Thoughts on 8x01-8x08 this is honestly the most I’ve just straight up enjoyed the show. I like the darker mythology of this season with the sirens, hell and Cade. It felt different but fresh and I thought it was easy to follow for the most part. The macguffins feel like a S1 homage. Scenes got to breathe again, Steroline had so many great domestic scenes and this is their peak relationship wise. If I cared about Bonenzo I’d say that’s good too. My only real gripe is Bonnie's storyline which feels like we took a step back after the progress of the last two seasons because why is she not fighting more to get her powers back? Plus Bamon is just non-existent this half but overall one of my favorite half seasons, it ranks just below S2 and S6 for me and you can read about why below!

8x01

This feels soooo much like a season one episode. I don't think the others do as much as this one though.

Why AGAIN did Bonnie lose her magic! Plot contrivance level 1000.

Everything Steroline in this episode is what was missing in S7! The teasing, the sexy time and hair stroking (I especially love where Stefan grips her hair after they kiss because he’s not ready to let go yet and kisses her forehead) but especially the phone call going over the plan! Feels like them in S4/5 which is FANTASTIC because it shows the friendship never died when the relationship started.

Mommy!Caroline is so great! I love the fairytale she told the girls and I love the scene where she finds them and is like "hi babies" THE CUTEST!

Okay so Virginia said whatever was in the vault wanted the twins and Damon says the voice in his head said it didn’t want Stefan yet. So yeah it seems the twins and Stefan were always a target at least.

I know KW co-wrote this ep but I just do not see how Elena is interpreted as Stefan’s hope. I know he goes out of turn but nothing he wrote was hopeful lol, plus he used Caroline’s words from earlier. Then there’s the fact that he looks miserable until Caroline asks if he wants her to move in with him.

Enzo leaving Bonnie clues about the siren was a great plot for them.

They should have just let Nat Kelley use her Aussie accent because she talks SO MUCH and I hear the struggle of her trying to hide her real accent. It would have made no difference!

How unbelievably boring is Damon's mind that he just keeps reliving this roadside scene over and over again. I don't even understand what the big deal is about this scene, wow so Damon met Elena first, who gives a shit?

Bonnie being a hater! I guess the sensation of watching Stefan and Caroline from the outside affects even those not in love with one of them.

Georgie was so good! Even if she has terrible taste in men she should have lived or at least lasted longer!

While I understand your frustrations Bonnie you got three years with Enzo and Caroline was stuck with fucking Alaric! The Baroline scene was sweet though, the Bonenzo scene is good too but the dialogue is so corny.

Really really REALLY unnecessary that we needed to bring Sarah Salvatore back just to murder her. Again killing off the WOC...

Okay see even more proof Caroline is Stefan’s hope because she says “you can’t give up hope” and he says I won’t and then FRIGGIN' PROPOSES TO HER! I mean do most people realize that’s not when he meant to propose? Like he bought the ring probably when she said agreed to live with him and he was going to propose with the room when he was finished. But in usual Stefan fashion every-time he plans to wait for the perfect moment with Caroline he fails because he loves her so much he doesn’t care about the pageantry he just wants her.

WHAT A MOMENT! I love both proposals for them but this one I just love how it’s so them! Stefan shows her the room because his love language with Caroline is acts of service. He’s showing her the meaning behind his words saying she’s his family, he’s tearing down a room in his home the only constant he’s had in his immortal life because he knows she will always be a part of it. And he thinks he’s so clever with the drawer ‘hey check it out, it’s antique’ but Caroline is Caroline and she wants the speech and he teases her about that like are you sure and he does the cheesy speech knowing she’s gonna laugh. But THEN she kisses him and he’s so consumed by how much he loves her and wants her and just gets SO INCREDIBLY SEXY grabbing her face and whispering against her lips between kisses that he wants her to marry him! I STILL GUSH OVER IT!

THE JUNE WEDDING! It’s still so hilarious that throwaway line in the pilot ended up coming true. Caroline is the greatest manifestater of all time!

GET HIS ASS CAROLINE! She really enjoyed stabbing him with that pole!

Man the one thing I’m jealous that Valerie got and not Caroline was Damon-less Stefan. She deserved Damon-less Stefan more than anyone!

The way Stefan smacks Damon like “why are you such a little bitch” because Enzo is fighting the mind control and Damon isn’t cracks me up!

She’s got a point Stefan! But like LOL Bonnie Stefan doesn’t even like Enzo as if he’d pick him over Damon regardless. The almost forehead touch and the way Caroline grabs Stefan and pulls him towards her, Paul and Candice did such a great job of showing the sweetness between Steroline this season. They're partners and it doesn't feel right when they aren't on the same side.

UGH FUCK THIS! I cannot believe this is how Tyler dies after everything!

The troll job with the “I love yous” all on the phone! Although they did that to Forwood too I noticed in my rewatch.

The dialogue has been very on point the last few episodes, I especially like how Stefan’s been written. This is probably my favorite Stefan because he’s being active in helping to save Damon but he’s not letting it overtake his life. I honestly don’t get why people think Paul was “mailing it in” this season, I think it’s because they all believe in the good brother mythos he performed in the earlier seasons. That guy doesn’t exist anymore!

