Cash Against Documents: A Practical Tool for Global Trade
In international trade, doing business across borders brings both opportunity and risk. One of the biggest concerns for exporters is getting paid, especially when dealing with buyers in new markets. At the same time, buyers don’t want to pay before goods are shipped. A practical solution that balances both sides is Cash Against Documents (CAD). CAD is a payment method where the seller ships the…

Strengthening Travel Data Collection in Eswatini: Global Insights and Local Action from ITC Day 2 Training
Introduction
On April 9, 2025, the International Trade Centre (ITC) hosted the second day of its specialized training in Eswatini, focusing on strengthening the collection and integration of travel service data. The training, part of a broader initiative to foster trade integration in Africa, emphasized the importance of accurate travel statistics in compiling a country’s Balance of Payments (BoP) and making informed policy decisions.
Understanding the Complexity of Travel Data
Travel services stand out from other services in international trade because they involve direct interactions between travelers and service providers. Capturing this data accurately is a challenge for many developing countries due to high costs, technical complexities, and fragmented data sources.
The ITC highlighted multiple data collection methods, including:
Personal and Household Surveys
Enterprise and Establishment Surveys
International Transactions Reporting Systems (ITRS)
Administrative Records (e.g., immigration, health, and education)
Operational Data from payment cards and mobile networks
Best Practices from Around the World
Participants explored successful case studies such as Algeria’s detailed ITRS classification system, which includes over 20 specific travel transaction categories. Italy’s visitor survey methodology was also presented, offering detailed expenditure breakdowns and capturing valuable insights into tourist behavior. Spain and Germany demonstrated how integrating mobile data and credit card transactions can enhance the granularity of travel statistics.
Local Contributions and Presentations
Three key national institutions shared valuable insights during the workshop:
Central Bank of Eswatini – Presented by Khetsiwe Dlamini-Maziya Highlighted legal frameworks, monthly travel service data from ITRS, and challenges such as misclassification. Emphasized cooperation with the Central Statistical Office (CSO) and the importance of seamless data sharing.
Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) – ETA Surveys & Stats Presentation Provided an overview of tourism-related surveys, including the Exit Survey, Day Visitor Survey, and Event Impact Surveys. These tools are central to measuring tourist behavior and destination performance.
Central Statistical Office (CSO) – Presented by Philile Mdluli Focused on hotel and accommodation statistics, data collection frequency, and challenges in working with tourism establishments. Noted issues like high staff turnover and lack of standardized data systems, proposing both short- and long-term digital solutions.
These presentations emphasized the critical role of local data collection and inter-agency cooperation in enhancing the quality and reliability of tourism statistics.
Challenges and Solutions
Key issues identified included the misclassification of travel expenses, timing mismatches between payment and service delivery, and low response rates in enterprise and household surveys.
Solutions discussed included:
Enhancing the granularity of ITRS codes
Leveraging mobile tracking and payment data
Improving survey designs and interviewer training
Strengthening confidentiality and legal frameworks
Encouraging inter-agency collaboration
Data Integration and Coordination
A strong focus was placed on integrating multiple data sources to avoid duplication and ensure completeness. The training encouraged structured cooperation between statistical offices, financial institutions, and telecom providers. Formal agreements and shared protocols were highlighted as essential tools.
Eswatini’s Path Forward
As Eswatini works to improve its travel data infrastructure, the ITC training provided practical tools and exposure to international best practices. The national presentations reinforced the country's existing strengths and pointed to opportunities for innovation in legal, technical, and operational areas.
Conclusion
Day 2 of the ITC training reinforced the critical role of accurate travel data in national statistics. Through better methodologies, inter-agency cooperation, and the integration of modern data technologies, Eswatini is well positioned to improve tourism intelligence and support sustainable growth in the sector.

No cash, no problem
Summary- Y/N can't afford to pay Eddie for the night, but he has a different payment in mind
⚠️smut- oral sex and fingering ( age gap but it's all legal )
Single milf!reader x babysitter!Eddie
~~~
Eddie struggled to find a job, he did his dealing but he also wanted a job so Wayne could know where the money came from. But based on his appearance and reputation in the town, not many gave him the opportunity.
Then he met a stressed-out mom in a store. Way in over her head and struggling to keep her three kids in check. He helped that day and now months later, he found himself their babysitter.
Eddie adored Y/N and her kids. He met her ex, he was a total dick and a shitty dad. The kids loved him, he got along the best with the two boys. They talked about movies and video games. He got along with everyone and he had a good relationship with Y/N.
Eddie had all the kids down for bed by the time Y/N arrived. He sat on the couch as he watched the TV low. He watched as she bent over to take off her heels. She sighed deeply and ran her hand through her hair.
"Stressful night?" Eddie asked, his voice causing her to jump and turn around. A relieved smile as she noticed it was Eddie. He muted the TV as she walked over. He eyed her dress, the way her body looked amazing. Her curves are more at notice with the tightness of the material. Her perfume smelled amazing and she looked gorgeous.
"You have no idea," she groaned, she began to dig around in her purse. Eddie assumed for cash for the night.
"Tried a date, right? Complete asshole, who didn't even pay for dinner. Then doesn't drive me home so I had to take a cab," her voice got more stressed as she dug around in her purse faster. "Which now I realize I gave the last amount of my cash to the driver and now can't pay my fucking babysitter." She groaned, throwing her purse on the floor.
Eddie held back a small laugh at her mini meltdown. "It's alright, Y/N. Don't worry about it." He said.
"No! You do so much for us and deserve to be paid. I mean you got Ben an A on his project, and Kasey won't shut up about you. I think she's in love. And Jack adores you. I mean you do more than their father." She ranter, steering away from the topic. "Can I double it next time? Or I can write a check?" She struggled to find a solution and she was so frantic about it. Eddie couldn't help but watch her fall apart.
"Those are all fine. Or honestly, it can be on me. It sounds like a shitty night." Eddie offered, he stood up, his body up close next to hers. He felt his fingers inching towards her before his brain knew.
"I need a bath then I'll be fine. But I'm still paying you some way." She smiled gently at him as she touched his arm. A short way to show her affection and a promise. She went to move away but Eddie moved faster. His hand grabbed her arm, and he brought her hand up to his mouth. He watched as she froze and sucked in the air. Her mouth slightly opened.
