20 Questions For Fic Writers
Thank you so much for the tag @incorrectcoldflashblog! This was really nice to think about and look at the stats since I don't normally look at them. It was a pleasant reminder.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I've been writing on Ao3 since '19 and I have 116 works right now, hopefully, it'll be 117 by the end of the weekend if I can get my shit together
2. What’s your total A03 word count?
843,577
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Supernatural, Spideypool, Merthur, and Buffy Verse (mainly Spangel though)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Distraction: Scars - Rated Mature (1,173 Kudos)
This is a Bad Idea, Rated Explicit (920 Kudos)
Waiting for the Perfect Time, Rated Teen (654 Kudos)
Distraction: Voice(s), Rated Explicit (614 Kudos)
Breakfast, Rated Explicit (427 Kudos)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Always! I might be slow sometimes, but I always respond to a comment. I appreciate them so much. It always makes my day to know someone else besides me enjoyed a story I wrote. I also just love talking about my stories.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hahaha, I write so many sad and angsty things. I normally try to make a happyish ending cause I know people enjoy that (not sure if I always hit the mark, but I try). So this one took me a while to dig through stuff. I think it would be Foolishness? It's pretty sad and tragic. I enjoy it.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I live in the bitter-sweet and I don't think I have many that are purely happy. I feel like the happiest of endings will not be published till next year though. I think The Valley Kingdoms is pretty happy. Even if in my mind it's not an end more like a middle, but it is the end of that part of the story.
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
No, not yet.
9. Do you write smut?
Yes. So much smut.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Hehe, I write crossovers of my own stories. But no not of fandoms.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of as of now.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, I've had two fics translated, and I am beside myself with joy that someone wanted to take the time to translate them for others. Wine and Dine is available in Russian as well as some of Learn (I believe they have only done up to chapter 5 of Learn on Ficbooks)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Nope, not yet.
14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?
I swoon for Spideypool every single time, forever.
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Dude this question is evil right now. I am currently trying desperately to empty my drive of my WIPs (not counting my multi-chapter fics) before switching how I store my stories. I still have so many not-posted works, and I want to finish them all. But, I know I won't. I probably won't finish Once and Future Soulmates. It's an angsty sci-fi meets fantasy Merthur idea I started writing that has a few chapters written, but it's a big project and idk I just haven't gotten to it. As far as posted WIPs I plan on finishing them all.
16. What’s your writing strengths?
World building and that blend of happy sad. I think I'm pretty good at that
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
Word choice and like lack of repetition with body movements. I struggle with body movements and tracking.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I typically don't, other than like phrases I know. Writing in character dialogue is hard enough, to be completely honest.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Lord of the Rings! I still have some of it posted on my Ao3 but my old drives and the internet ate the rest of the story and my prequel ;-;
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
It would be a tie between any of the Monster Eater Verse fics and the Common Deadpool Distractions series. I love those verses so so dearly and I re-read them often.
Thank you so much for tagging me this was truly a pleasure to sit and think about and look over the things I've written over the years.
No Pressure Tags: @idabbleincrazy, @hobbyistauthor, @fantasticstoryteller, @maggot-monger and anyone else who would like to <3

Can I translate your story bhthk into Turkish?
Short version: Yes! Go right ahead.
Longer version: From my profile on AO3--
Transformative Works My work is explicitly available for translations, podding, vidding, and traditional or digital art. Please drop me a note with a link so I can share!
I prefer translations be posted to AO3, but I am fine with Wattpad, Weibo, Lofter, Ficbook, and other language-specific sites. Due to the way FF.net treats users and the long history of purges, I don't approve of that site. Please no translations posted there.
Bookbinding is permitted on an individual, single-copy basis for self-collection or as gifts. Typesets must be self-made or publicly available and free. I do not give permissions for commission/sales of finished books, for sales of typesets, or for paywalls/patreons of my work and words.
For remixes, please email me for queries.
For fancrafts/products such as, but not limited to, canvas bags, shirts, mugs, pins, or stickers, please email me for discussion. Do not use "official" intellectual property (Harry Potter, Dark Mark, Department of Magical Law Enforcement, etc) in combination with my work. Do not use references to my fanfic or my pen name in search-terms such as names, descriptions, or tags for merchandise made for sale.
Archiving I do not give permission to have my fics redistributed, archived, or reposted. Downloading or saving copies for personal use is fine; do not reupload or repost to any sites, including Wattpad and FF.net.

hi!! I just binge read half of you fics on AO3 and wanted to say that I loved them so much, you writing style is truly amazing. I was wondering if I could get your permission to translate some of them for ficbook. net? mostly Wanda/Natasha ones and some with Yelena too. I'll put credits and the link to the original ofc. this kind of fics are so rare in the non-english parts of marvel fandom and I just really want to make more people enjoy them like I did
hi! apologies for getting back to this so late; life’s been a little crazy
i’d typically answer this kind of message privately, but i think it’s also a good opportunity to clear things up with regards to how i handle this sort of request!
in short, the answer is yes, my works can be translated. BUT, i’d like to be informed/messaged about it first, and for us to discuss it. also, if it is something that will be posted on a site such as ficbook, which does not have the option to link directly to the original story as ao3 does, i will request that i am provided the link to access it. not as an editor, of course; just the link where it will be available for reading
so, apologies again for the late response, but—yes! i’d love to have works of mine translated. i’ve had a few translated before, and that’s been a wonderful experience. so, just shoot me a message, and we’ll discuss specifics!

What fanfic platform do you publish your works and you username? You mention a Harry Potter fanfic in one your posts but I can not find it.
I think it’s cause all my fanfiction is in Russian and was only available on the Ficbook, Russian-language platform. Now I have a profile on AO3, but there’s only one fic right now. I have an ambitious plan to translate my fics into English, but it will take a lot of time.