Stefan's having way too much fun torturing Sybil with that tuning fork lol.

Two sirens and one being the friggin’ nanny was a great twist! And the flashback scenes parallel Defan’s scenes so well.

I like that they switched up from the torture dungeons to the secret lab rooms for interrogations. Feels fresh.

Georgie looking at Sybil through the glass has Elena and Katherine looking at each other vibes.

So funny how we’re all pretending anyone’s gonna care that Damon killed Tyler just to you know piss me off even more about it!

Stefan so scared for Caroline’s twins!

Matt finding Tyler’s body is heartbreaking. Damn that scene really hurt.

Seline is way better at the creepy whistle, Seline is the better siren in general I wish they’d killed Sybil earlier and just had Seline.

Seline’s evil look before closing the door lol. I love when actors ham it up in the best way possible.

Really like how Caroline subtlety told Stefan to STFU about Damon and mourn Tyler because she needed comfort and he instantly got that. Married.

Damon’s like “what’s so surprising about me being awful” and I AGREE!

That Baroline phone call was so sweet. I love how Caroline talked about what made her turn her humanity on about her Mom.

Bonnie pulling a Damon! Sometimes you have to go to extremes for the people you love!

WE ALMOST HAD IT! Stefan put Damon down at Caroline’s urging and it was such a good parallel to him saying "I'm lost" in 6x05 to "I'm sorry" now.

I’m sorry but I just don’t get anything from Bonnie and Enzo even with the powerful narrative the show tries to give them I *snore* I tried.

I like when the show parallels back to Stefan doing something weird, because like Stefan is very weird! He brought everyone back to the carnival for a memorial like he did in 4x02 with everyone saying a few words and then group activity time!

Tyler deserved so much better than this memorial and he really deserved for his death to mean more than it did. Matt was the only one who really seemed to care that he was dead, though I do give Caroline credit for Damon killing Tyler being the thing that made her give up on Damon. Then she pushed Stefan to do the same and he didn't really hesitate. I do LOL at Stefan not being able to say a nice thing about Tyler even in death, disliked his ass until the very end.

THIS SCENE IS SO PRETTY! It’s their prettiest scene and I am in love with the completely in awe lovestruck look Stefan is giving to Caroline while she talks to him. I know I say it all the time but I love Steroline because of scenes like this, their conversations feel deeper because they have so many moments they callback on to show their progression. And I love how Stefan just listens to her and really takes her words in, she inspires him so much.

God I’m stressed and I know what happens!

Pain. But I like how Stefan accepted it with no fight, just another day of Damon ruining his life.

Ric was ready to turn Enzo into a vegetable but Stefan couldn’t be absolved for killing him without humanity.

I cannot BELIEVE people want to give Damon credit for saving the twins when it’s made abundantly clear that he just wants to get out of hell. He just knows that in order to get Stefan to go along with the plan he needed to use the twins as leverage. Ruined his life AGAIN!

I didn’t realize how triggered this episode was gonna make me!

Ric’s talking a lot of shit for someone who does nothing to solve the problem!

I’m sorry but I think Stefan has more than enough blood on his hands for Cade Sybil. Paul Wesley just wanted to do a fight sequence it’s fine.

Stefan earned his hero hair this episode. The look between him and Caroline as she’s hugging Josie :( gets me every-time.

Candice was stellar in this episode, definitely one of her strongest episodes ever.

All he wanted was 24 hours with her. This is THE Stefan episode for me, this was his final heroic act and unfortunately he never really gets to come back from it. Paul really did such a fabulous job with this episode directing, acting, even song selection (he picked the song used in this scene) he went out with a bang.

Actually I really like the bickering sisters with the sirens and how they keep backstabbing each other, sounds familiar (that's the point)!

My heart. Stefan channelling his inner Buddy the Elf and putting up all the Christmas ornaments and the morning Steroline scene is such perfection. They deserved to have that peaceful domestic life together longer than they got. Stefan's diary entry pulls on the heartstrings too, I'm glad Caroline at least got to read that and I feel like it might give her some comfort knowing Stefan promised her his heart forever even before that moment in the finale.

You can tell right away that Caroline is ready FOR SCHEMING on her phone call with Bonnie and I am HERE FOR IT! She's so great this whole episode.

It made perfect sense that Cade would be so interested in Stefan without the retcon in the finale that it was all Katherine having him wrapped around her finger (which was RME).

CRYING! HE GOT ANOTHER ONE! Cade being like "I didn't care about your remorse but this crazy bitch did" because they always do! Crazy bitches and the Stefussy like moths to a flame. Bonnie and Enzo are nice this episode too I feel like they’re having real conversations instead of quasi-DE dialogues.

Peter's not really a bad character I just don't care. Matt has surprisingly not been annoying though I liked when Damon was like "you killed me" and he looked and him like AND I'LL DO IT AGAIN!

This Christmas dinner is so stressful! Not like 'The Bear' stressful but it's up there!

I’m sorry but Stefan’s logic of “yeah I ate kids but never on Christmas” truly kills me! As if that makes it okay!?!

Cade explaining really well why I never got into SE especially in S1 because of how Stefan inserted himself into her life because he saw her as his redemption, the "good" Katherine.