"I think I know a way you can pay me. A slightly different method." He whispered, then he took her ring finger, one that used to have a band around, and slowly put it in his mouth. He was crossing a huge boundary and he prepared for the slap across his face. But instead, she moaned and zoned her eyes in on his mouth as he sucked her finger.
"What's that?" She whispered, her voice cracked and she coughed to try to fix it. Her eyes never left his mouth as he let her finger go with a pop.
"Let me eat," he started, yanking her arm to bring her body smack against his. She stumbled into him but he kept them in balance, "that pretty pussy, momma." He whispered against her lips.
She wasn't sure if she got drunk off her glass of wine or if Eddie was truly hitting on her. He was an attractive boy, but he was just in his twenties and she was ten years older than him. It was way too wrong to feel this turned on.
"The kids." She mumbled, turning her head to look up the stairs. Eddie grabbed her chin and brought her face against his again. His lips were right on top of hers.
"Then you'll have to be quiet then, huh?" He smirked, raising his eyebrows as he challenged her.
"But..." She trailed off. She tried to wrap her brain for an argument but she felt like her brain shut off.
"You say stop, and I'll stop. Let me make you feel good, take away your stress. Feast on you like you've never felt. Not by that loser ex-husband and not that loser from tonight." His dirty words made her submit. A little pleasure wouldn't kill her and he was of age. And based on the hardness she felt against her thigh, it was something he wanted.
She nodded and allowed his lips to smash on hers. She gasped as he slammed her against the wall and his hands immediately slipped under her dress. She moved her tongue into his mouth and her hands went in his hair. She was rough and tugged. Harder each time she heard the growling sound he made.
She moaned against his tongue as his fingers moved her underwear aside, and his fingers fucked into her. Her head fell back and his mouth latched on her neck. She cradled his head as she began to ride his fingers. She bit down on her bottom lip to keep quiet, not trying to scar her children for life.
She gripped his hair harder when his thumb rubbed her clit and his teeth sunk into her flesh.
She got her breath back when he pulled away, but her break didn't last long. He dropped to his knees and pulled her leg over his shoulder. He growled at the sight of her wet pussy, pulsing and asking for more. He didn't need the extra wetness, but he still spit right on her clit. A way to mark her as his.
She threw her hand over her mouth the second his tongue was on her clit. He knew just how to suck and flick. He made her knees shake. His fingers were back inside of her as he sucked on her clit.
Eddie loved the taste of her on his tongue. She was sweet and way better than he imagined. He couldn't deny the amount of times he thought of doing this. And the many nights he craved to taste her just like this.
He didn't care to be clean, he was messy and sloppy. His tongue moved between her folds to taste every inch, removing his fingers just to circle his tongue inside. Her body arched off the wall and he could feel her digging at his roots.
Eddie moved his tongue back up to her clit, and his fingers entered her again. He went fast and slipped in three fingers, and then slipped in a fourth one. He felt her snapping before she even made a sound. Four fingers deep as he fucked her and spelled his name with his tongue on her clit, sucking harshly at the very end as she came.
Her body slumped against the wall but he kept his mouth on her, shoving her against the wall and he held her up as he finished tasting her. She was sensitive and shaking but he made sure to lick up every single drop.
She tried to catch her breath when he gently placed her leg back on the ground, he moved her underwear back in place and pushed the underwear against her sensitive clit. She bit back the whine, the material soaked up her wetness. He pushed her dress back down and cleaned off his mouth.
He smirked as he took in her fucked off state. "no cash, no big deal."
Hi there! I'm writing a barista character and got a bit stuck. Do you have any notes on how to write baristas (e.g. what shifts are like; what you have to learn to be one, etc)? Thank you so much!
(Your posts here are invaluable, by the way, and super helpful. 😄)
Writing Notes: Barista
Barista - specializes in making a variety of coffee and espresso beverages.
Usually works in a cafe, coffee shop or bookstore where they take customer orders, complete transactions and serve drinks.
May also prepare and serve a few small meals and pastry options.
Day-to-Day Tasks
As a barista, you would:
prepare the premises or outlet ready for opening
welcome customers, take orders and process payments
prepare and serve coffees, hot snacks, sandwiches and cakes
clean and tidy work areas, equipment and coffee machines
check and order new stock
Preparing Beverages. One of the barista’s primary duties is preparing various drinks to meet customer preferences. This involves:
Crafting Espresso-Based Drinks: Baristas skillfully pull espresso shots, steam milk, and create drinks like cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiatos. They ensure each beverage has the perfect balance of flavor and texture.
Brewing Specialty Coffees: Many coffee shops offer pour-over coffees, cold brews, or French press options. Baristas must understand brewing methods, grind size, and extraction techniques to achieve the desired flavor profile.
Creating Latte Art: For many customers, presentation matters as much as taste. Baristas often add intricate designs, such as hearts or rosettas, to elevate the visual appeal of lattes and cappuccinos.
Customizing Orders: Customize drinks to customer preferences by adjusting sweetness levels, switching to non-dairy milk, or adding extra espresso shots.
Other barista duties may include:
Welcoming patrons to the shop
Building a relationship with regular customers and remembering their orders
Explaining the cafe’s special menu items as necessary
Recommending beverage options if requested
Following recipes and presentation guides to make beverages
Preparing plates or takeaway containers of pastry and food items
Cleaning and maintaining the commercial coffee machine, steamer and blender
Following health and safety policies
Removing dishes from the table as patrons finish their drinks
Preparing checks and taking payment from patrons
Work Environment
Baristas work in a variety of coffee shops with the following characteristics:
Standing and walking around for extended periods of time
Lifting and carrying food and drink trays to tables
Working near many other customers, servers and kitchen staff
Wearing a uniform if required by the restaurant
Working environment may be noisy
Typical Hours
40 to 42 hours (variable) per week
Evenings / Weekends / Holidays (on shifts)
Cafes and coffee shops typically open early in the mornings
May require baristas to be flexible with scheduling to meet customer demand
The work can be fast-paced during busy periods
Suitable job for students and part-time workers
Career Path & Progression
There may also be opportunities to move into:
barista staff training
equipment maintenance
coffee tasting and buying
product development and marketing
You could become self-employed and open your own coffee shop.
With experience, you could become a:
store manager, then
regional manager, with a coffee retail chain or franchise.
