tina belcher <3 love whenever ppl are having a discussion about autistic characters in media who aren't the traditional super intelligent white man w/ savant syndrome and tina gets brought up. AS SHE DESERVES. once again my beautiful stupid autistic daughter who can't do math.or read
If you're autistic and watch a decent amount of films or TV, this is for you!!
I'm doing a project for school on autism and its good and bad portrayal in the media, and I need some primary data, so if you don't mind (I promise it isn't that long), could you answer this survey?
All answers are anonymous so don't worry about your name being revealed.
(Also if you don't know a character I'm taking about, there is an option to skip!)
Nothing drives me crazier than when a character is so so SO obviously written to be autistic but the creators want plausible deniability for any fuckups so they pretend they had noo idea the character came across that way
I don't like characters like Sheldon Cooper not because they're autistic-coded and have behaviours that are considered stereotypical. I don't like characters like Sheldon Cooper because many of the traits that make them autistic-coded are shown as something to laugh at.
That scene in Young Sheldon where Sheldon’s dad yelled at him for breaking the fridge bc the noise from it was causing him to go insane and lose sleep and ended with Sheldon crying was legit really sad-
ill never shut up about this because the reason i love sheldon cooper is that hes loved and cared for by his friends even if theres a disconnect
hes portayed in the worst way possible, jes also mocked a lot and thats where a lot of people start hating him (and hes not good autistic rep of course)
but him having his friends against all odds in a way that he doesnt have to pour all his energy into maintaining that status brings me great comfort
because i would most likely loose everyone if i did that
