I'm an Azula defender til the day I die. She deserved a redemption arc of some kind. She deserved canon acknowledgement of how fucked her childhood was. We deserved to see her grow and get better and develop healthy relationships with people.

It actually would've been so cool to see her get better and then not have every single person forgive her. Her learning that she is not owed forgiveness even if she changes actually would've been a really cool lesson to see in the comics.

Me: ...Well, Zuko changed so why can’t she get a chance?

Antis: Uh- she was born evil! She had no empathy!

Me: My guy, she was raised by literal Ozai and was neglected by her mom along with Iroh. Zuko could’ve been the same and so could’ve ANYONE. That was the whole point of that one episode showing Roku’s backstory. She’s also still only 14 in the finale and 16 in the comics.

Antis: Erm- uh...She rejected redemption! Yeah- she’s pure evil for that!

Me: Zuko rejected redemption in season 2. But he still changed.

Hmmm which characters do you think would get the best along with Azula?

Honestly? If they got allong with Zuko they'd simply love Azula. Her charisma is +++100000

But Toph and Katara, specially. Katara and Azula's parallels are so obvious I won't even ellaborate, but people often forget that Toph was the golden girl before running away. She was exactly the same as Azula, but where Azula was demanded to be strong, Toph had to act as an innocent and helpless little girl.

People say Aang would be the one to help Azula out of her shell, or even point out Zuko, but if anyone knows what Azula went through, that person is Toph. The others know abuse, but only these two were ever confronted with the addictive pain of conditional love.