Pros & Cons
Pros
Flexible Hours: Perfect for students or part-time workers.
Skill Development: Learn customer service, multitasking, and coffee expertise.
Social Interaction: Build relationships with customers and colleagues.
Career Growth: Opportunities to advance into management or specialty coffee roles.
Cons
Physical Demands: Standing for long periods and repetitive motions.
Irregular Hours: Early mornings, weekends, and holidays are typical.
Modest Pay: Entry-level wages can be low, though tips often help.
How to Become a Barista
You can get into this job through: a college course; an apprenticeship; applying directly; training with a professional body.
College. Although not essential, you could do a college course that would give you some of the skills needed for this role. Courses include:
barista skills
food and beverage service
retail skills
Apprenticeship. You can apply to do a Hospitality Team Member Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship.
This will usually take 12 months to complete
A mix of on-the-job training and time spent with a college or training provider
Direct Application. When you start, your employer will put you through training in barista skills and product knowledge. Some employers may prefer you to have experience in customer service, retail sales or catering.
Common Personality Traits
22,778 baristas were surveyed to learn what personality traits and interests make them unique. Based on the Holland Codes:
Baristas tend to be predominantly conventional individuals, meaning that they are usually detail-oriented and organized, and like working in a structured environment.
They also tend to be realistic, which means that they often enjoy working outdoors or applying themselves to a hands-on project.
Based on The Big Five:
Baristas score highly on openness, which means they are usually curious, imaginative, and value variety.
They also tend to be high on the measure of extraversion, meaning that they rely on external stimuli to be happy, such as people or exciting surroundings.
Barista Tools
Baristas use a wide variety of tools to complete their duties. Some common tools:
Espresso Machine. Allows you to brew highly concentrated black coffee. During this process, the machine forces pressurized hot water through finely grounded coffee. Some types of drinks you can make using an espresso machine include: Macchiato; Cafe latte; Cappuccino; Mocha; Affogato; and Americano
Frothing Steam Pitcher. Used to create any drink that requires milk. A frothing stream pitcher helps you create a milk foam to top off a cup of coffee. You can also use this type of pitcher to create an assortment of latte art. Frothing pitchers are stainless steel and feature a handle and pouring spout. A narrow spout can offer control when pouring latte art, such as a heart or rose. You can also find frothing pitchers in different sizes, depending on the amount of milk you want to froth.
Foam Frothing Spoon. After creating foam from a steam pitcher, you can use a foam frothing spoon to control how much foam you pour over a cup of coffee. Using a frothing spoon can prevent spilling that may occur when pouring the foam into a cup of coffee. This type of spoon features a flat tip that makes it easier to scoop only foam from a steaming pitcher.
Thermometer. When making espresso, it's important to consider the brewing temperature, along with that of the milk froth. If your espresso machine doesn't come with a proportional-integral-derivative, use a thermometer to measure espresso as it leaves the brew head.When making a drink that requires steamed milk, it's important for the milk to reach the ideal temperature of about 149 degrees Fahrenheit. To reach this temperature, consider using a frothing thermometer for complete accuracy. A frothing thermometer can also help you avoid burning the milk while ensuring a caramelized milk finish that can elevate the flavor of any coffee.
Commercial Coffee Maker. This type of coffee maker lets you brew a standard cup of coffee. After filling it with water and coffee grounds, a coffee maker filters hot water through a basket holding coffee grounds. After filtering, black coffee enters the coffee pot. You can use this black coffee for a standard cup of coffee or for other drinks such as an iced coffee or latte.
Tamper. Baristas use tampers to brew espresso, whether in a machine or through a stovetop espresso maker. A tamper lets you pack loosely dosed coffee grounds so they're tightly pressed, ensuring a quality espresso shot. You can also adjust the length of a tamper depending on the espresso dosage.
Scale. Helps you achieve a consistent and accurately measured espresso shot. In terms of measurement, a scale helps you determine the amount of beans you use for one shot. If you use a quality grinder with a doser, you may not need a scale.
Coffee Grinder. Grinds fresh coffee beans before the brewing process. A coffee grinder lets you grind as much coffee as needed, whether for an espresso shot or a large batch of coffee. Many coffee grinders have conical burrs that let you select the size of your coffee grounds.
Graves Circumstance
Part 1 | Navigation
TW: violence against reader, runaway reader, mentions of abuse let me know if I should include anything else
Graves was on the road, taking some long needed leave. He was tired and had some Shadows who needed some assistance and wanted some leave themselves. Graves was on the road from helping one of his boys with moving his family. The Shadow couldn’t pay for his help, but his wife made cookies, and honestly that was payment enough.
The dark road ahead and the cloudy sky above, it wasn’t perfect, but it was bad enough to make his way home. Surrounding him were trees and snow, thankfully no wind yet. He didn’t mind driving in the winter, the truck could take it.
As he continued driving he spotted a figure on the road, walking rather oddly. They were wrapped in a blanket, and it looked rather chilly, with their legs bare and barefooted. Their feet shuffled and stepped like an amateur on a balance beam. The next town wasn’t for a few miles yet. Wait were those cuts on their legs? As he got closer he slowed down somewhat. Once he passed them he checks his side mirror and practically slammed on the brakes.
Graves got out of his truck and the figure stopped, trembling and shivering.
“Hello?” He called. The figure didn’t move, stopped walking too. He kept his distance, and had a hand on his gun. “My name is Phillip Graves, do you need help?”
The figure turned their head, as if contemplating if they should flee back into the woods where god knows what could happen. Especially with the weather being this cold and the bandages over their eyes. Graves could see their feet are pale white and likely in a lot of pain if they weren’t already numb.
“A-are you a cop?” You asked.
“Uh…” Graves hesitation made you step back. “Not exactly. I’m military. I can get you somewhere safe though. Out here there will be more trouble.”
“…promise?” You asked.
“I’m gonna approach you, and take your hand. Get you into my truck and take you to a motel or a police station.”
“…do you promise?” You asked, fear in your voice, stepping back.
“I promise to help you. I’ll help you get somewhere safe, somewhere you can be taken care of, given proper clothes and medical help.” Graves explained. Something or someone did this to you. To make it even more sick you were left out in the middle of the freezing cold with just a thin blanket.
