Tell one incident which broke your trust with your best friend.
See, you are tired of being cheated time and time again. It’s not always your enemies trying to harm you. It’s your own people though. Stop trusting people. I vividly remember the day I moved to a new city from my hometown. I placed my trust in a friend who promised to support me as my parents remained in my hometown, leaving me alone in the new city.
I arrived feeling distraught after facing numerous arguments with my parents about my decision to move. There were other reasons too. I longed for someone to confide in about the turmoil in my mind. Who better than my friend to share my burdens with at that moment?
On my very first day in new city, I confided in her about my reasons for coming, my sadness, and everything else that was troubling me. She was my close friend, so I trusted her completely. By the end of that day, she knew a secret that was meant to stay hidden.
However, as the saying, best friends have other best friends. Sharing your secrets even with your best friend means you’re essentially telling the whole world. The very next day, she divulged every detail to someone unknown to me but close to her, despite promising the night before to keep it all in confidence. This incident taught me never to trust anyone.
My dad always used to tell me since childhood, “never trust anyone, not even your dad,” but I used to take his words lightly back then. I can see the result now. We used to be best friends, and now we’re not even friends. We don’t speak anymore, primarily because I had a falling out with her after that incident. I learned a valuable lesson, and she lost a friend, me included.
However, I don’t regret it because I live by the simple rule that “it’s better to be alone than to be with toxic friends.” So, always strive to keep your secrets secret, as friends can be the worst enemies. I’m not saying all friends are the same, but they’re not all different either, as they often have other best friends or someone else with whom they share everything. This was the reason my trust in my friend was shattered.
Trust is like a broken thread – once broken, it can never be joined back together. It takes years to gain trust and only seconds to break it.
Yet you trust every friend who enters your life. Your good habits and best intentions are making you vulnerable.
Listen apart from your parents and teachers, no one wants you to succeed. It’s true – all other people are only around for selfish reasons. The day their purpose is fulfilled, they will leave. No one will be loyal to you. Stop trusting others and rely heavily on yourself.

I have been bullied, outright bullied, I say, into finally watching Interview with the Vampire. Apparently Delhi boy Arun is the way to persuade me over my gore squick.
So three years late and several hours after the train has passed - my episode by episode live-blog. (These will probably be shallow reactions because I know all the meaty meta and analysis has already been written. I remember reading it back when I was an innocent parasocial of your gifsets.) Also, I am coming into this with a series of biases; I've been completely spoiled by way of seeing gifs, reading meta and going through the book summaries. This is also not my genre; I don't enjoy gothic or horror, I was never into the vampire mystique, and I learned vampire lore via Buffy and Angel fandoms back when. So I am predisposed to watch this for the specific angle of how to intersect with my friends' interest in the characters. Disclaimers out of the way...
Season 1 Episode 1 - Mmmm, I see what people say about the art direction. This is a very very beautiful show. Very deliberately staged historicity, very artfully selected colour palattes and design. I imagine watching it on a big TV would be rewarding (I'm on a laptop.) But actually, more than the quality of the design, I think what I am enjoying is the quality of the actors. Because I have been forewarned, I realise all the cast is serious scenery chewing theatre rats. But the energy they bring to their scene work is palpable even through the screen.
Louis for instance, is oddly not beautiful. I can think of several other actors who would look far more physically arresting. To be frank, I don't see what Lestat saw in him, that moment did not have an impact on me. But what Louis is, because of Jacob, is intensely watchable. He brings such commitment to the character that my admiration for the actor translates into sympathy for the character. And of course, the Theatre Voice. Absolutely A+ choice to choose Shakespeare trained actors to deliver what I imagine must be quotes from Anne Rice's original florid prose?
It's a dangerous risk to use that sort of of heightened textual narration, which can work on a page, to sit against the visuals we are already seeing. I remember how Good Omens season 1 did so much quoting from the book to disasterously flat effect. But it works here, and that is, I think, because Jacob delivers the lines with so much integrity to bringing us back to the Dubai penthouse as we watch the New Orleans scenes.
I really enjoyed Daniel Molloy, who I remember finding rather delightful in the gifs even before we all knew his importance and where he was headed. I love grumpy irascible characters and he's lovely at being surly and sardonic. And physically deteriorating and mundane and ordinary, which makes him such a good foil to -
my precious little murderboy Armand! I really do want to watch things unspoiled, so I carry some regret about going into this so very equipped with hindsight. But I did giggle as the very first vampiric contact we see is a cup of tea being placed by Unnamed Brown Guy hand in front of Daniel. That's the love of your life, dude! Give or take a few divorces and deaths. I was watching Assad very closely to see what choices he was making - if there were any clues to pick up on. He was pretty stoic during the hand burning.
But that silent service thing going on - that's definitely something that packs more of a punch if you imagine him learning that from childhood as a human. I've got all kinds of headcanons going on for him, which I've been discussing with @quark4561 and I think his backstory can be a heartbreaking foil to Louis's, in terms of service, and sex work, and segregation.
Speaking of race, I know much of the fandom adores Lestat, but I thought the great thing about casting Sam Reid, is that he isn't the kind of drop dead gorgeous version that Tom Cruise might have been (never seen the film) and so he comes across right from the very beginning as ordinary except for the priviledge of his power. We know already that his power is vampirism, but because of the casting choices, it also becomes the power of whiteness. Lestat isn't some idealised homosexual awakening for Louis, or at least, that wasn't the way I read it. Lestat uses money, whiteness, physical force and vampirical power to get to Louis, and that sets their relationship on a dark, abusive path from the get-go.
In contrast to this was Louis's relationship to Lily. I loved her and the gentleness of their bond. The needless cruelty of Lestat killing her (thankfully offstage, I do not need to see Black women murdered any more), hammers in that this is a person who is selfish and cruel (beyond the ordinary carnivorous murders that one expects of the vampiric genre).
I'm not sure I understood why Louis's brother killed himself. Were we supposed to believe Lestat fucked with his mind? Were the voices he heard a sign of suicidal delusions?
But seeing both of them hoofing together - and I am so glad we didn't see Lestat lurking about then, it was a Black wedding and needed to be closed to the community - was so moving. It made me feel Louis' love for Paul more than his monologue narration. I'm not Black or USAmerican, but I did feel that the Black experience of these characters was respected and integrated into the storytelling choices, from writing to casting to design to cinematography, in a way that really worked for me.
I'm looking forward to spending time with Louis and his assistant, and the grumpy old fart interviewing them.

