Barbell Shrugs, also known as barbell shoulder shrugs, are a popular choice of exercise for strengthening your Trapezius, upper back, shoulder muscles, neck, and upper arms too. It also helps to improve posture. Shrugging weight is a great way to develop your traps and give you a healthier upper back overall. Muscles Worked During Barbell Shrug
The trapezius muscle is a large, triangular muscle that spans the upper back and shoulders. It plays a key role in shoulder movement and stability, as well as in maintaining proper posture. The trapezius muscle can be divided into three parts. Together, the three parts of the trapezius help you move your head, stand up straight, bend or twist your torso and raise your arms. - Upper fibers (Upper trapezius) - Middle fibers (middle trapezius) - Lower fibers (Lower trapezius). ❤️😅HIIT OR STEADY-STATE CARDIO? AEROBIC OR ANAEROBIC WORK? The answer, as usual, typically lies in the middle. I'd definitely recommend both forms of cardio to maximize health, fitness, and performance. And there's a particular way I like to do both. First, hit it hard with short burst intervals up front to create a catecholamine (adrenaline) response that mobilizes fat (particularly in stubborn areas) and creates an oxygen debt and subsequent post-workout afterburn. Then follow that up with some steady-state cardio at a lower intensity to oxidize/burn that fat that's been mobilized from the intervals. It's still bro-science at this point, but I've personally found this order of exercise to make 10-20 minutes of steady state work have the same effectiveness as 30-60 minutes on it's own (at least from a fat loss standpoint). Don't be surprised if you get really belchy or gassy (TMI?) during the aerobic work as I've always found that to be an awkward byproduct of rapid fat-burning. Here's an example of a cardio sesh I did last night using this strategic structure: ------------------------------------ I. HIIT/Anaerobic Cardio ------------------------------------ Part I- 20-10 interval for 8 rounds ------------------------------------ @UltraSlide Sliding Skaters with @mbslingshot hip circle ------------------------------------ Rest a minute and move to Part II ------------------------------------ Part II- 20-10 interval for 8 rounds ------------------------------------ @concept2inc #SkiErg Slams (try to get 20 reps in 20 seconds) ------------------------------------ Rest a minute and repeat this 10-minute sequence. ------------------------------------ II. This right here is what CrossFit is. This actually brought tears to my eyes. Determination is an understatement! Brooke (whose visually impaired) knocked out 19.1 like a champ! First we worked on orientation to the equipment. Using boxes to keep the medicine ball from rolling away, and a trash bag with crumbled up paper taped to 9’ for her auditory target. We found that cycling a wallball isn’t really practical and is a bit unsafe too, so I have Brooke stand a bit further than normal to increase the chances of the ball dropping to the ground in front of her and just setting up for the next rep as a single. Sometimes I have to be on the defensive side to make sure she doesn’t get smacked in the face as you see lol. But overall she did amazingly well once we got her bearing! 1+19 with the 10lb medball! She went into this saying, well it’s ok if I don’t finish the first round of wallballs, this is just fun regardless. We blew that expectation out of the water! As an extra special treat I got to coach her mom as a drop in this afternoon and she got to watch Brooke take on this workout! The magic in The Open is still there for me; regionals or not this means something bigger than just competition, it’s the community and the people.
