so of the romances, i honestly could not choose. Arthur is such a sweetheart, and i have a soft spot for kind people. but Evaine man. something about them being mysterious...and the way they invited me to spar with them STOP i was giggling. there is a poly route for the two of them so i just might do that, to be honest. i also loved Yniol a whole lot. again...kind people. as for my hound, i was leaning on the "intimidating" side of it, while being compassionate. i picked the options that i would do realistically!!

Hi, dear! You're totally free to ignore this ask but If you care to bear with me for a while, I was wondering how would your TBoC characters interact with mine in @the-kingshound (specifically Arthur).

Regardless, I feel like every TKH MC would like to rip Lance to pieces for the way he treats Mordred, my Arthur would kindly roast Merlin and they would also find Accolon a very pleasant person to say the least.

The feeling would be mutual for Accolon! And I think in general he'd be very happy to befriend the cast of TKH.

My Arthur would also try to befriend yours. He'd be kinda nervous and extra polite in the beginning, but I think he'd easily relax around him and enjoy talking about ruling and other stuff.

I uh, I don't know how your Arthur would feel about Morgana 👀 but supposing they don't know the extent of her actions, they could potentially bond over how awful their respective Uther had been to them?

Morgana would try to get close to Gwyar because, well, the one who knows secrets holds the power 👀 But she might actually end up enjoying their company, given they're open to having her around.

Galahad would be nice/polite to everyone tho there is the possibility he might come off a bit aloof, since he's not very talkative and doesn't smile that much.

Galahad could benefit from having a friend like Evaine tho (obviously he has Gawain and Elaine who always have his best intentions at heart and try to help him, but it never hurts to have more people like that!), if they were willing to befriend Galahad.

Gawain just wants to befriend everyone! (including Morien, new grumpy friend to make!)

Similarly, Elaine just wants to get along with everyone. Both Elaine and Galahad would be open to training/sparring with Yniol and Evaine, since they consider this a way of bonding and learning more about the other person.

Sophie would love to sit down and talk with your Arthur, especially about ruling and what vision each of them have. Could also see her making an effort to get along with everyone else.

I think befriending your ros would be very healing for Agravain!

Nimue mostly keeps to herself, unless approached, and usually approaches people with an interest/motive in mind, but she's open to any of the ros befriending her.

Considering the Hound vs Camelot ask

Because the angst isn’t over yet.

How do the poly’s feel about the others choice?

Would they fight on it?👀

Arthur/Evaine: it would be an agonising confrontation, I could see this go either way depending on a lot of factors. In a possible scenario, Evaine would convince Arthur to choose MC as Arthur already is tearing himself apart over it. Evaine's pleas would convince him to go for MC.

In another, both Arthur and Evaine would be torn apart by grief and pain, but would let MC go if MC was the one to push both to choose Camelot.

As for their reaction to each other's choice: Evaine wouldn't be angry with Arthur for choosing Camelot over MC, but would be angry at whoever forced him to choose. Because Evaine know Arthur can't live with that choice. And of course Arthur would never hold against Evaine choosing MC over Camelot.

Arthur/Gwyar: Gwyar would very clearly want to choose MC, and upon Arthur's painful admission that they can't, that Camelot would be destroyed, Gwyar would be filled with desperation, morphing into anger. Why does it have to be them? It isn't fair!

Only if MC expressed their desperation for them to choose Camelot they would do so. And that decision would not only destroy them both, but their relationship as well. Because Gwyar couldn't bear to stay in Camelot or even look at Arthur. To be reminded of how they both sacrificed MC. Gwyar would leave, and Arthur would break.

As for their reaction if only one had made the choice: I think Arthur wouldn't hold anything against Gwyar either way. He would only be devastated to have lost Camelot. And Gwyar would, again, leave but not be angry at Arthur (instead, reassuring him that it wasn't his fault. That Gwyar just needs to be away for a bit).

Yniol/Morien: in a poly, Yniol would fold to Morien's reasoning and they would collectively end up choosing MC.