You shuffled towards where you heard his voice. Graves meets the gap, communicating his actions as he led you into the back seat of his truck. Before taking off though he warned you he was getting something from the back. He shut the door, went to the trunk to get some clothes for you out of his bag and then returned to the backseat. He opened the door and found you cowering in the corner. You cried out at the sound of the door opening.
“Hey hey, it’s okay. It’s okay!” Graves tells you. He explains that he got you clothes to put on, not wanting you to walk into a police station with only a blanket. Once again you asked him to promise, and he goes the extra mile to lead your flinching hand to feel the clothes. You were relieved and he gave you some privacy to get them on. If you needed a belt he could find one of his. The clothes would be oversized but it was what he had. You thanked him and got into the clothes while he waited outside.
Graves knocked to see if you were ready and he could come in. He doesn’t go straight to the front seat, instead he checks that your seat belt is on and your blanket is still around you. You were freezing, the blanket would keep hopefully reduce your shivering. Graves asks if he can check for any injuries. You hold out your arm, and he finds precise almost methodical scarring. When he tries to roll up the sleeve further you tense, and he stops. Doctors could help you.
“Alright, you ready to go?” He asked. You nodded. “Got any allergies?”
“N-no?” You answered. You can hear rustling, and he takes your hand placing something into your palm. It feels familiar in way.
“My employee’s wife makes some pretty good cookies. You look like you haven’t eaten much.” He said before shutting the door, and getting to front seat. The heat was turned up high as you pulled your feet up on to the seat. You were hesitant with the cookie, and Graves could see it in the rear view mirror. The main question in his mind: What happened to you?
Graves wasn’t expecting any of this. Hell he called up some of his boys to see if they could ask around about you, see if any missing persons reports came up anywhere. To add to the brighter side, the bandages could be removed from your eyes. They’d healed from whatever damage had been inflicted, and your sight was returned to you. You could see the damage done to you. You gave a long statement to the police but plenty of their questions were answered with “I’m not sure” or “I don’t know”.
The officers were patient, but without proper answers to give you felt overwhelmed. You felt like you were making it all up, like it was some insane nightmare. At one point the officer asking you questions, gave you a minute to process everything, cry it out until you got your answers straight. Graves had left to make the calls to his men. When he came back he went straight to finding the guy who made you have so much doubt. He didn’t hesitate to bark at the officer about it, requesting a different officer come fall to you, one that wasn’t running five 12 hour shifts in a row. You asked Graves if he could stay with you while answering the questions. Honestly Graves had planned to drop you off, make sure you gave your statement, give his own and then leave. Right now you didn’t look like you had a friend in the world. He wasn’t about to walk away.
Hearing everything you had gone through, he doesn’t blame you for memory gaps or difficulty getting the words out. The way you’d been treated made went beyond inhumane. Learning how you got the scars on your arms made his stomach churn. He was glad he’d found you when he did. Graves went an extra step and offered his hand to squeeze if you needed it.
By the end of the whole thing you got treated for any remaining wounds, received some new clothes, and are fed a proper meal. Graves only left a few times to make phone calls, trying to track down any relatives or friends that might have been looking for. He was empty handed.
When he came back in for the fifth time or so the desk officer explained to him that you had two options, stay in a motel or at the police station. Staying in a police station wouldn’t really be comfortable especially one in a small town like this. A motel would be more comfortable but you would need some protection. Graves got you by yourself for a short while to ask what you want. You preferred the motel. Could Graves stay with you?
Any other time Graves would probably have said no. It’s not his thing, if the cops can do it, let them. In this case, he didn’t want to let you stay on your own. Right now, you needed someone close by you could trust, because everytime someone passed behind you, your head would whip around to see who it was. You did double takes for every stranger that came within a five foot radius.
You and Graves are given the basics about the investigation. You would lead them to where you came from, try to retrace your steps and they’d get the dogs out to search. It wouldn’t be easy, but they would try. This of course would happen the next day, because you were still terrified, and didn’t want to go anywhere near where you had come from. Where ever that had been.
You had time to think about it, and you would need some basic amenities, maybe a nice shower or bath, some more food, and a proper night’s rest. Graves had a feeling the last item would have complications, but is willing to go with you into town while a motel room is arranged. You feel safer with Graves. You’ve been with him the longest so far, and you’d already put a lot of trust in him just getting into his truck while blind.
Plague AU Ch. 2
I sit on his bed, watching him as he fills out paperwork on his desk. I’ve finished eating already, even the second and third helping- at his insistence, ‘the least I could do as payment for your time’, as he said.
He shuffles papers together and sighs, turning in his chair to observe me. “Alright, I suppose it’s time we get started.”
“What’s the first step?” Is he going to wear his mask the entire time? I’d hoped that maybe, since we aren’t around the sick, he’d take it off. I would like to see who's hiding behind it. It would be a wonderful story to be able to tell the other keepers. I suppose I’m not so lucky, though.
“I’m going to take some measurements and make notes about your general physique- then I’ll take a few pulse readings.” He shuffles through his supplies, producing a cloth measuring tape akin to that of a tailor. He stands and makes his way over, peering down at me for a moment. “I’d prefer to get accurate measurements-” He tugs gently at the cloth draped over my shoulders. “Right- sorry.” I pull it off over my head and he gives me a stiff nod. “Quite alright-” he takes hold of my arm, stretching it straight out and measuring from my shoulder to my wrist. He grabs his notebook and starts writing measurements down. “I apologize, this process may be timely. There’s a newer study, one that focuses on…” He pauses, struggling for the word as he measures wrist to fingertip. “The human body, I suppose.” “Oh? What do you mean?” “Well- the study of humors is widely accepted but- there’s a theory that perhaps by observing the body we can figure out how illness comes to be and why.” “Then why do you want to observe me? Wouldn’t it make more sense to do this to someone who’s sick?” “Well, if I can figure out why someone is sick, maybe I can figure out why someone is not sick.” “What’s wrong with the current method?” “It doesn’t make sense. If humors are truly the answer- why do others who seem completely in balance fall ill? There’s got to be another reason. I don’t believe in a divine being sending punishment- I don’t believe the stars control us so closely- could you please flex this arm? Thank you.” He wraps the measuring tape around my bicep and takes note before moving on to measure across my chest, then around my rib cage- wrapping his arms around me to pull the measuring tape into his other hand. It’s strange being this close to a plague doctor, even in the workplace we never seem to touch in any way. Though he’s still veiled in leather and cloth, it’s the closest I’ve ever managed to get to him. I try to glance a hint of his face behind the mask, peering into the round glass pieces- it’s far too dark to see anything behind them.