Fragments of the Buddhist monastery at Miran (Xinjiang) 3rd-5th C. CE by Titasa (Tita/Titus?) & other unknown artists. More images (and sources) on my blog, link at bottom.
I'm not 100% sure what nations the people in the photos belong to. They lived in Loulan (aka Kroraina). They used the Indo-European Gandhari language in their writing. They wrote in Kharosthi script which was also (at least partially) used by the Saka of Khotan, Kushan Empire, Sogdians, and Bactrians. Some suspect the artist (or one of the artists) may have been a traveler from the Roman Empire because of his art style and the name "Titasa".
"The Miran murals, now housed in the National Museum of New Delhi, are too delicate to travel (see frontispiece) but Stein found thousands of other items at the many desert ruins at the ancient town of Cadota, north of present-day Niya. These included Gandhari documents in Kharosthi script (cats. 27, 40, 44, 45, 46, 47) 74, 75, 76, 77, 89, 141): administrative records, letters and legal documents, some sent by the king of Kroraina to the ruler of Cadota. They offer a unique glimpse into the concerns of these oasis settlements, especially when placed in context of the archaeology. Stein explains how the sites had been abandoned over time and thus cleared of any items of intrinsic value, but ‘...the manifold other relics, however humble, which had safely rested in the sand buried dwellings and their deposits of rubbish... all help to bring vividly before our eyes details of ancient civilisation that without the preserving force of the desert would have been lost for ever.'
Miran, Cadota and the other towns of Kroraina seem to have been largely deserted by the fifth century. Defeated by the Northern Wei in 445 and with a warming climate making the route through the Lop Desert to Dunhuang no longer viable, people started moved out. The irrigation canals silted up and the dwindling population was unable to provide enough labour to continue to make the land sustainable.
Although not an ocean of emptiness, the analogy of an ocean for this area is a useful one.” The peoples and cultures moved like currents some, like the Gulf Stream, travelling great distances while retaining distinct characteristics, influencing the lands they passed by. Others were merged into more powerful currents, or soon settled on the ocean floor to nourish local cultures. The Yuezhi/ Kushan and the Xiongnu were examples of the first — powerful swirling currents whose origins and many sub-currents are difficult to map. The Hephthalites, who controlled Khotan, Kroraina and Gaochang as well as Gandhara and Northern India by the fifth century, were another powerful current. They exemplify the difficulties of Central Asian scholarship. Even though they ruled a considerable area for over two centuries, had their own language and script and minted their own coins, historians are still trying to piece together a coherent pictures of the nature of the people, their language, social structure, beliefs and art."