About their reactions if they learned of the choice made by the other: Yniol is not someone who lives with regrets. They accept the past and do their best to live with the consequences, so they would not feel resentment towards Morien even for a second. Morien, on the other hand, would completely lose it upon learning MC is gone for Camelot. They would not be angry at Yniol (even though is may sometimes seem that way), but they would fall in a self destructive spiral because it's not right. MC had already given too much.

Gwyar/Morien: they would choose MC most of the time, even if Gwyar would be devastated to lose Camelot. The only instance in which they would fight is if MC specifically asked them to save Camelot instead. Because in that case Gwyar would want to respect MC's wishes (Gwyar think this is after all, their choice more than anyone else to make) while Morien would call MC a self sacrificing selfish bastard and would want to save the Hound regardless. In either case, if they decided to save MC or not, Gwyar and Morien's relationship would never recover.

As for their reaction to each other's decision: both would have sacrificed Camelot, so they would not have so much to argue. But Morien would be very insistent in telling Gwyar that MC was more than worth the sacrifice while Gwyar would resent Morien a bit for their lack of care for Camelot as a whole.

Peter Pan: Morien— I find the differences very intriguing. Especially with Peter being a pillar of strength and harmony already. He would never want to let them fall down (not while he can help it). He’d always be there for them if they allowed him to be. Always.

James/Jasmine: Evaine (obviously), I can see them both being exactly what the other person needs. A shoulder to lean on. An anchor in the tumultuous sea that has been their lives. With a type of humor only the other could get (they’d understand one another completely).

Tinkerbell: Yniol. Two gentle beans? Both being protective? Sign me up. I adore the thought of them being together or Yniol carrying Tink (in her fairy form) in their pocket for safe keeping. A pairing that would always have each other’s back.

Lyra: Arthur… mainly because I find the idea hilarious. But I also think that they’d be great together. Lyra would offer a lightheartedness that I think Arthur needs.

Hunter: Gwyar, I can see Hunter being drawn to their gentle nature. The warmth that they always exude but he wouldn’t want to let his guard down too much. That’s something Gwyar would have to work at first.

High Noon Over Camelot Family Tree

I recently put together a family tree for all of the named characters in High Noon Over Camelot, drawing from the Arthurian Mythos. As you can see, it creates a lot of soap-opera like opportunities to write fanfiction for, which you’re all welcome to use my tree as a basis. And in true Mechanisms fashion, feel free to genderbent as many characters as you’d like. I kept the genders each character had in the original myths just to limit the number of creative decisions I’d have to make. Under the cut I have close-ups of each individual family and I explain my thought process behind a lot of my decisions. This is also supposed to be a non-conclusive family tree, so don’t feel bad adding extra siblings if you base a fic on my tree.

But, first the key. I separated biological and adopted children just so I could demonstrate all of their parents. That way, Mordred would be connected to both Aurthur and Morgan. I also used m., which usually stands in for married, because trying to depict a three way polycule in a traditional family tree is basically impossible. I only included unknown parents in the case where only one parent is known, usually the mother, because old-timey genealogies are like that.

I turned the titles people had in the mythos into either cities they were sheriffs of, or gangs they led.

The GRAIL Dynasty

The Grail Dynasty was a concept in the original mythos, giving the descendants of Joseph of Arimathea a magical chosen-oneness to it. I’ve decided to keep the concept, but continuing HNOC’s themes, it means nothing. The cousins, Galahad and Percival are shot down by the defensive turrets.

The Corbenics are a gang named after the Fisher King’s castle. Fulfilling his role as “Lancelot but cooler”, Galahad was Lancelot’s unknown son by the Fisher King’s (Pelles) daughter, Elaine of Corbenic. But it felt weird putting Galahad in Morded’s generation, instead of Arthur’s. But since Elaine of Corbenic has so many alternate names, I just chose two of them- Amite and Perevida, to be Galahad’s two moms. A traveling gunslinger, Perevida impressed her father-in-law, and received the mantle of leadership from Pelles, which his two daughters had no interest in. Either Amite or Perevida is trans, or Galahad is actually adopted by them.

Pelles’ other daughter, Pellinore, from “Pellinore and the Beast”, is the mother of Percival, one of the knights mentioned as being on the GRAIL quest, and died charging the gun turrets.

Pendragon (Family Name)

(The tree specifies family name, because the gang Arthur led before becoming sheriff was also called the Pendragons.)