Anyway, here’s a link to my profile! I post art there too (because I also have an ambitious plan to draw a comic one day😌)
Thanks for your question!

Morning Star
Fandom: The Sandman Characters: Dream x Lucifer, Death Rating: G Genre: slash/pre-slash, romance ____________________ Hell is an ever-seething cauldron of anger, rage and hatred. Heaven is the peace of balance and the happiness of existence.
And dreams are the boundary between the real and the unreal, an endless abyss of everything. Hell is indifferent to the Prince of Dreams.
But Lucifer is not Hell. * * *
Enough time has passed for the storm that swept the world after Lucifer's leave to calm down. The key to Hell no longer lay heavy in hands, the fragile balance of the world was restored. There came the silence, similar to what happens after a heavy storm.
Dream glides like a silent, majestic shadow through his kingdom, creates with the inspiration of a true artist, without looking back, without guessing the result, striving for perfection only visible to him. People have new dreams.
People have frightening and inspiring dreams, contemplative and dreary, bright and restless, angry and poisonous, they dream vices and sins, they dream revenge and creation. And only one thing unites this kaleidoscope: the radiance of the Morning Star in the darkest sky, of the bright, the only one.
Lucifer himself looks like a perfect nightmare, perfect in his impeccable precision and versatility. But no matter how many nightmares Morpheus creates – none of them made it. Well, it's silly to compare a fallen angel and visions woven from the matter of dreams and visions. Lucifer has always been one of the greatest creators. The Morning Star, in some strange, insane sense, is a guiding light, and Dream cannot find an answer to the question: when did this star become a beacon for him?
Perhaps this has been the case since the beginning of time.
Fallen angels. Absolutely different, the Endless ones cannot understand them – but, of course, one can try. It seems that restless Death was the first to try to do this when she took one of them under her wing. Everyone is mortal, even angels. It made a strange impression on her then, she appeared in the realm of Dream, chatted about it incessantly and brought somewhat figs and apples with her, telling about the forbidden fruit.
He had listened to her then, caught up in the whirlpool of rapid, light speech – like the waters of a mountain river – and he was thinking, what it would be like to have wings.
* * *
An eternity after that story of hers, Death is sitting, legs dangling from a low curved bridge, swinging her feet carelessly and crunching a juicy green apple. Dream stands like an immovable shadow nearby. People don't notice him, even though he stands out among them – a tall, thin black silhouette, like a fragment of the black mirror of the abyss lost in the universe. They don't notice because Morpheus doesn't want it; he's an illusion, a dream, visible only from the corner of the eye, you look at him point-blank and you won't see him anymore, that's how the magic of dreams works. People don't notice Death because they don't want to see her. And she is not up to them at this moment, she watches the little fox cubs playing on the shore while their ginger mother lazily basks in the sun.
Dream has no wings and never had. Even if someone dreamed him differently. His canopy of soft darkness is his mantle of night.
"Let me ask you a question, sister mine," the speech of the Dream Lord is slow, heavy, like stones on the path of a mountain river. Death raises her head, squinting at him, nods and waits. "Do tell me... what does it feel like to have wings?"
Death raises an eyebrow and looks thoughtfully at the water lilies swaying rhythmically on the water. The sun leaning towards the horizon casts warm reflections on her pale face.
"This is freedom," she finally says, "The greatest freedom. Only birds know such a thing. And not everyone is aware of it," she follows the swift darting over them with her eyes. "And at the same time, it is the heaviest chain that binds hand and foot."
Dream stares at her, trying to feel her, and wonders if the fallen ones feel it the same way. The fallen one.
"It's like you have everything but nothing."
"Have you ever wanted to be free of them?" Dream asks cautiously. The question is too direct and frank, but if there is at least someone in all worlds and universes whom he can trust, then it is her.
Slyly looking up at him, Death chuckles. Of course, the reason for such a question won't hide from her insight. Sometimes Dream thinks if she literally sees beyond his skin and bone. She stares cunningly like a fox, shrewdly like a crow, leerily as a human. Sister's touch – the tip of a raven's feather, a whiff of the north wind – easily glides over Dream's pale thin wrist.
"No, lil' brother. I think that my bondage is a worthy payment for my freedom." He nods thoughtfully, accepting her contradictory answer, looks at the sunset sky – the stars in the abyss of his gaze dimly twinkle with cold silver. The rulers of the worlds beyond the limits of human consciousness do not wear crowns, but Dream always holds himself as if it is very heavy.
Death gets to her feet easily, dusts off her palms and comes closer, puts her head on younger brother's shoulder. It's like her crown is the lightest coronet woven from nothingness and moonlight, shining with the last supernova flash.
"You're still thinking about it. How did you feel at that moment, huh? When you cut off his wings."
Dream purses his thin, bloodless lips, pondering over the answer, and then drops a short one like a heavy stone:
"A fleeting triumph."
He hesitates, it is noticeable – by the way his fingers tremble, by the restless gleam of stars in his eyes, by the shadow of doubt that barely passed over his face. If they were in the Realm of Dreams now, the sky would be covered with storm clouds or illuminated with a crazy rainbow of a thousand colours; the wind would bring the cherry petals torn off and sprinkle their snow over the hot sands. But they're in the mortal world. And only wise Death sees contradictory feelings under the porcelain mask of dispassion.
He thinks of the fallen angel, the crown of Almighty's creation. Not people, no. They amuse themselves with fairy tales that they stand on top of the world, while they are just a herd grazing in the meadows – whoever the herd thinks they are, both the shepherd and the guard dog know what it's really worth.
"He's in Los Angeles right now," Death says, yawning in a completely human way and putting her arm around brother's waist to make it easier to stand.
