a few weeks ago I was practicing ASL with my teacher, and I learned the sign for cold/winter. I didn't think much of it, but later I was happy stimming and WAIT-

my happy stim is the sign for cold. I will never be able to unthink this.

plus, its a fairly common stim. Does my teacher think "cold" or "winter" when she sees me??? Am i perpetually freezing in her mind??

As a HOH autistic person I just have to say I find so much comfort in the silence. Hearing aids are nice because I can hear people better I guess and it's kind of nice to be able to see what I'm missing out on, but I also hate wearing them because there is So much noise, so many noises going on at once and it can be so overwhelming. It's so nice to be able to turn them off and experience near silence, for the cars passing me on the road to be muffled and a walk through nature or the neighborhood be quiet and peaceful. Honestly I wish I didn't have to communicate verbally all the time, I wish more people used sign language because hearing multiple people talk at once is a Lot and being expected to respond when multiple people are talking is a lot. I like having the ability to just tune the background noise out.

back with more house autism moments lets go

- when he has meltdowns or gets overstimulated he locks himself in his office with all the lights off and just throws his ball against the wall over and over again. the only person who knows and can tell when he's hurtling over the edge is wilson, and sometimes wilson lets him curl up on his couch with one of wilson's jackets over his head and wilson just quietly does work on his computer so house can listen to him breathing

- house has so so many stim toys because he actively destroys them by accident. he prefers stuff he can spin or manipulate the pieces of (and obvs his ball) but he has to keep such a surplus because he will fucking ruin them or lose them in a moment of stress

- he also uses his gameboy to stim, he's played all of his games so many times he barely has to think about it and having his hands moving keeps his mind straight

- when house is overstimulated or having a meltdown he is dead silent. he was trained into being "normal" by all the ppl in his early life so he just shuts down entirely except for scratching himself or digging his nails into his skin. it took wilson time to recognize this as him melting down but now wilson can recognize the look in his eyes nearly instantly

- house learned asl and forces wilson to learn some too so they can a) talk across the balcony and b) communicate when he's non verbal. he often uses asl to cause fucking PROBLEMS for wilson

- @greghatecrimes posted a bunch of good autistic thirteen stuff and i'm shamelessly piggybacking off of them to say that thirteen learns asl too and then they shit talk the other fellows in front of them. the main purpose was for talking when one of them was nonverbal but then

- house alternates between no eye contact and aggressively too much eye contact. it depends on how he feels but he is unashamed of either. he will kubrick stare you to death

- house uses elaborate metaphors that make sense to no one because idioms and metaphors ALREADY dont make sense to him so why not make up his own

- house's office is meticulously arranged and he can tell if something is different the Minute he comes in. he can also tell with wilson's office

- the reason house doesnt go to department head meetings is because he gets very understimulated and starts acting up! he hates sitting and having to listen and not being able to do any of his stims and he decided its just not worth it

- house is very hypersensitive to smells. hospital smells dont bother him because theyre Familiar but if someone wears too strong cologne or if he's near a candle its all he can think abt

Notes -> mentions of harmful stimming, also autistic little Lottie is very much just autistic little adi, so. Yeah. If this feels wildly self indulgent, it is.

- Lottie looses all ability to mask when she regresses. She’s just so tiny and it’s too hard to remember how she’s supposed to act and what she’s supposed to say.

- She often struggles with understanding what her body is trying to tell her and listening to it. Because of this, she can’t really figure out when she’s tired, hungry or needs the bathroom. Because of this she really just lets her cg take complete care of her, though sometimes she feels a little guilty for it.

- She has a schedule for changes, feeds and naps which she sticks to rigidly.

- She’s padded when she’s regressed, regardless of how little she is (though usually she regresses into babyspace). She struggles to tell anyone when she needs a change because she has a hard time talking, so it’s on her cg to check in with her.

- She’s non speaking when she’s regressed. Not masking, means she doesn’t really feel the need to force herself to speak and usually she’s regressed so small anyway words are just too hard. A lot of the other little Yellowjackets who struggle with words have established a form of sign language loosely based of asl. Lottie usually feels too small even for that, though sometimes she can do signs like mama or change if she really needs to.

