” y'all! There are still a lot of novels I love, there will be a part three, don't worry. ~
Read them and suffer (actually, there's not angst in Fake Slackers, so you won't suffer with that one) with me!
Run through me
Title inspired by this song, which also inspired the ficlet entirely. Here's the winning option on this poll, but I'll probably be writing all of these in time anyway.
Also, today is my 3 year MDZS anniversary, so this doubles as a little celebration ficlet for that!
Warnings: canon typical violence and a bit of gore
Enjoy! <3
"You lot aren't the brightest, are you?" Wei Wuxian's voice echoes through the cave, the two tall candles that have been lit in the back casting ominous shadows over the stone walls. His tone is neutral, bordering on amused, though it carries an edge of something that could only be described as hair-raising danger.
The sharp sound of two swords being drawn pierces the silence of the cave, and the shadows on the wall writhe in response, giving away that they are not mere plays of the light.
"You cannot possibly think your swords could do anything here." Wei Wuxian laughs, finally revealing himself from amongst the shadows of the night and the resentful energy guarding the entrance to the Demon Slaughtering Cave.
"You would think for two impossibly audacious, suicidal bastards, you'd think of a place other than the Burial Mounds to take the Yiling Patriarch's husband and son to."
"You aren't the only demonic cultivator that's thriving here." A man says, and his eyes glint red as if for emphasis.
"True." Wei Wuxian replies, smiles in a way that would have been friendly had his eyes not carried such clear dark intent behind them. "However, I am the one that invented it. The only one."
He waves a hand and the shadows on the walls disperse around the cave, a dark fog that renders candlelight useless. Wei Wuxian glares, red, bloodthirsty, his pupils both bright and dark, hellfire piercing through the darkness of the cave.
"If you want to hurt the ones I love..." and he lifts Chenqing to his lips, wisps of resentful energy dancing around him like untamed children, "...you're going to have to go through me." A smile. "And I guarantee you won't."
Chenqing's shrill notes bounce off the stone walls of the cave, almost as loud as the screams that follow.
The candles writhe before the fire dies out, and all that is left is sound.
Mindless slashes of swords against incorporeal targets, talismans failing to burn, spells that cut off into shouts for help. The sound of ripping flesh and cracking bones, the unmistakable smell of blood and the rot that fills the place whenever the Burial Mounds feed on something living.
There are gargles, words of apology, curses, pleas - but they drown into the wailing nothingness of resentment, replaced with the excited screams of the spirits that have received another in their ranks.
Wei Wuxian waves a hand, and it all stops. Candles light up again, and the shadows have returned into the crevices of the walls, quietly murmuring as if to entice Wei Wuxian to call onto them again.
The two men - or rather, whatever's left of them - lay haphazardly across the cave's floor, drying blood stains the only evidence of what had transpired in the dark. Wei Wuxian lets the red in his eyes slowly extinguish, the intensity of it stinging his pupils.
He feels the resentment slowly slide off him, like armor plates falling off his shoulders. Though his cultivation never actually hurts him, he can admit he has overdone it a little bit this time - but his emotions ran too high for him to bother to keep himself in check. The moment he was told something had happened to Lan Wangji and Lan Sizhui, he felt like he lost some of his mind and much of his self control, desperately trying to trace back the last place his loved ones had been seen.
When he was told it had been the boundary of the Burial Mounds, he nearly leaped with joy - there was no other place better than that for him to be able to quickly find his family and dispose of whoever dared hurt them in the most effective and definitive way.
He didn't even care to find their motives, or even their names. All he wanted was them dead. Perhaps some of those rumors about the cruel Yiling Patriarch had been true. And, not that he ever minded them, but he'd have no problem proving them true if anyone ever dared hurt his family again.
Lan Wangji and Lan Sizhui lay asleep in the most distant corner of the cave, leaning against one another. There are no major injuries on their bodies - of course not, Wei Wuxian chides himself, they're powerful cultivators with strong golden cores - and they seem to be peaceful, chests rising and falling rhythmically.
It feels... Wei Wuxian doesn't know how it feels. These two don't belong in this wretched place, yet Wei Wuxian feels like they're safest here. Like nothing could ever hurt them, any of them, if they just stayed here, where he could protect them, where nobody would dare...
Wei Wuxian shakes his head as if to rid of those thoughts. He knows they're not his own.