The Endless look at the sky in the west becoming more and more bright and scarlet, and on the other side the fox stretches, fluffs up her copper fur coat – she's like a fragment of sunset herself.
Among the Endless, Dream is not the most cautious and secretive, but probably the most arrogant. And he can let himself be mistaken.
Among the Endless, Death is not the most calculating and pragmatic, but probably the most reasonable. And she can let him take the risk.
"It was a good day, sister mine," Dream admits, squinting at her. Death smiles broadly at the starry abyss in his eyes:
"For sure! Otherwise, you would have been sitting like ruffled a crow in your hall, and wouldn't have seen anything! And you wouldn't try roasted chestnuts."
Dream looks at her and suddenly laughs. Softly, velvety and very sincere. This laughter is like a glass of champagne on an empty stomach, barely getting out of bed; like waking up under warm sunlight; like a fresh mountain breeze disturbing the lake surface.
Lucifer is no longer the ruler of Hell, but he is still a powerful Fallen One. He is still the one who created the world itself. Anyone would tell the Dream Lord that it is not worth dealing with him once again, it is not worth getting in the way of someone who has something to avenge – someone who has cursed with his kingdom by abandoning it. But not Death. Maybe because she really cares.
* * *
He is chasing a nightmare – other people's dreams crumble in the path of this chase, the sleepers wake up, not understanding what's the matter, they feel anxiety and unreasonable fear.
Dream chases the nightmare – it takes shape of a fleet-footed cheetah, but the Dream-panther is faster and more stronger; the falcon cannot overcome the raven; the multicolored asp dives into the water like an arrow – to be caught by the indifferent mouth of the anglerfish.
The trapped nightmare shrinks in a tiny black stone at the feet of the Prince of Dreams.
Lucien looks at it with hostility, coldly, waiting for the verdict.
"It is imperfect," Dream says.
"You can improve it," Lucien responds politely.
The nightmare runaway of an endless chase no longer tries to escape, because it knows that there is no hiding from the wrath of Dream. But it seems that he is indifferent to the fate of the failed creation.
"Later," he says. And he doesn't even scatter the insolent in sand – he just picks up the stone, sealing the nightmare in this guise, so that it doesn't run away again – so that it writhes in the cramped tiny cage, punishing itself – and inattentively gives it to Lucien.
"Is something wrong, my lord?" finally, the librarian asks cautiously.
"I have things to do."
Dream discarnates into golden sand, leaving his realm.
Night is his time, now, being among thousands of sleeping creatures, Morpheus feels even more power in his hands than usual. The City of Angels is full of sinners, vices and dirty darkness; The City of Angels does not sleep, but dreams – its dreams and visions are woven into a crazy kaleidoscope of evening lights and neon signs.
Dream glides like an invisible shadow between people, dark clothes barely rustle with the echo of distant dreams, he is a missed chance, a vague hope, a blurred memory. People turn around, but they don't see anything.
Dream steps on the threshold of a catchy nightclub with a very telling name, gaining materiality at half-step – the mantle of deep night is replaced by long, but quite tangible dark coat flaps, the starry abyss in his eyes is covered with a veil of clouds – they seem just black.
Lucifer, still as magnificently elegant as before, plays the piano easily, masterfully, and Dream stands at a distance, listening to his music. It is echoed by human sins and vices, whose song sounds stronger here; he remembers how the Lightbringer once told him that he also has weaknesses.
It is not he who is subject to human vices and weaknesses, Dream thinks, but the human vices and weaknesses are a pathetic parody of the chatoyancy of the desires of the Fallen. Inept takeoff of a fan on a real star. The Morning Star, the brightest of all.
A moment before the music ends, Dream leaves the noisy hall being the same quiet shadow. To him, the Endless, the material world is nothing; he takes a step on the asphalt colored with bright lights, and the next step he makes barefoot on the cool coastal sand.
"Seems like I didn't imagine, Dream of the Endless."
Lucifer's voice is a deceptively soft feline tread, warm sparks of the first flames, enveloping velvet of intoxicating poison. The night sky is strewn with stars unnaturally thick and bright, but Dream looks at the only star instead – the Morning one.
"You are an unrivaled creator, Morning Star," Dream says after a pause.
"A crazy artist tells me," Lucifer chuckles, smiling nonchalantly. They are now like light and darkness – only behind the angelic appearance of the Fallen lies an endless abyss of sin and destruction, and the profoundly black robes of Dream conceal the brightest kaleidoscope of reveries and piercing sun rays of hope.
"I didn't want to disturb you," Dream continues. "I was just curious to look at your new world."
"I doubt you've seen enough, Morpheus," Lucifer comes closer, calm, relaxed, like a well-fed wildcat – hands in his pants pockets, the night breeze ruffles his blond hair.
The last time they saw each other, the black poisonous blood of the Lightbringer was under their feet, and Dream treaded on his severed wings.
Now it seems to him that they are still behind Lucifer's back – but different. Light, thin, swift, shimmering with the cold gold of the night sky and neon signs.
Dream cannot take his eyes off their invisible outlines, and recklessly steps towards them.
"Then show me more, Lightbringer."
It's like going all-in in a complex card game. But it is better than the unknown; the Dream Lord is no stranger to pride, but he prefers defeat to uncertainty.
But contrary to expectations, Morning Star grins and holds out his hand.
Now it would be right to disintegrate in the golden sand, slip away along thin threads connecting mortals and the dream world, but instead Dream touches warm, material Lucifer's hand.
And sees through his eyes.