"When I was the Ripper I was one of a kind, no one can do what I can do" (!!!) Ripper Stefan truly was one of the best villains, if this season had 22 episodes we could have had a longer arc of him.

CAROLINE FTW! She’s so damn smart no wonder Stefan loves her.

Mistletoe toe kiss and finally the I love yous face to face! Admit-tingly totally worth the wait this is one if their best scenes. The way he drags her down the stairs and kisses her so passionately under the mistletoe. I love that when he nods for her to look up he continues staring at her, Stefan wanted to give her some peace and romance before everything changes forever. Again Stefan wanted to be with Caroline before he essentially walked into damnation.

I love the evolution of the “off switch” with Stefan. It was so much more dramatic in S3 when he was forced by Klaus and now he just closes his eyes and lets the evil eyebrows do all the work. It’s because he’s accepted the Ripper part of him more. My favorite aspect in this scene is how he waits until he left MF to shut it off, because that’s his home aka Caroline.

“Clarity over cleverness” that’s a pretty accurate description of Damon Stefan IDK even if he never said it he’s sure followed it!

See this is the first time Stefan is actually TRYING to not fly off the handle as a ripper, he even said in 6x17 he doesn’t have an elaborate system to keep himself in check but now he’s trying one. Obviously doesn’t work but I thought it was interesting it was dripping blood from the vein since that’s what pushed Caroline over the edge in 6x17. This episode is FULL of callbacks to their humanity-off arc I love it! They’re very subtle but there’s a bunch.

Sybil hasn’t started annoying me yet but more importantly I am SO HAPPY Caroline is getting scenes solo with the “big bad” of the season because I don’t even remember the last time that happened! Maybe S4 and Silas?

Ripper Stefan picking out Dr. Elena to teach Damon a lesson is DIABOLICAL! The way he stabs Damon with a vervain needle (of course!) and yells “Omg is there a doctor here” DYING.

Threatening to burn those kids alive was pretty stressful! Thank god Caroline had her assistants to do the dirty work for her.

Ripper Stefan making Damon throw the necklace out the window is like when NH!Caro made Stefan burn the letter. Biggest missed opportunity was not having Ripper Stefan ask Caroline to turn it off and join him instead of Damon because that was sitting on a plater after this episode with excellent callbacks to the no humanity arc.

Love the way Ripper Stefan going off the rails was filmed and Malarkey’s song is perfect. He looks so feral in that last shot! Great job again Ian and the writing in this episode was so good.

Looking back its crazy to think that's the ship that held my heart bc the writers really did treat it like dirt. But it was everything. Bonnie started thinking back to that night. Them crying when Allie went into Noah's arms, Bonnie confiding in Rebekah about her abandonment issues, Rebekah opening up about how scared she is trust because of all the years she's been betrayed, their hug, and how Rebekah's hair smelt like strawberries. Rebekah was so sweet and empathetic with her that night and it felt good having that support and being appreciated for once. Bonnie felt that Rebekah could be misunderstood sometimes, and that underneath the pettiness, she was just an girl who wants a normal high school life, to be human, and have someone who loved her unconditionally. She could also understand the pain of being betrayed by the people that claimed to care for her. Even though Rebekah may have her issues, Bonnie thought that she still deserved happiness and the life she craved. After the movie, they just talked for hours and then Bonnie saw a strand of hair in front of Rebekah's eye and moved it. This led to them glancing at other for a long time.

Then, something possessed Bonnie to kiss her softly. Rebekah stared in amazement, which got Bonnie to look away with a blush. Rebekah proceeded to cradle her face and began to make out with the Bennett Witch.

if you could of written an endgame for forwood, stelena and bamon individually what would it be? feel free to be long haha

Sorry this is so late, but I was too tired last night to write down anything coherent haha (not that I’m much better right now lol so excuse me if any of this doesn’t make sense).

For Stelena my ideal endgame for them pretty much would have been the AU world we were shown in 5x18. They end up human together (whether by Bonnie stabbing Stefan with the cure or some other way) and have kids and a happy life together. It’s what they’ve both always wanted. If we’re going with what happened in canon, then I would have had Elena wake up from the sleeping curse having had time to think about what she really wanted but also who she really wanted to be. She would have realized that she was at her best when she was Stefan. It was canon that she didn’t like the person she had become and it would be nice to see her try to go back to who she was. She also would have realized that Damon would have been miserable as a human. What they should have done during the sleeping curse was have Damon realize that he didn’t need Elena in order to be a good person. He had Stefan and Bonnie, who he admitted were two of the most important people in his life, and he also admitted that Bonnie pushed him to be the best version of himself. DE should have come to a mutual end and Elena would have reconnected with Stefan (who never married Caroline) as Damon grew closer to Bonnie. I could see Stefan entering some sort of career in the medical field just like Elena.

