Pronunciation Guide for Fighting Games
A lot of people tend to say words and names wrong. For those who care, this guide should help with proper pronunciation. In particular, what syllables are stressed, proper spelling, and so on. This'll help you not look and sound like ignorant gaijin (gai-jeen) when talking to Asian players.
Again, if this doesn't bother you (and I acknowledge that for the vast majority of the FGC it doesn't), feel free to ignore this guide. Just don't get on everyone else's case, please. Also, don't use this guide to act smug towards your peers.
In short, this is to help people who want to be helped. That's all. Please understand. If there are any mistakes, let me know.
Note: Unfortunately, Mortal Kombat will be ignored for this guide, as saying Japanese words wrong is a franchise tradition, so it'd be a lost cause even trying. If you see any familiar words from that series, just bear in mind the proper pronunciation for everywhere else.
Letters/syllables in bold are sounds to be stressed when saying that word or name, if necessary.

Kuumba (Creativity):
Kuumba pronounced koo-OOM-bah, it translates to "Creativity" in Swahili. The essence of Kuumba is to always do as much as we can, in the way we can, to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. This principle is not just about artistic creativity but also about innovating and problem-solving in ways that enhance the community.
This principle of creativity is embedded in the cultural practices of African societies and is seen as a way to honor the legacy of the ancestors by building upon and enriching it for future generations.
Kwanzaa's celebration of Kuumba goes beyond the arts. It encompasses everyday problem-solving and innovative thinking in various aspects of life, including business and community development. By lighting the candle on the Kinara, the community acknowledges and celebrates the role of creativity in building a strong and vibrant society.

English to Furbish to toki pona ““dictionary””
today, i learned that Furbish is actually kinda a language?? after reading this post by @favoriteanimal and skimming this wiki page, i naturally decided to try to translate all the Furbish words and phrases into my beloved toki pona. oh boy was it a journey!
overall, i feel like toki pona is a much more flexible + efficient little language in comparison to Furbish. the main issue that irked me was the amount of unnecessary variations of the same concept, but made into 3 or more words! (i think this may just be the toki ponist in me.) i’m also not certain, but it seems like Furbish may be a relex?? someone please let me know, if ya know!
however, Furbish still succeeds in what (i believe) it sets out to do: to be a very cute, baby-sounding language that can be used to express many interactions between pet + owner / baby + guardian.
please note:
i was quite tired + made this in the span of about 3 hours!
i am not a toki pona expert and have little experience with Furbies
toki pona is best expressed in context and sometimes requires multiple sentences to convey an idea, so many of these don’t work well to be translated as abstract concepts.
i used some non-standard words (both non-pu and non-ku suli)
if i’ve made any mistakes, please kindly correct me! if you think a phrase could be better expressed a different way, feel free to share!

Prince for Hire Pronunciation Guide
Some of the names and whatnot in Prince for Hire kinda look intimidating (...Nelovskevouk...), so after ages, I figured I’d put together a loose pronunciation guide!
The general rule of thumb is that everything is pronounced exactly as it looks. Whatever floats your boat works for me. But here’s generally how I’ve been doing it, below the cut.
Tagging the taglist because worldbuilding stuff: @cactusmotif, @houndsofcorduff, @whimsyqueen, @on-noon, @paradisiacalshroud. Also, some of the previous language development/alphabet stuff is over here.
First off, the alphabet. The only tricky letters here are the ‘C,’ the ‘J,’ and the ‘Y.’ The ‘C’ sound (2nd column, 2nd row) only appears at the front of words, and is basically an ‘S,’ like in ‘silo.’ The ‘J’ sound (2nd column, 3rd row) is more of a ‘y’ sound, like in ‘yarn’ (or ‘bjorn’). Lastly, the ‘Y’ sound (2nd column, 4th row) is pronounced as ‘aye’ (aye aye, captain!) except when at the front of words, where it is pronounced as ‘ee’ (like eek).
Tumblr media
[image id: a conlang alphabet organized by row and column with spiky, m-looking letters written in pen on graph paper /end id]
Some exceptions to the call it as you see it thing: a word/name ending in a ‘k’ that is not doubled will drop that ‘k’ sound (as in: kulok = koo-low, not kulok = koo-lock). Doubled letters (as in iiriok, thaav, vuun, etc.) give extra stress.
Although there’s some other non-standard pronunciations (and sounds not touched upon by anything in Prince), for the purposes of Prince for Hire, that’s all you need to know to pronounce things just fine--at least, for things originating in the Novgor Plateau. Obviously the Turre, Aghran, and Musmiel pronunciation conventions are going to be a smidge different.
Below are some of the more frequent names and places in Prince for Hire.
Tumblr media
Kiris Avkonin = Kear-ihs Ahv-kohn-in
Yphant na Suem = Ee-phant na Sew-em
Iiriok Nelovskevouk = Eerie-ohk Neh-loave-skeh-vouk
Batar ni Musyr = B’tar nee Moo-sear
Kaar Kulok = Kar Koo-low
Orjiar Thaav = Or-jyar Thawv
Duvutriok Vuun = Dew-voo-tree-ohk Voon
Kysminov Evina = Kayes-min-ohv Eh-veen-a
Martarez Nazvili = Mar-tar-ez Nat-zvee-lee
Aris of Krigover (Krigovervk) = Air-ihs Krih-goh-vorvk
Eskarez = Es-kah-rez
Trusov = True-sahv
(some Turre names)
Bascia = Bah-schya
‘L Tuola Turre = Luh To-oh-la To-ray
Ta Ritasa = Tah Ree-tah-sah
Sciombattor’ Ougle = Shohm-bah-tor’ We-gleh
(some place names)
Dargoulvga = Dar-gohlv-ga
Msvoulga = Mis-vohl-ga
Strauv = Strauv (rhymes with ‘ow’)
Cym = Saim (like ‘sign’)