However, trying to leave the Burial Mounds at night is next to impossible - he would know better than anyone. And if Lan Zhan and Sizhui are already sleeping, there is no reason disturbing them. They'd have nothing to do out here anyway.
Wei Wuxian knows he won't be able to sleep, high on adrenaline and knowing he'd stirred the Burial Mounds' hunger too much to be safe for him not to stand guard.
So, he takes his old seat at his makeshift invention table, and finds himself scribbling talismans.
He tries not to let his eyes mist over at the thought that he used to dream of this a lifetime ago.
Secret Marriage
Jiang Cheng and Nie Mingjue are giggling when they stumble through the door. There’s nothing even remotely funny about the situation, except that they are together and happy and just drunk enough to find it funny.
“Your brother’s parties are dangerous,” Jiang Cheng says, clinging to Nie Mingjue’s arm when he stumbles and it makes Nie Mingjue laugh again.
“They are,” he agrees with a groan and steers them towards the couch where he promptly sits down, resting his head against the backrest. “I’m so tired,” he whispers and Jiang Cheng giggles again, even though there’s still no reason for it.
“It’s almost three am, of course you’re tired,” he says between his chuckles and sits down next to Nie Mingjue, completely pressed to his side and throwing his legs over Nie Mingjue’s lap.
Now that they are sitting down, exhaustion hits him and Jiang Cheng blinks slowly.
“We should go to bed,” he slurs out, as much impacted by the alcohol as by his tiredness and Nie Mingjue hums.
“You know what we should do?” he asks and puts his arm around Jiang Cheng.
“What?”
“Marry.”
“What.”
“We should marry,” Nie Mingjue says again and despite the way it makes Jiang Cheng feel warm down to his bones he frowns.
“We’ve only been together for seven months,” he argues but it’s mostly because he feels like he has to.
“So what. You’re practically living with me anyway and I don’t see myself ever dating anyone else. Do you?” Nie Mingjue asks him and Jiang Cheng shakes his head even as he pats Nie Mingjue’s chest.
“We should not make decisions while drunk,” Jiang Cheng says and channels his sister’s voice of reason.
“True. So marry me in the morning,” Nie Mingjue whispers, clearly already half asleep and Jiang Cheng nods.
He would marry Nie Mingjue in a heartbeat, drunk or not, and that’s his last thought before he, too, falls asleep.
Jiang Cheng wakes up to a splitting headache and lips pressed to his forehead.
“Marry me,” Nie Mingjue mumbles, and Jiang Cheng snorts, not caring that his head feels like it’s exploding.
“You’re still drunk,” he accuses Nie Mingjue who promptly waves a cup of coffee under Jiang Cheng’s nose.
“I am no such thing,” he corrects him when Jiang Cheng almost yanks the cup out of his hands.
“Are you sure?” Jiang Cheng asks between sips and when Nie Mingjue also puts a painkiller into his hand, Jiang Cheng sighs contentedly.
“You’re the best and I love you.”
“Then marry me,” Nie Mingjue says again and now that Jiang Cheng is a little bit more awake, he notices that Nie Mingjue is already dressed and seems to be fully awake.
So he truly is no longer drunk. And that means there’s only one answer Jiang Cheng can give.
“Okay. Yes. I will marry you.”
His answer is met with a hungry kiss and by the time they part, his coffee has almost gone cold.
“Let’s do it today,” Jiang Cheng decides and Nie Mingjue smiles at him, his wide, happy smile that puts his dimples on display and makes his eyes crinkle.
“Yes,” he enthusiastically agrees and twines their fingers together. “And let’s not tell anyone.”
“My soul, if we go to the courthouse we need witnesses,” Jiang Cheng tells him. “That means we need at least two people.”
Nie Mingjue makes a grimace at that.
“Not Huaisang. I love him, but he’s going to make such a huge thing out of this.”
“Not my siblings, either, for the same reasons,” Jiang Cheng agrees and shares a look with Nie Mingjue.
“Zonghui?” Jiang Cheng then asks and Nie Mingjue nods.
“And Wen Qing.”
“Good idea,” Jiang Cheng says and gets his phone out, immediately dialling her number.
“This better be serious,” Wen Qing greets him and Jiang Cheng winces when he realizes that he just woke her up.
And she doesn’t sound too happy about it.
“I need you as a witness,” Jiang Cheng tells her and there’s a suspicious silence on the other end of the line.
“I am not going to cover up a crime for you,” she then tells him and Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes.
“I’m not Wei Wuxian, Qing-jie,” he says with a sigh. “I need you as a witness for my marriage.”