The city is overwhelmed by a wave of emotions, experiences, sins – life, bubbling and real. It hits the head like a strong cocktail, like a first kiss, knocks down like a drunken brawl, like a pupil-dilating drug. It seems to Dream as if he is falling into an eternity, and it seems as if wings suddenly unfold behind his own back – the thinnest, huge, immediately falling off in a mantle of weightless darkness, but this life, real, different, fleeting, brings him down into the abyss and then lifts him to heaven. To where the Morning Star burns brightest among the twinkling stars.
"Well... and how do you like my world?" the devil whispers in his ear.
"Your world... is like you. It is beautiful in its diversity and its brightness," Dream answers, and his words are unusually light, as if they are also caught up in the vortex of creation. "Your world is a real art, shining brighter than the stars. Your world is like you, it is the faded shadow of yours."
The devil is behind his shoulder, warm breath touches his temple, warm fingers wrap around his wrist.
Dream is of the Endless, they are above sins and virtues, above temptations; but they are not devoid of human passions.
After a moment or infinity, Lucifer retreats a step, and Dream involuntarily stretches after him, like a shadow at sunset – in a way people cling to a nap, trying to catch last sweet visions after the alarm clock rings, dream a little more, cling to the flaps of his mantle, and it slips out of their fingers. And now it's like he's in their place.
"I'm glad to see you here, Dream," the Lightbringer says calmly, looking at him intently, with a strange, unreadable gaze.
"After all that happened?" Dream clarifies, and the heavy quiet speech sounds different now, it sounds like the sleepy rumbling of a wild cat warmed in the sun, the rustle of a night summer rain.
Lucifer just shrugs.
"Have you thought about why you exactly?"
Dream recalls all their meetings from the beginning of time. Cautious, indifferent, then – hostile, with tangible opposition; later – with mutual respect for a worthy opponent and even more cautious. There were... There were as many of them as there were stars in the sky. Fallen angels do not sleep, but they do dream. Each dream brought Lucifer to the Realm of Dreams, each time its master followed the priceless guest like an invisible shadow.
"Tell me, Prince of Dreams, what do you dream about?" Lightbringer says.
What does the dream dream about? It's like asking what the tempter is tempting himself with. The starry abyss looks straight into the bright eyes of the tempter and sees this temptation by its reflection.
"Dreams are unreal, they are only something that cannot be reached, hidden fears and desires. I rarely get the opportunity to dream, Morning Star..." says Dream softly, his speech is the Milky Way spreading in the night sky. "But then... I see the stars that appeared before all things, and I hear the echo of the song of creation that sounded before I appeared, and I see the Arch as I have never seen it – with the brightest star. I see the creation of all things. And the stars, Lightbringer. In my dreams, I see stars."
The stars echo his words shining in the dark holes of deep eyes, and he looks at Lucifer directly, openly. When Dream speaks like this, his words seem to be woven into the matter of dreams, fragments of visions glide around. He is a great storyteller, all fantasies come to life in his domain, restless creative minds bring inspiration from his realm.
The stars in the distant abyss seem to shine a little differently. Their brilliance is no longer so distant and cold, it does not burn with the cold dawns of unknown worlds, but shimmers with sparks of fire in the hearth, the warm gold of sunset, the copper-silver skin of a snake that has slipped into the autumn foliage.
"Come back sometime, Dream," Lucifer says. "And don't run away so fast. I'd play something special for you."
Dream does not answer, but they both know that their meeting will be repeated.
* * *
There's no one but the two of them here, even the faithful Mazikeen was sent away – she does not like the Dream Lord, can not forgive him the humiliation of her master in front of hordes of demons.
Stringy and sweet like summer honey, the melody fills the space for a single listener – Dream approaches as a black shadow, stops in a step, listens without taking the stars' gaze from the Fallen One.
Lucifer is the perfect creation, the perfect creator – under his hands, music takes on an impeccable form, inaccessible to mortals, and the heart could not stand the beauty of this melody.
"You are the most skilful of musicians, Lightbringer," Dream says when the echoes of the last chord cease. "You have always been the greatest creator."
Fallen One rises to his feet and moves his shoulders almost imperceptibly – as if the scars left on his back from the severed wings are still aching.
"You're dreaming of the stars, Dream," he says, and his gaze seems to be turned inward. "Even here, you've surpassed me."
The Prince of Dreams looks at him for a long time, and then he goes to the piano himself, runs his fingers over the keys. He could take the grace of the hands movements from an Austrian youth, a future recognized genius, restlessly dozing on an airplane; take a smooth rhythm from an old Jewish woman who devoted her whole life to music, who fell asleep in a hospital bed; take a melody from a genius of cold Norway, who was not understood and will never be understood anymore, who forgot himself in a drunken, sound sleep; weave together as carefully as he creates dreams.
But even that would not be enough.
"Fallen angels do not sleep, but they do dream," Dream says. And before his words have time to painfully prick wounded pride, he adds, "So let me offer you a gift."
The finest sand shimmers in gold on his palm. The abyss in his eyes is restlessly twinkling with stars.
"Do you think this would help me?" Lucifer snorts haughtily, as if masking an old, painful longing.
"You're not losing anything, Morning Star," Morpheus' words, slow, quiet, inexorable, are like the night darkness coming from the east.
"Fine. So be it," the devil agrees and meets this darkness with his head held high in pride. Golden sand darts off from the palm of the Dream Lord, envelops, covers his eyes, carries away in this whirlwind.
Dream does not know what Lucifer is really dreaming about, but gives him what he can give. He gives a vision of pure, absolute freedom – he gives a blank canvas the size of the whole infinity which fits in the palm of the hand; he gives new wings – weightless, intangible, light and swift; he gives new stars – bright, sparkling, falling in bubbles into a glass of champagne. He gives a gust of fresh, strong wind, sweeping away all the old pain, blowing out all the painful memories; he gives a bright surf with a surge of energy and baseless fun.