🖌LOO LOO-LAY - 08/04/2022 🎨 Noo-loo Kay-tay Noh-bah / Kinetic smile
by Tianita Miramax
Loo Loo-Lay is a young artist who likes to work with black wee-tah wah-tah (*ink). Autodidact, they started doing portraits of furbz in the streets of their natal town Koo Way-loh, where they drew the attention of Dee-Mak, founder of the May-bee gallery. What has interested him was Loo’s natural ability to capture life, as fragmented instants of lucidity. The exhibition is entitled “Noo-Loo Kay-tay Noh-Bah” (*Kinetic Smile) and gather thirty wee-tah wah-tah (*inks) made between 2020 and 2022, Let’s go !
🐾
Tianita: Hello Loo ! Congratulation for your exhibition, which is visible at the May-bee gallery until June ! It must be exciting to show your work like this ?
Loo Loo-Lay: Yes ! that is a huge event for me ! I never had an exhibition before, i started doing art because it was the only thing i was good at… My family encouraged me, but it was not always easy to earn money… I think this is a big chance for me !
T: Can you describe your practice for our readers ? What inspires you ?
L: I like seeing the others, people that i know and that i don’t… I work mostly outside, i have my bag full of paper sheets that i lay on the ground, and i use my brush or a pen to create original pictures. I love doing furb faces, the eyes, the beak, they are very expressive !
T: I saw your portraits, and something very basic was questioning me : you look very colourful but you work in black and white ? Is there something to see here ?
L: Haha ! Yes i did self-portraits in black and white which is not really accurate ! I don’t really know why… I guess i really like black ink ! (laughs) I think it has this power of enlightening the dark in everyone…
People often assume that i’m always happy because of the colours of my fur, but as many, i have struggles and anxiety to deal with. I’m not saying that i’m a sad artist working on pain and stuff but using black and white allows me to go deeper in the inside. For me, it’s like diving in an alternative universe of emotions, a more direct path to someone history. Wee-tah Wah-tah is commonly used to write words, when you draw with it, it has a meaning, you tell a story. You work with contrasts, simplicity. You strike directly under the fur.
T: yeah, i get it, no artifice. That’s true, your portraits leave a feeling of sincerity, purity.
L: I feel a little bad now that i have talked about darkness, because i don’t want people to think my work is depressing…! I like to quickly capture what my eyes can not see when i look at a furb. It’s a gesture, very instinctive, and the water helps me adding some nuances, some blur, to leave a kind of intimacy to the furbz who are portrayed. “Kinetic Smile” is an expression to go behind the act of smiling, when people are posing for example, this can be a mechanic reflex hiding something else, not always negative, but something else.
 T: Don’t worry ! I can testify that your exhibition has nothing sad or depressing ! What i understand is that you want to go beyond the appearances. The result is very dreamy, i could easily forget the world outside looking at your paintings. The furbz almost become landscapes…
L: Yes ! I like to imagine that each person has their own inner map, inner land… Sometimes, the models let me see those personal spaces and that is what i enjoy the most when i work ! They are precious gifts… I want to keep up the effort to translate them on the canvas !
T: Thank you very much Loo ! I wish you the best for the future and i highly recommend your exhibition which is full of surprises !! My tah-tah way-lah is telling me that we are not done hearing about you !