“How long do you think the research will take?”
He doesn’t answer, turning and writing in the pages of his journal instead. “Would you stand please?” I give him a sidelong glance but follow his instructions, staying still as he measures my height- feeling a small spark of delight as he swears in French. Tall enough to astonish the good doctor.
“So I take it that your silence means it’s going to take a while?” He gestures for me to sit and slides off a glove, kneeling next to me and taking my wrist in his gloved hand. He uses the other to run his fingertips along the vein in my arm, palpating gently and then stilling on my wrist.
“Good things do not get done quickly. Science takes time if it is to be done correctly.” He counts softly, then gently releases his grip. This, too, gets written down. “I don’t mind, I’m just curious.” He chuckles, I’d bet money that he’s smirking under that mask. “You certainly are. Lots of questions.” “Can you blame me? You’re an enigma.” “Enigma? I quite like that.” “Well, if you’re going to be doing experiments on me, I’d like to know things about you.” “This is not experimentation, simply observation.” “If you’re going to be observing me,” I correct myself pointedly, “then I’d like to know a little bit about the man behind the mask.” “And so I answered your questions, every one of them. Have I not?” “I- well… I guess so, yeah…” “Then I’m meeting the terms you’ve set forth, though you haven’t been upfront about such things from the start.”
I clear my throat, glancing away and staring into the fire. “I suppose.” “Eyes forward, please.” I’ve hardly shifted my gaze when he reaches up, holding my jaw with his gloved hand and placing his index and middle finger just under my jaw. “Double checking your pulse readings.” He explains, only after having made the movement. An eternity passes before he releases me once again, returning to his notebook. “So- is this it? Just being looked over like cattle?”
“Yes, essentially. I’d like to ask questions about general diet and habits.” “Meat and potatoes, mostly.” “Water or wine?” “Wine each meal.” “Very good.” He sets his notebook down, sitting back on his heels. “I suppose that’s all for tonight. I’d like to make drawings tomorrow, but for now- it’s late.” “You want to make drawings of me?” I ask, half amused, half embarrassed. “Of course. Studying the body is rather useless if I’m not recording my findings as accurately as possible.” I pull my shirt on, grinning down at him and offering a hand up. He hesitates before taking it in his gloved hand. “Then I guess I’ll be seeing you tomorrow. I’ll be sure to be presentable.” He laughs softly. “No, come as you are. Don’t skew the results.”
“Well, then I suppose I’ll make my way home.” “Would you like me to accompany you back?” I stare at him for a moment, slightly amused at the offer. “Whatever for?” He goes quiet. “I suppose you’re right. Have a restful night, we have a lot of work to do tomorrow.” “I’ll see you in the morning.” I start making my way back home, realizing slightly too late that perhaps I would’ve preferred the company. I’m not scared of anything, per say, it’s more of the fact that the chill seems to cut deeper in the silence. The wind howls through the marsh in the distance and it brings my mind to unpleasant thoughts, bringing uneasiness to my core. The silver of the moonlight is enough only to navigate, but the unlit houses seem to loom more imposingly as I make my way past them, the shadows shift and move when I’m not looking. Tomorrow night I think I will accept the offer, after all. “Yes, yes, I see you’ve got prominent muscles- please humor me in putting them away, for the sake of neutrality.” The doctor seems a little more frustrated than usual today- we’ve lost more people than… well, when do we ever wish to lose anyone? So when we got back to his dwelling at night, ate, and set to work, I did my best to humor his every request. Except when he says ‘pose’ he intends me to sit idly for hours. I move too much for his liking, as he tries to sketch as quickly as he can, he begs me time and time again to revert to the way I was sitting moments ago- if I get distracted by my stories and start talking with my hands he chastises me. After a while he places the sketchbook down with a hefty sigh. “Perhaps this isn’t the day for this kind of study.” “Oh- I’m sorry, I’m trying. It’s hard to stay still for so long.” “It’s not just you- I cannot get the lines right. I’ll have to try again another night. Everything must be just so.” “You’re after perfection, I can’t provide that, maybe you’d find a better subject more compelling-” “Nonsense, perfection is an illusion but you’re as close to it as one could find anyway. I’m simply suffering from fatigue.” “You’re saying you think I’m perfect?” Sometimes the mask is far more expressive than it should be, for instance, I can tell he’s giving me a glare that would wither me if I could see it. “A perfect riddle.” “What happens if you never find the answer you’re looking for?” “I’m not sure. I guess things keep going the way they are… dismal thought, let’s not dwell on it.” “You really think the answer to this illness is something as simple as the body itself?” “I think… I have a lot to learn. I’m not entirely sure what I’m looking for but I’m convinced this illness must be something physical. It manifests physically, it feels as if- when I see someone suffering from it- it’s as if the body itself is turning against its owner.”
“So if you figure out how they work maybe you can make them behave?” “Eh- I suppose, in a way. Maybe there will be a medicine that can tame the disease and it’s something you’re doing, eating, drinking… there’s so many variables.” “Maybe it’s good humors.” “Yes, I know.” He sounds more frustrated saying this. “They all tell you that, they all believe it. I’m tired of hearing it.” “But what if it’s the truth? Would you reject it because it’s not what you want?” “I’m very well versed in rejecting things that sound as if they’re children's tales.” I sigh, gesturing to his outfit. “What children would want this?”There’s a stillness that falls over the room, he looks down at the floor and we sit in silence for a moment. The fire crackles in its hearth, gently licking at the cast iron within, throwing its warm light around the room- throwing shadows that dance upon the walls.
