jane: caught eating at chick-fil-a in someone's private story at 2 in the morning which also got her kicked out of theatre club for breaking the vegan pledge signed amongst the ensemble cast. is currently in shambles.

I ramble about: VR-LA’s Character Arc

I feel like I’m just saying loads of the obvious with this but I still wanna say it cause it’s in my head and won’t leave.

Anyway, heads up for mention of: Suicidal Ideation and Tendencies

VR-LA’s story starting from a place of absolute aloneness and even suicidal ideation, but ending with so many families, friends, and homes and a promise made in the maze of life to keep on going… It has me feeling things

He begins with nothing but flimsy phantom feelings from his past and his strengthening relationship with his friends keeping him stable. And, as seen with the Zuggtmoy madness and the despondency well, without them he ends up right back in that spiral. Right back in that trap of wondering it it would better to have not woken up on the ship.

Later, his isolation through his wish and utter dedication finding his old crew puts a slight wedge that relationship. His drive to find his past nearly breaks his present, and he ends up having to reconstruct both his bonds with them (though minorly) and his old crew. It’s the thing that leads him to try and leave his past in the past, and focus on what he has now. He tells Dani that when he dies it’ll be on this ship, that he isn’t going anywhere. He picks this life over the old one. That connection to his family and home that has kept him going, now stronger… but not yet healthy, not yet healed. The stubborn refusal to leave his past comminuted to be put to rest through season 4 now he’s learned how unhealthy it was to dwell on it. Killing Endellion, proclaiming to his old crew that the old him is gone, being willing to give up the ship to Dani. Being willing to give up and leave behind the home he once pledged to die on. All of that showing how his outlook has progressed from the Then, to the Now, setting up the lead in to the Later he comes to look forward to in season 5.

But at this point, VR-LA’s pledge to die on the ship is still standing, until all of sudden that declaration is thrown into question by his promise to Maxim. An unexpected moment, maybe considered quietly in the back of his mind for awhile, but now coming to a head at the wake up call that is Maxim’s constant refutes to VR-LA risking his life. Maybe it wasn’t fully true at the time, maybe it was part desperate ploy to win him over and part the first realisation that the future he had always thought inevitable didn’t have to be. Whatever it was, that first promise set him on the path to looking not just back, not just around, but forward.

An episode later, VR-LA is lost in the not so metaphorical maze of life. He knows his past and how he feels about it, he knows his present and all the new bonds he’s formed in this second life. But the question of what comes next looms before him, despite his gripes with what happened before, this is the major decision he faces. And it isn’t the death on the ship he always thought would come, the death he once considered accepting while adrift, but rather… life. What he finds and chooses at the end of the maze is a long life, well lived. The exact opposite of everything he thought he had always been moving toward.

I was not expecting to find a story about coming to heal from suicidal ideation in my silly autism robit but oh boy… oh fucking hell is it there.

AND THEN, how he literally ends the series with a proclamation that no longer is he going to “die on this ship” or “wonder if it would be better to not wake up”, but that he’s taking dying of old age a challenge. How he refuses anything less than that. How despite his new dangerous position, despite stepping up and not back, he is not looking for anything less than that future he found at the end of the maze.

VR-LA starts too focused on the past, moves on to trying to focus on his present, then eventually the future. And if that progression wasn’t good enough, by the end he manages to have them all. His memories and old crew, the crew of the Per Aspera and a life of adventure, his increasingly pivotal role as magister and his aim to grow old.

Like, when I first heard the silly “Hello! I am VR-LA :D” and “Will you be our captain?” robot, I was not expecting a story about overcoming suicidal tendencies and growing to accept and combine all aspects of yourself. Like, fucking hell WHY IS HE LIKE THIS HSJDBDKDBDKFB

It’s such a well done arc for an improv show, and yeah there’s the little awkward unclear points but overall it’s so fulfilling and complete, while leaving further room to settle and heal. Right from season one he proclaims it’s the fight against entropy that makes life worth living, and the the whole show he fights that fight with himself. He goes from someone willing, and perhaps even on some level wanting, to die, to someone actively fighting for the opposite. He goes from empty of will to live and memory to, in his own words, “overflowing”.

Anyway, I love this silly robot, he makes me feel too many things, and I can’t wait to see what new stories come to pass next campaign.

JESS ANGST SCHOOL ANGST COMPLEX TRAUMA ANGST

In Keg Max! Principal Merton tells Jess he has missed 31 days of school. Now that makes him a chronic truant for sure, it means he's missed more than 10% of the school year, the standard school year is 180 days. Let's say there's 10 days left in the school year.