“Are you still drunk?”
“No.”
“Are you under duress?”
“No.”
“Are you marrying Nie Mingjue?”
“Yes.”
A pause.
“Fine. When do you need me?”
Jiang Cheng looks at Nie Mingjue.
“In two hours?” he asks and Nie Mingjue nods. “Yes, in two hours,” he says again, this time more to Wen Qing, who sighs.
I’ll be there,” she promises. “Now let me properly wake up.”
Before Jiang Cheng can say anything to that she hung up on him and he shrugs.
“She’ll be there.”
“I texted Zonghui, he’ll be there, too,” Nie Mingjue tells him and pulls him in for a kiss. “I can’t believe I’m going to marry you.”
“I can’t believe it either,” Jiang Cheng whispers back, but he’s so, so happy.
“Now let’s get ready, Wen Qing will have our heads if we don’t look our best.”
“True,” Jiang Cheng says with a snort and gets up.
He has to prepare for his wedding.
~*~*~
Wen Qing is already waiting in front of the courthouse when they arrive and she doesn’t look too happy.
“You’re late,” she snaps, but she looks approvingly at their outfit. “At least you dressed for the occasion.”
“It is our wedding,” Jiang Cheng says, slightly hurt that Wen Qing expected him to show up like a slob.
“True.” Her gaze fixes on Nie Mingjue. “If you make him cry, just know that we always are in need of fresh organs at the hospital. And I know how to keep you alive.”
Nie Mingjue tenses at Jiang Cheng’s side, but he dutifully nods.
“I promise, there will only ever be happy tears,” he promises her.
“Good. Now. Who is this?” she asks with a look around Jiang Cheng, her threat apparently already forgotten.
“That’s Nie Zonghui, my cousin,” Nie Mingjue says and Wen Qing let’s her eyes roam over him as he steps out from behind Nie Mingjue.
“So it runs in the family then,” she finally says and Jiang Cheng splutters.
“I thought you were gay!”
“I’m bi, thank you very much, and I can damn well appreciate a beautiful man,” she says, completely shameless and Nie Zonghui smiles at her.
“How about admiring me from here?” he asks as he steps close and offers his arm to her.
“And he has manners too,” she appreciatively says and puts her hand on his arm. “Shall we?” she asks and then they are off into the courthouse, leaving Nie Mingjue and Jiang Cheng to stare after them.
“What have we just done?” Nie Mingjue whispers and Jiang Cheng shrugs.
“I am not sure. But maybe we should follow them before they steal our spot. Or kill us.”
“True,” Nie Mingjue nods and leads Jiang Cheng into the building.
The wedding is over quickly; a few words from the clerk, signatures from all four of them and a kiss and then that’s done.
Jiang Cheng and Nie Mingjue are married.
“You don’t even have rings, do you?” Wen Qing asks judgingly but Jiang Cheng is too busy smiling at Nie Mingjue to care about her tone.
“Nope.”
“Unbelievable. You should get to that then,” she tells them and looks at Nie Zonghui. “And should take me out for lunch.”
“With pleasure,” he says and smiles at Nie Mingjue and Jiang Cheng. “Congratulations to you both again, but you really should get rings to go with your marriage.”
“We have that handled,” Jiang Cheng quickly says and reaches for Nie Mingjue’s hand. “You go and have fun.”
“Oh, we will,” Wen Qing assures them and then promptly leaves them, Nie Zonghui following after her.
“We better get those rings now,” Jiang Cheng says to Nie Mingjue who smiles brightly at him.
“Yes, husband,” he agrees happily and Jiang Cheng blushes.
He himself couldn’t be happier.
~*~*~
Sibling’s lunch is as chaotic as ever and Jiang Cheng enjoys ever second of it. He’s in a heated discussion with Jin Zixuan and Nie Mingjue, while Jiang Yanli is talking a bit more quietly to Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, when suddenly Wei Wuxian stands up, effectively getting all the attention.
“My dear family,” he says and then winks at Jin Zixuan, “and Jin Zixuan,” he adds then, making everyone laugh, including Jin Zixuan.
“I have an announcement to make.”
“Are you pregnant?” Jiang Cheng asks and enjoys how Lan Wangji’s ears turn slightly red.
Wei Wuxian might be completely shameless, but Lan Wangji is not so.
“No! A-Cheng, no! But—” he makes a dramatic pause. “we did kind of elope and got married,” he then rushes out and the whole table goes silent.