For Forwood to be endgame basically nothing after 5x04 would have happened lol. Tyler would have stayed a hybrid, Caroline never would have slept with Klaus, and Tyler would still be an immortal hybrid. I would have liked to have seen Caroline actually help Tyler try to get revenge for his mother and support him (also I kind of selfishly want a Forwood vs Klayley storyline? IDK they’re just two very powerful A personality type couples and it would be interesting to see them go toe to toe. Just me?). They would have come to a compromise, Tyler would stay and finish college with Caroline and then they would go traveling the world and seek out various werewolf packs that Tyler could help. After his pack got slaughtered it became Tyler’s mission to help as many werewolves as possible and it would be so cute to see Caroline as kind of a pack mom to them. And she would finally get her chance to explore and see the world with Tyler, the man who had spent a good portion of the last few years being on the run all over the place. Eventually they would have twins like in the books (Don’t ask me how. But if Caroline can become impregnated with Alaric and Jo’s kids then anything can happen okay). They would come back to Mystic Falls and settle in the Lockwood mansion and would constantly have random werewolves coming to them for help and protection. Caroline would also have her dream reporter/journalist job and they would be the power couple of Mystic Falls for eternity. Because they’re immortal and they found a way.

For Bamon, I would have had Bonnie become immortal once she became connected to that other world (because Bonnie has suffered enough and deserves to have an eternity of happiness now) and Damon would have remained a vampire. Because I don’t give a shit what they said in the later seasons, I’m still convinced that Damon “I like being the eternal stud” Salvatore would be absolutely miserable as a human. For one thing, he likes to drink way too much and would probably die from alcohol poisoning on his first day as a human. Also, he has no interest in actual normal human activities like having a job?? And do you really mean to tell me Damon would be happy owning some bar? With no ability to compel anyone anymore? I doubt it. So yeah they would both be immortal and they would kind of just take over as the unofficial protectors of Mystical Falls, because lbr when shit goes down 90% of the time it’s those two making the hard decisions and getting shit done. They would still bicker constantly. That’s never going to stop because that’s just Bamon. And I don’t know if they would ever really announce that they were together but people would kind of just know. And they would know that if you messed with Bonnie Bennett then Damon Salvatore would be coming for your ass and vice versa. Of course they would make pancakes every morning and I’d like to think that Damon would eventually take Bonnie traveling because she deserves to see and experience all the wonders of the world. But yeah, my main endgame for Bamon would just be them being together and being the protectors of Mystic Falls. I don’t really have a specific way for how they would come together, but all the groundwork has already been laid so I could imagine that one day they would be in the middle of a heated argument and they would kiss and that would be it. From then on they would be inseparable.

Wow Bamon stole the last episode. So funny how one tiny #Bamon scene has more chemistry and truth and passion than all of the Bonenzo and Delena including bed scenes together. Ian and Kat really bring it. They have this something that makes all their scenes epic I don't know how to explain it. No wonder they kept them apart this season it was to not overshadow BE scenes. Only with this tiny scene they had with the letter, you can see new people starting to ship them on twitter it's wild !

who starts putting up decorations in october? bonnie to which damon replies that “we are literal creatures of the night there is no way halloween comes second to the holiday where an obese man is allowed to break into your house and leave gifts” Bonnie faux sweetly replies, “You didn’t seem to mind when you practically swallowed my tongue under the misteltoe last year” to which damon smirks in that annoying way he does whenever he has a plan he knows his fiancee won’t appreciate. Needless to say Bonnie is only half surprised when she comes home the next day after a particularly long day to a house brimming full of mistletoe and a half naked Damon Salvatore strewn across the couch a la Rose from Titanic with a piece of mistletoe dangling around his neck.

who buys the advent calendars? Bonnie without a doubt, they remind her of Gram’s and how Christmas would be the one time her family decided to put their petty squabbles aside and come together. One of the few times she didn’t go to sleep to an empty house and an emotionally vacant father. 

who places mistletoes all around the house? ha ha ha…Damon and frankly Bonnie is tired of the bullshit. 

who wraps the presents for other people? Damon offers to wrap the gifts and Bonnie has to admit she is more than a bit suspicious to which Damon looks hurt and replies that, “I can be a considerate guy every now and again” Bonnie feels almost bad…until she comes home to find him replacing the thoughtful gifts she bought for everyone with gag gifts, a stuffed squirrel for stefan, a bottle of suntan lotion for caroline, a “law enforcement” for dummies book for matt, a self help book entitled, “How to stop making everything about yourself” for Elena, and predictably, a chew toy for Tyler.  

who puts the final star/angel on the top of the christmas tree? Bonnie, and Damon offers to let her climb on top of his shoulders to do it since she’s so “adorably pint sized” he receives an elbow to the gut for that one.

who’s the one that hates eggnog? Damon 100% which results in Bonnie filling the blood bag freezer full of the stuff in retaliation of the Mistletoe caper.

who’s the one that bakes christmas cookies for guests? Damon and if Bonnie ever told anyone how much of the cooking/baking he actually does in their home he would deny it wholeheartedly but he has to admit baking is the sort of methodical process that appeals to him…it also doesn’t hurt that Bonnie is strangely turned on by seeing him in his kitchen apron and he’s almost positive he can talk her into letting him eat leftover cookie dough off of her.

who sends out the christmas cards? Bonnie and she still doesn’t want to talk about why…lets just say it included Christmas cards including pictures of she and Damon ahem getting into the holiday spirit Mr. and Mrs. Claus Roleplay that Damon “accidentally” sent to everyone on her mailing list. 