That's a LOT of school to miss. Young people improbably here, do not miss that much school

But relative to what we're being told about Jess, it's a weirdly low number? Jess never goes to school!!!! He's working 10000 hours at Walmart instead of going to school no school never heard of him!

That means that Jess attended school 139 days. Most schools I've worked with define that as a certain number of hours attended, more than half the day. So even if he was skipping that's 139 days he went to more than half the day NOT GOOD AT ALL BUT

Even after he was eighteen (early in the school year) he still laced up his boots and showed up somewhere he hated at saw no point in going to WHY!!????

First of all this is actually a ridiculously overcommitted young person let's at least acknowledge that.

He works before school at Luke's, and he works in the evenings too, closing up at 11:30 in one episode. Not just filling coffee mugs anymore. By season 3 he's closing alone, keeping tabs on the delivery schedule and capable of (furiously) running the morning rush alone.

AND he's working 45 hours a week at Walmart doing physical work, AND (poorly) maintaining a romantic relationship, AND reading obsessively, AND YES GOING TO SCHOOL! Jess starts working at Walmart in November (if you treat the air date as the canon date with the show roughly does), combined with Luke's it's probably 60-65 hours a week and still went to school 139 days!

He's making ridiculous choices because he is a tiny little fool but also has a trauma soaked brain

Jess chooses to be maxed out every minute of his life because he cannot tolerate being unoccupied, like a lot of people with complex trauma (and ADHD and Autism and more all of which could apply to Jess but rn I am talking about complex trauma)

When someone is used to chaos in their environment they actually feel less safe when things are quiet and still. It leads to someone who needs to have their RAM at 100% every waking AND sleeping moment

So they work 65+ hours, go to school most days, and they

cannot relax without extreme stimulation AKA needing the music on to sleep

Walk while reading because walking and looking ahead isn't enough is not occupied enough need more occupied

and starts reading the second he's stops talking to someone or using his hands to do something else. Reading as default in any given second.

He reads compulsively, no matter how chaotic the environment.

Reading ALSO isn't enough must be annotating and analyzing too passive reading is NOT ENOUGH

So Jess would rather show up at school for 139 days where other people are moving around, where there are fights to get into and classes to move to and from, even after he's an adult and Luke wouldn't find out that he isn't showing up. He'll show up to a test just to be in the classroom, not to take it.

This is not mentioning what I'm too lazy to screencap, that he's always doing something. that especially when he's talking to Luke Jess is constantly and doing things with his hands constantly.

There's really only one time we see Jess sitting still doing almost nothing

But not really nothing because smoking really is something.

My dude needs to be as occupied as possible from the time he wakes up all the way up to and including when he falls asleep to stay occupied and all that he's got on hand is going to a school that says the pledge of allegiance in six different languages then he will go! It's 100%%% occupation or the horror of possibly relaxing and WHAT WOULD HAPPEN THEN

I repeat, if needed, since you seem to not get it: net profit is always calculated once all costs (fees, venue rental, transportation, dining and accommodation expenses, etc) are deducted. Then we can speak about the -again - as of yet undisclosed amount of that charity donation, which was the event's organizers pledge and exclusive responsibility. To this day, neither Camp Encourage, nor the event's organizers have shared figures. But I would take this kind of imperfect transparency any day over a dry announcement that '25% of the sales' profits will benefit the UK artists affected by COVID'. Knowing, in FMN's case, towards what projects did that profit share go, would have helped make it sound less patronizing, perhaps?

I wonder how do you know the amount of the donation or, for that matter, of S's fee. I would also have liked to see evidence of your bold assessment, not (common sense-ish) assumptions. And he never pretended to have given his time for free, nor disclosed any personal donation. What you're doing here is simply appeal to motive, with no concrete basis for it. ((Since this entire timeline worth of sketches were made on the promise of having an interactive bishop verse accessible for my own Lamb OC, I am gonna make a quick rundown/summary on how they had progressed from a shy, timid sheep to the more calm, outspoken character they are in their own written universe. So expect this post to be filled with either a lot of lore or even fun facts since I did spend nearly two weeks on this right art before I heard the sins of the flesh was being released this month. Anyway, now that we got that outta the way, here we go.