Just Another Among Us Tragedy
       It wasn't supposed to be like this.
       It wasn't supposed to be this hard.
       He had wanted to steal the little orange space man; he hadn't expected the ship to take off with him on it. And he hadn't expected the others. He didn't like the others. The others were bubbly and happy and always in the way.
       And he was acting just like them to talk to their space man.
       The orange space man's name was Bah Koo Go, and he was an Ass Tro Not. He liked to mix chemicals in the lab, but now that they were on the ship he preferred the engine room, where it was loud and dark and the big nuclear machine made sparks. And he was loud and moody too, so the space fit him.
       And he had a name now too! The nametag said Ae Gee Ro, and it was very red. Bah Koo Go seemed to like it. He spent a lot of time with Ae Gee Ro. He smiled a lot, but only when the others weren't around.
       Ick, the others. The green one was so annoying, following the pair around all the time, babbling about chores needing done and whining 'Kacchan' 'Kacchan' 'Kacchan' all day.
       Thank the stars he never had to hear that high-pitched squeaky voice again.
        And then the two blue ones with the loud voices and unnecessary jumpiness--they were thankfully gone too. One's voice gave Ae Gee Ro a headache, and the other was far too sparkly.
       "Ei? You back here?" Bah Koo Go called into the cockpit, and Ae Gee Ro purred in satisfaction. He had gotten hungry and gone of to search for food, but now he was covered in a thin layer of dust that needed to be shaken off, and for whatever reason his suit was dripping. It was gross.
       "Coming!" He called back, happily rounding the corner with a big grin, overjoyed to see the handsome blonde sky traveller waiting in the hall for him. "Hello, Kat'ski!"
       "Hey, you," Bah Koo Go smiled, though it looked a little forced. Den Key must have said something awful to him again. "C'mon. You're late for lunch."
       "Okay!"
       Bah Koo Go seemed to flinch at his happiness, but that wasn't unusual. He wasn't a very happy human, so sometimes loud excitement made him grumpier. Still, he took Ae's hand and led him down the hall way, past the closed door of the oxygen room, and into the cafeteria. Show Toe, the white space man with white-red hair, already sat at the table, looking tired. He always looked like that now.
       Ever since they'd found Deh Koo's mangled corpse in the storage unit.
       Den Key and Sair Ro hovered in the doorway to med bay and the left side of the ship not far away, and Gee Ro had tucked herself into a ball in the corner by the trash can. The small purple space female was sobbing.
       The pink suit stomped up to the table next to Show Toe, slamming her helmet down on the surface so that brown hair bobbed in her face. "What have you done?" She seethed, talking much too fast for Ae Gee Ro to really understand, but he knew enough to know she wasn't happy with him. "Deku, Iida, Aoyama, and now Momo? What the hell is wrong with you, Kirishima? We know it's you!"
       "That's not Kirishima. Not anymore." Bakugo jumped to his defense! Just like... just like he always had. Right? "The real Kirishima was his first target. He's... he's dead. Ei's dead."
       Ae Gee Ro tilted his head, confused. "No?" He pointed at himself. "Ae here. Not dead."
       "Nice try," Den Key growled, and the sudden hostility caught Ae Gee Ro off guard. The blonde yellow Ass Tro Not had never been anything but nice. Not anything like that Moh Moh bitch who tried to tell Kat'ski he was fake. There was a reason she had ended up as lunch.
       Sair Ro held up a glittery black chain just long enough to fit around an arm. It was matted and clumped with dried blood. "This was Kiri's. He never took it off. We already typed the blood. It's his too."
       "You killed him!" Den Key screamed, stomping further into the room. "He was our friend--Deku and Iida, Momo, and Yuga--they were all our friends! They had families! Lovers! And you slaughtered them, you murderer!"
       Ae Gee Ro lunged at him, furious at the accusation, but Bah Koo Go clung to him, pulling him back. He was crying, silent tears streaking down his face. They made Kat'ski cry.
       Sair Ro grinned with hysteria. "You just tried to do it again. What were you gonna do? Kill him to keep him quiet? Let us take you home to Earth so you could devour the planet? Jokes on you buddy, we caught you on camera. The Interterestrial Station already knows you're on board. Even if you kill us all, they'll blow you to pieces before you entered the atmosphere."
       Ae Gee Ro whimpered, straining against Bah Koo Go's hold. He turned back to his space traveler hopelessly. "Help?"
       "Why should I help you?" Bah Koo Go was so quiet when he spoke that he almost wasn't heard. He took Ae Gee Ro by the arm and began to lead him out of the room, through the doorway no one was blocking. Deh Koo's blood was still smeared across the unit because they hadn't found enough chemicals to clean it up without poisoning themselves. "Why should I help you?" He repeated slowly. "You took away my best friend, the love of my life. You tried to take his place. You mangled the person I could call my oldest friend."
       "He annoyed you," Ae Gee Ro reasoned.
       "He was Deku. He was stupid and a crybaby, but he was my friend, and you killed him."
       Oh. "I'm sorry."
       "Sorry won't bring him back," Bah Koo Go snapped. "Sorry won't bring anyone back." Reaching forward, the blonde snapped off one of the tight funny feeling gloves that built the space suit and pried it off Ae Gee Ro's hand, next tugging a useless band of silver metal off his finger. Tearing up again, he reach for the large bar that opened the trash. "Sorry won't bring back my husband, you lousy imposter."
       And then he pulled the switch, and space had never felt more lonely.
~End~