He gives something with which he once defeated Lucifer's vassal in front of his legions: hope.
Morpheus is above the concepts of good and evil, he is the creator – the bizarre harmony, the elusive balance is more important for him, and he often does not make a difference between vices and virtues. But he looks into the essence of things, spreads his dreams under Morning Star's feet – and he remains fascinated himself by this brightest radiance.
When the golden sand settles like a gentle haze under the feet of the Fallen One, Dream hears a soft, velvety, triumphant laugh. And this sound is the cosmic melody of the brightest star that fell so infinitely long ago.
Its brightest light flashes with renewed vigor as a beacon in the darkness, and this is the hope that everything just begins.

AO3′s users alert! Unauthorised fanworks copying
26/09/2019. Important update on this mess: we found a way to delete fanworks via take down request to the hosting provider. Please check it here https://do-a-reference-properly.tumblr.com/post/187926459079/finally-some-good-news
Dear AO3 users,
We would like to bring your attention to an ugly situation with unauthorized copying of works posted on AO3.
A lot of works from AO3 have been copied to fanfics.me (we’ll call this site FFM for brevity’s sake) and are still being copied right now, either:
— automatically by a code specifically created by FFM’s owner for this purpose, or
— by unaware or unscrupulous FFM’s users via semi-automatic method (by inserting a link to a work from AO3 into a web-worm on FFM).
All works from AO3 — with a few exceptions (I’ll elaborate on this below) — can end up on FFM without authors even noticing. Even fanarts or podfics.
FFM doesn't comply with DMCA which means that such reposts endanger fanworks' creators in case the copyright holder demands to delete the fanwork.
Authors of the copied works do not have any control over them; if the work is edited it won’t be updated on FFM until someone manually updates it.
Additionally FFM’s owner makes money out of reposted free fanworks from numerous Google and Yandex ads on each and every FFM’s page by having people go to this site when searching for fics on Google etc. So we recommend using an Ads Blocker when visiting this site in order to prevent the owner from earning more. Ghostery or Adblock Plus work just fine, but you can use any other Ads Blocker that is convenient to you.
Oftentimes FFM even shows up before the original post with the work on Google search results.
The owner’s e-mail: [email protected].
The owner at AO3.
We are trying to bring AO3’s users attention to this situation and help authors with taking their works down from FFM.
Briefly about the website and its owner
Let me start from the very beginning as it will bring into the light the nature of FFM and give a good example of its owner characteristic behavior.
At first, some person with nickname Refery created FFM as a web archive where authors — mostly from Harry Potter fandom — could publish their fanworks.
Time passed, the site grew and added some features (blogs, pre-moderation and etc.), and all was good and well up till the moment when Refery decided that it would be a great idea to copy to FFM fanworks published on other Russian fanfiction archives — among them from the biggest and most known site ficbook — without asking authors for permission. Even those works that had “Ask me before posting the story somewhere else” mentioned in its text or summary were copied.
For some time nobody noticed, but when finally and inevitably this came out the authors were outraged. It took a lot of time to finally persuade Refery to at least not to copy fanworks bearing a special tag “Уточнять у автора” (Ask the author first).
But after some time Refery — without giving any notice — violated his own promise and resumed copying to FFM fanworks that had the agreed upon tag. The authors complained again, so very reluctantly and after many painful discussions this feature was reinstalled.
So FFM has been notoriously known, mostly amongst Russian fandom, for claims on re-posting fanworks without the consent of the authors.
We're mentioning this situation just to give you a detailed portrait of a person we are dealing with here.
Not only fanworks are copied to this website, but original works, too. Even those which were already published. There were all 7 of Harry Potter novels (both original text and translation), The Hobbit: There and Back Again (translation) and Vorkosigan Saga (translation) available for everybody to read and download. They were taken down only recently due to the attention this whole situation had drawn, but nothing ever goes away once it’s posted online and you can access the proof via Internet Wayback machine. We know for a fact there are other books on FFM and some actions have been taken in this regard, but still it takes time to find published books on this site.
Recently Refery decided that Russian archives are not enough for him and started copying all fanworks into FFM without any permission from the authors from numerous sites, like AO3, fanfiction.net, fictionpress.com, fanfiktion.de and likely other web-archives.
Moreover, the authors of these works can not delete their works from FFM and/or manage them. The site is in Russian only and, hence, we strongly believe that non-Russian speaking authors even do not know that their works are reposted somewhere else.
As a Russian fan-community, we have tried to stop such activity of FFM many times; however, we have not been successful in achieving our goal completely. Our most recent achievement is that the FFM’s owner implemented the "Don't copy to another site" tag created specifically for AO3 (here is the link to FFM’s owner post on his personal blog regarding this tag. Please use Ads Blocker!). This tag should be added to each work presented on AO3 in case the author does not want their works to be copied to FFM.
We are of the opinion that no work should be taken without permission in the first place, but this tag is all we’ve got.
Please note that it seems that some time ago there was similar case of unauthorized copying with other site. Please check this link, they give useful advice.
How to prevent copying from AO3
If you check AO3 you may notice that "Don't copy to another site" tag has hugely emerged in the recent weeks, but mostly amongst Russian users and there is a good reason for this: the owner of FFM announced this tag only in Russian and only on his private blog, so naturally there is no way for non-Russian speaking AO3 users to know about this — albeit non-satisfactory — solution.
There are no guaranties that the FFM’s owner won’t change the rules again as has already happened numerous times before (few examples we described above) and that works with this tag won’t be reposted in the future, but for now it’s the only quick and working solution besides making your works visible only to registered users, which is not ideal.
This situation is highly unpleasant, but we ask you not to delete your works from AO3, because if the work is deleted from AO3 it will be nearly impossible to delete it from FFM: we won't be able to refresh it manually and remove the text.