“Wei Wuxian,” Jiang Cheng then snaps out and Wei Wuxian laughs, making Jiang Cheng laugh as well.
“The holiday last week was our honeymoon,” Wei Wuxian admits and Jiang Cheng shakes his head.
“I’m happy for you,” Jiang Cheng says and pats Lan Wangji’s back. “Very happy.”
“But A-Xian,” Jiang Yanli says, tears in her eyes. “We didn’t celebrate!”
“We can celebrate now,” Wei Wuxian says with a wince.
“True,” Jiang Yanli admits and then smiles under her tears. “I am so happy for you!”
“Thank you,” Wei Wuxian says, a little teary eyed now himself and then he winks at Jiang Cheng. “And besides, we can still have our big celebration when Jiang Cheng and Mingjue finally decide to tie the knot.”
“That’s right,” Jiang Yanli agrees and Jiang Cheng freezes in his chair. “How long has it been now, three years? Did you already talk about it?”
“Uhm,” Nie Mingjue says and looks to Jiang Cheng for help.
“About that,” Jiang Cheng hesitantly says.
“Jiang Wanyin,” Jiang Yanli sternly says and Jiang Cheng reaches out for Nie Mingjue’s hand.
“We kind of did that already?” he then asks and both he and Nie Mingjue reach for the chain around their necks, their wedding rings usually nestled under their clothes pulled out now. “Surprise?”
“Jiang Wanyin!” Wei Wuxian now also yells and Jiang Cheng winces. “For how long?”
“Two and a half years now?” Jiang Cheng winces. “We only took Qing-jie and Zonghui as witnesses.”
“I see,” Jiang Yanli says. “That’s why they never told anyone how they started dating.”
“Yeah,” Nie Mingjue confirms. “We’re sorry.”
“A-Cheng, so long and you never said?” Jiang Yanli asks and she sounds sad, which Jiang Cheng hates.
“Well, it was kind of a spur of the moment decision and then it felt so natural that we never really talked about it again?”
“So you have been happily married,” Jin Zixuan says and Jiang Cheng nods.
“So very happily,” he agrees and Jin Zixuan looks at his own wife.
“Are you going to be mad at them for being happy?” he asks and Jiang Yanli deflates.
“Of course not,” she decides. “I am very happy for you,” she tells Nie Mingjue and Jiang Cheng then, and they nod, before Nie Mingjue sucks in a breath.
“Fuck, Huaisang,” he says and turns wide eyes on Jiang Cheng.
“We have to call him right now,” Jiang Cheng agrees and watches as Nie Mingjue fumbles his phone out of his pocket.
“Da-ge,” Nie Huaisang greets him warmly and Nie Mingjue looks to Jiang Cheng for strength.
“Di-di, listen,” he starts with and Nie Huaisang goes quiet on the other end.
“What have you done?” he then demands and Nie Mingjue cringes.
“Huaisang, Mingjue and I have been married for two and a half years now,” Jiang Cheng says when it becomes apparent that Nie Mingjue is not going to say anything.
“Nie Mingjue,” Nie Huaisang says and Nie Mingjue flinches. “You fucking asshole,” he says and Nie Mingjue’s face falls. “I am so happy for you, but you fucking suck,” Nie Huaisang says. “You will allow me to throw a party for you and I will not hear any complaints.”
Nie Mingjue and Jiang Cheng share a look and Jiang Cheng nods.
“Of course, di-di,” Nie Mingjue agrees.
“Huaisang, please don’t be mad,” Jiang Cheng adds and Nie Huaisang huffs.
“Of course I am mad. I have been planning your marriage for two years now and now you just tell me it’s already all done? That’s so rude. I mean, I truly am so happy for you, no questions asked, but I had the party and everything planned. You just ruined that for me and I am going to be a little bit mad for a while longer.”
“You can still do a party for us,” Nie Mingjue says and Nie Huaisang sighs.
“I know da-ge, and I will. Be prepared for the party of the century,” he threatens and then promptly hangs up.
“He’s not that mad,” Jiang Cheng reassures Nie Mingjue. “He called you da-ge, he can’t be that mad.”
“True,” Nie Mingjue says with a nod and then they both startle when Jiang Yanli clears her throat.
They both turn towards the table again and when they are met with equally threatening smiles from Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng reaches for Nie Mingjue’s hand, who meets him halfway.
This is going to be a long lunch.