“Perhaps it’s time to retire.” He finally states, dryly, quietly. “You- you didn’t even do the physical yet-” “You don’t believe in it.” “Well- just because I have my doubts, that doesn’t mean we give up. What if you prove me wrong?” “What if it hinges on you believing it can be done? Being unwilling to give up? When we don’t see results, do you abandon me?” “Abandon? No- no, of course not. I want a cure for this as badly as you do.” “Enough to fight for it?” “Certainly.” He spends a moment gazing down at his gloved hands, then heaves a heavy breath. “This is going to be a challenging journey. Let’s get your physical done and- then we should be done for the night. Try again with a fresh day, with fewer losses weighing on my mind.” “You know- you shouldn’t let that discourage you. You can’t do anything about them- not right now. But we can try harder, for the future. Don’t tell me I have to be fully committed if you’re going to fall apart because of the losses. Kindling, not water.” He clears his throat before standing and gathering the measuring tape. “That’s reasonable.” He grabs my arm and stretches it out to my side, taking the same measurements as yesterday. The way he does it today, though, seems slightly… slower. More careful, perhaps. I don’t say anything as he goes about his business, instructing with few words, moving me rather than telling me what to do. By the end of it I’m glad to be done, feeling a little like I’ve been inspected for auction. “Any changes?” I finally ask as he hands me my shirt back. He shakes his head. “Changes to diet? What did you eat?” “No changes, beef and potatoes, red wine.” “Do you particularly like that diet?” “Uh- it’s fine? It’s what I’ve always eaten.” “Hm. Alright. That’s all for tonight.” “Oh- okay. Well- I guess I’ll head out.” “Goodnight.” I hesitate, waiting for him to offer to walk me home like he did before. It seems a singular rejection is all he needed, he doesn’t offer again. It’s childish to let my hesitancy keep me here, it’s not as if it’s dangerous in reality. Yet I find myself lingering in the doorway, trying to think of an excuse to stay longer.
“You know- they say you left due to gambling debts.”
There’s a moment where I stand and curse myself for bringing it up, why can’t I just shut my mouth and go home?
“Do they?” It’s not a question as much as it’s a droll response to me, no tone indicating any sort of real reaction.
“Well- a lot of things get said, actually.”
“I’m aware.” He crosses his arms, staring me down. “Is there any particular reason you’re bringing this up? Are you curious which rumors are true?”
‘Which’ implies that some are, in fact, true. I hadn’t given much weight to them until just this moment- suddenly they all pique my interest.
“Yes. If- I mean, if we’re working together.”
There’s a moment more of silence. “I have no gambling debts, nor do I come from a rich family. I’ve worked for everything I’ve ever owned and that hard work matters far too much for me to gamble it away.”
“And all the stuff about a mistress? Being married? Killing someone?” The questions escape before my judgement can tell me to stop. “Or having never married? Preferring the company of men?” There is a stifling silence before he chuckles. “I shouldn’t be surprised that people give space to these rumors- but it still catches me by surprise all the same.”
“So… are they true?”
“What do you think? I’m curious.”
“Well- I don’t know anything about you, really so… It’s hard to say. The most realistic may be that you had a mistress.”
“You think so? You flatter me. I’m not sure I possess such graces as to land me not only one, but two partners in life. I don’t possess the lack of scruples, however, to do such a thing.”
“So obviously I wouldn’t believe you’ve killed anyone, not on purpose anyway.”
He shakes his head. “I’m- I was good at what I did in my schooling. To tell you the truth, I didn’t have the time to set up my own practice before all of this happened. I don’t have much of a reputation, positive or otherwise.”
“So… that just leaves one final rumor…” I flush at the thought, turning my eyes away to focus on his desk rather than him.
“I suppose it does. Would that be a problem for you?”
“If- if you-” I clear my throat, shuffling slightly. “I guess it’s not my business.”
“And the rest of them were? Either way, I’m not sure I possess the social graces for such a thing as that, either. I mostly keep to myself and my sciences.”
“So most accurately- you’ve never married.”
“And don’t plan to. Now, sir, let me ask you- why did you volunteer for such a dangerous position?”
“Being a keeper?”
He nods at me, suddenly it feels as if his gaze is slightly too intense, like I can feel it from behind his mask.
“I guess I’ve just always wanted to do the right thing.”
“Even to die doing so, it seems.” He sounds slightly reproachful, like this is a negative thing.
“Clearly you don’t approve.”
“If I lose you, I lose any chance of finding a cure. Of course I don’t approve.”
“If I hadn’t done it, you’d never even know that I’m able to surround myself with the disease and survive.”
“A double-edged sword. I worry that with enough exposure, somehow you might find yourself falling ill anyway.”
“A risk I’d rather take, then.” I glance back outside at the fog, sighing. “Walk with me, we can discuss it further.”
“I see you’ve reconsidered the ‘walking by yourself’ stance you held last night.” He says, almost with a hint of teasing in his voice. I turn and step outside the door, avoiding looking over at him.
“I have no idea what you mean.”
Text under cut.
If you don’t have children — and don’t plan on having any — the normal rules of personal finance don’t necessarily apply to you.
That’s because people who meet that description, known as childfree people, don’t need to build generational wealth, says Jay Zigmont, a certified financial planner and author of “Portraits of Childfree Wealth.” That renders much of the standard advice you hear from financial experts like Dave Ramsey moot.
“If my nephews get $1,000 or $10,000 [when I die] that’s fine. If they get $1 million, I made a mistake,” Zigmont said during a recent appearance at FinCon. “Because either they could have used it earlier in life, or I could have used it.”
Under the traditional models of financial planning, you’re told to keep “running it up” in order to pass along your wealth to your children, Zigmont says. Without that variable in play, childfree people are free to spend or donate every dime they make before they die in order to maximize their happiness.
“That breaks all the financial planning,” Zigmont said.
In a nod to Ramsey’s seven “baby steps” for money management, Zigmont suggest eight “no baby” steps (get it?) as a financial roadmap for childfree people.
1 - 3: Build a financial foundation
The first three steps, Zigmont says, are what he’d prescribe whether you had a child or not. He recommends starting with the following:
Create a starter emergency fund
Get out of debt
Build a 3- to 6-month emergency fund
For a starter emergency fund, Zigmont recommends socking away enough cash to cover about a month’s worth of expenses, which gives you a cushion as you move on to step two: getting yourself out of debt.
“When you’re deep in debt, you’ve deferred maintenance on you, your car, your house, everything,” Zigmont says. When those expenses continue to crop up, you’d rather pay out of your emergency fund than fall deeper into debt.
Once you have a savings cushion, treat your debt as priority No. 1, especially if it’s high-interest debt, such as the balance on a credit card.
“Your debt is an emergency, especially with credit card rates now over 20%,” Zigmont says.