who knows all the words to twelve days of christmas? Bonnie

who starts snowball fights? Bonnie, they started their annual snowball fights a few years prior back when they were still tip toeing around what they meant to each other. Damon’s outside perfecting his Snowman when he feels  a cold splat to the back of his head and ice dripping down the coat of his jacket. He turns slowly to see an oh so innocent Bonnie Bennett suspiciously avoiding his eyes and whistling. He takes a beat before turning and using his vamp speed to tackle her to the ground and tickle her into submission. She’s lying under him her cheeks hurting from laughing so hard, shivering from the ice seeping into her coat. She’s still recovering from the laughter when she finally looks up at his face and he’s giving her that look, the look they’d been avoiding talking about for weeks the one where his ordinarily sharp blue eyes soften and he starts looking at her like she could be everything to him if he isn’t careful…and she wishes she could say it means nothing to her that her heart isn’t beating a mile a minute but she’s trying to be more honest with herself these days. Damon takes a deep breath preparing to shatter this moment like Bonnie has done so many times before. He knows she’s a good person that she worries about what her friends, about what elena will say if they ever took the leap but he’s looking at her at her ruddy cheeks, at the ice in her eyelashes, at the way her hair is rapidly curling from the rapidly melting snow soaking in and he’s willing to risk anything for a chance to tell her how she makes him feel. In the end it’s Bonnie in an uncharacteristic move that reaches up and tangles her fingers through his hair and pulls him down to press his lips against hers.

who’s the one that wakes the other on christmas morning by playing christmas songs really loudly? - Bonnie and Damon feigns irritation at being woken up but he has to admit he likes the quiet domestication of them sitting side by side under the tree opening gifts. It gives him that comfort from their forced isolation in 1994 except better because this time when he feels the strange urge to reach for her small hand and interlace it with his own he doesn’t have to stop himself from giving in.

You need to write some SE fix it fic thingy. I trust you to heal my wounds with your words.

Right now I’m really focused on the Klaus/Stefan mpreg ‘verse. 

But I’ll try and think of something. Writing a fix it fic will be hard because it was about the only part of the finale that was good. Damon/Elena were literally a side note and um Stefan was cuddling up with Elena when he told Caroline his goodbye.

The most I can think of is writing Damon and Elena dating for a few weeks and the realizing the only thing they have in common is Stefan so they break up. They only see each other when they’re lurking around in Stefan’s gave.

Or maybe. 

I could write Elena being like. Nope. BRING STEFAN BACK TO LIFE. And Damon and Elena work together and after about a decade infiltrate peace. Elena says ‘hi’ to her dead family while Damon hugs Stefan, kicks his ass for killing himself, and then drags him back to earth and Elena mounts him before he can say ‘hello’. Ah, Klaus and Caroline hook up I guess (Seriously, Candice, why are you selling Klaus/Caroline more than Stefan/Caroline that is sad. But so was Steroline so I don’t blame you.) But only so and Lizzie, Hope, and Josie become stepsisters and uncle Kol could get them into mischief with them at school and that’s my jam. 

But all of that may take some planning, because I would probably do at least try and earn that ending. Unless I just half-ass it like they did. I would me be honoring the source text as fully as possible.

I watched the TVD finale last night, and of course it made me cry.

I mean, that was 8 years of my life, and I believe TVD is what got me on tumblr in the first place.

Honestly, it may not have been perfect, but I did like how it ended.

It was satisfying for me to know they all found peace.

I had no problem with Stefan being the one to die, and no problem with Delena being end game, I mean, I rooted for them since the beginning, even when I really wanted Bamon to happen. I still wanted Bamon to happen, but I’ll take their friendship, and that’s what fanfic is for. 

The only disappointment was what ended up happening with Katherine. I love her character and I think she deserved peace as well...and maybe since hell was gone, maybe she got it.

I hope she got it.

Thoughts on 6x12 - 6x22 I know it’s shocking but I LOVED IT AND WROTE TONS! I will say the plot was a bit tighter for the first half but this half needed a lot of set-up for next season so I'll allow it. There’s so much focus on Caroline as two of her biggest arcs happen with her Mom and humanity off. There’s great Bamon stuff and I like that even though they became besties Bonnie wasn’t going back to being pushed around. I enjoyed Lily and her scenes with the brothers. I zoned out during all the cure stuff as it is the bane of my existence. Definitely my favorite season still and this half gave me so much, all my bias thoughts below!

This season really picked it up again with the horror elements. There’s a lot of scenes that feel like scenes in a slasher movie, probably because the main villain of the season is a slasher styler serial killer as opposed to the usual serial killer.

Liv’s boobs are spectacular, just wanted to put that out there.

Nice contrast to earlier in the season when Elena asked Stefan to give her hope and he told her he gave up, whereas with Caroline he couldn’t take her hope away from her.

Kai just cracks me up! He just never stops talking but somehow stays funny. Chris is so good.

Love how they foreshadow Caroline turning it off in her Mom’s vision and that being what brings Liz back to life. She had to come back to make sure someone would watch over Caroline.

Also @ the morons on Reddit who will never see this post and say "Liz guilt tripped Stefan into liking Caroline" because she asked him to watch out for her lets all remember that Stefan ASKED LIZ FOR HELP WITH CAROLINE! She even felt bad for him and threw him a bone in two episodes ago to hang Christmas lights.