Please note that adding this tag won’t work for texts that have already been copied. Only users who have accounts at FFM will be able to delete them. Each work needs to be deleted manually.
However, the Russian fandom — except for the owner of FFM — strongly condemns reposts without the consent of the author, so feel free to contact our volunteers (through DM or Ask on our tumblr page) providing the links to the works stolen from AO3, so we could delete them for you.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to cover all authors and works manually. So, we contacted AO3’ Technical Team with the aim to bring their attention to this situation and inform about it all AO3 users, and hope that AO3 team will find a general solution to resolve this problem, possibly, in collaboration with the AO3 lawyers.
We are trying to warn as many authors as possible and recently started spreading this information via comments on AO3; but considering the number of works copied to FFM informing all authors will take considerable time, and we can easily miss someone, especially since the copying is still in progress and new works from AO3 are appearing on FFM every day.
Please help us spread the word!
We tried to make a comprehensive FAQ about this. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear!
FAQ
Q: Can I check if my work was copied to FFM?
A: Yes, you can.
FFM makes money on Google and Yandex ads, so we recommend turning on the Ads Blocker of your choice before visiting this site.
Please follow this link, insert the title of your work or your AO3/other web-archive nickname into the field containing the words "insert-title-nickname" and hit "Искать" (Search).
Tumblr media
For works rated Mature or Explicit you will be able to see only the caption "Текст произведения доступен только зарегистрированным пользователям старше 18 лет" ("The text of the work is available only to registered users over 18 years old"), but FFM users are able to read and download the story.
Tumblr media
Q: My work from AO3 was copied. How can I take it down?
A: First of all add the tag "Don't copy to another site" (without “ “) to the stories you want to be taken down.
Actually we would recommend adding this tag to all the works you don't want to be copied.
Contact one of our volunteers (through DM or Ask on our tumblr page) providing links to your works or send an e-mail with your deletion request directly to the FFM owner at [email protected] or at AO3.
There is a third option: to register on FFM and delete the work yourself by hitting the refresh button, but considering that the site is in Russian we do not think it will be very convenient to those who do not speak Russian language.
Q: I got the message that my work has been deleted. How can I check if it is true?
A: You can go to FFM, search for you work, click on its title and scroll down.
After the summary there is a field that should look like this for those fics that have been deleted.
Tumblr media
Basically it says that the author of this particular work has forbidden its copying and that only the information on its title, author’s nickname, rating, pairings, summary and the link to original post on AO3 are available.
For works that are still available on FFM this field looks like this (if the work is open for non-registered users).
Tumblr media
Q: My work copied from AO3 was deleted, but FFM still shows some information on it. Can it be deleted?
A: Even though the text of the fic is not going to be on FFM anymore after it has been deleted, the fic's title, author's name, rating, pairings, summary and link to original post on AO3 will remain there.
The deletion of this leftover information can be done only by the site owner himself.
Some Russian authors tried to make him to delete it, but in most cases the FFM’s owner refused them mentioning that publication of such information is in line with fair use concept and doesn’t violate authors’ rights.
We are yet unsure how to delete this leftover information. In case you need it as well, try contacting the FFM owner at [email protected] or at AO3. Maybe e-mails of a large number of authors will work, but unfortunately we can’t guarantee anything. In case you need it, we can provide Russian text for you to send by e-mail (please contact our volunteers through DM or Ask on our tumblr page).
Q: My work from fanfiction.net/fictionpress.com/fanfiktion.de/other web-archives was copied to FFM. How can I take it down?
A: Unfortunately, there is no possible way for us to delete from FFM the fanworks that are copied from web-archives other then AO3. Only FFM’s owner can delete these works, please try contacting him at [email protected] or at AO3. In case you need it, we can provide Russian text for you to send by e-mail (please contact our volunteers through DM or Ask on our tumblr page).
Please do not delete your works from the web-archive it was stolen from, because if the work is deleted it will be nearly impossible to delete it from FFM.
Also it seems that some time ago there was similar case of unauthorized copying with other site. Please check this link, they give useful advice.

Recommendations for cirillac'h fanfic
Although there are not many cirillac'h fanfics in this fandom, but most of them are written with great care and in-character plot.
I've read all the cirillac'h fanfics on AO3, most of ones on Fanfiction, and some of ones on Ficbook. Now, I'd like to compile a list of recommendations, the following are all cirillac'h fanfics that I really like. Some of them are not updated anymore until now, but I still recommend reading what has been posted.
I couldn't add the link of Fanfiction directly on Tumblr, so I added the link to the fanfic title.
Since some fanfics of my recommendations are not in English, I wholeheartedly recommend this translator, which at least has a much better recognition of metaphors than Google.
It's not forgetting that heals - It's remembering by AwesomeDragons
Rated: M
Status: Finished
Language: English
Summary: Because even thought this girl was not Lara, and he was no longer himself, the feeling he had was something he faintly remembered. / Avallac'h thinks about his life. From Lara Dorren to Cirilla, and their travels after the books/before Witcher 3/in Witcher 3.
This is my favorite cirillac'h fanfic, I don't even know how many times I've read it, probably five or six. Every time I see the title, my mood start to fluctuate. The writer told the story from Ava's point of view, from their escape to their reunion after the game's ending. She did an extraordinary job of capturing Ava's torn, conflicted, and painful psyche. There are so many things to like about this fanfic, and if I must make a choice, then my favorite part is probably the ending. It's a complete fulfillment, a fulfillment that makes me happy for them from the bottom of my heart.
一梦沼 by Auphiteus
Rated: E
Status: Finished
Language: Chinese
Summary: Avallac'h suffers a new crisis of confidence as Ciri's demons in her heart take hold. However, he thinks he's not doing anything bad apart from acting very tolerant (towards human) and gentlemanly (towards young girl), and continues to be confused.