Although Zigmont sees the mathematical wisdom in paying off debt via the so-called avalanche method — focusing on the highest-rate debt first — he generally favors the psychological wins afforded by paying off debts in order of the smallest balances, a strategy known as the snowball method.
“Getting into debt can be quick. Getting out is a slog. So having those quick wins keeps you moving.”
4. Save and invest toward your goals
This is where Zigmont says his advice “takes a hard right turn” from traditional advice. Even though people with children are also saving and investing, childfree people may have very different landmarks. After all, there’s no child care to pay for, no college to save for, no inheritance to leave.
“How can I spend some money, enjoy my life, but also save for the future?” Zigmont says. “It comes down to, what do you want your goals to be?”
Under a traditional model, you might stash away, say, 20% of your income, divvying the savings between the down payment on a house and investments for your retirement, which you hope begins around age 67.
For childfree people, the script can look radically different. A house is “a choice for childfree people, not a requirement,” says Zigmont — especially if you want the flexibility to move around.
What’s more, while you may want to invest for the long-term, you can divert some of the money to improve your life in the near future.
“If your goal is to open a business, maybe you want to invest in that business, where the better answer financially might be to invest in the stock market,” Zigmont says. “Maybe it’s investing in going back to school or changing careers or taking a sabbatical. Those are all investments. They’re just not ‘classic’ investments.”
5. Get your insurance right
Being childfree makes having some types of insurance more important than others. If you have children, for example, many financial pros recommend some form of term life insurance to cover your family in the event of your death.
Unless you have major financial obligations your spouse couldn’t bear if you died, “it’s very rare that childfree people will need life insurance,” says Zigmont. “Disability insurance is much bigger.”
This is especially true for people Zigmont calls “soloists” — childfree people who also don’t have a spouse.
“You need to have good disability insurance that’s going to cover you until you retire,” Zigmont says. “Many people skip it or don’t realize that their employer’s coverage won’t be enough.” In fact, less than half of private industry workers have access to short-term and long-term disability coverage, which kicks in if injury or illness prevents you from working.
Another major consideration: long-term care insurance.
End-of-life care is expensive. The median monthly cost for a private room in a nursing home, for instance, is more than $9,000 a month, according to a 2021 survey from insurance provider Genworth Financial.
“Childfree people often get asked who will take care of us. The answer is my money, with the help of professionals,” says Zigmont. ”[Considering long-term care insurance] something I want people to be doing by about their mid-forties. And the reason for that is that’s when long-term care insurance is the most reasonable. It’s not cheap. But it’s more reasonable.”
6. Be proactive about estate planning
Financial advisors will tell you that just about everyone needs an estate plan, which directs the people in your life how you want financial and medical decisions handled in the case of your death or incapacitation.
It’s an even more pressing issue for childfree people who may not have an obvious next-of-kin, says Zigmont.
“Health care and government systems all look for next-of-kin,” he says. If you get in an accident when you’re out of town, for example, there may be no one obvious to contact, he adds. “That means the government or health-care system will be making decisions for you.”
Without an estate plan in place, you undergo procedures that you wouldn’t have chosen for yourself, or your assets could be distributed according to government rules rather than your wishes.
“It’s so important that we’re designating decision-makers for us financially and medically so that our needs and wishes are fulfilled,” Zigmont says.
7. Plan for Mom and Dad
You’ve likely heard of the “sandwich generation” of people who are caring for both their children and their aging parents. But for many families, it’s more of an open-faced sandwich.
“It’s often, ‘Hey, you don’t have kids, so you can take care of Mom, right?’” says Zigmont. “There’s a different level of expectation.”
That may or may not be a role you’re comfortable taking. Your first step, says Zigmont, is to establish your boundaries. You and your spouse, for instance, may be happy to chip in more than your siblings financially, but unwilling to let a parent live in your home.
You’ll also need to communicate what your monetary role in your parents’ care is going to be. “You might decide, ‘Hey, I can’t afford this.’ You need to have that conversation.”
If, for instance, you and your siblings can’t afford long-term care for an aging parent, they may have to opt for a nursing facility provided by Medicaid. That awkward conversation should ideally happen as early as possible. “You need to do that before they’re sick,” Zigmont says.
8. Die with zero
Zigmont’s ‘die with zero’ mantra is a nod to the book of the same name by Bill Perkins. But both men would acknowledge that aiming to actually die with $0 in your bank account is a risky proposition. You don’t want to underestimate your life expectancy and run out of money.
That’s why Zigmont recommends buying a long-term care policy and setting yourself up with an ample cash cushion.
“Then it’s a matter of optimizing your life and getting the most out of your money while you’re living,” he says.
That will look different for everyone, but generally, “we can do two different things,” says Zigmont. “We can either save less or draw it down more.”
One example of the former is taking a lower-paying job, which could come with less stress and more time to focus on your passions. “Sure, you’re not gonna save as much, but you’re gonna be happier, right?”
Zigmont also meets clients who have banked a prodigious amount of money, and in a departure from many financial planners, he encourages them to spend more of it well before retirement age.
“Their minds are blown because they’ve spent years learning how to save. There’s a lot of guilt there. There’s a lot of baggage that comes with it,” he says.
To be clear, Zigmont is not saying that childfree people are free to embark on a spree of reckless spending. Rather, they can put a sharper focus on how their money can maximize their happiness.
“I’d be very careful with a YOLO approach. It’s a balance between, you’ve got enough money to keep yourself safe. But you’re also enjoying your life at the same time at a much earlier age.”
Manifestation/Shifting advice from Lucifer.
Before I start, please read this:
I’m giving 5€ tarot readings and subliminals since I want to know if this Revolut payment link works!
You don’t have to own an account and neither download the app, you just have to click on the link (its not a virus and i’m not an hacker or scammer i promise😭).
I had some requests but the link hasn’t been working and I don’t have any payment apps so I want to know if it works for anybody, it’s really important for me to start earning something to at least be the minimum indipendent.
So if you want to support me and make a request just send me a message here or email with your name and any info you want to precise.
Here’s the link to the requests form.