This episode was an emotional rollercoaster! I knew everything that was going to happen and I was still so stressed. I can’t believe they made it look like Luke won when he was fluttering his eyes only to be like SIKE! That was cruel! Kai and Luke merging together was a great scene too loved the leaves swirling around, looked more like the earlier seasons magic scenes. Luke’s death hit hard too because we did see him a lot and we gradually learned about the Parker family so I felt more connected to all of them. Jo breaks my heart here and Jodi is just so fantastic. Just really solid storytelling all around.

Why is Bonnie still in the prison world?? I hate it.

Enzo’s storyline is the only miss this season because just leave that damn girl alone! Damon doesn’t need to know he didn’t kill the baby because he did nothing to prevent it from happening! I get Enzo is supposed to be a foil to Stefan but he’s just such a loser of a character.

Sarah Salvatore looks so much like S1!Elena I wonder if she was meant to have a bigger role in S7 as like a pseudo-Elena with Lily until they changed plans.

Welp there goes Elena making a terrible situation affecting only Bonnie about herself again. Inevitable.

When I first watched this episode I was so not here for the Kai redemption hand wave they were doing with him gaining empathy through merging with Luke. I was like not this bullshit again just keep villains evil! But now I have changed my mind because it wasn’t fair that as soon as the big bad was interested in ONLY Bonnie now he can’t be redeemed. I’m not saying Bonnie had to forgive him or that I even ship them but it pisses me off how often Bonnie gets shafted in favor of Elena and Caroline. I’ll just forever side eye JP who was like “Bonnie would never love a murderous vampire she’s too pure” and then stuck her with Enzo!

Of all Steroline’s great moments (and they have a lot) this is probably THE SCENE for me. The laughter and the headiness when they find Miss Cuddles and she gets decapitated (great foreshadowing of the no humanity SC arc) are so great but then! The charged moment when they are looking at each other and the camera is swirling around and you just want to scream KISS HER ALREADY until he can’t because she starts to cry so he hugs her instead JUST GETS TO ME! What a ship!

Such a great Bonnie scene! She fought to live and Jeremy saved her!!!

No offense Tyler but you chose death over Caroline so let’s not throw stones from glass houses. God the writers really didn't GAF about him after he lost his hybrid powers.

Matt and Sarah could have been cute, would have been hilarious watching Stefan and Damon deal with the possibility of Matt being a part of their family.

This scene of Damon being like "I did all these murders case closed!" LMFAO and they had the audacity to put "Protector of Mystic Falls" on Liz's tombstone.

Elena is the most annoying older sister ever, no wonder Jeremy wanted to get away from her (plus you know the fact that she kept having Damon erase his memories).

Really love that Stefan and Caroline got almost two episodes of just scenes with each other away from all the other chaos. They never got that again so I'm always fond of this time where they got to just be together and slowly fall in love.

In my completely unbiased opinion this is the greatest first kiss of any ship ever on this show. No I will not be taking feedback on that and I’ll tell you why! The way the sunset casts Stefan and Caroline’s profiles in shadows so when they first kiss they look like two silhouettes becoming one. There’s also a moment where the space between them is on the shape of a heart. And the kiss taking place on Caroline’s cabin porch with the door open and the reflection of the two of them kissing in the door window. SHOWSTOPPING!

"I'm exceptionally ordinary, Caroline is anything but" I'm going to start crying already what a beautiful line

No no no no no this scene gets me every single time! Liz pushing little Caroline on the bike while she says she’s not ready makes me cry every single time I watch it so yep crying again. Only scene in the whole show that makes me cry every time.

BABY CAROLINE YOU’RE TOO PRECIOUS!

God dammit Damon! He is the biggest catalyst for this going so bad because he keeps giving everyone the worst advice imaginable!

I can tell Julie wrote this episode because it’s stressing me out! She used the missed communication plot device that I hate but she did it perfectly for the characters involved. Because at their core Stefan and Caroline are both control freaks and both of them overthinking this situation is why we get the conclusion that we get. Because Caroline can't wait a day because she needs to know now and she's already determined if it's bad he won't talk to her about it. And Stefan who just wanted advice about how to handle not starting something with Caroline at a bad time is now overthinking Damon's stupid advice.

I like how Matt just became Caroline's like assistant in the later seasons because that's what he deserves after he treated her like an afterthought their whole relationship. Karma.

Elena is really great in this episode. She is a pro at funerals and she’s really trying to guide everyone (and not making it about herself)!!!

The "Something even better" speech is so great and I love that Julie wrote it because she was always the writer who loved Steroline the most. There's a reason this line is used most often as OTP tags for SC on here because the show is telling you why this relationship is different than what we've seen prior. And it goes back to Stefan saying you can't be in love and friends at the same time because that's why this feels different! That's why when Damon said if it doesn't feel the same then it's not "true love" threw Stefan off until he stopped overthinking it! Until he listened to Damon's speech and he watched Caroline sing and he felt so much for her in that moment! Because yeah this isn't true love this is something even better, this is falling in love with your best friend. The person who accepts you at your worst, who laughs at your stupid jokes and who knows you better than you know yourself. The one person YOU CAN'T PRETEND WITH!