This is the best Chinese cirillac'h fanfic ever. It's a pity that the AI translator can't translate it beautifully with its many metaphors and poetry. The writer captured very well the delicate stage where Avallac'h and Ciri are wary of one aother but have to rely on each other at the meantime. This is a story written in conjunction with the original, a story that happened while they were in the hot spring, and has a lot of original spoiler, so read with caution.
Nocturne by Ratzinger
Rated: E
Status: Finished
Language: English
Summary: What was it that was more real about suffering than about happiness? Had she not wanted to become someone else tonight? To forget for a bit.
And here, a fox from a ruthless fairy tale, whom a human girl had led in swallow circles, weaving her own notes into his music, heel and toe, spin and bow, at the end of the world.
Soft laughter escaped the woman’s lips and flew off, into the night.
When I first read this fanfic, I thought I was reading an elegant prose. The writer's writing skills and phrasing are one of the best. When the Fox and the Swallow chose to use sex to heal themselves a little for different reasons, the collision of desire and reason could not be more delicious. Trying, struggling, doubting, sinking, this is how I imagine their sex in Night City. This is a section from a series of fanfic, the first few sections of which I also recommend reading. It is fine if you only want to read this section, which has little to do with the previous sections.
Lo spazio di una note by Kyrgwayne (Noruard)
Rated: E
Status: Finished
Language: Italian
Summary: It all happened in the space of one night. The night she visited him; the night he learned that the Witcher had died and that she, Zireael, was left alone.
What I like most about this fanfic is that it focused on Ava's need and desire for Ciri. Ciri has always shown a more obvious affection for Ava throughout their relationship, and most fanfic highlight her thoughts more. But this one is from Ava's point of view and gives us some insight into his panic, insecurity, fear and even self-loathing. Ciri in this one is also an image which I really like, both the maturity of a woman and some control over the situation, and the state of being at a loss and desperate for others' care. The psychological descriptions in this one are very spot on. There is also a prequel to this story, which I also recommend. Again, if you don't read the prequel, it doesn't matter.
Conflicted Emotions by Owlteria
Rated: M
Status: Finished
Language: English
Summary: Hiding on Ard Skellig from the Red Riders, Avallac'h decides for a quick visit to his secret laboratory to retrieve medicine for Cirilla. He gets distracted by a portrait of her...
This fanfic is a story that I think might have happened. Just like the title, the whole story described Ava's "conflicted emotions" from his point of view. The contrast between the warmth in his imagination and the coldness of his laboratory made him feel doubly lonely. The ending of this fanfic is also my favorite, when they broke through the burden and faced their destiny, maybe they would also no longer suffer from this conflicted emotion. Another outstanding point of this piece is that the writer put her own hand-drawn Ciri at the end, making this fanfic very real.
The Swallow & the Fox by Lyracst
Rated: E
Status: Unfinished
Language: English
Summary: On the run from Eredin and the Hunt, Ciri finds herself in the company of of an unexpected ally. With Avallac'h's help, Ciri embarks on the path to unlocking the depths of her powers and what it means to be Child of the Elder Blood.
I only need to excerpt "Focus, Zireael. Patience." to prove how classic this fanfic is. The writer recreated the whole event of Ava's sudden appearance to save Ciri from Eredin, and their subsequent escape, from both Ciri and Ava's perspectives. Both the extremely respectful writing of the original and the psychological changes between them. From the horse ride to the beach kiss, the confession to the breakup and the hug in the latest chapter, there are so many scenes in this fanfic that makes my heart flutter.
The Swallow and the Fox by Gvalchca
Rated: E
Status: Unfinished
Language: English
Summary: Before she was Lady of Time and Space, Ciri was bound to the world of the Aen Elle by Avallac'h. What events transpired to transform Avallac'h from Ciri's captor into her protector, mentor, and potentially lover? This story takes place following the book "Lady of the Lake" and continues into the events of Witcher 3.
This is the first fanfic I've read that describeb Eredin's ascension to the throne after Auberon's death and his confrontation with Avallac'h. Likewise, this is a complete story of how Ava rescued Ciri. I especially like the fact that Ciri is a fierce character, never one who is willing to stay put and be saved. This is considered the most popular among the first few cirillac'h fanfics.
Per tempus et Spatium by HartaNonErubiscit
Rated: E
Status: Unfinished
Language: Russian
Summary: The world demands salvation. The world has a savior. But who will save her herself?
This is the longest cirillac'h fanfic I've ever read, with 66 chapters, and it's not finished yet. It's also one of the most comprehensive fanfics I've ever read about Ava and Ciri's travels in different worlds, with about 3 worlds in total. The author has a lot of descriptions that explore their psychology, and I was often moved by some of the phrases.
I'm making this recommendation in the hope that it will give some of the new cirillac'h shippers a fanfic reading list to refer to. Just because I haven't listed some other fanfics doesn't mean they're bad. There are several good cirillac'h fanfics on AO3 this year, only I won't list them all here. As a writer who has written some cirillac'h fanfics, I am clearly aware of the low feedback caused by cirillac'h's not being so popular, so I am very grateful to all the writers who have written cirillac'h fanfics. You are all the best and you have no idea how many people are inspired by your contributions. The truth is always in the hands of the few. One day cirillac'h will make the public have to look the other way!

I always read fics in English (despite not being a native speaker) and was wondering if there's a way to search Ao3 by language without starting from a specific fandom. Now, I don't have much hope of finding fics in my pairings/fandoms written in my native tongue (which is Slavic and not widely spoken), but I'm genuinely curious to see what fics are available and keen to give them some love if any are readable. I know there's Ficbook for Russian, but we have nothing comparable.