Mortal (20-24yrs old) - Shorter than their later counters, born with small horns that barely did much to defend themselves, and being somewhere on the autism spectrum... Being somewhat a powerfully strong giant amongst their own flock, they were a sheep who had been sheltered most of their mortal life who lived somewhat high in the flock hierarchy due to their parents wanting them to have a life that lived far from the bishops influence. Due to their sheltered nature, they were not familiar with the gods that much or at the very least their family had pledged their lives into a long gone deity who had died out despite their casual worship. Religion wasn't as forced upon their village since their own people had closed themselves off from the rest of the island shortly after their world had been cut off from the universe over a godly banishment many generations ago. Their people did not agree with the way the lesser gods that would take to caring for their very people, and it was what had brought them to be the last to the slaughter when the Bishops had commanded for their sacrifice.

Most of their life still remains vague to the Lamb after their final death bringing them to their current Godhood, as their memories had been burned as did their village had been to be erased by the followers of the Old Faith.

Vessel (10-20 into the cult lifestyle after the final death) - Now reborn into a new body that had been literally remade to better accustom the influence of the red crown and Nariender's desires of having a cult built in his name, the Lamb bore a more confidant persona void of the previous shyness they once were. Already growing their horns in with a nice touch of the crown's power flowing through them, their mind has been quick to adapt to the new cult lifestyle their old God of Death had placed them in, the red crown had given them knowledge to use weapons and how to use them. Their hair had grown long alongside them, showing the tests of time displaying their self neglect as they devoted their person to growing a flock of followers for their own gain. With their adapt personality and having the charm of a golden heart that led them being more soft on their followers than their master would've liked... they had married their first follower, a lil gray haired deer named Jewel, who they up most favored until the time of the deer's own death. Jewel did not get to see until later, upon their late revival, that the Lamb had gone and defeated the God of Death shortly after their passing.

If the Cat couldn't have brought them back even as the Lamb had gone and defeated the bishops as Nariender had asked, they backstabbed him for not keeping up the end of his own deal. They still spared the cat regardless of the pain, and even married him to spite his protests, but it did not mean they didn't put TTOW through hell though. To work out his debt, the Lamb had made the cat their priest to forever makeup for the pain they endured for their old master.

God (200-300 into their cult) - Now nurturing a colony made of 300 hundreds and 100 spouses made of devoted followers who they favored heavily to live forever by their side, they've grown into a multi-titled deity who had managed to bring back the old bishops from the depths of purgatory whilst stealing their crowns from them as payback for putting them to their final death. They are the last god in the lands, and in order to keep it that way they stole the bishops crowns to have for themselves to wield, and it is only fair they gave the crowns a new home where they properly belonged. Wanting to keep the bishops from power, while alongside marrying them as a quiet side reminding them to stay on their good side, they had decided to keep them as followers to keep an eye on them as they are; free of freedom as punishment for their wrong doings.

The Lamb by this time is more formally known as the Emperor now that the lands have come to recognize them as the last physical god of all the lands. They have long since had a hivemind made ever since the crowns had started to talk to them amongst their own thoughts, and they have extended this right to their spouses too. Even as their physical bodies might've died for a period of time, their spirit still lives on in the hivemind until the lamb can get a ritual ready for their bodies to be reborn anew again. When you are a spouse of the lamb, you are forever apart of them, and it's only right their favorites get the perks of being something special for their own enjoyment. :3

Multi Grand Divinity (2,000-???, it has been many centuries since they usurp their benefactor) - Long since their colony had stretched itself out far and wide until the lands had transformed into their people's home, the Lamb has grown into a newer form as their cult did alongside them. They can't do crusades as much as they used too, for with their tall size they have more people to do missionaries and the work for them, as their body has grown to be more accustomed to growing more power in their wake. The crowns had gotten bored with their last arrangement with their little host, for trading some simple devotion the Lamb had asked for only peace in their body alongside keeping their own individuality, and they had decided to forever take root in their home. When crowns get bored and decided to reproduce asexually, more lil crowns started to spread more deeper into the Emperor's frame like an odd fungus; slowly taking over their body just to allow themselves more room since their last apartment arrangement. The lamb has grown a couple new arms since then, but they only ever hide them when they are not running to travel in their own free time. They've even regained some of their vision since this new crown arrangement, but it came at the cost of it looking more stranger than the crowns first found it. Regardless though, their height and power makes up for what they sometimes lack.