DAY 5517
Jalsa, Mumbai               Mar 25/26,  2023                Sat/Sun  8:38 AM
★ ☆ ★ ☆ ✿ ★ * ☆ ♡ ★ ✿ * ★ * ☆ ★ * ☆✿ * * ♡ ★ ★ * * ♡ ★ 🪔 .. March 26th is the birthday of Ef Maryam Roustaeiyanpour from Iran 🇮🇷 .. and we wish her a happy one .. long time no see .. but ever remembered , specially her wonderful works of art she used to display on the Blog .. love and we hope you're well and safe ..
the night of the writing of the Blog missed .. wanted the Chat GPT to give an example of how it can devise the secretarial concept for the B , but did not attempt it .. so was intertwined with dragons and their fire power ..
the injuries heal slowly and today hope the effort is enough to climb the board and wave to the well wishers at the GATE .. being away from them that have such sincerity with them is not approved in any manner .. the life and the breath of the well wisher is supreme .. they live so I live ..
gratitude in abundance to the ‘comments’ on the Discus at the bottom of the B .. and the desire to attempt to reply all .. but having started that thought long ago in the early stages of the B, it gradually became difficult and time consuming .. so .. kept away ..
a few that get response i give .. nothing partial or remotely sectioned off .. but in an earnest desire to be with all in all .. your comments prove the life of the B .. many say the numbers have fallen gradually .. but the will remains .. even if there is just 1 , it shall be accepted and loved .. 1 is enough ..
there is merit in the early meal .. early bed .. and early rise ..
the energy stumbles out of its lethargic manifestation and wallops the back to get up and go .. get up and go the tag line of the City of Mumbai .. no matter what it pushes one to its extreme , each hour .. the City is blessed .. it provides .. it does not disappoint .. it takes its time for reward .. but it does ..
there was in the 50′s and the 60′s an Air India Ad, by Bobby K of their advertising management and which I encountered each day on my way to Univ ., at a strategic wall in Connaught Place, Delhi .. now with changed name with Rajiv .. the Rajiv Chowk .. which said , and it was so subtle and good ..
“ there is an air about India “
brilliant ..
there should be one for the City of Mumbai  .. wonder if we can devise something equally subtle and smart and relatable ..
something beyond ‘amchi mumbai ‘
adieu  .. time to breathe .. with the ‘pran....’

EPISODE 15- THE URBAN OASIS OF LODHI GARDEN
Thank you for your extensive adoration and support towards the last blog, you people are legends! So after a long time, I am back with another one of my escapades in this city replenished with purposes. So let's start, with the full moon smiling in the open sky and the air filled with dreams, I started my journey towards the Lodhi Garden when I took the turn towards the Lodhi art district I saw this charmer:
Tumblr media
I couldn't comprehend the beauty of the graffiti. It was so beautiful and out of the world! I stood there for a gleam to believe that the art was not real. I feared that it might jump on me at any moment. I somehow bought my mind out of the portrait and moved towards the gate of Lodhi garden. As I moved inside I was greeted with these gorgeous flowers.
Tumblr media
Ohh, the stunning beauty of the pink Bougainvillea was remarking the commencement of summer. Thrilled by this site I moved forward just to catch a glimpse of one of the best animal interactions of my life.
Tumblr media
I met my friend Donald Duck! out exploring Lodhi garden with his friends and family! I followed them for a moment and they left me at a big stone house as I veered around I read the board which said The Tomb of Sikandar Lodi. I got thrilled by this sign and proceeded inside just to enter a different world. As I entered the main chamber a hoard of bats chased me out of the place and I ran for my life. Fighting the bats I ended up clicking this picture from the top of the tomb.
Tumblr media
After this strange interaction, I moved forward to exploring the loveliness of the garden where many of the most powerful people in the country come for a walk as it was very near to the ministry. After passing through a scenic lake I saw one of the most captivating monuments at the center of the garden.
Tumblr media
The vibe of the place was so vibrant and beautiful that I began wondering what the place might have been at the time it was built. I moved forward and looked at the broken blue marble which was attached to the ends of the monuments I was pretty sure that these were imported from some other country. I hauled and saw one of the most carved mosques I had ever seen.
Tumblr media
I can tell that the mosque was one of a kind and aesthetically pleasing. I questioned whether the site I was seeing was real or a work of my fantasies. To make myself believe I moved forward.
Tumblr media
Oh my, the Arabic carvings were telling a new tale about the environment. I wondered how precise one might have to be to do such a kind of work. Sadly I wasn't able to find any translation of the texts :(
Tumblr media
(the inside beauty of the mosque)
Half-heartedly I returned to my home still thinking about the glamour of the place I researched about the place. Here are some of my findings. Lodhi Gardens trace their history back to 1444 when the tomb of Mohammed Shah, a Sayyid Dynasty ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, was erected here by his son and the last ruler of the dynasty, Ala-ud-din Alam Shah. Another significant tomb located in the area is that of Sikander Lodi from the Lodi Dynasty, which was built in 1517 by his son Ibrahim Lodi.
Tumblr media
It covers an area of over 90 acres and houses many 15th-century structures that display spectacular architectural beauty. The mausoleum of Mohammed Shah features Islamic and Hindu architectural styles. Designed with eight small domed structures or chattris, each adorned with a lotus finial, ornate pinnacles at the corners, a huge central dome, and an octagonal chamber, the tomb is a sight to behold.

Here is a small video about my journey exploring the urban oasis of the lodhi garden.

Until next time