Also, is anyone else fascinated by the changing tastes in different fandomscapes (sorry Appadurai, I'm coining a -scape)? I can't tell you how many times I've found an enemies-to-lovers rarepair and run out of fics in English only to find a treasure trove in Russian that I couldn't read. The taste!
Part of me wants to learn Russian (since my language uses the Cyrillic alphabet) just so I can read all the angsty smut.
--
Russian would be one of the best after English just based on fic production, yeah.
The way to find all the fics in language X is via the works search. You'll get the crappy search results and not the nice, filterable version though. Personally, for this kind of thing, I usually start with a big tag. Don't forget that 'm/m', warnings, ratings, and the like are also tags. (A pity that languages aren't!)
81 fics in Bulgarian
35 M/M fics in Belarusian
I'd start with the first kind of search just to make sure fics exist at all and move on to the second if there are enough that you want the sidebar filters.

Fic Ask
Thanks for the tag, @yoyobroworld! I pressurelessly tag @jawanaka and @mangocats and @angels-heap.
Under a cut for length and what my millennial sense of self-esteem insists to me is obscene braggadocio.
How many works do you have on AO3? Twenty-one . . . once I post With Horn and Leash (Kingdom Come: Deliverance).
What’s your total AO3 word count? 792310. Need . . . new . . . hobby . . .
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Words Unanswered (Tolkien) A Strange Hunt (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) Lost in the Trees (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) Desert of Ghosts (Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines) Black Coffee (Half-Life: Blue Shift) Black Coffee is approx. ten years old and does not deserve its slot, but I’m grateful it still sees an occasional reader.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I try to always say thanks! The only comments I don’t respond to are the ones I delete (i.e., comments that contain obvious bigotry or abusive language). Fortunately, those don’t come along too often.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I love to write angst, but this question made me realize that very few of my fics have angsty endings. Even the sad endings are usually heavier on love and hope than angst.
Looking at endings alone, it’s probably Running on Faith (The Walking Dead).
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? Right now, I say Lost in the Trees (Kingdom Come: Deliverance). It’s going to be Fortune Favors the Bold (Kingdom Come: Deliverance), but that fic will get MUCH sadder/more violent before it ends happy. I just can’t seem to do anything too permanently mean to poor Henry of Skalitz.
Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the strangest one you’ve written? So far, it’s not really for me.
Have you ever received hate on a fic? (D)efinitely not! (R)e(A)ders a(GON)ize over such comments, (A)nd no (G)amer would ever send hat(E)! 🙃
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I don’t shy away from sex scenes, but the stuff I've flagged "E" still probably doesn't qualify as smut.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? A few times, usually via shady reposting sites. These days, I write in itty-bitty fandoms, so this never felt like a serious threat to me.
Have you ever had a fic translated? There are two lovely Russian translations of Regaining Balance (Thief: The Dark Project) on Ficbook, and the very talented @yoyobroworld translated In Caes of Disastur (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) into Czech. I think there is a Russian translation of In Spring (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) and a Chinese translation of The Jackal (Thief: The Metal Age) in the works.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Just informally with buddies, mostly in the VTMB fandom. I don’t think any of those stories are publicly available, but I had a great time working on them.
What’s your all-time favorite ship? I don’t have the brainpower to mentally sift through all the stories I’ve ever read/watched/etc., so I’m going to constrain my answer to ships I’ve written about. 😂 Morrigan/Warden (Dragon Age) is my guilty pleasure but I won’t admit it. I fucking love Hans Capon and Henry’s relationship from Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and Theresa/Henry is top quality, too.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? I’m probably never going back to BioWare IP stories. I’m sad about it, but neither Dragon Age nor Mass Effect grip me like they used to. I’ve really disliked the narrative/creative direction of both these worlds lately, and unless there’s a massive writing team shakeup, I doubt this will change any time soon.
What are your writing strengths? I think I have a keen musical ear for sentence flow and variation. I like to think I’m good at letting emotions seep into prose. I’m also pretty good at titles, which didn’t come naturally.
What are your writing weaknesses? My dialogue is chronically overwritten. I’m always pruning back speeches during editing and cutting reams of chatter. People just don’t say that much in one go! It's difficult for me to keep my eye on the greater conversational ball and I often drop the leash. I’m trying to get a better internal sense for balancing my active scenes with summary passages. This is an element of structure; it has taken me years to improve and I'm still working on it. Middles are hard for me. I find beginnings and endings much easier to write than middles. Middles are a slog.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Not sure why this would be a universal problem? You don’t want to switch languages just to be pretentious, obviously, and it can be really othering/awkward if you don’t actually know what you’re doing. But if you have a good reason and your language skills are competent, then why not?
What was the first fandom you wrote for? Thief: The Dark Project! It was a dorky story about Lieutenant Mosley abandoning her office and (natch) enlisting Garrett's help to free an imprisoned witness involved in a grand anti-pagan murder plot. This fic never saw the internet light of day, and I'm relieved for that, let me tell you.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? A Strange Hunt (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) is my best fic. Instead of Stars (Half-Life 2) wishes it could be A Strange Hunt. It cannot.

General Reminder
My transformative works statement, as on my profile on AO3:
My work is explicitly available for translations, podding, vidding, bookbinding, and traditional or digital art. Please drop me a note with a link so I can share!
For remixes, please email me for specifics.
The only thing I do not approve is reposting my fics as they are to other sites. I post solely to AO3. I give open permissions to post translations to Wattpad, Weibo, Lofter, Ficbook, and several other sites. Due to the way FF.net treats users and the long history of purges, as well as their TOS against explicit works, I don't use or approve of that site. Please no translations posted there.