There is an enormous amount of competition for PolitiFact's 2023 Lie of the Year award. But the decision has been made and the dubious honor goes to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

As pundits and politicos spar over whether Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign will factor into the outcome of the 2024 election, one thing is clear: Kennedy’s political following is built on a movement that seeks to legitimize conspiracy theories. His claims decrying vaccines have roiled scientists and medical experts and stoked anger over whether his work harms children. He has made suggestions about the cause of COVID-19 that he acknowledges sound racist and antisemitic. Bolstered by his famous name and family’s legacy, his campaign of conspiracy theories has gained an electoral and financial foothold. He is running as an independent — having abandoned his pursuit of the Democratic Party nomination — and raised more than $15 million. A political action committee pledged to spend between $10 million and $15 million to get his name on the ballot in 10 states.  Even though he spent the past two decades as a prominent leader of the anti-vaccine movement, Kennedy rejects a blanket "anti-vax" label that he told Fox News in July makes him "look crazy, like a conspiracy theorist." But Kennedy draws bogus conclusions from scientific work. He employs "circumstantial evidence" as if it is proof. In TV, podcast and political appearances for his campaign in 2023, Kennedy steadfastly maintained:

Vaccines cause autism.

No childhood vaccines "have ever been tested in a safety study pre-licensing."

There is "tremendous circumstantial evidence" that psychiatric drugs cause mass shootings, and the National Institutes of Health refuses to research the link out of deference to pharmaceutical companies.

Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine were discredited as COVID-19 treatments so COVID-19 vaccines could be granted emergency use authorization, a win for Big Pharma. 

Exposure to the pesticide atrazine contributes to gender dysphoria in children.

COVID-19 is "targeted to attack Caucasians and black people. The people who are most immune are Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese."

His off the scale and totally unsupported conspiracy theories are not confined to autism, vaccines, immunity, and COVID-19.

For Kennedy, the conspiracies aren’t limited to public health. He claims "members of the CIA" were involved in the assassination of his uncle, John F. Kennedy. He doesn’t "believe that (Sirhan) Sirhan’s bullets ever hit my father," Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, D-N.Y. He insists the 2004 presidential election was stolen from Democratic candidate John Kerry. News organizations, including PolitiFact, have documented why those claims, and many others, are false, speculative or conspiracy-minded. Kennedy has sat for numerous interviews and dismissed the critics, not with the grievance and bluster of former President Donald Trump, but with a calm demeanor. He amplifies the alleged plot and repeats dubious scientific evidence and historical detail.  Will his approach translate to votes? According to polls since November of a three-way matchup between President Joe Biden, Trump and Kennedy, Kennedy pulled 16% to 22% of respondents. Kennedy’s movement exemplifies the resonance of conspiratorial views. Misinformers with organized efforts are rewarded with money and loyalty. But that doesn’t make the claims true. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign based on false theories is PolitiFact’s 2023 Lie of the Year.

A Reminder: RFK Jr. has been politically disowned by other members of the Kennedy extended family. They do not support his bizarre conspiracy theories and other rantings. He is trying to capitalize on his family name even though he is a disgrace to the heritage of his uncles and father.

Nobody should vote for him thinking that he will bring back Camelot. RFK Jr. is basically an organic Trump without the makeup.

after binge-reading the last 10 chapters on patreon in july, i'm so relieved to finally send in this ask hehe... this ending was so painful but so well-written. i love that tigerclaw has an actual motivation here, instead of just being evil and power-hungry for no reason. makes it so much more emotionally impactful. i loved his relationship with Fireheart, even though it was so damn heart-wrenching at the end, and that final scene where Fireheart calls him when he's fleeing.... owwww [1/?]

i also love how you managed to make me feel sympathy for Darkstripe somehow LOL, and i'm really excited to see how his storyline develops in the next book/s!! i think the epilogue is possibly my favourite chapter out of the whole series, i feel heartbroken for poor Goldie just like how i felt overjoyed when she announced she was expecting (you're consistently fantastic at provoking emotions in the the reader) and autism brain go brrr so i loved seeing a little tidbit of how clan mothers name their kits. and the ending with Tigerclaw running from Horoa and the hunters. probably my favorite part of the entire series, i'm so bad at describing how i feel about things god but it felt like something you'd read in a greek epic or mythology, it was so beautifully and evocatively written. I loved this book, it was a pleasure to read and I'm so excited for the next one!

Thank you so much, my man! The reaction to the epilogue in particular makes me really happy - that was one of the things I was super uncertain of. I didn't know if folks would like it or not. Seems y'all did, so that's a relief!