CTFU at the look NH!Caro gives Stefan when he walks over with the shots, she knows he’s about to play a stupid game! This was the part of Caroline's plan she failed to take into account BTW. Caroline when has he left you alone ALL DAMN SEASON! Time and time again he keeps coming back!

Feels like Caroline insinuated she knew Stefan felt something in S4 because she said it took him a few years to figure his feelings out. Ian has some really great shots in this episode and I really love how the light plays across Steroline when he tries to trigger her by cupping her face. The light shines on them at the specific moment it looks like he triggered her only to fade back to black and her to say "you shouldn't have done that."

I love the chuckle Caroline makes when she realizes Stefan compelled Sarah to be uninterested in vampires. OMG she didn’t even have to try and get Enzo’s phone!

Did Elena not tell Stefan that NH!Caro told her there would be consequences if he tried anything to trigger her? Girl have you met Stefan? Did you really think he wouldn't try? Stefan "Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes" Salvatore! A Crazy Bitch needed saving that's his drug of choice!

I find it HILARIOUS that Ripper Stefan is mocking NH!Caro's revenge skills when those same skills are the reason he's the way he is right now! He couldn't give her A DAY! And him not giving her even a damn day to see if she could keep herself in check was not about him not believing she could. Stefan more than ANYONE knows how good Caroline is at control (it's why his focus is making her lose control this episode, Ripper likes a challenge). No Stefan's motive to bring Caroline back was for himself 100%, he realized he was in love with her and could not wait to tell her.

This passive aggressive conversation between Damon and Lily is amazing lol, Annie and Ian are playing it perfectly.

He really could not keep up the farce for long, which is funny because Stefan has always been the best at being a lying liar who lies.

See Elena Stefan used his ace in the hole when it was the only thing left! What a powerful and devoted thing Stefan does here, and I don't want to say he's never done anything powerful for Caroline before since he literally died for her last season but this was him channelling everything he felt when he turned his humanity on into his love for Caroline (the one thing that makes you strong). And the memory is absolute perfection! Because it showed Caroline why he didn't confess at her Mom's funeral because he wanted to wait until everything was perfect and that time was anything but. And showing her that her Mom gave her blessing to Stefan just so good! And the imagery of Caroline getting stuck outside the door behind her Mom with the curtains too, the significance! WHAT A MOMENT! That's how you do a heartbreaking moment, this episode was fantastic definitely my favorite of the season.

I chose to believe at some point Caroline gets to read the letter through something at the school. They had Klaus send Hope a Zoom message from Peace they’ll figure it out!

Lily was so great, love how she "taught Damon a lesson" like when he was a little boy. She is so manipulative I am in love.

TBH I completely agree that it’s tough to buy that Damon wants to be human, that guy loves being a vampire! And it’s not lost on me that the cure was forced on him in the end and he looked MISERABLE AFTER!

Stefan hanging out in his room pining for Caroline while a bachelor party is happening downstairs. I fucking love it, he’s such a loyal loser. This little spinning globe too, like the snowglobe for her.

Welp I’ve been triggered because now I am reminded of the fact that Stefan and Lily talking about their ripper bloodlust issues was NEVER EXPLORED PAST THIS EPISODE! FOREVER BITTER!

“Reformed Ripper” (!!!!!) I will say they did show between S3 and this season how Stefan got a handle on his bloodlust throughout the seasons based on how he reacted to blood. In 3x19 he was still very uncomfortable around Alaric bleeding. In 4x22 he had to stay away from the person who was bleeding with Damon and Liz but he could keep his composure. In 5x03 he had been starving for months but he was able to tell Tessa to stay away or he'd hurt her. Then in 6x02 he drinks a blood bag pretty easily though you still see that ecstasy when the blood hits. And then in 6x12 Colin is covered in blood and he's fine. I know it's not in your face and I'm sure most missed the nuance but I found it easier to notice during a binge-style rewatch.

OH ANOTHER THING I WAS ROBBED OF! The fact that Caroline and Lily both view their human selves as weak and that becoming a vampire made them into a new strong woman. Too bad they had literally ONE SCENE together in S7, thanks for that Dries!

Love that the first thing we see is Stefan opening up to Caroline and asking for her input on how he’s feeling about Damon. And you can see he wouldn’t open up to Elena about it in the prior scene because he wanted Caroline’s advice not hers.

"That’s because you’re a control freak who’s lost control; I feel the same way when I’m around you" this line is so slept on because it's all the explanation you need for why these two had such a hard time getting on the same page this season. Because they are BOTH control freaks (and I think it's telling this is the only time Stefan calls her a control freak in a negative way) and the way they feel about each other is anything but being in control. Stefan makes Caroline vulnerable because she feels so much more for him than any guy she has in the past and she can't build the same wall she used to in order to protect her heart. Then there's Stefan has never fallen in love with someone who was his friend first, someone who's seen every part of him. And I think that's such a challenge for him because Stefan was always so good at only showing parts of himself and meticulously planning everything out before he makes a decision and he can't do that with Caroline. Going back to their first kiss where Stefan didn't plan to kiss Caroline that day, he was waiting he told Liz he wanted it to be perfect but in that moment all that mattered was that Caroline is perfect and she never really hated him and he HAD to kiss her.