- She’s very attached to her pacifiers. She almost always has one in her mouth. She can be a little spacey when she’s little (and let’s be honest, when she’s big too) and will often just drop it out of her mouth if she gets distracted. So it’s important that she has it on a clip attached to her shirt so it doesn’t go missing.

- Her special interest is in flowers!! She loves flowers. They have a big flower garden in their backyard and Lottie finds so much peace just sitting amongst them. In particularly good days Lottie will babble facts about flowers very quietly to herself.

- She really struggles with hyper empathy. Sometimes one of the cgs will find her sitting in the playroom just crying and it takes a lot of investigating to find out she’s crying because Jackie snatched a toy from Melissa and Mel looked sad about it. They have to be really particular about what Lottie is allowed to watch, because sometimes shows that include lots of fighting will just cause her to sob uncontrollably.

- She struggles to understand physical boundaries. She always wants to be held and cuddled and curled up in someone’s lap. If she can’t get that, she’ll push her body into someone or shove them or if she’s really overwhelmed by her need for contact she’ll hit. She never means to hurt them, she just needs touch so badly. She has a weighted blanket which soothes this craving pretty well.

- After a meltdown Nat will always settle Lottie on the couch in her arms with her weighted blanket and a flower documentary on the tv.

- Even though she’s taller than most of the others, she can be very insistent on being carried. She clings on like a monkey.

- She’s so big on rocking, it’s her favourite stim ever. Humming and whistling too, which sometimes cause Jackie to snap because the sound is overwhelming to her. Lottie always feels bad when this happens. Sometimes her stims can be a bit harmful, she’ll hit her head or scratch at her arms if she’s super spooked by something.

- She is big on hiding in small spaces. She can always find new spots to hide that are small and safe because the pressure is calming

- She’s super particular about food. That’s not to say her tastebuds are bland though. She’ll put any two safe foods together and call it a meal. Olives and raspberries? That’s probably great and she will be eating it. But not safe foods can’t touch.

- Bambi is her favourite movie and she will recite the whole thing. Lottie hasn’t spoken in days? Put on Bambi and she won’t stop talking.

- Sometimes her brain really scares her and she’ll lash out with violent and messy meltdowns.

- She always wants to help her friends, but sometimes when she’s really small she doesn’t know how! She’ll usually just dump all her stuffies on their lap.

- She has a blankie she’s had since childhood that she carries around with her everywhere. It has a silky rim and she rubs the corner against her cheek when she’s overwhelmed.

- She’s the only one of the yjs who needs a baby monitor. She has to have it turned on at bed time when she’s little and the other end usually stays in Tai and Van or Nat’s room, depending on who’s feeling big at the time. She needs it because she can be a bit of a handful at night. She hates sleeping alone and almost always ends up in someone else’s bed, if she’s alone she’ll just lay and cry which can be hard to hear from some sorts of the house. She also has bars on her bed like a crib so she can’t just go get someone if somethings wrong.

- She has bars on her bed because she’s a bit of a wanderer. She’ll wake up in the middle of the night and just walk about the house. She’s often found sleeping in the kitchen, or curled up at someone’s door. A few times she was too small and sleepy and fell down the stairs which is why she’s got the bars.

- She loves her bottles!! It’s very calming for her and will always soothe her if she’s overstimulated and upset.

- She exclusively wears dresses (for twirling in) or pajamas (for sleeping in)

- She gets really scared sometimes that she can’t control herself. She’s small, she’s unmasked and sometimes she has really scary thoughts!! She feels like she has no control over any of this which always leads to a meltdown and she needs a lot of comfort after.

Soyona x Handler headcanons

(lets all ignore like. all of the canon events because The Handler Is Not Dead Guys)

Soyona is the only one who knows the Handler’s real name (since i’m gatekeeping my headcanon for her real name from you i’ll just refer to the handler as H)

they got together after a few hookups and realised they actually like each other romantically

Soyona is very protective of H. like. very. you hurt her and Soyona is sicing a dinosaur onto you

H is the only person alive who has seen Soyona in something that is not a suit

H is always cold, and Soyona is always warm, so H just clings onto her when she’s cold

H is low masking autistic, Soyona is high masking autistic (Soyona only realised she was autistic from being around H so much and was like. oh hey we’re pretty similar. oh)

H stims by chewing her fingers, or stroking her raptors or any part of Soyona. Soyona would be in an important video call and H would be holding her hand under the table and stroking her sleeve. Soyona secretly loves it.