Arthur’s father, Uther, is the Sheriff of Britannia. I Will Rule this Town is unclear if Uther was once the sheriff of Camelot, but it seems pretty heavily implied he ruled something. So I gave him another town to rule, which fell apart when the Lady of the Lake seized the water supplies.

Because Mordred was originally Arthur’s nephew (and Morgause his mother), that generation collapsed. Ygraine is already established to be Mordred’s biological mother. Anna is an alternate name for Ygraine, so that’s who I made Arthur’s mother.

Saxons

And so onto a limited Saxon family tree. This information comes from The Wake. We know Uren is Ywan’s father, although Garet’s father is unknown. But since Lot is a known mate of Morgan, I just took the simplest route. King Lot and King Uren are Arthurian Mythos characters, but they connect to the wider family tree. It doesn’t seem like the Saxons and Britons (surface-dwellers) would have intermarried that much, so I didn’t give Lot and Uren a parentage. 

Tintagel 

Before she bore Arthur’s child, Ygraine was the wife of Gorlois Tintagel, with whom she had Gawain (hence why Mordred calls Gawain brother in “Peacemaker”). I’m just going to ignore all the stuff about how Uthur got Ygraine as his wife from Gorlois, because it’s very Dark Ages. But to keep Uther’s vassal of Gorlois in the story, when he led the gang, the Cornwall Gang was an ally of Uther’s, as Britiania began to fall. Gorlois of Tintagel was the Duke of Cornwall, but the mythos has another king identified with ruling Cornwall.

Cameliard

Leodegrance, the King of Cameliard is identified by modern scholars as ruling Cornwall. Now the generation switch regarding Ygraine likely switched the order of succession, Golrois usurping Leodegrance as the leader of the Cornwall Gang is consistent with the precarious position Guinevere and her brother find themselves in The Fastest Shot. While present in the story, Gote isn’t an actual mythos character. Guinevere does have the sister Gwenhwyfach (no one ever got around to un-Welshing her name), but since she doesn’t appear in Fastest Shot, I didn’t include her. But it would be possible for an author to get her out of the way before that story takes place.

When Leodegrance ruled the Cornwall Gang, it was still an ally of Uther and Britiania, although Uther didn’t intervene in Gorlois’ usurpation.

Wales Sector Alliance

This strangely intermarried family is called the Wales Sector Alliance because the kingdoms of Gaunnes and Benwick are likely both corruptions of Welsh Kingdoms. Ban was the Sheriff of Benwick, while his brother, Bors the Elder led the Gaunnes- a group of bandits responsible for protecting Benwick. Their marriage to the sisters Elaine and Evaine probably did something to secure their power in the region. 

Unfortunately, the alliance was overrun by Claudas’ Frankish bandits, but Ban’s son Lancelot and Bors’ sons Bors the Younger and Lionel were found and adopted by the Lady of the Lake after the death of their parents.

Wards of the Lady of the Lake

Likely in addition to other orphans the Lady of the Lake found, Lancelot Bors the Younger and Lionel were raised and mentored by the mysterious bandit Queen (as in the mythos). Thankfully, Lancelot and his adoptive brothers/cousins reached adulthood and set off on their own paths before Arthur killed The Lady. That would be a pretty awkward conversation to have, so I think Lancelot probably doesn’t know which specific bandit his lover got his .x calibre railgun from.

And just like Galahad losing his cousin Percival, Lancelot also lost his brother/cousin Bors in the GRAIL quest, some nice extra tragedy for people to work with. The Mechanisms just didn’t have the time to depict their reactions.

The Stone Clan

Other than the Sword in the Stone reference, I couldn’t find anything in the Arthurian Mythos that Lavinia was based on. So I arranged the members of the Stone Clan on a whim. It’s basically an insert, so I didn’t have to align it with the generation rows of the rest of the tree. 

There is a Lavinia in the Aeneid, as one of Aeneas’ wives, so I made one of her husbands Aeneas. I do have a headcanon connecting HNOC and UDAD, but this isn’t a place. And even under it, this still isn’t the Aeneas (just as all her kids aren’t the biblical characters they’re named after).