Stefan saying that loving Caroline "changed his life" is so significant and I think people don't take that part seriously enough. Because so much criticism against Steroline is that Stefan doesn't act the same way with Caroline that he did with Elena and it's like yeah that's the point! He's changed so much as he's finally accepted that he's not "The Ripper" or "The Good Brother" he's both. And Caroline was such a significant part of that process and that's what he's saying with his list. She was there for him when he needed a friend in S4 and helped him get in control of his bloodlust and helped him move on from Elena. She made him laugh and she made him dance two things he either hardly did (laugh) or hated doing (dancing) because she just loosened him up the way no one ever did before, not even Lexi. And then the big one that Caroline telling him he'd move on and fall in love again without realizing it, how much that meant to him that she gave him faith it would happen and that it happened with her (day by day, bit by bit, year by year)!

I said in my 4x23 recap I like how Klaus and Stefan's confessions work in tandem for Caroline, and now I also noticed that Klaus kissed her left cheek and Stefan kissed her right cheek. Even if I don't ship KC I just love that Caroline got them BOTH, like they were both like you're the one for me and "I'll wait" "however long it takes" SO GOOD!

TELL ME ALL YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THAT EP RIGHT NOW

1. vicki: hell yeah! i never cared all that much about her to begin with but seeing her face made me feel super nostalgic and sort of set the mood for the rest of the episode. i was not expecting that at all.

2. mama forbes: i would’ve been emotional about seeing her no matter what but THE LOOK ON CAROLINE’S FACE when she saw her broke my little heart. and then the fact that caroline got to hug her!

3. caroline forgiving damon: look, i don’t think caroline ever needed to forgive damon after what he did to her but i really super appreciate the reasoning for it- that damon cared about liz and was there for her and felt her loss the most out of anyone other than caroline. it felt organic and believable and sincere.

4. grams: !!!!! my feelings about bonnie’s convo with sheila are complicated but getting to see them together was quite lovely.

5. damon forgiving stefan: nobody hates stefan more than i do but i have always maintained that it’s not stefan’s fault that damon turned. that’s just stupid, near-sighted logic. that being said, the show is never going to confront all the stuff that IS stefan’s fault and all the terrible shit he HAS done, so i’m just gonna have to settle for this in its place. it was just so refreshing for once to not have to watch damon gravel at stefan’s feet when the reality is that they’re both shitty people who have done shitty things. it was refreshing to have damon actually acknowledge that he’s not the only “bad” salvatore brother. it was a nice change of pace.

6. matt and damon have a moment: i love that matt wasn’t just like “yeah man all is forgiven because you said sorry and did one nice thing.” that would’ve made no sense whatsoever. it wouldn’t have been in-character for matt and it really wouldn’t have made up for every terrible thing damon has done to/around matt. but it was nice to see matt acknowledge that damon isn’t ALL bad and that he is trying. it was also nice to finally have damon apologize for what he did to vicki. it was just a nice moment that felt true to their characters, especially the part where matt said “not by a long shot.”

7. tyler lockwood: i was happy to see tyler’s face but it wasn’t enough. the fact that they killed him off with no fan fare and no real fallout is disgusting enough but then to have him come back just to essentially be a warning sign in damon’s subconscious??? not good enough. tyler deserves better.

8. steroline: i don’t think it’s a secret that i don’t particularly care about steroline one way or another but i loved it tonight. so much??? mostly on caroline’s end. i love that she acknowledged that damon means more to stefan than she does but it wasn’t in a bitter or malicious way. it was just a fact. a thing she knows to be true and she accepts it. i loved it even more when she was like “so we’re either going to be together or we’re not. we’re either going to make our relationship work or we’re not.” it’s like the healthiest conversation ever had about a romantic relationship on this show. she’s acknowledging that she can’t possibly know what’s going to happen and there’s no such thing as “true love conquers all uwu” but she’s still going to try and help him. she still wants to save him. whatever happens after that, it’s not important right now. she wants to save stefan because she cares about him, she loves him, and it’s the right thing to do. they’ll figure out the rest later. 

9. BAMON: oh my god. i have so many feelings about them and there is no way i could ever truly convey them but you guys! YOU GUUUUYYYSSSSS! damon basically said that he loves bonnie the same way he loves elena. like i know that isn’t what the writers meant but it’s definitely the way it came across. YOU’RE GONNA HELP MAKE ME THE BEST MAN I COULD POSSIBLY BE. THE SAME WAY SHE DID. AND I’M ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED OF FAILING YOU BOTH. !!!!! bonnie is just as important to damon’s humanity, to him being a good person, to him WANTING to be a good person, as elena is. BONNIE BENNETT IS THE BEST PART OF DAMON SALVATORE AND THAT’S OKAY IF YOU DON’T AGREE BECAUSE IT’S BASICALLY WHAT DAMON BELIEVES AND I AM DYING. don’t get me wrong, this whole scene is like an entire season too late and it doesn’t make up for any of the other ways the writers have done this relationship dirty but man oh man was it satisfying to watch damon sit there and tell bonnie just how highly he thinks of her and just how much she means to him and just how much he respects and loves her to her face.