H has selective mutism and only speaks to Soyona occasionally; usually H uses sign language (ASL most likely since they’re american iirc)

Soyona speaks Nepali, and H learned a bit (written, because the script is fucking gorgeous)

Soyona is also fluent in Spanish, and H can understand Spanish pretty well

on the other hand, H is fluent in German, and Soyona has tried to learn it but cannot get her head around it

they’re both really needy but they don’t realise until they’re apart for a while and missing each other

H has a tattoo of her raptors on her back, and Soyona secretly thinks it’s cute

Brooklynn once walked in on them doing it and both of them threatened her to never tell anyone ever (she definitely told the Nublar Six just as petty revenge) (Soyona and H are both out as queer, it was their relationship Brooklynn was outing)

H often growls and purrs like a raptor. Soyona secretly loves the sound; it’s like white noise

Soyona can sort of pick up on emotions through H and her raptors’ growls, clicks and other noises, but she can’t understand the raptors like H can

H’s raptors will usually wake Soyona and H up for feeding at 6am but they can do it earlier. Soyona refuses to get up to feed them unless H is unable to or is sick

the one time H was sick when they were dating, Soyona fed the raptors, and they left her a bit of raw meat to say thank you. Soyona was so disgusted.

after that Soyona and the raptors got on a bit better

Soyona has several paintings of H (she would paint H’s raptors if they would stay still for longer than five minutes)

H is noise sensitive, and if there’s a sudden loud sound, Soyona reflexively covers H’s ears for her

H’s raptors understand sign language, which really freaks Soyona out when she realises they can understand her when she’s not even speaking

Soyona likes to kiss H’s hair, H likes to kiss her jaw/neck

H bites. not in a k!nky way, more in an affectionate way. Soyona has to wear high collars a lot so people don’t notice the marks

H loves people lying on her. Soyona is like a weighted blanket to her.

wind down time at the end of the day usually involves ordering takeout (neither of them can cook to save their life) and watching a show

if the raptors fall asleep on H and Soyona’s bed before they do, H and Soyona sleep on the sofa

as many fanarts have suggested (@crisisensues) when Soyona and H nap together, the raptors join the cuddle pile at some point. Soyona is pissed but knows H loves them dearly so she doesn’t complain

what are your thoughts on Art with an autistic partner? I feel like he would be an A+ infodump listener

I totally agree with you!!! I hc that Art is also autistic and some of his mannerisms and quirks are stims. I think he would have fun mirroring his partner and would hold them in his lap and rock with them if they were a rocker (I’m a rocker so this is a super comfy thought for me…)

He would happily listen to any infodump be it five minutes or even five hours! The whole time theatrically reacting to what his partner told him. He never gets tired of hearing them talk and he loves how animated and excited they get when they talk about their special interests!!

Art shares some of his own special interests, such as collecting pebbles and teeth (I consider him having a whole library of stuff about teeth and jars full of them of all different colors and styles!) He enjoys sensory toys and time in a a play tent/sensory tent with his partner.

He’s also understanding of overstimulation, but it’s hard for him not to pout when he has to give his partner some space to decompress. He knows they will bounce back eventually but he doesn’t like it when he can’t gravitate around them. Sometimes the reader may have to cheer him up with extra snuggles to perk him back up.

I think part of why Art doesn’t speak is because he was mute as a human and the demon in him cannot harness the power of speech for this reason. Once the partner and Art learn some ASL together I imagine them having certain key signs such as when one of them needs to leave a crowded space/get out of a situation that is causing his partner to become stressed and overstimulated.

Overall I think it may take him a bit to pick up on everything but I think Art is more in tune with humans than it may seem because he is a predatory entity and being conscious of their emotions and mannerisms serves him well. In this instance it works out for the reader that they have a companion who can sense when they are becoming overwhelmed or distressed and is able to be there to support them 🖤