-•••-
key words:
libra, capricorn, taurus, but i sense all of the signs so this might be for anyone really. colour blue. deity work (or any kind of relationship with a deity). sun. spirituality. meditation and visualisation. balance.
the reading:
The Magician at the very centre of the spread indicates that your manifestation/shifting skills are right there, and you can use them with ease if you put inspired action, anything can work if you put your mind into it, because this is a natural skill all humans own and you’re not different huh.
Most of the cards highlight that success is near only if you persist in the work you decide to do, maybe it is a method, a mentality, or any other kind of thing that you want to use. And it can be a fast change too, actually it will be instant, only if you decide too though. Maintain the same passion and strength into work, the same as how much you want that desire, use that fire in a healthy way, don’t let it consume and burn you.
You really have to put faith and belief in this, trust that you’re in power and control and that you can do it because you’re the god and creator of any reality you exist in, so literally the entire multiverse. Find some balance though, don’t let that thing consume you (again, this is important) and try to keep it healthy, don’t obsess over it because at the end of the day you decide everything, don’t think of the “how”, just trust in your abilities okay? Find a practical plan and be independent, only you can decide that you can achieve this. You can also ask for guidance from your deity or whatever you believe in (if you do), they’re right here for you so don’t be afraid to ask their help, as long as you respect them they will be patient and happy to help and guide you.
Don’t be lazy for hells sake, you have to start putting whatever action you want, you can even use “lazy” manifestation methods, such as visualising with your sense only one time a day or say one affirmations as long as you believe in it (robotic affirmations can work too of course, but I wanted to mention methods that require little time).
You can shift realities, okay? You’re a mediator between worlds and you were born for this, this is your purpose so fuck, just start acting so. Visualisation and meditation are recommended methods, but you can do as you prefer, like if you have aphantasia or if it doesn’t work for you (everything works though, if you put your mind to it). You just have to fix your routine and persist, this way your wishes will just be naturally attracted to you. It’s the end of a chapter, start new from now on.
Previously, I said that (Aug 2024)...
Unless someone can fix the relationship between the sexes (for the straights), the default outcome is that the right-wing impose a massive resource transfer from the single and childless to married women with children.
...and while this is not 100% guaranteed, it's entirely within the contemporary right-wing frame to propose that net taxpayers having children is "underpriced" by existing government welfare schemes and industrial society, with people paying to have and raise children but not being compensated for the effort except with delightful smiles and maybe not being sent to a care home in decrepit old age. (Or worse - people are claiming that the UK are floating a bill to privatize "assisted dying".)
Back then, I wrote...
...pension fund numbers "aren't morals." They don't have to build an agreement on exactly whose religion has the correct view of gender morality. They don't have to make any claims about LGBTs. All they have to say is, childless person = unfunded pension liability.
No kids? No pension. Well, that sorts out the balance of benefits real quick.
Most of you who are practiced in the art can probably see the problem with making payments to parents directly from their children's taxes, immediately - it incentivizes pushing the kids for maximum earnings.
That sounds like overkill that's going to result in a lot of 60-hour work weeks and family fights. Combine it with Gattaca-style IVF or similar technologies, and there might be a lot of pressure to avoid a "bad" kid, potentially leading to a flattening of humanity.
(An approach in which income for tax purposes is divided by the number of children would take a more agnostic stance on a child's future earnings, merely making the assumption that they're likely to fall within their parents' tax bracket. However, this would still shift the burden of taxation from those who are married with children, to the single and childless.)
To avoid this outcome, a cultural alternative that helps straight people learn to love one another again, among other interventions, should be developed.
Ideally, it should gain traction within 4-5 years, so that it can show gains before 2032 and thereby undermine the perceived legitimacy of a purely financial method.
EMERGENCY COMMISSIONS!
At the end of my last semester, I was informed that due to issues involving my college credits I wouldn't be able to get financial aid for the fall. I tried submitting an appeal to my college, but due to my appeal being denied I have no choice but to pay for my next semester out of pocket.
My original plan was to stay with my mother until I paid off my tuition using my paycheck from my food service job, but unfortunately I have not been getting scheduled very many hours, if I even work at all. I literally work ONE four-hour shift this week, and I'm not even ON the next schedule. I haven't worked in almost two weeks, which I do not know how it's legal.
My commissions have always been open, but as of now my commissions are now EMERGENCY COMMISSIONS. I'm trying to look for a second job, but sadly I haven't had much luck so far and I don't know what else to do.
My tuition sits at around $2k, but my college thankfully has a payment plan in place that will allow me to pay off my balance throughout the semester. The down payment for that is $500, which is my goal right now.
Please, please consider commissioning me if you have the means to do so. I've already had to drop half of my classes just to make my tuition somewhat affordable for me. I don't want to have to drop out of college for the semester if I can help it and have to stay with my mother for longer than I have to; the last time I was living with my mother long-term, my mental health declined to the point where I almost took my own life. I don't want to get to that point again.
Here is the Carrd for my commissions, which includes examples of my recent work, pricing information, and links to the payment methods I use. You can message me here on Tumblr regarding commissions, or DM me on Discord (@wootzietoozee)
If you don't have the means to commission me, please reblog this post, at the very least.
Thank you. <3
🫠 So there is a glitch on my Uber Eats account where it says there is an unpaid balance (tip) but it was WAS actually paid, and because it already paid - the payment for it will not go through to ANY payment method as a security measure - and because my account is in an unpaid status - it is locked and will not let me order anything until the balance is paid which was already paid.
Customer support doesn't know what to do. I've been deferred to "specialty staff" twice.
hi! so i recently made a creepypasta boyfriend quiz.
it’s different from literally every other existing creepypasta bf quiz because:
a) it has a very intricately balanced point system
b) it has 1,000 word long (and i’d say well written) results
c) it’s carefully thought out, the questions are unique and NOT the stereotypical ‘whAtS uR fAvOuRite WeaPoN?’
d) most of them are made by children, which i am not
but yes, there’s a catch. i’m charging €2 (which is basically the same as $2 but i’m not american) for it. and i know, why would you pay for a quiz when there’s thousands of free ones out there, right?
because you will not find the same quality in any of the free ones. and i’m saying this confidently, without any ego or narcissism.
if i sold you on my quiz, great! take a look at this post for some more details on it.
if i didn’t, then at least do me a favour and explain to me why, so that i can maybe work something out.
(i ran out of word count on the third option but it’s supposed to say reconsider)
thank you for voting, i appreciate your time! ♡
